The Bluetooth® advantage

In this day and age, you really can't afford to be driving with one hand as you talk on the phone, or squinting at your iPod to find the next song. Pioneer's AVH-X2500BT DVD receiver brings all the advantages of a touchscreen receiver to your vehicle, along with the convenience and safety of Bluetooth. You'll enjoy hands-free calling with your compatible phone, plus the ability to wirelessly stream and control music from compatible phones and other Bluetooth devices. Once you've driven with a Bluetooth receiver, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Sweet touchscreen controls and video playback

Pioneer kicks touchscreen control up a notch or two on this receiver, as Touch Slide technology adds a new dimension to fingertip control over many functions. Want a new EQ curve? Just draw it on the screen with your finger and you've got it. And you can browse video files through thumbnail images — just touch them to check out a sneak preview.

You can also change the receiver's appearance to match your dash by choosing from five display colors and 112 key panel illumination options. And when you're ready to get the party started, MIXTRAX will liven up your time on the road. This feature creates a DJ-like experience with content from your iPod®, iPhone®, or Android™, adding special effects between songs and variable-color lighting that pulses with the beat of your music.

The receiver's 6.1" LCD screen plays DVDs and other video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. You can keep your passengers entertained by sending video from the receiver to a rear-seat screen — that sure makes those long road trips go faster. You'll be able to view video content from your iPod or IPhone (video playback requires CD-IV202AV cable kit and other adapters with iPhone 5, plus a firmware update — coming soon — from Pioneer) with the addition of a Pioneer CD-IU201S cable. And you can play it safe when you throw it into reverse by plugging in a rear-view camera.

Pioneer AVH-X2500BT

Advanced App Mode lets you access many popular apps from the receiver.

Advanced App Mode

Pioneer has added the smartphone integration technology developed for their acclaimed AppRadio receivers to their DVD receiver lineup. Advanced App Mode integrates your iPhone into your driving experience — it lets you launch and control compatible iPhone apps from the face of your receiver, putting a variety of music, navigation, social media, and other apps at your command. The simplified app menu on the Pioneer's big touchscreen is much easier to see when you're driving, so you can put your phone's apps to work safely. Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable is required (also requires CD-IV202AV cable kit and other adapters with iPhone 5). You can learn more and see the latest compatible apps here.

A firmware update is available from Pioneer that will provide enhanced iPhone 5 compatibility to enable AppRadio Mode. However, due to an unforeseen communication error with the Pandora Internet radio app, audio playback and display of metadata from Pandora are disrupted. If you use Pandora and don't intend to use AppRadio Mode (also known as Advanced App Mode) at this time, please do not install this update. Pioneer is working on an update to allow for both Pandora and AppRadio Mode, to be released at a future date.

AppRadioLIVE makes it easy

Pioneer's innovative AppRadioLIVE streamlines your app info and functions into one easy-to-use interface. You'll enjoy quick access to your music, media, calendar, and other sources you subscribe to, just by downloading the AppRadioLIVE app and syncing your services. AppRadioLIVE works with your apps to provide visual map guidance and access to points of interest, as well as the ability to search for concerts, shows, and other local events of interest. And you can show several sources of information simultaneously, quickly shifting from one to another with a touch of your finger.

Ready to roll with your mobile devices

When you connect your iPod to the rear USB input cable, you'll be able to use the receiver's controls to access your playlists. Handy tools like Alphabet Search and Link Search to make it easier to find the song you want fast. Android users aren't left out in the cold either. Many Android phones support the Pioneer Connect app, which lets the receiver access music files when your Android is plugged in via USB.

If you're a fan of streaming Internet radio, connect your iPhone to the receiver with Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable and take charge of your Pandora® account from the touchscreen, complete with thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls. And don't forget, you can also enjoy all your CDs, DVD and CD discs full of MP3 or WMA music, or USB storage devices loaded with files.

Because great sound matters

The receiver's powerful built-in amplifier does a great job, delivering crisp sound at impressive levels, while the 8-band equalizer offers plenty of ways to tweak the sound to your liking. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever perks up the flat sound of compressed music by restoring high-frequency information. For those looking to build a system, three pairs of preamp outputs make it easier to connect external amps, and this receiver offers an auto-equalization feature to tune your system (microphone required, not included).

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Really Great Unit

Bob S. from Tampa, FL on 2/5/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed the unit into a 08 Mustang GT500 with Shaker system. Install was flawless and looks like it should have been there the whole time. The unit is very loud with the built in amps with the shaker system and very clear. All functions works as expected and have no issues to complain about really that cannot be rectified. I highly suggest this unit as I replaced with Crutchfield's help another Pioneer unit Double Din 700BX that I did not like after getting a few days ago. I did not like its looks in the car or its sound.

Pros: Great unit and easy setup Everything works as expected Sounds clear and loud in my speakers Good unit for price Bluetooth enabled

Cons: To play videos from USB it takes a little too long for my taste to read the drive compared to music The cable that attaches (must buy extra) for app mode has hard time staying connected to Iphone4S with case on and is a little tender to the touch. I bought this aftermarket though and it does work with NAV and everything else after playing with.

Great unit and features for the price. I wanted a unit that offered bluetooth, pandora and the ability to connect a backup camera. This unit served that purpose at a very reasonable cost. The pandora function is great and easy to use. My phone automatically connects once I enter the vehicle and turn it on. Then I can control my pandora stations through the head unit without ever having to take the phone out of my pocket.

Pros: Price, bluetooth, pandora, ease of install and use

    2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am extremely disappointed in the 2500bt. Every so often, without indication or apparent cause this radio resets itself to factory defaults. Sometimes I can the car can be off for hours/ day before it resets itself. Apparently this is a discontinued model and the equivalent is almost $100 more. Not cool. Not cool at all. This isn't the first radio I've installed, nor the first thing I have soldered. All the connections between the radio harness and the Pac harness are soldered and continuity tested. Crutchfield rep told me that it will reset if voltage drops below 11.something. Seems to me that there is an internal voltage regulation problem on the 12v constant. I did a little research and I see I'm not the only person with this issue. Also, on a side note. I am actually pretty disappointed in Crutchfield. This was for my wife's 2009 Jetta Sportwagen and I received no instruction sheet like I have for other vehicles. I called and was told vehicle research hadn't been done yet on this vehicle. I am surprised that between 2005.5 and now no Jetta has been researched. Same dash as far as most people I contacted know.

