Impressive sound

Car audio enthusiasts know that replacing your factory speakers is the first step towards better sound. Pioneer TS-D6902R 6"x9" speakers sport innovative technologies and materials that'll put your car's sound miles ahead of where it was.

The journey begins with the innovative woofer — a high-tech composite material made from basalt and Aramid creates a rigid, lightweight cone. This design supplies solid midbass punch with exceptional midrange definition, while its rubber surround ensures smooth cone excursion. An extra-thick stamped metal basket supports the woofer cone, dampening vibrations and resonances that can unduly color your music's natural sound.

The oversized soft-dome tweeter radiates impressive highs, aided by a special wave guide that improves off-axis performance — meaning you'll get better stereo imaging throughout your car. A sealed rear chamber allows the tweeter to reach lower into the midrange to improve the definition of vocals and instruments. The tweeter's compact and powerful neodymium magnet provides excellent performance even when the power levels are cranked.

The Greatest 6x9's

MOSFET67 from Camano Island, WA on 4/7/2016

They are quite simply the best coaxial speakers I have ever heard, period. I have been involved with car audio for 30 years, having competed and judged IASCA shows through the 90's, and later working for Phoenix Gold in mktg./pr. These are truly in a class by themselves. They truly are as good as even the best separates (I am using both the 6x9's in the rear and the 6.5" of the same series in front), I had at first bought a set of ALpine Type S speakers but they sounded incredibly shrill and underpowered compared to the Pioneers. They image better than the Boston Pro series 6.5" and the MB Quart Refference Premium separates. This is partly due to the amazing tweeters employed. They are larger than the 1" tweeters typically included in better component sets, and b/c of this they play lower than most tweeters, allowing a lower x-over. As a result there is no "hole" where the tweeter meets the midbass (a problem with most large cone coaxials). These speakers posses both high-pass and low-pass filters with steep slopes which is also why they image so well. With speakers as different as a 6x9 cone and a 1.3" ceramic tweeter, it is Critical that they overlap as little as possible to avoid phasing errors, impedance errors that cause abnormal constructive and destructive interference. Anyway, if you are looking for a "competition-level" set of coaxials without spending a fortune, You Must Hear These!!

Pros: Amazing imaging, besting componet sets costing Many Times More (using Sheffield Labs IASCA evaluation CD), a Serious Slice of low bass (like a good 8" subwoofer), can handle over 100 watts RMS without breaking a sweat (I am currently feeding them that much but they can take Much More)

Cons: Absolutely None. OK, they don't look very flashy (but it's the ugly ones that sound amazing; crappy ones hide their shortcommings with bright colored cones, oversized but unessary baskets, and other useless gimicks

I'm happy

I have no complaints about these 6x9s. I've had them for about 6 months now and they kick hard. I have a pioneer head unit running power to them and that's it. The sound is crisp and clear; I play my music loud enough where you need to yell to the person next to you. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to play loud music but not to anyone who plans on bringing their car to a show. Good bang for the buck.

Pros: loud Clean sound Decent bass Good mid

Cons: none

I've done a lot of research trying to find some great 6x9s for my 2010 Dodge Avenger. I first purchased a set of Infinity Primus 6x9s for the rear deck and was satisfied. I have had Pioneer's D series components in other vehicles and felt that unless I wanted to spend thousands of dollars, I wouldn't find anything better. So even though these D series 6x9s have not so great reviews, I decided to purchase them anyways. Once again, Pioneer Stage 3 impresses. I'm currently running off of the stock head unit, which puts out quite a bit of power, and they sound good. I have a Helix Blue B Two amp to pair with them, but haven't had a chance to get a line output converter. Tried hi-level inputs with poor results. Ran some rca cables from another vehicle with a complete system and it was breathtaking. The realism, clarity and depth is beyond comparison. The fit guide says that they do not fit, but they are a perfect fit for the rear deck. Unsure about the front door fitment because of the depth, but will try in the near future. If not, a set of TS-D1720s are definently going in. Sad that Crutchfield doesn't carry them. Also a set of Pioneer Stage 4 midranges in the dash help complete the system.

Pros: Sound quality and build

Cons: Slightly less bass running off stock hu but filled in when amplified.

MINI speaker upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was expecting a huge upgrade in sound quality from the OEM speakers. They are better, but not as big of a jump as I expected

Pros: OK

Cons: sounds quality could be better,

Pretty good speakers

marc d from brevard county, FL on 1/12/2012

These speakers sound pretty good in the rear doors of my dodge ram 2010. I have 80 watts of precision power running to them, and they serve the purpose of rear fill very well. They actually put out a nice amount of bass and sound good for a 6x9. I have Boston Acoustics pro 60 se's up front in the doors, and they do not compare to the clarity of them. All in all though, they are some of the better sounding 6x9's I have had (Ive used infinity ref before and they sound better than those).

Pros: sound pretty good, quality construction

Cons: huge magnet!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have always had faith in Pioneer products and so I decided, with my limited 6x9 options, to purchase these. Well, they fit my 03 Ram 1500 perfectly and sounded fantastic until about one month later, when the capacitor located on the outside of the speaker housing decided to melt and pop. I am convinced that it wasn't abuse because I do not listen to my music at an ear piercing level nor was it hooked up to an aftermarket amp. It just plain old was a lemon I suppose. I still believe in Pioneer, but I will be hesitant before I purchase another set of car speakers with their name on it.

Dual-Layer IMX Aramid/Basalt Fiber Composite Cone: The Pioneer D-Series speaker features Dual-layer IMX (Injection-molded Matrix) aramid/basalt fiber composite cone woofers. Used in the surface layer, this Aramid/Basalt Fiber material is rigid and absorbent, enhancing stability and maintaining integrity throughout a wide temperature range. The woofers also have butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response, heat resistant voice coil, and 23-ounce Strontium magnets.

Rear Chamber Tweeter Enclosure: The Pioneer D-Series speakers feature an exclusive rear chamber tweeter enclosure. This design extends mid-range frequency for improved vocal imaging and staging. The TS-D6902R's 1-1/8" soft dome tweeters also utilize wave guides to control sound dispersion to make sound stage wider in the car. In addition, the tweeter uses a magnetic fluid neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

Grilles: The speakers come with black steel mesh grilles with silver heat-proof resin frames.
