Wireless on-ear headphones with transmitter

Overview

Our take on the Sennheiser RS 135-9

As the parent of a three-year-old, I have to pick and choose when I watch my favorite special effects-filled TV shows. It's not like I can turn on Game of Thrones in the middle of playtime. The Sennheiser RS 135-9 wireless headphone systems lets you watch TV with exciting, detailed sound, even when others are asleep.

Watch TV or listen to music on your own time

Sennheiser RS 135-9 wireless headphones

Plug the transmitter a 3.5mm minijack audio output on your TV or a headphone output on your stereo system.

The on-ear headset has an open-back design for spacious sound from movies, shows, and music. Some sound does escape. But they're certainly more sleep-friendly than blasting the volume on your TV or stereo system

Huge wireless range and rechargeable headset batteries

You plug in the included transmitter the same way you would connect a set of wired ‘phones. It connects to your TV's stereo RCA or 3.5mm minijack audio output, and you also get a 1/4" adapter to accommodate a full-size headphone jack on a stereo system. The radio frequency (RF) transmitter has a maximum range of 330 feet and can send its signal through walls and ceilings. The headphones are powered by included "AAA" rechargeable batteries. With the batteries inserted, just hang the headphones atop the transmitter and charging will automatically begin. You'll get up to 20 hours of use with a full charge.

Soft padding and earcup dials for easy control

When you're binge-watching TV or listening to music for long stretches, comfort is key. The RS 135-9's lightweight headset features soft cloth earcups that rest on your ears. Extra padding lines the top of the headband. The volume control is built for leisure, too — it's located on the right earcup, along with a tuning dial to keep the wireless signal strong, so you don't have to get up to make adjustments.

After checking out a number of Earphones for my hearing impaired Mother I decided to go with these. Unfortunately the TV had no place to hook the Earphones up to and I had to call customer support. They were great and after checking out the problem came up with a solution that worked. Mom is now listening to TV and hearing it a whole lot better. Definitely worth getting.

Jack from Hillsboro, OH on 1/16/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The headphones work well, however there is quite a bit of static when you are moving. I lose signal at about 18+ feet, which is far less than advertised. They serve my purpose of watching TV when others are sleeping. I had to also purchase two different items; a toslink cable and a Metra ethereal box. I figured out how to hook it up, but there is no directions on how to connect the toslink cable. First time connection is always more time consuming. As I read on other reviews, the headphones do not stay on your head easily when up and moving.

Pros: Good sound

Cons: static and lose signal from 18+ feet

The headphones were easy to set up and my dad is absolutely loving the freedom of listening to television while not disrupting my mom! Plus the freedom move around is amazing. Wearing the headphones, you can walk into other areas of the house while still hearing the program or music you are listening to. Just a huge thank you also to Sam at Crutchfield who made the recommendation for this particular set of headphones and who offered help in set up and questions! Highly recommend these for anyone.

My 97 year old mother-in law is thrilled. Neighbors are no longer complaining about volume on tv. Headphones are comfortable also. Only complaint is that she has to be careful adjusting volume and not tuning. They're too close together.

Pros: Great sound and very comfortable

Cons: Tuning and volume switches to close together. Easy to make a mistake.

Love these headphones

Rich from Lake Worth, FL on 5/28/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an older set of the same headphones and these are a definite improvement. I've notices an improvement in both sound and reception at extended distances. I had one complaint with the old ones and was unhappy to see they haven't fixed it on the new model. The placement of the volume control and fine tuning are easy to confuse so I spend a lot of time retuning them, especially after my wife uses them. I'm happy to report that the older pair is still in use in our guest room, and they are about 10 years old. We were told we should get the extended warranty as the batteries won't last forever and they're not cheap. When mine went south, I replaced them with regular Duracell rechargables and have had no issues. Don't waste money on the warranty!

Pros: Great sound, comfortable, easy to use.

Cons: Volume and tuning controls to close.

Pros: - high quality product - comfortable - great sound and range

Cons: - installation may be tricky depending your a/v setup - every visitors wants to take it home

I got this for a gift and it turned out to be brilliant! Shipping was fast and order was as described. Recipient says headphones are more comfortable than the ones he was using before. Special note: go to Sennheiser's website and follow the instructions and watch the video, if there is one. We had a complicated installation and this made it SOOO much easier! We are very happy with these, and would order again!