Pros: Everything that is listed in the specs.

Cons: That it periodically resets itself.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent radio for the price. The Bluetooth is very clear on the other parties end when the vehicle is in motion. I love how I can leave my Bluetooth on my phone and leave the car and come back it will automatically re-sync and continue to play the music that's what turned me away from my alpine. The screen is very clear, the sound quality is good even without an amp set up for the surrounding door speakers.

Pros: Easy to use, Convenient, Bluetooth, Pandora sync, Re-sync with device automatically, loads phone book, comes with remote

    Cons: None.

    2004 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my son's car, a 2004 Mustang. Fits and looks great, and sounds even better. Display is great, touchscreen is responsive and works well--not as good as an iPhone but better than most other touchscreen interfaces. Overall the UI and ease of use is so much better than any car stereo I've ever had. However, the physical buttons on the left side need better feedback (crisper click or longer throw) and easier to read labels. Bluetooth setup was a snap, making and receiving calls is super easy, as is streaming music or playing via USB. Connecting phone with USB will charge the phone which is a nice bonus. DVDs look and sound really good, but probably won't be using that much. Had a hard time deciding between this and several non-LCD models. My first thought was, "Who needs DVD in their front seat?" But the big display, better song info and ease of phone use made the extra money totally worth it. Looks so much cleaner on or off, and put a huge smile on my son's face! Even bigger when he heard it. Easy to connect and install; Only difficulties coming from the oddities of the way Ford designed the "Mach" sound system, which the Crutchfield website and install sheet described well. You will need to connect a wire to the parking brake to enable DVD display, so a little extra work there. I did waste a half hour thinking I connected it wrong before I realized you have to engage the parking brake, release it, then engage again before it will display a DVD movie.

Pros: Looks and sounds nice and clean Easy intuitive interface Easy Bluetooth phone use and music streaming USB interface in rear (clean in front, easy to route cable to glove box or center console) and it charges phone Upgrade options for GPS nav and backup camera

Cons: A bit more expensive than I'd like. Pioneer should have a cheaper unit without CD/DVD disc player. Physical buttons could be easier to read and use, but easy to learn Silly parking brake procedure to use DVD

it is an excellent piece, great quality of sound, looks cool!!!!!

Pros: easy to install, several screen and color options, BT works like a champ!!!

Cons: I bought this unit without navigation because e I was told that I can hook it up to my I phone 5 and it is true but you need to expend some money and time setting up the cables trough the dashboard same as downloading upgrades for the unit, after that it will work but with just some applications you need to put in the phone, at the end I think is worth it to expend some more money in a head unit with navigation on it......

    Could be better

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We bought this unit to run iPhone apps through. I wanted to be able to play my playlists and run a navigation app. This unit does not do this well. We tried all of the compatible nav apps and it seems the apps cause the music to "skip" constantly like an old CD. You can play your playlist through bluetooth without the "skipping". It's only when you are using the AppRadio and running multiple apps that your music will "skip". This is very disappointing since it is the only reason I bought this unit. If you are looking for a head unit for this purpose; look elsewhere.

Pros: Sound quality is better than factory stereo

Cons: Does not do what it is meant to do well

This isn't just a great value, it's a great receiver PERIOD. I've always been a pioneer guy, and this radio will keep me as a customer.

    Pros: Value, features, sound quality

Cons: Time sensitive parking break sensor. If you are going to bypass the parking break, do it with a toggle switch. If you use a relay, the radio has a time sensor built into it. Once you switch to video the relay clicks too soon so you have to cycle the power to the receiver. It's not a big deal, but a toggle switch solves the issue.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this HU to replace the factory unit on my 2012 Nissan Frontier. I feel that I made a good choice. Installation was simple. Everything works great. iPod controls for my 5th gen iPod work flawlessly, and charge the iPod at the same time. Bluetooth setup was simple, and connects to both my Android phone, and my iPod. The touch screen works good. Very easy to use, but it does wash out in the sun a little. DVD picture is pretty good, as well. If I had to choose again, and had the same amount to spend, I'd get this one again.

Pros: Ease of installation. Ease of use. Features. DVD Picture

Cons: Screen washes out a little in direct sunlight.

    Very easy to use!

JeffR from Pasadena, MD on 11/11/2013

I bought this receiver for my work van, a 2013 Chevy Express, and even though Crutchfield says it does not fit, it did fit without any modification needed. I am very happy with this receiver. I found it very easy to set up and use without really having to consult the manual. The touchscreen interface even seems more responsive than my Alpine ICS-X7HD. I ran the AutoEQ setup using the microphone that came with my home theater receiver and the results were excellent. Power output is very good. Since this is in my work van I am not running any external amps. I have it powering a pair of Phoenix Gold 6.5" seperates in the front doors and a very old Collins bass tube behind the seat. With the built in crossover I get excellent bass with this setup, suprisingly with just the built in amp. My only complaint about it is getting video to play is sometimes tricky. Even when everything is set properly (parking brake on - off - on) sometimes DVD video will not show up, only sound. I have had to stop & start the video at times to get it to play. Not sure why this is but it doesn't happen all the time and since I don't use it for video too much it's not really an issue.

Pros: Excellent touchscreen interface layout. Excellent power output from the built in amp. Excellent built in crossover and AutoEQ

Cons: Issues playing video occasionally. Would like the option of manual settings for time alignment as opposed to only the "Sonic Center Control"

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was hesitant to purchase a touch screen DVD player for my wife's car thinking it was going to be expensive and complicated for her to use . I looked at crutchfield and was surprised at the cost. I used the filters to make sure i got what i wanted and needed in a new receiver and at $279 shipped with installation gear, perfect. I wanted Bluetooth so she could use her phone hands free and be able to stream music using Pandora on an android phone. The sound quality using her phone is perfect, I can't tell she is using her phone hands free. Streaming music using Pandora is perfect also, you control everything on screen, from like and dislike to skipping tracks and they also show album art, artist name, song title and album name. Watching a DVD is simple and video quality is great along with the sound. The touch screen is a little slow but it doesn't bother me, cause how often do you need to make adjustments unless your using it to control your ipod, which works great but I use playlist so I don't have to keep looking for songs. My wife is able to use and find things easily as I was hoping. The pioneer interface is simple to use.

Pros: ease of use, cost and quality.

