Overview

Our take on the Pioneer TS-SW2502S4

Pioneer's TS Series of shallow-mount subs bring great bass to vehicles where conventional subs won't fit. Their low profile allows the use of slender enclosures that'll fit behind a truck seat or in any tight space while delivering the bass performance you need. The TS-SW2502S4 10" shallow-mount sub handles up to 300 watts RMS with a mounting depth of just 3-1/8".

A shallow-mount sub that rocks

Pioneer's TS Series of shallow-mount subs bring great bass to vehicles where conventional subs won't fit. Their low profile allows the use of slender enclosures that'll fit behind a truck seat or in any tight space while delivering the bass performance you need. The TS-SW2502S4 10" shallow-mount sub handles up to 300 watts RMS with a mounting depth of just 3-1/8".

The TS-SW2502S4 features an oversized cone made of mica-injected molded resin that moves more air and delivers accurate bass. The sub works best in a small sealed enclosure, making it ideal for fitting those tight spaces in today's smaller vehicles. Pioneer recommends the UD-SW250D downfiring enclosure or the UD-SW250T truck-style enclosure (sold separately) for use with this sub.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 260 and 525 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

I was skeptical that this slim of a speaker could produce the sound that I get from my other speaker with a much larger magnet and deeper mount volume. I was wrong. This speaker outperforms my other sub in my Acura (which is in the trunk).

Well built subwoofer that works in tight spaces

Dmitry from Fredericksburg, VA on 3/30/2017

Very nice overall subwoofer, as long as you provide a proper enclosure. Yes, it works in the smaller size box, but you will be doing this thing injustice by not stuffing it into 0.7 0cub.ft sealed enclosure. Want it louder - port it, calls for the same 0.7 cub.ft. I refuse to give up the trunk space, so after a long search, I opted for this unit, no regrets at all. The only other shallow subwoofer in this price range I would consider (looks a little better on paper) is Dayton Audio LS10-44.

Pros: Very shallow mount, very efficient, easy to build enclosure w/o sacrificing much space.

Cons: Could be a little better from 20-35hz... Should really be $100-$120 for what it is.

Big sound from a slim speaker

Pros: size, sound, versatility.

Seems worth the money

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Definitely worth the money, ease of use is a hassle, the sub does not fit into a normal enclosure, you will need to grind or cut your box slightly to get these to fit flush. Otherwise they sound great bought two replacing clarion with these. I have more range and depth in my system now and they are far from being broken in. I recommend these 100% if you don't have a problem with pulling your box and shaving it some. Or if you have an installer it will take him/her 20 minutes from removal to back rolling again.

Pros: Deep rich bass usually found in a much higher end sub.

Cons: Will not fit a conventional box. Alterations WILL be needed. Definitely not plug and play.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My son got one of the as a gift and it lasted about 3 months. So I called Crutchfield's customer support and they decided with the setup he has this was the best sub for him. It sounds great with the pioneer amp he has connected to it. Hopefully it will last longer than the last one he had.

Pros: Fits in small area.

Cons: Possibly build quality (if this one doesn't last either).

Better than p3

EB from Chicago on 3/8/2015

Sub sounds really good, good hard hitting bass. Had it on a 5 channel excelon amp, really did well until it froze up, the installer told me it was because of distortion , so now I have a excelon 600x1 on a p3. Waiting on my pioneer replacement, runs circles around the p3

Pros: Good Bang for your buck

Cons:

Amazing first time sub. Puts real sound quality to your music. But if you are looking for a hardcore system there is better ones out there.

Pros: Really small and compact. Great sound quality. Easy to install

Cons: Doesn't hit as hard as a 12 inch.

Awesome Subwoofer

Jake from Ohio on 6/18/2014

I Bought the old version of this sub over a year ago for my single cab s10. This sub will be more than enough for genre's like rock, country,rap/hip hop, electronic and more. This sub hits hard and will shake my whole truck without distorting.

Pros: Shallow mount can fit in almost any vehicle with a custom box, great sound, great price, versatility.

Cons: This sub is power thirsty, you will need a good amp to power it.

Features

Shallow Mount Woofer: Pioneer's Shallow-Mount subwoofers are designed to provide installation options for a broad range of vehicles. They can be mounted behind or under the seats of many vehicles. The TS-SW2502S4 has a Mica reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cone. The process of bonding reinforced pulp to the back of the cone improves its damping capability and eliminates excess vibration. The oversized cone structure provides more surface area without changing the external dimensions, producing louder and deeper bass by moving more air.

Terminals: The spring post terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.35 ft³ to 0.7 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 0.6 ft³.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.5ft³ to 0.7 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 0.6 ft³ with a single 3" diameter x 13" long port.

Bandpass Box Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.35 ft³ per chamber to 0.6 ft³ per chamber; within this range the ideal size is 0.45 ft³ per chamber. One 3" diameter x 4.5" long port should be used in an enclosure with 0.45 ft³ chambers.

Why did you buy this?

New pickup has shallow area under back seat, old box and sub would not fit. [ Jeff  Mar 09, 2017 ]

I picked the subwoofer for a custom box I made that fits behind the factory subsoofer panel on a 2002 chevy tahoe and this pioneer subwoofer was the biggest bang for my buck that I could find which fits perfectly in the box I made and it hits harder then and cleaner then most single 12 inch woofers ive seen installed, plus I have that factory look with the base I love. Best option for my F150. Sounds great on a Sound Ordinance amplifier [ Brian  Dec 31, 2015 ]

AudioControl's Epicenter bass processor maximizes the low-frequency power and punch of your bass system, regardless of whether its paired with a shallow mount or full-size subwoofer. I would expect the bass to sound better with any sub used in conjunction with the Epicenter. I hope that helps. You should only wire your subs in parallel they are each 4 ohms that will drop the to 2 ohms and you will get the most out of your amp. Parallel is positive to positive negative to negative [ Pioneertech  Oct 23, 2014 ]
