Crutchfield: Sennheiser RS wireless headphones
The RS 195 includes a comfortable pair of over-the-ear headphones and a wireless transmitter. It has several listening modes and sound boosts to compensate for personal hearing needs and preferences (remote not included).
If you have trouble hearing movie dialogue or tend to crank up your home audio system until those around you cry "uncle," the Sennheiser RS 195 wireless headphone system can help. It includes several listening modes that address specific hearing needs. Select dedicated presets to boost speech, suppress annoying loud noises, and compensate for quieter television scenes. A dedicated music mode lets you use your customized listening profile to make the most of your tunes.
Connect the included wireless transmitter to your TV or stereo's optical digital or analog output, put the headphones on, and listen. Roam around the room freely and control your own volume. You'll enjoy sound tailored to your own ears.
Comfort is important when choosing any headphones, but especially those used for extended listening sessions. The RS 195's headset features thick padding on the headband and earcups, so you can enjoy its crystal-clear sound for long periods. If you need to adjust the volume, don't worry — you won't need to get up or mess with the TV remote. There are built-in volume buttons on the right earcup, along with a button to scroll through the different listening modes.
Need to run to the fridge, and don't want to miss a beat of music or a line of dialogue? Sennheiser's wireless link technology gives you a listening range of up to 328 feet. The headset and transmitter are paired at the factory, so there's no need to do it yourself. The headphones are powered by "AAA" rechargeable batteries (included). With the batteries inserted, just hang the headphones atop the transmitter and charging will automatically begin. You'll get up to 18 hours of use with a full charge.

Almost perfect. Maximum volume could be a little louder
Pros: Great sound quality
Cons: Could be a little louder on max volume
Great system. For anyone with a decrease in hearing specific ranges, this system will solve your problems.
Very good both in sound and comfort. I wish the sound adjustments were on the headset or in a remote, as In my arrangements the device base is out of reach. I would buy it again.
Sounds like you are in the theater with out interfering with family members in the house
I am hearing elements in even my frequently-played music that I never heard before. These puppies are great. I would buy them again, or a second pair for my wife.
With the RS 195 wireless headphones plugged in to our widescreen TV, Netflix movie dialog I previously couldn't understand is now generally clear and understandable, solving a thorny issue between my wife and me (me: "can't we turn up the volume another notch?"; her: "I can't stay in the room with the sound that loud!"). Thank you, Sennheiser and Crutchfield!
Pros: The device really does function well. Simple to use, no worries about recharging the batteries (automatically done whenever the headphones are returned to their cradle), comfortable to wear.
Cons: Expensive (otherwise 5 stars without question).
Bought an open Box special and could not be happier. These headphones are easy to setup and sound great with either music or movies.
Pros: Easy set up
Cons: Needs adaptor for stereo components with larger headphone port.
Our purpose in purchasing these headphones is to improve the muddy voices in regular movies and some TV movie productions. It seems that our more modern sound engineers are so impressed with their background music that they don't really care if we hear what the actors are saying. This headphone system helps significantly in isolating the voice frequency levels. So far, my only negative is that after wearing these headphones for an extended period of time they feel tight on my head. It would be good to have some sort of adjustment for this clamping tightness. The ear pieces do adjust up and down for the proper cupping of the ears, however. The sound adjustments for volume and "voice" levels are very precise and effective.
I have been very pleased with the RS1 95 from Sennheiser. The multiple I just mentioned available for hearing clarity especially those for the hearing impaired as well as your adjustments available for music and TV sound thank this first choice for anyone who has Hearing impairments. Having had the opportunity to use a Bluetooth device that was available with my hearing aid purchase, give me an unreliable Device that I had sent in for repairs and three occasions in two years. There is no such problem with the Sennheiser RS 195, as it is consistently reliable and allows me to hear the television without relying on close caption. The battery life is extraordinary and certainly reach is the 18 to 20 hours from us and it's advertising. I was able to get good consultation from advisers at Crutchfield to make my choice and the price drop that recently occurred made this an excellent purchase. Having struggles with listening to TV programming for a number of years this and Iser headphones have solve the problem. He just wants allow me to rectify the higher pitch softer tone Voices of females I am more than satisfied with this purchase.
Pros: Son quality and adjustments available for the hearing impaired.
