Play your music your way

Pioneer's MVH-X580BS digital media receiver lets you enjoy music from your iPhone® or iPod®, select Android™ phones, or a USB thumb drive. With built-in Bluetooth® and plenty of sound-shaping tools, it's a great choice for digital music fans.

You can also check out the news or a ballgame on good old-fashioned AM/FM radio, or connect a SiriusXM tuner. All this great tech comes in a slick-looking package with a "form follows function" design that's easy to use.

Pioneer MVH-X580BS

Colorful, informative display

iPhone-friendly

With iPod and iPhone Direct Control, you can plug your device into the receiver's USB port and make music selections through the receiver. As a bonus, the receiver will also charge your device while you're playing your tunes. If you own a compatible iPhone, you can take advantage of Siri® Eyes Free functionality with a touch of a button, accessing a variety of functions with your voice commands.

Great with Android

Android users can control their music via Bluetooth or plug into the front panel USB port and play music while getting a charge. If you just purchased a new Android phone, you'll be glad to hear that the MVH-X580BS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), so you can use your USB port to stream music from Android 4.1 (or later) devices.

You can also plug in a thumb drive and enjoy FLAC, MP3, WMA, and WAV files, or use the aux input to connect an MP3 player or portable satellite radio.

If you're using an iPod, iPhone, or USB device, Pioneer's integrated MIXTRAX virtual DJ technology can turn your music collection into a non-stop playlist, complete with wild mix effects.

Perfect for Pandora

If you're a Pandora fan, you can use your iPhone or Android phone to create unique stations that play nothing but your favorite kinds of music. You can rate songs, bookmark them for purchase, and learn more with complete track data.

Spotify, too

The MVH-X580BS also works with the Spotify app, so you can use the receiver's controls to play, pause, or skip. With a few more presses, you can browse playlists and radio stations.

Other apps

But that's not all. Pioneer's Media App Control, lets you enjoy tunes from various other music apps, like iHeartRadio® and Aupeo™.  And the Pioneer ARC app lets you control your receiver's basic functions from your phone. You can adjust settings or access your stored music or favorite music apps directly through the ARC app.

Bluetooth™ and Siri Eyes Free

The MVH-X580BS features built-in Bluetooth, so you can enjoy hands-free calling, wireless music streaming, and your Apple or Android phone's voice recognition technology. iPhone users (see below) can take advantage of Siri Eyes Free functionality with just the touch of a button.

Make and take calls

The included external microphone picks up your conversation, and you'll hear your caller through your vehicle's speakers. Wide Band Speech Technology, which basically doubles the usual bandwidth, ensures clear and easy-to-understand conversations

The dual phone connection lets you pair two phones, while “Guest Mode" allows you to add or replace a mobile device with ease. That's a great feature for a family car with multiple drivers, or one driver with multiple devices.

Plenty of performance

With no CD player to worry about, Pioneer's designers happily loaded in lots of other features. A powerful MOSFET amplifier gives you outstanding sound, while Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) technology brings back the details lost when you compress music.

Time alignment and a 13-band graphic equalizer let you adjust the sound to suit your tastes, while three sets of RCA preamp outputs will come in handy when you're ready to add amplifiers and subs to your system.

Satellite radio-ready

You can also add a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (not included, requires subscription). Satellite radio offers an unparalleled variety of music, news, sports, and talk, and your favorite channels will stay with you, even when you're in the middle of nowhere.

Good sounding radio with good bluetooth capabilities. Unfortunately I had difficulty reading the display in my 2009 F250, radio sits high with lots of sun glare. Crutchfield is definitely the place to purchase this type of equipment as they made swapping it for the easy to read JVC KD-X33MBS incredibly EASY. Thank You Crutchfield!

    2003 Land Rover Discovery
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very decent head unit. Installed in 2003 Land Rover Discovery. I use it to connect a smartphone through AUX or USB. I was able to keep the steering wheel controls, which are Volume Up/Down, Mode (Source) and Track Previous/Next (or radio scan). When using the steering wheel Track Prev/Next control, it's a bit slow to change songs, but it works - usually I just use this to skip something. I set the illumination to old school green to match the vehicle (not perfect match, but close enough to fit in). I used 2x LOC80s to keep the factory amp in the vehicle and adjust the volume that the head unit sends to the amp. I used the filter on this head unit to limit the amount of bass, which the vehicle would only turn into lousy panel shaking sounds - it sounds pretty good now. A significant improvement and much more convenient over the factory tape/CD/radio unit in a 2003 vehicle - I was using a tape/aux adapter to connect my phone to the stereo, which sounded pretty bad. I've got more volume and less distortion now, plus less cables and better control over everything. I wanted to see how much improvement I'd get from replacing the head unit alone before replacing speakers. I'll probably add some speakers next and while the panels are open, I'll seal the doors to reduce panel shaking.

Pros: Very decent digital media receiver - USB/AUX/Bluetooth/AM/FM/Pandora No CD player - unnecessary obsolete junk Bluetooth and mic for calls Steering wheel control integration Installed easily enough in 2003 Land Rover Discovery DIN bracket is highly adjustable Unit is easily removed and re-installed - I had to adjust other components a few times to get everything working Plenty of features

Cons: Entry/Entry-Mid level - not an excellent player, but good enough Not the best analog to digital processing, but not bad for the price Steering wheel controls work, but Track Prev/Next is a bit slow - Volume Up/Down is fine and Source Select is quick too, but Track select lags - this could be the steering wheel control interface (SWI-RC) or a lot of different components from the steering wheel all the way to the source (smartphone - iPhone)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The install was tricky with getting the radio to fit with the Metra single din adapter but with some tinkering it was done. The radio itself is great. Paired with the ARC app this radio is unstoppable. It has individual EQs for each speaker, subwoofer control, radio color settings and you can control the radio straight from the Spotify or Pandora app. The install took about an hour with average knowledge. If you're worried about looks, the matte gray of the adapter and the color options of the radio make this blend into any vehicle, especially my Challenger.

