Great looks and great performance

Pioneer designed the impressive DEH-X9600BHS CD receiver with all the convenient features you want in a modern car stereo: Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and audio streaming, an HD Radio™ tuner for improved AM/FM, Pandora® Internet radio control, and dual USB inputs. You can add an optional SiriusXM tuner, and you'll find sophisticated sound controls and a variable-color display, along with the crowd-pleasing MIXTRAX feature.

Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth makes your drive time safer. You'll see the phone number from incoming calls displayed clearly on the sharp full-dot display. If you want to take the call, just touch a button on the Pioneer and talk while you keep both hands on the wheel. You can also stream music wirelessly from almost any Bluetooth device through this receiver.

HD Radio for the best radio sound

HD Radio

HD Radio's sonic advantages are impressive — FM broadcasts that are near-CD quality, with AM that's as good as what you're used to on FM. And if your local HD Radio station employs multicasting, this Pioneer allows you to tune into multiple channels on the same frequency, so you'll have more entertainment choices. Plus, the iTunes® tagging feature lets you save song info when your iPod® or iPhone® is connected, so you can purchase the tracks you like later.

Play stored music and streaming sources

The two rear USB inputs allow you to connect a variety of devices. For example, you could plug your iPod into one and use the other for a USB storage device. And you can access the music files on many Android™ phones through USB, so there's almost no limit to the amount of music you can have on tap. With your iPhone® or Android device connected, you'll have excellent control over your Pandora® Internet radio stations, including station selection and "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" ratings from the face of the receiver. The DEH-X9600BHS also features Media App Control, so you can play and control music from iHeartRadio®, Aupeo™, and other music apps when used with iPhones (via USB connection) or Android devices (via Bluetooth).

Built for great sound

The DEH-X9600BHS's built-in amp delivers plenty of power for strong sound. And when you send music to one of the USB inputs, you'll bypass your player's internal digital-to-analog converter and use the higher-quality DAC in the receiver — the surest path to clearer, more realistic sound. You'll also find an impressive collection of soundshaping controls, including a 5-band equalizer that lets you adjust the sound to your car's interior, and Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever, which reverses the compression process to give you more high-frequency sparkle and musical detail from your compressed music. Car audio enthusiasts who want to build a system around this Pioneer will appreciate the three sets of high-voltage preamp outputs for adding external amps.

Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS

Pioneer's full-dot display presents system and song info in sharp detail.

Full-dot display, enhanced by MIXTRAX

The DEH-X9600BHS's fold-down face offers plenty of room for displaying song info, and the bright dot-matrix display reads easily in a variety of lighting conditions. You can vary the colors of the display and controls separately, creating thousands of possible combinations to match your car or your style. Pioneer's MIXTRAX works with the playlists and music on your connected iPhone, iPod, or Android, adding DJ-inspired transitions between songs, while pulsing the variable color display of the receiver in time to the music.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

I bought this deck to replace a sony deck that never really worked and I love it. The steering wheel controls work great, the sounds is great, and the bluetooth (iPhone 6) works great.

Pros: I think that the power that comes from the deck is hard to beat. The sound and bluetooth functionality are great.

Cons: Every time you change a setting there is a "beep" that comes from the deck letting you know that you are clicking stuff. I can't turn that off (however its not too loud). I wish that you could turn off one of the two usb ports on that back so that when you are searching through the different audio sources the list would be smaller.

Not impressed with Pioneer on this one.

Bob L from Minneapolis, mn on 3/23/2016

    2006 Buick LaCrosse

I had to give this a 1 star. The display is absolutely unreadable in the daylight. The ease of use is non-existant. I had an old JVC HD radio of the same size years ago that was very user friendly. This thing is not. Everything is buried in layers of menus. There is no way one can easily go from preset to preset while driving or change to an HD station easily. Sound quality is great but I gave it only 3 stars as the AM band is totally useless. 1 station comes is and it is a clear channel transmitter that I live 3 miles from. THERE IS EFFECTIVELY NO AM RADIO. The blue tooth is OK but not great. The ease of setup for the bluetooth is terrible. Phone functionality is spotty with this and that's the best I can describe as it doesn't work like a quality interface. I was dissapointed that I did not realize until I got the thing that to insert a CD one needs to drop the front panel. Again, not while driving. Don't buy one of these. I have been so dissappointed in the functionality and lack of ease of use. I expected more from Pioneer.

    Pros: Cheap

Cons: No AM, No preset buttons. Display unreadable in daylight. Every function buried deep in menus. Can't function the controls while driving.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

From the very beginning this unit was glitchy. Occasionally there is sound with no display. There are times when none of the functions work and am unable to adjust the volume or even turn the unit off. To resume back to normal, the car must be turned off, killing the power to the unit, and then turned back on. The unit also feels extremely cheap. Hard squeaky plastic and just an overall cheap feel. I would not recommend this unit.

    Pros: Sound quality as expected.

Cons: Extremely glitchy and cheap build quality

    A great head-unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit in my 2001 Honda Civic commuter car about a month ago. I'm very happy with it. I wanted two things: Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 6 and HD radio. The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS is excellent on both counts. Bluetooth word well, and if you are a Pandora user, the ability to select playlists via the radio controls is pretty slick. Also, the HD radio implementation is good. You can change stations quickly, and the switchover from analog to HD radio is seamless. I'm very happy with this head unit.