    Cons: slow touch screen

I really love the stereo. The sound is good and has very nice controls. I mainly use the bluetooth and the connectivity with my phones is very good. The only problem I had was while installing it. I don't know much about cars and has some trouble connecting one of the wires to the parking brake. I, actually ended up, consulting with some car mechanics who were extremely good at installing. But the installing difficulty may have been just with me. Just with the stereo, I have no qualms at all.

    Pros: Good sound

Cons: Installation instructions could have been clearer.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in wife's Sequoia...Pioneer Radio App needed to converse with phone and the app runs like a cold 1970 big block on a stuck manual choke. Worst part is that the Axxess AWSC steering wheel remote piece sold to allow use of the stock steering wheel controls is inop and techs at Axxess have had multiple problems with this head unit and their controls....kind of 'dead in the water' with a wife's nails that don't work so well on a flat screen so I get to sleep in the doghouse until somebody unscrews this problem (Oct '13). UPDATED 10/28: Just learned there's no way to get the power antennae down with car running...Pioneer remote out doesn't actually kill the power completely so now, as my wife is stuck in the rain outside the parking garage, I get to figure out how to run a switch to kill antennae power and get it down so she can get in the garage. I wish the EE folks at Pioneer got to greet her after she comes home...

Pros: good fit, allows app use after everything 'warms up'... UPDATED 10/28: They're fading fast...

Cons: software incompatible with Axxess AWSC-1 SWC module UPDATED 10/28: Doesn't fully kill remote power out; doesn't work with Axxess SWC, and generally made life miserable...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a fantastic stereo loaded with features, especially at this price point. I love the bluetooth audio streaming and the integrated Pandora app. Bluetooth paired with my phone with no problems, phone calls are nice and clear, installation was a snap. Yes, it can be difficult to touch exactly where you want (thus the 4 star ease of use), but overall it's a great unit.

Pros: Price, design, build quality, audio quality, ease of installation

Cons: It can be a little difficult to touch the correct area of the screen while driving, especially on the radio tuner.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit delivers good sound. The user interface for fade/balance of speakers is cool and nice. But otherwise, the themes and user interface are subpar. It does not use all the area in the screen properly. Switching to other mode .. requires you to drop down the list and then pick. Should have been tabs at the top/bottom.

Pros: Touch screen/mp3 player/bluetooth .. an nice upgrade from stock to get an old car into the new age.

Cons: The brackets provided by Crutchfield were flimsy plastic compared to metal factory units. Too many options to purchase separately, adding to installation complexity and cost. Steering wheel control should be standard by now(2013). Same goes for Android/ipad compatibility thru bluetooth. Should be able to see the phone screen on the unit and operate directly without touching the phone.

Great head unit in Toyota Sienna minivan

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit into a 2006 Toyota Sienna in order to get Bluetooth functionality and a screen for a backup camera. It is very easy to set up, and it looks great in the dash. The lighting options let it keep a very factory look and match the gauges perfectly. Installation was very easy, and both the Bluetooth call quality and music streaming are great. The screen is definitely high quality enough for the backup camera to be very useable. I also like the USB function. The USB is rear only, but they include a cable which I ran down to one of the small storage cubbies in the console. I just have a thumb drive with a ton of music on it, and it is very easy to search through the files by artist or album.

Pros: Bluetooth quality, ease of use, USB port

Cons: Touch screen shows fingerprints pretty badly

I have been a Pioneer fan for a long time, and this unit does not disappoint!!! The sound quality is excellent and the bluetooth is flawless. The only gripe I have is that there is quite a bit of glare on the screen during the day if the sun is in the right spot. Other than that, this is and excellent purchase.

Pros: Sound quality, ease of use, DVD video quality

    Cons: Glare

Nice, but wasn't quite right for me

msg from virginia beach on 9/29/2013

This is a really nice head unit, but I found that it wasn't quite the right fit for me. I found some surprisingly unexpected and profound drawbacks. 1. It's difficult to see the screen during the day in sunny conditions due to reflection. You can adjust the brightness and this helps some, but it's more the effect of the sun lighting up objects in the surrounding environment - like your hand when you go to make an adj - makes it difficult to see and use. 2. I found it difficult to make on the fly adjustments while driving (I know, I know). With touch control, you have to be pretty accurate. Favorites is a nice, helpful feat., however bouncing around on the road makes it diff to make EQ adjustments with the way it's set up to work where you have to touch the exact point you want it set. Bass/Mid/Treble option would be nice. I finally figured that I could plant my other fingers on the edge of the receiver to steady my hand some, but personally I've found that I prefer the knob/dial method. Vol control, too. Bluetooth connect works flawlessly. (anyone else notice lack of body even w/high qual data?) Lights don't dim? Only display? (maybe shop error) HPF filter - kinda works, but inaccurate? Display is kinda cheesy for various reasons. I realize this is personal pref, but would be nice to be able to have full control over what is displayed on the screen in various modes. would not buy again or recommend to others unless these issues don't matter to you. just my .02

    Pros: nice technology, looks cool

Cons: difficult to see display in sunny conditions. difficult to control while driving; basic remote, lacking features + ergo comfort

However, from what I understand, most of the aftermarket head units are this way. Touch screen buttons are a little small for my liking as well. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of research on receivers and bought this one based on the ability to display maps from my IPhone. This requires the use of App Radio and the required cable. See my review of the cable to get a better understanding of why it is not ideal. APP RADIO is not seamless, not well integrated and cumbersome to use. Once you select to go to APP Radio the other functions of the receiver are difficult to use. Aside from that aspect the receiver is very easy to use. As far as sound quality, ease of use and the ability to connect via USB to control Pandora make this a great purchase. Bluetooth works very well.

Pros: Customization of screen colors Favorites on menu selection makes it easy to get to adjustments you make all the time EQ function works very well Large Drop down list to select input function works very well while driving. It is clean and easy to see.

