I'm sure they work great for some cars I just didn't decide to use them, quality plastic so they won't be flimsy or vibrate. Would be great if you decide to use them they are great for the price

Pros: Quality build

Cons: Not for all applications

Great for novice installation when true sound quality doesn't matter.

Yes. They fit where a 6x9 would...... but take modification to fit a 6.5 and the tweeter location is compromised once modification is made. Works great on 5.5 and 5.0 components I'm sure.

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Plastic "sings" and doesn't fit 6.5

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Disappointed... I had a garaunteed fit with this and my 5 and a 1/4 Polks but instead I spent 5 hours cutting my door and panel vents to make it work. The hole is just a tad smaller than the speaker and is slightly oval snapped also they use screws when it would be so much more sense to use bolts and nuts because of the holes for the screws aren't a 1/2" or less from the speaker cut out you'll have to improvise how your going to lock your screws in.

Pros: Can be made to work

Cons: Had to cut up my truck Slightly smaller than its dimensions Cheap

Anonymous from Grand Junction, CO on 12/26/2016

2003 Honda Accord LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed these mounting brackets, in my 2003 Honda Accord coupe, for my new JVC 6 1/2" rear deck speakers. Unfortunately, this was the only item which did not work as well as expected. My first issue was screwing my new speakers onto this mounting bracket. Once tightened down the bracket bowed to such an extent that the 4 main mounting holes no longer aligned with the factory mounting bolt holes. However, the biggest problem was that my factory speakers were 6" x 9" oval geometry, and I was replacing them with 6 1/2" round speakers mounted on this bracket. The problem here is the Honda factory grills have an oval (6" x 9") rib on the underside, that drops down to encapsulate (capture/hold) the rim of the old 6" x 9" speakers. The old 6" rib dimension is not wide enough to clear the new 6 1/2" (diameter) speaker rim. The rib now pushes against the 6 1/2" rim, and does not let the grill come down far enough to snap into place. I had to attach a cutting wheel to a dremel tool to cut the ribs off the underside of the grills. Having to cut up the factory speaker grills was not expected.

Wasted nearly $20 on these with the shipping and handling. The cutout is supposedly able to accommodate a 6.5in speaker. It doesn't. I measured the opening and it measures 5 1/8in. The 6.5in speakers I have require a 5.75in opening. I'm not even going to waste my time trying to return them. Now I need to come up with other options to mount my speakers. Disappointed.

Pros: I thought they would fit.

Cons: They didn't.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upgraded the speakers in my 2005 Dodge Magnum 1Feb2016. The factory speakers are 6x9's with whizzer cones. I bought a Kicker component set from Crutchfield and they sent me these speaker adapters along with all the instructions, speaker-wire adapters and mounting hardware. Thumbs up Crutchfield! My speakers fit the adapters perfectly and the adapter fits the 6x9 inch opening on the door just fine. There is a small gap at the top of the adapter, hence the speaker is not completely sealed off from the back of the door. No biggie, I do not think that will make much of a difference in the way my system sounds. And it sounds just right!

Pros: Does what it was designed to do.

Cons: Small gap between the adapter and the sheet metal. It does not cover the speaker cut-out 100%.

Cons: Alignment of the factory holes were off a little. If you are using a speaker bigger than 5 1/4", you will have to drill your own holes.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These brackets are a perfect solution for mounting smaller speakers in a 6x9 openings such as rear decks. I have a sub box in my trunk which is mounted against the back of my rear seat which leaves limited space for "filler speakers" ... So theses were a perfect fit for 51/4 kickers which I also purchased from Crutchfield!

Pros: Nice fit! Good quality! You can also mount a component speaker in this bracket if needed. The bracket holes for mounting to the car door or rear shelf are oblong which aids in installation.

Cons: Just one piece of advice when mounting the speaker to the bracket, do not over tighten hardware as it will "bend" or start warping the bracket, just snug it up nice that's all that's needed.

Pros: Great for the smaller speakers, quicker install

Cons: Could of had a pressed line where to cut for 6.5" speakers

This product came in quick. They seem to be of decent quality and they fit the spot where my 6x9 should go. The down side. It says universal 5.25 - 6.5. Probably should have used my common sense and figured they wouldnt ft my 6.5s. I thought maybe it had a break away portion for 6.5s but it doesnt. Not too upset since its wasn't expensive. I gave it 3 stars because it is a decent build quality and it came quick. You can modify it to make the 6.5s fit but at that point youre better off building your own.