Pros: Bluetooth connectivity HD Radio implementation Good looks

Cons: I don't know how to select between HD radio multicast channels, or if this is even possible. The manual is unclear, and I haven't been able to figure it out myself. However, I haven't called technical support.

    Mike from Michigan on 11/15/2015

I have been very impressed with this head unit. Going back to Pioneer after all these years has been a fantastic experience for me. This unit is exactly what I have been looking for. The sound quality is completely second to none. It truly has everything that I needed.

Pros: The sound quality the face plate which I can see in the sun light Everything.

    Cons: Not a one

Was buggy out of the box

    JeffZ from Ohio on 11/4/2015

Menu was buggy right out of the box. Was unable to set the display colors or the clock without the display just randomly shutting off (totally black). I use 2 - 4GB thumb drives with folders of different music. This unit cannot read folders and will randomly play "some" (not all) songs in various folders - apparently this is a known problem, this from the owner's manual on using a USB storage device: "...the following problems may occur: operations may vary....files may not be played back properly". I always used Sony's - they recognize folders just fine, but were getting very cheap, so thought I'd try a Pioneer, hoping to find a more solid unit, but sadly it failed worse.

Pros: Nice display (if you have bionic vision - looks great when you're eye level in a sound booth), sounds great - when it works.

Cons: Pricey for a unit of such cheap build quality. Known software issues for basic playback devices. Odd menus - could have been much simpler and easier to access.

Does what it needs to do

Jacob from New York on 7/7/2015

Does everything it claims to do works with my iphone 6. Looks aesthetically nice. The feel of it though is not what I expected, its all rather flimsy plastic the knob thins out where it meets the rest of the radio, only the front of the knob is that big. When you touch the knob it gives way a bit to your force so definitely not a sturdy feeling knob (yes I know I am getting hung up about this knob). It seems they went out of they're way to make the button set up as unintuitive as possible The stop/pause/play button isnt pressing the knob its pressing the small button next to it on the side the skip/next button is those stupid ass claw/lever things surrounding the knob. Again looks cool, feels cheap, wrong and uncomfortable

Pros: Lots of features, has lots to do for single din chassis size

    Cons: feels cheap

    1997 Volvo 850
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded from a Kenwood that is a couple years old. I love the sound quality of the Kenwood and I was hesitant to switch. Basically, I really wanted bluetooth calling and HD radio. Overall, the radio has a classic style look to it. Its not as sleek looking as the Kenwoods in my opinion. But I'm running it in a 1997 Volvo 850 so I like that its classic looking. Under the hood, its got great HD radio. The reception is spot on. Bluetooth is flawless so far. It took me 3 minutes to connect to my Galaxy S3. Both calling and music through Bluetooth work great. No drops, no static. Can't complain. My buddy I called said I sounded clear. Its a bummer that the mic isn't wireless. The dual USBs in the back are good but I think I will only ever use one. It came with 1 USB extension cable so you can route that to the front also. Now the big one: sound quality. I'm running on stock speakers. Is the sound quality excellent? I wouldn't go that far. Is it better than my Kenwood? I can't really tell. I feel like its more of a clear sound. Not necessarily rich, but I feel like I can hear subtle instrument sounds in the music. Overall, I think I'm going to keep it for the features. There are some audio settings to mess with so that might improve sound quality. An amp might help it too. I bought it knowing that it has lower RMS wattage than most.

Pros: HD radio reception is great. And it shows station/song info on the screen. Screen is better than my old kenwood. Customization options:animated backgrounds, different colors Bluetooth calling and music quality is great Classic looking, not too flashy but has a lot of modern features Audio quality is decent

Cons: The wiring harness has very thin wires. made me a little nervous. I wish the mic was wireless It might be a little underpowered but I haven't found a problem with that yet. You have to turn it way up to get it really loud. Shouldn't be listening to music that loud anyways! The build quality is fine but its got that shiny plastic which I'm not sure about. Overall, seems good though.

    Great radio!

I have a 1999 MB SL 500 w/ the Bose system. The volume knob on the factory radio went out. I bought this radio and installed it. However there was a pop when you turn it on, change the station, change settings, etc. I called Crutchfield tech and they told me to get 2 of these: PAC SNI-1 RCA Ground Loop Noise Isolator Item #: 127SNI1 I did and connected them to my radio and the pop noise was gone. Other than that the radio is excellent has all the necessary features I need w/ Bluetooth, cd, usb, etc. Wish it also had an SD card slot.

Pros: Good quality build and sound.

Cons: May need a PAC SNI-1 RCA Ground Loop Noise Isolator Item #: 127SNI1

I bought this radio for my GMC 2004 truck. I compared several units and got this one based on a Crutchfield reps recommendation. I have had the unit for a couple of weeks now and really like it. Great sound with my Bose speakers and it looks nice installed. I love having the ability to listen to music from multiple sources. Everything needed was included for the install.

