Pioneer DEH-P9400BH

Bluetooth for safety and convenience
Once you pair up your phone, the receiver will mute the music when a call comes in, displaying the incoming number or contact name. Just press a button and talk — no fumbling for your phone. The receiver stores your phone book if you like, so outgoing calls are easy too. Plus, you can stream the music on your phone to this receiver, with no wires to get tangled up.

HD Radio for unparalleled radio sound
HD Radio's sonic advantages are impressive — FM broadcasts that are near-CD quality, with AM that's as good as what you're used to on FM. And if your local HD Radio station employs multicasting, this Pioneer allows you to tune into multiple channels on the same frequency, so you'll have more entertainment choices. Plus, the iTunes® tagging feature lets you save song info when your iPod's connected, so you can purchase the tracks you like later.

Pandora® Internet radio
If you've got an iPhone, you know the options available for streaming music. The DEH-P9400BH features Pioneer's App Mode, which offers limited control of many popular streaming music services. With your iPhone® connected, you'll have excellent control Pandora® Internet radio stations, including station selection and "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" ratings from the face of the receiver.

Play your music and streaming sources
The DEH-P9400BH sports two USB inputs on cords connected to the rear panel, so you won't have to put up with cables draped down the front of your dash. And you'll have real versatility too — plug your iPod into one and use the other for a USB storage device. There's almost no limit to the amount of music you can have on tap. And this Pioneer's 1-amp USB port will charge your devices fast, so you'll be ready to go when you get out of the car.

Pioneer for great sound
The DEH-P9400BH's built-in amp delivers plenty of power for strong sound. You'll also find an impressive collection of soundshaping controls, including a 5-band equalizer that lets you adjust the sound to your car's interior. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever reverses the compression process to give you more high-frequency sparkle and musical detail from your digital audio files. And when you connect digital music sources like your iPod® to one of the USB inputs, you'll bypass the player's internal digital-to-analog converter and use the higher-quality DAC in the receiver. You songs will sound clearer and more realistic.

Choose colors to match your car and your taste
The fold-down face of the receiver offers plenty of room for displaying song info, and the bright dot-matrix display reads easily in a variety of lighting conditions. You can adjust the display and control colors of this receiver separately, so there are thousands of possible combinations on tap.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

iPhone® 5 Note: You'll need to update this Pioneer receiver to enable Bluetooth control and metadata display for the iPhone 5 or other Apple iOS6 devices. This update requires a laptop with Bluetooth running Windows 7.

Bought this deck last year( always been a pioneer fan) and I've had no issues with it whatsoever nice sounds and easy to set eq... great buy

Pros: Great quality... 4v preouts... highly adjustable sound and ex... fully adjustable color on screen and buttons.

Cons: Knob fell of once.... never again tho... seems you have to turn the CD player up to 57-60 to get full sound out of it even with un amped interior speakers, it would be nice to not have such a limited on your volume. I understand you don't wanna blow or destroy you speakers but with how I have it set I could use a couple extra decibels on it with out turning it up to the max volume...

    Wish it would've worked...

Well, the pictures looked cool... Bought this almost a year ago to replace the stereo in a car that I bought. Sold the car, and had the stereo sitting in the box until just a couple of days ago. Went to install it, got it all wired up and absolutely nothing but a red light over the CD slot. Other reviewers must have had better luck than I did, because mine was a total waste of money as it's not working and I bought it so long ago I'm sure I can't even return it.

    Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Dead right out of the box

I had an old Pioneer in my car that needed to be replaced cause it was just beat up and old. So I decided that I was going to try a different brand so I purchased a jvc kd-a735bt head unit thinking that it was going to be better than Pioneer. ......BOY WAS I WRONG! So long story short I did some homework and I looked around online and I ran across this unit the PIONEER DEH-P9400BH so I purchased it. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AWESOME THIS STEREO IS IT HAS AMAZING SOUND QUALITY! THIS STEREO HAS IT ALL HD RADIO, DOUBLE REAR USB, CRYSTAL CLEAR BLUETOOTH. AND THAT IS JUST A FEW OF THE MANY FEATURES THAT THIS STEREO IS LOADED WITH! AND IT IS VERY USER FRIENDLY! THE USER INTERFACE IS SOOO EASY TO USE, AND BEST OF ALL THE SUBWOOFER CONTROLS ARE PHENOMENAL! I LOVE PIONEER! I CAN SAY WITH TOTAL CONFIDENCE THAT PIONEER MAKES THE BEST HEAD UNITS ON THE MARKET! SO IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AMAZING QUALITY AND IT WONT BREAK THE BANK..... GET A PIONEER! THIS ONE KICKS BUTT!

I have had several Pioneer AM/FM CD players in my cars and trucks without any problems. The DEH-P9400BH is a definite improvement in my car audio systems. The stereo has more features then I ever had before. You have got to buy this stereo to appreciate it.

Pros: It has the greatest number of features for the price. I bought it from Crutchfields because they include everthing for a quick installation.

Cons: You will have to learn how to operate the 9400 to really enjoy it but once you do it is fantastic. Some phones do not tranfer phone numbers into the stereo. I have a Samsung 404 Tracfone and it is hit or miss with the phone numbers it transfers

One of the BEST receivers outhere!