Pros: Ease of Use Bluetooth ARC App

    Cons: Installation

Great piece, was easy to install and get working. I can't get the Pioneer Android app to connect, but the app was always annoying me with a notification when my Bluetooth was on so I don't want it installed on my phone anyway. The menu options are great, there's a ton of them to really fine tune your linstening preferences. No complaints about the unit itself.

Pros: Lots of options Looks great Sounds great Automatically connects to my phone and starts an album where I left off Great price

A pretty nice stereo. The illumination dims too much when the headlights are turned on, and I drive with my headlights on all the time. Some of the features of the stereo are difficult to figure out. The instructions in the manual are not very clear. Some of the installation instructions are not real clear, but with a little determination you can get it installed. I did not even have to contact Customer Support.

Ive had this product for a couple weeks installed, and I love it. The bluetooth works perfectly and is as responsive as you would expect/want. The reception is clear for am/fm, and the sound is excellent when running even stock speakers. I have it in my 2001 Jeep TJ. I have read complaints about the screen not being bright enough, and on some of the darker colors I would agree, but if you are running a blood red screen during the day without heavy tints you will have that problem with any screen. I have had no problems at all reading my screen with white info text and red buttons/knobs. It looks great. Everything installed really easily thanks to all the Crutchfield freebie kits. Took me about 30 minutes.

Awesome stereo for the money. The music coming through my 2004 Jeep Liberty sounds like I spent over a grand on new speakers. I thought about buying better speakers but now I don't have too. The different colors are cool and the kids love watching it change. The microphone cord was easy to hide and there's no static on the other end. Having Bluetooth in this car is amazing. It's really cool to get in the car and the radio is playing my playlist from Spotify once I turn the car on. I have an aftermarket radio in my other car and I love this stereo so much I'm buying another one

Pros: Improves factory speakers Fun color choices No static from the microphone when making calls Easy to pair Bluetooth Very enjoyable to continue listening to your favorite music.

So far so good. I installed new kicker speakers in my truck as well. They are all powered by the head unit with no amp. Very loud!!! After about 90% volume it starts to sound distorted. If I had an external Amp I may be able to go a little louder. I like the ability to control the light color and the brightness. I have no issues seeing anything in daytime, I set the color to pure green and brightness to 10.

    Pros: Loud Bright Connectivity

Purchased this for our 1998 Mercedes E320. I am very impressed with the value here. It wasn't that many years ago it cost 2 or 3 times the money to get Bluetooth, 13 band EQ, smartphone compatability, multiple display color options, built in crossovers, 3 preouts, and other features built into this deck. Currently running through the stock speakers and sounds much cleaner and detailed. The preset EQ options and ARC app made it a snap to dial in.

Pros: Great bang for the buck, easy to set up. To me five stars would be for something with really high build quality, top notch DACs, etc. Build quality good but not spectacular.

Cons: If wiring a Mercedes double check the constant and switched power leads on the harness. These needed to be reversed on the adapter we were sent. Mercedes also has a deep single din opening in the dash with plastic walls on the sides. The side walls press on the mounting cage which makes it catch on the stereo when sliding it in. You will need to look carefully and bend back the tabs on the cage its catching on. This may be peculiar to the Mercedes.

Here is the issue I have with this head unit. You can turn on Spotify, Aux, USB, but you cannot turn off the head unit's control of your Pandora app. When you launch Pandora, the radio takes over your app and you can only control Pandora through buttons on a radio. I mean talk about stepping 20 years back. It's dumb.

Features are nice, slightly ahead of the JVC I had in terms of performance. Switches sources and stations more quickly. I use it mostly for radio and bluetooth audio from my Android phone. Having a few issues with bluetooth not auto-connecting when I get in the car. but it may be something I don't have configured right. Install was not bad, the PT Cruiser's CANBUS electronics don't make it simple. Microphone cable is plenty long to place it wherever you want. I wanted to wait a bit before reviewing this unit and I'm glad I did, this is a GREAT stereo! My iPhone 4s easily paired with it and when I leave the car, it reconnects upon my return and continues playing from where iTunes left off. If you're streaming a station, it will reconnect automatically. I haven't tried the USB input yet but why would I when I have iTunes? Maybe if there is a software upgrade or something. There were some reported "issues" that made me cautious. I found that by spending about 10 minutes learning the menus, the brightness and sound can be adjusted as well as the colors of the display. Those who are complaining about the display being dim need to adjust the brightness through the menu. The unit sounds great even with my OLD stock speakers. Guess what my next upgrade will be! I'm not a huge fan of the detachable faceplate but hey, I leave it on. All in all, you can't go wrong with this unit.

Pros: Feature rich with easy to navigate menus. Sounds great (even with 2001 speakers) Digital streaming... NO CD'S!!! Works well with Siri so you can keep your eyes on the road where they belong!

Cons: Detachable faceplate sticks out past the dash a little but it's not ugly and functions as intended.

Exactly what we were looking for. Connects every morning to the iPhone, plays from the Music list and from Pandora with no problems. Connecting to a second phone was tricky when the primary was in range, but went smoothly once the other phone's Bluetooth was turned off. Sounds fine on the factory speakers in our '03 Civic, saving up for replacements next. Chose this model over the one below it due to the multiple color display option and it allowed for the display to be matched spot on. Looks factory, sounds better.

Pros: Connects to the iPhone easily. Plays Music and Pandora. Sounds better than factory. Display adjusts to match dash lighting.