Pros: Sound quality, multiple inputs, bluetooth, many options in setup

Cons: None really. The instructions failed to mention the connection of one set of wires but we figured it out.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

stereo has been great over two weeks time. A true test will be after a year. Overall sound quality and function of this receiver are excellent. My only issue so far is in build quality. After instal I put the face plate in my sweatshirt pocket to carry into the house. Somehow the volume knob (M.C.) popped off while in my pocket. I was able to put it back on but operation of the volume knob was off for a little bit. After some tinkering I was able to get the volume knob(M.C.) working correctly. Unfortunately it seems Pioneer never includes face plate cases anymore which is very disappointing. Luckily for me I have one to use from previous stereo but it is getting fairly worn out. Pioneer should start providing face plate cases again.

Pros: Sounds quality, fuctions, easy to use

Cons: Durability, quality of device construction, needs face plate case

    Not worth the dough

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not sure why this head unit is this expensive. The audio adjustments aren't extensive enough, the display options could be improved by a ten year old, there is no pause feature on a song without the remote, the display is so small only someone with Lasic can read it, there are no menu shortcuts and it has a limited lighting option. The best thing about it, is the dual USB ports in the back. Only reason I bought it actually. Not impressed overall.

Pros: It has dual USB ports on the back. It works.

Cons: Controls are old school, no shortcuts to menu, to extensive audio controls menu, limited display/lighting options and the price.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like this deck. I wanted a deck that was Android compatible and not by connecting it by a cord. This deck fits the bill. As soon as I get in my vehicle it automatically connects to my phone and picks back up on the playlist I was on. It also plays with different music player apps on my phone. It is for the most part pretty easy to figure out the different menus and is pretty easy to use. Plus the ease of use to be able to call people from the phone is very nice. I would recommend this deck to anyone especially those that use the Android platform.

Pros: Relative ease of use Android compatible Good sound quality

    Cons: Some limiting features

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched the Crutchfield website for months making a decision as to which head unit I wanted to replace the stock one in my 06 F150. I happy to say that this head unit has exceeded my expectations. The HD radio sounds near CD quality as long as reception is good, and the unit gets better reception that my stock head unit. The Bluetooth set is very, very easy. Connection with a new device literally takes seconds. Menu navigation is pretty straight forward and only takes a few minutes to learn. Bluetooth call quality is very good. One minor downside was that the microphone is external to the head unit and I had to run the cord from my visor to my head unit via the A pillar and under the dash. Not too big a deal if you are handy with basic hand tools. But then again, an internal microphone was not a top priority for me when researching what stereo would replace my stock unit. If anything, it enhances the call quality. People on the other end say I sound loud and clear. I have yet to use either the USB or AUX ports. I was slightly disappointed there was no front USB port, but I intend to buy the patch cord and install it so I do have a front port. One thing about the colors though, the amber color does not register with my head unit. When it says amber, it just stays red. All in all, I'm very happy with the choice I made.

Pros: - Easy Bluetooth setup - Great HD radio quality and reception - Crystal clear call quality - Android control of iHeart radio through head unit via Bluetooth - Easy to use menu navigation

Cons: - External mic cord has to be run (very minor con though) - No amber color (only an issue if you have an amber dash and OCD) - No front USB port

The best head unit I have purchased to date

I replaced a highly regarded Kenwood unit with this unit. The Kenwood started getting flaky after a year with Bluetooth, freezing and display issues. I've owned 2 other Pioneer units with no issues. This has all of the connection you want for audio.

Pros: All kinds of adjustment possibilities. Inputs are plenty. Display is bright . Android compatibility as far as using your phone as a portable drive.

Cons: Not a con for me but if you're new to Pioneer settings, there will be a learning curve.

Unit does everything advertised and was a significant upgrade over the stock Dodge radio that it replaced. My favorite features are the dual USB ports in the back and the built in HD radio. Also added the steering wheel controls and the Sirus/XM radio add-ons and they worked without any additional problems.

Pros: Great audio, multiple inputs from USB, Sirus/XM, HD radio, CD and BT (Pandora).

Cons: Slight delay when loading large playlists from USB

    Died just outside of warranty

    Anonymous from California on 12/2/2014

This head unit was great until it died just outside of the warranty. It looks cool and has a bunch of features and functions. However it always struggled to remember my radio presets so I always had to manually tune to the station I wanted to listen to. I have had problems with every single Pioneer product I've owned (over $2600 worth of electronics) with the exception of my sub. I will never buy anything that says pioneer on it again. I spent over $300 on this head unit and I would expect it to last longer than 14 months. Very disappointed...

Pros: Great sound. awesome display. Every bell and whistle you could want from a single DIN head unit.

Cons: Piece of junk died after living in my truck for just over a year

    Pioneer Radio

    1992 Mercedes-Benz 300E
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very pleased with this radio. I have had it installed in my 1992 Mercedes 500E. The sound quality is very good. My iPhone was immediately picked up by the bluetooth and I am able to stream music from a number of apps on my phone. The phone itself works well and I am able to use the system hands free which is the main reason I bought the radio. The connection quality is OK, but not crystal clear. The connection on the initial call required us to go to the phone's system as the connection had some static. The use of the radio is not intuitive at all and several hours are required to become familiar enough with the device to use it. One must read the manual carefully before knowing how to access the various features of the radio. The bottom line is that I would buy it again.

