A generous 5" display

The nüvi 2557LMT sports a refined look, with a detailed 5" touch display that lets you view the action in either portrait or landscape orientation. You'll have access to preloaded maps of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and several Caribbean islands, along with millions of points of interest; you can even add your own favorite stopping points. You can find and select businesses right on the map screen without having to go through time-wasting menus. And with one tap of the screen, you can pull up details for services that lie ahead on your route, including restaurants, gas stations, and more.

Garmin nuvi 2557 portable GPS navigator

photoReal junction view with Active Lane Guidance

Convenient guidance

Garmin incorporates several helpful visual tools to keep you on the correct path:

  • ActiveLane Guidance shows you colored arrows for the correct lane for an upcoming turn.
  • Bird's Eye junction view gives you a detailed look at complicated interchanges from above, to give you a better perspective.
  • photoReal junction view displays realistic images of intersections, including signs and surrounding terrain, along with colored arrows for the correct lane.

You'll see all three visual features in a split-screen with your overall route so you won't lose sight of what's further down the road. This Garmin's also compatible with the optional Garmin BC 30 wireless rear-view camera, so you can add an extra layer of safety when you're backing out of your driveway.

Help for your ears, too

The nüvi 2557LMT offers Garmin Real Directions with Garmin Real Voice, a combination that helps keep you relaxed as you drive. Real Directions voice prompts speak the instructions to you like a friend would, using easy-to-see landmarks, buildings and businesses, and traffic lights, rather than streets with tiny signs that you might not see in time. With Real Voice technology, you'll hear directions spoken in a personable, human-sounding voice that you'll easily understand.

Garmin Traffic

The nüvi 2557LMT features free lifetime traffic updates using Garmin's Traffic service, which is more expansive and timely than ever. Garmin Traffic incorporates data from active devices on the road, historical traffic patterns, and other factors like construction, concerts, and sporting events to give you a comprehensive look at congestion in most metropolitan areas, including a few cities in Canada. Best of all, you won't have to pay a penny more for this service over the life of your nüvi.

Very Helpful Device

Kittery from New Jersey on 7/28/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This GPS was purchased for use in a second car. I've had a Nuvi 1450 for 2 years and am very pleased with it. It will take a little time to get used to the Nuvi 2557 LTM since it differs from the 1450 in some respects. So far, I am very pleased with 2557 and have no complaints. I haven't yet used the traffic feature but am looking forward to using it on an upcoming out-of-state road trip. I'm sure as I use the Nuvi I'll find more features that I like.

Pros: When approaching a turn, it states the distance as 1/4 mile vs 200 feet (Nuvi 1450) Displays nearby gas stations and restaurants, which is very helpful. Junction views are more detailed than the 1450 Directions on and around one-way streets is excellent

Cons: The screen colors on the Nuvi 2557 are not as intense as the 1450, but still acceptable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've purchased two of these GPS devices for other family members so when my older StreetPilot had a failure of the power supply cord I decided to upgrade. Darn glad I did. Larger screen and greater direction. Ease of set up and use was flawless. Better than TOM-TOM hands down.

Pros: ALL! Out of the box ready other than registration and map updates.

Cons: None yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The seller Crutchfield is very nice. They keep their promise about 60-day return policy. I just got full refund after I return my GPS after I had it for about 20 days. Thanks The GPS is good with exception of a couple of things listed below.

Pros: The map is very good and the screen is big enough. It also has a powerful POI which makes it quite easy to find a place.

Cons: (1) Frequently the GPS cannot get satellites signals. It keeps acquiring satellites but cannot get the route; (2) The GPS gives very short distance when turning left or right

Fairly Good

Used the Nuvi on a cross country trip. Performed update before leaving and found map info accurate. No loss of signal, no issues, worked perfectly.

Pros: Easy to use, setup, and update.

Nice but could be better

Amos C. from Boise, ID on 9/26/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice update from my smaller, older GPS (Nuvi 755). I bought the Tom Tom weighted base for it at a local retailer, which provides stability on my truck's dash. The display could be brighter (wish I could adjust it!), since I wear polarized sunglasses. And I miss the British accent of the female voice that was on my older unit. The "real directions" with street names and correct highway lane only come with a generic North American accent (kinda boring). And I tried to find a local hardware store but couldn't find it (my older unit found it fast). The store isn't under "Housewares" or "Home and Garden" or something like that. Anyway, I recommend it now, before I take a long road trip next month into Canada and all of the U.S., after which I may have an update on my opinion.

