A steadfast 12" sub
The PowerWedge MAX PWM112-JXWXv2 powered sub starts with a hard-hitting 12" WXv2 subwoofer, with a rigid polypropylene cone that can push plenty of air for prolific bass output. Extensive venting helps prevent thermal breakdown in the voice coil, so you'll get lasting, consistent performance.

175 watts RMS and an expertly crafted enclosure
Built from industrial-grade 5/8" medium density fiberboard and covered by thick gray carpeting, this sealed enclosure promotes punchy, tight-sounding bass. Mounted on the back of the enclosure, the JX 250/1 mono amplifier features an advanced heat sink to keep the amp cool for strong, stable output. This amp sends 175 watts RMS to the sub for optimal bass power. An optional wired remote lets you control the bass levels from the comfort of your front seat.

Great sound, very sharp and clear and powerful! I suggest taking off the amp and attaching it to the vehicle itself that way if you have a small trunk you can always take the sub and encasing out without the hassle. Besides that it is a very powerful bass box in a small package for its power!

Great sound, very sharp and clear and powerful! I suggest taking off the amp and attaching it to the vehicle itself that way if you have a small trunk you can always take the sub and encasing out without the hassle. Besides that it is a very powerful bass box in a small package for its power!

Pros: Pretty much plug and play Amp can be dettached high quality encasing JL Audio quality which is unbeatable Clear sound powerful ground shaking bass

Cons: If you wanted to take the whole thing out of the trunk for an airport trip or something you would go through thick and thin if you leave the amp attached...

Great sub/box/amp combo. Not the package if you want to rattle the neighbor's house, but excellent if you want rattle the car.

Pros: Crisp output; All-in-one package

Cons: None so far.

Absolutely Beautiful, thank you again JL Audio

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I Just finished installing it a few hours ago, and the only thing I can say is "Beautiful." I've always wanted bass that was tight and accurate, while also being very deep, and now I finally have it. For me, sound quality is much more important than loudness, but this system is easily capable of both. If you're wondering if you should spend the extra $50 for the 12" instead of the 10", DO IT! It's beyond worth it.

Pros: JL Audio = the highest quality. Their subs and amps are the best you can get. Tight AND deep, highly accurate reproduction of low frequency sound. For everything you get in this package, it's an unbeatable value. I spent about four times as much on my previous system, a custom JL setup(2 10W6v2's & JL 500), but I'm happier with this!

Cons: None.

Awesome Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this powered sub in my Cobalt and I have been very happy with this product. I used to have 2 JL audio 12w4s back in the late 90s and this 12 inch doesnt hit you in the stomach as hard but it is just as loud. I get looks around town when I crank it up.

Pros: Professional design and build quality.

Cons: You need to strap it down to your ride or it will move around when driving.

Review for PowerWedge Subwoofer

JL Audio Subwoofer from Harvey, LA on 10/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well, I hate to condemn this speaker, but it only lasted 1 week in my son's truck. We just got the replacement put in a few days ago. We'll see how long this one lasts'. Hopefully it was just a fluke and this one last a long time. We really like the speaker and we know JL Audio has a good rep and puts out a good product.

Pros: Nice sounding speaker cabinet combo, looks and all. Easy installation, using the wiring kit as well.

Cons: Our first experience with this one and it blew within one week

Excellent Buy! You Can't Lose!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I absolutely am VERY PLEASED my NEW SUB! Its a complete buy with SUB & AMP built in BY JL AUDIO themselves so YOU KNOW they made the box precisely to SPEC for OPTIMUM Sound Quality. This BABY THUMPS, BUMPS, SLAMS, & BANGZ in the trunk of my 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Make sure you purchase yourself a nice sexy wiring kit to go along with it. Best of all I bought this sub from Crutchfield in a "used" open box status which saved me $ off the regular MSRP & I couldn't be be more impressed this darn thing was basically if nothing less than "brand new". The sound quality is TIP TOP. It sounds REALLY REALLY Good. You can feel the bass now in my car. I don't even have my sub bass levels set more than 1/2 way on the amp and this baby bumps. I'm letting my sub "break in" some before I tweak the bass levels up higher, just to be safe I guess I'm sure it don't matter. I promise, UNLESS you are some HIGH LEVEL AUDIO ENTHUSIAST, this product right here will SATISFY YOUR NEED FOR A SUB AND AMP, you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Cons: None.

