Bae caught me bumping

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this sub for a few weeks and I'm very happy with it. It's not a "blow your eardrums out and set off car alarms" subwoofer but it provides a very clean sound that filled out the lacking frequencies in my Subaru legacy's stock radio perfectly. If you're interested in a high quality bump in your trunk instead of a earth shattering noise box, this is your buy. The price is a bit steep but it was a perfect fit and design for what I was looking for. FYI for newbs: This was the first time I've installed aftermarket equipment in my car so I ran into some trouble. I didn't realize my stock head unit didn't have RCA outputs so I couldn't use the wiring kit I originally purchased and had to hard-wire the thing in which added a couple more hours but other than that the I stall went super easy.

Pros: Extreme quality sound and good design

Cons: Maybe the price, but to me it was worth it

JL loaded box just what my factory system needed

Mmmrodge from MA on 3/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I added this loaded powered box to my 2014 Lexus IS350 Fsport non-Mark Levinson stock system. I had to add an LOC since the Lexus system cuts the bass when you turn the volume up. Set this up and tuned it to my listening pleasure. Woke the factory system up, this is the way it should come. Added the remote bass control for the JL amp for fine tuning on selecting how much bass I want depending on type of music or mood I am in. Also added protective grill to prevent any damage to the front of the sub. Sleek, slim and fits nicely in the back corner losing little space.

Pros: Size punch sleek clean.

Cons: Tight screws on amp trim. Should come with remote bass control and grill

Pros: Great sound!

Sweet Little Box

Anonymous from Austin, TX on 7/27/2013

When shopping for a sub, I had a few requirements; ease of use, small, simple, discrete, and punchy. This all-in-one sub met all of my expectations. Considering the lack of trunk space in my BMW 330Ci, this works very nicely and sounds wonderful. I did all the wiring myself, which only took about an hour. I would absolutely recommend this product. If you want just a bit more punch, go with JL's 12" option.

Pros: All-in-one, easy setup, great sound, small footprint, top-of-class quality, robust, great bang for $$$

Cons: Messy cord/wire management, can roll over if not secure (be cognisant of taking corners and (trust me) don't go to the track with it), can get hot (make sure it can "breathe"), needs a speaker grill

JL 10" powered sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have always been in heavy favor of JL Audio products. Up to this point, they where hands down the best and still are in many aspects. The other reviews posted about this item through me way off. Some said that the bass was loud and powerful. I installed this item in the trunk of my Honda Accord and was disappointed after I had adjusted the gain and the lpf. After about three days I decided to return the item and replaced it with the kenwood bass package with two 12's. Now thats a nice package that packs a punch. Sorry JL, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money, plus the cost of wires for installation, I'm going to need more power than that. I still am partial to JL, but this is the first time I was a bit let down by one of their products.

Pros: Convenient all in one package Takes up very little space aesthetically pleasing

Cons: Not very powerful Expensive

this is what you've been missing

BillyB from Tulsa, OK on 5/5/2013

great combo of speaker/box/amp, small enough to fit in any car and looks great, hits hard and accurate, has been in my BMW hatchback for about 1 1/2 years and it's still going strong and I like my music loud.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This box rocks after a quick install I have to say this is one great sub-woofer I could not be happier. I put it in the hatch of a prius and it sounds great even using the speaker level inputs.

Pros: tons of sound from a small package

Cons: no speaker grill but you can buy separate

Excellent for the price

Moif from Durham, NC on 8/7/2012

I bought the JL combo about two years ago. Always a great sub, great range for a smaller size speaker. I did, however, receive a 250W JL amp with the set, not 175w. Don't know if that led to it, but the sub speaker blew out this past month. Heavy, but not careless usage probably just wore the speaker out. Like I said, great combo from a good company. I still recommend it.

Love this little speaker. Adds just enough bass to my little corolla and doesn't take up much space. Actually it is louder than I need!

The Final Piece of the Puzzle

DaveN from Clarkston, MI on 4/26/2012

I have a 2010 Chevy HHR that I bought with the low end sound system. I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer FH-P8000BT deck with the Pioneer GEX-P920XM XM Satellite Radio add-on. It was just what the doctor ordered. However, the factory speakers sounded like garbage so I added Polk Audio DXi650s 6.5" Slim Mount Coaxial Speakers to the front doors and Polk Audio DXi650 6.5"/6.75" Coaxial Speakers in the rear doors. I disconnected the factory tweeters in the A pillar using the Crutchfield provided instructions. I was amazed at how accurate the sound was, especially with acoustic instruments. But the low end was lacking. Enter JL Audio PWM110-JXWXv2. I bought the Autosound 2000 101 Low Frequency Test CD to set the sensitivity of the powered sub per the instruction manual. The voltage readings I got didn't match the manual, but it helped me get the sub in the ballpark, preventing it from being over driven. After driving around for a few days, I have it set so it provides just the right amount of low end punch without getting in the way or being annoying. Listening to jazz fusion and material with a solid bass line or well miked drum kit is amazing. I now have a pair of headphones that I can drive.

Pros: Nice accurate sound with the right amount of frequency and volume controls to get what you want.

Cons: Not as small as I'd like, but it works nicely secured to the tie down hooks in the back of the HHR. Doesn't come with a grill, so I bought one made for the woofer that easily snaps into place.

Great Sub for our TJ Jeep Wrangler

MtnMan24 from Phoenix AZ on 3/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit is mounted on the floor behind the back seat. The speaker faces the rear door and with the optional JL Grill in place, has about 1" of room. The sound is great, a real step up from the under seat sub we previously used. The crew at Crutchfield, as always, was a real help.

Pros: American built, super fit and finish, great sound quality. Crutchfield support.