What can i say Built In Bluetooth and its not like others receivers that say Bluetooth ready and you still have to buy Bluetooth device. This unit out of the box is Bluetooth ready no BS. Built in HD Radio i have never been interested in HD Radio cause i never knew what it was but OMG Amazing Quality. 2 Usb ports in the back, 1 aux in the front. I am not a fan of front Usb looks hideous so this is perfect. The quality of the sound of Pioneer cannot be beating hand s down. The unit is not cluttered with buttons all over it you just have to get used to the unit and you will be fine. I use it strictly with a Classic iPod in my glove compartment, i can honestly tell you i probably will never use the cd player. This unit is perfect for me i got it on Sale so even better.

Pros: Bluetooth, HD Radio, 2 USB ports.

    Cons: NONE!

Excellent Radio -- I upgraded my stock AM/FM radio in my 2008 F-150 and could not be happier. Probably did not need all the bells and whistles that are on this radio, but Bluetooth is very handy, especially in those hand-free states that I am sure VA will be soon.

    Pros: Sound, Qualify, Value, Look

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, I read hundreds of reviews for dozens of units while I was shopping, both on Crutchfield and on Amazon. Those that rate this unit poorly either got a bad unit or were being too picky. I've had mine in my Xterra @ 6 weeks now, and would purchase it again. I'll start by listing the must-have features. In order, I wanted bluetooth built-in, the USB port(s) in back, control of Pandora from the unit, and a classy design (not a Vegas billboard). The presence of a 2nd USB and built-in HD are added bonuses. With Pandora, I couldn't care less about Sat. radio. The BT works great and is easy to set up. Call quality on my end couldn't be better, and the folks I talk to report the sound is good on their end as well. I have an iPhone 5, and pairing was a snap. The BT audio works with every app on my phone (Audible, Amazon cloud player, YouTube, Netflix, etc.). I just wish I could control the audio from the unit. Not a big deal though. I have one USB coming out discretely just beneath the radio, and one in the glovebox in case my wife/daughter need to charge their phones. With my iPhone plugged in, I can control audio from any app and display track info. This includes searching, pausing, skipping, etc. Tracks on Pandora can be thumbed up or down as well. The HD sounds great, and was a better feature than I would have even thought. One of my favorite stations in Atlanta went off the air, but resurfaced as HD2 for a different station.

Pros: Does EVERYTHING, and most things well. Controls are mostly intuitive, and easy to learn.

Cons: No native control on the unit when listening to BT audio (only a minor drawback). The manual is utterly useless.

    great radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Radio prices sure have come down and this is worth every penny and then some. My first HD Radio with bluetooth, functions and they all work great. Everytime I get into my car the bluetooth connects to my phone right away and if I was using Slacker radio it will start to play right away if I have it set to bluetooth mode. the phone button makes it easy to get to your phonebook and make a call. My car has a load exhaust but does not interfere with the sound quality. I love this radio and if I need another for any reason I am going right for this one.

Pros: easy to use, alot of functions and endless color choices

Cons: none that I can figure out

Great features - Not so good UI

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I looked around for a while and bought this unit because of the great features that it had. I had seen a few reviews mention that it was difficult to use but I figured it can't be too bad. Well, for the most part it's not too bad but there are a few glaring problems that really make me wonder if they tried using this unit before they shipped it. It is very easy to change the colors on the the display and the controls. There is also a dedicated button for changing from a clock to a timer. Both interesting features. How about pausing the music you're listening to? There's no button for that. You have two choices: dig about 3 levels deep in the menus to get to the pause function or press the pause button on the remote control. Neither is a workable option when you're driving. One great thing about this unit is the 2 USB ports I have one to hook up my phone and the other has a hard drive with about 50GB of music loaded on it. Nice to have that available. The have a nice "smart" mode which indexes the music on the hard drive and makes searching much faster. The problem is that when you choose an album it plays the songs back in alphabetical order, not the album order. Maybe not a problem on most albums but a real drag on albums like Abby Road or Dark Side of the Moon.

Pros: Great sound and great features 2 USB ports in the rear of the unit

Cons: Terrible user interface. Hard to get to needed functions. Easy to get to rather useless functions.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound quality is good. HD radio is very good. But not that easy to operate. Little compicated the controls. I bought this stereo because of 1. Bluetooth 2. HD radio 3. Colorful screen. HD radio is very good, colors are very good too but bluetooth is not that good. Microphone has lot of noise. Other person can hear lot of noise. I returned this unit and kept Alpine. Alpine's Bluetooth quality is unbeatble. I love Alpine over Pioneer only for this reason because you spend that much of money but Pioneer is unable to take care of just silly micriphone to make it noisecancelling.

Pros: Sound quality, HD radio, multicolor screen and nice appearance

    Cons: Bluetooth microphone quality

Install was pretty simple, even though this was the first I had ever done. With the firmware update, It works well playing songs from my iPhone 4s. Sound quality for calls is good, though some complain of a lot of background noice from me. Control could be a little better, a little more intuitive, but gets a lot easier with use. Sound quality was a major upgrade from my factory radio, even with the stock speakers

Pros: Ease of install, sound quality

Cons: menu structure, controls need to be a bit more intuitive

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit for my 2001 Volvo s40, which required an additional "pocket" below the unit to fill the gap. I am pleased with the fit, and it looks like it belongs there with no obvious gaps or misfit joints. I decided on this model because it offered HD radio, Bluetooth, Pandora, and audio streaming, with the option for XM. Compared to other contestants, this unit gives you a great deal of the newest options for a great price. The ease of use requires a learning process, but hey, that's the case with most pieces of complicated equipment, once I learned the process, it was easy to operate. Installation was very easy made possible by the included wire harness adaptors, and instructions. Tweaking the sound took me quit a while to test all the different optional shaping tools, but I finally settled on a pretty decent sound for both radio, and mp3's. I absolutely love the song info on the radio that scrolls the artist, and tune name so I always know who is singing and what the song is. Personally, I prefer a double din size receiver because you get more real-estate to present the info, but this does a pretty good job, although it's kinda hard to see the small ikons.

