Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using Crutchfield and JL audio products for about 10 years. I use and recommend JL Audio in all my cars. This enclosed sub came directly from JL audio. Very easy to set up and use. The sound quality and customer service is why I always use JL audio. I love this model because of the space saving box and design, but no sacrifice in sound.

Pros: Quality, Sound, space saving design, and easy set up. Also free and fast shipping!

Cons: Price and lack of eye appeal

Compact, but with huge impact...

VO from FL on 2/23/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the 2nd JL Audio 10" sub in a PowerWedge enclosure I've bought over the years. I've paired it with a JL Audio 500/1 amp and an Alpine head unit. The bass is very tight and well-controlled. I wanted a sub that is able to go deep with volume, but keeps the mid bass appropriately tight for the chest slam. I play a variety of music (jazz, classical, hiphop, rap, new age, alternative, top 40) and this sub does justice to music of all genres I've played so far. Construction and finish are excellent and the unit overall is solid.

Pros: Excellent bass delivery Tight midbass Subterrean lows Well-controlled

Cons: Somewhat heavy Sensitive to tuning; setting the Q on your sub amp is well worth doing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great Subwoofer System! I bought it, and then I installed it with a 500W RMS Single Channel Subwoofer AMP. Now my car sounds real good when I play Ice Cube. I installed a switch so I can turn it off when I listen to NPR. Now Terry Gross AND Ice Cube sound great. Prairie Home Companion sounds ok.

Pros: Sounds great, Looks great, Installation was great, and my girl likes it.

Cons: None, like I said before, it's great!

Thumps - with precision

Dave from Florida on 8/16/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start by saying I had a ported 10" MMATS sub prior to this - which ended up dying on me. That thing thumped, but the SQ was a bit muddy for my taste. I like the thump, but SQ is equally important if not more. I replaced it with this and was worried it would be to quite and not be able to handle my JL 600/1 AMP (this sub is rated at 500RMS). Boy was I wrong! This thing is half the size and 90% of the THUMP my last ported box/speaker combo! It's amazing... And it's way less 'muddy', way more precise than the other. Oh, and I have trunk space now in my WRX sedan. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Big thump. Precise. Small package. First perfect in in the trunk of sedan.

Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Small and powerful

Great package! The box is beautiful and the sub is great. I have it installed in a 14 GTI and it fast response in a smaller car it perfect for bring out the bass of any type of music, I listen to rock and contemporary rock and it works great.

Pros: Size vs sound

Cons: None

Fantastic Sub!

JSonic from Northern VA on 6/4/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Super impressed. This is my first JL Sub and I couldn't be more pleased. I choose the sealed sub for a tighter and more accurate bass and glad I did so. While the sub isn't a head turner, it performs well for all genres and has exceeded my expectations. Even with the sub installed in the trunk on my Volvo S60 T5, I typically run the sub at half power and find a good integration of low and mid range bass. Be prepared to install sound dampening because with low end frequencies it will rattle the most tightly built cars. Absolutely worth the price! Just be sure to adequately or even over power the sub!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Exceeded expectations

Jesse from Springfield, MO on 5/25/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a large sedan (whit a big trunk) and keep the windows up. I listen to alternative/indie rock at relatively normal volume levels. I wanted to add depth an fullness to my driving experience, and adding this sub exceeded my expectations. I have it paired with a JX500/1D with the low pass filter fq. set at 125Hz. It looks great too, and is surprisingly small and compact for what it delivers.

Pros: Compact, clear.... perfect for someone who wants great sounding music. I here bass elements that I never heard before.