These Sennheiser RS 135-9 work as advertised. I can walk a couple hundred feet out of the house and with minimal interference, a couple steel storage buildings may cause some interference. Sennheiser RS 135-9

Rasheed from Jamaica , NY on 5/26/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you have an extremely large head, these headphones are made especially for you . For regular citizens, these phones fit very loosely on the head with very grip or tension- A sudden abrupt turn could result in a dislodging of the unit Performs well once within range of transmitter , but move on to another room about 30 feet away and you may encounter unnecessary static (no it has nothing to do with the concrete walls , as I owned a much cheaper model from another company before and that unit work wonderfully well - item since replaced by upgraded model)

Pros: Ear pads are quite comfortable and the rechargeable batteries provide a cost savings

Cons: Loose fitting headphones ; Performance too staggered away from transmitter.

Top Notch wireless headset

Bill B from Syracuse, NY on 5/24/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My neighbor asked me to set up his wireless headset that he had bought the day before at a local store. It was terrible. Both the headset and the transmitter had to be charged using USB ports on his TV. When a green light turns on for each item, you can use the product. I showed him my Sennheiser headset. He loved the idea that when you are through watching TV, you turn off the headset and place it in the charging cradle and walk away. It will be ready when you want to watch TV again. Great Product.

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser RS 135 RF Wireless headphone system consists of a pair of wireless headphones (HDR 135) and a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (TR 135). The system is designed to enhance the sound of your TV or home audio source, and to give you the freedom to walk around your home with the headphones on.

Wireless Headphones: The HDR 135's wireless headphones feature an open, supra-aural (on-ear) design. The soft-padded ear cups and headband provide hours of listening comfort. The headphones have the power control left ear cup, and volume and tuning controls on the right ear cup. Two charging contacts are located on the inside of the headband. With the batteries installed, the HDR 135 headphones weigh 7.9 ounces.

TR 135 Transmitter: The transmitter connects to your television's or audio system's audio output via the attached RCA cable (82" length). The audio is transmitted on the 900 MHz band (926.15 to 927.55 MHz) with FM stereo modulation. The extended transmission range is approximately 328 feet (100 meters) with reception through walls and ceilings. The transmitter is powered by a 9-volt DC power supply/AC adapter. The transmitter features a convenient charging stand for the headphones that extends above the top of the transmitter. Two keyhole slots are provided on the back to allow you to wall-mount the transmitter, if desired.

Audio Connections: The transmitter has an attached audio cable with stereo RCA plugs. Two adapters are included: a female stereo RCA-to-male 3.5mm (1/8") plug, and a female 3.5mm-to-1/4" (6.3mm) plug.

Rechargeable Batteries: The headphones are powered by two (included) "AAA" rechargeable NiMH batteries (1.2V, 600mAh). The batteries fully charge in approximately 18 hours when placed on the charging stand. Typical battery life is approximately 22 hours of use. Standard, non-rechargeable "AAA" batteries should not be used in the headphones.

Additional Headsets: The optional Sennheiser HDR 120 wireless headphones, sold separately, can be used as a second set of headphones for the RS 135-9 system. They operate on the same frequency band with FM stereo modulation. Multiple pairs of headphones can be used simultaneously with the RS 135-9 wireless system.

2 questions already asked

I don't think so, I have mine connected to a Home Theatre set, and have to turn down the sound from the Amplifier/Receiver to use my head phones. Also, the head band on mine does not "fit" tight enough; and if you move your head a little too quick, they fall off! [ Dennis  Oct 30, 2017 ]
Yes, volume directly from the television is independent of the headphones. The headphone wearer can adjust to suit his or her preferences, and the other people in the room can adjust the volume of the television -- one does not affect the other. [ J Christopher  Oct 30, 2017 ]
I purchased these as a gift. They plug into the aux. Not sure if that would shut off the sound on all TVs. If you had more headsets/reievers they should function. An aux adapter would allow a wired. Headset to be connected. Hope that answers your quuestion. [ Kenneth  Oct 30, 2017 ]

Absolutely. Most modern TVs have audio outputs (RCA type) that do not cut out the TV's speakers. The headphones have their own volume control. [ Dr. James  Oct 29, 2017 ]
Yes just control the TV volume as normal. [ CHARLES R  Oct 29, 2017 ]
Yes other viewers can still hear the t.v. while you use your headphones or you can mute the t.v. and just hear it through the headphones [ MIKE  Oct 29, 2017 ]
Over-the-ear phones completely cover your ears so as to seal out external noise and also to prevent sound leakage from inside. On the other hand, on-the-ear phones are smaller and rest on your ears. [ Rosmadi  Jan 06, 2017 ]  Works for Sennheiser
