The Sony WH-1000XM2 wireless noise-canceling headphones fold up neatly for travel.
Back in 2016, Sony made many "best-of" lists with their MDR-1000X wireless noise-canceling heaphones. With their revamped WH-1000XM2 headphones, Sony kept everything that made the originals a favorite among our customers. That includes the great sound, sharp looks, and snug, comfortable fit. But they've improved the already stellar noise cancellation and added even more convenience features.
Sony has used adaptive noise cancellation for a while now, and I've always found the circuitry very effective. It takes your surroundings into account, then adjusts the level of noise cancellation. But their "next-gen" circuitry goes one step further.
The WH-1000XM2 includes special on-ear sensors that can detect whether you are moving or standing still — and even if you're wearing glasses or not. Another sensor monitors barometric pressure. So now Sony can serve up noise cancellation that's optimized to the height of your in-flight plane.
Plus, you can download Sony's Headphones Connect mobile app for direct control over what noises you let in or keep out.
You can even choose to let in important ambient noise or voices. Temporarily turn off the noise-canceling technology by simply placing your hand over the right earcup. Tiny mics will pick up external sounds and voices.
When it's time to place a drink order, just put your hand over the right earcup.
These headphones are designed to deliver maximum detail from your music. The 40mm drivers have a strong-yet-light aluminum-coated diaphragm. It can respond rapidly and retain its shape, for accurate sound with a clear, detailed midrange. Specially designed vents in the earcups allow air to pass through, accentuating the bass.
And with the Headphones Connect app, you can dial-in the sound signature to meet your preference.
Music plays wirelessly from your Bluetooth-equipped phone or portable player. Sony's included an advanced form of audio coding called "aptX-HD®," for improved sound quality with devices that support this technology.
And for the best in wireless sound, you can use these headphones together with a Sony High-res Walkman. This pairing takes advantage of Sony's LDAC technology, which allows the wireless signal to retain all the musical detail that gives a song personality.
When fully charged, you can expect up to 30 hours of wireless listening with noise-cancellation turned on. You can toggle this feature on and off using the snappy touch-sensitive panel on the right earcup. It's also great for controlling music, volume, and calls with a simple tap or swipe of your finger.

Sound is awesome. Better base and tones than the Bose 35. Love the hands free controls and the phone app.
Noise canceling = Excellent, Sound Quality = Excellent, External Ear Cup Controls = Outstanding, APP = Excellent. Build Quality = Excellent. Nothing but Good things about this product. And a price discount to the Bose Quiet Comfort II made it a DONE DEAL!!
They work and sound great!
Pros: Ease of use and sound!
Great sound, features, and reviews. I agree. It can stream LDAC if you have the right kind of bluetooth phone, which is why I purchased them also. Only issue, which is minor, is that when streaming in LDAC or AptX HD/AptX you cannot use the Sony Equalizer settings in the Sony headphone app, which I really enjoyed some of those settings.
Great battery life, decent sound, acceptable NC, and fast pairing w NFC (1 second!). The controls on the side of the ear are useful and simple to use. A quick swipe on the ear cup allowse me to pause/advance the audio track, adjust the volume, interrupt audio to hear surroundings. It is hard for me to use other headphones now that I've used this unit. Sony raised the bar for sure on this one. Excellent NC headphone. A little pricey but a great all-around travel headphone. Fit is comfort but my eara and area around the seal tend to get warm after extended use which is understandable considering the job they need to do.
Pros: Battery life, NC, sound quality, ease of pairing with NFC. Headphone controls are fantastic.
Cons: Ears can get warm after extended use. Price.
Beautiful sound stage and depth. Heard the Bose that a friend owns, and we compared, both excellent.
These headphone are well worth the money! I have used them for over two weeks now and yet to charge them. Highly recommend
Total noise elimination. I was on flight MN and dod not hear any engine noise. Or other passengers. All I have to do is turn off noise canceling and can hear people talk. Love these headphones. Great sound also.
I spend a few hours already with these headphones and they have very good sound, The weight is not too heavy although when I was wearing the earphones for about 30 minutes the leather on the ear cups start to get sweaty a little for some reason. The smart phone app is very cool and you can customize a lot of things with the app too. The case is also very good and very compact. The earcup feature is pretty cool. when somebody tries to talk to you all you need t do is hold the earcup and you hear the ambient noise even with headphones on. The controls for music and volume needs a little work might seem simple but when your wearing it its a little difficult to operate. I'll keep you guys posted for bugs and glitches that I experience in the next few months.