Cons: Sub output limits output above 125hz - Ideally this could be turned completely off so the Amp could control the crossover point. There should be a bypass or an off. APP RADIO IS HORRIBLE. Disregard every function that utilizes this feature. It is slow, antiquated, and not what an iPhone user would expect. Mic supplied for hands free calling is very low quality. I am looking to replace this as it is currently not usable and people cannot understand me.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed in a 08 Scion XB, easy installation and great features. AS with any new piece of equipment you have to learn about the features and setting of the unit. Blue tooth works great for streaming music, Pandora and I especially like the hands free use of my cell phone operating through the system. Links up great with my iPhone and all features of the phone are on the deck for contacts, voicemail and calls incoming and outgoing. After dialing in the sound with the easy to use equalizer I found the quality to be great for a unit at this price point and not running subs and using stock speakers. My only issue is that the AM signal does not get any reception and I live and travel in San Diego and Los Angeles so I should be able to receive a strong AM signal and I get nothing. I called Crutchfield and the tech told me "Well, some head units just don't get a good AM signal". Are you kidding me? That is the tech support...? I have installed many stereo's and I get a strong FM signal so I know the connections are all correct and I double checked all connections in the harness and unit feed and 100%. I contacted Pioneer and they passed me on to 2 different people and then was on hold for 20 minutes before I gave up. So I have this great unit an no AM radio that I like to listen to for business and finance talk radio.

Pros: Great features, USB, Bluetooth, custom sound settings, equalization and personalization of display

This is the worst Pioneer I have ever owned. I have been using them for years in my cars. This was a swing and a huge miss. The sound quality was so bad I put my stock radio back in and it sounded so much better, the screen feels really cheep, the EQ is the most complicated thing to use add in the cheep touch screen and you will never get your values set. If if had my IPhone plugged in if a call came in it would forget that the phone was attached after the call ended and I would have to unplug and replug the phone in. I would stay away from this head unit. Only good thing I have to say about it was the sound quality of the bluetooth on the other end was great, no one complained about how I sounded when I was on a call with them.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is a great entry level DVD receiver from Pioneer, easy to use and sounds great. I recently installed it in a Subaru Outback w/the Harman Kardon sound system which already sounded good, but lacked some connectivity options I was looking for (USB ans bluetooth). Now the stock radio had sat radio already installed and this pioneer does not have provisions for it but for me it was not an issue since I use Pandora and do not care for Sirius XM anyway for me it was not an issue, just something to keep in mind if you do like Sirius. Installation was pretty straight forward except for a minor deviation due to manual A/C controls in my Subaru, and grounding out the parking brake wire does not bypass the need to hook it into the parking brake switch for video playback. Sound playback is excellent and so is video playback. Plenty of options for connectivity, I removed the factory aux plug in the armrest of my Subaru and installed a PAC USB Extension Cable in its place, purchased w/the radio separately. Now my I-pod just stays in my armrest w/1 cable and doesn't need a separate charger. I-pod can be controlled thru the head unit, no need to be in and out of the armrest. Pandora streams nicely thru my Android phone. Only problem I have noticed is connection glitch between bluetooth and head unit on start up, if radio is left in Pandora selection it will not automatically start back up in Pandora due to time required for the bluetooth device to reconnect on start up.

Pros: Great sound, Great video playback. Easy to use and great connectivity.

Cons: Bluetooth connection slow to connect on start up, but once connected works flawlessly. No Sirius XM connection (if you are looking for that).

This receiver is just simply great, all the features that are needed work excellent. Bluetooth syncs easily with my galaxy s3 and brings all my contacts and call Log to the touch screen that is ultra responsive. The Pandora function works great with album art and Google music can be controlled from the receiver and remote. Audio is a kick in the mouth also. This is the best unit i have ever owned

Pros: Bluetooth, Pandora, quality screen and touch screen responsiveness

Cons: Needed more pre-set audio eq settings

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit looks good and sounds good. DVD playback is good. Controlling the iPod via the stereo is slow - you can't just quickly click 'next' (or prev) to skip to the next song; you have to wait a couple of seconds at each song. I have yet to get the stereo to control iPhone apps when an IPhone is connected. My iPhone kept locking up and the stereo would display an error. Also, MotionGPX is listed as on of the apps that you can control via the stereo, what they don't tell you is that MotionX charges you to allow that to happen.

Pros: Looks good, sounds good, installs easily, can configure illumination, plays/controls iPod, streams audio from iPhone, cell phone functions thru the unit

Cons: iPod control is slow, app control is buggy

    Enjoy the Unit!!!

Exactly What I Was Looking For

    2009 Scion tC
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking to replace the stock head unit in my '09 tC, which had only high and low equalizer settings. My main goals with this head unit were to have Bluetooth integration and a better equalizer, the AppRadio feature was considered a bonus since I have an iPhone 4s. Music quality is much improved and I greatly enjoy the touch screen, being able to see the Artist, Album, and Song title all in one screen. Bluetooth streaming works great, you get all the information sans Album art. You can change songs but if you want to change Artist, playlist, etc you have to do this from the phone when using bluetooth. I've used AppRadio a couple times to run Waze navigation from my phone. This has generally worked well, however one time driving home the screen locked and would not allow me to view anything until I stopped and applied the E-brake. This has only happened once so far and I've been unable to determine what caused it. Also, I have not yet figured out how to exit the App Mode without unplugging my phone or shutting down the head unit and restarting. Overall, I got what I was expecting from this head unit with a few additional bells and whistles. While it has some flaws, it is a vast improvement from my stock HU and well worth the price!

Pros: Bluetooth calling/streaming. iPhone integration. 8-band equalizer. Responsive touchscreen.

Cons: Some features require you to pull, release, and pull the e-brake to enable them. Screen is completely non-visible in direct sunlight, no anti-glare whatsoever.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this system as a replacement for the base factory stereo in my 370Z, and it is a fantastic upgrade. Ease of use is at the top of the list. I have an HTC Rezound and it quickly connected to my phone through Bluetooth and I had access to my phone's MP3s and Pandora. The Pandora option is great since it is much more reasonably priced for the full service than satellite radio. I selected this lower price option in the current line of Pioneer DVD receivers because I did not want/need XM, navigation, and HD radio. I went with a pair of component speakers and no amp with this unit. The power from the system is more than sufficient in my Z. It is a small cabin and the sound level and clarity are all I need. I installed a backup camera and the screen display is bright with good resolution. I also added the Axxess module and have full function of my steering wheel controls for the unit.

Pros: Ease of use and installation. Screen and illumination options. Pandora connectivity.

Cons: Boot and Bluetooth connectivity time. Takes a bit of time between starting the car and everything ready and fully connected, though it is less than a minute.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit on my 2004 Silverado w/ bose. Excellent sound quality and quite pleased with ease of use. The bluetooth connectivity for the phone works well and is super simple to set up, and streaming music works just as well. The USB connection works just as well. To answer the ever nagging integration questions, I am using an iPhone 4 on iOS 6.1 and it works flawlessly with the bluetooth and all aspects of integration, no worries here on this head unit. The appradio thing isn't adding any value for me at this point. I will have to updatet this review after I attempt any of the video features or iphone navigation. So far itunes, bluetooth calling, pandora, USB sourced music, all work perfectly.

