Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD

This Pioneer features a customizable 6.1" touchscreen display.

MirrorLink™ compatible

The MirrorLink system provides unparalled in-dash control over an ever-growing list of Android™ smartphones, including the popular Samsung Galaxy S III and Nokia Symbian models. With MirrorLink, you'll enjoy touchscreen control from your Pioneer over music, phone contacts, and select apps — connect your compatible Android phone with Pioneer's CD-ML100 MirrorLink adapter (not included), and enjoy a seamless experience when you slip behind the wheel.

Pioneer's innovative AppRadioLIVE streamlines your app info and functions into one easy-to-use interface. You'll enjoy quick access to your music, media, calendar, and other sources you subscribe to, just by downloading the AppRadioLIVE app and syncing your services. AppRadioLIVE works with your apps to provide visual map guidance and access to points of interest, as well as the ability to search for concerts, shows, and other local events of interest. And you can show several sources of information simultaneously, quickly shifting from one to another with a touch of your finger.

Note: AppRadio Mode and AppRadioLIVE are currently not compatible with iOS 8 due to stability and display issues. Please see "Details" for more information.

Video and touchscreen controls

The 6.1" LCD screen on this Pioneer plays DVDs in bright, clear detail when you're parked. When you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen, and you'll be able to view video content from your iPod or IPhone with the addition of optional cables (check the "Details" tab for full information). And of course you can plug in a rear-view camera to play it safe in crowded parking lots.

Don't forget the music

You can play just about anything on this Pioneer, including just about any kind of disc or USB storage devices loaded with files. And when you connect your iPod to the USB input, you'll be able to use the receiver's controls to access your playlists. You can use handy tools like Alphabet Search and Link Search to find the song you want fast. You can also use Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable to connect your iPhone to the receiver, then take charge of your Pandora® account from the touchscreen, complete with thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls.

Android users aren't left out in the cold either. If your Android phone supports the media transfer protocol (MTP), you'll be able to browse and play back the music that's stored on your phone, no extra app required.

Pioneer's exclusive MIXTRAX feature creates a DJ-like experience with content from select sources, with special effects between songs and variable-color lighting that pulses with the beat of your music. You can even tailor the receiver's appearance to your taste by choosing from five display colors and 112 key panel illumination options.

Because great sound matters

The receiver's powerful built-in amplifier delivers crisp sound, while the 8-band equalizer offers plenty of ways to tweak the output. Three pairs of preamp outputs make it easier to connect external amps, and this receiver offers an auto-equalization feature to tune your system (microphone required).

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Entertainment Center. It has a radio with great sound, a CD player, DVD player and a backup camera view screen all in one. It also includes a remote control. All for this price. Ford wants $300+ for just a radio with a CD player. I have had it for a month and it works great. The only problem with it is that the touchscreen can be a bit touchy.

Pros: Radio works great, has great sound and receives lots of stations. Works well with backup camera. Plays DVD's well.

Cons: Touch screen can be a bit touchy to use; real buttons would be better, but I can't complain for the price!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD - I have mixed feelings about this receiver. It's simple, which I like. Sound quality is good. But I have it amped and eq'd. Installation was easy. If you want or need navigation and Bluetooth don't go with this model. When playing a CD the display is way too small to see what track you're on. I use it with an Android phone and getting through the file system to your music folder is kinda wonky. Not sure why it chooses to start in the folder it does.

Pros: Simple. I don't use navigation or Bluetooth. The attached USB is really nice. Plenty of output for charging.

Cons: Takes FOREVER to load the tracks when you mount your phone. Haven't found a definitive answer on if you can mount a USB thumb drive to this unit.

    Fantastic product

This head unit is fantastic. I could imagine any other one in my Accord. It's easy to use, it was a breeze to install. Overall it's just a fantastic product.

Pros: Easy to use A lot of options Overall good

Cons: It's hard to see during the day with polarized sunglasses on.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received this unit and as I was un-boxing it I realized there was no Bluetooth microphone in the box. I started looking online to see if it came with one and read a review stating it didn't come with Bluetooth. Then I started to wonder how a radio in this day and age wasn't equipped with Bluetooth. It has a ton a features, leaving out Bluetooth was an odd one not to include. I almost think there should be something in the description stating that. Anyway, I returned it and got charged for a return label which is cheesy, petty, shameful and pretty poor service for a company of this size. On to a different retailer!

    Pros: Tons of features

    Cons: Lack of Bluetooth!

Have been trying to install in my Toyota 4Runner now for a month... WAY to many add-ons to get the radio to talk to the vehicle and no room in the dash to locate all the extra equipment required.... I'm working on it....

