Our take on the Pioneer DEH-X5800HD

Return of the radio

HD Radio

Radio strikes back with Pioneer's DEH-X5800HD CD receiver and its built-in HD Radio™ tuner. Stations that broadcast HD Radio programming offer the best sound you'll hear coming over the airwaves — FM that rivals CDs, and AM that's clear and static-free. And with thousands of stations broadcasting in HD Radio, you'll likely find participating stations in your area. This receiver also boasts the Emergency Alerts feature, offering more advanced messaging than regular radio during disasters and emergencies such as severe storms. (Need Bluetooth? Check out Pioneer's DEH-X6800BS CD receiver.)

For your smartphone

Pioneer DEH-X5800HD

HD Radio offers better sound and more programming choices.

The front-panel USB input allows you to connect your iPod® or iPhone®, then access your playlists with the Pioneer's controls. When your iPhone's connected, you'll also enjoy control over your favorite Pandora® stations from the receiver.

Previous Pioneer receivers let you access music files stored on many Android phones through USB. This model goes a step further with Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets you plug in compatible devices via USB and control music streaming apps like Pandora®. You'll enjoy excellent sound quality and you won't have to pick up the phone whenever you want to skip a track.

Download Pioneer's Advanced Remote Control App (ARC) to your iOS or Android device, plug in via USB, and you've got a smart remote control for your Pioneer in the palm of your hand. You'll use your touchscreen to access advanced functions like source selection, playback, music library browsing, music app selection, and much more.

Colors that dazzle

This Pioneer puts you in charge of the color wheel with a multi-color, dual-zone display. You can choose one color for the display and another for the buttons, so you'll find thousands of possible combinations. Pioneer's MIXTRAX syncs the audio from many of your sources, adding transitions between songs along with a light show that pulses and changes color with the beat of the music, so you can ramp up the show in your dash when you're in the mood.

Find your perfect soundscape

The built-in 5-band EQ combines with Pioneer's potent MOSFET amplifier to provide a big boost in sound quality over your factory radio. If you're putting together an audio system in your car, two pairs of preamp outputs make it easier to add external amplifiers or a powered sub.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Radio works great. I love the reception indicator, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to tell me if i'm tuned into an HD station, like on some stock car radios. I could only get the word "HD" to appear if i changed options, but it appeared on EVERY station. Was not compatible with my Droid Turbo android phone thru USB for some reason. Gave me an error 19 sometimes, and sometimes just generic "error" I read this was possibly a bad cable issue, so i will replace it and try again in the future.

Pros: +Shows Reception +Fast changing of stations

    Cons: -Possibly no HD indicator

I'm really happy with the sound of this player and the HD radio is pretty cool. I find it a little hard to navigate through the audio settings menu - it is fine sitting in the driveway adjusting the fader or balance but it takes a little more attention than I prefer for driving the car. I find the remote a little easier to use than the deck controls so maybe I'll velcro that to the steering wheel. I'm glad that the display lighting is customizable because I found some of the colors to be a bit glaring.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck has all the features that I personally need. The Scosche factory kit (hugely discounted if you purchase a head unit from Crutchfield ~$6) works well with this unit but is super tight. I had to force it in by slanting the unit and pushing it into the slot (the unit had the metal sleeve pre-installed) and the casing is made of plastic so I had to be meticulous and put the casing (behind dash adapter) after I placed the unit in the slot, then screwed them in (slightly bent). On the manual, it states to use the ground wire and attach it to the chassis of the car. I don't have a power drill & drill bit to drill a hole on to the car to ground both harness/unit ground wires. So I just used the factory ground from the harness temporarily until I get my hands on a power drill. The head unit works great and I have 4 Rockford Fosgate Prime r165x3 coaxials connected and sound pretty good with the MOSFET 14Wx4 amp that comes with the deck. Bass boost sounds pretty good as this car never had any bass from the cheap TAO speakers that came with the car. After one day of use, my speakers went out while playing music! I turned off the car and it still won't produce sound. The speakers make a popping sound when I turn the unit on or switch sources. After an hour or so with the car off, I turned the car back on, and the sound works again. I am thinking it is faulty because I have not yet grounded to the chassis.

Pros: Great value head unit! All features included are all that I needed.

Cons: None that I could think of.