Pros: Price, ease of use and integration, sound quality.

Cons: Appradio and lights do not work with dimmer on my vehicle, this is acknowledged in both the Crux module and head unit for this application.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Is a great head unit. Sounds much better than the factory unit in my Chevy Traverse. Great value for the price. The reason I have marked it down on 'Ease of Use' is that the onscreen buttons are a bit small and sometimes spaced too close together. On a phone this is not a problem, but when you are trying to drive at the same time, making choices with small buttons is dangerous. I'd like to see a software upgrade from pioneer that addresses the button size. Otherwise the unit is fantastic. Sound Quality is great. Integration with my iPhone (4) is great. Video Playback is a cool feature of somewhat gimmicky unless you have a rear seat video screen. I have not had much luck with Pioneers iPhone 'App Radio' apps. but I knew these were problematic before I bought the unit. overall I am very happy with it Great price, great sound and great features. If you do not use iPod/iPhone your mileage may vary on 'Ease of Use' ..

Pros: Great iPhone integration. Fantastics Sound. Plenty of power for my Polk speakers in the doors. Can get loud without distortion.

    Cons: Tiny onscreen buttons.

NIce Product, easy to use. Lengthy installation time (but ultimately worth it). Required quite a bit of phone support from Crutchfield - but the support was TOP NOTCH!! Quick response on car startup.

Pros: Bluetooth phone (Blackberry Torch 9850), Rear View Camera Option, iPod Connection

Cons: LIMITED steering wheel controls (unable to program preset up and preset down for stereo channels). Could have better voice commands for bluetooth phone connection - mainly a voice command to answer or ignore incoming calls and the transfer of personalized ring tones for incoming calls. Would LOVE to have SPEED CONTROLLED VOLUME. Also bezel does not fit perfectly, a little disappointing. Radio reception is NOT as good as factory, but OK.

EasyInAL from Mobile, AL on 1/17/2013

See my initial review below. For ANDROID users - on your phone, go into Pandora -> Settings - Advanced -> and check BLUETOOTH under BLUETOOTH FOR AUTOMOTIVE. Allowing this and selecting PANDORA on your x2500bt will allow album art and your stations (viewed by hitting the magnify glass) to appear on your x2500bt. If you turn this off, you can only use BLUETOOTH audio to send music to the unit. Unsure why album and mp3 tag info doesn't get transferred when using BlueTooth audio. Maybe BlueTooth protocol doesn't allow? It works fine with Pandora. Still unable to use Pioneer's AppRadio. Downloaded it, no way can I get it to connect to my unit. I am using an HTC EVO 4G LTE (One X variant). Tempted to send this back and get an Android 4.0 based DVD/Nav/WiFi head unit. Very frustrating. Anyone try ARLiberator? Doubt would work at all, but thought would have better chance... but it uses MHL -> HDMI for AppRadio 2 When I plug my phone in via USB, I get "incompatible device". Can't even use the storage on the phone to play music on the unit. DVD's and videos from USB play very very nice. Quite awesomely. Just make sure FAT 12, 16 or 32. Can't be NTFS or exFAT. Have to hit the MEDIA button to switch between Music, Videos and Photos. iPod control is very nice. Plug into the USB and full control on the unit, album art, etc. Everything as you would expect and want. Remote is nice. Wish it had more functionality during other modes.

    MikeH. from Illinois on 1/14/2013

This head unit fit perfectly in my car, no modding or cutting. Has a stock look, clear LCD screen, very responsive touch control and intuitive design. Bluetooth audio sounds perfect, no pops or hisses from the wireless connection. I'd give this stereo a 5 star but I have an android phone (SIII). It doesn't seem like any makers want to support android unless you're willing to drop some serious coin for a system, probably more than you had in mind. iPhone users will love the bluetooth pandora control, seeing album art and time skipping (all things the android can't show). You can still see track info for android phones, so not a total deal killer. Phone book and call logs will download for iOS or android. For the price, and sacrificing some control for android, this stereo is unbeatable.

Pros: Easy to use Looks great installed Very responsive touch screen Bluetooth call and audio

    Cons: No android love.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All the parts and instructions provided by Crutchfield worked perfectly. The Pioneer Head Unit is excellent. It looks like a factory installation with the supplied bezel. It was effortless to pair via bluetooth with my Iphone 4s. In addition to making phone calls, you can also access your Iphone music library and the music titles are displayed on screen. I love the fact there are no wires hanging from the front of the unit since I'm using the rear Aux port for my Sirius radio. The onscreen navigation is pretty intuitive. This was my first head unit replacement, and it was pretty easy. I did need to call Crutchfield support to ask what to do with a blue wire attached to the antenna wiring harness. I couldn't find instructions anywhere in the supplied documentation for that wire. I highly recommend this head unit. I plan to install a backup camera at some point in the future.

    2004 Buick Rainier
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this model after researching for a few weeks. I installed it myself with the Crux kit for my 2004 Buick Rainier (Chevy Trailblazer). I just finished the installation two days ago, so this review is based on that and two days of use. Everything works great, with the exception of items that require the parking brake to be engaged. I still have ti purchase a bypass for that since I don't feel like trying to find the parking brake switch in my vehicle. One KEY thing to note for those of you with an iPhone 5 or a device with iOS6. ALL Bluetooth functions DO work without issue. I can stream audio and it DOES show the metadata on screen. I use the Spotify app and have tried Pandora as well (not using the separate Pandora app on the Pioneer), and they both show full song, artist, and album info. The calls over Bluetooth work great as well, and the voice activated calling works perfectly with Siri. I have not yet tested the DVD MP3 playback yet, but I'm sure that will not be an issue. I was disappointed that there is not a manual dimmer level function on the Pioneer unit itself. I thought I read in the description that it had one. I will be adding a backup camera and the parking brake override in the next month or two, and will update the review once those are in place. The main point of this review was to let others know the Bluetooth stuff works great since it is not clear on the site, and even Crutchfield support was not 100% positive about the metadata.

Pros: Nice interface Good graphics Good sound ans power output

Cons: A little dim when headlights are on and it is dusk. I wish it had an override dimmer setting.

