The lightweight headset sports in-ear headphones and an easy-to-use volume dial.
Sennheiser's SET 840 TV system lets you wirelessly listen to your movies, TV shows, and music around the house or yard. Connect the included transmitter to your TV or audio system. It sends audio signals to the headphones, covering a range of up to 100 feet.
The lightweight receiver includes flexible in-ear headphones that rest just inside your ears for hours of comfortable listening. A single charge of the receiver's battery provides up to nine hours of use. The transmitter automatically turns off when not in use.
This system is dialed-in to improve the sound of speech. It makes the dialogue in shows, movies, or the news clearer and easier to hear. At the push of a button, you can also set the transmitter to suit your listening preference — like boosting treble. Use the balance control to fine tune the amount of volume in the left or right ear.

My husband just started using this product yesterday after it was installed and he loves it. He hears the television much clearer.
My husband loves this headset for the bedroom. Very easy to hook up. 100 times better than tv ears!
My hearing is really really bad. I have used closed caption for years, but I missed the sound. I saw this product on the Crutchfield website, and after some indecision, I bought one. As usual, Crutchfield was really fast in their delivery. I unboxed the unit, and since I had already downloaded and fully read the manual, I knew how to connect to my TV. After allowing the battery to fully charge, I cranked up Netflix and started up MST3K. My eyes got misty because I could actually hear and understand what TV's Frank and Dr. Forrester were singing (LA LA LA). I would recommend this product to anyone who cannot understand the dialogue on TV or movies. I found myself looking at the closed captioning less and less. My hearing has been so bad for so long that I forget that I can hear when using some implement like this. Thanks, Sennheiser and thanks Crutchfield! BTW, this is the first 5 rating I have ever given a product.
Pros: Great control over tone and the 3 levels of voice amplification.
Cons: 1. Had to order spare batteries from someone other than Crutchfield. 2. The headset is a tad heavy, but I offset that by sitting back, relaxing and letting gravity take hold.
great product, good price, and excellent help on the phone. I use them for watching t v, and it keeps my bride of 45 years off my butt about the volume of the t. v. thanks for helping me out.
Pros: perfect for my needs
We could not be happier with our purchase, after purchasing several sets of TV Ears only to have them break after a short time we are hopeful this will out last them. Much better sound than TV Ears ever had.
This is a great product for people with hearing problems, the sound quality is very good.
I am very happy with my new Sennheiser SET 840 TV cordless Earphones (my second set). The technical support I received in the process of determining I needed a new was superb - patient in the face of great difficulties, and ingenious arriving at a conclusion. The earphones are wonderful, my life much easier (my husband doesn't want to hear the TV. Altogether, Crutchfield has great products and great service.
Excellent product. I have very bad hearing. With this product I am able to hear and understand words. My hearing is restricted to the very base sounds but with the Sennheiser 840 TV listening system I can now hear the higher sounds. I highly recommend to anyone with hearing problems.
Sound is very good. Headset is very heavy and pulls down on ears. Because of shape of ear inserts, sound is directed directikly against ear drum. For me, after less than thee hours, my ears started to hurt and they were ringing. Recommend this for short term use only --- less than one hour at a time.
Pros: Good sound for people with trouble hearing vocal sounds.
Cons: Heavy weight on ears
I have two pair of Sennheiser headphones one wired one wireless - Both produce an exceptional audio field with wonderful clarity and are an absolute treat to put on and listen to. I purchased this product as a gift for my mother - I placed my trust in the Sennheiser name and thought I was purchasing another great audio product but this time I was wrong. I hooked 'em up and gave 'em a try and the audio field was in a word Awful. This product from my experience is pure utter crap and are completely Worthless. Avoid This Product - It really is that bad. Caveat emptor.
Pros: Promising design. The packaging was nice.
Cons: Bass reproduction - non existent . Mid-range flat. High were harsh and tinny. Simple ear buds for a 3 year old cell phone produced a better sound.
Great product. I have lost my upper hearing range and have a hard time hearing dialog over background music and sound effects. With the Sennheiser SET 840 TV I can clearly hear the dialog and even the background music is much crisper. I would recommend it to anyone with hearing loss
Pros: Easy to use. You can mute the TV speakers so you do not disturb others around you. Always charged and ready to go.
Cons: At first the unit felt a little heavy when wearing it. Within a couple of days you get used to it.
Sound is great and allows me to understand the TV sound. No longer need to turn up the TV volume.
Pros: Sound Quality, Easy to use. Sturdy. Previously used TV Ears which were pitiful. Well worth the money. Also Sennheiser has an excellent warranty which I have had the occasion to use in the past.
