Power an entire system
The XD700/5 5-channel amp can power your vehicle's entire system, delivering 75 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers, while powering a sub with up to 300 watts. You can also switch to 3-channel mode, and power your front speakers with 200 watts each, while still driving the sub with 300 watts. High- and low-pass filters give you intimate control over the character of your sound.

"Differential-balanced" inputs keep the signals clear of outside noise, and allow you to connect this amp to just about any in-dash stereo, even a factory radio with no preamp outputs. An optional wired remote lets you tweak the level from your front seat.

Amazing little amp! Powers whole system perfectly!

Psychedelica from Victoria, BC, Canada on 3/3/2014

5 stars!!! I'm powering my whole system with the JL XD700/5 hiding underneath the front passenger seat of my 1997 Mitsubishi Delica. Power wise, it's sending 180 RMS to my JL CP108LG-W3v3 8" micro sub which provides plenty chest-rattling bass out of a box that tucks under my far back seat - some seriously awesome engineering there to make that happen! The other channels are sending 75W to the front and rear speakers and is more than enough. My front components are the Kenwood XR-1800P (110RMS) which feature a 7" oversized speaker for mid bass and excellent tweeters while in the back I have a pair of JVC 6x9's. The amp pushes all these with great power and fidelity. If you're looking for a compact amp to run your whole system on with ease, grab this. Costs a fair penny but well worth it in the end! PS: I also picked up the JL Audio HD-RLC remote bass control and had it run to right below my deck for easy bass adjustment on the micro sub. The adjuster really should come with it though but still worth the extra money as you can then really dial in the low end and turn in down to talk to people in the back without having to go into your menus, etc. Have FUN!!

Pros: Most everything.

Cons: Costs a lot!! Doesn't include bass remote.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this amp to replace the 4 channel factory amp in my Camaro ZL1 with a Subthunp wiring kit and mounting bracket - fits cleanly and stealth like in the original location. Not only does this amp add much more power to the Boston Acoustics speakers, it adds an extra 300W adjustable subwoofer output. The sound is awesome and the power is amazing for this small size. This is a very high quality piece, and it has all the right adjustments and settings.

Pros: Great power and sound from a small footprint amp.

Cons: None

Incredible Delivery in a Small Package

Chris from Seattle WA on 10/17/2012

I have this sub installed in the storage space in the hatch of my Infinity QX4. When I first opened it I was amazed at how small the amp was but had read so many good reviews. I hooked up Polk dB+ 6.5 components in the front, and Polk dB+ 6.5 coaxials in the rear doors. A friend spent more on the Polk MM's and we ended up not being able to tell a difference at all between the dB+'s so I'm glad I saved a little cash. I installed a 10W1V2-4 in a power wedge box I built from 3/4" MDF and upholstered to match the car's interior. Then I hooked the amp up (4 gauge kicker amp kit). The HU is Kenwood's DDX419 (important to note the 4v pre-amp outputs). This amp pushes the speakers with absolutely no trouble at all. I have the gains a little below half (sound screams at vol 24/35 on the HU) and my ears start hurting before any distortion. The clarity with the speakers and this amp is extremely good. The amp also pushes the sub just fine. I have the gain about 3/4 up for the sub and the one ten powered by this guy is plenty of bass whether I listen to Indie, Rock, Electronic, just simply pushes it hard. Lastly I will note that I hooked up a 10W3 (4 ohm) and couldn't tell a difference. The 10W3 needs more than this amp can push to be worth the extra money (my friend has it hooked up in the same box with a JL 600x1 and it screams), but this amp fills my SUV with all the bass I need. Cannot say enough about the quality of this amp, and its small size. Perfect for a full system.

Pros: SIze, look, filter features, construction, sound!

Cons: Absolutely none!

Awesome amp

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 1998 BMW M3 which I use for my business. The factory speakers needed replacment after 14 yrs, as the car is still in great condition. I got Polk Audio MM 5251 2 way components for the front and MM 691 (yes they fit with the 6X9 adapters you can buy on ebay or other online stores, BMW also made M3s with 6x9). I had the speakers installed without any crossovers, and running the factory amp. It sounded mediocre, not much bass, the installer told me not to put too much bass out of the 6x9s as it will blow the speakers, he recommended a sub. I decided on the JL Audio 8inch Microsub!! This thing is awesome!!!!!! More than enough bass and then some. I ordered the JL Amp JX250X1 and JX360X2 as I couldn't decide which to drive the sub. But towards the end of the day an ad popped up for XD 700/5, so I thought it would be great to have one amp vs the factory amp and one for the sub, so I pulled the trigger. Glad I did, I installed this 5 channel amp and the crossovers w/ the Polk speakers like they should have and also got the remote Bass control ( I recommend this so you can adjust the bass real quick rather than messing with the head unit.) Any how this amp brought alive my Polk speakers and w/ the Microsub it is awesome. I highly recommend this set up!! I sent back the JX amps - thats another great thing about crutchfield easy returns. Don't mount it upside down and it requires a 60A Maxi fuse. I highly recommend!!!

