Sony XBR-55X900E

Premium picture quality and design

Basic, bare-bones 4K TVs are now amazingly cheap. But if you want a picture that will consistently wow you, no matter what source you're using, invest in a premium 4K model like the Sony XBR-55X900E. Thanks to Sony's unsurpassed video processing technology, along with impressive peak brightness capability, this TV delivers a vibrant, lifelike picture, especially with HDR (High Dynamic Range) content.

Wide-open color, clarity and contrast

What 4K does for picture detail, HDR does for contrast and color. Before HDR, video standards were based on old-school tube TVs with low brightness capabilities. By comparison, HDR-equipped TVs like the XBR-55X900E can display much greater contrast and a wider color spectrum. The combination makes pictures pop like you've never seen before.

The XBR-55X900E's full-array LED backlight produces accurate, localized lighting across the entire screen. By dimming some areas of the screen and boosting others, Sony's X-tended Dynamic Range PRO™ technology produces a brightness range that's about 5 times wider than what we've been used to with conventional LED-backlit TVs. And Sony's Motionflow™ XR 960 with 120Hz refresh rate is still one of the best blur-reduction technologies around.

Ready for 4K and HDR content

The XBR-55X900E is a great way to enjoy the HDR picture enhancements available from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players and discs. And it will effortlessly display the streamed 4K/HDR movies and TV series available from Netflix®, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, and more.

A lot of people aren't aware that you don't need 4K content to enjoy a terrific picture on a Sony 4K TV. Based on ten years' experience upscaling movies to 4K in movie theaters around the world, Sony has developed a processor so advanced it can upscale HD content to near-4K quality. This 4K X-Reality™ Pro chip visibly improves detail and color on all your sources.

A smart home begins with a smart TV

The XBR-55X900E's built-in Android operating system lets you easily log in to your Google ID to access a huge collection of apps, games and content from Google Play. Use the Chromecast Built-in feature to stream movies, pictures, and TV shows from your iOS or Android-based phone, or from a laptop. The remote has a built-in microphone that makes it easy to search for a particular movie or actor just by saying the name.

    Fantastic picture.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I was looking to upgrade to a 4K TV, I went to a local "Box Store" to compare brands. When I looked at the wall that had this TV, it was staggering how much better the picture looked, in comparison to the other brands. Although I don't have the technical knowledge to really know, I think the full array backlight on this TV is what set the picture apart from the others. Realizing I couldn't fit the TV in my car, I knew I'd have to have it shipped to my apartment. I was thrilled to see that Crutchfield had this model in stock. There customer service is always excellent. As someone that works in the shipping industry, I see daily what can happen to large TVs, when they're not handled correctly. So when I found out that Crutchfield would ship this TV via freight service, I was thrilled. Sure enough, after UPS called me to schedule a specific day for delivery, it showed up early. When the driver opened the truck, my TV was strapped, upright, to the side. So I knew it hadn't been bouncing around the truck. And though you may find electronics cheaper on another site, Crutchfield's customer service is well worth the extra money. I lucked out. They had a "scratch and dent" model for a considerable discount. As for the TV itself: As I said, the picture is fantastic. Great viewing angles. Easy to see in a brightly lit room. The bezel and stand are very clean looking. Netflix, Amazon, and cable all look much better, compared to my previous 1080p set. And it was easy to setup.

Pros: Easy setup Great Picture Stylish bezel and stand

Cons: The apps guide is a little clunky. But one you get used to it, it's fine.

I probably haven't hooked it up to the proper incoming signal yet, I've only had it a few days, so I can only give it a 4 star rating. I'm sure it will rate a 5 star when I get the time to hook everything up properly. Been busy.

Haven't purchased an xbr in 13 years, the old one was just fine.Wanted a new tv for the playoffs and got this model, even with the sudden discount from 1299.00to999.00 it feels and looks like a 400.00 dollar tv.The picture I thought would wow me,it didn't.

Pros: Slightly better picture than my 13 year old Sony xbr

    Cons: Price,should have been 399.00 versus 999.00

    Sony, No Baloney. Great TV.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After much research and flip- flopping, decided to go with what I felt was the best non-OLED TV out there. I replaced our 5 year old 46" Samsung which I moved to the bedroom. Great decision! This TV so far, is outstanding in so many ways. Read the Crutchfield tech review and you'll understand why. I can't begin to explain it better than them or the guys at CNET. Great picture; easy to navigate; helpful on screen menu, etc. I've always like samsung, but really happy with this Sony product. And I love the voice activated remote . The only issue which really isn't one for me is the RF Blaster. Don't really see the need and can't get it to work. This set is worth the extra $'s over a similar Samsung. Crutchfield made it easy to order and was delivered free and fast! Thanks.

Pros: Picture, Set-up, Remote, aesthetics, menu, apps.

Cons: RF Blaster-HUH? TV sound not great, but excellent with sound bar connected.

Ready for the new TV's first SUPERBOWL!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sharp, vivid pictures, especially at 4K levels. Setup was easy and intuitive. When I think of buying a Sony, my expectation is a brilliant picture right out of the box. This TV does not disappoint! I've had no problems with artifacts or off-color imagery. My 4K viewing has all been via streaming, but I would certainly think other source modes would have the same results. Black level performance is solid, about as good as you could expect without making the jump to OLED technology and paying the extra bucks that entails.

    Pros: - Picture - Connectivity

    Cons: - None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great picture. Went back and forth between this and the XBR950E but couldn't justify the extra money. Plus at 70 lbs it was too heavy for the stand. Have some lipsync issues but it comes and goes. Easy set up. It found the new BluRay player and the sound bar. Some streaming Video stutters in the first few seconds of play then works fine. Streaming 4K is great. Watching "The Grand Tour" does look a little like a video game in some sections. Daughter noticed that too when watching "Wonder Woman" on BluRay. Overall quite happy with the product.