2 Thumbs Up for JL Audio

TKD-KING from Vancouver, BC on 8/26/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reviewing several powered subs online, I quickly realized the PWM112-JXWXv2 PowerWedge 12" was the one for me. I like the powered sub idea because it takes all of the guess work out of pairing a sub, amp and box together. JL Audio is a top-notch company and I had used their products before. This PowerWedge was slightly more expensive than some of the "competition" but I was confident the PWM112-JXWXv2 would out-perform. I went with the 12" over the 10" solely because I had enough space in my trunk, and frankly I was impressed with how space efficient these PowerWedges are. Crutchfield did a great job of providing all of the measurements etc. Setup was pretty easy. I purchased an amp kit from CF previously, so it was basically Plug & Play. You'll need a hex-key to remove the back cover to expose the amp, and another hex key to loosen/tighten the terminals. You might also want to consider leaving the cover off for a couple of days so you can play with the LPF/HPF and Gain settings, because they're not accessible once the cover is back on. Performance was excellent, and it's gotten better over the past two weeks of "breaking it in". Great quality bass for all types of music and I've been surprise that I've had the gain (on my deck) turned down to 3/10 but the PowerWedge still POUNDS. All in all, JL puts together a very clean, tight unit. Having the back cover makes it especially clean/tight, and ordinarily something like that wouldn't be available if you built your own.

Pros: Well built and clean appearance Great quality bass, more than sufficient power for any application.

Cons: Not easy to secure inside trunk Amp settings not accessible with cover on (but cover adds to clean look)

No Contest for Self Powered Sub Package.

Jmoon from PC, FL on 6/13/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hands down no contest for what it is. If you're looking at a drop in bass addition or a little something in a right space, there's no competition here. JL has put a wedge box together with a WXv2 12" sub and JX 250/1 amp. These are full line, high quality JL stand alone stars, put together. The box is on the small side for a JL 12", so some of the lower end notes tend to be choked, especially a higher volumes. But for this market segment, there is no better option!

Pros: Super high quality put together for a one stop shop at a great price point!

Cons: This isn't the pound in your chest, lump in your throught configuration. It can be improved upon with a box change but if you compare with flat under seat subs and Tubes, this thing is laughably better.

Product Research

Overview: JL Audio PowerWedge Max subwoofer system combines JL Audio's rugged 12WXv2 subwoofer with a precisely engineered, USA-built MDF enclosure, and a perfectly matched JL Audio JX series amplifier.

Sealed Enclosure
WXv2 Series Woofer
JX Series Amplifier

Sealed Enclosure

Acoustic Suspension Enclosure: The JL Audio PowerWedge Max subwoofer system utilizes a sealed enclosure for tight, accurate, deep bass. CNC machining is used to create precise panel joints that make the enclosure assembly more efficient and exact. The V-groove technique improves assembly efficiency, and also results in a stronger and better sealed enclosure than the typical butt-joint construction. The enclosure features durable, American made automotive grade carpeting and premium JL Audio speaker wiring.

Amp Mounting: The JX series amplifier is mounted to the rear of the PowerWedge Max enclosure and surrounded by an amplifier shroud with a durable black textured finish.

Note: The amplifier shroud must be removed to access the amplifier's connections and controls.

Enclosure Application: This compact enclosure is ideal for a variety of vehicle sizes and feature an angled back panel to allow the subwoofer to fire toward the back of the vehicle with minimal loss of trunk or hatch space.

WXv2 Series Woofer

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is a JL Audio proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the woofer's motor remains linear in motor force over a long excursion range, and maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the 12WXv2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Rear Gasket: The woofer has an integrated foam rear gasket which provides an optimal seal when installing into the enclosure.

Long Excursion: The 12WXv2 subwoofer has 9.5mm of linear excursion, giving you louder bass with less distortion.