    Amazing Device

Stang08 from Baltimore, MD on 1/7/2013

This was my first install of a head unit and it was very straight forward. Some confusion on what wires to connect but a 5 minute call with crutchfield cleared that up very quickly. This unit is amazing. Its fast, screen has great colors, brightness, etc. I love having the bluetooth connectivity with my phone for music and phone calls. Makes driving my manual a lot easier when talking on the phone. I also love the new support for Android!!!! This is huge because android is steadily becoming the standard and auto makers, and companies of head units like Pioneer are starting to take note.

Pros: Android, Android, Android support, Great sound, plenty of features very easy to use bluetooth music streaming/pandora from android phone fast

Cons: Really wish I could use my zune Need more support for android with AppRadio2( I have arguably the most popular android phone, Samsung GS3 but no support for AppRadio2).

    Pioneer AVH-X2500BT

TilS from Margate, FL on 1/5/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just did a review on the 2400BT(from Crutchfield) which I gave to my daughter who is really enjoying it. I got the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT because I rather have the connections on the rear which I routed to the center console using the included USB extension and an AUX extension I bought. Installation on my Avalon was a breeze, however, I had to add a separate wire to the Original factory harness for the dimming function as the included wire connector/adapter did not have it. This unit performs exactly as the 2400BT with the same audio options etc. It does include Mix trax and has more user friendly equalizer settings. Display is 6.1" and home buttons are a little smaller. The clock does not include the day as in the 2400BT. (not a Problem) BlueTooth sync works as soon as I enter the car with my Phone and the reception is quite good. FM Stations are plentiful in my area and I do see RDS information as available. I am quite happy that I got the pioneers as they made the factory speaker system on the Avalon (JBL 7 speaker Premium Sound System) sound much better than the original Head Unit. Now I can enjoy all formats of my music, most of which is on USB's. I have a 16G USB stick filled with mp3's and this unit loads it up almost in an instant. Faster than the 2400BT. Overall, I like both of the units and think that you'll not go wrong with either, depending on your needs. Anyway, I perfer the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT due to the "Rear Inputs" Crutchfield has the best Staff. Thanks.

Pros: Rear Inputs, simple equalizer controls, larger display and extremely good sound. Most will not need a subwoofer. BlueTooth is flawless so far. Good FM reception. Fits and looks great in my Avalon with included Dash kit. Dvd's, CD's, MP3 CD's all play without problems. Divx Movies also plays. Appears to be built solid. Crutchfield Team is the BEST.

Cons: Display is not bright enough in daylight. Unit came with dimmer wire but the included harness did not have this wire. Made my own connection to the Factory harness and this function now works.

Bought this for my 4th gen ram. Had to cut the top subdash for this to fit (very common mod). I also had to trim the bottom of the subdash to for the unit to tilt up enough to fit the dash surround. I love the unit and it pairs perfectly with my iPhone. The unit is very easy to use and the Bluetooth hands free is very clear and crisp on both ends. The only thing I overlook was satellite radio, but I haven't missed that with the ability strem music via Bluetooth from the phone. I used the PAC interface which was a breeze to install. I'm 100% pleased with this unit

Pros: Easy to use. Bluetooth connected perfectly and the hands free function sounds clean and clear. Easy install.

Cons: Not satellite radio ready. I would like there to be a search function on the unit when steaming music via Bluetooth. You only have that option when hooked up via USB.

    Not Really Android Ready

EasyInAL from Mobile AL on 12/27/2012

Self install on a '06 4Runner. RADIO: Picked up FM and AM no problems. Sounded great. ANDROID APP COMPATIBILITY: Has an "Android" on the side of the box. The Pioneer web site lists a lot of apps that are "compatible". I couldn't get a single one to work (where data on phone appeared/interfaced with the head) w/ my HTC EVO 4G LTE with Android 4.1.1 - which COULD be the problem. The Pioneer AppRadio app may only be compatible with an older version of the Android OS. PANDORA: I was able to change the settings on the x2500BT to have Pandora work via Bluetooth vice the cable default. Album art streams down to my phone & over to the radio via Bluetooth, sounded wonderful. Was able to control Pandora via the x2500BT. BLUETOOTH AUDIO: Bluetooth audio quality is incredible. Able to stream music stored on my phone, streaming from Google Music, and just about any other audio comes across no problem. HANDS FREE CALLING: Unable to report. I forgot to hook the mic up before putting the car back together. DVD: Loaded up Three Amigos & looked fine. I need a better quality movie to test. On any TV, that particular DVD/Movie looks crummy. USB: Tried 2 different thumb drives w/multiple DivX, possibly Xvid, vids on it. Unit only recognized & played 1 movie on each drive. Need to do more testing. Didnt try pix/mp3s. TOUCH SCREEN: Seems ok. Need to see if there is a way to calibrate. I intend to use HDMI->RCA to mirror my EVO LTE to unit via HTC Media Link HD - like AllShare dongle.

Pros: Build, Sound Quality, Picture Quality, Bluetooth, DVD/USB Video etc.

Cons: No actual Android interoperability; Pioneer Android App is horrible.

I have the Iphone 4 with ios 6.0.1 on my phone and the apps work with my Pioneer advanced app mode. I use Motionx and a few other apps and it works fine. Try checking your cable because it may be defective if your review is really honest. Advacned app mode works on my pioneer. Some of the older models had a problem but the new ones seem fine. The sound quality on this is also really incredible. I thought I would need to change my stock speakers but this really made such a huge difference I decided not to.

    Awesome Value!

BigT from Hattiesburg, MS on 12/24/2012

Radio works awesome. Had it installed in a 2000 Honda Crv and it turned out much better than I had hoped. I had the guys at tint world do the actual install, beware that Pioneer does not include a trim ring with the radio. Luckily the guys at Tint world were creative and stole a trim ring from another radio so that I was able to have a clean looking install. Radio sounds great, bluetooth audio and calling is perfect, I bought a knockoff app mode cable off ebay and it works fine with my iphone 4s running ios6. I'm now debating on pulling out the garbage factory nav unit from my 2008 Tundra.

Pros: Sound Quality, Bluetooth audio, customizable colors

Cons: No trim piece to cover gaps around radio, could be alittle brighter, overall it's great!

