Overview

Our take on the Sennheiser PX 100-IIi

A "get 'em while they last" special buy on these classics

The Sennheiser PX 100-IIi headphones are a longtime customer and employee favorite here at Crutchfield. Their simple, lightweight design reminds me fondly of the headphones I wore everywhere back in high school. But unlike those flimsy "foamies" that distorted my Wu-Tang, Nas, and Nirvana mixtapes, these PX 100-IIi headphones have substance. They deliver surprisingly spacious, hard-hitting sound with the Spotify playlists on my phone — many featuring the same artists I was listening to back then. (You are who you are, I guess.)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed over ear phones to listen to music on my iPhone at the gym because in-ear buds never stay put when working out. Would never have spent the full price for that purpose, but at the sale price it was worth a try. For starters, they fit well, are comfortable and stay in place. As for sound, they are fantastic and one can see why the high original price. But at the sale price, you will not find anything else that sounds even remotely as good as these. As soon as more became available I got another set for my wife. Both of us like the fact that we can still hear what's going on around us, so the only caveat would be if it's important to not be able to hear your surroundings, these are not for you. Some have complained about lack of bass but not being into hip hop, it's not an issue for us. Outstanding clarity with very well balanced highs, mids and lows.

I wanted to switch from ear buds to headphones for when I sleep. I have owned Sennheiser headphones for years and have always been impressed with the sound quality. These are a good size to wear in bed and the sound quality is great. I'm glad I got these at a great price too.

Nice replacement for earbuds

Kevin from Powell, OH on 2/22/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Based on the Crutchfield reviews, I purchased these Sennheiser heardphones to replace the standard Apple earbuds. So far I'm impressed,; they are lightweight and produce a good sound, and the price was right. Hopefully they're durable but like anything else if you take care of it, there's no reason it shouldn't last. So far I'm happy with this purchase.

Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, produce good sound.

Cons:

Good Sound - Compact

Perform beautifully and sound great. Only thing keep it from 5 stars is the quality, I am hoping the headphone is stronger than it looks.

Pros: Sound great

Cons: Quality

Great sound in lightweight headset

Marvin from Groveland, FL on 2/9/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent sound across the board for this lightweight and low profile set of headphones. This is not audiophile sound nor a tremendous spatial 3d soundfield, but that's not what I expected. If you want a lightweight portable set of headphones that sound great, then this is your set. Because they are "on ear" there is some sound leakage so not great at higher volumes for flights or sitting near others.

Pros: Very good sound Lightweight Portable

Cons: a little pricey for what you get

Super Set of headphones.

DebbieG from Luthvle Timon, MD on 1/28/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are wonderful headphones. I had an older headset and the foam padding is disintegrating. These are better made and the sound is superior. I really think this set is a huge improvement over my 100s.

Pros: Well made, bass and treble are clear. Easy to use and store.

Cons:

Great sound, super comfortable

David from Lancaster, CA on 1/27/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall great sounding, with a few reservations. Like the way these phones sound. Especially the open concept. If you are looking for noise canceling headphones these are not for you. Super comfortable. Although, have not used them at the gym yet. But I think they may not fit as sung as I would like with a robust workout.

Pros: Sound, comfortable

Cons: Could be a little tighter fit for gym use.

Sound yes, comfort no

Dex from San Jose, CA on 1/22/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sound quality. but feels fragile and too small. The pads don't cover my ears completely, so i can clearly hear surrounding noise. Not sure if its me, or the audio - felt a bit of headache after few min of use.

Pros: Sound quality

Cons: Too small for ears Partially cover ears, hear surrounding noise

Haven't had them long, but they seem like a great bang for the buck. The sound is great for this style of headphone. As I prefer over-ear phones, I use these running, and they are perfect - lightweight, good sound, good bass response, etc. And the volume/call control and fact that they fold up are extra bonuses.

Sennheiser has a legendary name in the headphone line but it is my first pair and they live up to their reputation. I was astounded at the sound quality from when switching from a pair of Apple ear buds. The bass response was much more powerful but it was the fullness of the sound that is really appreciated. Comfort level with the padded bar and foam earpieces is great too.

Hard to beat for portable earphones. I've kept various iterations of the Sennheiser PX100s in my car's glove box for 15 years or so. I use iPods, mainly the nano, to store and listen to books from Audible.com, and they're perfect for waiting in doctor's and dentist's office's since they're easily folded up for carrying around. This version controls the iPod volume and playback stop and start without having to remove the iPod from your pocket or where ever you have it stored.

Pros: open backed so you can still hear your name being called

Cons: none from my point of view

Fantastic Compact Headphones

Michael from Brooklyn, NY on 12/28/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love these headphones... and I own a half dozen different sets and sizes of headphones. The PX100-ii-i has a fantastic FLAT sonic profile, so if you're used to the hyped highs of, say, Sony headphones these will sound soft on the high end. But the warmth is generous with the low end and mids and presents a balanced sound. The open nature of the earcups make them indispensable for my daily NYC commute and for walking about the city; delivering great sound while not totally blocking the outside world. And they are fantastic for gabbing on the phone in a noisy urban environment. The caveat is that they are DELICATE in their construction. Also, the wire tends to easily catch onto passing protrusions such as handrails and doorknobs, so they are prone to destruction by being suddenly yanked.

Pros: Balanced, warm sound. Open earcup, so you can still hear oncoming speeding buses.

Cons: Delicate construction. Cord can easily catch and get yanked.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound really nice and they are light so I almost forgot I was wearing them a couple times. Also my ears don't get hot like with some closed headphones. Had trouble getting the mic to work on a PS4 but it worked on the iPhone so maybe there was just something wrong with the playstation.

Lightweight, comfortable, good sound

Rosamund from Brooklyn, NY on 12/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with these so far: lightweight, comfortable, and good sound. I much prefer the on-the-ear design to in-ear headphones which always manage to fall out or feel uncomfortable. Of course the quality doesn't match that of expensive, high-end phones but it perfectly adequate. The foldability is a big plus too although on a crowded NYC subway train they are a little more cumbersome to unfold than a compact pair of earbuds. Also they don't offer any external noise reduction (again that noisy train) but I wasn't expecting that. Bought them on sale so very happy with the value!

Pros: lightweight, comfortable, good sound, portable, great value, good for phone use

Cons: Fiddly to unfold No external noise reduction Not audiophile