Cons: Weight of headset may be a distraction but you get used to it..
Easy to interface with Sony tv. Works very well with very good sound.
Pros: Easy to set up, easy to use and easy to listen to.
Cons: Can' mute tv without losing audio to the headphones
Sound quality is excellent. I replaced a Sennheiser set from 5 years ago and was blown away with the improvement. So good, I bought a second set for another TV. I find them comfortable and love the ability to walk around without losing the sound.
Pros: Excellent sound, comfortable and good quality.
Cons: None I found so far.
Love the set! The voice enhancement makes watching TV fun again!!!
Pros: Sound, Voice Enhancement, Quality of Build
Cons: Headset is a little heavy but having the volume control there is worth it!
Good enough, I bought a second pair. Once you get used to the "ear buds", the comfort is good. Sound quality is "crisp", "sharp", and "clear.
Pros: Just a quality product
Really enjoy these headphones, this is actually my second set and these may actually be superior to my previous set. would highly recommend these for comfort and sound quality
Pros: great quality sound, very comfortable to wear for long periods of time
Cons: would really be great if they had more connection options (fiber optic), you do need to be a bit gentle to avoid damaging would not recommend them for young kids
My father enjoys using this headset. It is not too heavy and the reception allows him to listen to the news while in the dining room. The quality compared to other TV headsets on the market is much better.
I am totally satisfied with the device because it provides a major improvement in my TV listening. My wife can set the TV volume 10 db lower than when I had to listen through the speakers. However, I do have some hum that I have not been able to get rid of. Otherwise I would give it all 5 stars.
My wife needs the radio/TV volume much higher than I do. A personal head set that allows her to adjust the volume for her listening needs benefits both. She found a preferred setting by trying the different speech intelligibility settings on the transmitter. The weight of the headset does not bother her but after a few hours she'll remove it to rest her ears. If she is eating she hangs the receiver behind her head to avoid a spill on the headset. She says "they work good and don't flatten my hair". (Women will understand) A good instruction manual and good Crutchfield customer service.
Pros: Excellent sound
Cons: Expensive at regular price but the Crutchfield sale price sure helped.
Finally I can enjoy my favorite TV shows and movies without my wife, and the downstairs neighbor, complaining that the sound to too loud. While I control the sound level in my ears my wife controls the sound level from our external sound box. It's a win win situation. There's no delay when changing stations and with easy access to the volume control, station and commercial sound level differences are not an issue. Should have bought this years ago.
Pros: Quality made, long battery charge, easy access to volume control, quick charging.
Cons: A bit uncomfortable and somewhat heavy only eyes.
I have a high-frequency hearing loss. (Too much time around Navy jets with no hearing protection available). Have been using various models of TV Ears for years but recently when using them I don't understand what is being said. The Set840TV gives me better clarity. Occasionally, I still don't understand what is being said.
Pros: Very good sound clarity, much better than TV Ears, in my opinion.
Cons: Because my home theatre setup of a good receiver and surround sound is completely wasted on me & my wife, I wish to de-clutter the living room by getting rid of all the speakers and the receiver and replace them with a good sound bar (for my wife to listen to) and a new big-screen TV. Problem may arise because the Sennheiser Set840TV requites an analog input and most new TVs and sound bars don't have analog outputs. What can I do and still use the Seinheiser Set840TV?.Crutchfield response on 7/29/2014 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. I think it is fair to say that with anything new, there is a learning process. The headset came with 3 different ear buds. I tried all three and found that the foam ear buds were perfect. The silicone ear buds became a little uncomfortable after about 30 minutes of having them in my ears. My wife had the same reaction as I did. I like the fact that the headset turns itself on when placing it on your head and off after 30 seconds when you remove them from your head. As my wife and I are a little hard of hearing the control on the transmitting base station has a 4 step adjustment that allows the treble to be increased as needed. I initially purchased the Sennheiser RS170 and found the ear cups not to my liking as they became slightly warm after prolonged use. With the aid of a customer care rep, The return process was very easy. We are totally happy with the Sennheiser SET 840 TV product and would recommend this product to anyone that does not like a headset that has the ear cups engulf the entire ear. In closing, READ the instructions provided a couple of times and the setup will become very clear and the product will become very easy to adjust to your individual needs.
Pros: Very easy to setup, very good quality construction and excellent sound. With the 3 different sets of ear buds, one will find what is best for their own comfort.
