Best. I ever had

LoganD from La Grange, TX on 9/18/2012

I previously had a JL 10W3v3 and it hit hard for a 10 then I bought one of these bad boys and it slaps harder than my friends 15" and it's also under powered. I definitely will be buying another one of these soon. I recommend if your looking at anything in the price range and you don't buy this, we're not friends

Pros: Super loud Best sound quality Easy installation

Cons: Heavy and bulky

Wow, great subs

KC from Bolingbrook, IL on 4/5/2012

These are great subs that show great range in their ability to sound good with any type of music at very loud levels. As far as comparisons go, i'd put them close to Alpine type X's - these sound almost as loud with less power. between the Kicker L5's and L7's - closer to the L7's for volume (but not quite), and better than both for SQ, this is based on the 12's not the 15's. W7's - Powered correctly the w7's do get louder with better SQ, but also would require a lot more power. JBL- About the same as the W12GTi MKII subs in SQ but and loudness. Sundown, DC Audio - Some would complain that for the price comp subs like sundown, dc, etc... blow these out of the water for the price, however, those subs also require massive wattage, huge boxes, and alternator/power upgrades for the car. Don't get me wrong those are great subs, just that any savings on the sub go towards everything else. Sorry I haven't used or installed mtx, or rockford to compared too. FYI here is my set-up info... 05' Hyundai Elantra - big 3 upgrade (did that almost as soon as I bought the car even without a system). No big or extra batteries. alpine pdx m12 2x jl audio 13w6v2's in a sealed enclosure with aprox 2.1 cuft per chamber. alpine pdx f4 jbl p series 6.5" components in front and 6x9's in the back. 5 farad cap kenwood x790 hu

Pros: The sound quality of these subs is great, ported or sealed, small car or big car. Not only do they sound good in various installations, they also play loud. In my sealed box they tend to be loudest around 50ish Hz. I played around and put them in a larger ported box, and they were quite a bit louder, but still had great SQ. I just don't have the trunk space. What made me get these is the combination of SPL, SQ, and the amount of power needed to produce it.

Cons: Well they require a custom box, but should be be expected. Very pricey. The cosmetics aren't great. The foam surround not only is a dust magnet, but looks like it could have been made to look a little prettier at this price point. (No cosmetics star box). One last gripe, although some wouldn't complain is that they tend to image outside the (small) car just as much as inside and tend to set off car alarms. (Sorry everyone).

Lives up to the prestige.

Just got this sub today. Running it in a sealed box with a jl 500/1. Upgraded for sound quality from a Kicker L7 12" and absolutely achieved my goal. Much cleaner, clearer sound. At first a little disappointed with the output level but I figured out the settings on the amp. The L7 might have been a bit louder (not much) but at the level at which it surpassed the 13w6, it plays nothing but smeared bass. The jl stays crystal clear at high volume and the range is awesome. This thing gets low. Dont know whether to credit the amp for that as I was running a RF amp before. It approaches sub-sonic freqs. with a vengance. The higher freqs. are punchy and very tight. Breaking it in for now, can't wait to really stretch it out.

Best SQ Woofer I've Ever Come Across

J from Boston, MA on 5/9/2010

I've always heard that the W7's are the "king" of JL's woofers, but I'm here to tell you the W6v2's are about to steal the crown. I'm all about output, don't get me wrong, but the W6v2's sound so incredible at ANY volume that I've become a true believer. I've owned W3's, W3v2's and W3v3's and nothing ever sounded like this. There's a single 13W6v2 on a 500/1 in my Blazer and the accuracy/tightness of the bass turns even the sloppiest sounding tracks into truly great music. Friend of mine has two 12's on an eD nine.1 and the SQ is still out of the park. Stop thinking and just buy some... best money you'll ever spend!

very nice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

installed 2- jl 13w6v2 in 98 navigator, ported box 3.65 vb per sub, 26.24 sqin. 13.5 in. long per sub, this gives a gross vb of 3.85 per sub which =tuning at 33 hz. nice gain between 33 hz and 50 hz about 3 to 4 db. jls box is alittle small in there spec. and has no gain like this. pounds very hard across the board, plays all music well, well balanced speaker, amp. 1 jl 1000 slash on bass and 1 jl 500 slash on highs, all jl 5x7 in doors. crutchfield is the only place i buy, they are #1 in my book. thanks chip

Max from Houston, TX on 12/5/2008

WOW!!! These subs are the top of the line and the bass they produce is worth every penny. I have two of these bad boys hooked up to a JL1000/1 with a cap and a power cell all with JL cables and wires. My headlights dont dim at all and the bass knocks!!! I would recomend this setup to anyone who has the money to throw at a system. Having only one set of push terminals made wiring easy. I would recoment the subwoofer grills for these subs b/c if you are like me, i like to throw stuff in the back of my tahoe. they dont limit the excursion of the sub at all so they are good. All in all, these are amazing and even BETTER than the w7. They have a good Hz range and can give deep, low bass and at the same time, give responsive, rumbly bass. BUY THESE TODAY!!!!!

Enclosure Compatibility

W-Cone: The JL Audio W6v2 subwoofer utilizes a W-Cone design, a unit-body cone assembly, that delivers astonishing cone stiffness with minimal mass. The shape also provides incredible torsional rigidity, which is critical to maintaining voice coil alignment at the suspension limits. In order to gain maximum stiffness, two lightweight mineral-filled polypropylene skins are bonded together at the perimeter and the center of the assembly. The lower skin's cross-section is shaped like a "W", and provides incredible rigidity when bonded to the dished upper skin.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W6v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Engineered Lead-Wire System: The co-extruded lead wires work in conjunction with critically-engineered entry and exit support structures to achieve flawless high-excursion operation. The flying lead design does not compromise spider linearity or radial stability the way "woven in" lead wire designs do.

Progressive-Roll Spider: The large, progressive-roll spider provides precise control and motor/voice coil alignment without limiting excursion prematurely.

Ventilation: The woofer's large, diffused pole-vent works in conjunction with specifically engineered molded "NeckVents" in the lower cone body to remove hot air from the voice coil gap. This pole vent is located around the JL Audio badge at the rear of the speaker. The elevated frame design of the W6v2 delivers high-velocity air flow through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Note: A minimum distance of 3/4" is required between the back of the speaker and any wall of the enclosure to allow proper operation of the pole vent.

Terminal Jumper System: The W6v2 features dual voice coils with a single set of spring-loaded push terminals and the Terminal Jumper System. The Terminal Jumper System consists of four voice coil configuration tab terminals, located behind the push terminals, that are used to interconnect the dual voice coils in one of two ways--series or parallel. The system comes from the factory with two jumpers configured in a parallel fashion, resulting in a 2-ohm load presented at the speaker terminals. To switch to a series connection, you should use one jumper connected from "VC1-" to "VC2+". The series connection presents an 8-ohm load to the speaker terminals.

Note: Both voice coils must be connected to the amplifier in order for the speaker to perform properly.

Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.