Pros: Sale Price Fantastic Picture Easy Set Up

    Cons: Some lipsync issues

    Great Picture, Horrible Operating System

Michael from Eden Prairie, MN on 1/23/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great design and Picture quality when it works. I owned a Sony XBR for 8 years that was awesome. The first X900E unit I received turned on then off after 10 mins of use. Would not turn on afterwards. The replacement unit worked most of the time. However, with my PS4 Pro it would shut off after 15 mins of game play. The straw that broke the camel's back was 4k video would have a silver band across the top of the screen (picture attached). The only way to get rid of it would be to unplug the TV and plug it back in (which resets android tv). This is a hassle in my opinion. I've had a Samsung KS8000 for about 1 1/2 years and its never exhibited any of this behavior with its operating system. Maybe you like just watching TV and don't have much 4k HDR content and it will work for you. However, for the saving it was too much trouble shooting. Crutchfield is not to blame, I'll never buy a TV from my local blue and yellow retailer. This TV has potential, its the operating system that is horrible. I repeat Android TV sucks, good luck if you buy this TV.

Pros: Picture, HDR, Brightness, Crutchfield Service

    Cons: Android TV

Crutchfield was great, TV not so much.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This review is not in regards to Crutchfield. I would highly recommend using Crutchfield to purchase your products. This review is based on my TV. The picture quality and performance is great, especially in this price bracket. The only issue I have and can't seem to get rid of, is a reddish and yellow tint from time to time in certain scenes and shows. I have done a lot of research and called Sony product support multiple times with no resolve. On that note, I have to say without hesitation that Sony customer support is horrible. As it is in many cases Sony is Outsourcing their customer service to another country. If you are lucky enough you will get someone that you can actually understand what they are saying even with the heavy accent. Every time you ask a question you are put on hold so that they can try and look up the answer. They have no product knowledge whatsoever. It finally got to a point where I asked them if they could just send me the link to the database that they keep referring to. Then after telling me they just emailed it to me, I get off the phone and there's nothing in my email. The major flaw with this product is the "Smart TV". Sony is using the Android operating system. I have an Android phone and it works pretty decent. For some reason the Android operating system on this TV does not. There are constant issues with

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 10 years with an LG HDTV, I decided to upgrade and jump onto the 4k bandwagon. I chose the Sony XBR-5X900E due to a good sale price and all he good reviews. I upgraded my receiver to a Sony STR-ZA810ES, and I upgraded my Blu-ray player to a Sony UBP-X800 for 4k compatibility. I also wanted to use the Bravia Sync technology between all three devices. Now I can use the TV remote to do most if not all functions, which is a plus. I'm really happy with the picture. One night, my wife and I were watching Game of Thrones, and even she was impressed with the picture detail. The live football mode is awesome also. We are definitely watching the Super Bowl at my house this year! I'm still figuring out all of the wireless apps and Google features. I'm mainly interested in Netflix and Pandora which is simple to set up and use. I'm very happy with the TV so far, and I think it is a well designed product.

Pros: Excellent Picture, Bravia Sync Technology (One Remote Controls TV, Blu-ray, and Receiver), Wireless Connectivity, Numerous Apps, Live Football Mode, Good Sale Price

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a difference from the HD TVs of the past. There is a technical learning curve (4K HDMI cables: smart TV - smarter than user, etc.) but not too overwhelming. Sound quality is about what was expected. Glare/reflections from outside are barely noticeable with this TV. Assembly instructions were thorough and the stand appears very sturdy. If there was any part of this purchase experience that was negative is shipping, delivery and customer support. The TV ended up in Hong Kong for what ever reason I will never understand and it took an extra two work days to arrive as a result; carton was damaged and slit open on the screen side of the box; Crutchfield personal assistant never answered my call regarding the issue; I was never called prior to delivery to my home as advertised; and when the TV was delivered, the driver threw the tv box over his shoulder and walked it to my door -- completely ignoring the mfg's handling instructions. The TV get's 5 stars; the rest is about 1 star.

    Pros: Product

Cons: Shipping, delivery and customer service.

Crutchfield response on 12/27/2017 Thanks for your review. We're glad you're enjoying your TV, but this is not the prompt, careful shipping and delivery experience that we've come to expect from our shipping partner. It deserves some attention. Online tracking records do not show anything out of the ordinary, so our Customer Support team will contact you for more details. We will then follow up with the shipper.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 5 year old 51" Samsung plasma ( which I bought from Crutchfield) gave up - and I miss it. I have used the Sony XBR 55X900E to watch cable and over over-the-air broadcasts. I have yet to view it using Ultra HD media. The picture really pops with bright colors and excellent contrast. The setup is easy and straight forward and its operation does not generate interference to my receiver like the plasma did. The Sony only weighs 37 lbs which is almost half the weight of the Samsung. I miss the plasma's softer picture and high angle clear picture. The Sony has a "football mode" but the set has real difficulty with motion, especially if the uniforms are red. In extreme cases it is almost not watchable. This is not an entry level TV and I expected much better. I miss a comprehensive written operation manual but that is the trend and I will have to use the "help" button.

Pros: The picture really pops with bright colors and excellent contrast. The setup is easy and straight forward. It only weighs 37 lbs which makes it easy to install.

Cons: The Sony has a "football mode" but the set has difficulty with motion, especially if the uniforms are red. In fast action situations it can be unwatchable. High angel viewing is not very good. It also reflects excessive light from behind the viewers.

Great picture! Reasonably good sound. Physical set-up very easy. Great experience to date although I haven't yet tried to fine tune video or set up Android smart TV features. Display information feature sometimes closes automatically too soon - I would prefer a toggle. I use an outside antenna with most station transmitters about 42 miles away. The scanner picked up several stations that my previous TV could not.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome TV. I used to buy samsung TV's until I had a problem with one during the first year. I also had problems with some appliances, so I decided to look for replacements. Sony TV's kept coming up as the best TV. I went and looked at them side by side with LG and Samsung. No doubt, Sony is better. After I had 2 other Sony's, I found out they work with Alexa, so now I just ask and it turns on, off, changes channel (when not using the cable box) and adjusts the volume.Cool trick that wows people, but when they see the picture, that puts Sony on top. I will never go back to another brand of TV. Plus buying from Crutchfield is fantastic. They bring the TV to me, UPS calls to schedule delivery and the driver called to let me know he was on his way to my house. He even put the TV inside the door for me, insisted I open the box and check for damage before I sign and helped lift the TV to the couch (it was out of the box). Plus it was cheaper than the local big box store. And did I mention, they brought it to me, so I didn't have to try and get it in my car. If this isn't good enough, when ever I call with a question, I always get someone really nice and caring, and actually knows what they are talking about. Crutchfield is the best.