Cons: None that I can think of
My wife can know watch TV without blasting us out of the darn room
Pros: Functional, comfortable, worth the expense
The sound is great. We bought these for Grandma, she is now nearly 90 and is very careful with things, but the plastic 'teeth' that hold the soft ear buds on have broken teeth so that the ear buds fall off frequently. Sadly this has apparently been a problem for quite some time, but she never mentioned it until they were out of warranty and to repair it requires replacing the entire arm. For the price they should be better build, in looking the teeth are very small thin plastic pieces. Grandma also does not like the weight of the headphones hanging in her ears, she prefers the over the ear model. Her other complaint is that when you are sitting watching TV, the volume dial rests on your chest, as you shift positions the sound goes in & out. They seemed well made at first, but it's been just barely over the two year warranty period and they are barely usable.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: The piece holding the ear bids on is easily broken They are heavy in your ears The sound flutters in and out with position shifting
Bought this product to boost TV sound for wife and myself. Other than a few opportunities to use it when she is not in the room, she has taken over possession because it works so well for her. Am on waiting list to order companion RR 840 unit for myself. Sound quality and usability is excellent. Really solves the problem of boosting volume and bringing clarity to spoken word on TV.
Pros: Easy to set up and worked right out of the box. Features easy to use. Sound quality excellent Pretty comfortable to use--lightweight, not uncomfortable to wear. RF technology enables you to be out of the room and still hear what's going on.
Cons: No major items. A quibble, the control dial which balances sound from one ear to the other is a bit small and takes close attention to move it. As with any device like this, it takes some getting used to it being around your neck, especially if you are turning your head or the unit is resting against your chest when you move. These issues are very minor.
Excellent sound with compression & treble boost. I can hear the words now. I had problems with the fit until I put them on backwards. Yes, they work fine backwards and fit my ears a lot better. I would like to be able to increase the bow pressure so they fit in my ears better.
Pros: Excellent sound quality.
Cons: Fit, have to wear them backwards - no way to adjust bow pressure - high price...
Wonderful product that has greatly enhanced my father's enjoyment of watching and hearing television clearly without distortion and most importantly at a level he can hear that does not interfere with the sound for the rest of the household. A great piece of equipment perfectly designed and engineered for the consumer.
Pros: Well designed, light weight, easy to set up and to use.
Excellent product! I was afraid the signal wouldn't come through the cabinet with the door closed but that was never an issue. I have Tinitis (constant ringing in the ears) and was unable to hear if characters were whispering. This completely solved the problem and I seldom have to move the volume past level one.
Pros: Great sound, easy to set up,
The 840 TV headphones were primarily purchased for our visiting family members that need increased volume levels when watching the TV in our living room. Many times we are able to continue to listen to our music while they are able to watch their favorite shows and when we join them for a show or program we can listen at normal volume levels. Everyone is happy!
Pros: Very good sound quality. Some reviews mentioned that they are a bit heavy, but I found this not to be a problem.
Cons: Our tv did not have the proper outlet for the connection for the base unit, but the Crutchfield tech team suggested an alternate connection and in 10 minutes the headphones were up and running.
Once we found the one right jack/input on rear of my 47"Vizio , the sound came on like" gangbusters". I changed out the earbuds to the softer white ones which were much more comfortable-the weight of unit tugging downward creating sore ears(esp. left).
Pros: Great sound, high quality well- designed unit.
Cons: heavy weight of unit. Would be best if MADE IN GERMANY like design and engineering.
What a relief! Everything that had been a bit muddled is now clear and distinct. They are a bit heavy, but that appears appropriate to the build quality. This was a good purchase.
Pros: Clear sound and good build quality
Cons: A tad heavy, but not to the point that it causes a real problem.
The radio headphones work better than the IR type because they work even when you walk out of the room.
Love the product. It actually works better than we expected. It works very well even when not in line of sight of the TV, which is important because my wife can listen while using her sewing machine in a different room. We are very pleased with this product, just as we have always been pleased doing business with Crutchfield.
Pros: Excellent sound quality. We pick up sounds we don't normally hear when listening without them. Easy to use, easy to recharge.
Excellent sound quality, and very convenient to install and use. I agree with the other reviewers on this point. Unfortunately, if you're sitting upright watching TV from the sofa, it's too heavy to hang securely from your ears without feeling like it's about to fall out. But it's fine if you're in bed or a recliner chair, because then the device rests on your chest. Great product otherwise.
Pros: Great sound quality, easy setup, very convenient operation. Perfect for use when reclining or lying down.
Cons: Not comfortable for use while sitting upright.