Cons: Not really a con, more of an FYI. Primary Bluetooth device needs to be out of range or turned off to connect a second device.

Great little stereo to upgrade my stock system in a 2006 Ford Ranger. What I really like about the Pioneer stereo over the Kenwood is the compatibility with the iPhone 6. My kenwoods have an obnoxious glitch with iPhone volume through BT. Every time you change a song the volume automatically goes down to 15. This stereo doesn't have that issue! Great sound and easy to use features. The BT connects very quickly and it's easy to pair new phones.

Pros: BT functionality with iPhones Ease of pairing Display colors can be changed for buttons and display independently Remote is easy to use and works well Sound quality is improved over stock Ford stereo

Cons: Not the best quality Less options to change display appearance (i.e. clock, song title/name, etc) Cannot remove stereo surface display (theft risk)

Quite possibly the worst radio ever. Please enjoy my pain. -Source Menu: Do you like a menu of 6 items to randomly cycle in no predictable order? This is for you! I use two thing - Radio and BT Audio. It is like a slot machine wondering when one of those two will cycle through next. Sometimes right away. Sometimes I have to see pandora and ipod 3 times each before I get one of the ones I want. -Volume: When your stereo is too loud and you want to turn it down fairly quickly (or the opposite - when your jam comes on) do you like turning the dial over and over like its the final thing on the price is right? Or pressing the vol up button on your steering wheel 15 times to even make a slight difference? This is for you! -General stability. When you are listening to a good book on your iphone via BT do you want your stereo to randomly jump to radio, then ipod (no ipod connected) and then back to your book a minute later without you pressing any button. You will LOVE this radio. To balance the above, which is all true: Install was easy. The radio sounds nice. The face comes off and on easily. Radio reception is decent.

    Pros: sounds decent

Cons: interacting with it in any way

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

bought this to replace an original 1998 boxster CDR-210 radio (2 dash speakers and 2 door speakers). I was looking for BT streaming as the primary feature and something that had colors to match the orange control colors. The order came with the tools needed to remove the original radio and instructions made it a snap to remove. the wiring harness matched up with the OEM wiring and was easy to connect together with a few butt connectors. the radio sleeve took a bit of handling to get it into the radio space but once there it seems to fit well. I hooked up the radio and tested before finalizing everything and it worked first time. the biggest challenge was figuring out where to place the the BT microphone for calls. I put it on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. sounds ok, but may move later. the radio itself is much better than the original. I did have to update the firmware but the instructions on how to do it were very straight forward. Changed the radio color to orange to match the dash and paired my iphone. I can now stream sirius radio through the web app to the radio and it sounds fantastic. there are a ton of features that I haven't played with yet as i like the out of the box settings. it also has a wireless remote but I don't think I would use that while driving. all in all it took about 1 hour to remove the original radio and install the new one including placing the mic. I am very pleased with this radio.

Pros: BT streaming for iphone works perfectly, lots of color options, sounds terrific out of the box.

Cons: buttons are a bit small, needed to update firmware.

Pretty intuitive set-up, despite a pretty intimidating manual. I read through it before installation, but found it completely unnecessary - the controls are easy to use, the menus easy to follow, and the options are many; color, info displayed, audio settings, etc. Removable faceplate could use a case. VERY light weight was a surprise. Careful with the pull tools - they can slip INTO the body of the radio during installation.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit fits well in my old Alfa Spider. The color controls allow a match to the dash board illumination color which is a nice feature for classic cars. I 'm not a huge fan of the shiny black plastic bezel (piano finish) but there isn't so much of it that it's distracting. Blue tooth works seamlessly and the 2 phone hook up is interesting but can be confusing. I too noticed that the display can be dim in harsh sunlight as with most of these types of displays. I noticed that some colors work better than others so choose your palette consistent with your needs. If you have sun glasses with polarized lenses you may not be able to see anything depending on the colors you choose for the display. The unit sounds good as I installed 4 new 5.5" speakers with it. There is no additional amplification so at louder settings I'm getting some clipping on lower quality mpeg files and heavy bassline tracks. With a convertible car, one tends to need to set more volume with the top down. Although I'm not interested in entertaining the neighborhood while driving, an additional amp boost would level out the low end (even though the front doors shake now with the bass output). I'm going to live with it for a while before I go that route. Definitely worth the price paid.

Pros: Easy to set up. Color match looks great with old cars. Adequate amplification for 4 speakers. Easy controls and menus are mostly understandable.

Cons: BT music starts up right away when unit comes on at car startup. Some may not like that.

This unit was exactly what I was looking for. Basically all I wanted was Bluetooth handsfree and streaming Pandora. I like that I can thumbs up and thumbs down songs in Pandora mode. This unit handles these functions exceptionally well. This is the second Pioneer unit I have owned since I was so happy with the first. I have owned kenwood, alpine and Sony and of them this is the brand I would recommend for features and reliability. My only complaint is the display is pretty dim during the day. Night time is no problem but daytime driving I have a hard time reading it. It may be the way the unit is oriented in the vehicle. I never use a cd player so I was looking for a media unit to save some money and I'm glad Crutchfield had this one.