Pros: Great price, especially the scratch and dent unit I looked very clean and was packaged perfect with everything included. Super unit packed with all the up-to-date features.

Cons: There's a lot going on for a small display, so until you become familiar with what to look for at a glance it's a bit crowded.

    Android Fail

Lost in WV from Morgantown, WV on 1/19/2013

Installed this in my Audi TT with Bose tonight. No issues on install. USB is not compatible with Android. I plugged my Note 2 into USB. I get "device not compatible". After a little research I find that Android 4.0+ does not support USB mass storage or USB on the go. Bluetooth works great but my setup does not allow for my tablet to use bluetooth. I can fall back on the Aux input but sound quality is noticeably lower. I plugged my Iphone 4 into USB and it was a great experience. To bad my Iphone 4 is only a low storage Ipod now.

Pros: Sound Quality, Hands free calling is quality

Cons: USB is not compatible with Android 4.0+

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off this is a great deck (Pioneer DEH-P9400BH). Has everything you need without breaking the bank. As always ordering/shipping was straight forward with Crutchfield. All attaching hardware was included free of charge and made installation into my 05' Dodge Ram easy as can be. Found the deck cheaper on other sites however when you factor in the included hardware the price came out equal. Lastly you get lifetime support if you run into issues along the way. Would buy this product again using Crutchfield.

Pros: Pioneer quality. Ease of install. Bluetooth with all the needed hardware. 2 USB attachments out the rear (for a clean look). Paired to my Droid 2 with ease.

Cons: Not very easy to access radio stations till you dig into the settings.

    Awesome upgrade

Instaled this unit in a 2001 F-350 to get rid of the factory radio. Paired it with 4 Rockford Fosgate Prime R1682 speakers and couldnt be happier. However the manual sucks. Not very detailed and leaves a little to be desired. Sounds great, Sirius tuner plugged right in and Im on my way. Looks great with mounting hardware that was provided.

Pros: BT, Satellite ready, hd radio. All sound great!

    Cons: Manual

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the worst, most aggravating car receiver I've ever used. I've been a Pioneer fan for 10+ years, not anymore. The software only works when it wants to, for example if I plug my iPhone in and try to play iPod music it'll assume I want to play Pandora and skip to the Pandora screen. I'll then have to unplug, start playing music and plug back in. If I'm playing Pandora and I lose service, I can't just change the source, I have to unplug, change the source to iPod, start playing iPod and plug back in. Even then it'll sometimes still want to jump to Pandora and I'll have to unplug and try again. Not exactly safe on mountain roads where you usually lose cell service. Also, if you somehow succeed in getting the iPod music to actually play, it'll always start with the first song alphabetically on the iPod- no matter what artist or playlist you were playing on your headphones before you got in your car. Bluetooth and Aux jack work well, no complaints there. The screen is nice but the only way to see a clock you can clearly read is to sacrifice being able to see the song and artist info- defeating the purpose of a big screen. Radio presets are a hassle to program and annoying to sort through, radio preset buttons would be nice. So would a pause or a mute button. There's more but all that matters is I would NOT recommend this terrible radio and a big thanks to Crutchfield for taking it back. I'm much happier with my Alpine

Pros: Big screen with many colors to choose from Visual EQ control and lots of adjustability Crutchfield's return policy

Cons: Doesn't like to play ipod music and doesn't remember where you left off Doesn't switch between iPod and Pandora Teeny clock Poor screen layout-lots of wasted space Radio presets are difficult No mute or pause buttons

This unit is perfect for someone looking to replace the infinity sound system and amp in a jk. The right rear output can be changed to power a sub, it has built in crossover and high pass filter for the speaker outs.

Pros: Wiring Flexibility. Illumination color can be changed. Can hide aux inputs. High pass filter, low pass filter, graphic eq. Dimmer works, with chrysler canbus adapter.

Cons: Face is barely visible in daylight. Can not hide USB inputs or tuner input.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really great stereo! It was my first aftermarket head-unit and I am very pleased with it. The sound is amazing and the various audio options and equalizer really let me get a sound I liked. Bluetooth is clear and solid for both music and calls. Radio works perfectly however the RDS seems kind of slow compared to some of my friends'. The display can be hard to see in direct sunlight, but this seems to be a problem with many aftermarket units. However at certain angles it is actually easier to see, no idea why but I go with it. The main problem I had was that my phone did not seem to like being connected to it. I have a Droid 3 and it would lock in USB mode even after I unplugged it and set it for "charge only." This means that my music files on my SD card could not be accessed for either link play or BT, but anything stored on my phones internal storage could. It could be either my phone or a compatibility issue, I never found out but now I just use a dedicated USB drive I leave in the car for my music and it works fine. The last thing I have to say is the buttons and dial seem a little flimsy but don't show any signs of breaking or loosening after a few months. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this!