Good documentation and easy installation. Excellent sound quality with crystal clear reception and background noise elimination. Allows for great freedom of movement so if you have to run to another room you can still listen to your programming. Product was purchased for a "hearing aide" user who didn't like wearing hearing aides while watching television but had difficulty understanding the dialog, especially if spoken by a woman. The softer, less penetrating voice was a particular problem. This product was the perfect solution with its ability to selectively amplify certain frequencies without "cranking" the TV volume. Friends purchased 2 like units for their use after seeing/hearing this product. A high quality product that will offer years of enjoyment.
Pros: Easy of installation High quality sound Appears to be very durable and well made
My 76 year old mom has been slowly developing typical hearing loss associated with aging. TV has become particularly hard for her, often cupping her ears or turning the volume way up. She bought herself several of the cheap TV Ears which weren't good quality and all three sets broke. She has tried the in-ear amplifiers with limited success. For Christmas, I decided to buy her the Sennheiser TV headset after doing lots of research. In a nutshell, it has truly changed her life! For any of you who have loves ones who are hard of hearing, you will understand exactly what I mean. Watching TV shows is something most of us do and enjoy our entire lives, especially so as we get older. It may not seem like a big deal to those of you who hear well, but wait until you are there yourself! :) Mom is happier with this gift that gives her daily pleasure than many other nice gifts I've given her. The sound quality is outstanding, and she loves that she can move from room to room throughout the house with her Sennheiser headset on without missing a word of her program. It's been two months since she received them, and she still tells me at least twice a week how fantastic they are! Don't waste another dime on the junky TV amplifiers you see on TV or at the drugstore- they just don't work well and it's a true waste of your money. As usual, you get what you pay for. Although they're pricy, it's most definitely worth it!
Pros: Sound quality, able to roam around the house without losing reception, light and comfortable.
Cons: None! The price is not a con because it's an amazing product- top notch quality and sound.
Excellent sound quality. My husband had the "other TV ears" system, but this system is far superior - very happy with his Sennheiser choice.
Like the name 'stethoset'. Also, very lightweight.
These are GREAT!!! I like everything about them. My grandkids can watch a tv show with me and I don't have to ruin their ears just so I can hear the show too. I like thqt I can walk into the next room and still hear the show. I had another less-expensive brand previously and these are so much better. The sound is clearer, the quality of the product is superior, right down to the packaging. Was concerned about spending so much money but they are definitely worth if you have trouble hearing the tv like I do.
Pros: Easy to use, quality, long lasting charge
Cons: Wish they cost less
Had to use 'speaker' attached to audio speaker; consequently the speaker picked up other room noises (e.e.g. floor fan). Moved speaker away from fan as possible and that improved sound quality. I'm sure a direct connection with a newer TV will eliminate this issue. Headset feels a 'little heavy; and is not tight enough pressing againt each ear. Once you 'fiddle' with it, you can get headset comfortable enough.
Pros: Workmanship, instructions, packing, usefulness,
Cons: headset tensile tightness to stay in ear sockets could be improved for people with smaller 'space between the ears'
Better than I imagined. Good choice. Crutchfield guy thankfully talked me out of over the ear style.
Over 70 years old this was the answere to my hearing TV and Music problems. My wife can talk all night and I hear what I want to, so she said she need a set for her and guess what, she got it and now we get alog so fine after 50 years. Technology is great for mature people like us.
Pros: Great quality, very soft on ears and light.
I bought this because I couldn't hear the TV while using my sewing machine. Works great with my plasma TV, no static at all. Takes a little time to get used to the weight of it, at first you think it's going to fall off, but it's fine. Doesn't hurt your ears like a full coverage set would.
This is a well-constructed product. Sound quality and reliability is much better than TV Ears, which we also use. The only negative is that it is heavier than the TV Ears and less comfortable, in that respect. Sound quality is good - clear, no static, which was a problem with the TV Ears. Most impressive is that it goes through walls and the range is great. We have a very large house and I can walk anywhere and still hear clearly wherever I am. If this product was a little lighter, I would say that it is perfect.
Pros: Good build quality, works reliably, sound clear, great range and works through walls.
Cons: A little heavier than I would like.
I ordered these headphones for my pilot husband after we'd made the big leap for a large and very expensive HDTV, a special Father's Day gift from all the kids and me, only to find he wasn't able to fully enjoy it because of difficulty hearing. Too many years around jet engines! These headphones exceeded all expectations. They are comfortable to wear and definitely deliver a high quality audio. A bonus - this might be due to the way we have it hooked into our audio system, but we can 'mute' the TV and whoever is using the headphones can hear perfectly well, at any volume you choose. This means I can read while he watches TV, or I can watch TV with great audio while he's sleeping. A great product and a purchase I'll never regret!
