Each JL Audio XD amp packs a wallop far beyond what you'd expect from something so small. This super-compact amp plays your music with true fidelity and impressive impact, without straining your car's electrical system. A cast alloy heatsink and an advanced cooling system keep these amps at optimal temperature, eliminating thermal shut-downs so your music keeps going strong without interruption.

You can set up the versatile XD600/6 6-channel amp for just about any system. It can deliver 75 watts RMS per channel to 3 pairs of speakers, or drive a full set of separate tweeters and woofers with four of its channels while powering a sub with the other two. You can even bridge four channels to power a couple of subs with 200 watts each, while leaving two channels to run your front speakers. High- and low-pass filters on every channel give you intimate control over the character of your sound.

"Differential-balanced" inputs keep the signals clear of outside noise, and allow you to connect this amp to just about any in-dash stereo, even a factory radio with no preamp outputs. An optional wired remote lets you tweak the level from your front seat.

Perfect addition to 2012 CR-V EX

Jepalan from Sioux Falls, SD on 7/11/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy with this amp. Very clean, dynamic, and loud. I installed the XD600/6 under the passenger seat in my 2012 CR-V EX. The factory radio feeds a CL441DSP Cleansweep which feeds the XD600/6. I have Polk DXi6500 components in front and rear doors. I am bridging the last two channels into a Rockford Fosgate 10" Prime sub.

Pros: Super small footprint. No noise at all. Super loud and clean.

Cons: None

simple and reliable, must have

Fantastic Amp!

SoulMan76 from Poconos on 8/29/2012

There's probably not much I can say that hasn't been said in the other reviews, but I'll give you my take on this amp. I have done plenty of car audio over the last 18-20 years, and I know enough to do just about any kind mobile install, except maybe alarms. I will say that it has been a few years since I've done any kind if mobile install, so maybe there are alot of amps like this one out there and I just don't know it. I doubt that is the case, but hey you never know. I'm using this to drive 2 sets of JL C2 coaxials (changing one set to C5 components within the week) and a JL 12" sub. I know it's been awhile but I just can't remember ever seeing any amp as efficient, cool running, small, clean sounding as these JL XD amps. They simply amaze me. I guess I remember older A/B style amps, that always took up alot of room, ran burning hot when you pushed them, and if you weren't using the brands top of the line amp, you'd sometimes get a not so clean sound. This amp does everything I could want in such a small, easy to install package. These amps would have no problem fitting in tight spaces like under or behind a seat, or in a factory amp location. It takes direct from speaker level to rca inputs, so no need for a LOC. I know there are a few brands out there that make amps very similar, I can't speak for them as I haven't used them, but IMO these JL amps are fantastic and should definitely be on your short list for amps.

Pros: Small, Cool running, Clean sounding, Powerful, Well Made

Cons: Not exactly cheap

nice all in one

i have this running 4 pioneer d series 6 3/4 woofers with 1 1/8 tweets along with my jl w3 8 stealthbox in 05 f150 extended cab, with the amp behind rear seat and sub under it. Wow the amp more then enough power- doesn't hog power from my other accessories. This is a prime budget audio system. Thanks crutchfield for the excellence in products and service.

Awesome single amplifier solution

BigD from Scottsbluff, NE on 1/11/2011

I was looking for a good, high quality stereo system in my 2010 F-150. We used a PAC line converter to convert the channels out of my factory head unit into low voltage RCA connections. The PAC unit also provides a remote turn on for your amp. I am using the 600/6 in 5 channel mode to push 4 Kicker KS680 coaxial speakers in my doors and a S-Class 12" sub under the rear seat. This amp pushes the sub admirably, and actually is capable of pushing a lot more speaker than the KS680. I am impressed with the clarity and power of this amp, especially considering its diminutive size. What I have is a stereo system with the volume and clarity that I desired, but it is all tucked away and my truck appears completely stock until I crank the volume.

This is an excellent amp i installed it in a 2006 Lexus RX 330.......C2 components in the front and C2 coax in the back, a sealed JL sub getting the power from channels 5 & 6.....let me tell sounds sweet!!!!!!!!

JL Does it Again!

Bill from Florida on 11/2/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent clarity. The ease of installation was a pleasure. JL's commitment to quality is apparent. I replaced an Alpine 200W amp with one of these - soooo glad I did! Actually, I was so impressed with it, I bought another 2 weeks later for the other vehicle. First one installed in a 2010 Tundra Double Cab under the rear passenger seat, just in front of the bottle jack - perfect fit. Also replaced all factory speakers with JL TR series before I bought the amp, Alpine amp did okay, but no contest here folks. Second amp installed in a 2010 Nissan Altima in the trunk. You just can't go wrong.

