They use the same speaker technology as some of Sennheiser's higher-end models to create truly natural-sounding music. The headband is reinforced with steel for maximum durability, and padded to provide hours of comfortable listening.

Outstanding Value

Jimbob from Los Altos, CA on 3/20/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent sound for the price. I have compared these both with my main speakers and my main headphones (Sennheiser HD 555, an over the ear design) and they compare very well. Bass is excellent, and I "base" that on bass drum and organ music as well as electronic bass. I found the mid-range and treble slightly shrill, but not offensive. Considering that the speakers cost about $1500 and the reference headphones about $250, the PX 100s are an incredible bargain. Comfort is pretty good; my outer ears start to feel the pressure after an hour or so, but I have listened for 2 hours without undue discomfort. I suppose this is inherent in the on-ear design. Although they have an "open" design, which does not isolate either incoming or outgoing sound, my wife has slept soundly with her head on my pillow while I was listening. They are reasonably compact when folded and come with a cloth pouch for transport and fit nicely in a jacket or briefcase pocket.

Pros: Bass response, comfort, compactness

Outstanding Portable Headphones

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my third pair of Sennheiser PX-100s. The first served me well for three years of living in my bag without a case of any kind. (I use these to listen to my iPod Touch.) Inevitably, they jostled around a lot and eventually got damaged. I am going to take better care of this pair. The second pair I bought as a gift. (The recipient was amazed by their quality.) I am not an audiophile, so I'll leave the detailed sonic analysis to others. All I can say is that music and speech sound clear and natural. I don't hear any exaggeration of bass or trebel, or anything that sounds artificial. These are not sound-cancelling headphones; they let in all ambient noise. This means that if you use them in a public place, all the sound around you will compete with your music. On the other hand, this makes them safer for on-the-go use, and useful if you want to be alert for anyone calling you. Overall, these headphones are unbeatable in their category, and a great bargain.

Pros: Excellent, realistic sound quality. Very lightweight and easy to wear for long periods of time. They fold up, so you can carry them around easily. Mini plug fits an iPod perfectly without an adapter. The cord is long enough to connect to a device in your pocket but not too long to get tangled. Incredible value for the money.

Cons: Sennheiser doesn't provide a hard case in which to store these when you're carrying them around. (They used to, but not now.) Unless you devise one of your own or handle them very carefully at all times, there's a good chance that you will damage them unwittingly. Because they're not sound-cancelling, you hear all the noise around you.

Nice value!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While these headphones are not the best headphones ever, they aren't very expensive either and they sound very very good indeed. They can't touch the sound of my very expensive Stax electostatics and they don't deliver the quality low end of the Grados, but neither of the above are suitable for taking up little space in a carry on case either. I also realize that around the ear headphones are better at isolating noise and coupling to the ear for better bass response. So why do I like these so much? Because they are very accurate, articulate and have a musical sound that blows away the typical ear buds or the headphones that come with most portable electronics. Plus, being open air type phones, I don't feel isolated from the goings on around me when I'm listening to them. They have a smooth high end that delivers exciting detail without ever getting harsh or edgy, a natural sounding midrange and an acceptable bass response, which is more than I would expect for the price. Plus they are so light you hardly know you have them on, and they fold up small for travelling. Overall, a great bang for the buck! BTW I like my music to sound natural, like real instruments. If you like overblown boom boom bass or bright sizzling highs, your opinion of these headphones will likely be vastly different from mine.

good, comfortable phones, but too much midbass

Pete from Ohio on 10/9/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted light, very comfortable phones for listening to TV late at night. These fill the bill. They are light and sit on top of the ear, rather than inside the pinea.. They are covered with a slightly nappy fabric, which "breathes" and is therefore more comfortable than the non-breathing fake leather than many on-the-ear phones use. They have a single cord, which prevents the annoying tangles you get with headphones that have one cable from each earpiece. They have a very clear midrange that isn't overly bright or shrill. They have too much midbass, which adds some boominess to music. It isn't a problem with dialogue or nonmusical TV shows.

Excellent but pricey

Joe N from CT on 8/15/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These headphones have excellent clarity and dynamic range. I actually prefer the original PX100 but I lost mine. The carry bag is cheap and does not compare to the hard case of the PX 100. The PX100II is more expensive but is not better than the original PX100. I compared them to a set of Sony clip-on headphones and the PX100II was entirely superior.