This radio is an excellent value. It's too bad that HD radio isn't an option in all new OEM radios.

Pros: The radio has very good sensitivity and sound quality. The five band semi-parametric EQ allows for custom settings and awesome sound.

Cons: The display is difficult to read in bright sunlight and impossible to read when in the purple or dark blue mode. I had to change the display settings to always show in bright white. This radio only displays the RDS/RBDS PS field and cannot display the RT (Radio Text) field.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

CD players are going the way of LP's. Still, many of us have huge collections of music and have neither the time nor ability to transfer it to a different digital source. The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD effectively spans the various media choices by including a fine CD player with inputs to accept USB, AUX and IPOD sources. The 22 Watt/channel power delivers very clean sound. The attractive faceplate is removable and has one retro-style rotary multi-function knob that performs its many functions in an intuitive manner. Like most car audio units today, the buttons are too small and the markings certainly not readable; the price we pay for all those features and a large central display. If you never read manuals, good for you--this one won't help you. The manual does a poor job of explaining how to access the features. In fact, programming is best accomplished by pushing buttons to see what happens. The HD radio is great and reveals, for example, that my favorite classical music station has not one, but three different programs broadcast at once. Illumination colors are whatever you want. Installation in my Vue was not as straightforward as the instructions indicated. The factory has provided dedicated side braces that make for a very solid installation and one must modify the mounting sleeve to use these. It took longer to program the radio than it did to install. All in all, a fine, flexible, CD receiver that is a good choice for those who like to listen to AM and FM to

    Pros: Appearance, inputs, price

    Cons: inadequate programming instructions

Good sound quality at a good price. 64Gig USB memory stick makes the CD obsolete, but sometimes the CD could be handy.

Good Radio with a few Caveats

    2003 MINI Cooper
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very good radio for the price, but it has a few drawbacks. The supplied wiring adaptor does not interface with the orange-white wire to dim illumination when the vehicle lights are turned on. You can dim manually or set it by the time of day, but having auto dimming would be nice as the lights are too bright at night without dimming. The wiring interface labels were confusing with the result that I did not originally connect the blue(power antenna) and blue/white (remote control) wires because I did not understand their functions. A call subsequently cleared things up. The preset buttons are small and virtually impossible to see during the day. I put small pieces of bright tape on each so I could pick them out without fumbling around. Sound from the radio or USB port is great. I found setup to be awkward, but I got through it.

Pros: Price, good radio and USB sound quality, HD radio.

Cons: Small and difficult to see preset buttons, no auto dimming with supplied wiring interface, confusing identification of wires in wiring adapter.

Nice receiver - good value and easy installation

MDSWA from spokane, WA on 3/12/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this receiver to replace the factory stereo in my daughters 2001 Camry. The installation kit including dash adapter panel with pocket worked perfectly. Hardest part was putting the harness together on the kitchen table prior to installing. Instructions were good and the kit was complete. The receiver also worked perfectly with the supplied wiring harnesses except for one thing. The factor stereo had two antenna cables (large and small) but the receiver only had one jack. Plugged in the large cable and it seemed to work fine. Sound quality is pretty good but definitely was limited by worn out factory speakers. Will be buying new speakers soon. The front panel is attractive and the controls are relatively easy to use. My daughter took just minutes to learn how to use it. The aux jack and USB jacks are very handy but my daughter was unable to play music using her Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. I encouraged her to make a tech support call to figure it out but she ended up just using the mini RCA aux jack instead. The remote is pretty handy and the EQ works well. My daughter was surprised at how good the receiver sounded and was struck by how it highlighted the low sound quality of some of her downloaded music. After playing a demo CD with great sound she was thinking about upgrading her download library to better quality files. This is probably m fifth Pioneer receiver and all have been great.

Pros: Easy install. Solid value, easy interface, good sound, usable EQ, nice remote

Cons: A little more power would be nice but might not be necessary when I upgrade to more efficient speakers. Didn't work with a Galaxy S5. Should be able to solve that with a little research and maybe a tech support call.