Pros: Comfortable. Fantastic audio.
This set was purchased for my elderly, hearing impaired mother. I was impressed with the reviews and so far all is good. After purchasing two sets of the "other" TV in-ear headphones over the last four years only to have them fail the price of these headphones seemed worth the cost. The headphones are great quality and comfortable to use and my mom is very happy.
Bought this for my 87 YO father and even he can use it! Takeit off the charger, pull open the earpieces and voila, it's on! Sounds great, easy to turnip with the dial. My only wish was that the disc it self was lighter in weight, but really a great item.
It works great but is so uncomfortable to use that I can only wear it for brief periods. It is heavy and the weight pulling on my ears is very unpleasant. I wish I had purchased the other system that works through digital hearing aids.
Pros: Excellent sound.
Cons: Weight makes it uncomfortable to use.
I was looking for something so I could better hear and understand the TV. This is the solution. Easy to adjust the volume and the sound is very clear. Took a while to get used to wearing them because they seemed a bit heavy hanging on my ears. They have become pretty comfortable. Installation and setup was easy. I plugged the RCA type plugs into my cable box and Roku which allows me to control the volume for the headphones independent of the TV. I can also mute the TV without affecting the headphones. Note: I don't think the new Roku boxes have the RCA plug option. Before buying I recommend you think about how you will connect these. They have a microphone option that can be stuck in front of a speaker but I would use this as a last resort. Finally, I bought the headset with RF instead of infrared connectivity and am glad I did. I don't have to worry about the headphones having to "see" the base and like to be able to walk around the house and still hear the TV.
Pros: Well made
Cons: Not all TV's have the necessary outputs for directly connecting the headset base.
These phones recharge, the previous pair (another brand) did not. The previous pair also had a volume control difficult to use. However, the controls of the new phones hang down the front of my shirt, and get caught every time I turn my head. This pulls one ear plug out. Most distracting. I cannot recommend these to anyone. This dislodging overcomes the handiness of the volume control, which is handy, but not handy enough.
I bought this system for my husband for Christmas. One of the best gifts he's received. He was having difficulty hearing dialogue on television shows. He can now hear all dialogue well. We needed a little tech support to set the television so he could use the headset while the TV was on mute. The tech showed us how and it works perfectly.
Pros: Clearly allows the listener to hear dialogue on TV shows and movies. Sound coming through the headset is completely adjustable separately from the volume of the television. Someone else in the room can read a book without being disturbed by the sound from the TV.
Cons: The headphones are a bit heavy but worth it.
I was quite disappointed with the quality of the defective SET 840 listening system I purchased, although it may have just been the bad luck to get a lemon. I really liked the clear sound and ease of adjusting the volume, and the range seemed to be adequate, althought the receiver did turn itself off once when I went into an adjacent room while listening to a tv show. Based on my experience, I could not recommend this unit.
Pros: My SET 840 only worked one time in the week that I had it. During that brief period of operational functioning, I found it had very clear sound, acceptable range, and the volume control was easily accessible and convenient to adjust.
Cons: The SET 840 TV would not work when we originally set it up, although we carefully followed all directions. Oddly, the receiver eventually came on and worked one time before going dead again, which gave me one evening to test it. The receiver was quite heavy and I had to take a break occasionally from wearing it.
These headphones are fantastic. Extremely lightweight, ears don't sweat, easy to use glasses, and last but not least the sound is fantastic. I am disabled and spend a lot of time in bed so they are great because I don't disturb anyone else. The clarity of hearing people speak is second to none. Would tell anyone to purchase them, not a single negative about them.
The ability to understand the verbal content of a television program has dramatically improved utilizing the sound adjustments offered by the Sennheiser SET 840. This product offers settings that allow the viewer to increase the quiet dialog, reduce the loud dialog, and reduce the music background found in the typical TV program. In sum, the TV dialog is much more clear, precise, and understandable. The set-up is simple, the earphones are comfortable, and the direct sound delivered by the earphones makes TV watching much more enjoyable. I recommend this product for people that find TV dialog somewhat muffled at times.
My 60 year old husband has been asking me for years to repeat what was just said during a tv program--all the while having the sound blasting though the house! Fortunately, or unfortunately, I happen to hear very well. He says these headphones perform even better than he had hoped. Speech is clear, even background noises on the shows, and we can keep his headphone volume where he likes it and the room volume where I like it! He can even go to a different room and still hear the audio as it is radio wave projected throughout the house to his headphones. I subsequently ordered some for my 81 year old father who has had limited success with hearing aids and he loves them! Now my mother wants a set too! These headphones are a real winner all the way around!!!
