Best sub in its price range!
These were my first subs I ever owned. Better subs are available, but, the W303r's are the best in their price range. I initially powered two with a Sony Xplod 1000/2 amp (185x2@4ohms), but later replaced it with a Pioneer GM-D8601 (500x1@2ohm). The W303r's were in separate 1.25 cubic feet sealed boxes. They hit every note fairly equal and decently clean. The coils never overheated or stunk. Later, I ran one sub in a 3.2 cube ported box @33hz, powered by a Rockford Prime 150-2 bridged. The higher notes were weak but the lows (30hz-45hz) were crazy. It was just as loud as my original setup, maybe even louder. I tried switching the amplifier's filter into the High Pass setting rather than Low Pass and the frequency response was well balanced. It played everything from 30hz to 80hz with authority. Tonality was amazing, very clean sound. I've had many different setups. Some of the subs I have experience with are JL Audio 12w0v3, OZ Matrix Elite 15, Pioneer Champion Pro W3002D2, Sundown E-12v2, Sundown E8v3, Sundown SA-12, Rockford P3 12, Soundqubed HDS3-12, Pioneer W252PRS 10, and Alpine Type S SWS-1041D. Of all my setups, the W303r in a ported box with the High Pass Filter on was my second favorite setup, second only to my Pioneer Stage 4 W252PRS. If you are limited on price and space, the W303r is a great option. Functions well in a small sealed box, highly efficient, cheap, clean sound, wide frequency response.
Pros: High sensitivity Good sound quality for the money Capable of playing up into the 60s and down into the 30 hertz range (good for the price) Optimized for large sealed box but still works well in a small sealed box (SQ) Very loud in a large, low-tuned ported box (SPL) Lightweight (saves gas, easier to handle) Sub is fairly shallow (only needs about 6" of internal depth)
Cons: Thermal power handling could be better (doesn't handle abuse well) Don't expect the W303r to handle over 250 RMS Low amount of linear excursion (5.9mm XMAX) Single 4 ohm voice coil (a 1 ohm stable amp would need to be 1000 watts RMS or more to be adequate)