    Good HD Reception

    2004 Ford Explorer
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start by saying I'm not an audiophile, nor was I setting up a separate amp or speaker. All I wanted was a radio for my 2004 Explorer that would play CD and had an aux port. The radio itself receives well, even though I'm in a poor reception area. Setting up the options is a pain though. I work with computers all day long, have no problems with my cell phone, have had at least 10 vehicles where I could puzzle out how the stereo worked without needing instructions. I needed instructions for this - and the instructions are not that good. Just for setting up the clock, I never got the "good to go" signal, so just had to push the aux button to exit. For the price though, I'm happy with it and it does what I need while delivering good sound, so just take the above as coming from a crabby old lady who was frustrated.

Pros: Solidly built, good value for the price

Cons: Needs instructions that are written in larger than 3 pt font and are a little more informative.

    Love It!!

    1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this unit! The menu is easy to use, the controls and buttons are laid out nicely. The HD radio works in sync with FM. The USB port is high voltage, and sturdily built. I love the LED colors. I was able to match my factory dash colors perfectly! The center display is a little dim on a sunny day, but that hasn't affected my enjoyment. The remote is also well planned and easy to use, with all of the functions you could want on a 15 button layout. The 5 band EQ and presets are also very nice, and better than typical.

Pros: Custom colors, HD radio, USB & Aux on FRONT, Data Disc formats supported, great sound, 5 band EQ

Cons: Center display is dim, dimmer than side trim.

    2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this Pioneer receiver in my '02 Avalanche and I am really pleased. The unit puts out great, clean and crisp sound. I have it setup with two Pioneer TS-A1675R 3way's in front and the factory speakers are still in the rear. The receiver unit looks really nice and gives the dash some great looks. I really like that you can adjust the many settings available on this unit. It's a little overwhelming at first, but I am getting used to it. The HD radio has already picked up about 3 or 4 new stations which I did not know existed in my area. The installation was fairly simple, with Crutchfield providing the instructions, dash mounting unit, wire harness and antenna adapter. Once I connected all of the wires between the unit's harness and the GM adapter harness, hooked up the antenna adapter and mounted the unit into the dash kit, it only took me a few minutes to install it into my Avalanche. Overall, I'm very pleased with the unit and with Crutchfield's service. Now am looking to replace the old factory rear speakers and I'll purchase them from Crutchfield.

Pros: Great, clear and crisp sound. Enjoy the multiple color schemes and choices you have on all of the various settings available on the unit.

Cons: Had a little trouble figuring out how to make sure that the receiver unit was properly fixed into the dash mounting unit. But, was able to do it right.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the third Pioneer car radio in the past two years and this one is the best for ease of use and improvements. The most notable is fixing the display lighting problem of the past year units. The sound from this radio is equal to better than any factory installed car radio I have heard. This one is so good that I am considering replacing my first unit. Installed in a 2010 CR-V

Pros: Ease of installation, Sound quality without power amps and bass add one, Remote control, Ipod and USB access

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought to replace factory system in 99 volvo v70. Wanted HD radio, usb and aux. This unit provided all that, have yet to use all the features, like mixtrax. Tried the android app, not the most user friendly. The tuner is better than factory at holding distant signals. The extras that Crutchfield includes and the low price make this an excellent value. Still had to splice the speaker wiring into included harness.

Pros: HD Radio(my favorite feature), usb and aux. The included wiring harness and install kit

Cons: As stated on just about every new head unit, cannot see display clearly on sunny day. Even after mounting as low as possible, all manufactures need to invest in non glare coatings for display screen

Awesome radio all around. I initially only ordered for the HD radio (which is completely worth it). The usb connection through android is somewhat good but wont fully tether because the app that pops up to install when you connect says isn't available. The other issue with usb on android is there is a random interference when your playing music from any app on your phone, and just enough not to use it. I'm hoping that when the app comes out there will be a way to fix that. The build quality is good on it and has a full file explorer when you use a flash drive which is really nice to have and makes using a flash drive a breeze.

Android Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel USB port. There are two types of modes to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.

    • AOA 2.0 (Stored Music & Music Apps): The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1+) to the DEH-X5800HD's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and select music apps from your Android device through the Pioneer receiver. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; you'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • MTP (Stored Music w/ Song/Artist Info): The DEH-X5800HD also supports MTP for playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your Android (OS 4.0+) device through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel USB port. In this mode, you get basic playback control (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), plus song/artist information on the receiver's LCD screen. During MTP connection, you cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.
Note: You will need to setup Android connectivity within the head unit's menu. Select "Memory" for MTP mode and "App Control" for AOA 2.0 mode.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Mobile Device Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected Android smartphone or Apple iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your Android device has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it). The receiver even offers a "USB Auto Switch" feature so when your device is connected via USB you have the option to choose whether the receiver uses the phone as a source, or just charges the device.