High quality and just what I needed. The RF signal is strong though-out my 4000 sf home. I will never use the infrared types again. Sould quality is excellant. It worked perfectly with the default setttings right out of the box. However, you can change many settings to conform to your needs. I can now understand every word of every show. The speach enhancement feature is great. I have a very expensive hearing aid that I used daily. However, I remove it and use these headphones instead to watch the LCD TV. The sound quallity is much better. I have used it for a month with no problems.
These headphones work well as advertised, but they are heavy. The earpieces fit in the ear, and they pull down on your ears while holding up the headphones. They were easier on my ears when I rotated them upside down and rested the volume knob on top of my head. They came with three pairs of earpiece pads. The factory installed, black ones, hurt the most. The softest foam rubber set was the most comfortable, but they fell off unless I took the headset off very carefully. And they got out of place unless I put the headset on very carefully. One of the three "speech intelligibility" settings worked the best for me. "Compression", which the owner's manual says is a typical enhancement required to understand voices better as people age, is an improvement over just high fidelity headphones, but not by much. The in the ear earpieces block nearly all external sounds; so I have to pull out one earpiece to hear what my wife, who is sitting next to me, is saying. That is inconvenient. The best part about these headphones is that the transmitter works with my old Sennheiser wireless, open earpiece, headphones. Those headphones are light and comfortable. I can hear external sounds with the headphones on. I much prefer them to the Set 840-TV. Now I can leave the old transmitter hooked up to my stereo in the dining room, and the Set 840-TV transmitted hooked up to the TV in the living room, and hear either one throughout the whole house. That was a pleasant surprise.
This unit works well and restores the audio detail and understandability to voices on TV programs that has slowly faded away as I have gotten older. I still hear the words being said by the actors but sometimes not clearly enough unless I,m using the SET-840. I had tried the lower cost model SET-830 , but they do not work well with my Plasma TV Set. Only problem for me with the Sennheiser design is that the spring-loaded ear pieces are bothersome after 30-40- mins. and I have to take them off for a " break " .
Excellent stereo sound for a wireless unit. Can be adjusted for tone. My only problem is the weight of the set. Gets tiring until you become accustomed to it. Overall this is a quality product. So much so that I ordered a second set for another room.
I am 65 years old and have a high frequency hearing loss. In order to understand some TV conversation, I needed to have the volume louder than was comfortable for others in the room. I liked the concept of the headphone idea, so I decided to give it a try. I bought a set of TV listening devices. The base failed in 4 months( warranty is for 3 months), so I decided to upgrade to the SET840 TV. I am very pleased with the quality construction and exemplary performance. The RF system allows me to leave the room with no disruption. The audio is amazing. I now notice background sounds I never heard before. I do not need to have the volume very loud to be able to hear everything. I experienced no interference whatsoever. The automatic turn on , and off, feature is very convienient. By simply expanding the ear pieces to place in the ears, the unit turns on. When removed, after a delay, the unit turns off. The ear cushions, they give you 3 different styles, take a little time to break in ( or possibly for me to get used to) but I find them rather comfortable for a 3 hour stint of use. I highly recommend this product, it will not disappoint. Sometimes I have others asking ME what was said now. It is nice to be able to hear well again

System Connections: The included RF transmitter/charging station features a 3.5mm input to connect to your television's audio or headphone output using the supplied stereo minijack cable, minijack-to-RCA cable, or 1/4" adapter.
Microphone: The Sennheiser Set 840-TV comes supplied with an external microphone which picks up the television's audio from the TV's built-in speaker. The microphone plugs into the 3.5mm audio input on the back of the RF transmitter/charging base and then is placed near the speaker of the television.
Auto Tuning: The wireless headphones automatically search for one of the 3 channels (925.95, 926.8, 927.5 MHz) of the transmitter to tune in your television's audio.
Ergonomic Controls: Ergonomic controls and visual feedback of certain operations make the Set 840-TV easy to use. There is a large, ergonomic volume control on the stethoscope-style headphones to adjust volume level. There is also a balance control on the headset to adjust the balance so that you hear equally well with both ears.
Three Selectable Hearing Settings: The Sennheiser Set 840-TV offers 3 selectable hearing settings on the transmitter. These settings optimize speech intelligibility due to switchable compression and treble emphasis.
Auto Power: The RF wireless headphones automatically turn-on when you place them on your ears and automatically turn-off when you take them out (after 30 seconds). If you are not within the range of the transmitter, the headphones automatically switch off after 3 minutes.