Pros: Picture, controls, sound(good for TV speakers) ease of use with theatre system, HDMI ports and USB ports face towards side not back against the wall, easy to mount to wall,

Cons: Picture is so sharp and clear news anchors look horrible (not TV's fault)

I've had this TV for a week now and to say I'm blown away would be a total understatement. I was actually set to buy LG OLED but at the last minute looked at this and the black Friday deal was too good to pass up. And boy am I glad I did. The color, the clarity, the black levels and brightness are extraordinary. The black level really surprised me. I can't imagine OLED being all that much better, but that would be at a serious cost. No one does color, and processing like Sony. Its what sets them apart from everyone. Also Crutchfield as always has the best advisors and customer service in the world. They will not lead you in the wrong direction, and if there are any issues they will make it right, period. I really do love Crutchfield. Thank you to all the advisors I talked to and customer service people I had the pleasure of getting to chat with.

Pros: Color, black levels, clarity, and brightness is something to behold.

I have an older Panasonic Plasma that has slightly better Blacks but the 4K output of this TV simply is in another league. The image "jumps out" with it's depth and clarity. I did my homework on this TV and the Sony clearly had the better picture. Outstanding product, to say the least!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We researched TVs for two years before deciding to buy this one. We considered OLED, but because most of our viewing is over-the-air, we didn't think a slightly better picture would be worth the extra money. The reviews mostly pointed to this set as the best value for a non-OLED. At first, I didn't think the picture was markedly better than our ten-year-old Sony projection set, so I put them side-by-side and the difference was obvious, even to my wife who couldn't care less about such things. Blacks are black, whites are white, and the sharpness and contrast are far superior to what we'd been watching. We also got the matching Sony 4K Blu-Ray player and when I popped in a homemade DVD of vacation photos, we were amazed at how much better they looked on this TV. I would have given it 5 stars except for two things: first, the audio and the video are just enough out of sync to be slightly annoying. We have not watched any DVD movies to see if it might be a reception problem rather than a problem with the TV itself, but it's something we never observed with our old set; second, the instruction manual is next to useless. I downloaded and printed the online manual from the Sony website, but it's such a jumbled mess that finding useful information is a struggle.

Pros: The picture is as good as it gets. Matched with a 4K Blu Ray player, it's even better.

Cons: Audio/video out of sync. Instruction manual poorly written.

We did a lot of research trying to decide on the right TV to upgrade to 4K. The rating and comments on the Sony XBR-55X900E were very high. I think it's a really great choice. Set up was easy and the picture is outstanding and the colors are amazing. I did upgrade my HDMI to a 4K cable. This is a good quality TV for a decent price. Smooth transaction, quick shipping and excellent technical support from the Crutchfield team. Thanks

    Pros: Too many to list!

Cons: A more in depth manual.

The picture is absolutely amazing. I went to a local big box store and compared this TV to all the current models and this was far and above the best. The closest you will get to OLED like Blacks. The 900e is a full array while the 930e is edge lite. To me the picture is better then the 930e. For what you get with this TV the value is amazing. The brightness is perfect even with a few windows in our bedroom. Much better then the LG OLED. You can't go wring with this Sony television.

Pros: Excellent picture quality. Easy to set up. Have had no issues with the android operating system. Arc works great.

I have had this TV for about a month. The picture is amazing and a big step up from the previous SONY TV that I replaced. My only issue with the TV so far has been that the actual remote (that I only use to change the HDMI input) seems to have a lag that is a bit long. Other than that a great value.

Video is close in quality to our OLED TV. I would be able to get a better comparison if they were side by side, but one is upstairs and the other is downstairs. The audio output is equal to or better than the OLED and much better than the 32" Sharp which the Sony replaces. I'm going to hold off on purchasing a separate sound bar for the time being because it's sound is so good. The controller is more complicated than the OLED controller, but it has many more functions available on it. The Crutchfield delivery was quick and handled with care by the shipper. No problem with set up. As usual, the manual could provide more information. You can go online for more instructions, just like every other electronic device.

Very nice TV. It was easy to set up and start using. We have it in a porch room with lots of windows so glare was a concern. However since it is backlit and NOT edge lit it does very well. The picture is nice and clear, wow! We put in a Blu-ray of the first Hobbit movie and saw detail we had not seen before. Viewing the picture from the angles we have is no problem. I am still using my Roku so can't comment on the Smart aspect of this tv.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although the TV is a little expensive it is well worth it if you can get it on sale. The picture quality is really amazing especially with HDR engaged. The 4k picture is stunning ,bright and detailed with a 4k bluray. The blacks are nearly perfect. Definitely not the quality of an OLED display but probably about as close as you can get with an full array LED TV. The only issue I have with the display is the android OS. It is functional but not fun to use. It has too many overlapping layers and is not very intuitive to use. I would have rather seen Sony use something like TCLs Roku system. It's settings for picture adjustments and such are also difficult to manage through until you get used to them. It's picture quality does offset these small negatives however. Definitely this years best mid-price 4k TV opinion. Highly recommended TV.

    A worthy plasma replacement

    Jeff from NY on 10/20/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy so far. I'm one of those snobby Panasonic plasma owners and had bad experiences with LCD TV's in the past so I held off on "upgrading" to a new LED/LCD TV for as long as I realistically could. (OLED TV's are still too expensive, and I did get tired of the image retention issues of my plasma, which OLED also suffers from.) But I read good things about this TV and I decided I "need" 4K, so I took the plunge. And so far, I'm glad I did. The picture on the X900E is very smooth for an LCD - typically I find LCD's harsh, but using some settings I found plus a calibration disc, I was able to tame this one to where it looks very similar to plasma. The black level is shockingly good for an LCD. My plasma has aged and the auto black level compensation has kicked in, so to my eyes the black level on the X900E actually looks better at this point. My pet peeve with LCD TV's generally is the "dirty screen effect", aka bad screen uniformity where there can be dark splotches or bands. But I saw tests that showed this TV basically had no dirty screen effect and my viewing has borne that out - it's very even, and panning shots don't annoy me like on most LCD's. The only unevenness is right at the corners, where the backlight is noticeably darker. My only criticisms so far are no Dolby Vision, and Android TV. The latter is slow and cumbersome; doing something simple like switching to Game mode to reduce input lag is annoying, and requires a lot of menu scrolling.