    Pros: Sound Quality Features

Cons: Compatibility issue (maybe) Display can be lost in the sunlight

Old Pioneer Fan from El Paso, TX on 11/14/2012

After owning a Pioneer DEH-P9400BH for six months and not being happy the store agreed to replace it with another unit of my choice. The BT hands free connection was very choppy and usually dropped the call after a couple of minutes, the installers tried troubleshooting the BT several times by changing mic position, revising Android version and upgrades, etc. but nothing worked. Also the USB file system drops you back to the root every time when browsing back making you browse folder after folder after folder every time after finishing one album and looking for something else to listen from the same genre/artist/etc, this is frustrating especially while driving. So I replaced it with a JVC Arsenal KD-A735BT and it made all the difference in the world, better sound, solid BT performance, smart USB file browsing, plus Pandora connectivity from your phone, I'm in love with JVC, they used to be in the dumps but after acquiring Kenwood got their act together, and it was less expensive so I got money back for a better unit. I wrote Pinoeer about my problems with this unit and they basically told me "too bad" that's how the unit works, no firmware upgrade, and no tips or instructions on how to make it work better. So after being a loyal fan of Pioneer I will now phase out all my Pioneer products in time. **I wrote a similar review for the JVC Arsenal KD-A735BT**

    Pros: Sound - Cool Display

Cons: Bluetooth performance - USB file browsing

    Amazing Radio

Javy from Studio City, CA on 10/31/2012

So, I live in Los Angeles and this review would be happy for someone in a metropolis. First of all, the HD pickup is INCREDIBLE. It picks it up fast and it is crystal clear. I am also able to make the HD stations presets, so that is great. AM stations are also starting to broadcast in HD, so listening to Laker Games and news radio is quite good. Sound quality of every station though is great. Bluetooth was an amazingly easy setup. Just look for the device on your phone, pair it, done! Recorded my Voicemail message while driving and it was crystal clear. It also displays the name of an incoming/outgoing/missed caller and stores your phonebook. Super cool especially when driving The best thing though was that when I connected my iPhone 5 with the 30 pin to lightning adapter, it not only played music, but it charged. Havent tried Pandora, but because of Verizon data charges, I dont plan to. I highly HIGHLY recommend this product, especially if you are in an HD capapble market. Also, Crutchfield says that this did not fit my car. it does and does so with ease. If you have a single DIN spot, it WILL WORK!

Pros: Great Bluetooth, easy set up, beautiful sound, amazing HD pick up.

Cons: I couldnt really figure it out just by playing around with it. Not necessarily a con. Read the manual. Not only is it an easy read, but I found some really cool useful features I would not have been able to find on my own.

To start with, I had to return this product because it was defective. The FM turner was broken and would always had static on every FM station. I re-purchased a new unit, and that one is still very fickle with FM reception. It locks on, but the reception is not up to other units I have owned. Stations that other units lock onto without any problem or static, this unit won't - or has static. But, the sound from the unit, when it is on a strong station is very good. Also, the stereo is very fickle with interference from other power sources. The professional installers I had install the unit, had to route the amplified source away from other power sources in the car, or the unit would produce a high pitched whine. The controls on the unit are OK for stereo and phone, but aren't well thought out for bluetooth audio. Pausing / playing bluetooth audio is a pain as others have noted. With some simple changes (such as a pause / play button), the controls could be excellent. I like the fact that the unit has HD, but due to the fickleness of the reception, it almost never locks onto an HD station. I had an HD unit in a previous car which had no problems with lots of HD stations, but this unit struggles - at best. Overall, I like the unit, in general, but not the reception problems and some of the control designs. Thus the rating.

Pros: sound quality, basic controls, basic design

Cons: poor QA, poor FM reception, poor bluetooth audio controls

    Great value

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit, especially for the price. It has everything I wanted in a car stereo and more. I wasn't a Pandora user unitl I bought this unit, but now I frequently listen to Pandora. Having HD radio wasn't on my must have options for purchasing a unit, but it definitely sounds great. The installation in my Subaru Outback went smoothly thanks to the detailed instructions and some on-line resources. The sound quality is quite a step up from the factory unit installed in my car. Using the unit is not intuitive, but everything makes sense once you read the instructions. The bluetooth pairing with my iPhone works incredibly well. The sound quality of phone calls is great and streaming of music from my phone works well.

Pros: Great value with all of the features I want.

Cons: Non-intuitive interface for first time users.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my 2008 Ranger and was very hesitant about doing such a project myself. Much to my surprise, the installation was pretty uneventful, except for trying to make the Ford wiring adapter attach to the back of the Pioneer stereo. It took a family expert in wiring and 3 phone calls to Crutchfield to get it all sorted out. In the end, the stereo worked perfectly, looks great, and sounds incredible. Plus, I saved $150-$200 in extra parts and labor. We don't have very many HD radio stations up here, so I can't tell you about the radio reception. However, the Ipod connection has made the music sound many times clearer and with more definition than in any stereo I've used. I also recommend going through the manual a time or two to make sure you know how to pair your phone up to the stereo, how to run the Ipod properly, and to switch through the menus to find the appropriate functions. I put the microphone clip just under the instrument panel between it and the steering column and I'm getting great response through each conversation. Our Chevy Equinox has a great Pioneer system in it and I am now a firm believer in the products they put out. Worth every penny.

Pros: Visibility, Easy to read Display, Great Sound Quality, Awesome Bluetooth/Phone paring and hands-free calling, etc. etc.

