JL Audio C2650
Evolution™ C2 Series 6-3/4" component speaker system
Item # 136C2650 | MFR # 99617
Our take on the JL Audio C2650 by Crutchfield's Buck Pomerantz
JL Audio's Evolution C2 Series speakers
JL Audio's Evolution C2 Series speakers bring precision sound to your vehicle. They'll reproduce subtle elements of your music like delicate woodwinds or soprano vocals, then turn on a dime to deliver the deep thrum of the bass or thunder of the drums.
Silk tweeter delivers smooth highs
The C2-650 component system features 6-3/4" woofers with rugged polypropylene cones that can handle high power without distortion, so you get full-bodied low tones you can really feel. The separate 3/4" silk dome tweeters serve up smooth-sounding high frequencies that won't tax your ears, adding a satisfying dose of realism to your soundstage.
JL Audio includes surface- and flush-mount hardware so you'll be able to install the tweeters in the best possible location in your vehicle. External crossovers, featuring 3-level tweeter control, make sure your tunes play smoothly across the whole musical spectrum.
Note: JL Audio describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake, we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
Awesome sound. Highs and lows. Great for any kind of music.

Woofers: The JL Audio Evolution C2-650 component speakers feature 6-3/4" injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofers with butyl rubber surround. The woofer has a 1.0" voice coil on a Kapton Former, a flat symmetrical roll spider, and a Ferrite magnet.
Tweeters: The Evolution C2-650 coaxial speakers feature a 0.75" silk dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeter with a damping neodymium magnet. Silk is lightweight and great for high frequency extension and efficiency. It is also designed for durability in the extreme automotive environment. Flush and surface tweeter mounting brackets are included.
|Frame Diameter||Cutout Diameter||Mounting Height||Mounting Depth|
|Surface Mount||1.692"||Screw holes only||0.939"||Screw depth only|
Two-way Crossover System: The C2 component system utilizes a true 2-way crossover system with Mylar capacitors and air-core inductors:
- High Pass: second order (12 dB/octave slope); three tweeter level settings are selectable via jumper pins: +2.0 dB, Reference, and -3.0 dB
- Low Pass: first order (6 dB/octave slope)
Tweeter Protection: The crossover network has an electronic tweeter protection circuit built in; it monitors the current and disconnects the tweeter when it senses and overload. The circuit automatically resets once the overload is removed.
Crossover Wiring: The terminal strip will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.31" wide.
- Width: 3.365"
- Height: 1.445"
- Depth: 4.732" (plus wire)
Connection Note: The C2 component system comes with no speaker wire. Instead, a number of spade connectors and quick slides are included in the hardware pack to be crimped onto speaker wire you provide.
Size Classification Note: Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size speaker as a 6-3/4", while some manufacturers, including JL Audio, call it a 6-1/2". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector for the proper size of speaker for your vehicle.
Power Handling: JL Audio lists two power figures in the manual; 60 watts continuous power handling and recommended amp power 15-100 watts RMS. We've listed the RMS power recommendation in the specs table.

5 questions already asked
Being a music purist I always go slightly overboard on all speaker wire. I used 12 gauge to the woofers and the tweeter, but 14 to 16 gauge is certainly sufficient for the tweeters. [ David Jun 01, 2017 ]
18 [ Thongvanh May 26, 2017 ]
I used 12 gauge for all due to the amount of power and distance I'm running. 14 would probably be sufficient, but I always err to 12. [ Jesse May 26, 2017 ]
Hitting them with about 90 rms fills my Subaru with plenty of sound. Not drowned out by the pair of 12'a I'm pushing with lots of power [ Derek Apr 27, 2017 ]
they get pretty loud when amplafied, super clean crisp sound. great stuff from jl audio. [ Antonio Apr 26, 2017 ]
They get pretty loud. Especially if you have the right amplifier connected into them. [ MAURICE Apr 26, 2017 ]
I have a 4 channel JL audio amp powering mine in a 2015 Tacoma. I have yet to turn it up all the way it gets too loud for my ears to handle. [ Brian Apr 26, 2017 ]
6 answers I'm looking to add these components to a pioneer Avic4100 head unit with peak internal amp of 50 watts with 4 channels. These components require 15-100 RMS watts at 4ohms. Should I add an amp to achieve the best sound or bridge the headunit to increase power? I have rear stock speakers though too. I'm not looking for competition equipment just for a daily driver 2010 Toyota Corolla. [ Andrew Dec 29, 2015 ]
I have an 2015 RAV4 and have theses speakers and 75 watt kicker amp and 51/2 kicker rear speakers and 250watt sub with stock head unit and it sounds great [ RUSSELL Dec 30, 2015 ]
I think you will be quite happy with these speakers without the need for an additional amp or bridging. I am powering these speakers with the internal amp of an Avic Z150-BH head unit, which has similar power specs to the Avic4100. They have a great sound and plenty of volume, as long as you aren't expecting competition spl levels. I would recommend trying them out like this first ... you can always add an amp or bridge later, if you decide you need to. [ Keith Dec 30, 2015 ]
These are sound quality speakers. I have front and rear components amplified with a alpine amp. In a 2015 Toyota Camry. Still not loud enough for me.. But are a very nice set if your not trying to get crazy [ David Dec 30, 2015 ]
I added a 1000 watt 5-channel amp and they sound amazing. I recommend adding the amp. [ Anthony Dec 30, 2015 ]
Hey Andrew in my opinion I would suggest that you put a amp those speakers to get the best sound quality ...I would say abot 60 too 75 watts rms to get the best sound from these..I personally have them on 100 watts rms and my amp is 1/4 the way up and they sound really good..not to say they would sound bed with the head unit but I know from my experience the amp will and more depth to the music.. [ Terrell Wilson Dec 29, 2015 ]
I had best luck and sound running an amp,.... Of course costs a lil more but totally worth it! [ Scott Dec 29, 2015 ]