Pros: Clean, smooth picture (after setup), very good black level, no "dirty screen effect", lots of picture adjustments possible in the menus for self-calibration. Obviously 4K and HDR (10).

Cons: No Dolby Vision, Android TV is slow, cumbersome, and overloaded with junk. Menus are confusing and difficult to navigate, especially given the random pauses and hitches as you scroll through stuff. Also, very minor nitpick but the screen coating looks kind of plasticky and cheap when the TV is off. My old plasma looks classier.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The TV made it to AK without damage, which surprised me since most boxes look like they're kicked rather than flown. I had a couple questions before ordering & Harley was able to answer them. CS is always helpful IMAO. Once the TV arrived, I had it put together and ready to watch in less than an hour by myself. I let the TV sit overnight to adjust to the temperature since it had been on the delivery truck all day at 40°. This TV replaced a 10 yr old Sony flatty that cost just about the same back then. The difference in pic is amazing right out of the box! I'm hooked up to cable TiVo and haven't played with any settings much, but do expect to. I'm hard of hearing and thought I might need a sound bar to hear things since my old TV was usually turned up in the 25-30+. I'm listening to shows under 20! The disinstruction manual is kind of a let down, it's like they left half of it out. It could be because I don't purchase new TV's every 3 or 4 yrs or keep up with the latest. Another thing I noticed right off the bat was the remote didn't have a "Sleep" button. (One of the reasons I purchased the Sony was due to Samsung crappy remote.) I was going to box the TV right then, no way was I going to pay this much $$ & not have a sleep timer! I tried my old remote & it brought up the timer function! It's available in the settings, dumb. Not sure why Sony chose to remove the timer button from the remote, perhaps I'

Pros: Great pic right out of the box. Simple to setup.

Cons: Instruction manual is terrible, it's like Sony left have of it out. Where did the "sleep" or "timer" button go?

Pete from Herndon, VA on 8/20/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The jury is still out on this TV. No matter what I do in terms of calibrating it, I just can't seem to get the settings to a point where there is a consistently sharp picture; in fact, there are times when the left side of the screen will be sharp and clear but the right side will be a bit blurry. And when I use the recommended online settings, the picture seems far too dark for me. When I try to watch something that is Ultra HD (4K), say on Amazon Prime, the picture does not transition smoothly--even though I have a strong Wifi signal in the house; maybe I need to put in an ethernet cable. And trying to synch up my sound bar using HDMI ARC has been impossible to figure out without incurring a 10 second delay before there is sound when turning on--have to use the optical cable instead. All of which is to say, the 1080p picture on my old Toshiba 50 inch, 60 Hz TV that I paid $600 for was clearer and sharper. I think I need to have the Crutchfield folks walk me through my issues to see if I can get satisfaction. Still, unless mine is defective, I feel confident this TV will get me where I want to be---just haven't gotten there yet.

I am coming from a Panasonic plasma and am a big fan of the lush, realistic colors from plasma vs. LED, but no need to go on about that as plasmas are no more. I am very impressed with the Sony. I have only watched upscaled 1080p content (no native 4K so can't comment on that). The picture does have an excellent appearance of depth and excellent detail. Colors are bright. It looks very thin and sleek (I have it on a TV cabinet, not on the wall). The thin black frame on the unit contributes to its sleek appearance and the brushed metal stand looks great as well. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The TV arrived on a Friday, but delivery was Monday afternoon. The wait was worth it and set up was a breeze. The picture is great to begin with, and only the color appeared to strong and was turned down to a more natural look. My connections were HDMI inputs, TIVO being my primary HDMI1. Sound output is Toslink 5.1 Dolby to my receiver for great sound in 5 channels. The TV channels set up quickly, too. I also have tuners on two computers that record digital 5 channel programming that input into HDMI2. Set up! Now, understanding all the features takes some time, but I was watching my Netflix in 5 channel HD and UHD right away. Google Play, Crackle, and others are available, too. I did find that HBO GO for Android was not supported by my internet provider, but since I have computers connected I can play HBO GO from the internet. It was also nice that you can Discover the Video on your computers, too, that plays fine. Much of the later content plays only in stereo, however, even the Sony Playstation content. And, the Picture-in-picture function just added via the Android TV update is difficult to understand right now, appearing only to provide a picture of what you are currently watching in the small screen, and the ability to select other functions in the large window that when selected become the full screen (not a twin or PIP screens TV). This is disappointing, so far, since being able to have a PIP of two broadcasts is a nice feature not yet possible.

Pros: Easy to set up and use, Great Picture with great android options, Netflix, and Dolby Sound. Voice control is nice. View from all angles in my den does not deteriorate the picture quality.

Cons: Picture-in-picture function needs work. Some providers only have stereo output from the Toslink TV output. Haven't found a TIVO code that provides ability to switch inputs, only show current input. I forget about voice input.

After about 6 years with a 48" Samsung mid range HDTV I decided to increase my screen size and take advantage of 4k and HDR technologies. There are many great televisions out there but I have never had a negative experience with Sony so I began my search examining professional and customer reviews and ended up picking this model. I also took advantage of the 24 month 0% interest Sony financing. I have had this TV for a month now and I have consistently been impressed by the quality of the picture, depth of colors etc. As soon as you remove the set from the box you can tell this is a higher end model, from the high quality stand to remote and very attractive set itself it is a nice piece to have. As a side note shortly after receiving my TV I saw that the price was reduced by $100. I was of course impressed that a simple email asking about price protection resulted in a refund of the $100. Fantastic picture, five stars for the picture. After watching a plasma TV for many years I was concerned about going to an LCD. Straight on the picture is better than I've seen. Amazing TV. Incredible black levels and color depth, even for videos that aren't HDR. The TV has a full suite of adjustments to almost every aspect of the picture quality, and the motion smoothness options are much better than Samsung and LG IMO. Video games look dramatically better in general with HDR, and this TV does a better job with the colors and picture quality than I've seen on other LEDs. No banding issues or smudges, and it may sound like an afterthought but the packaging is also excellent- very easy to set up without having to fight the box and worry about damaging the TV. I suppose the only thing I wish it had wasn't easier picture mode switching (i.e. One button) rather than having to wade through the menu. Oh well. Also, Crutchfield was outstanding to buy from.

