Product Research

Features

Overview: The HDR 180 is an accessory (or replacement) headset for the Sennheiser RS 180 wireless headphone system (sold separately).

Note: The HDR 180s are not stand-alone headphones. They must be used with a compatible Sennheiser wireless headphone system (such as RS 180, RS 170, RS 160).

Kleer Wireless Transmission Technology: The Sennheiser HDR 180 headphones feature the digital wireless audio transmission technology from Kleer (with a range up to 320' with the TX 180 transmitter). Kleer technology transmits uncompressed audio over a robust 2.4 GHz digital link (2.4-2.8GHz), enabling you to enjoy your music without the hassle of cables. Kleer technology will not interfere with wireless networks or other 2.4 GHz devices. Kleer's uncompressed digital wireless transmission delivers CD-quality sound.

Note: The 320' range is determined in optimum conditions, in an open area with no obstacles between the transmitter and headphones. Typical performance in a home environment will be somewhat less.

Batteries: Power for the headset is provided by two rechargeable "AAA" batteries (included) that fit into compartments in the headset. The batteries are recharged using the charger included with the RS 180 system. Fully charged batteries have an operating time of approximately 24 hours and require approximately 16 hours to recharge.

Auto Power Off: If there is no signal from the transmitter for more than 5 minutes, the headphones automatically switch to standby mode.

Controls:

  • Volume: volume up/down; on the right earcup
  • Balance: adjust left/right balance; on the right earcup
  • Multi-Function: power on/off, mute, multi-user operation; on the right earcup

Specifications:

  • Reception Frequency: 2.4-2.48 GHz
  • Modulation: MSK Digital
  • Frequency Response: 18-21,000 Hz
  • Maximum SPL: 106 dB
  • Weight: 7.4 oz

Q
While you are listening to the TV with the RS 180, can other people in the room, not wearing headphones, can listen to the TV?

You can have tv volume on and headset working at same time Although there is a slight delay in the headset and if tv volume is high enough it can be distracting. We tried to overcome this with a second headset. Worked fantastic wife's volume at one setting and mine at another. HOwever, it is a bit more complicated setting up second set. But worth it

Yes, at least the way we have ours setup. We have it connected with a rca connector. This way, we can connect it back and forth from the tv to the computer. When you have the volume turned up on the tv sound you can also have the headphones on & listen to the tv with them on, at the same time. I work weird hours & use them whenever my family is asleep. I'll be using them & not realize somebody had woke up & turned the tv volume up. Their awesome headphones! We have two pair that you can sync up & listen to the same thing on each one.

On my amplifier, which is a Denon, I use the the earphone jack on the front panel. This cuts out the audio over my speakers and my wife and I both listen over the headphones. I was told by one of the tech people that if you hook up to an available pair of audio output terminals on the back that you can have both. I do not use mine that way so I can't vouch for that statement.

Yes, other people in the room can listen to the TV. You also have the option of turning off the sound (muting) and with theHDR 180 you will hear the sound -- which incidentaslly is excellent!

A
Yes,absolutely. Just be aware that there can be a slight echo chamber effect for the person(s) wearing the headphones. If the external sound is loud enough you hear it despite the headphones, as well as the sound coming from the headphones. The two sounds rarely reach your ears at the same time, so there is a faint echo effect. If I keep the external sound at a reasonable level there is no problem. I think that this would be a potential problem for any system.

Yes, the TV volume can also be on.
jeff  Aug 14, 2014
A
yes. others still can listen to the TV from "the TV's speakers". I have the headset connected to the receiver headphone jack so while listening to the headset, the stereo speakers are shut off. But you can still turn the tv volume up and listen to the tv speakers. hope this helps.

Q
Is there any way to use these headphones to listen to music from an Ipod? I am pretty sure the answer is no, but just want to be sure I am not missing anything.

A
This is simply an "extra" wireless headset for the RS 180 set which includes a transmitter + wireless headset. There is nothing to connect to this wireless headset to make it work with anything else other than the original transmitter RS 180. If you're on a budget, get a lower model of Sennheiser wireless headset+transmitter since that'll work fine with your iPod. This more expensive model is more for watching TV and movies.
weili  Feb 18, 2014
A
Only if you plug the ipod directly into the base unit with a 3.5-mm audio connector.
chuck  Feb 18, 2014
A
Tough question. If you mean simply listen to an iPod from these headphones, then the answer is no. I have mine hooked up through my home theater system. I can use them with my Apple TV or mirror with them from an iPad or iPhone. I guess it would depend on how far you would go to listen to them like that.

Q
I want a new blu ray player but none of them have analog outputs anymore. How do I use the HDR180 without analog?
ap  Jan 05, 2014

Hook the HDR180 up to the analog outputs on your TV and not the Blu Ray player. TV's still come with analog audio out. This way you can listen to the Blu Ray and the TV.

We use ours by connecting to the headphone jack on an AV receiver.

Hopefully your tv has an analog out. I have vizio and have split the leadout from the tv so that I can run the hdr180 as well as the sennheiser rr840. Just make sure that you get the whole set... headphones and transmitter. The 840 is for the 102 year oldl