Cons: It would take me awhile to think of anything to nit-pick about.....maybe price, but you get a lot of bang for the buck compared to similar-equipped stereos.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great unit, installed easily in my 2002 F-150. The menus are slightly challenging, but after I played with it for 7 mins I got the feel of it fine. If you are a buyer of Pioneer head units as I am, you will get the feel for it quickly as well. I do however, recommend having the manual in the glove box though for quick reference. The Bluetooth is great, only issue is that there is no track naming. I called Pioneer about this, and the associate told me that they would put in a request with the developers to have this fixed. Its a little rediculous that my factory bluetooth has track naming in my corolla, but not in an aftermarket Pioneer. Hands free phone calls are great, I suggest using the clip that is included in the box, and putting the mike on the shifter (if your shifter comes out of the steering wheel). I ran the wires behind the steering wheel and dash. People have told me that they hear me crystal. It would be nice if you could move the inputs in the order that you use them the most. I.e. Bluetooth would be the first thing to pop up instead of USB. It takes a little while to switch to the bluetooth input, but this is not a huge deal, just a minor irritation.

    Pros: Just about everything!

Cons: No track naming via Bluetooth. No customization of inputs.

Installed this head unit in my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Got the PAC C2R-CHY4 harness as well. Installation took about 30 minutes. IPod controlls work great. Bluetooth paired with my Droid X2 in a matter of seconds. Only complaint is that the control knob hits the trim kit that Crutchfield supplies which keeps the faceplate from folding out all the way. It does not hinder any functions though. I am still able to remove the faceplate and insert CDs

Unlike other reviewers I haven't found the operation to be overly complication, and actually really like the master controller/lever/button setup which feels intuitive to me.

I spent a little extra to get this rado and I feel it was worth it. This radio offers all the features you could ask for and they all work very well. The bluetooth phone call quality is clear. The USB, iPod, and Pandora functions work well. The iPod sync up quickly. If you're using a regular USB thumb drive you cannot sort by artist, genre, etc. so make sure you organize your songs into folders. This is not an issue when you're using an iPod.

Pros: Quick processor, plenty of features, good call quality over bluetooth.

Cons: The display completely washes out in sunlight. Not just bright sun. It's basically unusable on a sunny day. I got an iPhone anti glare screen protector for the display and it did help. I can at least see what's playing during the day. At night time it looks wonderful although the flashy graphics are pretty limited. There are only 2 animations available and the rest are just static backgrounds that make the text difficult to read at a glance.

I've had several Pioneer decks in the past. Got a Kenwood the last time, great deck, but I had to go back to what I know will be a good product. This thing has everything you could want in a single din....and even higher end double dins. The sound is great, the built in bluetooth works great (people on the other end can hear my clearly), built in HD Radio is awesome, 2x USB ports are very convenient, nice display. Overall, I'm very happy with this product

Pros: Sound Quality. Bluetooth Sound quality. A lot of built in features (no having to add a bunch of external add-ons). Great Product!

Cons: No cons....just fiddle with the controls and refer to the manual if needed.

I installed this into my wife's 2004 PT Cruiser and the installation couldn't have been easier. The unit supplies plenty of power to the factory speakers and sounds really clean and clear, even at higher volumes. The connectivity options are great. My wife loves the ability to stream music from her iPhone 4 to the stereo via bluetooth. She also likes the option of being able to plug it in and control Pandora directly from the stereo. Overall, great unit for the money.

Pros: Easy installation, good feature set, connectivity options, sound quality

Cons: Only 2 animated backgrounds, the rest are static images. To change the time and access a lot of the "real" setting you have to power the unit off first.

Pretty simple install. Hands free phone quality is excellent. People that I have called from the car did not know that I was using hands free until I told them.. Blue tooth streaming is excellent. Great quality. It will pause the song when I shut off the car and pick right back up when I get back into the car. Pretty slick. I've only had it a few days and haven't figured out how to change the display color or eq settings, I guess I may have to read the instructions, but it's been pretty easy to use otherwise and the blue tooth streaming for Pandora and my music library has been awesome.

Pros: Bluetooth streaming for Pandora, music library on Iphone. Handsfree phone. 2 usb inputs in back of radio. Aux headphone jack option in front. I may never use the cd player... I researched a lot of head units and bang for your buck, this is the best one out there. I highly recommend it.

    Cons: None come to mind.

    miataguy from NJ on 6/11/2012

Great service and instructions from Crutchfield, and great sounding unit. A bit quirky interaction with my iPhone, but it works. But the big problem is the display. When the top is down, forget about seeing the display. The contrast setting doesn't do anything, and changing the color doesn't help. Its so bad, its almost worthless in bright sunlight.

Pros: Great sound, good iPhone integration, good Pandora interface. Easy enough installation.

Cons: Too many menu selections to do even the simplest thing, like adjusting the bass. The display disappears in bright sunlight, making it completely worthless.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the first deck I have bought in a quite a while. The wife and I decide on this one for several reasons. First, I had not even looked at new decks in several years and was impressed with the Parrot built bluetooth connectivity. The clarity is fantastic and I like how it syncs with your phone (I have a Samsung Epic android and the wife has the Iphone 4S). It pulls up missed calls, previous calls, ,messages and your contact list. Since this is installed in my wife's Tahoe, I haven't used it alot yet, but am impressed so far. I also liked having 2 rear USB ports. I ran one to the center storage console and out so the wife can plug in the Iphone. I ran the other USB extension cord to the glove box so I can plug in whatever I need. Being able to change the display and keypad colors is cool also.