Pros: Overall picture quality, color depth and black levels, motion options, HDR management, 4K upscaling, packaging

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start off by typing, this is the first Sony tv that I have ever owned. Sony tvs , in the past have always been expensive compared to Samsung, LG, etc. Therefore I always purchased other brands, because of perceived value. Now a days, I think that you get what you pay for, because of competition. I think this tv is an excellent choice because it offers a lot of bang for the buck as far as technology and build quality. I am replacing a Panasonic plasma, so it had to be really good to impress me. The black level is really good, compared to the plasma. I'm feeding it Comcast Xfinity cable, so, It's not getting the best feed offered. Directv offers a much better picture, but, didn't offer very good internet. Long story short, I feel this tv offers a lot of bang for the buck! Excellent picture, excellent user interface when you decide to utilize the "Smart" features it offers. 4K through Netflix is awesome! 4K through Amazon Video leaves me questioning their commitment to it. My experience has been less than impressive. The picture freezes and jumps around a lot. Not good. Overall, I am very impressed with my Sony tv!

Pros: Awesome 4K picture. Excellent build quality. Very nice looking tv.

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an exceptional tv. Let me get into it: Black levels 4/5: they are very good, and blooming from the local dimming is almost never seen. I would say that they are much better than most lcds and edge lit leds, just as good as a plasma but not perfect like oled or crt. Still most of the time they are inky black even in a pitch black room as long as you're watching real world content including dark scenes. White levels 5/5: super bright, definitely enough to do hdr justice. Overall Contrast: 9/10 A- Color Saturation: 5/5 the colors pop using any preset Color Accuracy: 5/5 the colors appear natural with accurate grayscale tracking and skintones appear perfect Overall Color: 10/10 A+ Pixel Resolution 5/5: 1080p and 4k look equally sharp and noise free Motion Resolution 5/5: video, 24p film and games all appear buttery smooth with no blurring and input lag is extraordinarily low, absolutely amazing on an lcd tv Overall Resolution: 10/10 A+ Physical Build 4/5: the legs that attach to the stand feel heavy duty, but the stand is plastic. There is precision in the execution of the design with the screw holes matching perfectly between the parts. Some sites describe the screen as semi-glossy but I can see reflections with no blurring at all, so I would describe the screen as glossy. Physical Aesthetics 5/5: A glossy, nearly bezel-less screen with a faux-silver stand looks great. The back is surprisingly not that thick f

Pros: Great contrast Great color saturation Great color accuracy Great natural sharpness Great motion resolution Presets are perfect, no need for calibration

Cons: Imperfect blacks (deep but not absolute) Clunky UI and remote, slow menus Full 4k up to 60 Hz with deep color only available on 2 of the inputs

Unbelievable Picture Fully Backlit 4K HDTV!!!

Shawn from Ellicott City, MD on 6/17/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

TV is back lit entirely through unlike all other LED HDTV's that are side lit by LED. Screen is MUCH brighter and more vivid. Extremely beautiful picture at 4K. Even 1080p is beautiful. Has four HDMI outlets on the back, and standard cable outlets, USB and more. TV is extra light. I lift it with two hands from bottom and top. Less than 45lbs I'm guessing. Ultra thin TV, easy to use interface unless you're not tech savvy, simple navigation, typical up down left right enter that's easy to use, ton's of adjustment capabilities for picture, sound is good, and has a Netflix button on the remote that takes you right to Netflix. Buying it from Crutchfield was the same price locally, but with Crutchfield I got online tech support and a 60 day money back guarantee. I also bought the extra warranty for 3 years so all in all it's a GREAT buy! Love my TV. And as a side point, the Crutchfield representative that talked to me on the phone about the TV and it's apps and specs was extremely knowledgeable. So that was a plus! All in all, if you are considering this TV and buying it locally, I'd say buy it from Crutchfield. It's shipped professionally, not a dent on the box, and was in perfect condition when I took it out. Not a scratch on it.

Pros: It's fully back lit unlike other TV's. Thin design. Everything is in the back and hidden. The entire front is all picture. Picture is ultra bright and vivid, and even has a direct button to Netflix on the remote.

Cons: None really. I love mine.

    Best Sony XBR I've owned!

    Mike from FL on 6/6/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We bought this XBR since we had two others from Crutchfield in the past 6 years. This new one replaced a 46" VBR with the wide speaker panels on either side. The picture difference is amazing. The new XBR has the bells and whistles but the main attraction is the incredible picture. We are very pleased with the unit and the delivery from Crutchfield to Florida was smooth; no damage, free shipping and good instructions for a quick set up. That's why I still do business with Crutchfield since the days of Cambridge Soundworks speakers, if anyone remembers those! Captain Mike

Pros: Picture quality; Sony excellence; light weight and price.

    Cons: Haven't found any yet...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product arrived quickly and set-up was easy. Just one HDMI from my AV Receiver to the ARC connection point, then plug in and it took me to set-up and a software update. I recommend you upgrade your modem and wi-fi router prior to installation. I bought a Lynksis Velop system that covers a much larger house and the modem hooked right up with Comcast so I didn't need to call. I bought a Sony ES STR-ZA810ES receiver at the same time as both my prior Denon and Toshiba died about the same time. I haven't yet used any of the apps that came with the TV nor have I yet played a 4K source but that will happen soon. Yes, the user manual is junk but everything is on-screen so it doesn't matter. The picture is superb and the set quality is really nice. I am glad I bought a Sony.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the TV. It is nice and bright and the Android TV works well. I only give this 4 stars as I am not totally happy with the way Sony structures their app interface. I am used to Samsung, so perhaps I just need to tinker a little more. I bought this product because I wanted to stream Sony Playstation VUE and it works perfect.

Pros: Great picture, good sound, fairly easy to use.

4K HDR: For the ultimate in picture quality, this TV pairs the brilliance of 4K clarity with the brightness, color, and detail of High Dynamic Range (HDR). Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most lifelike picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail.