    Pros: Nice looking, Many features,

Cons: -Not made to install in a Toyota 4Runner..... Careful what vehicle you try to install it in... If they say it requires anything extra to install---RUN.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A+ - The most bang for your bucks. Installed it on a 2000 Audi A6 2.7T to replace the stock (non-bose) unit. Big improvement in sound quality and loudness. Plus the "coolness" factor.

Pros: 5 stars fro the value to the dollar for the features it has and the sound quality. Future expandability - GPS, amp, back up camera, video out for additional monitor (for those driving a van), video in if you need to use the headunit as monitor, etc. FM reception is outstanding and sub control for RCA output at the back. Video is a bonus. Touch screen is responsive.

Cons: the only thing I could think of is the USB nad aux port at the back of the unit. But this is something that can be easily resolved.

    Very cool car stereo

Great product. Relatively easy install with experience. Crutchfield customer service cannot be beaten in any industry.

Pros: Cool touch screen display, moving backgrounds, color changing button LEDs, and plays DVDs. Also has Mixtraks which is decently cool.

Cons: Price. Otherwise pretty good stereo.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an Infiniti G37S the a screen that allows me to display my iPhone 6. I wanted a similar screen in my Honda Element. I first tried a Kenwood unit, but I could not get the iPhone plugged into the back of the unit, since it has a proprietary AV input. I sent that unit back and got this Pioneer, which has RCA inputs on the back of the unit for AV input. I use a lightning to HDMI from the iPhone 6. The other end of the HDMI plugs into a HDMI-to-RCA converter. The RCA cable then goes directly into the back of the unit. The brake lever bypass was a bit tricky. The brake wire on the Kenwood simply needed to grounded. This unit is a bit more sophisticated. You will need to install a toggle switch between the brake wire and ground. It must be switched off and back on each time the car is started (to use AV input or DVD without the parking brake on). I use this feature to display Google Maps from my iPhone while driving. I like this so much, I bought one for my RV as well. The only thing that could be better would be to have an HDMI input. However, those units are much more expensive. After installing it

Pros: Great screen. Lots of custom options. Excellent audio. RCA A/V inputs on the back. USB input for iPhone.

Cons: Lights behind buttons and around knob can be changed in color, but cannot be dimmed. They are a bit bright at night.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very solid product! The 17 watts this decks gives the stock speakers made a huge difference in the factory sound quality. Tons of features that makes the music highly adjustable. I wanted something I could hook up an old ipod to without all the mirrorlink nonsense. This was perfect so that I could still use the ipod screen to change my music yet at the same time have the remote to change noise levels. When its all said and done im very happy with this product and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid deck that wont break the bank

Pros: power, easy to use. Couldve hooked up Bluetooth to the aux input in the back but would rather just use my phone.

Cons: overpriced! Found online for less money but stuck with Crutchfield because of the service techs that could help if needed. (I didn't) oh well

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Explorer had a disc stuck in the player, and I didn't think it was worth the money to fix it. The Pioneer AVH X1600DVD gave me a nice display screen, very adjustable sound quality, the ability you listen to the mp3 player and Pandora Radio on my iPhone, not to mention giving me the ability to have a back up camera. All of this at a very good price.. The controls seemed a bit confusing at first but were really quite easy to get used to and operate.

Pros: Easy installation, and operation, with all the features I wanted in the radio in my car, I just don't like the Bluetooth equipment as I think it takes my attention off driving.

Cons: I haven't found anything about this set up that I don't like.

    Perfect for my use

JoelS from Crystal Springs, MS on 6/29/2014

Purchased to install in a '96 Corvette, replacing the factory Bose radio and speakers. I previously had a JVC single-DIN head unit - it worked OK but I was not happy with the appearance. A little additional trimming was all that was needed to install, and it looks great mounted in the dash! Great EQ settings - this is my work car (I average 1200-1500 miles a week) so most of my music is MP3 on a flash drive. The replay is phenomenal! I don't mess with Bluetooth or have an iPhone so those features weren't important to me...very pleased with my choice. Looks like an amp is in store....

Pros: EQ adjustability, touchscreen, sound quality, matching control colors to my instrument panel

Cons: USB/Aux connections on rear of unit

    good FIRST double din

Jamal S. from Toledo, Ohio on 4/15/2014

This is a quality double din for someone looking for a nice simple radio that plays movies and music. I love the simplicity of everything which makes everything a breeze (even installation). The back of the radio can connect to almost everything aftremarket you'd imagine adding to a car. The sound quality is good along with the -band equalizer for specific tuning. The only thing i dont like about this model is the lack of Bluetooth and its buttons/touch. Although you are provided with an USB extentor of 3 Feet nothing beats bluetooth. The button are flat and require a little harder push but nothing that annoying. The touch is quite on point but sometimes lags and is stubborn

Pros: Equalizer, Controls, Menu, Installation, Music Quality, Remote, RCAs

    Cons: Buttons, and BLUETOOTH

    • Picture Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for the head unit's video source and rear-view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast) color (adjusts color saturation), temperature (adjust the color temperature), and Dimmer (adjusts brightness).