Pros: Good battery life Clear well detailed sound Good noise cancelling properties
Cons: The leather ear cups get sweaty after 30 minutes of use in 75 degree weather/ The volume controls and music controls are a little difficult to use when wearing.
Bose has been the king of noise cancelling. However, their sound quality doesn't fit many people including myself. I've tried many different headphones while very satisfy with their sound qualify but noise cancellation is not good enough. Until now... The Sony WH-1000XM2 give both good sound quality, much better than Bose, while the noise cancellation is up there with Bose.
Pros: Great sound, great noise cancellation. Decent battery life. Ability to use wire when batter is dead as normal headphones.
Cons: Lack of share listening (3.5mm output jack).
Very comfortable , good sound quality.
These phone have a very good balanced sound . The greatest thing is the convenience. Absolutely love the UI on the right earpiece. It took a few day for the dynamics to improve. I have a galaxy S9+ and you have to make sure to setup developer options and change the setting to LDAC and 990kbps every time that you fire them up. This is a small issue for the great improvement in sound and you get used to it pretty quickly I have seem many complaints about the fit, I have no issues. For the price, they are a great value. I own 6 phones and these will become my everyday traveler. They are a keeper.
Pros: Overall balanced sound Convenient UI on the earpiece
Cons: Need to make sure to set up your transmission device correctly for the best sound.
Excellent headphones. As of 5/20/18 there is a firmware update that gives these 'google assistant'. Now, these surpass Bose qc2.
Sound is great, they are hot to wear.
Pros: Noise cancelling, sound
Cons: Too hot for summer use outside in Texas.
Sound is great Noise cancelling is work as described Only little heavy
Cons: Little heavy
These are amazing! Great features and easy to use. Noise cancelling is top notch.
Pros: Ease of use and super comfortable.
By far the best headphones I've ever had. I'm hearing sounds I've never heard before! Wonderful product absolutely worth the money
Ideal for me. Used on my recent overseas flight and these were perfect. I also use them at work to block out mechanical noise from blowers and generators. I especially like the musical quality from these when compared to other noise cancelling brands.
Bought these for a long distance plane ride to overseas. Wow! I thought I was in my living room at home listening to music and movies. Noise cancellation sensational. Excellent sound quality, could clearly hear the crappy quality of the onboard music recordings. We'll balanced high's and low's. Simple and convenient touch controls. You won't be disappointed..........................
Pros: As stated.............
Cons: None so far................
I am very happy with my purchase. First time buyer at Crutchfield.com, excellent service by Chuck. I did a lot of comparison between the Sony's and the Bose QC35II and finally settled on this one. Both have their pros and cons, but felt Sony edge higher. It was a no brainer for me with the discount.
Pros: 1) Excellent sound quality. 2) Decent app. Can set the sensitivity of noise cancelling 3) Better bass compared to Bose QC35 II
Cons: It gets a bit un-comfortable after extended use compared to the Bose QC35II.
I'm kind of a headphones junky, and I use mostly Apple products (phone, tablet, laptop). I have a bunch of wired headphones and the AirPods and Beats Studio 3s. I picked the Sony's up because I was looking for a pair of wireless noise canceling headphones for travel. That is their primary use although they see some use in the office, too. The Sony's are incredibly well made, sound great and are comfortable. They beat the Beats in all three of those categories. The way they fold is better as well. My only complaint is that they can be kind of finicky about connecting to Apple products and they are much harder to switch between products on the fly. I know this sounds like a minor thing, but it is something I use all of the time having gotten use to the AirPods and Beats Apple Bluetooth chip.
Pros: -Sound -Build -Comfort
Cons: -Bluetooth connectivity
I own several pair of noise-canceling headsets - high and low end models. None compare to the Sony WH-1000XM2. The unit pairs quickly and seamlessly with my Bluetooth enabled devices. The sound is crisp and clear. Using the recommended app was quite beneficial in tailoring the unit to my tastes. Headset operation is seamless. The style is very nice. They fit very well, even too snugly. When wearing them external noise is so low that it can be scary. Thankfully placing a hand over the right ear-cup quickly reminds me that I'm wearing them to filter all those sounds while enjoying music, videos, phone calls, etc. The rating is four star because the carrying case is a bit disappointing. It's doesn't feel solid. There is no dedicated organized location inside for the charging and wired connection cables. There is a non secured cloth like storage area on the rear side of the case.