    • Ultra 4K Resolution: See more on TV than ever before with over 8 million individual pixels (3,840 x 2,160) compared to about 2 million (1,920 x 1,080) on your 1080p HDTV. Advanced picture processing also ensures that every single pixel displays images with superb brightness and authentic detail. It's the highest resolution picture Sony has ever produced on a TV.
    • HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. Previously hidden areas of dark shadow and sunlight are now full of clarity and detail. The Sony TV supports two HDR formats - including HDR10 which is the most widely used format and is installed from the factory, plus HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) which is designed for over-the-air broadcast and requires an over-the-network firmware update.

Note: Please use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view HDR content.

4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler: Sony's  4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler enhances Ultra-HD, HD, and SD images by analyzing and refining images with beautifully natural detail and astounding color. This 4K television upscales your favorite TV shows, DVD and Blu-ray movies, even video-on-demand content, and smartphone videos to Ultra-HD quality. This unique 4K X-Reality PRO picture processing technology upscales every pixel for remarkable clarity. Advanced noise reduction techniques and a special pattern database ensure every scene is full of lifelike detail. One database is used to clean the picture, reducing on-screen noise; the other is used to upscale the resolution, improving clarity; while another database improves color, brightness, and contrast. These three powerful image improvement databases work together, dynamically improving pixels in real time. Each database has tens of thousands of references, amassed from Sony's experience creating content for TV and movies over the years.

    • Upscaling Database: Unique to Sony, 4K X-Reality PRO picture processing upscales every pixel for remarkable clarity. Pixels across multiple frames are analyzed and images sharpened and refined in real time. You will immediately see the detail appear in faces and skin tones.
    • Pattern Database: With 4K X-Reality PRO, patterns in images are compared with patterns stored in a unique database to find the best hue, saturation, and brightness for each pixel. Sony uses the knowledge gained from developing and filming blockbuster movies and TV shows to deliver supremely lifelike detail in everything you watch.
    • Noise Reduction Database: Compressed noise is identified by the database, which includes "before and after" data on what a picture should look like and removes the compressed picture noise. A variety of noise reduction techniques are then used by 4K X-Reality PRO to sharpen and refine images. You'll immediately see how scenes become clearer, smoother, and more natural.

4K HDR Processor X1: The 4K HDR Processor X1 with Object-based HDR remaster and Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR technology gives pure colors at higher brightness levels for truly natural pictures. See everything you watch come to life with greater depth, detail, and texture.

    • Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR: Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR creates a smoother, more natural picture by minimizing its color banding. With 14-bit powerful signal processing, it breaks up the solid bands of color of an 8-bit or 10-bit source, up-converting to 14-bit equivalent gradation, with 64x more color levels. It delivers graceful reproduction of faces, sunsets, and other areas of subtle color.
    • Object-Based HDR Remaster: By analyzing the objects in each scene individually, Object-based HDR remaster optimizes and enhances color and contrast. It brings everything you watch closer to the quality of HDR. Dark elements get darker, bright elements brighter, and everything in between is more accurately lit, for realism in every scene never-before-possible on our TVs. You'll see contours on mountains, hidden textures on flowers, depth in clouds, and wildlife has the contrast and color of nature, for a more natural and realistic picture on screen.

X-tended Dynamic Range PRO 5x: With extraordinary precision in backlight control, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO makes darker areas darker and brighter scenes brighter, revitalizing every scene with the widest range of brightness possible.  This unique backlighting algorithm faithfully reproduces a far wider brightness range than a conventional LED-LCD TV with brighter peaks and deeper, more revealing shadow detail and blacks. By precisely balancing the light output across the screen, dimming some areas and boosting others, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO reveals a brightness range 5x greater than a conventional LED-LCD TV. When combined with a 4K HDR signal, you'll experience even greater brilliance in every scene as it increases the quality of HDR with more vibrant colors

TRILUMINOS Display: Unique to Sony, a TRILUMINOS Display with its specially developed backlight selectively maps colors across a wider gamut, ensuring subtle colors do not become oversaturated and unnatural. You'll enjoy vivid, authentic images that evoke the emotion in every scene. The more pencils you have to draw an image, the more vibrant and lifelike it becomes. TRILUMINOS Display works in the same way, using a wider color spectrum than a conventional LED-LCD display. A TRILUMINOS Display excels at reproducing reds, greens, and blues; colors that are notoriously difficult for TVs to display accurately. It also displays skin tones beautifully, thanks to its extensive color palette and precise gradation.

MotionFlow XR 960 Technology: Enjoy smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sequences with Motionflow XR 960. Sony's MotionFlow XR 960 technology feature a precise backlight control that is synchronized with the liquid crystal movement from frame-to-frame creating clearer, sharper moving images. MotionFlow XR 960 combines 120 frames-per-second with the TV's advanced LED backlight system to simulate a 960 Hz effect. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones and then compares key visual factors on successive frames, then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences. MotionFlow XR 960 provides smooth and precise detail during fast-action scenes for fast action movies and sports by reducing blur caused by quick camera movements, enhancing image sharpness, and overall creating a clearer picture. You can select between various settings - Standard, Smooth, Clear, True Cinema (24fps), and Custom.

Video Inputs: The Sony Ultra-HD TV is equipped with HDMI 2.0a, Component, and Composite video inputs. A back cover has to be removed to access these video inputs.

    • HDMI 2.0a: The Ultra-HD TV is fitted with four HDMI 2.0a inputs to connect your Ultra-HD/HDR and HD sources; such as Ultra Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Satellite/Cable and Playstation. In addition, any HDMI input can be used to connect a PC to this TV. The HDMI inputs will accept 4K, 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. HDMI inputs 2 & 3 will do 4K (60Hz), while HDMI inputs 1 & 4 will only support 4K (30/24Hz)
      • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by all of the TV's HDMI inputs. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with Ultra HD Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.
      • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All four HDMI inputs will support up to 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for full color data rendering of 4K video (30/60fps). 4:2:2 (30/60fps) and 4:2:0 (60fps) are also supported by all HDMI inputs. With 4:4:4 color, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail.
    • Component/Composite: There is one combination analog video input that can be used as a component or composite video input; it shares a single stereo RCA audio input. As a component video input, it will accept 1080p (60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. As a composite video input, it will support 480i video signals only. There is also a 3.5mm AV input for connection of an analog audio/video component.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

Picture Adjustments: The TV offers a variety of screen, picture, and video adjustments to maximize image quality.

