Sennheiser HD 4.40BT Wireless - NFC-compatible for one-touch Bluetooth pairing with compatible smartphones
Crutchfield at CES: Sennheiser HD 4.40BT and HD 4.50BTNC headphones
If you're looking for a solid set of Bluetooth headphones from a reputable brand, here's a smart choice. The Sennheiser HD 4.40BT headphones play music wirelessly from your phone and boast up to 25 hours of battery life. They're also comfortable and affordable, and they deliver strong Sennheiser sound with deep bass.
We've carried Sennheiser for so long, I often assume they're a household name. But if you don't know this celebrated headphone maker, they've been at it for over 70 years. So even grabbing a so-called "entry-level" pair of their wireless headphones should promise you good performance.
"I got a chance to try these Sennheiser HD 4.40BT headphones... Light and comfortable. They play quite loud for Bluetooth headphones, so they work well on the go. I thought the powerful bass gave them a lot of energy, and I consider them a strong buy at this price.”
— Jeff Miller, Crutchfield headphone guy
Personally, I appreciate the modest design of the Sennheiser HD 4.40BT — not too plain, but not too showy, either. I think it's more important that headphones feel good, since you could be wearing them for long periods of time. Their oversized ear cups and well-padded headband help ensure they fit nicely.
And thanks to that built-in Bluetooth, you can keep your phone nearby or in your pocket while you move around freely. You can control your tunes or take phone calls using the tactile buttons on the right earcup.
The headphones are great.

Average Customer Review(s):
The headphones are great.
These headphones are great! The sound is full, and even though they aren't noise-cancelling, it definitely limits the outside noise. It's also nice to have so much control on the headphones themselves (changing tracks, volume, picking up/answering phone calls, etc). The only issues I have had so far is that the bluetooth can be a little difficult when switching frequently between devices (like a phone and laptop). Also, there isn't an indicator to tell you when the headphones are on, so if you aren't careful you can drain the battery. All in all, would purchase again.
Over all, these are good headphones, with clear, crisp sounds and good bass. A good bargain Out of the box, they were not as straight forward as one would expect headphones to be (Headphones should be simple and straight forward). Because they do not come charged, I had to use the audio cable in order to use them immediately. The 3.5mm audio cable is proprietary and requires a special twist maneuver to function properly. If not inserted correctly, they sound terrible. Once inserted and twisted, they are in snugly and resist being pulled out. The proprietary cable fitting is annoying, because cables do get frayed, cut, or lost over time, and need to be replaced. I plugged them into my laptop usb to charge. During charging, there is a clicking and buzzing in the headphones. This makes listening while charging unbearable. Once charged, the Bluetooth function works well. Audio is as good as when connected via cable. Sound is clear, bright, with good bass. The padding on the ear cups does a good job of blocking out external noise, and is comfortable for long periods. The ear cups may be on the small side, but I have small ears. So, there's that. When using as hands-free for phone calls, the sound is clear. As well, the microphone in the right headphone picks up voice/speech well in a quiet room. For the person on the other end of the line, the call is clear and easily understood. It does sound like the caller (the one using the headphones for the call) is in
Pros: Once fully operational, these headphones sound great, are light weight, and comfortable. A very good value
Cons: proprietary 3.5mm audio cable Clicking sound on the line when charging. So, it is not pleasant to use them for listening while also on charge.
Very clear sound, bass is very good and love the sleek design.
Great all-around Bluetooth headphones. Solid bass and crisp highs, long batter life, and very comfortable to wear.
Pros: Solid range, easy pairing and functionality, long battery life, lightweight and easy to wear.
Cons: Not the top of the pack when it comes to overall sound quality, no hard case for travel included, senheiser eq app only works for some music services.
The headphones are great. The design and the sound quality are excellent; controls are easy work, light weight, foldable. Very good fit and does not slide off my ears.
Enjoying the freedom of "no wires". The sound is rich. Perfect for listening to music while I deliver groceries in the middle of the night.
Overall sound quality was excellent for the price. Paired easily and every time I used them. Fit seemed a bit tight at first but I wore them all day at work comfortably. Earpads are on the small side compared to other brands I have tried. I bought these for use in an office environment and could not get the volume low enough for my tastes in Bluetooth mode. Wired worked great, but the point of these was wireless. I contacted Sennheiser directly and their customer service, while prompt, could not find a solution to the volume so I ended up returning them (which was painless...thanks Crutchfield). I ended up buying Bose headphones at almost twice the price and I feel the sound quality is not much, if any better. If you don't need to listen at low volumes, then I recommend these.
These headphones are superb - great design and the sound quality is amazing! Have recommended this pair to all of my friends!
Great sound but the ear pads should be larger. They are not as comfortable as the RS160 headphones. I had to replace the old ones because my new LG tv does not have a headphone jack.
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Could be more comfortable on the ears.
Easy controls, light weight, good sound, foldable. Very comfortable fit and don't slide off. Good for running and on the go activities. Also battery life is excellent. (or well as advertised)
I was looking for a comfy wireless headphones for mostly listening to online courses and occasional music listening. And its probably Ok for that. 4.40BT are VERY comfortable on ears and I can wear them for the whole day. Though I could not get the volume high enough to listen to the voice comfortably enough in a noisy rooms. On the music side, they can do bass, but the the rest of the stage is too dim and unexciting. I personalty prefer a bit brighter sound of URBANITE. The power button is a bit annoying as you have to press and hold it to power on/off. The rest of the controls is fine. And finally the plastic is so easy to scratch, even with careful handling you will get scratches all over the sides easily. I had to return them and stick with URBANITE despite their weight and not as good fit on ears.
Pros: Comfortable, battery life
Cons: Sound too dim, low volume, easy scratchableCrutchfield response on 2/24/2017 Thanks for your review Viktor. This is why we offer a 60-day return policy. We want to give you plenty of time to spend with your headphones, so you can find the best headphones for you.