Work just as expected. Excellent noise cancelling and have great sounds as well. The app control is also a nice feature
Pros: Noise cancelling excellent sound good design app controls are nice
Cons: No complaints
Nice sounding wireless connectivity.
Great product. Easy to set up. Very good sound.
Not impressed with sound quality. Touch controls annoying. Connecting via Bluetooth for more than one device a bit tedious (i Have iphone, Ipad, Ipod, and imac). Not comfortable after extended wearing (but perhaps all headphones are similar in this regard). Kudos to Crutchfield for easy return. Glad I tried these risk free, but they were not for me.
Cons: Sound quality.
Excellent sound. Be sure to get the Headphones app for the iPhone which allows customization of noise cancelling and sound (I believe there is also an app for the droid). Carefully review use of the touch controls on the right side earphone. Be patient and learn to use the touch control properly or you will get frustrated. It took a few days to get adjustment correct to maximize comfort. I wear these all day long at work, even if just on noise cancelling. Overall an excellent headset. A long chat with the Crutchfield advisor helped me decide to purchase this headset and so far I have not been disappoiinted.
Pros: Excellent sound. Headphones app allows customization. Touch controls are very useful.
Cons: Patience required to learn use of the touch controls. Noise cancelling is not absolute (when using with no music) but in an open office quite effective.
If these fit me better I would give them a 5 star rating. I like these headphones. They have a great sound. They are comfortable and fit well around my entire ear. The sound seems balanced with enough bass and clear mids and highs. The noise cancelling is really pretty good, both passive and active. After wearing them for a week or two, however, I think I'll be sending them back. This makes me sad because I really do like the sound, which was the main reason for buying them. I've realized that this type of headphone just doesn't fit my lifestyle. If I'm sitting or standing upright with limited motion, these are great. They are comfortable and sit well on my head. If I lean forward or backward, these headphones slide all over my head to the point where I feel like they may fall off. I feel like I'm limited in how and when I can wear these so that is why I'm likely going to return them. If these limitations I discussed don't matter to you, then these are a great pair of headphones.
Pros: Great sound and noise cancellation
Cons: Fit may be problematic for some
Definitely well worth the cost! I was searching for a good pair of noise cancelling headphones and was between these and the Bose ones. So glad I went this route! I love them and can't wait to use them on my long flight to Italy coming up next month. Great investment and I would highly recommend them to anyone!
Fantastic headphones, better than I expected. I work in a very loud shop, these things have changed my life. Much better than standard noise protection headphones and great sound to boot. The Bluetooth range is also astonishing. Worth every penny.
Ive had for a week now and have gone through an entire battery, which lasted what seemed like way more than 30 hours. Sound is great, and so is the noise cancelling. Highs and mids are solid from my listening experience, and bass starts to come through when the volume goes up. Some reviews have mentioned that these dont go very loud, but they must have hearing problems. I havent had these to max volume yet, and with the noise cancelling there is no reason to. The app is super user friendly and really lets you tailor your listening experience, and the touch pad to control your music is super cool and easy to use. Headphones are comfy, seem durable so far, and look great. The ear cups start to get my ears a little warm if i walk longer distances, but no complaint from me- i didnt buy these to exercise in. Small complaint i have is that the noise does start to leak as the volume goes up. May not be an issue in some settings, but if im in the library and a great song comes on, I cant bump as loud as i want without getting dirty looks. Still 5 stars, cant go wrong with these if you want a great pair of headphones with easily the best noise cancelling you can get for the price range.