+5 for ease of use +2 for stiffness +1 for clips ( would be great to have nuts affixed to the base so no clips are needed) I felt the plastic itself could have been stiffer, but I understand you might run into an issue with it becoming brittle. The plastic did bend a bit, producing a deformed plate upon attaching the speaker into it. However, that was not a problem once installed into the door cavity, as that (mostly) flattened it out again.

I bought the speakers for a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The speakers fit the plates, the plates do not fit the car.You list 6X9s as original Toyota components for the rear. The Toyota Corolla does not come with 6X9s,the original speakers are oddball size and larger than 6X9.I mounted the speaker components on the plates before disassembling the car to mount the whole thing before realizing the plates were useless in this application.Only one hole will be able to be used and there is no way to make the plates work in this application.I now own a component system that is mounted with one screw and the speakers themselves fall far short of expectations.even amped they can not handle any volume. This is my first bad experience with Crutchfield.Makes me wonder if you guys have ever even been in the back of a Toyota Corolla to get it so wrong.Very disapponting to say the least.I will now have to buy speakers for the front since you do NOT have anything that fits the rear.Wasted money

In a 2012 Toyota Corolla these things are not even close to being accurate for the rear deck. They are way to small and will not come close to aligning with the factory holes. The factory holes are so much bigger then these I literally while trying to rig them to work dropped the speaker WITH the bracket attached through the original factory opening. To get them to even begin to work I was able to mount using just 1 of the 4 holes and used the factory bolt. The remaining 3 holes I have zip ties locking them in place. Yes...zip ties!

Pros: None.

Cons: Everything..

Crutchfield response on 3/26/2014 The factory speakers in the 2012 Corolla have elongated mounting tabs that don't match up with normal aftermarket gear. I have a 2009 Nissan maxima with premium sound system. I bought a pair of Focal 165 KRX2 that are 6 1/2 inches (I hope this info helps other customers). The hole to mount the speaker is about 5 inches in diameter so you will basically have to customize the adaptor, cutting to the right size, drilling the holes. I bought this think that I will save all that work. I guess I was wrong. The adaptor is 1/4 of an inch thick so don't even think cutting it by hand

Pros: It looks pretty strong. Well made

Cons: Not universal. At least not for my car

i went from a 6x9 to a 6and 1/2 component speaker so i was supplied these brackets. they mounted great to the factory location howeevr i had to screw threw the bracket to mount the woofer speaker. not a big deal . also there is a knock out for the tweeter which i used and you can use the knock out or surface mount it with the particular tweeter i used. i decided id use the knock out and the tweeter hit the old rim where the 6x9 sat. a small bit of trimming solved my issue.

Pros: free with purchase of speakers. they work well

Cons: the knock out for the tweeter is hard to remove and depending on how you mount the tweeter you might have to trim your door panel etc. this is also not a big deal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mount plate had the correct hole for the 5 1/4 speakers I bought. The only thing I had to drill was four holes to attach the Infinity mount plate to this mount plate and four holes to mount the speaker to the Infinity mount plate. I could have done it without the Infinity mount plate, but there was some foam isolation that came with the speakers that I wanted to use. It worked out especially good as I was able to unclip the original speakers from the original mount plate and this mount plate fit into the original mount plate like a glove. It made the installation a snap with no drilling or screws.

Pros: A perfect fit to the original mount plate with good support for the speakers.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The universal adapter plates i will call them came with screws and clips for my speakers i ordered through crutchfiled. I specifically needed the adapters for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT front door speaker holes that originally held 6x9's and i went to the recommended 5" component woofer from the crutchfield adviser. Upon truing to install the adapter the instructions called for using mounting clips but that was not possible due to the speaker holes having lips that are curled and rounded. The slots on the UNIVERSAL mounting plates did not line up with the factory speaker holes. I had to drill into the doors metal and custom mount. I specifically gave my truck make, model and year but the adapters are incompatible for a direct replacement without modifications.

Pros: they will hold the 5" speaker

Cons: not a direct fit for my Dodge

These brackets do the job! All the holes lined up well enough for me to screw the speaker into the bracket and the bracket into the rear deck of my 06' Accord without any problems or modifications. The stock mesh speaker covers no longer snap all the way back into the rear deck of my accord. But, this may be the tweeter on my Polk db651s speaker sticking up slightly too much and not the bracket itself.

Pros: The bracket itself is made out of a decent quality plastic. Its not cheap and flimsy feeling like some brackets I have used.

