Garmin 2555LMT

Brian H from Anaheim, CA on 1/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have also had Nuvi 1370 and I think the software interface of 1370 is easier to use. But I welcome the newer interface of 2555LMT, though. In the two week of using the 2555LMT, I have experienced one software glitch -- the unit was still functioning but the street map was gone, and just the background remained. I had to do a forced shut down and reboot.

What were they thinking? No instruction booklet!

Dis Satisfied from New Orleans, LA on 12/1/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Garmin sells sophisticated product & provides no guidance on how to use it. To get an instruction booklet one has to go to Garmin's site, dig around for manuals, dig around for model #, & then print 30+ pages of type so small that a phone book at fifty feet would seem legible. And then the guidance is opaque. Try to find how to not go in the interstate between 2 places. Last I checked, people were not born with Garmin-speak.

Garmin Nuvi 10 Stars

_Brent_ from Kamuela, Hawaii on 10/11/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very impressed with the Garmin. I live on a very large island which is somewhat rural and very remote at times. I sometimes ride thru areas where cellphones do not work or have marginal coverage. My Garmin Nuvi on the other hand always works, even in those areas where you might think reception would be a problem. If you want a great GPS with lots of great features then buy this one. Trust me from first hand experience when I say that cellphones with GPS features can not compare when you get out to the fringe areas.

Pros: Very bright display when using in daytime, Speed limit feature which posts all local speed limits along your route while at the same time indicating your actual speed, Saved locations feature

Cons: None that I can think of.

great gps for my needs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) has blue tooth so this unit w/o was just fine. Am satisfied with all aspects after my first long trip to the east coast using it. The only confusion was getting started out of the box. Directions are barely ok. First thing is to charge it......they don't tell you but all you have to do is plug into your pc and let it charge that way! No, you don't have to drive around with it plugged into car outlet.Next, be sure to follow instructions to get into Garmin website, get their software to access the updates for unit software and maps. It might help to speed things up if you are online with a direct line vs wyfi which may be slower. It takes a bit of time to download map updates. Very satisfied with overall performance for a midline unit. Just be sure to go through the basic set up for your preferences and double check them before you take off. i.e. routing fastest, shortest etc .....and avoid tolls or not etc ....... This will make a big difference in the way it routes you: time and distance.

Pros: screen size; calculation speed; recalculation speed; accuracy, options for screen info displays........example is "altitude" not needed but enjoyed using it going through mountains etc. ; speed limit indicator is a nice check along the way......eta and miles to destination is also great

Cons: none.........except the startup out of the box could be explained much better........a new user wants to be sure they are doing things correctly and other comments read indicated to be sure to do your charging and updates first before problems after that......a great unit on the road

Much to Like!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this model to replace an outdated Magellan and did a lot of research prior to the purchase. Had a bit of trouble downloading the Garmin plug-in to update the maps but was successful once I switched my computer browser to Internet Explorer from Google Chrome. Map and software updates were quick and smooth, and I especially like the Lifetime Updater from Garmin which notifies you when updates are available. My first use was on a cross-country trip of more than 3,000 miles. I saved several of my destinations to the unit prior to departing, which saved a lot of time. Display is great and the menus are very intuitive. One thing to watch for: on a road with two or more highway designations, it sometimes displays/announces only one, which may not be the one you're looking for or expecting. However, it routed me correctly 99% of the time. The only exception was in the Texas Panhandle, where it tried to divert me from the main highway onto side roads before rejoining the highway. Text to voice quality is good and lane designations are very helpful. ETAs (excluding stops) were pretty accurate. Overall, a winner--I would definitely buy this model again.

Pros: Display, quick route calculation (and recalculation in event of changes), lane assist, posted speed limit display.

Cons: Sometimes displays only one highway designation on roads where two or more numbered highways share a stretch of road.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the first unit I have ever owned, so that's why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because I have nothing to compare it to, and I assume this is not the best. the unit works very well, saved us in st louis and springfield IL one way streets. It notifies you in plenty of time for exits, turns ect. When you search for a food service It does not want to go much more than mile or two from where you are....we new the name of it but not the address, there for it would not show far away? maybe need to play with it more. Would certainly recomend it..maybe buy the one with out lifetime traffic for less. 5 inch screen is the way to go in a suv. I also wonder how they obtain food, gas, hotel information...we would drive by a gas station and nuvi didn't acknowledge it, nothings perfect.