Power Supply: The RF wireless headphones feature an integrated lithium-polymer battery to ensure a long operating time of up to 9 hours. The headphones charge when they are rested on the transmitter/charging station (up to 3 hours). They can be placed in the transmitter's charging compartment facing in either direction. The transmitter/charging station operates off of standard AC household current using the supplied AC power adapter.

This has been purchased for my husband. He has used the original one so much that it needs to be replaced. Quite satisfied.[ Lucinda Aug 03, 2017 ]
I have a hard time hearing actor's voices while watching TV. These wireless headsets work awesome helping me hear the voices. I've had them for over two years and only had to replace the rechargeable batteries once. We use them about 8 hours a day. As an added bonus, I can watch TV without disturbing anyone...even in the middle of the night![ Charles Mar 11, 2017 ]
Does your spouse go to bed before you do? I have to turn the volume down to a point that I strain to hear some of the dialog. Screw that! Now i can continue to watch and HEAR tv till my bedtime. Hooray![ O Feb 01, 2017 ]
These are high quality for those that need the direct hearing of this type of device. Don't waste your money on the less expensive ones, they won't last. These are high quality, easy to connect and easy to operate.[ Julius Dec 13, 2016 ]
My aunt is 99 years old and has trouble hearing tv.[ Elizabeth Sep 04, 2016 ]
Already have one set. They are an incredible item. Thanks Guys[ Frank May 29, 2016 ]
We had purchased a pair of TV ears that lasted 4 months until the side piece broke. We thought we should purchase a better quality set. The video shows the flexibility of the side pieces; and when placed in the base, it looks as if the unit will stay in place better while charging. Although more expensive, this set looks more sturdy.[ Jonelle Apr 28, 2016 ]
Sennheiser quality.[ Paul Jan 18, 2016 ]
Major hearing issue. This is a tremendous help.[ David Dec 21, 2015 ]
Reviews and primarily having the volume control on the headset[ Russell Dec 20, 2015 ]
Based on the reviews I've seen. Hopefully I will be pleased with the product![ Charles Dec 19, 2015 ]
Tim, The only info I can offer is that we use comcast Xfinity and connect through their "box". The "TV EARS" work excellent. My wife loves them! Thanks Crutchfield[ Gary Mar 10, 2015 ]
I have mine plugged into my audio out (head set) jack on the TV and they work fine. Even when I hit the mute button on the TV my TV ears still work which is great if my wife wants to read while I'm watching a show.[ John Mar 04, 2015 ]
You are correct--my amp allows only analog inputs to work with Set 840 TV. I have found that I can plug into a remote speaker non amplified output without influencing the main speakers performance. My Amp is made by Yahoo several years ago.[ DALE A Mar 03, 2015 ]
Steve, Yes you can listen as well. With the seperate volume control on the headset, he could adjust the volume to his liking, while you can listen from the tv speakers to your liking. Also, the seperate volume controls do not interefere with each other. I bought these for my Fiancee, she likes watching tv in bed at night, while I am sleeping. Unfortunately, it kept me awake. These are perfect, we turn the tv volume all the way down, and she has volume control on the headset. The reason we don't mute, is that the mute icon jumps around on the tv screen.[ Gregory May 18, 2014 ]
It may depend on how you connect the unit. Mine I connect to my DirecTV receiver through a dual plug adapter and the TV speakers still work normally with this set up. The sound from the headphones is excellent and the unit has been reliable for a couple of years.[ JEFFERY May 17, 2014 ]
Yes Steve. The headphones have an independent volume control, so the rest of the family can watch the tv at regular volume levels and the person listening with the Sennheiser headphones can turn it up as loud as they need them. These headphones have great sound quality. We bought them for our parents when they visit, but I have grow to use and love them also when I wish to watch the tv late at night when others are sleeping without disturbing anyone. Simply put the tv on mute and use the volume control on the headphones. You can also walk around the house listening to your program while in the kitchen cooking, cleaning, etc.[ ALEX F May 17, 2014 ]
yes you can-- it is connected to jack in back of tv--you can mute tv sound and listen through ear plugs--also go in other room and listen -radio frequency[ HERMAN L May 17, 2014 ]
We purchased this item for my dad who is hard of hearing - and for my mom who was tired of hearing the TV at full volume. Yes, my father can (and does - every day) listen to the tv via his headset. And yes, my mother can now listen to the tv - through its sound system at a level that is comfortable for her. Another feature - my dad can walk around the house - and yard - listening to whatever program he is tuned in to.[ MARK May 17, 2014 ]
Yes they can.[ RICHARD May 17, 2014 ]