Pros: *Parrot Bluetooth *2 REAR USB inputs *1 1/8" front input *Can change keypad and display colors *Works seamlessly with the GMOS controller and with steering wheel controls *Can turn on/off sub woofer output from deck controls *Plethora of features for the price

Cons: *It could be just a glitch with my steering wheel controls, but if you go past a function, like radio, you cannot go back to it without going all the way around again. Just a minor annoyance. *I do agree that the manual could be better written. I had a few questions, especially with the GMOS control and steering wheel controller. I called Crutchfield a couple of times and the techs were very helpful.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upgraded stock audio in 02 Tahoe. Looking for strong sound, Bluetooth, streaming BT audio, XM capability & wireless remote. My researach sent me to the Pioneer P series. Wireless remote capability was most important for me. Very happy with receiver - great sound, easy to use controls, great features. Installation went quickly, with one glitch. Early 2000 GM trucks require a special harness, which CF supplies - however, instructions failed to point out that a jumper wire is needed between blue wire on CF harness and pink wire on unused GM connector. Without this jumper, the stock amp won't get power and there will be no sound. Also, the compartment behind the radio head is very crowded - care must be taken when setting head unit into place. Features are best part, especially streaming audio, crystal clear Bluetooth for phone, and wireless remote - with Pioneer CD-SR100 remote. It mounts on your steering wheel and controls all head unit functions. I've reviewed this remote separately. Radio operation is pretty straight forward, but there is a lot to learn. An hour or so with the owner's manual will help, although it is printed so finely, that it's hard to read with 45+ year old eyes. I give the unit all 5's except for ease of use due to the hard-to-read manual and incomplete installation/wiring instructions. Final product was a neat looking head unit installation with loads of features and outstanding sound capabilities. Great product, Pioneer!

Pros: features Bluetooth phone streaming audio USB auxiliary ports satellite radio compatibility Wireless steering wheel remote Outstanding sound

Cons: Instructions for wiring not completely clear Owner's manual needs to be printed in larger type Display sometimes hard to read, depending on lighting conditions

    2002 GMC Yukon XL
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of online research before deciding to purchase this stereo for my Yukon XL. The reasons I bought this unit were: -Parrot Bluetooth calling (very clear phone calls in the car!) -Rear USB portS for connecting iPod and MP3 players (so, no "cord dangle" in front). Able to route the iPod cable through the dash to a center console area -Clean and solid looking display -Metal multi-control knob (I want things to feel durable when I'm going to use it a lot, not flimsy!) -Behind-plate CD slot, so the display is larger (for 1-DIN, this can be a big deal) -Pandora App compatible when you connect your iPhone. I'm a big Pandora fan, and plan to get my 1st iPhone later this year, so I was looking ahead when choosing this unit. So those were my priorities. Plus, I wanted to make sure that I was going with a solid brand name. Honestly, the combination of Pioneer and Parrot is what grabbed my attention. Installation was actually quite easy. I imagine that is likely to be the case with most late models (10 years and newer), since the dash plate is made to disconnect fairly easily, and the stereo is on rails and clips. I followed all of the directions that Crutchfield supplied and was done in a short amount of time. The only caveat is that the instructions missed one wire splice that i needed to do in addition to what was in the instructions. A quick call to Crutchfield Tech support fixed that in a jiffy (Thanks MATT!).

Pros: Great Bluetooth connection and call quality. When connected to bluetooth, it also shows your phones signal strength and battery level! 2 USB connections, plus iPhone app compatibility, plus bluetooth calling AND media streaming give you lots of media options. Solid-feeling controls, nice display and nice button layout. Lots of sound options beyond just your basics, to tune it best to your car's hardware. Who doesn't love a remote?!

Cons: Takes a little while to get used to new controls from the original stock GM stereo. Some settings can take you by surprise, so I recommend you keep the manual handy and keep reading through the features.. which are a LOT!

    Good product.

An Exceptional receiver with excellent sound

Dennis from Longview, WA on 4/8/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent receiver. I installed it in a BMW Z4 which presents a unique set of challenges to sound quality to any car stereo system. Despite a high level of road noise, the versatility of this receiver allows me to find the best settings for optimal listening (even with the top down at expressway speeds). The rear USB connections made it possible to leave my iPod connected and still remove the face-plate. It also allows me to store my iPod in a hidden location and thus increases the cars security. The receiver provides the means to make music selections on my iPod directly on the receiver and the alphabetic selection of artists and album titles makes it easy to select from an extensive selection of music and artists. The quality of iPod sound equals the quality of sound when playing a CD. The ability to control the color of the illumination of the buttons and the display is a great improvement over my older pioneer unit in which the bright blue illumination created immediate night blindness. Cell phone pairing was a cinch and the quality of the sound of the remote mike (mounted on my steering column) is more than adequate. With the necessary accessory, the remote steering wheel controls work beautifully. My only disappointment with the receiver is that it did not come with a protective case for the face-plate. Z4 owners should note that Scosche does make a dashboard kit that the fits the Z4 and it provides a professional result.

Pros: Great interface with iPod (easy to locate music with large selection) Color selection for illumination of buttons and display Great range of sound adjustments and sound quality Rear-mounted USB connection

Cons: Instruction book is challenging with small print and confusing organization (difficult to locate specific information) Does not include protective case for face-plate as older and less expensive pioneer receivers did. Resetting clock is counter-intuitive and always requires rereading the instruction and relearning the procedure.

Was very impressed with the functionality of this head unit. I replaced my factory 6 Disc CD Changer with this unit and it totally improved the sound quality of my Bose Speaker system. I love the fact that it has two rear USB hookups so that I have no exposed wires coming from the unit and can hook up my Nano and iPhone both! The Bluetooth works great and is simple to use and pulls over your address book too. For a single din receiver this is by far one of, if not the best on the market. I thought about going to a double din but this one surpassed many of the doubles with the options it has for the money. Also I hooked up the GMOS warning chime and Onstar retainer and the ASWC controler for my steering wheel radio controls and it all worked flawlessly the first hook up! Probably had about an hour and half in installation. VERY HAPPY! Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: Bang for you Buck, Two Rear USB outputs, Integrated Bluetooth, Pandora availability.