Pre-Mounted: The system is packaged with the subwoofer already mounted in the JL Audio PowerWedge Max enclosure.

JX Series Amplifier

Monoblock Class A/B Amplifier: The JL Audio JX250/1 is a class A/B monoblock subwoofer amplifier that has been optimized for low-frequency (10-200 Hz) amplification of the connected subwoofer.

Note: The JX250/1 is not designed for driving full-range speakers, midrange drivers, or tweeters.

MOSFET Switching Power Supply: The JL Audio JX series monoblock amplifier employs a rugged MOSFET power supply for outstanding reliability and operational stability.

Amplifier Ratings:

JX250/1 Amplifier Specifications Ohms Watts Channels Frequency Response Signal-to-Noise THD
Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 14.4V 4 175 1 20-200 Hz 87 dB 1%
Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 12.5V 4 130 1 20-200 Hz 87 dB 1%

High-Mass Heat Sink: A heavy extruded aluminum heat sink is designed to keep the JL Audio JX series amplifier in a comfortable thermal range during demanding operation. This high-mass, extruded heat sink removes heat from the amplifier circuitry, extending high-power operation. This improves reliability and reduces the frequency of thermally related shut-down event.

Protection Circuitry: The JX250/1's protection circuitry automatically shuts the amplifier down if thermal limits are exceeded, a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring, or if low supply voltage limits are reached.

Status Indicator Lights: There are two status indicator lights on the right side of the amplifier:

  • Power (Green): This LED lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
  • Protect (Red): The Protection LED lights Red to indicate the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated to prevent product failure due to thermal overload, a short-circuit, or a dangerously low impedance connected to the amplifier's outputs.

Controls: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier provides the following audio controls:

  • Input Sensitivity: The Input Sensitivity Control is used to match your source unit's output voltage to the input stage of the amplifier for maximum clean output.
    • Low-Level Input Range: 200mV-4V (RMS)
    • High-Level Input Range: 2V-10V (RMS)
  • Low Pass Crossover: The JL Audio JX250/1 monoblock amplifier is equipped with a 12dB/octave Butterworth low-pass filter with variable frequency selection from 50 to 200Hz.
  • Bass Boost: The amplifier is equipped with a variable 0 to +12dB, 45Hz Bass Boost.
  • Remote Level Control: The JX250/1 is equipped with a RJ-25 connection for an optional wired Remote Level Control (136RBC1, sold separately) that allows volume level adjustment of the amplifier from the front of your vehicle.

Connections: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier provides the following connections:

  • Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The monoblock amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections.
    • Power and Ground: The JL Audio amplifier's set-screw Power and Ground connections are designed to accept 8 to 4 AWG power wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.
    • Remote Turn-On: The JL Audio JX series amplifier's set-screw turn-on lead will accept 18 to 8 AWG wire. The same 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connection.
  • Speaker Output Terminals: The JL Audio JX250/1 features four set-screw speaker terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The monoblock amplifier's four set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections. The amplifier's speaker terminals are wired to the loaded woofer from the factory.
  • Preamp Inputs: The monoblock amplifier features one set of stereo RCA input jacks. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for these inputs. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the JX250/1 to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's low-level input can be set between 200mV-4V RMS.
  • Speaker Level Inputs: The JL Audio JX250/1 also accepts speaker level signals, including those from factory systems (without the need for a line-output converter), via the supplied 10" speaker-level harness. The amplifier's high-level input can be set between 2V-10V RMS.
  • Preamp Outputs: The JX250/1 incorporates a pass-through preamp output section, so that additional amplifiers can easily be connected to the same signal(s) feeding the monoblock amplifier. These preamp output signals are buffered to prevent noise and are always preamp level, regardless of the level of signals feeding the amplifier's inputs.

Note: The amplifier shroud must be removed to access the amplifier's connections and controls.

Fuse: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 30-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 30-amps, the original should be replaced with a 30-amp fuse.

Pre-Mounted: The JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier comes already mounted to the back-panel of the enclosure and wired to the pre-loaded subwoofer.