Cons: None. Its hard to make a choice on a subwoofer with so many conflicting opinions about out there. For my application, this thing is perfect

Great Speaker in a Small Package

Colin from Aiea HI on 3/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was upgrading an old system and in the process downsizing from an Alpine Type-R 12" in a large ported box. I decided a sealed 10" sub is what I needed for my current needs. After initially trying a Kicker box and returning it, I gave this JL Audio enclosure a shot. I could not be more pleased. This 10" hits just as deep as my 12" and takes up 1/3 the space in the trunk. Sure it does not hit as hard, but it has excellent quality and it still pretty loud. I am pushing it with an old Polk MOMO 500.1 rated at 550W at 2 ohms and it really puts out some serious volume. I have read some reviews staying to stay away from sealed boxes and go with a ported one for this driver, but for my needs, this thing is perfect. I would recommend it to anyone who wants good bass with sound quality and also some space restrictions.

Pros: Well-built, small form factor, great sound for a 10" sub

Cons: None. It costs more than other subs, but you get what you pay for.

just what I wanted out of a JL 10"

Coop805 from Santa Barbara on 2/25/2014

I ordered this sub/box combo for my truck. I wanted a 10" for the responsiveness and clean punchy base. This sub gave me that for sure, just make sure you give it the wattage that it wants. I paired it up with the Rockford 500/1D and It pounds out some sick base for a 10" i was definitely impressed. Its not going to set off car alarms in parking garages or rattle your rearview mirror off, but it gives good clean punchy bass! In my last jeep I had 2 Polk DB 12s and i enjoy my bass. but for my tacoma access cab this sub is perfect. I wouldnt go putting in a car trunk or a bigger car or SUV though. but for an extra cab truck its legit!. hope this helps!

Pros: -Compact, not too deep of an enclosure but still meets sub specs -looks Good, clean box and JL logo on top shows off the brand. -Good bang for your buck, seriously

Cons: Nothing its a great sub,

SteveB from Fitchburg, MA on 2/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was hoping for more bang for my buck. Powered with 500W from an Alpine PDX-V9 amp that delivers 100W to each of the other 4 speakers, it simply doesn't have the kick I was hoping for. May try selling this and replacing it with a 12"

Pros: OK range

Cons: Would like more beef

Great Punch.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Sub. Size factor was important and this fit the bill. I had a double 12" Sub which just filled the entire trunk, so this fit perfect. It was a little $$ but you get what you pay for. Build quality BTW is outstanding, looks great.

Pros: Size, shape, looks, solid hitting bass.

Cons: Price.

JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3

Mark from Indianapolis, IN on 1/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great sub and box combo. My first JL purchase but definitely not my last. In the past I have always had 12 inch, sealed subs from Alpine or Rockford. This 10 inch sub equals the low frequencies from past subwoofers and is much more punchy and musical. I am using an Alpine MRX V70 that is rated around 350 watts at 2 ohms and it is paired with Infinity Kappa components in the front and coaxials in the back of a 2014 Mazda6. The sub pairs perfectly with the Kappas. If you are looking for punchy, accurate bass this is the perfect sub.

Pros: Pounds with tight, punchy bass. Surprisingly small enclosure. Looks great.

Cons: None so far.

Worth every penny

B from Kansas City, MO on 9/12/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this is my first JL sub. prior to this I was using 2 12 lanzars. Using the same old Memphis amp, I can instantly tell a difference in this ONE 10 JL. it hits the low lows, its small and compact, and to me it hits harder then the 12s ever did. YES I did have the prior subs wired correctly, and YES I realize that all the power is now bridged to 1 sub so my amp is actually getting used like it should. but needless to say, this tiny package is impressive. people on here have posted it not being loud, blah blah, and yeah, its not going to blow women's clothes off, its ONE 10inch sub in a small sealed box. The point is, you get a LOT of boom from a small package at a reasonable price. I don't regret this purchase. fits nice, 2013 Subaru WRX Hatchback

Pros: Small and compact, packs a punch, hits the lows

Cons: could use a nicer grill, no black carpet option

Tight clean bass

I have a pontiac G8. I installed this subwoofer with a JL audio XD700/5 amp. Nice clean tight bass. I am an audiophile and if thats the quality of sound you are looking for . Check this product . Crutchfield has the best customer care among online stores.

