You'll also get rapid traffic alerts and map updates for the life of navigator without any additional costs or hidden fees.

Easy control and detailed maps
The 3490LMT's innovative glass display gives you gliding fingertip control, so you can pinch to zoom the map and shift the views with ease. The display automatically moves between landscape and portrait orientation, making it ideal for pedestrian activity. The nüvi 3490LMT includes maps of the entire U.S. plus most of Canada, Mexico, and several Caribbean Islands, along with 8 million searchable points of interest.

Use your voice for something other than off-key singalongs
While the glass display makes the nüvi 3490LMT more fun to touch, you also have the option for safer operation with hands-free control. You can wake the navigator up with a customized voice command, then find the menu screen you want just by speaking. Or just say the address or name of the point of interest you want to find and let the nüvi locate it for you quickly.

High-speed Garmin 3D Digital Traffic updates
When it comes to traffic information, nothing's more important than timeliness. Garmin's Digital 3D Traffic races past the competition, with updates that are up to 4 to 10 times faster than traditional services. It can feed you details every 30 seconds in some areas, using the HD Radio™ broadcasting system in addition to all the other sources Garmin traditionally uses. You'll see congestion as it develops and be able to route around it, rather than getting stuck at inopportune times. Best of all, the updates are free for the life of your navigator.

Advanced Garmin Guidance 3.0
The Garmin Guidance 3.0 feature set is the engine that drives the nüvi 3490LMT. You'll see maps load and routes form with uncanny speed, and you can save even more time by finding and selecting businesses right on the map screen. Text-to-speech voice prompts that say actual street names at turns keep you focused on the road, while Lane Assist guides you through tricky intersections. When you're entering an address or point of interest, the 3490LMT uses predictive text to give you more time traveling instead of searching.

Follow the leader
Select landmarks and terrain aspects appear in 3D, giving you the most comprehensive view of your surroundings, which is especially helpful when you're walking about. And photoReal™ junction views make complicated interchanges a breeze with easy-to-follow realistic representations, including signs. In select instances, the screen will split automatically to give you a photoReal view of the junction so you'll have a clear picture of the next turn.

More help when you need it
When you're on the highway, the navigator can give you a quick listing of stopping points nearest the exit ramp to save you from searching. Speed limit displays with visual warnings on major roads help keep you in check. You'll also find a photo viewer, "Where Am I?" emergency aid, audiobook player, trip planner, and other legacy Garmin features.

Smarter than the average navigator
Garmin's myTrends™ feature keeps track of your driving habits and can predict where you're going once you're on your way, then give you an estimated time of arrival. With Garmin's trafficTrends™ feature activated, the nüvi 3490LMT takes historic traffic data into account when creating routes, so it'll guide you towards paths that are less congested depending on when you're traveling, saving you time and gas.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Garmin 3490 LMT exceeds any Magellan GPS product hands down wit in only one week ownership. The Garmin has greater capabilities, is significant more reliability and is very easy to use. I had a Magellan 4250which served we well for a few years before it died. It had limited capabilities, but was dependable. My mistake was replacing the 4250 withe 4350 which was nothing but trouble. After 3 units Magellan set me another model which was slightly more dependable, but could not begin to compare to the capabilities of the Garmin 3540. The Garmin unit is easy to use and understand It allows you to set way points for customizing a trip, offers pictures of critical intersections and many other features yet to be tested. Lastly, Magellan service was provided outside the USA and at best was poor. Crutchfield reviews provide good technical information and advice and they were correct about the Garmin. Spend a few bucks more and be confident you have a dependable product that will work when you need it. Unless Garmin takes quality or customer service for granted, it is Garmin all the way for me!!

Pros: Ease of use, ability to set way points, updated traffic information and great dashboard.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm really impressed by this system so far. Voice command is awesome and split screen displaying pictures on highway signs is really cool. Also, the slim design makes it so easy to bring with you. I highly recommend this one.

Pros: sharp display, voice command

Cons: Had a little trouble using walking navigation, but I think I need to experiment with it a little more.

Excellent GPS

This replaces an old Garmin. The display is crisp, it turns on & responds quickly. I'm very happy with it.

Pros: crips display, quick response, simple menu

Great Product!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Having used Garmin products in the past, I knew this would be a quality unit that would get me to my destination as if I'd been there a dozen times before. Thought I've yet to use the Bluetooth & audio capabilities of the 3490, I can attest for the great turn-by-turn directions & awesome lane assist features through its main GPS function. I'm still waiting on a MicroSDHC card to arrive before I will load it up with additional add-ons, but overall the unit itself has been a great purchase so far...My only regret is I wouldn't have minded to get the larger screen that's soon to be released with the 3590LMT, but the 4.3" touchscreen isn't all too terrible to work with.

Pros: Compact Stores away easily Battery life Available Bluetooth & audio capabilities

Cons: None (unless you are considering a larger screen option like the 3590LMT)

third one still FUNKY

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

More of the same . Needed to multiple reset device.Had to use Mass Storage or some such pathway and its brand new device of brand new model . Sorry Charlie , I still am not sure if i am to exchange it one more time for old time sake , or just forget about it. I will of course rely on the expert advice of Crutchfield and Garmin Tech. But really , its a bit much to have hope for after all this , however i am still willing to try .

Pros: Its potential, its resolution, its size

Cons: mistaken directions multiple confusins at complicated intersections, inability to recognise when connected to PC or not , trouble with downloading, transfering to 16 GB SDHC microcard.