Cons: No problems

Overview: JL Audio PowerWedge Max subwoofer system combines JL Audio's rugged 10WXv2 subwoofer with a precisely engineered, USA-built MDF enclosure, and a perfectly matched JL Audio JX series amplifier.

Sealed Enclosure
WXv2 Series Woofer
JX Series Amplifier

Sealed Enclosure

Acoustic Suspension Enclosure: The JL Audio PowerWedge Max subwoofer system utilizes a sealed enclosure for tight, accurate, deep bass. CNC machining is used to create precise panel joints that make the enclosure assembly more efficient and exact. The V-groove technique improves assembly efficiency, and also results in a stronger and better sealed enclosure than the typical butt-joint construction. The enclosure features durable, American made automotive grade carpeting and premium JL Audio speaker wiring.

Amp Mounting: The JX series amplifier is mounted to the rear of the PowerWedge Max enclosure and surrounded by an amplifier shroud with a durable black textured finish.

Note: The amplifier shroud must be removed to access the amplifier's connections and controls.

Enclosure Application: This compact enclosure is ideal for a variety of vehicle sizes and feature an angled back panel to allow the subwoofer to fire toward the back of the vehicle with minimal loss of trunk or hatch space.

WXv2 Series Woofer

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is a JL Audio proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the woofer's motor remains linear in motor force over a long excursion range, and maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the 10WXv2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Rear Gasket: The woofer has an integrated foam rear gasket which provides an optimal seal when installing into the enclosure.

Long Excursion: The 10WXv2 subwoofer has 9.5mm of linear excursion, giving you louder bass with less distortion.

Pre-Mounted: The system is packaged with the subwoofer already mounted in the JL Audio PowerWedge Max enclosure.

JX Series Amplifier

Monoblock Class A/B Amplifier: The JL Audio JX250/1 is a class A/B monoblock subwoofer amplifier that has been optimized for low-frequency (10-200 Hz) amplification of the connected subwoofer.

Note: The JX250/1 is not designed for driving full-range speakers, midrange drivers, or tweeters.

MOSFET Switching Power Supply: The JL Audio JX series monoblock amplifier employs a rugged MOSFET power supply for outstanding reliability and operational stability.

Amplifier Ratings:

JX250/1 Amplifier Specifications Ohms Watts Channels Frequency Response Signal-to-Noise THD
Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 14.4V 4 175 1 20-200 Hz 87 dB 1%
Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 12.5V 4 130 1 20-200 Hz 87 dB 1%

High-Mass Heat Sink: A heavy extruded aluminum heat sink is designed to keep the JL Audio JX series amplifier in a comfortable thermal range during demanding operation. This high-mass, extruded heat sink removes heat from the amplifier circuitry, extending high-power operation. This improves reliability and reduces the frequency of thermally related shut-down event.

Protection Circuitry: The JX250/1's protection circuitry automatically shuts the amplifier down if thermal limits are exceeded, a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring, or if low supply voltage limits are reached.

Status Indicator Lights: There are two status indicator lights on the right side of the amplifier:

  • Power (Green): This LED lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
  • Protect (Red): The Protection LED lights Red to indicate the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated to prevent product failure due to thermal overload, a short-circuit, or a dangerously low impedance connected to the amplifier's outputs.

Controls: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier provides the following audio controls:

  • Input Sensitivity: The Input Sensitivity Control is used to match your source unit's output voltage to the input stage of the amplifier for maximum clean output.
    • Low-Level Input Range: 200mV-4V (RMS)
    • High-Level Input Range: 2V-10V (RMS)
  • Low Pass Crossover: The JL Audio JX250/1 monoblock amplifier is equipped with a 12dB/octave Butterworth low-pass filter with variable frequency selection from 50 to 200Hz.
  • Bass Boost: The amplifier is equipped with a variable 0 to +12dB, 45Hz Bass Boost.
  • Remote Level Control: The JX250/1 is equipped with a RJ-25 connection for an optional wired Remote Level Control (136RBC1, sold separately) that allows volume level adjustment of the amplifier from the front of your vehicle.

Connections: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier provides the following connections:

  • Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The monoblock amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections.
    • Power and Ground: The JL Audio amplifier's set-screw Power and Ground connections are designed to accept 8 to 4 AWG power wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.
    • Remote Turn-On: The JL Audio JX series amplifier's set-screw turn-on lead will accept 18 to 8 AWG wire. The same 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connection.
  • Speaker Output Terminals: The JL Audio JX250/1 features four set-screw speaker terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The monoblock amplifier's four set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections. The amplifier's speaker terminals are wired to the loaded woofer from the factory.
  • Preamp Inputs: The monoblock amplifier features one set of stereo RCA input jacks. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for these inputs. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the JX250/1 to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's low-level input can be set between 200mV-4V RMS.
  • Speaker Level Inputs: The JL Audio JX250/1 also accepts speaker level signals, including those from factory systems (without the need for a line-output converter), via the supplied 10" speaker-level harness. The amplifier's high-level input can be set between 2V-10V RMS.
  • Preamp Outputs: The JX250/1 incorporates a pass-through preamp output section, so that additional amplifiers can easily be connected to the same signal(s) feeding the monoblock amplifier. These preamp output signals are buffered to prevent noise and are always preamp level, regardless of the level of signals feeding the amplifier's inputs.

Note: The amplifier shroud must be removed to access the amplifier's connections and controls.

Fuse: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 30-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 30-amps, the original should be replaced with a 30-amp fuse.

Pre-Mounted: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier comes already mounted to the back-panel of the enclosure and wired to the pre-loaded subwoofer.