Cons: Single Din Reciever, Text is a little Grainy.

    Great price, not iPod friendly

bdk1 from Dallas, TX on 4/3/2012

Sound is amazing. Change the color of the keys and screen to match your interior lighting. Bluetooth streaming and phone work great. I had three major issues with this unit that made me return it back to the store. 1.) The iPod controls are completely unintuitive. After I took a phone call, the unit did not resume playing but instead paused the music. Since my iPhone was locked I had to use the Pioneer to un-pause the music in which I had to click and scroll through several menu options because there is no dedicated Pause/Play button. 2.) Bluetooth music streaming shows no track information on the unit so you don't know what's playing. 3.) The unit is not firmware upgradable so if your phone manufacturer changes something, you're screwed.

Pros: Great price, outstanding sound, customizable, bluetooth phone and streaming.

Cons: iPod and Pandora unfriendly, no dedicated Pause/Play button, not firmware upgradable for bug fixes, no bluetooth streaming track information.

I originally found out this radio was going to be released during the spring of this year on the Pioneer website. It has every feature I want in a radio. I like the fact you still can use compact disks and most of all use flash drives rather than an iPod. The HD tuner is great, signal strength is awesome. The Bluetooth for the cellphone works excellent and people can hear me fine. iPod feature is flawless and menus are responsive. I had a few Alpine head units the CDA117 and the CDA105. This radio hands down sounds better then both of those head units and plus bass throughput from the head unit has my factory speakers popping when the lows hit because of the loudness/bass boost setting. Also to mention it has a 24-bit DAC to do internal decoding which is nice and most of my music sounds pretty much live. Note this doesn't come with an iPod connection and purchased the Kenwood KCA-iP102 cable just for the fact the cable was cheap and it works.

Pros: 5-Band EQ, CD-Player, color changing feature.

Cons: The standoffs that hold the face has me concerned about the life of the material.

First off let me say that I did not buy my unit here, due to it being out of stock, but was in line to buy it. This is my second HU from Pioneer, the first was the DEH P7100BT for my wifes car. I was so impressed with that unit the Pioneer brand had an edge on the others. I had a Dual X7714 HD HU in my old car and it gave me a taste of all the new features that were available. I purchased an another vehicle last month and I soon realize how I had come a custom to having bluetooth, Mp3 via USB and bluetooth streaming from my smartphone, I plain old CD HU just would not cut it. The P9400BU has all the features I like and then some. The sound quality is what I expected from a Pioneer unit and the new color option (screen/control buttons) was what sealed the deal. The LCD screen is easy to read and see day and night and I'm 50 years old.

Pros: HD Radio, RDS, Dual USB inputs, AUX supports, Pandora support via iphone, Multi color option for controls/screen

Cons: Menu options can cause confusion at the advance levels when trying to return back to the previous play modes

Sorry, i miss the older Pioneer head units

James from Providence, RI on 3/15/2012

I have owned Pioneer head units for well over a decade. The last couple rounds of models have been big steps backwards. USB is great and beyond useful, that a given. My now favorite head unit- model p6000ub- was stolen. The next model I replaced with had FRONT usb, the stupidest thing I have ever seen. So I was really looking forward to replacing it with this model now because of 2 REAR Usb's. I cannot stand it, for the following reasons: 1. Background light. I have always selected the most simple background, with no "entertainment". In the past models, this has been a solid black screen with text. It has now been replaced with a background that is the same color as the selectable-color text, so it is a large rectangle of color. 2. The "function/main knob is strictly for configuration despite its rare need. You have to use the 2 paddles for everything now. If you click on the huge knob, it brings you to settings that are rarely used. 3. USB1/USB2/Tuner cannot be hidden. Even if you shut them of in settings, they still appear and have to be scrolled through to get to the source you want. It is 2012, can we please skip "tuner"? My next step is selling this model. Hopefully I can find a mint condition older model. I will not miss the color changes, silly IMO. I have lost loyalty to Pioneer after 2 rounds of failures.

Pros: Good looking, sleek. Simple install from previous Pioneer model

Cons: -cannot shut off and hide USB/Tuner -the BIG HUGE KNOB controls things that are rarely used, small clumsy paddle sused from common things -background light. Gone is the solid black scren with text. It is now a large lighted rectangle with text. Reminds me of 1980s car radios.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pioneer never fails to satisfy me. I own and still have a DEX-P99 Premier purchased 1996 that has been retired , still in working condition, in the original box, stuffed away in my closet. I will not throw that thing away since there are many audio memories so dearly attached! Around 2002 I purchased a DEH-P930 but wasn't so pleased with the sound quality after being spoiled with the P99. It wasn't a disappointment but rather an acclimation to something that was different like XM radio and cool graphics on an OEL screen that slowly faded in brightness. It's still in my Acura which will probably be removed for my personal keeping before I sell the car. Today, 2-15-2012, I have received my DEH-P9400BH with all the necessary installation gear after anxiously waiting and tracking the package every several hours. Had a question about the 12V power lead for the antenna adapter for my 2000 Beetle which led to a phone call to Crutchfield tech support. The wait time was about 7 minutes. The tech was very knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. Within 20 minutes I had the wire harness soldered and heat-shrinked. After 1 installation was complete! Thereafter about 2 hours of playtime and learning. This thing plays everything!!!! PIONEER ----------------------------->> AWESOME RADIO !!!!!! Will always be a loyal customer!!!