Pros: Bluetooth with mic, 3 preouts, custom illumination, Pandora mode

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good system. Plenty of reviews complain of dim display but that depends on color choice and brightness. I have set my display to one of the standard greens and it is generally good enough for me in bright full sun noon lighting. Sometimes it could be a little brighter, but virtually every radio would have the same problem unless the display had such a contrast as e.g. a basic black on white LCD display. Sound quality is good, menus are easy to use and button size smallish, but really not an issue as others complain of. This is a single DIN radio, there are practical limits! The included remote controls works as expected and is useful sometimes. The Pioneer ARC software on my iPhone works fine too, even better when the phone is direct connected via USB cable. Playing mp3s off a USB flash drive is an easy way to expand available music if you don't have much / enough on a phone. Call quality using BlueTooth and the included external mic. is good, but a built in mic would have been nice to avoid having to route a wire. I took my wire out the back of the radio, inside the dash, tucked it easily in the trim by the windshield, then along to the rearview mirror rather than the sun visor. It gets a little closer and is better than clipping to the visor

Pros: - Easy installation - Easy to use - Good sound quality - Clock always displayed capability - Good phone calls - Easy Radio, AUX, USB flash drive, BlueTooth or USB connected phone/iPod playback - Button and display independent color change ability - Good value for cost - Pioneer ARC phone app works well to control playback, or system settings - Playing music from phone via BlueTooth and using Waze navigation simultaneously works well, music volume reduces so Waze can be

Cons: - Pioneer should semi strip wires in the included wiring harness the way Metra does, to enable simply pulling insulation off and connecting to the Metra wiring harness adapter, minor install detail - With phone BlueTooth enabled but playing radio, if Waze begins to give directions or alerts, system automatically turns off radio and enables BlueTooth play. Sometimes I want radio and Waze. It would be nice to allow Waze with radio, not auto force phone BlueTooth playback

if You're looking for a nice head unit to replace the stock radio, and update your vehicle to give you all the nice bluetooth and hands free options that come stock with most vehicles now a day's, this is what you need. I've had it for a little over 3 month's and truthfully im overall impressed with the radio. it connect's fine with my iphone (5S) it'll even remember where you were in a playlist or on a channel and pick back up where you left off at if you turn the car off run into the store and get back in without missing a beat. setup features were a nice addition as well, if you're like me and aren't really a car audio guru but know enough to get you in trouble this radio in my opinion, offers you all the nice EQ and audio options from a higher end head unit that you could want it gives you the option to select your crossover's and fine tune you're setup to your preference. truthfully i would buy this radio over again in a heart beat with no hesitation, my only gripe would be that with my F150 (04) and the way the dash is designed it make's the display difficult to read during the day but after looking at several different unit's in several other truck's just like mine it seem's just about any brand your going to get has this issue and it's more of a vehicle issue rather than the radio itself. so that being said seriously if you want a nice single din radio for anything on wheels or a keel (although this model isn't waterproof) you seriously need to get this radio

Pros: Great price point, Quality interface and construction, Cover's all the modern necessities (BT streaming, App Interface, Hand's free calling and so on), Easy installation and well written direction's

Cons: There really isn't a con to this unit in my opinion. It is what it say's it is, and it does it's job extremely well.

There is a small area where the sun comes in my car that makes the display difficult to read, however; there is also a brightness setting that is set at 1. I have been very pleased with the systems performance. It connects to my phone each time i get in the car. Could it be a little quicker on the connect, yes it could but still it connects everytime. Sound is good, not great. Price was great. It's all i needed to have tunes.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was infuriating! But let's start with the good parts. The sound quality is excellent. I installed this in a 2005 Subaru Outback. The sound quality exceeded my expectations. Paring my iPhone was easy. The controls are fairly easy (for units like this). Keep in mind you still need to push the volume button, rotate the knob to get to the menu you want, push the knob in, (maybe have to wait for the message to scroll to see where you are at). So, here in 2016 no new innovation when it comes to menu navigation. There is an app to control music. I tried it...once...not too impressive; easier to set a playlist and let it go or use Siri. Speaking of Siri, there is about a 5 second delay when activating Siri, but otherwise works well through the external microphone. And that sums up the good stuff. Now the bad.If you plan to use more than one bluetooth (BT) device with this unit, good luck not pulling your hair out. The instructions do not do a good job of telling you how you can switch between the devices. This is followed by what looks like a progress bar... then nothing. Also, the error messages you receive are not listed in the manual. Great! (sarcasm) You can always plug your phone in via the usb port on the front, but why did I get a unit with BT?! Finally, it is slow to connect to the BT device. I think it took around 30 seconds to a minute. This is a problem for anyone with a smartphone... Also, no CD so limited on inputs. I wanted wireless and got frustrated.

Pros: Has BT, hands free calls, sound quality excellent

Cons: Horrible at managing multiple BT devices, no easy(or at all) way to switch between BT devices. Slow to connect BT.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a good radio. iPhone/iPod controls work flawlessly both through bluetooth and USB. The external mic has a long enough wire that it can be placed virtually anywhere in the car and it works well. I put mine on the steering column and haven't had any issues with it picking up my voice. Audio quality seems to be about the same as the stock unit which I never had any issues with. Installation instructions didn't apply directly to my vehicle so I completely ignored them. I used the shop manual for instructions on removing the stock unit and then just played around with the parts for an hour to figure out how to best fit the new one in. I received a free Metra adapter with a pocket under the radio that I ended up throwing away. This radio screws right into the original holes and you can reuse the original pocket that comes with the car.

Pros: iPhone/iPod control and external mic both work well. Audio quality is good. Wiring diagram was easy to follow. Multiple colors to allow a close match to existing interior lighting.

Cons: Dim display. It can be seen at night and when it is completely overcast, otherwise it is impossible to see. The glossy face only makes it worse. Navigating the menu is troublesome enough that it can't be used to adjust anything while driving. Even selecting the source is difficult if you don't have the cycle memorized because the display is too dim to read.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, you've probably seen other reviews say "the screen is dim". I did, but my last radio I heard the same thing. No, this one REALLY is dim. Sunglasses make it illegible. But beyond that, the feature list is astonishing for the price. 16-channel EQ, individual speaker volume correction, adjustable high pass filters, and all the advanced settings are easily changed through the ARC app, which is good, because the radio's on screen menu is clunky at best. The response time is slow, so navigating the menus often ends up in the wrong spot, as the screen hasn't changed but the selection has. For its price the options can't be beaten. Sure there are some problems, but the strengths far outweigh them.