Pros: Looks good and sound quality is quite good. Bluetooth works well with my iPhone and I can stream music from multiple apps that is quite nice. The hands free phone works reasonably well.

Cons: The radio is not intuitive and it takes a number of hours to learn how to use the various features. I do not like having to cycle through a number of unconnected options to get back to the Radio and Bluetooth which are my primary functions. It would be nice if you could remove the apps that you do not use.

    Incredible! !

Very good product pioneer brought here. I like the face details. Sound quality is really good. Pretty easy to use one you figure it out. Able to control through Bluetooth.

Pros: Bluetooth is amazing great quality sound which I didn't think was possible and your able to make few changes from stereo like skip pause go back like that feature alot especially since here in LA if your caught on phone $70 fine. So many different adjustments and HD Radio sounds very good also. Especially for the price.

Cons: The bad news is that for us android guys the stereo doesn't work that great with USB port. With my new m8 doesn't book up at all so I basically use it as a charging port and sometimes that stops working. But tried my brothers iPhone works great with that.

This deck replaced my 2010 ford fusion factory stereo(without sony system). Playing this deck through the factory 6x8's. I looked at 15-20 different brands/models and this 9600 suited my lifestyle. I have listening to the ipod and radio on this thing and it rocks! Took a while to get through the tiny gray font in the instruction manual. The display is just ok. The remote helps make using this deck somewhat easier. I still am in shock from the difference in music quality and volume this 9600 pioneer puts out.

    Pros: Loud clean sound

Cons: Screen font little, takes a while to operate the device efficiently. Not a deal breaker though

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a very nice used car (2000 Mercedes c230 Kompressor Elegant in near immaculate physical and mechanical condition, 1 owner, all service records, all done at dealership, 95,000 original miles for $4200!). The only thing lacking in this car was the audio system. The factory amp and speakers were, by all reports said to sound excellent. Stock radio: not so much. So I set out to buy a head unit with clear hands-free calling, Android compatibility (phone and audio control through head units controls), audio streaming via Bluetooth, aux in, USB connectivity, HD Radio, removable faceplate, multi-line display, and (most important of all) excellent sound quality. The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS appeared by specs and by all user reviews to be the perfect. Once installed and configured all features functioned well beyond my expectations! Hands-free calls are crystal clear, audio quality is fantastic, Bluetooth connectivity functions flawlessly, and phone & music on my android 4.4.2 phone may be controlled from the head unit. Crutchfield, as always, provided fast, courteous, and helpful service. I've been using Crutchfield for about 30 years and they've always provided this level of service.

Pros: Everything. This unit delivers on all features! Most importantly it provides outstanding audio quality and crystal clear hands-free calling.

Cons: None that I have identified.

Nice lil radio i bought for my mother for her birthday since her 1999 yukon radio is getting a little dated. i installed it fairly quick and easily... alot easier than i thought it was gonna be. sounds great and has good functions. i was scared i was gonna find out how bad those 15 year old speakers were gonna sound, but with the addition of the radio it seemed to make them sound better. i like the color display can be changed. fairly easy to use.

Just got this head unit a few weeks back and love it. Bluetooth connection works great and you also have a USB and AUX connections which is great for others traveling with you. Head unit has multiple color options which look awesome. Setup is fairly simple with only a few options requiring you to reference the manual, also the remote control is nice a solid with big buttons. Still learning however.

Pros: Several digital media options for input, color changing display, good sound/loudness from built in amp and EQ options. Top of the line model for Single DIN for the price.

Cons: Minor con is having to cycle through all input source options instead of just selecting Bluetooth or HD Radio or Pandora. Possibly I haven't found a built in shortcut to do this but like I said this is minor.

Todd from Bowling Green, KY on 4/26/2014

This is my upgrade from the DEH-P7200HD. I want to love this unit because it is compatible with my iPod and my Galaxy S3. I won't repeat all of the good things the other reviewers have said; they are accurate. I want to love this unit but I can't. I bought this unit because of its Android app control mode that allows it to control apps such as iHeartAuto and TuneIn. The function doesn't work. All you get id a "BT error" message. Generic BT streaming works fine, but no luck with app control. Otherwise, it's a great unit.

Pros: See the other reviews here and elsewhere.

Cons: Lots of cheap plastic, the remote doesn't have number buttons, and the app control for Android doesn't work. That was a major reason for buying this model and it really bugs me.

Great head unit. Up until now I've only owned Kenwood and went with this unit for some of the features such as blue tooth and the graphics. Completely excels in every category and do not pay too much attention to the RED when compared to Kenwood. It sounds great and has plenty of power for the Polk db and ds 6 1/2' I'm running.