Pros: Compact, Powerful

Cons: None

This amp is awsome, went on 6 hour road road trip did not get hot and power down once, I'am running 4 6 by 9s and 10 inch sub in my 2003 f150. Worth the money, wish it was cheaper, you will not be disappointed with this amp, i had it professional installed because I'am lazy but the install looked pretty easy, installer had it dun in about an hour. sounds amazing and hits pretty hard wish i had bigger woofer.

Pros: small, powerful not even turned up all the way, looks nice

Cons: price

01 F150 Crew Cab

JamesC from Indiana on 5/22/2012

I have this amp on 4 5x7 Alpine type S door speakers and 1 10w3v3 console stealth box in my F150 Crew Cab. And I have to say that i'm very impressed. The sound is very crisp and the bass hits hard, and just from one 10. I've had plenty of systems over the years from 3 or 4 12's to this one 10. And this setup is the most impressive being that everything comes from one Amp half the size of any old school amp that I have ever had. If your looking to maximize space this Amp is for you. It can push your whole setup and still small enough to mount under a seat or small compartment. Just an all around great amp.

Pros: Everything

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am not an electronic wizzard, so making the final settings were trial and error. Still don't have it completely right. Also bought pre-made plugs and harnesses which made the installation go easy. The size is perfect for installation in my 2012 Camaro convertible. The fifth channel is great for the sub. No additional amp needed. Sound is great improvement. Even with the OEM speakers.

Pros: Perfect size. Easy to hook up.

Cons: Adjustments can be confusing.

great amp

PH from texas on 9/17/2011

this is a hard hitting amp. i have it on 4 6x9's and 2 ten inch dual voice coil subs and it delivers tooth jarring clear sound. it is a real deal. a few more bucks than average junk, and well worth it. no regrets whatsoever.

03 Wrangler killer app

Heck35 from McCurtain County, OK on 5/10/2011

This is the perfect amp in my Jeep. Small, powerful, and easy to install and adjust. You don't have to be a techie to get great sound. Before you think your factory radio is junk, you need this. It should be the first upgrade you make on a vehicle. I kick myself every day for not getting this years earlier.

Best % Channel Amp

Dale from Riceboro, Ga on 10/30/2010

I bought this amp two weeks ago and it install in my 2009 Honda Ridgeline truck with a stealth box from JL that have a 10 inch sub in it. This amp enhance my sound to the fullest. It never shutoff, keep my sound clear even when I turn the volume up to its peak, and Very small and compact. This amp does what it suppose to do which I like. I reccomend to anybody to purchase this amp if you want something that can can run your whole system without the hassle of giving up so much trunk space.

5-Channel Full-Range Amplifier: The JL Audio XD700/5 is a five-channel, class-D amplifier utilizing NexD ultra-high speed switching technology to deliver outstanding fidelity and efficiency. The XD700/5 can be operated with a wide variety of source units and system configuration.

Amplifier Rating: The JL Audio XD700/5 Class D amplifier is rated at 75 Watts RMS x 4-channels (front & rear) + 180 Watts x 1-channel (subwoofer) in 4-ohm at 20 to 20,000Hz with a signal-to-noise-ratio of 104 dB and a total harmonic distortion of 1% while receiving 14.4 Volts.

NexD Class D Technology: NexD is a state-of-the-art switching amplifier design that combines exceptional audio quality with excellent efficiency and less complexity. This results in an affordable compact amplification with exceptional audio quality and unsurpassed total efficiency.

Advanced Rollback Protection: The XD-Series amplifiers employ advanced thermal and low-impedance protection to virtually eliminate annoying amplifier shut-down events. Should any XD-Series amplifier ever overheat, its intelligent, unregulated power supply reacts by limiting available peak voltage until the amplifier returns to a safe temperature range. Likewise, if an impedance lower than optimal for the amplifier is present at the outputs, the XD amplifier will roll back peak voltage to protect itself without shutting down.

Differential-Balanced Inputs: The JL Audio amplifier features differential-balanced input architecture to effectively control noise and ensure compatibility with a wide variety of source units, including many OEM systems. Without resorting to line output converters, you can directly connect most OEM source units to the JL Audio amplifier without creating any noise or compatibility issues. Unlike conventional single-ended inputs, the differential-balanced design does not connect one side of the audio signal to chassis ground. This eliminates any voltage sensitivity between one input terminal and ground and greatly reduces the incidence of alternator whine in a typical car audio installation.

Note: You will need three speaker wire to RCA adaptors (136XDCLR2S, sold separately) to connect this amplifier to your headunit via speaker-level.