Pros: Excellent audio customization Extremely variable color Solid companion app (on iOS) Settings can be saved and restored in case of loss Settings are maintained across battery disconnect Minimal flashiness Solid, easily used mount for DIN radios

Cons: Seriously dim screen No really, the screen might as well be off in sunlight High pass filter is on or off for all speakers (but is adjustable F/R) Menu in radio is difficult to navigate Control buttons a little small

Purchased this to replace my stock radio, which lacked bluetooth or an aux port. The radio reception, unfortunately, isn't as good as the stock radio. My favorite two stations were a bit fuzzy, but still listenable on my stock radio. Now I can't hear anything because it cuts in and out frequently when driving. Even when I switch to AM, the signal is so bad that it will scan through the entire band without locking onto a station since it can't pick anything up reliably. This shouldn't be an issue if you already get decent signal on your stations. I'm just kinda bummed because those were the only two that I liked, and now I can't get them anymore.

Pros: Not gaudy looking Price Bluetooth/Aux work great Easy install

    Cons: Radio reception downgrade

Crutchfield response on 8/17/2016 One of our Tech Support Advisors, Jason, reached out to Mario, letting him know that the likely culprit for the poor radio reception is the blue/white wire connection on Mario's new Pioneer car stereo. His Prius includes a power antenna, and this wire needs to be connected to activate this antenna's amplifier for better reception.

While I normally love Pioneer units - I'm Extremely disappointed with this one. The only way to hook an iPod up is though the USB input on the Front of the unit. Seriously no cool looking - completely destroys the clean look of the unit. I may have well use a cassette adapter if I wanted wires coming out of the front of the head unit whenever I wanted to listen to music. Not Crutchfield's fault - I guess I didn't read the description properly. But on 2 other Pioneer head units I have, Both have Rear USB input for Ipod. So if you want a clean looking install without wires - Avoid This Unit. I will probably be returning this one, as the iPod control was the main reason I wanted it (and it's Only a media receiver, why else would anyone buy this!? - Pioneer Really messed this one up.)

Pros: For a "Media Receiver" - it's pretty much useless. Unless you want a bunch of wires coming out of the front of it. If that was the case, I would have just used a cassette adapter.

Cons: Useless as a media receiver if you want a clean install - No Rear IPOD Input!!

I like the variety of features, Bluetooth connectivity and variable color display. In fact, the variable colors is one main reason I chose this over a Sony or JVC. The problem with this unit is the miserable display brightness/patchiness. From the driver's seat, the display is very dim with the center portion appearing dimmer than the rest. From the passenger seat, the display is nice and even and of decent brightness. The variable colors do me little good on the display screen because white is the only one I can easily read. Pioneer needs to brighten up the displays on these things! This unit makes use of the Pioneer ARC app, which when it works, make changing the settings easier. The problem is that it is an exercise in futility to get the app and the radio to communicate. When they do finally link up, it is by accident. I cannot figure out how to get them to link reliably. Other than the dim display and aggravating app, the unit is very nice. Now if Pioneer would fix the app communication issues it would be a nice stereo even with the mediocre display.

Pros: Tons of settings and features, controls Spotify and Pandora

Cons: lousy display brightness, control app is a joke

We replaced our factory Suburban radio last week. Crutchfield made it super easy. One of the guys helped me confirm our pick from their website was a good candidate. The directions were mostly very clear (one specific line item was a little confusing - in part because my car had an early generation OnStar). With two quick phone calls, they helped me sort it out and we were able to install the radio without any trouble (my 11yo and I). The radio is really cool looking, works perfectly, and is a major upgrade for us. The only challenges are: 1) its a little quiet, and 2) there are so many darn "settings" to play with - that we really haven't had time to fully check it out. The necessary ones were simple to adjust (balance, fade, etc). We'll have fun trying it out over the next few months.

Nice unit. Radio reception is improved over my 7 year old Pioneer unit. Bluetooth works just like it should, although the first time I heard the ringtone coming from the unit I almost ran off the side of the road. The cab of my truck is a little loud when driving down the road especially in the summer with the windows down so I expected the microphone to be useless but to my surprise it worked well with only the driver side window rolled up. The manual said you can't control the playback order of files on a USB drive and at first it seemed that way. After some investigation I found the playback order to be the order of tracks (by time) placed on the USB (ie. move each file to the drive individually, the first file you transfer is played first, the second one transferred is played second, etc.) I was happily surprised that it could be controlled after all.

Installatin was easy. The product itself is just OK. I made the switch basically for bluetooth accessibility so in that respect it's met my needs. But that's where it stops. The cons far outweigh the negatives with this unit. Starting with the display. The navigation is average at best, but the display itself is nearly impossible to read in any sort of daylight. It was a rainy and overcast morning today on the way to work and I could still barely see the screen. The reflection totally blinds viewing the unit. I had no idea how often I checked the time in the car until I couldn't. I read other reviews that mentioned this but thought it wasn't a big deal. It is a VERY big deal. Next is ease of use. It's safe to say I have no idea what this unit will be doing when I turn on the car. More often than not it connects to bluetooth and then pauses itself. Sometimes it will say it's connected to "ipod" when my phone isn't even connected via usb cord. It will start random songs that I haven't even played recently. Some complained about the time it takes to connect to bluetooth but it doesn't seem like a problem to me. Siri "eyes free" is anything but. Siri dings twice...once to let you know she's listening and again when she's done listening. Sometime the "eyes free" feature will ding the first time, sometimes not. So I have no idea if she's listening (remember you can't see the screen due to glare). 90% of the time she just dings out while I'm talking.