Pros: Large, stable, shows more streets at once on the display, speaks the street names and correct lane, free map updates.

Cons: Dim screen, boring voice, search categories imprecise and confusing.

Good performance & value

Alan from East Pembroke, NY on 7/7/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Nuvi 2557 to replace another brand that had annoying features, poor connection and no lifetime maps. It performs much better and in addition has a better screen, and directions. Rather than use the suction cup mount I used velcro to mount it at the front of the console; it works very well there and there is no cord to route up over the dash. It is easier and more intuitive to use that the TomTom it replaced.

Pros: Clear display Superior voice directions and good volume. Gives alert for school zones, etc. Easy to program.

Cons: Display cannot be seen if wearing polarized sunglasses. Downloading and installing new maps takes a long time.

Works very well, give nice clear and acurate directions.

Pros: split screen is very helpful, give a choice of multiple routes. Has good traffic reporting

Cons: does not always show speed limit for all roads. And some times the speed limit that is shown is not correct for the street or highway.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this product to replace my old Nuvi 200 and this is super fast, and has the advantage that I have'n to pay for map update. However, the screen is not clear from some angles.

Pros: Super Fast and recive the Sat. signal even in-door

Cons: The Screen is not IPS panel, so you can't see the info. from all algles.

A good product at a good price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We have only used the Garmin a couple of times for test drives; it worked very well. We purchased this to replace an old Garmin, so we were familiar with the screen and how it works. Our last one was 4.3 in. and we really like the 5 in. We really like the split screen and being told which lane to be driving in. We have a small travel trailer and plan to use the Garmin for traveling. We do not need a special "RV GPS" which is a lot more expensive. This Garmin was a good buy and we are very pleased with it so far.

pleased w/ purchase

Anonymous from Clarksville, TN on 5/9/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I reviewed this product at a local retailer before I purchased online. Very pleased with this navigation. The biggest reason I went with this model was the lifetime traffic, maps, and it is not effected by my polarized glasses. I particularly like the "up ahead" feature.

Pros: Works with polarized glasses Up ahead listing Traffic updates w/ automatic reroute Touch screen accurate Traffic receiver built into device instead of cable

Cons: Traffic updates have only worked with construction, not jams from rush hour (in my experience) Difficult to remove from mount w/ one hand

happy user

EdX from New Castle PA on 3/17/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to have on a trip to England, so I had to outfit it with extra-cost maps of the U.K. I found them at an auction site for much less than at Garmin. This is a nice unit, well-sized, and it speaks in a clear voice, but mis-pronounces unusual street names. Does not have "voice command" like more expensive models. The only think I don't like about it is that it does not indicate that you have missed a turn (like by saying "re-calculating" or something audible). It makes a new route calculation, but if you realized you'd missed a turn, it may have been easier to just turn around and make the correction yourself. Overall, I'm very happy with this and highly recommend it.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to get updated maps

Cons: no use manual (but you can get it online)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this GPS as a Valentine present for my Chinese wife. She is knowledgable in electronics, using her two cell phones, iPad ,and computer daily so I let her start it up. The problem is it never started up correctly. After a few days I gave it a try and found that it would not get satellite reception. I tried several locations and restarts but the unit would not work. I called tech support (forgot the tech's name,he was real good at his craft) and within one minute he walked me thru a few touch screen stokes determined the unit was bad and had a replacement ordered. The replacement unit arrived a few days later. My wife and I started it up together sitting in the driveway. The unit was programmed with home location and destination and we were driving in five minutes. Set up was easy. The graphics were good. This is the first GPS I have owned as I grew up with using maps for navigation. I can not compare it to other GPS. My wife has no complaints. She now will drive by herself anywhere so it is a valuable tool for her. See can read and speak English but this unit adds the extra assurance she will not get lost. Can it be loaded with Chinese maps? I'll use it in China.

Pros: Exceptional customer service. Unit will give one good directions. Easy to set up

Cons: It was defective. Where is Garmin Q.C./Q.A.?

As Advertised

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Order to replace a dead 255w. Like the larger display. Not dificult to setup.

Pros: 5" Display; dual display when coming up to freeway intersections

Cons: Garmin update software still slow so be patient. Not enough to deduct a star.