    • Screen Modes: The Screen Modes feature allows you to select the screen display which fits the current video image and TV screen best. Choose from Wide Zoom, Normal, Full, Zoom, or Auto Wide. Based on the original signal source, you may see black bars around the picture or just on the both sides of the screen. Sometimes you will see the picture fill  the full screen.
    • Picture Modes: You can select one of the following picture modes - Standard, Vivid, Cinema (Pro/Home), Sports, Animation, and Custom.
    • Advanced Video Settings: The Advanced Video Settings menu offers further adjustment of the TV's video image.
      • Brightness: You can increase or decrease the brightness of an image by adjusting the TV's Brightness, Contrast, Gamma (adjusts light/dark balance), Black Level, and Black Adjust (enhances black areas).
      • Color: You can tailor the color of an image by adjusting the TV's Color, Hue, Color Temperature (white balance), Color Space (sets color reproduction range), or Live Color (produces vivid colors).
      • Clarity: You can improve the clarity of an image by adjusting the TV's Sharpness, Reality Creation (increases clarity), Resolution (increases detail), and Noise reduction (removes noise).
      • Motion: Activate Sony's Motionflow technology to reduce motion blur and judder. CineMotion provides improved picture movement and reduces picture blur and graininess for film-based content, like Blu-ray & DVD.

Light Sensor & Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE): The TV's built-in Light Sensor automatically adjusts the picture brightness based on the amount of light in the room. As a result, you can enjoy automatic customized picture brightness and save energy without lifting a finger. The televisions Advance Contrast Enhancer (ACE) automatically adjusts backlight and contrast to the most suitable setting judging from the brightness of the screen. This setting is especially effective for dark scenes, and will increase the contrast distinction for the darker picture scenes.

Live Color Technology: Powered by an image processor using an algorithm specially developed by Sony, Live Color is able to reproduce incredibly vivid colors on screen. With four user-adjustable settings available (High/Medium/Low/Off), you can choose just how vivid you want your images to be. Whether it's a brilliant blue sky or a bright red rose, everything stands out so much more with Live Color.

Dynamic Contrast Enhancer: The Dynamic Contrast Enhancer optimizes the range of brightness frame-by-frame according to what's happening on screen to reproduce deeper blacks, brighter whites, and more video color.

24pTrue Cinema (24p Input Capability): Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p input capability via HDMI on this television producing images that are smooth and natural looking.

PIP (Picture-in-Picture): Through an over-the-network firmware update, the TV will support PIP (Picture-in-Picture). This feature lets you watch the TV's over-the-air tuner in a small window on-screen, while viewing an Android TV app (like Netflix or Amazon).

    Audio Features

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 3 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.

    • The audio from the TV's tuner, HDMI inputs, USB ports, and Android TV apps can pass as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, DTS, or 2ch PCM.
    • Analog connected & DLNA compliant devices will be output audio at 2ch PCM only.

Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an AV receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 3 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.

Audio Outputs: The Sony Ultra-HD TV offers analog and digital audio outputs, as well as Bluetooth headphone pairing (firmware update required).

    • Digital Audio (Dolby Digital/DTS): The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, and USB ports on the TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via RCA.
    • Headphone/Analog Output: The TV's 3.5mm analog output can be used to connect a set of headphones or as an audio output to connect your home theater receiver or soundbar system. You will need a minijack-to-RCA adapter (sold separately) to make a stereo RCA connection between the television and your AV receiver. The TV's analog audio output terminal will output 2ch audio from any of the television's source inputs. You can set the TV's analog output to Fixed or Variable. You can set the TV to automatically mute the built-in speakers when a set of headphones are connected.
    • Bluetooth Headphone Pairing (Requires Firmware Update): Through an over-the-network firmware update, the TV will be able to support Bluetooth headphone pairing - allowing you to stream audio from the television's built-in and connected sources to a Bluetooth-enabled set of headphones (only one set of headphones can be paired - not compatible with Bluetooth speakers). Bluetooth headphone volume level can be controlled from both the TV's remote and headphones. The TV's built-in speakers and audio outputs will be deactivated when streaming audio via Bluetooth.

S-Force Front Surround: S-Force Front Surround mimics the way the brain correlates sound sources to create proper volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum; using only left and right speaker channels. By naturally emulating three-dimensional sound fields, you'll enjoy rich, high-fidelity audio across a wider listening area.

ClearAudio+: ClearAudio+ fine-tunes TV sound for an immersive experience that seems to surround you. Hear music, dialog, and surround effects with greater clarity and separation, whatever you're watching.

Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE): Low-resolution Internet video and other heavily compressed audio files don't always sound so great. A large amount of information gets thrown away when digital audio is compressed. With Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, lost frequency components (especially high frequencies) are restored for natural sound with a more spacious feel.

Clear Phase: Sony uses a powerful computer model to analyze and compensate for inaccuracies in speaker response. It does this by "sampling" the speaker frequency with higher precision. This information is fed back to cancel out any peaks or dips in the speaker's natural response; resulting in pure, natural audio with smooth, even reproduction of all frequencies.

EQ: The TV offers four EQ preset sound modes - Standard, Cinema, Music, and Live Football. The TV is also equipped with a 7-band EQ (125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz). You can adjust the level of each band between -12 to +12 dB.

Voice Zoom & Night Mode: The Voice Zoom feature makes voices clearer by lowering background sound. Night mode provides a clear sound at a low volume levels.

Volume Offset & Auto Volume: Volume Offset adjusts the volume level of the current input relative to other inputs. The Advanced Auto Volume function keeps the volume level constant across all programs and advertisements.

TV Position: The speakers of this TV provide different sound images according to how you position the television. You can select between "Table-Top Stand" or "Wall Mount" to provide the best sound quality based on the television's placement.

    Network & USB Functions

Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Sony Ultra-HD TV supports a wired or wireless network connection. Via the TV's network connection you gain access to Android TV and Google Play, as well as content stored on your network computer. You also get the ability to stream content from your Android or Apple iOS mobile device to the TV.