Pros: Pricy

Cons: Expensive

I bought this Sub for my Chevy truck . I have a regular cab so I needed a Sub that would fit and this Sub is great! it has awesome bass and it has performed flawlessly for three years. Like all JL equipment its top Quality!

Pros: great bass sound , 3 years so far no problems

Cons: none

another overrated, overpriced jl product

kevlar from philly burbs on 12/3/2012

This sub enclosure was installed in a super cab ranger with the hopes of some solid low end. Unfortunately i'm still disappointed 3.5 yrs later. The cab of a ranger is a small space and i thought this sub would be plenty with all the glowing reviews. I powered this sub with an older eclipse "made in usa" amp delivering 400 watts rms. thinking maybe the amp seen better days i purchased a rockford p325.2 from crutchfield with the same so so results. I decided to put my 15 year old bazooka bass tube back in and it sounds just as good if not better.

Pros: excellent build quality, nice looking box. it still works after 3.5 years. high resale value for jl audio products on craigslist

Cons: too much cash for not enough sound

Jon from Apple valley, ca on 10/25/2012

Audiophile quality. With the perfectly matched box and a standout driver, you really can't go wrong. Sound is superb. Gets loud if u want it that way... Jl is top shelf, you'll know why once u have one. Doesn't need a grip of power. Blends well with any system..

Pros: Sound quality, looks great, perfect

Cons: Price is steep for a single driver, but you get what you pay for.

Tight Bass

Morgan12 from Ellington, CT on 9/2/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very nice sounding sub. Powered by a Boston Acoustics GTA-400m, it delivers just the right amount of thump in my 4Runner. The tight bass is exactly what my system was missing. Before purchasing this sub I considered the Stealthbox, but decided to go with the PowerWedge due to the price and portability. This is my first JL Audio purchase and now I understand what all the hype is about.

Pros: Powerful, tight bass, portability

Cons: None

Pounds hard

Jim M. from Hazen, ND on 4/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub pounds hard. I powered it the an MTX 150W amp. Sounds great in my boat. I am upgrading the amp to a JL m700/5, which I imagine will help immensely. I used to have 2 Rockford 12" subs in my old car from 1995 or so. This one little sub made those sound like a pair of 6x9's.

Great sub but not for big trunks

Derick from Dallas, TX on 11/4/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had JL subs in the past and I trust their products. I put this sub in a '09 Dodge Challenger. I think the trunk is just too big for 1-10" sub. You can really hear and feel the bass with the seat folded down. But with it up, it's almost the difference between night and day. You almost can not hear any bass. If you're going to install in a hatchback or smaller vehicle, I think you'd be very happy with this sub. And as stated in other reviews, if you're wanting something that is going to punch you in the chest and turn heads, this is not the sub.

Pros: The sub puts out great sound and takes up little space.

Cons: I can't hear the bass unless the seats are folded down.

Sean from Seattle, WA on 9/4/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub exceeded my expectations! I'm used to having a sub directly behid me in a truck and really feeling the bass. I recently bought a Subaru Outback and was okay with having a little less pound. I powered the sub with an 800watt Pioneer amp (360 RMS... which isn't pushing the sub to it's full potential!). I was pretty impressed with how much sound this put out- it is clean bass even at high volumes... it is also very tight, and I could still feel it like it was right behind the seat! I would recommend this sub to anyone, haven't heard anything that compares in this price range. My past experience was with MTX, Kicker, Rockford, Kenwood, and Pioneer. None compare to the JL.

Very Nice Sub

Ben from 757, Virginia on 7/26/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great sub for those not looking to have everyone at the stoplight hating them. It is not in a ported box so don't expect a boomy sub. This thing provides amazing tight, punchy bass that was exactly like what I was looking for. I have it hooked up to a 500w RMS @ 2ohm mono amp and it sounds great. I really give this thing a workout too, listening to lots of metal with long, fast double bass rolls. It keeps up suprisingly well, and sounds better every day. If you're looking for a sub/enclosure combo that will add great sounding, tight bass to fill out your system, this a great choice.