Pros: Easy installation Dash light color match

Cons: Siri eyes free Bluetooth Glare

I really like the ability to manually adjust the display colors as it allowed me to somewhat match it to my dash lights. In addition, the bluetooth phone quality is surprisingly good. I was able to mount the mic near the instrument panel and it has performed quite well. I can't really speak much about the sound quality as I primarily use it to listen to audiobooks, but the overall functionality of the unit has been great. Also, huge props to the customer service folks here at Crutchfield. I actually had ordered another unit and called to swap for this one. The only thing about putting it all together, is that there should be some butt connectors included. Also, some of the wiring colors were not the exact same colors. This unit was what I expected it to be. I have and older DEH model in another car and am very happy with it. This model had all the features such as bluetooth, hands free, Spotify etc that I felt was important for my daughters college car.

    Pros: Features for the price.

Cons: Display brightness is a little weak. Some colors are useless in the daylight. Tolerable if you pick the right color. Distorts a little above about 90% volume, but that could be the stock speakers.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced a little older version of this same Pioneer streaming receiver in my 1984 corvette . The control knob is located as far left as physically possible on the Pioneer X580BS. This is important due to the fact the GM engineers hid the stereo behind the floor shifter and practically on top of the transmission tunnel , [ down by your knees ] . Being a significant distance from your line of sight while driving , the display color options are much appreciated. The Pioneer x580 bs drives the original , 32 year old Bose 3" speakers to a level of sound , much better than anyone would have thought possible . NOW , my favorite thing about the X580 is the quality of the Bluetooth. The first time I received a call While driving , I was amazed , and still am over the sound quality of the calls . I have a friend who is more than a little upset that the factory BT in his Cadillac STS is lacking compared to the value priced Pioneer .

Pros: Build quality , usb feature [ leaving commercial radio in the dust , doesn't one to own a piece of luggage bring along music } Bluetooth feature my absolute favorite.

Cons: In a year of use , haven't found one yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the factory radio in my 04 Tacoma with this head unit and I have to say its a huge improvement over the factory unit (No surprise there). The bluetooth works very well, almost as good and quick to connect as my Ford Sync in my other car. Call quality and clarity is awesome. Pandora and Spotify work as expected. I still have the unit 5 stars as I think its extremely worth it for the money but some of the buttons are tiny and feel cheap. It also is a little confusing to navigate the menus until you get a hang of the functions. Speaking of which, there are a lot of EQ functions and settings to play around with. I cant wait to hook this up to a 5 channel amp and complete my system.I've had pioneer receivers for over 10 years and I have no doubt this one will last a long time ahead. One cool feature is being able to change the colors of the receiver to anything you like AND you can change the colors between the Volume knob (and nearby buttons) and the rest of the receiver face plate. I dont find it dim during the day time UNLESS my headlights are on.

Pros: Innexpensive, Lots of features, Attractive, Great Bluetooth functionality and call quality. One word: Pioneer

Cons: Menus can be a little confusing. Smaller buttons feel cheap.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great low cost option for digital media. Really does everything I wanted: USB, Radio, Bluetooth enabled with dedicated stations for Pandora and Spotify (the big seller for me). I will say that this deck is anything but intuitive. I have spent a ton of time with manual in hand. I found many features by shear accident. Was very frustrating just getting my phone to connect. However, the quality has been great ever since. I love being able to scan through my streaming stations on the deck itself. I do with the display was brighter. this makes it very hard to see in the daylight. Overall a great buy for the money.

    Pros: Bluetooth streaming with Spotify!

Cons: Dim display, non intuitive controls.

Overall a good unit for the price. Features work as expected and the pioneer app for the iphone was an unexpected bonus. Only negative is the display just isn't bright enough in the daytime. Tried many different colors and just wanted 1/3 more intensity than what it has.

Pros: Good features for the price. Pioneer app for phone provides quick feature adjustment.

Cons: Display just isn't bright enough in daylight.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this unit to install in my son's car. Since all of his music is on Spotify and other apps on his iPhone, this unit is exactly what he needed. Now he can control everything without looking at his phone. The bonus is that he can charge his iPhone at the same time using the USB port on the front PLUS talk using the hands free feature. This alone is great especially since the l laws are getting tighter on how you use your phone in the car.

Pros: Flexible features, easy to adjust, high and low pass filters when you add a subwoofer.

Cons: The only suggestion I have is that you need to remove the factory radio back support bracket. If you don't, the bracket will not let the new radio go far enough into the dash for a solid installation. The directions didn't state this. This really isn't a Con but a suggestion to put into the install directions. The removal of the back support bracket is really easy. You only need to remove 3 screws.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality and features of this unit are great. I have setup the mic for Bluetooth calls and have been told the sound quality is great from people on the other side of the phone. I do have a couple gripes. The screen is nearly impossible to see in daylight. I will need to get better at memorizing the controls because there are a lot of bright and sunny days here in Phoenix and this makes a pain to use. Also, in general, it takes awhile to power up and start playing music, but Bluetooth is especially long. In my old car with a BT adapter in the Aux port, I would be connected and streaming by the time I put my seat belt. Now it is more like when I am at the end of the drive way.

Pros: Customizable, variety of playback options (USB, SAT, AUX, BT, Radio), works well with my factory speakers and has RCS's making it easy to upgrade and add on, easy enough menus, included remote,

Cons: Display easily washed out in daylight, slow powering up and connecting to phone via bluetooth

For $99, this is absolutely the best option out there. I replaced the CD43 unit in my '95 M3. I did not want to tackle changing wiring over to then only run some 3rd party blue tooth item. i wanted to keep standard DIN, and could care less about CD's.