Cons: no kinds that I can report after two months of use.
Years ago I purchased the HDR-45 with good results, but eventually the proprietary batteries failed to hold a charge...and replacements were no longer available. The 195 is vastly superior to my original Sennheiser earphones, and now all these years later, I need the extra features to really enjoy my time not only hearing the dialog on TV, but truly relishing the full spectrum of sound whilst listening to fine music. As you age, your hearing starts to fade...and until you experience the power of the 195, you have no idea of what you are actually missing ! Thank you, Sennheiser !
Pros: Great fidelity and quality of sound.
Cons: A little pricey...I hope you can afford them...it's worth the price.
Comparing the rs 195 to the rs 120, I find the rs 120 to be superior. The rs 120 has better clarity and the volume can be adjusted, whereas the rs 195 has a limit on the volume when using any of the modes.
The headphones work well with the TV. Please consider upgrading with a radio and a button to shut off the sound and turning it back on with the same volume.
Excellent pair of Headphones. Now I can clearly hear TV conversations and music programs. It was easy to install from the included paper directions and the YouTube videos. The available choices of digital optical (1.5 m long fiber optic cable included) and analog cable (2 x 3.5mm plugs on a 6m long cable) means it can be used on practically any electronic device with an audio output. I would recommend these phones for anyone wanting a private listening experience too! The available modes allow the sound you hear to be adjusted to suit your preference or hearing. I normally leave it in the center mode (normal headphones-no boost no cutting of frequencies). The volume limiting feature is a good added safety feature to prevent further damage to my hearing. Listening to overly loud concerts as a teenager has resulted in this premature loss of hearing conversational level sounds at an early age. The wireless range is sufficient for me to listen to my TV while walking around in my basement too.
Pros: Easy to install and use. Widely variable dynamic range with frequency cut and boost settings to customize the sound to your hearing needs and preferences. Quality product.
Cons: Expensive. Bulky and may become uncomfortably heavy after a while.
I've got two models 185 and 195 to find out for myself what works better for me. I was planning to watch TV and occasionally listen to music on Amazon fire TV. TV and Amazon would have connected to a receiver through digital cables and then receiver is connected to headphones through another digital audio cable. Now, 185 produces great rich sound when listening to a music and great surround sound when watching movies. I was afraid it's not good enough for movies but it turned to be just a way I like to get sound from movies. 195 has different modes. I did not find those modes useful unless you must to increase a volume of voice/speech. 195 also limits how much maximum volume you can get from it, and it's not acceptable. As 185 is clearly a winner I returned 195.
LOVED my RS-195 that I bought two years ago. The sonic power could almost lift them off my head, and the bass was incredible. I never even got CLOSE to maxing them out...I was afraid to. I was so impressed that I bought a second set from Crutchfield...and the PC police have ruined what I already paid for and was happy with. Not only does my new RS-195 not perform...but now my original RS-195 BEEPS AT ME when I get "too loud". I'm sending this piece of garbage back to Crutchfield. Crutchfield? We've known each other for a long time...its unfortunate that our first dealings in so many years is tainted by Sennheiser thinking they can enact their will on me. That they think they can degrade a product I already paid them for!
This item was easy to set up through the optical output of my television. They are extremely comfortable to wear, even during 3-4 hours of watching television. The adjustments are easy to use, and easy to understand. These are a perfect solution for TV watching for someone that had difficulty hearing dialogue on TV broadcasts. It is even a great solution for people that don't have that problem. Great product all around, superior quality!
Pros: Easy Set Up, Easy Adjustments, Variety of Adjustments, Product Quality, Overall Satisfaction!
This headphone set is a good choice for aging ears. Makes it worth the high price. It also avoids the pesky surround sound problem (TV speakers on for one listener, Headphones on for the aging ear: no delay between the two; delay is present and not adjustable on many TV sets). On-The-Headset controls need "braille" markings: hard to adjust except by sight.
Pros: see review
Cons: see review
I bought this headset because the specs looked impressive. I was however disappointed with the overall low volume. Using either RCA or Fiber Optics, the volume at the headset needed to be set at the max setting. I next tried an mp3 player with same results. Even when I used the headphone output jack from my receiver, the volume was disappointing. It seemed as if there was a governor limiting the volume. If I had bought these locally, I would have returned them.

