Screws don't line up well causing the plastic to crack. Faceplate fits look of car well.

Pros: Looks good

Cons: Construction is cheap, screws crack plastic. Very finicky.

Free means Cheap...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This in dash unit needs to be upgraded to a better product line. Granted it was free but it is cheap, cheap, cheap. Had I known how cheap it was I would have paid for a more robust in dash unit. It is plastic and should have some re-enforced steel brackets. When screwing in the plate the threads split wide open. Very disappointed in the quality of this product. Maybe Crutchfield should look into upgrading this product as it is of very poor quality.

Pros: N/A

Cons: Too plastic and cheap material

Very cheap install kit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As I started putting together this install kit, I immediately noticed how cheap it is. Either the screws were too big, or the plastic holes were too small. A few of the screws split the plastic as I screw them in. The piece is also flimsy. You have the option of buying additional brackets that can be used to increase the structural integrity with double dim stereos, but why aren't these already included? Fortunately, it seems more sturdy after it is mounted in the dashboard, but I'm not sure if it will hold up over time since pieces of the plastic are cracked. Lastly, the color is horrible. The solid silver sticks out among all the other interior pieces. There is limited silver in the car interior, so it really sticks out. This adapter should be solid black, or silver and black. Had I known this kit was so horrible, I would have purchased another one, despite this being free with the head unit purchase. I do not want something so cheap in my very nice Grand Touring Mazda 6.

Pros: Easy to install, and free

Cons: Cheaply made, plastic breaks easily, horrible color/appearance, flimsy.

Great kit

It was a perfect fit to my car. Even the color was similar to the original one.

Pros: Perfect fit to the dashboard!

Cons: I had to cut inside of it so that the receiver would stick out right at the edge.

I was a little doubtful when I received it. But everything fit perfectly. Radio was a perfect fit to the brackets. Everything lined up with no issues. I really did not like the silver, so I had it re painted black. Looks awesome.

Pros: everything aligned perfectly.

Cons: It should be available in different colors.

Greg from Phillies Phan, PA on 2/4/2012

Plastic but sturdy. Assembles easily although I did have to remove the side brackets after assembling before the radio could be inserted due to some mounting pins on the head unit. Silver color is good match although does scratch kind of easily (my fault). Unit doesn't quite sit center but just off by a small fraction of an inch - you would only notice if you're looking for it and looking pretty closely. The upper corners are just big enough to attach a GPS suction cup - a nice plus if you're like me and don't like windshield mounting. Finally the storage pocket is a nice touch, the Mazda 6 is a little short on storage space and it makes a very convenient place to put your wallet and cell phone.

Pros: Looks good, well built and a place to put your GPS.

Cons: A little pricey but does the job.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought a Kenwood head unit from Crutchfield for our 2009 Mazda 6 and this was included in the kit. Initially I didn't think the radio would fit and had to call Crutchfield who explained that the radio doesn't slide through the opening, but rather butts up against it on the backside. Once I had that figured out installation was quick and easy. The silver color by my eyes appears to be a perfect match for the existing OEM silver paint on the interior. This also comes with a cubby hole below the radio, which turned out to be handy for storing our iPod connected to the radio. The unit is all plastic, whereas the OEM unit uses metal frame, so it doesn't feel as sturdy as the OEM cage, but so far I've had no problems, no rattles or creaks with it.