    Reviews of the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT

LS from Tallahassee, FL on 12/23/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Useability is a key to operating a radio especially when driving. The radio works great. Bluetooth works great for Iphone songs and phone use. CD works great. The Apradio is not user friendly relative to Apps. It is obtuse to use. Using the provided Itunes Apps the system fails to provide either ease of operation or useful instructions on how to get around the endlessly repetitive useless warnings. If the App icon is pressed a series of warnings are issued to let the driver know the obvious working "inside the car" can be a safety issue. Unfortunantly, to get to the App from this point on is impossible. So all the Apps I've paid for are unusable and knowing it could be useful but is not is very frustrating. UPDATED 2/22/13: This is my second review. My first was about Dec 23, 2012 and I was frustrated. I attempted to reinstall the system a few days ago and found the connection to the brake line switch had failed. I reconnected using different connector and the entire app system came online. Wow the map app on the radio now works! So, in the process of reevaluting, the radio is a completly different unit with functioning apps. I love it!

Pros: Crutchfield's instructions are easy to understand and use. The dash replacement cover by Scosche was a good fit and the color matches well. The other wiring harness worked well.

Cons: After App installation on the Iphone (easy) sufficient documentation is not provided to use the Apps with the radio by any source that I can find. I'd think that Crutchfield should withdraw this radio from their inventory until the interface between the radio and the Iphone is fully functioning. I view this as a Pioneer Inc. issue not a Crutchfield issue.

    2011 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would love to give this unit a five star review. I was looking for a few things in my car stereo - hands-free calling; play music via Bluetooth and/or iPod cable; and a DVD player. If this was all that this head unit promised, it would get five stars. BUT, it does NOT deliver on the AppRadio. Pioneer promises that the device will "launch and control compatible iPhone apps from the face of your receiver, putting a variety of music, navigation, social media, and other apps at your command." As everyone knows by now, Pioneer has NOT addressed the fact that their devices are INCOMPATIBLE with iPhone using iOS6 for this important selling point. Aside from that, I love the user interface with this unit. Nice big display words when switching from radio/phone/aux/cd(or dvd). Just forget using AppRadio mode (Pandora, etc.) from your iPhone. It's frustrating that with a unit at this price I can't interact directly with apps, as advertised. I talked to Crutchfield, who were great (as usual), but their hands are tied. I called Pioneer, and after a half hour wait (on hold), I was curtly told that Pioneer is aware of this problem, and that a firmware update MIGHT fix it, at a later date. I asked when that date would be, and the guy was evasive to the point of being rude. Between Apple and Pioneer, I'm ticked. Switching to Android might address this - to be continued. PS: don't buy the Pioneer CD-IU201S cable - worthless - won't even work as an iPod connector or charger. I'm returning it!

Pros: User interface is easy with intuitive touchscreen controls; Bluetooth works great; microphone quality is good; DVD playback quality is good; overall sound quality great. Did I mention that Bluetooth is great? If it weren't for that, I'd be returning this unit!

Cons: AppRadio mode and streaming internet radio from iPhone via cable? Fuhgedaboutit! Until Pioneer addresses the firmware update for iOS6, anyway.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Preordered the Pioneer AVH-2500 after looking at the specs and the positive reviews of the Pioneer AVH-2400. This unit had app radio also. My phone is an android with an app that I can use as a hotspot for an iPod. I had an old iPod touch 4th gen that I use with the radio. I stream Pandora on the iPod and I get album art and song info on the head units touch screen. Pulls the music I have stored on the iPod. had to order the special cable to transfer data from the ipod to the pioner. Bluetooth works great and clear sound with this unit. Very cool looking screen. Easy operation. I have a backup camera, works great. This is for a Jeep Wrangler and the base unit I had with it was horrible. Already replaced the speakers with Kickers. Why anyone would order a vehicle with the top of the line factory radio rather than install an aftermarket that sounds better and is cheaper is beyond me. This is my first radio installation in probably 20 years. Old days was find a hot wire and a place to ground the radio. The install was made easier with the PAC harness Crutchfield sold me to attach to the Jeeps electronic system.

Pros: Everything I tried so far works seamlessly with the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT. No wires hanging out of the front of the unit. Very clean looking. Sound quality is fantastic.

Cons: Need better apps for the app radio function, the only one I use now is Pandora.

    Great Reciever

Vector Productions from Las Vegas, NV on 11/21/2012

I've been tracking this head unit since it was announced, and saw on a forum post the release date was 11/19, as Crutchfield still shows it as pre-order I called around to a local car stereo place and found that they had received their shipment and were willing to put one in 2008 Hyundai Tiburon this morning, had the unit professionally installed and wow, the sound quality off of mp3's are so much better than the stock Kenwood EZ500 it replaced. My work iphone paired almost instantly and the quality of the Bluetooth audio is phenomenal.

Pros: Pioneers great sound, mixtrax, super sexy.

Cons: Only complaint so far is the screen is too dim depending on the angle the sun is hitting it at and there does not seem to be a way to change the contrast or brightness of the unit.

6.1" TFT LCD Touchscreen Color Display: The AVH-X2500BT features a 6.1" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 widescreen touchscreen display. The resolution of the display is 800 x 480 (RGB), for a total of 1,152,000 pixels. The touchscreen display allows you to control this unit and a connected component such as an iPod/iPhone, or USB mass storage class device. Menus appear on screen for making function choices, audio adjustments, and setting up the system. The unit has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier, because there is no panel to slide or fold-down. The fixed touchscreen display is not removable.

Multilingual Display: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT offers English, Chinese, French, Portuguese, and Spanish text.

Video Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for each source and the optional rear view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast), color (adjusts color saturation), hue (adjusts the tone of color), and temperature (adjust the color temperature).

Widescreen Modes: You can choose from the following widescreen modes when playing back video:

    • Full: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the horizontal direction only, enabling you to enjoy a 4:3 picture without any omissions.
    • Zoom: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the same proportion both vertically and horizontally; ideal for a 16:9 screen.
    • Normal: A 4:3 picture is displayed as it is.

On Screen Display Color & Background Adjustment: The color of the on-screen display can be set to red, amber, green, blue or white. The background can be set to one of four preset still images, a moving image, a stored JPEG image, or turned Off.

Front-Panel Control w/ Custom Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the left edge of the screen. The color of the button illumination can be set to red, amber, green, blue, white, or scan (constantly cycling through the color spectrum). You can also create a custom color to match your vehicle's interior lighting (112 colors to choose from).

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be parked with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display "Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited", if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double -DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in  your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 3.0 (powered by Parrot), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

SPP (Secure Simple Pairing): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the AVH-X2500BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be registered to this head unit. Only one device can be used at a time. Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT.