Pros: Amazingly simple install, far superior sound to factory, super simple bluetooth! Fabulous solution!!

Cons: still an aftermarket unit that looks a little too aftermarket for my taste, BUT the color matching illumination is the best out there.

I was looking for a head unit that would allow me to take advantage of Bluetooth connectivity and my Spoitfy account, which I use daily. I'm not a fan of listening to the radio, so being able to stream my music was paramount. I also had a budget of $100, and after reading the specs on this receiver, I gave it a shot. Overall, it's been perfect. Easy to setup, lots of customization features, connecting phones (up to 3) via Bluetooth is a breeze...and it sounds great - much better than the original stock unit. It's a great upgrade!

Pros: Features, ease of setup, customization capabilities, sound quality

    Cons: It doesn't go to 11 :)

I had been looking for a new car stereo to update my 1997 Jeep Wrangler and came across this one in May. I had to wait till it was released in June and I'm super happy I did. Install was so easy and the radio looks great in the dash. Went from 1997 wires everywhere, to 2016 bluetooth wire free. Driving a stick, I'll go as far and say.. It's life changing. Works perfect from my iphone and using my Spotify premium account is worth every penny. You can change all the colors on the display and Bluetooth connection is easy. Really in love with this radio so glad I waited for it to come out!

Pros: Easy install Works great from an iPhone playing Spotify Looks awesome Sounds great

    Cons: Haven't found one yet.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The Pioneer MVH-X580BS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.  In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile),  PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer MVH-X580BS.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this receiver. You are even able to keep two Bluetooth-enabled phones connected at the same time, so you can make and receive calls from either phone through the head unit. You can only stream music from one phone at a time; you will be able switch between the two phones in the head unit's menu. Additional pairing features include -

    • SSP (Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the MVH-X580BS without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP).
    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The MVH-X580BS supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the MVH-X580BS provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The MVH-X580BS allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the MVH-X580BS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically.
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri & Google Voice): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. It also supports Google Voice for select Android smartphones (not compatible with Samsung "S Voice"). You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer MVH-X580BS also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the MVH-X580BS lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer MVH-X580BS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the MVH-X580BS and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer digital media receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device)..

    Android & iPhone Integration

Android Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer MVH-X580BS enables playback of stored music and music apps on select Android devices through its front-panel USB port. There are two types of modes to choose from based on your type of Android smartphone and what content you want to listen to.

    • AOA 2.0 (Stored Music & Music Apps): The Pioneer MVH-X580BS supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1+) to the MVH-X580BS's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and select music apps from your Android device through the Pioneer receiver. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; you'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • MTP (Stored Music w/ Song/Artist Info): The MVH-X580BS also supports MTP for playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your Android (OS 4.0+) device through the Pioneer receiver's front-panel USB port. In this mode, you get basic playback control (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), plus song/artist information on the receiver's LCD screen. During MTP connection, you cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.
Note: You will need to setup Android connectivity within the head unit's menu. Select "Memory" for MTP mode and "App Control" for AOA 2.0 mode.

iPod Direct Connect via USB: The Pioneer MVH-X580BS supports audio playback of stored music & music apps on your Apple iPod/iPhone, along with control and song/artist information display through its front-panel USB port. If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Pioneer's Lightning-to-USB cable (130CDIU52, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the MVH-X580BS. If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a 3rd party dock connector-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod/iPhone to the MVH-X580BS. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

    • Head Unit: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook. Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Play, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Play lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder. The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, and Song/Artist/Album name. Apple devices w/ iOS 6.0+ will stay unlocked, so you can access music apps; other iPod/iPhone device's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked during this mode.
    • iPod/iPhone: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen, while still being able to view song/artist information and control basic playback functions from the head unit. You will not be able to browse your iPod/iPhone's music by category from the head unit or use Link Play in this mode.
    • Apps: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Once you have selected the music app from your iPhone, you'll be able to listen to music from that app through the Pioneer head unit, view song/artist information on the head unit's LCD, and operate basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track from the head unit's front-panel control. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.

Media App Control (for Android & iPhone): The Media App Control mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps on your Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.3+) or USB-connected iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Media App Control lets you take control of compatible music apps on your compatible Android or iPhone device through the Pioneer MVH-X370BT. Media App Control allows you to play, pause, and change tracks from a compatible music app directly from the controls on the Pioneer head unit. The app's name (i.e. "iHeartAuto"), station identification, and song/artist information will be displayed on the head unit's LCD screen (when applicable, depending on app). Compatible music apps include:

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

    USB/Aux Connectivity

Front-Panel USB Input: The digital media receiver's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdrive or flashdrive (up to 32GB). 24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The MVH-X580BS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The power specifications for the MVH-X580BS are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer MVH-X580BS features three pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer MVH-X580BS lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+10 to -24).

Crossovers: The MVH-X580BS employs high-pass and low-pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speaker setup.

    • Standard: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a standard Front, Rear, and Subwoofer speaker setup using either speaker-level or low-level outputs.
      • HPF: The head unit's -6 to -24dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
      • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an -6 to -24dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.
    • Network: Allows you to set the high-pass and low-pass crossover network for a complex 3-way speaker system with Highs, Mids, and Sub using low-level outputs only.
      • Highs: The high-pass crossover for your tweeters can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.
      • Mids: You can set a high-pass and low-pass crossover from your midrange/midbass drivers. The high-pass crossover can be set to 1.25, 1.6, 2, 2.5, 3.15, 4, 5, 6.3, 8, 10, or 12.5 kHz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off. The low-pass crossover can be set to 26, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.
      • Lows: The low-pass crossover for your subwoofers can be set to 26, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz with a -6 to -36dB/octave roll-off.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 13-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 13-band graphic equalizer (50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800, 1.25k, 2k, 3.15k, 5k, 8k, and 12.5k Hz).