    HD + Pandora Radio

HD Radio: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

    • Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
    • Station Text + RDS: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. For analog FM stations, the Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as song/artist information when listening to compatible RDS FM stations.
    • Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
    • Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.
    • Emergency Alerts: Emergency Alerts work in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Alert Services to provide more advanced messaging during emergencies or disasters. Providing relevant local content, particularly in times of severe weather or other natural emergencies make HD Radio's Emergency Alerts feature an invaluable resource.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Pandora App: The free Pandora App lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer DEH-X5800HD using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Pioneer iPod connector cable (sold separately) or the connector cable that came with your iPhone. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS 7.0+) with the latest version of the Pandora Radio application from Apple's App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account. The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD will provide control over the Pandora music service and display Artist/Album/Song information.

    • Station List w/ Shuffle: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically. You can also listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations + Delete: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing. You can also delete a station from your Pandora station list.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

    Audio & DSP Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-X5800HD is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The power specifications for the DEH-X5800HD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4ch/2V Preouts: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD features two pair of 2.0-volt preouts. The unit's Rear/SW preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs. When the head unit's RW/SW preouts are configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-12/-24dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Equalizer: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source, while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -12dB or 24dB.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD CD receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The DEH-X5800HD features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Rear Speaker Setup: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPod/iPhone, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer DEH-X5800HD in-dash CD receiver features detachable face security. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 12 preset colors, customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Crutchfield asked
    Why did you buy this?

I wanted HD, CD, and digital as well as iPhone compatibility with a detachable face. Plus with Pioneer brand I know I'm getting a quality product. [ Hugh  Jul 20, 2016 ]
I see many great reviews on this head unit and seems to have all the features I need. Hopefully it works well with the speakers that I have, might pair it up with the Alpine KTP-445U when I get the extra money :) [ Daniel  Jul 16, 2016 ]
I was shopping for a head unit that would play MP3 files from either my phone or a flash drive. I also wanted a unit that had the ability to dim the display and that narrowed my choices down to either JVC or Pioneer. I went with Pioneer because of the HD radio. [ Jeffrey  Jun 06, 2016 ]
This CD receiver includes HD radio at a bargain price. HD radio is near CD quality, and sounds much better than either FM or XM/Sirius radio, with no subscription fees. [ DONALD  Jun 03, 2016 ]
I wanted an HD receiver with USB and AUX inputs. I have always purchased Pioneer products when possible. [ WILLIAM  May 10, 2016 ]
Advisor recommended as the closest current model to replace my old DEH-P4500MP which has finally died after 14 years of service. [ Robert  Apr 23, 2016 ]
Hd radio and features all at a good price. It doesn't appear to have the reputation for breaking down like kenwood HU's seem to. Power ratings are more honest at 14rms from what I understand those internal mosfet amps are all from the same manufacturers regardless of kenwood v pioneer v alpine and so pioneer's number being lower actually makes me like them more because it suggests they aren't out to fool you and perhaps have better people working for them. [ Christian  Apr 11, 2016 ]
Includes HD radio tuner and front auxiliary jack. [ Phillip  Feb 26, 2016 ]
This was the best balance of price, features (HD radio, CD, USB, Aux, outputs, etc), and reviews (only negative reviews are regarding a dim display), so it was the obvious choice. I considered comparable Kenwood units, but the user interface is annoying at best. [ Steven  Feb 19, 2016 ]
    Love me a pioneer radio nah m sayin [ Christopher  Feb 12, 2016 ]
It had all the features I wanted but didn't want to spend too much because my car is old and may only have it another couple years. [ John  Dec 30, 2015 ]

You will still be able to use the fader when connecting the speakers to the internal amp and then using the preamp output set to subwoofer. You only lose the fader if you set the rear amp channels on the receiver are set to subwoofer. You do not lose the fader when you set the rear preamp outputs to subwoofer. I hope that helps!