Great Power, Great Size.

Kevin from Mesa, AZ. on 6/19/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first JL product and I must say I am amazed. I purchased it for a rather small system running 9 speakers (4 Polk tweeters, 2 - 4" Polk mids, 2 - 6" Polk mid base, and 1 - 6.5" JL sub) in my 2001 Chevy Silverado. It worked great! Pros: 1) Great power and versatility to hook up many configurations of speakers. When I want to be heard we pull out the 6.5" sub and put in a 12". 2) Size was very small for this amount of power. Its small size allowed me to hook it up under the rear seat in my extended cab truck, keeping it out of sight and still leaving room for my tools. 3) Very little to no turn on thump. 4) Runs all my speakers with plenty of power, and sounds GREAT! Very CLEAN. And it doesn't get very hot. It does get warm but not hot. 5) Easy to set up and tune. But I would recommend that you read the manual if you don't have experience doing this. Cons: 1) This is the only con I can think of. The mounting holes in the amp are very small and have a plastic ring in them. I easily removed the rings and mounted the amp without them. But even without these rings I could only use very small bolts (about 5mm if I remember correctly). I would like to see larger holes to use a bit larger bolts for mounting. If you are thinking about this amp, don't hesitate. I don't think you will be sorry. I have had mine in my truck for about 3 weeks now and I love it. I would buy JL again without a second thought. Best amp I have owned to date!

I'm amazed!

David from Akron, OH on 5/21/2010

After researching multi-channel amps, I stumbled over these new diminutive devices. I never owned a JL before but they have an good reputation so I thought I would try it - no risk on my part by purchasing from Crutchfield. I have it playing in a 5-channel mode, powering my front stage, rear-fill and a single sub. It sounds very good, stays cool considering I have it mounted in a tight little space and it is built extremely sturdy. My expectations are exceed and the size just amazes me.

Exactly what I was looking for

Brodie from New Orleans, La on 4/18/2010

I have a crew cab 2009 Silverado with basic factory radio. My intial plan was to change the reciever, put a small 4 channel amp and a small powered sub. I was not looking to blow the back glass off and just wanted a nice sounding package. After some research, (thanks to crutchfields great web site) I found that changing the factory radio with onstar and steering wheel controls was not going to be fun. So I decided to go with this JL xd600/6 amp, factory speakers, factory radio, line output adapters, and a JL 8"sub with their 3 ported box. WOW!! This sounds great, not rattling the bolt loose on my truck, but unbelievable clean, sharp, full sound. So far (2 days), this is exactly what I wanted for loud, clean, nice sounding system without blowing my doors off.

6-Channel Full-Range Amplifier: The JL Audio XD600/6 is a six-channel, Class-D amplifier utilizing NexD ultra-high speed switching technology to deliver outstanding fidelity and efficiency. The XD600/6 can be operated with a wide variety of source units and system configuration.

Amplifier Rating: The JL Audio XD600/6 Class D amplifier is rated at 75 Watts RMS x 6-channels in 4-ohm at 20 to 20,000Hz with a signal-to-noise-ratio of 104 dB and a total harmonic distortion of 1% while receiving 14.4 Volts.

NexD Class D Technology: NexD is a state-of-the-art switching amplifier design that combines exceptional audio quality with excellent efficiency and less complexity. This results in an affordable compact amplification with exceptional audio quality and unsurpassed total efficiency.

Advanced Rollback Protection: The XD-Series amplifiers employ advanced thermal and low-impedance protection to virtually eliminate annoying amplifier shut-down events. Should any XD-Series amplifier ever overheat, its intelligent, unregulated power supply reacts by limiting available peak voltage until the amplifier returns to a safe temperature range. Likewise, if an impedance lower than optimal for the amplifier is present at the outputs, the XD amplifier will roll back peak voltage to protect itself without shutting down.

Differential-Balanced Inputs: The JL Audio amplifier features differential-balanced input architecture to effectively control noise and ensure compatibility with a wide variety of source units, including many OEM systems. Without resorting to line output converters, you can directly connect most OEM source units to the JL Audio amplifier without creating any noise or compatibility issues. Unlike conventional single-ended inputs, the differential-balanced design does not connect one side of the audio signal to chassis ground. This eliminates any voltage sensitivity between one input terminal and ground and greatly reduces the incidence of alternator whine in a typical car audio installation.