Hands-Free Communication: The AVH-X2500BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/HSP/OPP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The AVH-X2500BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the AVH-X2500BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Entering a Phone Number: You can make a call by entering the phone number using the head unit's on-screen keypad (0-9, *, #, +, C).
    • Speed (Preset) Dialing: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for the phone number by alphabet search mode.
    • Call Log: The 80 most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Control: If your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone is equipped with the voice control feature, you can use voice commands to make calls.
Note: Advanced phone operations that require attention, such as dialing numbers on the monitor or adjusting Bluetooth settings, are prohibited while driving. The vehicle's parking brake must be engaged to access these functions.

External Microphone: During your wireless phone call, you can talk into the head unit's included external microphone, and listen to the other party through the vehicle's speaker system. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone. The external microphone must be installed for Bluetooth hands-free communication.

Wireless Audio Streaming (with Meta Data Display): The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The AVH-X2500BT will be able to control your stored music's basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast-Forward/Reverse, and Repeat/Random. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name, Song title, and Album Art. The AVH-X2500BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (metadata display and control will depend on music app). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Parental Lock: This unit features an 8-level Parental Lock system protected by a user-selected 4-digit password to prevent certain DVD's from being played back on the AVH-X2500BT.

Off Insert/Eject: A disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum disc playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 30-degrees.

    Audio Section

24-Bit/96kHz DAC: For superb quality audio playback from DVDs, CDs, and flash media, the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT is equipped with a 24-bit/96kHz digital-to-analog converter.

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: This receiver is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high power output. The amplifier is strong enough to power small subwoofers to moderate volume levels in compact cars and pickups. For higher volume levels from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the preamp outputs.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the AVH-X2500BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 8-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 8-band graphic equalizer (40Hz, 80Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz, and10kHz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into your compatible Pioneer A/V receiver's rear-panel AUX 3.5mm input. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

Sonic Center Control: Sound that is suited for the listening position can easily be created with this function. You can adjust sound more toward the listening position left (7) to right (7).

Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.

Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT features three pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Crossovers: The AVH-X2500BT employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Subwoofer Controls: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    AV Connections

Dual AV Inputs: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT has dual AV inputs to connect two external audio/video sources. The head unit has a rear-panel 3.5mm minijack AV input for connecting a portable audio/video device. There is also a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA AV input for connecting a video component such as a mobile TV tuner or game console. The rear-panel 3.5mm minijack input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod/iPhone (using the proprietary Pioneer cable).

Video Output: The AVH-X2500BT features a rear-panel composite video output that allows you to connect an external display to the unit. You can play back the same video source (except iPhone 5) which is being played on the head unit. You can select the unit to output a 16:9, Letter-Box or Pan-Scan aspect ratio to match your external display's screen size.

Rear View Camera: The AVH-X2500BT is equipped with a composite video Rear View Camera input. The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image (Rear View Camera input jack) when an optional rear camera (130NDBC6, sold separately) is installed. When the transmission is in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (the violet/white wire in the AVH-X2500BT's harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.9 seconds. Pioneer recommends using a camera with a mirror image (reversed) output. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

Navigation Ready: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT allows you to connect the Pioneer AVIC-U250 add-on navigation unit (130AVIC250, sold separately) through its RGB Input. This versatile hideaway unit allows you to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. Get to your destination by inputting an address or search through the POI library while enjoying whatever source is currently playing.

Note: If you are already using the head unit's RGB input to access AppRadio Mode from your iPhone, then you cannot connect this add-on navigation module (or vise-versa).

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The Pioneer AVH-X2500BT includes an IR remote control (CXE5116) for wireless operation of the multimedia head unit and your connected devices. There are no controls to answer/end or dial call from your Bluetooth-enabled phone.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). It will connect via Bluetooth with Android allowing you to use audio and Pandora and make calls, but I have had trouble with it not allowing me into the Bluetooth menu so I am unable to do basic functions like remove a phone that's been previously paired [ PATRICIA  Dec 17, 2013 ]
I use my Samsung galaxy s2 with this receiver. The Bluetooth works well and all calls go through the trucks speakers. You can listen to music stored on your phone through Bluetooth or the aux input ( I prefer aux input). I think this receiver works quite well with Android. I am not sure what you mean by all the capabilities of the Iphone, since I don't have one, but this does everything I want it to do. [ JOSH  Dec 17, 2013 ]
Yes both work just fine as I use my system with both devices. [ KATIE  Dec 17, 2013 ]
We have an HTC One, and a Samsung S4 phone. Both phones will hook up to the radio with bluetooth for phone calls and streaming music. The Pandora App on the radio works with the samsung, but seems to work sometimes with the HTC phone. From what I understand to use the Pioneer android app on the phone with the radio, a special cable is needed. [ DOUGLASS J  Dec 17, 2013 ]
I had an iPhone 4 and recently switched to an HTC One. My iPhone would play music as soon as it was connected and now it does sometimes, but I usually have to open up my music on my phone and play it from that. I think that it could be just this phone. Because I've had some other issues now and again. But my iPhone worked seamlessly and now it's not as easy. But it does work. [ LINDSAY  Dec 17, 2013 ]
This receiver is not Satellite radio ready. [ Jeff  Dec 16, 2013 ]  Staff
Yes, you absolutely can hook up a backup camera. There is a video input for it in the back of the head unit. You will need to supply power to the camera and also work the emergency brake video/enable, but those things are explained in the directions and on youtube. [ PAUL F  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    Yes you can. [ EDWIN L  Dec 05, 2013 ]
Yes you can. The unit does provide a video input. [ CHRIS  Dec 05, 2013 ]
Yes. You can hook up bit be sure n go to cam settings and Change pos or neg on stereo depending on what u need [ RAMON  Dec 05, 2013 ]
We do not have a back seat dvd player, so I cannot speak to this question. [ MEREDITH  Dec 09, 2013 ]
    No [ HUMBERTO  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    yes [ JAMES M  Dec 05, 2013 ]
Not sure. But the player is great for its price. [ JONATHAN  Dec 05, 2013 ]
Nope, if you put a DVD in, it will only play the DVD. [ JUSTIN  Dec 05, 2013 ]
The only model that pioneer carries starting with AVH that can perform a dual zone audio/video is their AVH-X8500BHS model. [ KORY  Dec 04, 2013 ]