Pros: Sound Noise cancelling App Comfy Battery life Loud Hard shell case Touch pad
Cons: Wouldnt be great to exercise in Sound leaks
First off, I love these headphones. I've been in the market for new noise canceling headphones for a while... There are so many great options. I've seen reviews about ear discomfort or the cans being too tight on your head. I've worn these things for hours and no ear fatigue. Sound quality is superb. I listen to everything from classical to electronic and these cans handle it all. Really like the ambient noise feature. This is great for around the house and still being able to hear voices. I don't know how Sony did it but this feature really works, and my wife loves that she doesn't have to throw something at me to get my attention. I travel roughly 50% of the time and these have been great on the plane. You can't beat the great battery life and how well they drown out the noise and crying children. Only downside is that these headphones leak sound... like a lot of sound. Usually this isn't an issue but if you're someone who listens to music or videos in quite places, Someone will definitely hear what you're listening to. I tested this and at around 20% volume you can start to hear sound leaking. At 75% it's crystal clear what you're listening to. Very satisfied and would recommend.
Pros: Awesome sound, great battery life, best noise canceling period.
Cons: Leaks sound
These headphones are amazing the app also makes them custom to your hearing. Also the noise cansolation is much better then BOSE. Overall set up was a simple with the I phone.
Pros: Excellent Noise Cancellation Custom set up app for you ears Easy hand gesture for volume and talk adjustments
awesome sounding headphones and great active nose cancelling features along with amazing battery life.
Sound awesome! I was impressed by the amount of outside noise actually got cancelled out
Cons: Size. Always looking for the biggest bang in the smallest package in headphones. I travel a lot, so the smaller the better. These are on par with others, so comparatively speaking, cant complain.
I'm a bass lover! I brought the Skull Candy Crusher, Bose 35 II and 1000XM2, been going back and forth listening to all kinds of music. I wanted to like the Skull and Bose...but they just don't compare to the Sony M2! I didn't like sound of the bass on the Skulls , Bose are week in the bass area. Sony M2 are just right for me! I'm keeping the Sony!
Pros: Great highs, meds and bass but not to much bass just right IMO. I'm a bass lover! Comfortable
Cons: I hope they don't crack like some of the reviews.
Who would have thunk !!! That blootooth would sound so good !! Overall these headphones are terrific, love the app and flexibility and tweak ability with the app, low profile case and overall form factor, good to excellent sound. The NC seems pretty good but I need to get onto a plane before I can really tell but in the office it's very good. Quality is also good and feel solid but I'm not going to bend and throw them around to test but you get my drift ! They are comfortable and sound very good, you can mess with the eq on the app to get it where you like. Overall I see why every review online has given this headphone top marks. I didn't give it 5 stars because for me something needs to blow my mind be over the top amazing, be more then I could have asked for, and these thou excellent are not in that league of products. Very few things are !!
Pros: Light, feel good on, quality, sound flexibility with app, the app, over sound and noise cancellation is very good
Cons: Out of the box sound is a tad Bass basis for me, wish the over pall sound was a bit more open
I think the sound quality was good, but I couldn't tell; all I could focus on was the pain of wearing headphones that are too large. Even on the smallest setting, they pinch the top of my ears and the pressure points around my jaw. Also, every time I made any attempt to adjust them, the annoying touch controls on the side would beep. I wouldn't have to keep trying to adjust them if they actually fit, so I suppose that goes back to them being too big. Judging by the reviews, I thought I would love these headphones, so for that to be ruined just by the size is really disappointing. If anyone out there is thinking to buy these, don't bother if you have a small head.
Great noise cancelling and the headphone is very comfortable when i put on. battrry is the best, almost 30 hours long for listening. I just need to charge it once in 4 or 5 days.
Pros: noise cancelling confortable battery
Cons: a bit heavy but that was bearable to me
Pros: Excellent noise cancelling. Excellent feature to cup hand over earphone and hear everything when needed! Very good sound Very good comfort Touch pad for volume, play/pause, answering calls Cons: Tactile nubs/buttons for power and noise cancelling are super slight it's hard to feel when your fingers are on them, or which one you're finger is on Bluetooth pairing to second/third/ etc. devices required 7 second button press (took me a while to figure that out through help, but worked just fine) Could be more interesting looking - all black and smooth not bad, but i've seen others more visually appealing. Expensive, but worth it so far in my opinion.
Pros: Excellent noise cancelling. Excellent feature to cup hand over earphone and hear everything when needed! Very good sound Very good comfort Touch pad for volume, play/pause, answering calls

I wanted a good alternative to my Shure 535's when I travel. After some research I settled on the Sony's. I found the sound quality decent while streaming from a Bluetooth device. The noise canceling works well, and the touch features on the ear cup are cool once you get used to them. True test will be a cross country trip at the end of March. So far, I have no buyers remorse. They have performed as advertised.