    2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this unit to replace an old Excelon unit and did not go with Kenwood due to their terrible displays. For me, the compelling features in a head unit have nothing to do with rotating colors and flashing business, and everything to do with sound quality, inputs, and functionality. For my head unit replacement, I required a clock, HD Radio, iPod controls, and an adjustable display - this unit met those well. For inputs, the dual-USB setup is fantastic; one can have a large flash drive AND an iPod, and then connect their mobile phone by Bluetooth on top of that. The audio quality by Bluetooth is excellent, as is the conversion from iPod on USB. Controls are reasonable and don't lack any major features that I tested. The control knob and track control (paddle?) felt like they had good feedback and weren't going to fall off in a few months. The buttons on the faceplate also had reasonable tactile feedback and gave no indication of being made poorly. Audio quality by CD met expectations; did not try MP3 on CD. While the official literature states that the unit has 'dimming' ability (triggered by ILLUM circuit), it's actually quite a bit more than that. One can set unique settings for daylight vs. night, so I went with the brightest white during the day (no problems in sunlight) and a soft green at night to match my Subaru's interior. Adjust the Custom color under RGB settings with low values to get the desired color and output.

Pros: Discrete day and night display settings for both the keys and the display, along with the ability to adjust either nearly infinitely. All the possible inputs one could ask for in single-DIN head unit are present.

Cons: Fixed frequencies for the EQ, low power output on the onboard amp. The animations of bringing up song information are cute, but ultimately a bit slow to fill on the screen and would be better served to just immediately bring up the display rather than wait 4 seconds for the animation. The flashing lights, animated backgrounds, color rotating are useless distractions; Pioneer would be better served to give it a better EQ and more power instead of more light options.

Pros: Microphone, work perfect and clear. Shipping packed very safe and no demage at all. Android 4.0 or higher Ice Cream Sandwich with Pandora songs listed on the unit itself.

Cons: he only Con i have with this Unit, i really wish fronts and display a little brighter. I maxed it out to 5 brightness. I can't even see during the day time. Unless, you are under the shade. Pioneer should of juice up option increase brightness option more.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The DEH-X9600BHS is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the DEH-X9600BHS without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). When your paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit, but nly one device can be used at a time. You can also pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display. In addition, the DEH-X9600BHS features "Guest Mode", which allows you to add and replace a mobile device instantly to the receiver. Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The DEH-X9600BHS supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/HSP/OPP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The DEH-X9600BHS allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the DEH-X9600BHS, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri only): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth, the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (with Song/Artist Info): The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. The DEH-X9600BHS will be able to control basic playback features; Play, Pause, & Skip Tracks (app must also support). The head unit will also display your  music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Functionality: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. iPhone with Siri users can take advantage of Siri Eyes-Free functionality with a long-press of the 3-way rotary dial on the Pioneer receiver's front-panel. When activated, Siri voice prompts play through the vehicle's speakers and the user's commands and questions are received and transmitted to the receiver using the external microphone. Siri Eyes-Free provides access to many iPhone Siri functions such as music selection, making phone calls, and audible navigation (map will be displayed on iPhone); as well as listening to text messages, calendar information, and reminders. The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and song/artist information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: Your iPhone with Siri can be connected via Bluetooth and USB simultaneously. You can only access stored music using Siri when the head unit's source is iPod or Bluetooth Audio. All other Siri functions can be accessed from any source. The head unit's audio is muted while Siri provides audible voice prompts.

    HD+Pandora+SiriusXM Radio

HD Radio: The Pioneer DEH-9600BHS's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

    • Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
    • Station Text + RDS: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. For analog FM stations, the Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as song/artist information when listening to compatible RDS FM stations.
    • Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.
    • Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.
    • iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio or RDS FM broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Pandora Internet Radio (for iPhone & Android): The free Pandora App (either fromiTunes Apps orGoogle Play) lets you play music from thePandora music service through the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the DEH-X9600BHS via the appropriate Pioneer iPod connector cable (130CDIU51/130CDIU52, sold separately) or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The DEH-X9600BHS provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List w/ Shuffle: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z). You can also listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

SiriusXM Ready: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS CD receiver is SiriusXM Ready, so you can listen to commercial-free music, all your favorite sports, exclusive talk and entertainment, comedy, news, traffic, weather, and more. Simply connect the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner (220SXV200, sold separately) to the dedicated SiriusXM port on the rear of the head unit and enjoy satellite radio without additional translators or cables. With the SiriusXM Connect tuner you'll have access to more than 150 channels of exclusive programming directly from SiriusXM, via the "SiriusXM All Access" package (subscription required). for a complete list of subscription options and channel guide. Additional features of the SXV200 SiriusXM Connect tuner include:

    • Channel/Category Lists: The Channel List displays a list of all available channels. The Category List displays all available categories and stations within those categories.
    • Metadata Display: Displayed Information such as Channel Name, Artist Name, & Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's LCD.
    • Presets: You can store up to 18 SiriusXM Satellite Radio Station Presets.
    • Tune Start: Tune Start allows you to choose whether to start a song from the beginning or from its live point when tuning to a preset music channel.
    • Tune/Category Scan: You can scan through channels within categories or songs from your preset channels. Tune Scan allows you to play back six seconds of each song in a preset music channel. Category Scan lets you play back six seconds of a live broadcast in the currently selected category.
    • Instant Replay: Supports the SiriusXM Instant Replay function, so you can pause, rewind, and replay up to 60 minutes of live content.
    • iTunes Tagging: The iTunes Tagging feature lets you Tag songs you hear on SiriusXM and stores the info on your iPod/iPhone (connected to your head unit via USB). The next time you connect your iPod/iPhone to iTunes, you will be able to preview your selections and then purchase and download them directly from iTunes.
    • Parental Control: The SiriusXM Parental Control feature allows you to control access to channels that you consider inappropriate for younger listeners. When enabled, The Parental Control feature requires you to enter a 4-digit passcode to tune to the locked channels.
Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.