Note: You will need three speaker wire to RCA adaptors (136XDCLR2S, sold separately) to connect this amplifier to your headunit via speaker-level.

Protection Circuitry With Status Indicator Lights: There is a single multi-color LED on the top panel of the amplifier to indicate the amplifier's operating status.

  • Flashing Green: When the LED is flashing green, the amplifier is powering up and audio output is muted.
  • Constant Green: This LED lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
  • Constant Red: This Red LED lights to indicate that the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature, putting the amplifier into a self-protection mode, which reduces the power output of the amplifier. The red light will shut off and the amplifier will return to normal, full-power operating mode if the heat sink temperature drops back to a safe level.
  • Constant Amber (Yellow): The Amber (Yellow) LED light indicates that an over-current condition has occurred and is accompanied by a muting of the amplifier's output. Over-current condition can be caused by a speaker inpedance lower than the optimum load impedance range for the amplifier or a short-circuit in the speaker wiring.
  • LED Off: The only condition that will shut down an undamaged XD600/6 completely is if battery voltage or remote turn-on voltage drops below 10-volts. The amplifier will turn back on when voltage climbs back above 11-volts.

Cooling System: The outer shell of the JL Audio amplifier is designed to remove heat from the amplifier circuitry. For optimum cooling performance, this outer shell should be exposed to as large a volume of air as possible.  Enclosing the amplifier in a small, poorly ventilated chamber can lead to excessive heat build-up and degraded performance.

Control Panel Cover: The XD600/6 features a Control Panel Security Cover which protects and hides the amplifier's controls. When installed, the cover ensures that the amplifier's settings are not accidentally changed while creating a clean aesthetic look for the amplifier and your installation. The control panel security cover is pre-installed at the factory and must be temporarily removed for access the amplifier's controls. The security cover is secured by two 2.5mm hex-head screws.

Simplified Gain Setting: The XD Series amplifier makes setting the gain level of the amp via the input sensitivity control very simple. All you need is Digital AC Voltmeter (142TK12V, sold separately) and a Test CD Disc (503CD104, sold separately) with a sine-wave test-tone recorded at 0 dB reference level in the frequency range to be amplified for that set of channels (50 Hz for subwoofer channels, 1 kHz for a midrange application).

Note: The XD600/6 is equipped with a independent gain controls for the 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6 channels.

Flexible Input Section And Active Crossover Network: The JL Audio XD amplifier provides a flexible input section and a comprehensive crossover network to fine tune your system effectively and accurately. The variable filter design employed in the JL Audio XD amplifier crossover sections allow you to seamlessly switch slopes, easily change filter frequencies and address what frequencies the preamp inputs will pass. The XD600/6 offers the following independent crossover adjustments for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels along the unit's top panel, behind a removal cover plate.

  • Input Mode: This switch allows operation of all six amplifier channels with only one pair of input signals (2ch); with independent front and rear input signal pairs (4ch); or with discrete front, rear, and subwoofer signal pairs (6ch).
  • Filter Mode: The amplifier allows you to select either a Low Pass, High Pass or Full-Range operation of the amplifier's 1&2 channels, 3&4, 5&6 channels.
  • Variable Frequency: You can set the amplifier's Low Pass or High Pass crossover from 50 to 200 Hz for channels 1&2, channels 3&4, and channel 5&6.

Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections.

  • Power and Ground: The JL Audio amplifier's set-screw Power and Ground connections are designed to accept 8 to 4 AWG power wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.
  • Remote Turn-On: The JL Audio XD amplifier's set-screw turn-on lead will accept 18 to 8 AWG wire. The same 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connection.

Note: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 50-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 50-amps, the original should be replaced with a 50-amp fuse

Speaker Output Terminals: The XD600/6 amplifier's twelve set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.

Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features 3 sets of differential-balanced RCA jack inputs. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for the front 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6 channels of the amplifier. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the XD600/6 to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's input level can be set independently for the front and rear channels between 100mV-4V.

Remote Level Control: The amplifier features a standard telephone connector for adding an optional wired remote level control. With the addition of the optional wired Remote Level Control (136HDRLC, sold separately), you can control the volume of 2, 4, or 6 channels of the XD600/6 from the front of your vehicle. This is useful for subwoofer level control or even as a master volume control for your system. If desired, multiple XD amplifiers can be controlled from a single HD-RLC controller using a simple phone line splitter and multiple phone cables (all sold separately).

Note: All inputs and outputs are located on the rear side of the amplifier to make installation of the amplifier simple and neat.