Cons: As some reviewers have said, the screws and other hardware that came with these brackets are junk! I used my own.

(Wanted to turn 90 degrees, but the car's metal molding would not accomodate.) I was only able to attach two opposing corners. Further, the unit did not match up well with the Blaupunkt 652 speakers I purchased from Crutchfield. Had to drill a hole into the unit to attach three screws to the speakers. The help desk, while very friendly, offered little assistance. They checked, and this unit was the only one recommended for the make, model and year. I received these adapters with my order. They were not required. I was replacing stock speakers in a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with speakers that "fit", according to the product selector. These are designed to allow an installer to use smaller speakers in a 6 x 9 opening. I was replacing my 6 x 9s with another set of 6 x 9s. The new speakers required modification to the opening (enlarging) but these didn't seem to have a place in my installation...

I used them in the back of our 98 Protege. Everything worked (screwing the 5 1/4" speaker directly into the bracket. 3 of the 4 mounting holes lined up to mount bracket into the car. This should be sufficient and we have no rattles.

Good Idea BUT it DOES NOT fit a 6.5 inch speaker without serious cutting ! Had to take about a 1/4 inch off of the hole the whole way around where the speakers go ! They should make a size for 5 1/4 and one for 6.5 inch !

Albert from Arlington, Tx on 9/11/2008

2000 Chrysler Sebring

I installed this on the rear of my 2000 Sebring and they fit like a glove. I did have to add my own holes to fit the speakers. I had extra space to mount the tweeter, from the component speakers, right next to the woofer, which was a plus, since I didn't have to make any new holes on the car. Both fit nicely with the original speaker cover.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used to mount 6 1/2" speakers in the rear of my Chrysler. While it worked, the holes for mounting it into the car didn't line up very well causing a bow in the adaptor. I had to put foam tape on the adaptor to prevent the bracket from rattling in the car. Also, the instructions aren't very clear on how to use the hardware or how to mount the speaker to the bracket. In short. It was not a simple plug and play as I thought it should be.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was able to align the adapter bracket to fit my speakers, but the holes where they attach to the car door were outside of the speaker opening- meaning I could not use all the anchor holes without drilling into the metal on the door. I was able to attach the bracket by 2 of the 4 attachment points on one door, but only 1 on the other door. It is fairly sturdy with only 1 but when the doors is slammed you can hear the speaker vibrate. I will have to take the door apart again and drill a hole in order to take care of this once and for all. So- yes they worked but not the way I would have liked.

Worked like a charm on my 05 dodge 2500 quadcab front doors with Infinity Kappa 52.9i 5.25". The only problem I had was 2 of the four mounting screws was to long and hit the door frame so I just clipped them short no problem.

Not universal

whatevs from New York, NY on 7/26/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's nice of them to include this for free with orders, but it would be nicer if it actually fit the speakers it came with. I tried a knife (too thick), file (too much work), soldering iron (too stinky/toxic), tin snips (too concave) and torch (yeah right) to expand the diameter of the hole, so that it would fit the surrounds of the speakers I bought, but only had luck with a dremel tool (until it broke) and eventually bought a coping saw, which worked well. Way too much work for a "universal" adapter. Then the heads of the bolts rattle against the sheet metal of the car, since, even though flat, they still stick out higher than the plastic. It would have been better to countersink the holes first. Instead, I just drilled a bunch more holes through the plastic and screwed it down even tighter to the car. I guess it's marginally better than cutting the sheet metal of the car. Sigh.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first read the reviews of these adapter brackets I must say I was turned off and worried, but I needed something so I ordered a pair for my rear deck. I replaced my 99 Bonneville factory 6x9s with Polk MoMo MMC6500's, here's what I did. I popped off my factory grilles on the rear deck by hand and then popped out the actual 6x9s that were held in place with the factory brackets which were secured to the rear deck only by two clips on each speaker bracket and then removed four 1/4 bolts holding each 6x9 to the removed brackets. The adapters from crutchfield secured right to the existing factory brackets with the four 1/4 bolts, the Polk 6 1/2" fit perfect in these adapters and were then secured by allenhead screws and backclips provided by Polk. Each tweet was then secured above the woof and a little to the left for the left side and a little to the right for the right side. The tweets were secured by using a "cup" supplied by Polk of course, these cups secured to cruthchfield adaptor with one screw, just decided were tweet cups would go and took a regular screwdriver and screw and forced my way through the plastic of the crutchfield adapter and boom, done secure as heck. The tweets then snapped right into the cups and I was able to point them in the correct position. The factory adapters snapped right back into the rear deck therefore securing everything, factory grilles popped back in, done, looks like nothing was done. Not only was I able to replace those crap 6x9s without having to remove my rear seats, seatbelts, ect. but crutchfield also sent me instructions on how to remove my door panels, and that also went great.