    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)
Note: The power specifications for the AVH-X1600DVD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD features three pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Crossovers: The AVH-X1600DVD employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 8-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 8-band graphic equalizer (40Hz, 80Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz, and10kHz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into your compatible Pioneer A/V receiver's rear-panel AUX 3.5mm input. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Sonic Center Control: Sound that is suited for the listening position can easily be created with this function. You can adjust sound more toward the listening position left (7) to right (7).
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.
    • Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source (AM, Pandora, iPod, Apps) to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App/Media App Control mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad. It is also not supported by USB MTP devices.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation.

    AV Connections

Dual AV Inputs: The Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD has dual AV inputs to connect two external audio/video sources. The head unit has a rear-panel 3.5mm minijack AV input for connecting a portable audio/video device. There is also a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA AV input for connecting a video component such as a mobile TV tuner or game console. The rear-panel 3.5mm minijack input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod/iPhone (using the proprietary Pioneer cable).

Video Output: The AVH-X1600DVD features a rear-panel composite video output that allows you to connect an external display to the unit. You can play back the same video source which is being played on the head unit. You can select the unit to output a 16:9, Letter-Box or Pan-Scan aspect ratio to match your external display's screen size.

Rear-View Camera: The AVH-X1600DVD is equipped with a composite video rear-view camera input for the addition of an optional backup camera (130NDBC6, sold separately). The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image. When the vehicle's transmission is put in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (violet/white wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.8 seconds. Pioneer recommends using a camera with a mirror image (reversed) output. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

Navigation Ready: The Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD allows you to connect the Pioneer AVIC-U260 add-on navigation unit (130AVIC260, sold separately) through its RGB Input. This versatile hideaway unit allows you to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. Get to your destination by inputting an address or search through the POI library while enjoying whatever source is currently playing.

Note: If you are already using the head unit's RGB input to access AppRadio Mode from your iPhone or MirrorLink from your compatible smartphone, then you cannot connect this add-on navigation module (or vise-versa).

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD includes an IR remote control (CXE5116) for wireless operation of the multimedia head unit and your connected devices.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Yes, I can play anything with a headphone jack through the 3.5mm hook up. [ Mykross  Aug 24, 2015 ]
I dont have a new iphone so i never had the option to even try carplay, but based on the physical controls and interface layout, im going to assume it is not compatible with apple carplay. Carplay is pretty new and advanced so id think that any headunit that supports it would have that clearly written all over the site/packaging. [ Randy  Jun 19, 2015 ]
    Yes [ CHAD  Jun 11, 2015 ]

I ran the cables through the back of my dashboard into my glovebox. Worked out quite well. [ Jonathan  Apr 08, 2015 ]
I do feel it added some power to the factory speakers and improved the sound! [ Brett  Mar 17, 2015 ]
I installed this unit in my 2003 Tacoma and it sounds better than expected. The highs are more defined than with the factory unit. The low end is where I got the most improvement with plenty of bass. I had to dial back on the low frequency on the eq to save the factory speakers. [ SEATTLE  Mar 13, 2015 ]
    Indeed [ Andrew  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Obviously it depends on the vehicle and the amount of power the original head unit is generating, but I put this in my wife's honda and it was a big improvement in sound, volume and clarity. For the price,Mir was definitely worth every penny [ Craig  Mar 11, 2015 ]
    No [ bRady  Mar 11, 2015 ]
It actually did. I love the unit! [ Carlos  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Yes! When installing a aftermarket headunit or radio, will usually give a more clear and higher output than your stock unit. It'll make the speakers sound much better than they did with the original stock unit! I personally own this unit and couldn't be happier! [ Teresa  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Yes it does boost power a little but stock speakers will only sound so good even cheap after markets sound better [ Josh  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Yes it will. I installed it in my 2009 charger and it was a lot stronger than the factory system. [ carl  Mar 11, 2015 ]
Yes the 3.5mm plugin will output music through your car speakers if plugged into your laptop headphone output. [ Larry  Mar 04, 2015 ]
    Yes. It is a audio input. [ Nicholas  Feb 18, 2015 ]