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Listening Position & Time Alignment: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right, or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-200") for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).
    • Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.
    • Speaker Level: You can adjust each speaker and sub channel independently from +10 to -24 to best even out the sound in your vehicle.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.
    • Auto Level: This function automatically corrects the audio level difference between the music files and/or the sources.

Rear Speaker Setup: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 3 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPod/iPhone, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer MHV-X580BS in-dash digital media receiver features detachable face security. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 12 preset colors, customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Remote Control

Advanced Remote Control App (for Apple iOS & Android): Download the Pioneer ARC (Advanced Remote Control) App onto your Apple iOS (8.0+) or Android (4.1+) device to turn your smartphone or tablet device into a remote control for the Pioneer head unit. • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The Pioneer Advanced Remote Control App provides song/artist information with album art for the music stored on your Apple iOS or Android device. You also get station identification for AM/FM radio; if an AM/FM station supports RDS, you will even get song/artist info.
    • Favorites: The app lets you quickly display radio stations saved as favorites, plus favorite songs in your Apple iOS or Android device's music library. From the Favorite screen, you also get access to contacts saved as "favorites" on your smartphone.
    • Select Apps: From the Pioneer ARC app, you can also pick from select music apps (like Pandora, iHeart, Spotify, TuneIn) that are installed on your Apple iOS or Android device. Once you select a specific music app, that particular music app opens on your mobile device for playback control.
Note: If you switch to other applications and functions, such as using other iOS device or Android applications or placing calls from your smartphone, you must restart the Pioneer ARC app on your iOS device or Android device.

Wireless Remote Control: The MVH-X580BS comes with an IR wireless remote control. I have bought several pioneer units over the years. I opted for the MVH-X580BT for the color selectable control and the many more EQ features packed in the product over lower tier models. Mostly the color change control. I have bought the MVH-X370BT, MVH-X560BT and am hoping the successor(s) are as reliable and user friendly as their prior models.[ Noah  Jul 15, 2017 ]

This head unit was recommended to me by a Crutchfield specialist. Regretfully I cannot remember his name. I have no idea about the compatibility with the iPhone 7.[ Abiel  Jun 19, 2017 ]
Sure you can use a 7. I have one as well and it works fine. Pioneer never updates their compatibility lists, so the majority of Pioneer headunits made within the last 7 years will work.[ Carson.S  Jun 18, 2017 ]
    No[ JAMIE  Jun 11, 2017 ]
Sorry to say but it doesn't have a rear USB port.[ Jeff  Jun 11, 2017 ]
Yes, it does.[ James  Jun 11, 2017 ]
Yes, including high pass and low pass as well as separate subwoofer volume.[ Lorne  Apr 17, 2017 ]
Not the old school knobs....it does have many audio adjustments that allow you to customize the sound including presets.[ Byron  Apr 17, 2017 ]
No, in order to get good clear sound out of all the speakers you should get an amp to power at least the wakeboard speakers. If you try to power everything with just the deck it won't as good as if you where to use a amp for some of all of the speakers. I hope this helps Chris.[ Jeff  Jan 28, 2017 ]

There are a rainbow of color choices. You can choose which color you like for the display[ Amber  Oct 19, 2016 ]
Yes. There is a range of colors from which to choose.[ David  Oct 19, 2016 ]
Hi Brandon,The display itself can be set to a predefined color or a custom color, and the knob and buttons on the left side can also be set to a predefined or custom color. Either one can also (together or individually) be set to fade through all colors. When in mixtrax mode, the display and buttons will flash to different colors in response to the sound. As a side note, I love this head unit.[ James  Oct 19, 2016 ]
Yes. There are a few colors to choose from for both the buttons and display.[ Byron  Oct 19, 2016 ]
    Yes[ Michael  Oct 19, 2016 ]
Hi Reginald - I do not use Spotify, but I found that the Sirius app has problems also. I am an IT specialist by trade (MCSE), and I have found the problem in my case is with the Bluetooth buffer on the phone. I have found this problem in Lollipop o all Android phones, and the buffer is set within the phone OS, and is not adjustable. I have emailed about this error - hope for it to be addressed in future releases. Did link a KitKat Android with Sirius app - problem does not occur. This may be your problem. I have simply chosen to put 2500 320k mp3 files on a stubby (PNY) 32GB USB, and I have all the music I could ever hope to listen to. Hope this helps -[ Thomas  Jul 16, 2016 ]
I have 2500 320K mp3 files on a stubby USB (PNY) 32GB - works like a charm! My own private music cloud. Best of luck.[ Thomas  Jul 16, 2016 ]
I have never tried playing music files stored on the USB drive. My son mostly uses the Spotify app on his iPhone. I tried looking up an answer for you in the manual and it looks like it might do what you are asking. If you Google this "Pioneer MVH-X580BS manual", I believe the 2nd link should take you to a pdf version of the manual. Look on page 31. It looks promising but I can't guarantee it unless I tried. In another part of the manual it looked like it said it was able to play multiple formats too. Sorry but I wish I could tell you proof positive.[ Dan  Jul 05, 2016 ]
There's a usb slot, but no idea if it would play music from a jump drive. Call Sony's customer service they are really good at answering questions. I called before I bought it & their help made me buy it.[ sara  Jul 05, 2016 ]
yes. as long as the media stored on the drive is in a supported format.[ Elmer  Jul 03, 2016 ]
Yes. I believe it has to be formatted in fat32. Search for the manual using the search termmvh-x580bt manualThen you can read additional info about it. If you put music on a jump drive right out the box it will work. If you did any fancy formatting or your music files are copy protected then it may not work. Hope this helps[ Michael  Jul 03, 2016 ]