Protection Circuitry With Status Indicator Lights: There is a single multi-color LED on the top panel of the amplifier to indicate the amplifier's operating status.

  • Flashing Green: When the LED is flashing green, the amplifier is powering up and audio output is muted.
  • Constant Green: This LED lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
  • Constant Red: This Red LED lights to indicate that the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature, putting the amplifier into a self-protection mode, which reduces the power output of the amplifier. The red light will shut off and the amplifier will return to normal, full-power operating mode if the heat sink temperature drops back to a safe level.
  • Constant Amber (Yellow): The Amber (Yellow) LED light indicates that an over-current condition has occurred and is accompanied by a muting of the amplifier's output. Over-current condition can be caused by a speaker impedance lower than the optimum load impedance range for the amplifier or a short-circuit in the speaker wiring.
  • LED Off: The only condition that will shut down an undamaged XD700/5 completely is if battery voltage or remote turn-on voltage drops below 10-volts. The amplifier will turn back on when voltage climbs back above 11-volts.

Cooling System: The outer shell of the JL Audio amplifier is designed to remove heat from the amplifier circuitry. For optimum cooling performance, this outer shell should be exposed to as large a volume of air as possible.  Enclosing the amplifier in a small, poorly ventilated chamber can lead to excessive heat build-up and degraded performance.

Control Panel Cover: The XD700/5 features a Control Panel Security Cover which protects and hides the amplifier's controls. When installed, the cover ensures that the amplifier's settings are not accidentally changed while creating a clean aesthetic look for the amplifier and your installation. The control panel security cover is pre-installed at the factory and must be temporarily removed for access the amplifier's controls. The security cover is secured by two 2.5mm hex-head screws.

Simplified Gain Setting: The XD Series amplifier makes setting the gain level of the amp via the input sensitivity control very simple. All you need is Digital AC Voltmeter (142TK12V, sold separately) and a Test CD Disc (503CD104, sold separately) with a sine-wave test-tone recorded at 0 dB reference level in the frequency range to be amplified for that set of channels (50 Hz for subwoofer channels, 1 kHz for a midrange application).

Note: The XD700/5 is equipped with a independent gain controls for the 1/2, 3/4, & 5 channels.

Flexible Input Section And Active Crossover Network: The JL Audio XD amplifier provides a flexible input section and a comprehensive crossover network to fine tune your system effectively and accurately. The variable filter design employed in the JL Audio XD amplifier crossover sections allow you to seamlessly switch slopes, easily change filter frequencies and address what frequencies the preamp inputs will pass. The XD700/5 offers the following independent crossover adjustments for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels along the unit's top panel, behind a removal cover plate.

  • Input Mode: This switch allows operation of all 5 amplifier channels with only one pair of input signals (2ch); with independent front & rear input signal pairs (4ch); or with discrete front, rear, & subwoofer signal pairs (5ch).
  • Filter Mode: The amplifier allows you to select either a Full-Range or High-Pass crossover setting for channels 1/2 (front). For channels 3/4 (rear), you can choose between a Full-Range, High-Pass, or Band-Pass crossover setting. Either a Full-Range, a 12dB/oct. Low-Pass, or a 24dB/oct. Low-Pass crossover setting can bet chosen for the subwoofer channel (5).
  • Variable Frequency: For channels 1/2 (front), you can set the high-pass crossover frequency between 50-5,000 Hz. For channels 3/4 (rear), you can set the band-pass or high-pass crossover frequency between 50-500Hz. For channel 5 (subwoofer), you can set the low-pass filter frequency between 50-500Hz.

Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections.

  • Power and Ground: The JL Audio amplifier's set-screw Power and Ground connections are designed to accept 8 to 4 AWG power wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.
  • Remote Turn-On: The JL Audio XD amplifier's set-screw turn-on lead will accept 18 to 8 AWG wire. The same 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connection.

Note: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 60-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 60-amps, the original should be replaced with a 60-amp fuse

Speaker Output Terminals: The XD700/5 amplifier's twelve set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.

Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features 3 pair of differential-balanced RCA jack inputs. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for the front 1/2, 3/4, and 5 channels of the amplifier. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the HD700/5 to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's input level can be set independently for all channels between 100mV-4V.

Remote Level Control: The amplifier features a standard telephone connector for adding an optional wired remote level control. With the addition of the optional wired Remote Level Control (136HDRLC, sold separately), you can control the volume of all channels or just the subwoofer channel of the XD700/5 from the front of your vehicle. This is useful for subwoofer level control or even as a master volume control for your system. If desired, multiple XD amplifiers can be controlled from a single HD-RLC controller using a simple phone line splitter and multiple phone cables (all sold separately).

Note: All inputs and outputs are located on one side of the amplifier to make installation of the amplifier simple and neat.
