Overview

Our take on the Scosche RHYTHM+

There are dozens of great fitness apps available for your smartphone. But most of them are only as good as the info you enter. The more information you give your fitness apps to work with, the better they'll work for you. Scosche's RHYTHM+ is the just the tool you need. This versatile arm-mounted device tracks your heart rate and automatically relays the info to some of the most popular fitness apps, like DigiFit, Runkeeper, MapMyFitness, and Strava. And Scoshe's PerformTek sensor takes accurate readings — more accurate than many leading brands.

The rhythm is an innexpensive way to accurately monitor my heart rate during cycling. The icing on the cake is Crutchfiled had this in stock and ready to ship!

Pros: Accurate heart rate monitor without breaking the bank!

Cons: None I can think of.

Best Health Purchase yet!

Finally, a Heart Rate monitor that WORKS! I have been using it with the Motifit App and it works great...even the Trainer at the Gym was impressed. No more Chest bands drooping! I was next to someone on the Treadmill yesterday and he kept having to pull up his "Bra Strap"! I informed him of the Scosche and he said it would be his next purchase. I have not tried syncing it to equipment yet...no need with the Motifit app...and the App was free!

Pros: User Friendly!

Cons: None so far!

Good sensor with some limitations

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Scosche RHYTHM+ armband heart rate monitor based on Valencell's PerformTek® biometric sensor technology. Valencell has very good blog post about how optical heart rate monitoring works. They also published testing reviews. I had to dig into this information because initially I received unstable and unexplainable heart rate readings. The most important thing that really helped is to place optical part of RHYTHM+ "approximately two fingers distal to the elbow and aligned with the radial artery". Tighten strap properly to prevent sensor sliding down the arm, but do not over tight. Arms movement during walking, running or working out on elliptical trainer using hand-levers will bring some signal fluctuation from real heart rate. However, RHYTHM+ is useless during weights exercise and rowing. It will show random and unpredictable heart rate. My suggestion to one who is moving from chest strap to RHYTHM+ wear them both for a couple of first days, compare results and find yourself comfortable with new device. I have evaluated my new RHYTHM+ using professional medical cardio monitors and Polar H7.

Pros: Very reliable communication over Bluetooth with several iPhone generations, good rechargeable battery life, optical sensor technology - no interference with other monitors, sensors, electrical equipment

Cons: Doesn't produce true heart rate measurement while rowing, during arm exercises (weights)

What I was looking for

Fred from New Ulm, MN on 2/19/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use the scosche monitor with my garmin 225 since I was looking for a more accurate tracking of my heart rate. It does a great job and the arm location of the strap can't be beat. I immediately saw a difference comparing my previous heart rates using the wrist sensors of my garmin 225 which were higher they should be by 10-15%.

Pros: Easy to wear Easy to link Accurate

Cons: None

Cons: Doesn't work well below 50 degrees

Beats the Chest Strap

ChicagoJoe from las vegas, NV on 1/27/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was sick off the skin irritation caused by traditional chest strap Heart Rate Monitors. I use a Garmin Fenix 2 and was concerned that some of the metrics such as vertical oscillation and cadence may not be measured with the Scosche, however that is not the case and all metrics measured with the traditional chest strap appeared to be measured with the Scosche.

Pros: Forearm use is convenient and easy to use.

Cons: Daily charging as opposed to long term battery.

Works great with my iPhone for spinning

Pros:

Cons:

Awesome! Wish it had more config on iPhone

MicMc from Texas on 10/18/2015

It was here quick, installed great, and was working the same night. I'm really happy to not have my phone turned on anymore. I would love to see the configurations in the iPhone that are available in Android, but I understand that takes some time. Despite that, I'm really happy with the sleep monitor, and with the band itself. Caution: For those with overly large wrists, you "can" stretch the band to fit. I have a US size 8 wrist and was able to make it fit. It is snug, but has never come off and doesn't leave a mark.

Pros: Great sleep monitoring, great wakeup alarms. Love not having audible alarms anymore. (I bought 5 of them for the 5 adults in the house) I can also shower with it and have not had any issue.

Cons: Would like more configuration of colors and vibrations in the native app but the cost of this guy is amazing for the quality.

Fantastic Heart Rate Monitor

JBA from Texas on 4/12/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We love this heart rate monitor! We have used the other heart rate monitors with the chest strap and the chest strap typically tends to lose connection during activity- mainly during spin class. A friend of ours introduced the Scosche monitor to us and I have to say that I am incredibly pleased with it. My husband bought me one for Christmas and I turned around few months later and bought him one for our anniversary. We have also recommended this to several people in our spin class who have also purchased it and are pleased with it.

Pros: Stays connected, easy to use, cost effective

Cons: Not readily able to tell remaining battery life on device

Best in class

Marian from California on 3/25/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have done some research before choosing this product and it seems to be the best. I have tested it couple of times and the results are consistent to what other have said about it. I am happy with my purchase, the only problem is that not all the sports tracking apps I use are compatible with it, however this is not the product fault, but the app's fault.

Pros: More convenient than a chest strap. Easy to pair. Good battery life. Accurate measurement.

Cons: None, yet.

Great HR Monitor

Features

Overview: The Rhythm+ Heart Rate Monitor (RTHM1.9) is a workout tool that will help you measure how hard you're working out by monitoring your heart rate, calories burned, distance, pace, and more. The PerformTek precision sensor technology continually measures real-time heart rate data more accurately than a conventional chest strap. It connects via Bluetooth Smart protocol to your smartphone, and works with most popular health and fitness apps, including DigiFit, Runkeeper, MapMyFitness, and Strava. Its extended wireless range lets you work out up to 100 feet away from your device.

ANT+ Compatible: RTHM1.9 is ANT+ certified, and is compatible with displays that support heart rate data, such as watches, fitness equipment, and smartphones. Its dual-mode processor lets you simultaneously transmit your heart rate to multiple ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart devices.

Smartphone Compatibility: The Rhythm+ is compatible with the following devices:

  • iPhone: 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S
  • iPad: mini with retina display, mini, 4th gen, 3rd gen
  • iPod touch: 5th gen
  • Samsung: Galaxy S IV

Monitor Placement: Rhythm+ is worn on the forearm, and placed on the inside or top of your arm just below the elbow. It should be worn snug enough so that it doesn't move around, but not too tight that it restricts arm circulation. The monitor comes with two breathable lightweight armbands (14" and 10" long and 1-1/8" wide).

Waterproof: The Rhythm+ Heart Rate Monitor's sweatproof and waterproof construction is built to IEC Standard 60529 IP67, and can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

Power Requirements: The monitor is powered by a rechargeable battery that provides up to 8 hours of workout time on a 2-hour charge. The Rhythm+ comes with a charging base that plugs into your computer or a USB charging port.

A friend and I workout constantly and very intensely. This would help us track our fitness goals. He is very muscular and doesn't like watches. So this is an option that would fit his size. Also, he has a Windows phone and I found an App that works with this on Windows. [ Shannette  Jan 18, 2016 ]