Pros: Noise canceling. Ear cup controls.
Cons: None at this time.
Great sound and very comfortable
Pros: Sound quality feel comfortable
Cons: Price hear cups could be slightly larger
Awesome product. Based on previous reviews I decided to go with the Sony vs Bose and definitely glad I went with the Sony. Great sound and love the noise canceling function. Very happy with my purchase.
Best headphones I have ever owned. Noise canceling is like magic. The ambient feature is great and many other headphones don't have this great feature. I saved a few bucks and went with the scratch and dent. They may have well been brand new! I couldn't find one thing wrong with them. Having fun listening to songs from my youth and hearing New details for the fist time now that I have a good set of headphones.
Pros: Amazing sound, noise canceling, and ambient feature. Battery life it great too.
Cons: Hardly a con but maybe not quite as light or comfortable as the Bose. Still comfy for many hours but might get a little hot after using all day.
I compared the Sony WH-1000XMS to the Bose 35's and ultimately decided on the Sony's. Couldn't be happier with the decision! Sound quality is incredible! Also, the built in touch controls are super convenient. Add in the Google assistant, mute function by simply placing your hand over the right ear cup, and these headphones are worth every penny. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for quality Bluetooth NC headphones. The build quality is also second to none!
Pros: Construction; sound quality; Google assistant; touch controls; NC quality
Just going to say it immediately but I'm not a fan of the touch pad, it responds and works just as it should but sometimes I will stretch and will touch it with my arm pausing my music. It's annoying but not a deal breaker. The headphones themselves are absolutely amazing. The first time I paired them with my iPhone the volume was not synced for whatever reason and it seemed as if the volume on the headphones did not get loud at all. Once I swiped up to max, all was good and I haven't had that issue since. Great sound and better noise canceling. You will still hear things but it's amazing how it silenced the would around you when listening to music
Pros: Noise canceling, amazing sound. Sony quality
Cons: Can creek when around your neck, touch pad can't be disabled. Micro usb (usb type C come on!!!)
Worked great on a recent flight. Much better noise cancellation than my old first gen Bose from 11 years ago. Got a little tired of wearing them on a long flight. But battery life was great.
Pros: Excellent noise reduction
Cons: A little tight on my large head
Awesome set of headphones. The noise cancelling is killer as well as the sound quality and comfort.
Pros: Sound, noise cancelling, fit
Cons: Can get a little bit warm on your ears.
Earphones are awesome so far. I have had Bose in the past and they are very comparable. Bose needs to step up their game.
Incredible set of headphones! Glad I bought them over the Bose.
Great headphones! I purchased these to replace QC25's and could not be happier. The noise cancelling is better, love the bluetooth vs. wired, and comfort is about the same. I would say that the QC's are more comfortable but the XM2's are definitely not uncomfortable. Battery life is fantastic too.
I qualify this review in that I have not had anything to compare these headphones to except some in ear cheapies. So the first thing: OMG. Second thing: OMG. These provide a beautiful emphasis on the full sound spectrum of frequencies. I signed up with the free three month trial with iTunes and it's like listening to music all over again.
The sound quality is FANTASTIC. It is better than my Bose QC35 II. They have dense ear cups that isolate sound pretty well, even without the noise cancelling turned on. They feel much better quality that Bose. The feature where you cover the ear to hear ambient sounds is really useful. It allow you to hear people when they need to talk to you without removing the cups. I worried that it would be activated by leaning against the airplane wall or something else, but it really only responds to my hand. I really enjoyed the added functionality through using the phone app. Optimizing sound based on the atmospheric pressure, whether I have my glasses or a ballcap on, etc. was my favorite feature. I appreciated the ability to control sound direction as well. Unfortunately, I found them uncomfortable after extended sessions (2 hours or more). For that I decided to just stick with my Bose. Again, sound quality really was superior. The ancillary features (touch controls, app control) were nice to have as well.
Pros: Sound Quality Touch controls Phone app functionality Density of the ear cups
Cons: Long time wearability Can't listen while plugged in to power
The Sony WH 1000xm2 is much better than my Bose NC. They were well worth the money and will make a great present.