Overview: The Sennheiser HD 4.40BT over-ear wireless headphones are ideal for every day listening while you're on the go. With built-in Bluetooth, you can pair the headphones to your smart phone or tablet for wireless listening for hours. The headphones come with a USB charging cable, a straight audio cable, and a soft storage pouch.
Bluetooth: The HD 4.40BT headphones are compliant with the Bluetooth 4.0 standard, and are compatible with Bluetooth 1.1 through 4.0 devices with the following profiles: HFP (Hands-Free Profile), HSP (Headset Profile), AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile), and A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). In addition, aptX audio coding provides high quality audio that is comparable to a wired connection. You can pair the headphones with most Apple and Android Bluetooth devices, including those with NFC (Near Field Communication).
Battery: The Bluetooth function is powered by a 3.7-volt 600mAh Lithium-Polymer rechargeable battery. The battery charges in approximately 2 hours using the supplied Micro USB charging cable. A full charge supplies enough power for 25 hours of wireless listening. The remaining battery level can be monitored through the flashing LED and voice prompts. The battery life may also be displayed on the screen of your smartphone or device.
On-board Controls: The HD 4.40BTs have built-in controls on the right ear cup for power, volume, and music/phone call control. Music controls include play/pause, skip to next track, skip to previous track, fast forward, and fast reverse. Phone controls include accept/end a call, reject call, call on hold, and toggle between 2 calls. Established calls can be transferred from the headphones to the smartphone by turning off the Bluetooth connection. Using the Voice Control function of your phone, you can make a call by speaking a command.
Audio Cable: The included 58" audio cable lets you listen to your music when the battery is exhausted, or when you cannot, or choose not to, use Bluetooth. The cable terminates into a slender right-angled 3.5mm plug that is compatible with most smartphone cases. The cable does not have an in-line remote, and the on-board controls do not work when the power is off.

There is no physical connection necessary with these headphones. They are designed to work with Bluetooth compatable devices; like TV's, cell phones, book readers, music players, ect. I purchased my headphones to use with my Samsung UHD TV. I can stream movies and use the headphone to listen to them without worrying about the sound disturbing otherst.