Will not satisfy your desires

CMO from Virginia on 5/22/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perhaps my expectations for this sub were too high. I have a Nissan Sentra and read a review of an Acura TL saying he could hear this sub pounding in his trunk. I hoped to get the same results. I have all CEA-2006 compliant equipment and true to gauge wiring (8 gauge power wire, 500W rms mono amp @ 2 ohms, 10 gauge twisted speaker wire). This sub sounds very good when you turn the battery on and are just sitting there. It really does pound. But when you get on the express-way and are going 65 mph with the windows down.. you cannot hear the sub any more, and it does not hit you in the chest either. I returned for a 10" Kicker Solo L5 sub (2 ohm load) in a pre-fab ported box (slanted truck style box). This sub crushes the 10" W3. The W3 moves 75 sq inches, the L5 moves 100.. No replacement for displacement! The port also helps. The sound quality is exactly the same, do not believe bad reviews of square subs from kicker just being sloppy-loud subs. The 10" L5 looks great, actually POUNDS you in your seat at hwy speeds, takes up 1" less in bottom depth, and is cheaper in price.

curt from aurora il on 4/7/2011

Worth every penny. This thing pounds. More then enough for the wife to hear when im getting home from work. sounds like you got two 10's pounding away. very nice system. JL has always been the best.

DocD from Tampa, Florida on 11/18/2010

I bought this used the other day and hooked it up to an Alpine 2-Ch amp. RMS output is rated at 130 Watts bridged for the amp. The guy who installed the amp/sub said it slammed and that the amp had to be pushing way more wattage than its rated or this was the best sub/box combo he's ever heard.

JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3

Anonymous from Austin, TX on 7/30/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm almost 40 and have had a sub in every vehicle I have owned. This one went into a 2009 Acura TL with the "upgraded" factory system. I tried to get by with the 8" factory free air sub, but there is NO comparison. The sound quality is amazing and it can get WAY louder than what I need during a regular commute when I want to crank it, but it remains clean and punchy. I listen to classic rock, country, XM radio bluesville, some alternative, and sometimes R&B/dance stuff like the Black Eyed Peas. On rock and country, the bass guitar is clear and defined, and you can feel the kick drum. Dance music sounds like a club on wheels. This box fits perfectly in the middle of my truck against the back seats, takes up almost zero truck space. I paired it with the JL 250/1v2 amp, and added a remote bass knob. It is more than enough for my TL. I am extremely satisfied. This is the best sub I have ever heard.

JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3

Derick from Albuquerque, NM on 1/19/2010

Very pleased with this product, I listen to ALL types of music and this sub complements all of them. I have an Alpine MRP-M500 pushing it, very clean and solid bass you can feel!!! I would recommend this product to anyone who has limited space and wants clear pounding bass!!! This is my first JL sub and I very pleased.

Perfect choice for quality sound at any volume!

Jesse from Tucson, AZ on 10/1/2009

I've been a fan of JL Audio for many years. I used to go to IASCA competitions and every audio gathering there was, ten years ago. So when I was ready to get into it again I went right to JL knowing they have amazing sound quality and can handle abuse. I did some research starting with the W0 that are getting phased out to the W7 line. I chose the W3v3 because Im extreamly picky about sound quality at all volumes, and I chose the 10" for space. It fits PERFECTLY in my hatchback. I wanted a speaker that has amazing quality even when its so loud you cant hear yourself yell. I didn't think Id need anything more than the W3v3 because I wont be compeating. This sub will produce very sharp snappy bass and can rumble the low notes too. If you want very high quality and volume at the same time this is your set up. For those that want to know Im useing the Clarion 1550 amp thats on sale now which is over powering it but I have it turned down, way down. I chose it so I could add more subs later or upgrade to the 6 or 7 series if I did decide to go into competition again.

Sounds great!!!