Pros: Noise canceling and great sound
honestly the best noise canceling headphones on the market. It's nice to be able to concentrate on the music and not what's going on around you. The big plus is they produce great sound!!
Pros: Great noise canceling technology and they sound great
The best noise canceling headphones I have experience. Good sound quality too. Better than Bose.
These headphones are very comfortable and they sound great!
These are the best wireless, noise canceling headphones I have ever used. I had Bose QC 35s, and I sold them because they just couldn't measure up. These new Sony headphones just beat the socks off the QC 35s from the standpoint of sound and features. I can't say much, however, for the Headphones Connect app that goes with it. I tried the app, but there was no comparison to the EQu app I was already using. The Sony app needs a lot of improvement. The surround effects, EQ and DSEE really just did not do much for the overall sound. Plus, if you read the fine print associated with the app, Sony wants to be able to collect more information from consumers than they should. If you are concerned about security on your devices, do not use this app. The Sony WH-1000XM2s are the best headphones out there, but I would ditch the app and stick with an equalizer like EQu.
Pros: Great sound quality Excellent noise canceling Simple controls
Cons: Headphones Connect app needs much improvement and more security

Overview: The Sony WH-1000XM2 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones have all of the latest features in wireless headphones for the best experience in personal listening. With Digital Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Sound Control, and Touch Sensors on the earcups, the headphones make it easy to get the sound you want from your digital music files. The headphones include an audio cable for wired listening, airline audio adapter, a USB charging cable, and a zippered storage case.
Bluetooth/NFC: The 1000XM2 has Bluetooth 4.1 for wireless listening from your smartphone, tablet, or Bluetooth music player. Compatible profiles include A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP, with SBC, AAC, LDAC, aptX, and aptX HD codecs. LDAC transmits approximately three times more data than conventional Bluetooth, with a maximum transfer rate of 990 kbps for exceptional sound quality. For NFC-enabled devices, you can easily pair to the headphones by simply touching the device to the N-mark on the left earcup of the headphones.
Digital Noise Cancellation: The headphones are equipped with built-in microphones on the top of the earcup that captures outside noise and sends and equal-but-opposite cancelling signal to the unit. You'll be able to hear more of your music and less of the outside distractions. The Sony Headphones Connect app has a Noise Cancelling Optimizer that takes into account the shape of your face, whether or not you wear eyeglasses, even the atmospheric pressure, to make the noise cancelling effect even better.
Adaptive Sound Control: Sony's Adaptive Sound Control can detect your activity and adjust the sound settings to you. When traveling, you can immerse yourself in your music with the highest level of noise cancellation. If you're walking, the noise cancellation adapts so you can stay aware of your surroundings while listening to music. While waiting, such as in an airport or train station, the noise cancellation is reduced so you can hear important announcements. These settings can be customized to your personal tastes in the Sony Headphones Connect app.
Sony Headphones Connect App: The Sony Headphones Connect app gives you control over the sound of your headphones right on your smartphone or tablet. In addition to Adaptive Sound Control and Noise Cancelling Optimizer (mentioned above), the app's Sound Position Control lets you choose the direction from which you hear your music (Front, Front Right, Front Left, Rear Right, or Rear Left). You can select from available presets for the Surround VPT and Equalizer features, control your music (play/pause, skip forward/backward, fast forward/backward), and set the Clear Bass and DSEE HX (high range compensation for compressed music files) levels. The Sony Headphones Connect app is compatible with iOS devices (iOS 9.0 or later) and Android devices (Android 4.4 and up).
Touch Controls: Using the touch-sensitive panel on the outside of the right earcup, you can easily control all your music and calls. Volume is controlled with up or down swiping motions, while music/call controls utilize tapping and forward or backward swipes. The Quick Attention feature lets you instantly mute the audio by placing your hand over the touch pad so you can hear an announcement or conduct a conversation without removing your headphones.
High Resolution Audio: The headphones are compatible with Hi-Res Audio, allowing you to hear all of the subtle details of your music. They have powerful 40mm aluminum-coated Liquid Crystal Polymer diaphragms that can reproduce low bass notes and ultrasonic highs up to 40kHz. For true Hi-Res audio reproduction, the included 5' audio cable must be used in a wired connection to your Hi-Res-capable playback device.