Pros: acurate, timley, easy to use

Cons: not much, see review

Solid GPS

cs2718 from Winston Salem, NC on 7/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, this is a good product. The screen is big and easy to read, and the unit is easy to use and accurate most of the time. The majority of inaccuracies have been in the side of a street that a given address is on, or with new detours (which is not surprising.) It is also odd that the internal database lacks government offices, like the DMV, and the search mechanism can be slow. The traffic radio is impressive is picking up congestion, but the detours the unit builds can be a little odd. Still, this is a GPS that I would recommend and purchase again.

Amazing generation upgrade

Randy B. from Vergas, MN on 7/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm also a 2450LMT user and at first the 2555LMT support screens felt forgien, but as I use it daily the comfort was soon gained. The unit's increased amount of saved planned or scenario trips above ten in memory is a great addition. It's a great work tool and has not let me down.

Pros: The split screen on advanced lane change is super and it stays on much longer to provide advanced warning.. It seems to have a better satelitte reception in busy cities with less display lag. It recalculates route changes rapidly when you encounter road detours. The alternative detour feature is nice with it's time impact. The trip review selection below the trip map line by line with times is nice for planning and forecasting to our Motorcaoch passengers.

Cons: The trip hi-lighted roadway when mulitple way points are entered shows only next way point highway hi-light and not all the way to the final destination. I wish there was a way to include the actual time and arrival time on a dashboard as the 2450LMT allowed.

Nice Unit

Brian from NW Ohio on 7/17/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been eyeing this unit for some time and with a trip coming up and $20 price drop finally broke down and bought it. This is my first GPS, I bought it based on reviews, screen size and features that I was looking for without ones I wasn't (bluetooth, etc). I've had it less than a week but just used it on a 180 mile round-trip and I have to say so far I'm very pleased with it. I found it fairly easy to set up, navigate, and use. I especially found the split-screen junction view feature at exit ramps to be very helpful, guiding you on which lane to be in. As I read in another review of another unit there is no longer the "re-calculating" speech when you miss a turn, it simply makes a new route. My gf has a little older Garmin gps and said she likes mine better. I also bought the Garmin bean-bag dash mount and it worked very well. I've been a Crutchfield customer for over 10 years now and as always Crutchfield promptly sent what I ordered. I made the order just before 5pm on a Wednesday and the package was at my door Friday morning. With the free shipping, you couldn't ask for much more. Terrific.

Pros: split-screen lane assist, large screen, nice options, easy to navigate

Cons: None so far

awesome product!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After purchasing a Garmon NUVI 350 several years ago and having nothing but trouble with it, I was hesitant to buy another Garmin product. But the NUVi 2555LM has far exceeded my expectations. The 350 could only pick up satellites after driving some 15 miles; the 2555 instantly finds the current location and sets easy to follow directions. The split screen exits and lane designations are especially helpful. I would highly recommend this product based on its performance and price.

My first GPS

RickC from Sarasota, FL on 6/6/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first GPS, so I have no reference point with which to judge it except to say that it seems to do everything one would want in a location-finding-device. The graphics are fun and generally clear and the large screen is easy to see. I love the extra info like speed limits, etc. Navigating the unit's menu trees takes some learning, but HEY, it's a computer! What else is new? All in all, I would buy this product again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used it going on vacation. Was great pulling Fith Wheel RV on interstate. The dual screen showing off ramps was awsome.

Pros: Great at showing what lane to be in. This was very useful in pulling fith wheel on interstate.

Cons: Only wanted to go one route. Could not figure on how to change route. I will have to play with it more. Instructions was not much help.

Nice upgrade from an aging StreetPilot 2720

Peter from Demarest, NJ on 2/16/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My first GPS was a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 purchased around June of 2005. It has been my companion at least up until last year when I upgraded my wireless phone to Droid, then started using the GoogleMaps Navigation. Though GoogleMaps is okay, I missed the robustness of a dedicated GPS that Garmin has provided. I was looking for just a knock out GPS navigation algorithm with ease in searching for POI's and detour functionality without unnecessary bells and whistles like Bluetooth or Voice Command functionality. So I went with Nuvi 2555 and I am glad I did. Screen is very big; almost as big as some built in navigation devices from factory, actually, bigger than the one came with MazdaSpeed3 I previously owned. Touchscreen has a good feedback and the keypad is very easy to use with much more accuracy than the GoogleMaps on my SonyEricsson Android Phone. Now the best part is the graphics: refresh rate and details. This is light years ahead of my old StreetPilot. It actually feel like animation. And extra plus is the speed limit display and photo-like exit ramp depictions. Minor pet peeve is the flimsy ball mount where it easily comes off. But that's minor when comparing it to what the whole unit provides. I recommend the Garmin Nuvi 2555 over any of the competitors in its class.

Pros: Large-high resolution display, tactile/precise key pad, map refresh rate, thickness, free map updates

Cons: Flimsy mount