Dennis from Stroudsburg, PA on 7/14/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this sub, I did not want that real sloppy bass you hear all the time, I wanted clean punchy bass for drums and such that you can feel, this does it. I dont even turn the bass boost up for hard hitting type bass. I paired it up with the MTX 1000XD running 500w at 4 ohms with 4 ga rockford fosgate amp install kit and 10 ga speaker wire. Was worth every penny for the pair, very very clean bass.

loved this sub

96CMRO_2_06X from virginia on 10/9/2008

I had this sub installed into my 96 Camaro with a stealth box powered by a Kicker 08ZX750.1 and lemme tell you, my friend had a set up of two rockford fosgate punch 12" subs powered by a JL sub, im not sure which, and it put out good sound but my set up blew his out of the water it was the combination of the car acoustics with the open trunk to the car and the power and strength of the sub all together, my car was already a head turner but once i had this installed i was turning even more heads setting off car alarms in beach parking garages and of course getting pulled over.. haha i would recommend, if you are going to get this sub to get a decent amp to supply it some good power, you dont need two 12" subs just one 10" w3v3 i assure you, if you do it right you will not be let down by this product

JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3

Jim from NJ on 9/25/2008

I picked one of these up a little less than a Year ago, right when they changed from 10w3v2 to 10w3v3, and I have been quite impressed. I have it in a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and Im powering it with a now "Obsolete" JL A1400 Amp. Running at 4ohms, its getting 320watts RMS @14.4 volts (basic standard for rating amps). Perfect match of power for this sub. The amp was set up by a professional/JL Authorized Installer and it really puts out. Quite surprising for a single 10 in a sealed box. This sub delivers tight clean bass, which is great. Yeah, its kinda spendy for a single 10 but it definitely sounds better then lower end stuff. The quality and construction is great. They don't use one of those cheap foam rubber surrounds, its real rubber so it wont deteriorate too soon. And its made in the USA If your looking to be heard from blocks away, go for a 12 in a ported box. This sub has TONS of bass for inside a car, It can definitely get loud enough to have to yell to communicate with somebody else in the car. If I fold the seats down and fire it directly into the listening area and roll the windows down, you can definitely hear this thing hit from outside the car. Best way to explain it is that you wont FEEL this walking down the street when I drive by, but youll hear it if I want you to. Has clean tight bass that doesnt bleed and Has an impressive range. Highly recommended, got two other people hooked on this same sub for their cars.

Product Research

Overview: This JL Audio PowerWedge subwoofer enclosure is designed around JL Audio's W3v3 subwoofer, delivering tight, powerful bass with enhanced power handling capabilities. The PowerWedge enclosure is properly sized and tuned for the mounted 10" JL Audio W3v3-2 2-ohm woofer.

PowerWedge Enclosure: The PowerWedge enclosure features solid V-groove MDF construction with internal bracing to ensure structural integrity. The subwoofer enclosure features an angled back design to help save space in the cargo area of your vehicle. The W3v3 PowerWedge enclosure is finished in high-grade automotive gray carpet and features a steel-mesh grille to protect the loaded JL Audio W3v3-2 woofer. The JL Audio PowerWedge enclosure features a pair of gold-plated 5-way binding posts on the left side of the box. The JL Audio subwoofer enclosure has a installation depth of 11.25".

10" W3v3 Woofer: The JL Audio PowerWedge subwoofer enclosure features a mounted, front-firing 2-ohm 10" JL Audio W3v3-series woofer:

  • Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W3v3 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
  • Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
  • Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC): The Vented Reinforcement Collar is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability. By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weaknesses. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes. the VRC also feature slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings to reduce thermal compression effects and enhances reliability.
  • Spider/Lead Wire Assembly: The W3v3 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. The spider is insert-molded into a composite carrier tray which also incorporates the terminal assembly and lead wire strain relief features for enhanced reliability and optimal alignment of parts. The flying lead wires are carefully controlled and strain-relieved without resorting to woven-in lead wires, which can degrade spider performance.
  • Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the W3v3 delivers high-velocity air flow through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
  • Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radiused feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.