We use the front panel plug for the Sennheiser. When we use the Sennheiser in this way, the sound through the speakers is off. This is what we wanted. If your receiver allows multiple outputs simultaneously, it should be possible to get the two audio zones working at the same time. We have a Yamaha 1010 receiver. I tried to install it on the rear panel at first and could not quiet the speakers. So we could make your approach work.[ JOSEF May 17, 2014 ]
No Problem I have my plugged into the cable box , the volume at the head set is controlled by the wearer, others in the room can set the volume as they normally would.[ RICK May 17, 2014 ]
Yes, at least on my tv. You may need to test the different ways to connect, but it works very well. On my inexpensive Samsung, the first connection method muted the internal speakers so the only sound came through the headphones. I moved to method number two, and now sound comes through both internal speakers and headphones. To use only headphones, we just use the mute on the remote. The sound quality through the head set is far superior to the tv speakers.[ JESSE T May 17, 2014 ]
Yes they can. The volume control on the TV works as normal. The person wearing the headphones can adjust the headphones to the level they like. I have listened to Formula 1 races on the headset with the TV volume so low my wife could not hear it from nearby and also listened to a normal program when my wife was seated on the couch next to me with the volume set to the level she preferred. They are a great headphone system. Especially if you are watching a British TV program where the actors barely speak English. You can hear it all.[ ROBERT May 17, 2014 ]
Mother in-law. Very Hard of hearing. The regular cheap TV ears did not work....too tight in the ears. This product is well worth the money. The answer to your question is YES. The ear plug set up has no effect on how the others are listening. She has her own dial to up the sound and the regular remote can be changed up or down and does not affect the other. Only downside is it has to be charged up about every 8 hours or so. She can be on TV 12-15 hrs. at a time..[ RALPH E May 17, 2014 ]
Yes they can. They are a little heavy, but when in a recliner it seems to rest better in ear. Really is easier to hear dialogue[ Robin May 17, 2014 ]
It's worked great for me. I wish it were a bit lighter, but I'm using it "as we speak" to watch an old Cheers broadcast and enjoying the whole experience.[ DONALD May 17, 2014 ]
I bought only one Set 840-TV so I am speculating a bit by going through the documentation. One base station can transmit to multiple receivers all on the same frequency (stated in the doc). The headphones charge in the transmitter base cradle but you can also pop the battery out of the headphones and slide it into the side of the cradle to charge. So I am hoping the base unit could charge 2 headphone units at the same time. Otherwise, you would need to charge the headphones one a time (yuk!) or have multiple base stations plugged in (each to any AC outlet) and each would charge one set of headphones.[ Gary Dec 31, 2013 ]
Hi Blake; I'm not sure if that will work. I don't see why not but you can only charge one headset at a time.[ John Dec 30, 2013 ]
can only charge one at a time[ HERMAN L Dec 30, 2013 ]
You can find the extra headphones on our website here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_143RR840/Sennheiser-RR-840.html [ Jeff Dec 30, 2013 ] Staff
Yes- You can run more than one from the base-station. Just buy an extra Sennheiser head-set by itself. Crutchfield sells them.[ RICHARD Dec 30, 2013 ]
I have two complete sets. One in the bedroom and one in the living room. The base stations will pair with either headset automatically. If my battery dies in one, I just go and get the other headset. If your asking about running two or more headsets at the same time from the same base station, then I can't verify, as I'm by myself here and can't test this. I'm guessing this will work because the headsets are receivers picking up RF from the base station and operate independently, whether another headset is in operation or not.[ JEFFERY Dec 30, 2013 ]
There should be no limit on the number of headphones that can be used simultaneously. We routinely use two; but, since this is a radio transmitter there should be no limit.PhD in engineering[ DALE A Dec 30, 2013 ]
We have no experience with multiple headsets, but there should be no problem since the signal is available and each set hasits own receiver. My wife loves th understandability of this headset, but remember it is designed for speech rather than music.[ JOSEF Dec 30, 2013 ]
Christmas present for husband since he has a hearing problem, went to hook up to TV but not enough plugs on TV to have this and our speaker both attached- so we need to see if it can be split. If that works and he likes I may buy the 2nd headphone for me- not sure that you can have more than the two[ Robin Dec 30, 2013 ]
I know you can buy extra headphones - I intend to purchase one additional set to run off the same base station. I'll just have to remember to charge each appropriately.[ MARK Dec 30, 2013 ]
Replacement parts would need to be ordered through Sennheiser directly. You can find contact details for them here: http://en-us.sennheiser.com/service-support-contact-center [ Jeff Dec 03, 2013 ] Staff