    Disc & USB Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS CD receiver supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. This unit can play MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV music files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs.

Dual Rear-Panel USB Inputs (Android Compliant): The unit's dual rear-panel USB (type-A) ports and 58" USB extension cable allow you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS. USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. The USB ports are selectable (USB 1/USB 2), so you can connect up to two compatible USB mass storage class devices.

Note: The unit's rear-panel USB port supports Android OS 4.0+ (Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean) as a Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) device. It also supports Android OS 2.2+ (Froyo/Gingerbread) as a Mass Storage Class (MSC) device; as of 11/25/2013. Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Front-Panel Auxiliary Input: The DEH-X9600BHS is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-X9600BHS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the DEH-X9600BHS are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

4V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Crossovers: The DEH-X9600BHS employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Equalizer: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS CD receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The DEH-X9600BHS features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App/Media App Control mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad. It is also not supported by USB MTP devices.

    Display Features

Detachable Fold-Down Face: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS in-dash CD receiver features a manual fold-down faceplate with detachable face security. The manual fold-down face helps to prevent dust from gathering on the unit's CD mechanism. If the front-panel is not detached from the head unit within five seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone will sound. The warning tone can be turned off in the menu, if desired. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. Face-fixing brackets and screws are supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: The head unit's fold-down front-panel needs 1.625" of clearance to open.

3-Line Full-Dot LCD w/ Ever Scroll: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS features a 3-line, full-dot LCD which makes it easier to see what is playing in most lighting conditions. You can easily view file/folder lists from your MP3, WMA, AAC, and CD Text-encoded discs, Radio presets, or data from your connected iPod/iPhone. When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Note: For your convenience, this unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select the language which is best suited to your first language - English, French, or Spanish.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 5 preset colors (White/Red/Amber/Green/Blue), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors. In addition, the brightness and contrast of the display can be adjusted. You can also select "ILLUMI FX"  to enable an illumination effect (on the display and keys) that will slowly fade in and out in a set pattern when a command or operation is made from the head unit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose among twelve patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music. You can also choose which area's of the head unit's face illuminates; select Display, Display/Buttons, or Off.

Calendar/Clock + Entertainment Displays: The Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS provides time, date, month, and year display. You can choose to have the head unit display the calendar and clock even when the unit is powered off (your vehicle must be running or in the accessory position. You can also enjoy entertainment displays while listening to each sound source. You can choose from the following;  Background Visual, Genre, Background Picture (1/2/3/4), Spectrum Analyzer, Level Indicator, Movie Screen, Simple Display, or Calendar.

Note: The Clock display can be turned on or off. When the Clock display is turned off, the head unit will completely shutdown when the "SRC/Off" button is held down for one second. When the Clock display is turned on, the head unit's clock display will remain on when the "SRC/Off" button is held down for one second; the rest of the unit shuts down.

Automatic Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. You can turn the auto dimmer feature on or off. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

Engine Time Alert: This setting allows  you to measure the length of time that elapses from when the head unit is turned on and display the amount of elapsed time per set period (15 min., 30 min., or Off). There will also be an audible alarm. This function is handy if you are listening to the radio with the vehicle' ignition is in the accessory position, and the engine off.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-X9600BHS comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

    Why did you buy this?

Very nice upgrade from stock[ Mark K.  Mar 09, 2016 ]
Upgraded the radio in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Great sound, Ipod controls, Bluetooth, etc.[ Brian  Feb 17, 2016 ]