    HD Radio

HD Radio: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible analog or HD AM/FM stations.

iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio or RDS FM broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store.

Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

XM Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect and control Pioneer's GEX-P920XM satellite tuner (130P920XM, sold separately).

Note: A subscription to XM, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The DEH-P9400BH is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 3.0 (powered by Parrot) allowing to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. Bluetooth Technology is a short-range wireless radio connectivity technology that was developed as a cable replacement for mobile phones and other electronic devices. Bluetooth operates in 2.4 GHz frequency range and transmits voice and data at speeds up to 1 megabit per second.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Phone Pairing: Up to 5 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be registered to this head unit. Only one device can be used at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer DEH-P9400BH.

Hands-Free Communication: The DEH-P9400BH supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/HSP/OPP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The DEH-P9400BH allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the DEH-P9400BH, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Call Log: The 80 most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.

External Microphone: During your wireless phone call, you can talk into the head unit's included external microphone, and listen to the other party through the vehicle's speaker system. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth).

Note: The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone. The external microphone must be installed for Bluetooth hands-free communication.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The DEH-P9400BH will be able to control basic playback features; such as Play, Pause, Stop, Previous track, and Next track. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Note: The Pioneer head unit requires an optional Bluetooth firmware update (HW05-SW01.27.20) to enable Bluetooth AVRCP control and metadata display for the iPhone 5 or other Apple iOS6 device. If you do not own an iPhone 5 or iOS6 device, there is no need to install this update.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

MusicSphere: Pioneer's new proprietary MusicSphere technology allows you to enjoy your music in a new way by creating unique mood-based playlists via iTunes for your Apple iOS device. When installed on your Windows PC, the MusicSphere iTunes plug-in software will analyze the entire music library and create specialized playlists based on various musical attributes such as feeling (bright, energetic, gloomy, relaxing calm), rhythm pattern, beats per minute (BPM), year of the song and/or date added to the device. Additionally, through the MusicSphere, you can select preferred parameters of your music to create a "DJ Playlist".

Note: You can download MusicSphere directly to your Windows PC from the Pioneer website.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-P9400BH is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

2nd Auxiliary Input (optional): In addition to the front-panel minijack Aux input (AUX 1), you can connect a second auxiliary component by connecting an IP-Bus/RCA connector (AUX 2). The optional CD-RB10 (130CDRB10, sold separately) lets you connect an additional auxiliary component via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-P9400BH is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-P9400BH are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-P9400BH are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

7-Way Rotary Commander: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH features a 7-Way Rotary Commander for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 3-way rotary commander.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Preset EQ: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH is equipped with seven EQ presets. You can choose from Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2.

Graphic EQ: The DEH-P9400BH's two Custom EQ modes (1 & 2) let you adjust the head unit's 5-band graphic EQ (100Hz, 315Hz, 1.25kHz, 3.15kHz, & 8kHz). You can adjust each band between +6 to -6.

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost function raises the level of sounds lower than 100Hz. You can select a desired level of bass boost between 0 and 6 (Gain: 0dB to +12dB).

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Three Pair of 4.0-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Crossovers: The DEH-P9400BH employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • High Pass: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • Low Pass: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Subwoofer Controls: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Rear Channel Speaker Output: You can choose to use the rear channel output (speaker and preout) for full-range speaker or subwoofer. If you select "subwoofer", you can connect a 4-ohm subwoofer directly to each rear speaker lead, or a 2-ohm subwoofer to one of the rear speaker leads, without using an external amplifier.

    Display Features

Detachable Fold-Down Face: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH in-dash CD receiver features a manual fold-down faceplate with detachable face security. The manual fold-down face helps to prevent dust from gathering on the unit's CD mechanism. If the front panel is not detached from the head unit within five seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone will sound. The warning tone can be turned off in the menu, if desired. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Large Full-Dot LCD: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH features a 3-line full-dot LCD which makes it easier to see what is playing in most lighting conditions. You can easily view file/folder lists from your MP3, WMA, AAC, and CD Text-encoded discs, HD Radio presets, or data from your connected iPod/iPhone. The contrast of the display can be set between 0 and 15.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 27 preset colors (White to Rose), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red, Blue, and Green brightness levels), or scan through various color settings (All/Warm/Ambient/Calm/Custom).

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Multi-Language Display: For your convenience, this unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select the language which is best suited to your first language - English, French, or Spanish.

Entertainment Displays: You can enjoy entertainment displays while listening to each sound source. You can choose from the following: Background Visual, Genre, Background Picture (1/2/3/4), Simple Display, Movie Screen, or Calendar.

Calendar/Clock Display: The Pioneer DEH-P9400BH provides time, date, month, and year display. You can choose to have the head unit display the calendar and clock even when the unit is powered off (your vehicle must be running or in the accessory position).

Engine Time Alert: This setting allows you to measure the length of time that elapses from when the head unit is turned on and display the amount of elapsed time per set period (15 min., 30 min., or Off). There will also be an audible alarm. This function is handy if you are listening to the radio with the vehicle' ignition is in the accessory position, and the engine off.

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. You can turn the dimmer on or off. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-P9400BH comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The mute button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90% (function that cannot be performed from the front panel). In addition, the remote provides answer/end phone controls for Bluetooth.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.