Nice Garmin Update

J from Ocean County, NJ on 12/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Garmin 2557 LMT is a nice update from the older Garmin 215 that we had. So far the routing and traffic are working great. I had a little problem linking into the Garmin Website, because the original USB cable was not working, but Garmin is sending me a new one. The only thing that could be better on this model is the screen in direct sunlight could use a little more contrast.

Pros: Routing and Mapping

Cons: Screen could be brighter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've used Garmin and TomTom units for the last decade and the 2557 is a great update to the already stellar Garmin performance. The speed and accuracy is much improved over the units just 2 or 3 years old. Well worth the price to upgrade.

Pros: Large screen, fast processor, excellent turn by turn directions.

Cons: None so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great product, definitely better than my first Garmin product purchased 7 yrs ago!

Pros: Big readable screen! Clear voice.

Cons: I had to request from Garmin the English version of the manual. The online link to manuals from Garmin said there wasn't an English version available!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this item for my parents, since I have just moved a little south of them. They are old school and always used maps where ever they were traveling and we all know maps are not easy to use when traveling, especially if you miss a turn. They love this item and have no complaints, in fact they wish they would have purchased one sooner.

Pros: Easy to use, good size display, lifetime maps.

Cons: None at this time

Garmin nuvi 2557 LMT is a winner

agmplanit from Afton, VA on 10/20/2013

At this point, I've owned about 5 gps from different manufacturers and this is by far my favorite. It's intuitive, easy to view and gives advance notice for lane changes and intersections, etc. The graphics are fantastic including a split screen. The price for this gps with all the features is outstanding.

Pros: Price, graphics, user-friendly and advanced lane change and intersection info

Cons: Haven't discovered any yet.

Excellent Value

Jerry from Manhattan Beach, CA on 9/7/2013

I'm very pleased with this product and wish I had bought it sooner. Very easy to use with lots of great features. What I think is really cool is that you can record a track and then download it to your computer. and then import into Google Earth or photography software to record where your pictures were taken.

Pros: Well designed and thought through.

Cons: It can take a long time to get through to their help desk if you have a question. Expect a 30 minute wait.

Excellent product

Great GPS. Garmin keeps improving.

Pros: Large screen.

Cons: You have to get directions off line, and they are for more than one GPS.

Garmin nuvi 2557LMT

Buddy from Van Nuys, CA on 4/24/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first ever GPS. I wanted the latest model with a 5" screen and live traffic. I don't believe I'll ever really need my mapbook again. Easy to use, and Dr Nightmare's voice is killer. You can choose from various voices. Plus, on long stretches, he makes a ghastly comment to keep you amused and hopefully alert. It shows traffic jams ahead, time of arrival, plus nearbly eats, ATMs, and gas are just a prompt away. It took all night to download the North America map, but now it's easy street all the way.

Pros: Good suction cup and keyboard. Very easy to use. Cool voices. Fast tracking of your position. Shows slowdowns ahead. On map, it also shows the direction you are heading.

Cons: None come to mind.

Garmin nuvi2557LMT

TMM from New York, NY on 4/4/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this model instead of the in dash GPS offered with my new car.It is simple to use, the screen is bright and clear. The volume is a big improvement over my last Garmin since I drive a convertible. Thin design and silver bottom looks better than the all black models. I charge it and use without the cord for trips less than 2 hours.

Pros: Ease of use, design, volume and life time map and traffic updates. Looks great with on dash mount.

Cons: Not the least expensive but worth the investment.

When you touch the vehicle icon on the map screen, the "Where Am I?" feature provides the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and roadside assistance. You can also save the location for future reference.

myTrends: In addition to the trafficTrends feature, myTrends also takes into account your personal driving habits and anticipates your route when calculating your ETA to your frequent destinations.

Trip Planner: You can create and save a trip with multiple destinations using the Trip Planner. Once you have entered your destinations, you can manually set them in the order of your preference, or allow the device to calculate the most efficient route. Trip itineraries can be saved in memory for future use.

Trip Computer: The trip information page displays your current speed and direction, and provides helpful statistics about your trip. Dual trip odometers keep up with your total mileage. The page also indicates the distance and driving time to your next maneuver, as well as the distance and driving time to your destination. Your maximum speed and moving average speed are also displayed. The information can be reset in advance of your next trip.