    22 questions already asked

Yes you can use both usb at the same time. Works well with a iPhone using gps and listening to music. Volume of music lowers so you can hear the commands of the gps. It will switch to you phone when you receive a call as well to use the provided mic and resume play once phone call is over[ Gary  Jan 01, 2016 ]
Not 100% sure since the owners manual does not seem to adress it, but I think is used to reject an incoming phone call....[ Glenn R.  Nov 27, 2015 ]
The reason our site shows it as not fitting is because of the depth that is needed to do an easy install on it. I recommend calling an advisor to discuss this to see if its something you can overcome. You can call us on 1-800-324-9695.[ Paul  Nov 29, 2015 ]  Staff
There is a menu with play, pause and stop etc. (There are buttons for forward and back). This menu is not easy to use but most of the time it auto plays what I had playing last[ Paul  Jun 09, 2015 ]
After your initial bluetooth pairing your phone and the Pioneer deck will automatically connect, for play/pause the band button will pause and resume playing your music.[ Tristan  Jun 08, 2015 ]
Most apps will either automatically start/stop if they were running when Bluetooth connects/disconnects. You can also usually get it going if the app was running and it did not start on its own if you use the track skip/repeat switch. Unfortunately though, sometimes it is unavoidable that you will need to take your phone out of your pocket. This has not been an issue for me as I usually have my phone in a vent mount on my dashboard anyway (very convenient if you need GPS which will go through your speakers without stopping your music).[ Christopher  Jun 04, 2015 ]
SRC button to BT Audio; then your device will automatically connect when I'm range. Do not connect your device to unit as this will negate Blue Tooth.[ Richard  Jun 04, 2015 ]
The unit will begin to play automatically upon choosing the Bluetooth setting. The device with music on it will play last known setting as far as RANDOM or ALPHABETICAL ORDER or etc.[ Cram  Jun 04, 2015 ]
Didn't affect me. You may have a bad illumination lead and it not getting enough power. I use green and red to match gauge lights and never had a problem check your 12v and accessories wire and run a voltage check. When you turn on your lights the accessory wire should read about 12.4v[ Gary  May 20, 2015 ]
GreetingsI use my iPod classic with the 30 pin cable that came with it. I actually installed the USB cable that came with the radio in the back of the radio, stuck it under the dash, then connect the iPod classic with its cable to that cable. That way I can take the iPod out of the car when I walk.[ Michael  Mar 10, 2015 ]
You can just use standard cables. I have successfully connected an iPad mini and an iPhone 6 with an apple branded lightning cable to this unit.[ JEREMY  Mar 01, 2015 ]
I've never tried both at the same time but have used both on this unit at one time or another. It treats each port like a separate input so I can't imagine it being a problem.[ ANDREW  Feb 27, 2015 ]
Bobby You will be fine using your apple cables directly. I using cheap usb ext cords from the HU retrofitted to my console with no problems. The iPhone charges and transmits info through aftermarket cables w/o a problem[ Kerwin  Feb 27, 2015 ]
You must use the mic included with the unit.[ JOHN  Jan 25, 2015 ]
No the unit does not have a built in mic[ Christopher  Jan 25, 2015 ]
You need to use the included mic[ Maria  Jan 25, 2015 ]
No. The mic is an external wired microphone that you can mount anywhere you see fit![ Kerwin  Jan 25, 2015 ]
You'll need to use the plug in mic.[ JERRY  Jan 25, 2015 ]
Come to think about it, I honestly didn't try it without the mic. In my truck the dash was already taken apart so it wasn't a big deal to run. sorry I couldn't be more help.[ wilburn  Jan 25, 2015 ]
It requires the supplied mic.[ James  Jan 25, 2015 ]
Sorry for the late replyThere is a somewhat clumsy way to pause in app mode or Pandora if selected as source. You have to press the control paddle then scroll to function, then you can select pause, play, stop, repeat or random. It does NOT however, work when Bluetooth audio is selected as the source. Hope this helps.[ RUSS  Dec 06, 2014 ]
The only way to pause is by using the remote[ RYAN  Nov 21, 2014 ]
Yes, you press the "BAND" button to pause.[ NSX  Nov 21, 2014 ]
I wish!!! As a matter of fact, I was looking for this last night. Another thing it needs is a little backup memory. It forgets everything if the power dies for a few seconds. While I'm complaining, it manual tunes WAY TOO FAST. Software update can cure the animation and manual tune rate, but I doubt they every will.[ wilburn  Nov 21, 2014 ]
Hi,Sorry, I bought this deck about five weeks ago and it is still not installed. I've been really jammed up lately with evrything, and really looking forward to installing it.. when I get the chance I'll be trying probably an 8 or 16 GB to see if it can handle them.. If you find out pls let me know.Regards,Eric[ Eric  Aug 18, 2014 ]
I just installed this radio in my "63 Fairlane and it will handle a 32 GB usb drive. I don't have anything bigger than that so I can't say if you can use anything larger. But no issues with the 32 GB.[ Charles  Aug 18, 2014 ]
I checked the manual that came with mine and it did not show a size limit.[ giovani  Aug 17, 2014 ]

Function >> Pause is an option by default. Otherwise devices will have Pause options on them such as media players. Perhaps pause is a trend slowly disappearing. I don't know for certain why it's not readily available. I will admit it's been a long time since I've used pause in any case in a vehicle.[ Cram  Jul 26, 2014 ]
Charles,If I am understanding you correctly, all I use is the pause feature on my device (my BT iPhone). Much easier to access.Glenn[ Glenn R.  Jul 25, 2014 ]
I found that the band key works in pandora pioneer mode (samsung s3[ Tristan  Jul 25, 2014 ]
It seems rather odd to put the Pause function so deep in a menu, but it seems that is the way to do it "correctly." A workaround is to hit the Band button, which I believe switches control between the head unit and the device. Effectively, though, it pauses the music until you push it again. I know this works with an iPod Classic on USB and an iPhone 5s over BT. Hope this helps.[ John  Jul 25, 2014 ]
Although this is my favorite head unit by far! the face is not detachable, it is motorized.[ RYAN  Jul 26, 2014 ]
Faceplate is detachable but once installed we have not removed it! Unit is performing beyond our expectations. Bluetooth phone is indistinguishable from talking on handset.[ GLENN  Jul 23, 2014 ]
Yes but a case for it isn't included.[ JARON  Jul 22, 2014 ]
Not sure. I think so. I'm on the road but will check when I return.[ chris  Jul 21, 2014 ]