very pleased BUT when used connected to my avr(output to avr is via USB to Schiit Gungnir dac then RCA's to avr using SonicStreamSq+, Channel D PAD, or ROON streaming TIDAL,Qobuz,SPOTIFY,ROONLABS,BeatsMusic) a lot of dropouts deadspace even when moving less than 50-100 feet. i tried moving the transmitter away from space where my sound system is still frequent drop outs couldn't even go on my deck the minute i crossed onto deck DEADSPACE, finally moved the transmitter to the dining room and connected rs 195 to my ipad air 2 and put the transmitter on the dining room table and VIOLA! sound everywhere on the first floor of my 1906 home with 3 floors and basement-deck, back/front porch/family room(a 1994 addition)tho can't use ROON-no ipad app. between songs if gapless is not capable the deadspace is "black" no static nothing.using the toslink to my 42" LG monitor/TV the sound for movies tv shows is excellent BUT i have to move the transmitter back to where my mac mini, TW cable box is which is slightly annoying but i can use my sennheiser 598's for that or my 7.1 sound system so its not a big deal. my CFO thinks it absurd i paid what i did for these 'cans' but they are great with the exception of their reported 300+ feet distance being far less than that but in an old,old house with 20yo addition. i have at least the whole first floor and dec and porches 'covered' i use the music mode exclusively keep the 'hearing'/ear in center to (l) 'dull' to(R) to(L)to much treble
Pros: see above sound quality is wonderful, quality is better then when using my sennheiser 598's connected to my Schiit magni headphone amp or directly to my avr AND is even better than listening to my 7.1 system!must be the closed headphones and my aging ears! the phones are very comfortable and not at all fatiguing. your live chat/support was great prior to making my purchase
Cons: see above the distance they really work is far less than reported-would be nice to have 'signal booster' or something so could i leave the transmitter where the rest of my equipment is.
Really impressive wireless product allowing you freedom of movement using RF transmission. I keep these hooked to my stereo system using it's analog RCA inputs and to my TV using the optical input. You choose which source via a switch on the back of the transmitter. Up for optical and down for analog. I really like the product even though I prefer open back headphones for their larger soundstage and these are closed back. For open back you would have to step back to less expensive RS185. What is great for me is the many sound options these offer. Three choices right on the headphone. I tend to use the music setting for my stereo and normal for TV. If TV dialog is hard to discern other choices are available and maybe one of those choices will work for you.
Pros: Flexibility of listening choices.
Cons: Closed back design (like most headphones). Quite good but I prefer open back (a personal choice)
Exactly what I need to listen to the TV or music when my wife does not want to hear the noise. You need to be patient with the batteries getting charged the first time - it took over 24 hours. Now seems to recharge easily. Slightly tight fit on head, and somewhat heavy, but excellent choice for what I need. I have not yet played with the special filters to help with hearing defects, but I already have some high frequency loss and want to have options in the future. These are expensive but have the capability of adjusting to aging hearing resolution.
Pros: Well built. Excellent sound quality. Special capabilities for hearing assist when needed
Cons: Somewhat heavy and somewhat tight.
I have high frequency hearing loss and bought these so my wife could have the TV volume where she likes it and I can have this headset at the level I am comfortable with. I couldn't be happier with them. I use the combo music/speech mode and the frequency assist at the F level with my hearing aids removed. It sounds great at this setting. I have found that I can understand even soft spoken words without having to have the volume loud. I now enjoy watching movies again-even action flicks where the sounds go from very loud to just whispers. Our large screen TV is in our great room and the distance from the speakers to my chair is considerable. Plus it is open to the kitchen and if there are people cooking or doing dishes the background noise makes it difficult to hear. The headphones completely eliminated these issues. I also enjoy the fact that I can watch the TV at night with the set volume off and just use the headphones. The wife can sleep away and I can enjoy late night TV. I also like the fact that I can walk all around our 5000 sq ft home and still listen to the TV.
Pros: Great sound quality and very high quality construction.