1993 Dodge Dynasty

I recently installed some 6-1/2"s using this adaptor and just as the first review states, I'm glad I didn't purchase this thing. I had to drill some holes into the adaptor to mount the speaker successfully. The only fortunate thing was that this adaptor is plastic, so the drilling was easy. This product deserves one star because it did not do the job it stated it would. Kind of sad to think that one must do custom work to a custom-suited adaptor.

Cons:

Universal?? or Generic?

Jason from South Bend, IN on 12/5/2005

I'm glad they throw these in when you make a purchase. I would have been upset if I paid for them. They are very generic, you would have to drill holes in your car to secure them, and as previous reviews have mentioned, a 6.5" is a squeeze. I had to alter the tweeter mounts to make them fit next to the 6.5" and drill new holes for the woofers. I made custom adapters to fit the factory mounting in my car, and screwed the univ. bracket to these. Don't expect these to be the custom adapters that you are used to getting from Crutchfield!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to agree with the previous review.....these really only adapt 5.25 to 6x9. On top of that, they aren't very sturdy. You should put a thin layer of foam between the adapter and the door frame so that it doesn't rattle. If you go too think on the foam, the adapter warps too much.....at least too much for my tastes.

I tried putting in 6x9 baffles (from here) and the foam was way too thick.

On the positive side, I will use them as a pattern to make an adapter out of good sturdy steel. (but not quarter inch) ;)

6"x9" to 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" Adapter only really fits a 5-1/4". In order for it to fit a 6-1/2" you have to shave the edges down. Not a complete waste of money, though. Still improved sound from 6-1/2" just put in a 6"x9" hole.

Features

Overview: The SA69 fits many factory 6x9 speaker locations, allowing you to mount select 5-1/4s and 6-1/2s in its round opening. There is also a scored knockout for mounting a separate tweeter. (Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.)

6-1/2 Speakers: The brackets have screw holes for the standard 3-hole 6-1/2 pattern. If the 6-1/2 to be installed has a 4-hole pattern, new holes will likely need to be drilled in the bracket.

5-1/4 Speakers: While a 5-1/4 speaker will mount easily in this bracket given the bolt pattern, the frame of many 5-1/4s (about one in three) is smaller than the opening in the bracket, making a 6-1/2 a better fit. When using a 5-1/4, a speaker baffle might also be needed to seal the rear of the speaker.

Tweeters: The knockouts for mounting separate tweeters have several scored concentric circles, ranging from approximately 5/8" to 1-3/4". By design, the tweeter plug is not easily removed, it will need to be cut out.

Great value, very handy

Written by Jude, Director, Digital Imaging, on 7/10/2014 9:21:00 AM
My son just purchased a newer car, a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and the sound system it came with was, well, awful. We sat down together and planned a system and since he was on a budget we decided we would go with our house brand Sound Ordnance for most of it, and we are not disappointed. We installed the P65-C in the rear deck using the SA69 6X9 adapter. We then installed the P-40 in the front doors with fabricated brackets we made from the 12x12 sheet of ABS #1208900903 and then used the Dynamat #15410415 to seal it all up and add sound deadening to the doors. We chose the JVC KD-R950BT for the Bluetooth and the generous power the internal amplifier has, plus the abundant color choices made it easy to match the red backlighting in the Pontiac. We needed bass so we used the Sound Ordnance B-24 and the Rockford Fosgate #575P500X1B we had from his previous vehicle and connected it using the EFX 8 gauge wiring kit #142PA8. We spent a Sunday working on this project and have to say it exceeded my expectations on sound. It sounds clear, the bass hits as hard as you want and the total price was well within his budget. This is a great system and it was also a great day spent with my son.

I had to take a die grinder to mine to expand them my speakers were 6.3/4[ TOM Apr 18, 2017 ]
The Scosche SA69 bracket fits many factory 6x9 speaker locations, allowing you to mount select 5-1/4" and 6-1/2" speakers in its round opening. We don't carry the Boss Audio speakers you referenced, but the bracket has an opening diameter of 5.1"; so as long as your speakers can fit that opening, they should fit.