Rechargeable Battery: The Sony WH-1000XM2 over-ear headphones are equipped with a 3.7-volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery to power the Bluetooth and ANC functions. The battery fully charges in approximately 4 hours via USB using the included Micro USB cable. With a 10-minute Quick Charge, you can get about 70 minutes of music playback. (See battery life estimates below in Specifications.)

Chatted with an advisor and decided that quality is worth the price. I chose the Sony because noise cancelling is quite needed for the office environment but not critical (I don't fly often). The advisor suggested in that case to purchase the Sony and get better sound. That nudged me to the Sony. I told the advisor and I will tell you that your website is excellent for one, zeroing in on the category of product and two, doing comparisons. [ Nonickname Mar 14, 2018 ]

All the reviews had them rated at the very top of noise-cancelling headphones, and I could buy these for significantly less than the Bose 35. [ Wayne Dec 12, 2017 ]

Either this or Bose. This has better revisions versus the bose QC35II's revisions (which were few, like adding a google button, who cares about that?) [ Z Nov 23, 2017 ]

Sound quality reviews were great. Excited to try these out. [ Joshua Jun 11, 2018 ]
I picked the Sony over the Bose and the others because based on the reviews, I think it may have as good of a sound and it has the barometer for airline flying which I will be doing. The 30 hour battery life is impressive and it was $50 cheaper than the Bose. I had to do it. [ Michael Jun 08, 2018 ]
Outstanding sound quality and noise cancelling capabilities [ Chris May 29, 2018 ]
Liked the gold color - different from the black. I read reviews between the Sony and Bose and thought I would go with the Sony. Good price and free shipping. [ Joan F. May 09, 2018 ]

I need noise cancelling headphones to block peoples voices. River recommended the Bowers and Wilkins PX or the Sony's. I decided to go with the Sony's for their noise cancellation. The research says that they are world class on noise cancellation. [ Michael Mar 11, 2018 ]

It's just a standard male-male headphone cord - iPhone plug size on both ends. [ Caleb Jul 10, 2018 ]
Ya you connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. But if your laptop runs on Windows 8 operating system this function doesn't work. I had to disconnect from my laptop and then connect to my mobile to receive calls. But it works all fine with my Windows 10 OS and iOS device. Can listen to music on my laptop and receive call on my phone. [ BENAKA Jun 12, 2018 ]
Using noise cancelling with a non Bluetooth (ie wired) connection is possible. NC has its own hardware button to toggle its mode. The only word of caution is that I found that the ear cups are not very wide, causing discomfort when I wear it for longer than an hour or so...not ideal for long plane rides. And I don't have particularly large ears. I returned these and purchased the QC 35 II instead. The Sony has slightly better noise cancelling performance, probably due to the feature that lets you calibrate it for your environment on demand, but that's not worth much if I can't wear it for extended periods of time. [ Nischal May 21, 2018 ]
I wasn't 100% sure so I just tried it myself and it works 100% correctly, even holding your hand over the right ear enables you to talk to someone just like it does on Bluetooth [ David May 21, 2018 ]
Yes, the noise canceling will work, with the power on, through a wired connection. For example I've used the wired connection on airplanes. Noise cancelling works great. [ Minoru May 21, 2018 ]
The volume was initially low for me until I used the actual headphones to turn up the volume, since then I have not encountered that bug again and the volume is plenty loud [ David May 21, 2018 ]
I bought the XM2 in December and I am also disappointed with the lack of volume when listening over Bluetooth. If i connect physically with the attached cable and leave the headphones turned on, I can achieve a decent volume level, but it defeats the purpose of buying wireless headphones in the first place. [ Richard Feb 19, 2018 ]
Obviously a personal preference. However, my wife has told me to turn the volume down because it was disturbing her! These headphones seem to me to go loud enough that i am concerned about damaging my hearing if i go too loud. [ Alastair Feb 18, 2018 ]
Mine have more volume than the Bose and better sound [ Howard Feb 17, 2018 ]
It depends on the specific sound bar model and it's capabilities. Most sound bars that feature built-in Bluetooth will only receive audio sent to them from Bluetooth devices (smartphone, tablet, computer) and will not transmit wirelessly to external Bluetooth speakers or headphones.