Cons: Headphones can get warm on your ears after a while - not terribly so, just a bit annoying. A small price to pay for a great listening experience.
well I bought this set because the spec seem good for someone with hear problems (hard of hearing) -- well this set does not live up to it's hype - with the settings set up for voice sounds -- it sounds like some one is talking down a paper towel roll and with ether using the RCA jacks or the fiber inputs the volume at the earphone is only at max just at normal volume (for me) and no more left to turn it up --- the specs says 117Dbm - that is very high - what is coming out of the earphones is no where near that -- these headphones seem like they are designed with the hard of hearing -- you would think at 117Dbm you could really crank them up - but no go -- I have an much older TR140 set that with the same TV input I only have to turn half way up -- so when in a movie they are whispering I have room to turn up the volume -- I was hoping the RS-195 would replace my 15 year old TR-140 set
Pros: sounds good in the music mode
Cons: see reviewCrutchfield response on 2/17/2015 For maximum volume you will want to be sure to disable any presets. The presets run an algorithm that focuses on frequency separation for improved hearing ability. However, they also limit the volume.
Overview: The Sennheiser RS 195 Digital Wireless headphone system consists of a pair of wireless headphones (HDR 195) and a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (TR 195). The system is designed to enhance the sound of your TV or your home audio source, and to give you the freedom to walk around your home with the headphones on.
Wireless Headphones: The HDR 195's wireless headphones feature a circum-aural (around-the-ear), closed design to significantly reduce background noise. The soft-padded ear cups and headband provide hours of listening comfort. The headphones have controls on the right ear cup: power on/off, volume up, volume down, and mode. With the batteries installed, the HDR 195 headphones weigh approximately 12 ounces.
TR 195 Transmitter: The transmitter connects to your television's or audio system's audio output via the included 3.5mm cable or optical digital cable (supports 2ch PCM only). You can switch between the two inputs with a provided toggle switch. The audio is transmitted on the 2.4 GHz band (2.40 to 2.48 GHz) with 8-FSK Digital modulation. The extended transmission range is approximately 328 feet (100 meters) without obstructions. (Typical performance with obstructions will be somewhat less.) The transmitter is powered by a 9-volt DC power supply/AC adapter. Adapter plugs for the US, Europe, UK, and Australia are provided, allowing for use in other countries. The transmitter doubles as a convenient charging cradle for the headphones. Transmitter dimensions: 4.96"W x 9.264"H x 3.96"D.
Listening Modes: The RS 195's transmitter features three listening modes for tailoring the sound to your individual preferences. By pressing the Mode button on the transmitter or the right ear cup on the headphones, you can select Normal, Speech (for clearer dialogues), or Music (for increased dynamic range for music).
Personal Hearing: The RS 195 wireless headphone system can be used to enhance your hearing. The Personal Hearing feature offers seven hearing profiles, each with different sound optimizations and hearing profiles. You can select the profile that works best for your personal hearing experience, using the rotary dial on the front of the transmitter (marked A through G), or pressing the Mode button on the headphone's right ear cup.
Balance Control: The left/right audio balance can be adjusted by turning the rotary balance control on the front of the transmitter.
Rechargeable Batteries: The headphones are powered by the two included "AAA" rechargeable NiMH batteries (1.2V, 820mAh). The batteries fully charge in approximately 8.5 hours, when placed on the top of the transmitter. Battery life is approximately 18 hours of use. Standard, non-rechargeable "AAA" batteries may be used in the headphones, but the headphones must not be placed on the charging cradle.
Auto Power Off: If there is no signal from the transmitter for more than 5 minutes, the headphones automatically switch to standby mode. If the headphones are outside the transmission range or switched to off for more than 5 minutes, the transmitter automatically switches to standby mode.

My spouse has developed a high frequency hearing loss over time. Headphones are helpful for her so the volume doesn't need to be overly loud on the surround sound system. She's very happy with this solution and so am I! This particular headphone is really designed with this type of application in mind and does it very well. [ Robert Gregory Jan 25, 2017 ]

I wanted to compare with the RS 175. I have hearing loss and wear top of the line hearing aids. The hearing aids work perfectly in a conversational situation.; but I cannot understand a single word on the TV (turning up the volume does not help in any way). After 1year of avoiding being in any room with the TV on; I am ready to solve my situation. I have done extensive online research. I am confident that the RS 195 or the RS 175 will be a perfect solution. [ Karen Dec 07, 2015 ]