Yes it is.[ ARLYN  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes. It detaches the way most Pioneer fold-down faceplate do.[ ANDREW  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes the faceplate is removable.[ JEREMY VAN  Jul 21, 2014 ]
It sure is[ DAVID  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes. I didn't see that it was clear from the marketing either, but it is detachable. I've been very happy with the performance, but some of the functions are buried in menus. There are very few buttons for the amount of functions this has. Be prepared to spend some time with the manual.[ Peter  Jul 21, 2014 ]
yes this unit is a detachable faceplate it also has a beautiful sound cuality... i realy recommended!!!!! its a great unit[ DAVID  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes the faceplate is detachable. The unit does not come with a case for the detachable faceplate so you may want to look into purchasing one separately in order to keep the unit in good condition.[ Donald  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes it is a detachable face late. It comes off easily and snaps right back into place. This is honestly one of the best head units I've ever owned and the face is one of the easiest to get off and on.[ JASON T.  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Yes it does.[ Christopher  Jul 22, 2014 ]
Yes, it has a detachable faceplate.[ JAIME  Jul 21, 2014 ]

Yes the face is detachable. It's a flip down faceplate as well[ Allen  Jul 21, 2014 ]
Hi Ronnie,Yes, this unit does have a detachable faceplate. Also the CD slot is behind the faceplate. This is a really nice unit!Bob[ R  Jul 21, 2014 ]

Ok, now for my input - This actually works as tested in my vehicle, but I will expand a bit more, as it took me quite a while to figure out how to even set the individual Custom 1 and 2 EQ settings. Custom 1 EQ settings can be set and saved for individual input sources. Custom 2 EQ settings apply to ALL sources. To change either Custom 1 or Custom 2 EQ settings, you must first enter the Preset EQ menu (Audio Menu), then select either Custom 1 or Custom 2 depending on which one you want to modify. However, you can't actually change the EQ settings here, it is just a place to select whether you want the preset Custom 1 or 2. Then return to Audio Menu, and select G.EQ. Change the preset Equalizer settings here, according to what you prefer. Even though it does not indicate which one, Custom 1 or 2, you will be editing, it will be whichever one you last selected under Preset EQ. Then you can go back to Audio Menu, select Preset EQ and verify that your changes took place. If you edited Custom 2, it will apply to ALL audio input sources. However, if you edited Custom 1 and you want it to apply to only the source you are currently using, you have to save it. And this is where the manual is so completely lacking in info. You actually have to shut the ignition off while leaving the radio powered on, this will save the individual Custom 1 EQ setting. You can then go through all your audio input sources and edit the Custom 1 EQ settings, saving each source's settings by shutting off the ignition after each edit. The manual does state that some sources share the same Custom 1 EQ settings: If using iPhone - USB, iPod, Pandora & App If using smartphone - BT Audio, Pandora & AppNote: you can only edit Custom 1 and Custom 2, the other preset EQ setting are permanent and cannot be edited. i.e. Powerful, Vocal etc.Chuck[ Charles  Aug 14, 2014 ]
I actually got this answered by Pioneer, but it wasn't easy. After calling their customer service number and getting a busy signal for 2 days straight, I finally got through, only to be told they had shut down for 2 hours so they could all go to training to improve their "customer service experience" I think actually answering the phone would be a good place to start. So, I emailed them, and after a couple days, did get a response, and it did answer my question. here is what Pioneer said: Problems saving the Custom 1 setting. I agree the manual is not clear. Set your Custom 1 EQ setting for a source. Press the return button to exit the menu. Power off the vehicle with the Ignition key turned all the way off. This will lock in the setting to a specific input source. Repeat this process for each source. Sounds like you have read the manual, so I am guessing you know some sources will be tied together.[ Charles  Aug 14, 2014 ]

Guess I should have said I am surprised that it says it wont fit my car and the dimensions are the same for any single-DIM aftermarket unit. Must be a system error by Crutchfield to say it wont fit my car or someone made a mistake![ Mike F.  Jul 28, 2014 ]
It's the same size as all of the other single-DIN aftermarket units. If you're not sure what size you have in your car, call customer service, they are extremely helpful.[ John  Jul 25, 2014 ]

Kind off. There are two buttons next to main knob. These allow you to go up and down thru the presets. Different from what im used to, but functional.[ wilburn  Jan 02, 2014 ]
It's very simple Doug. Everything is loosely based on the main knob. In tuner, seek is left/right. Presets are up and down once set. Track control for iPod and cd are left/right as well. With pause/play being the knob just being pressed[ garrett  Jan 02, 2014 ]
From my guess and logic is one phone at a time, because how would you know the person calling you when whom ever pair bluetooth at the same time? You only hear the phone ring from your car speaker when calling out. When receiving a call as inbound, you hear a sound from your speakers, letting you know someone is calling you. I never tried linking 2 phones pair on the same bluetooth. I will try it out and let you know here as a update.[ MAN KWAN  Dec 20, 2013 ]