    • Ethernet (LAN) Jack: The Sony TV is equipped with an Ethernet (LAN) RJ-45 jack for connecting the television to your home network and computer. A back cover has to be removed to access the Ethernet port.
    • WiFi (wireless LAN): The Sony TV offers built-in WiFi (802.11ac; 2.4/5GHz) that allows you to wirelessly access the Internet and your home network. The TV's built-in WiFi provides a wireless network connection for the television with easy and quick setup. A wireless connection requires a home network with an 802.11 access point (802.11n or better recommended) and internet connection. Supports WPS, WEP, and WPA security; a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router is recommended for 4K streaming.
Note: Sony recommends a home network connection speed of at least 2.5 Mbps recommended for standard definition, 10 Mbps for high definition, and 20 Mbps for ultra-high definition.

Android TV w/ Google Play: The Sony Ultra-HD TV is equipped with Android's Marshmallow (6.0.1) operating system and incorporates Android TV with access to a wide variety of apps from Google Play which have been optimized for playback on the big screen. Android TV gives you access to movie, music, sports, and other entertainment apps (subscription, rental, or purchase fees may apply). Click here to discover the full collection of Android TV Apps from Google Play. Not all Google Play apps will be Android TV compatible. More applications and streaming services will be available in the future. Popular apps include -

Note: 4K & 4K HDR network streaming requires a network speed of 20Mbps or greater. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended over a wireless WiFi connection for better performance. If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router (or better) for 4K streaming. Make sure the Sony television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.

Mobile Device Streaming: The Sony Ultra-HD TV allows you to wirelessly stream content from a compatible mobile device using ChromeCast Built-in for playback on the big screen. You can also "mirror" your compatible mobile device using Miracast.

    • Chromecast Built-in: Chromecast Built-in lets you cast your favorite entertainment apps and video content from your Android (OS 4.4.2+) or Apple iOS (8.0+) device to the Sony Ultra-HD TV. Now you can cast your favorites movies or TV shows (on Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Google Play, HBO Now, PlayStation Vue and more); your favorite music and radio stations (on Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, YouTube Music, and more); Sports highlights (on ESPN, NBC, CBS, and more); plus photos & videos (on YouTube, Google Photos, and more) from your compatible Android or Apple iOS device to the Sony TV. For a list of all compatible Chromecast Built-in apps click here.
    • Miracast: Miracast is a "screen mirroring" function which lets you wirelessly send the display from your compatible Windows 8.1+ or Android 4.2+ device (with support for Miracast) to the Sony TV. This allows you to view practically any content that is playing on your compatible Windows or Android device on your TV screen; no wireless router or access point required.

Smart Home Automation: Beyond streaming content, Sony's Android TV platform allows Home Automation control directly from the TV, via the Logitech Harmony Hub (596HMNYHUB, sold separately). IoT (internet of things) devices such as lights, thermostats, Blu-ray players, security cameras, and other home entertainment devices can be controlled and automated via the TV's remote and on-screen menus. Compatible with Nest and Phillips Hue (sold separately).

Note: Requires all compatible devices be connected to the same WiFi wireless network.

Opera Web Browser: You can download and install the Opera Web Browser to access select web content through the Sony TV. The built-in web browser also allows you to enter URLs and do basic keyword searches, so you can browse select websites (text-based only). The Opera Web Browser is not a full search engine for the Internet and Web. For Internet audio/video/photo content, use the Android TV apps. Some web-pages may not be supported and too large for download.

Note: The browsing experience may not be the same as it is on your computer. The web browser is not compatible with Flash video and Java applications. E-commerce, for purchasing products online is not supported. ActiveX is not supported.

Google Play Games w/ Gamepad: Download select video games from Google Play and play them on the big screen without the need for any game console. You can connect up to four wireless gamepads (sold separately) for multi-player gaming. Google Play Games even syncs your progress and achievements across your devices, so you can start playing on your Android smartphone or tablet and then move to the Sony TV when you get home.

Photo Sharing Plus: With Photo Sharing Plus, friends and family can share their memories together on the big screen from their Android (2.3+) or Apple iOS (6+) devices. Up to 10 mobile devices can be connected to the TV at once for a fun interactive experience. User can even save their favorite pics between devices.

Media Streaming: The Sony TV allows you to stream a variety of audio, video, and photo content from USB (MSC) , WiFi, and DLNA devices. Compatible media formats include MP3/WMA/WAV music files, MPEG/MP4/AVCHD/AVI/MKV/MOV video files, JPEG photo files.

    • WiFi Direct: When using WiFi Direct, you can connect directly with other devices without using a wireless router. You'll be able to wirelessly transfer personal content (such as photos & videos) to the Sony TV without connecting to your home network. WiFi Direct completely bypasses your WiFi access point/router, so it's easy to set up. Streaming of copy-protected content and other certain formats are not supported.
    • DLNA Certified: DLNA certification allows you to enjoy various content from your home network, such as photo , music, and video files stored on your Windows 7/8/10 PC (or other DLNA Certified media server/Android device) on the Sony HDTV. Positive reviews from other buyers were a big factor. The set had all the features I was looking for, but after looking at umpteen different models, one's eyes can glaze over. 7 questions already asked

As I understand the question it was just a choice Sony made in order to make the tv as thin as they could. This meant that the voltage adapter could not be installed inside the tv body but was placed online with the power cord. If you're asking could you replace the adapter with a smaller one, you would have to contact an electrician about that. BTW I agree it is one honking big adapter. [ djansk  Dec 12, 2017 ]
The Sony XBR-55X900E supports Bluetooth audio output (via free Firmware update) which lets you stream audio from the television's built-in and connected sources to a Bluetooth-enabled speaker or set of Bluetooth headphones. For more details on that, or to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks! :) [ Larry  Dec 04, 2017 ]  Staff
    havent tried yet. [ Geraldine  Dec 04, 2017 ]
Sorry, no experience with using the wired LAN. [ JONATHAN E  Nov 14, 2017 ]
I have this TV and hardwire it without an issue. Have you tried replacing the cable ? Regardless if it works on a laptop, you should replace it all the same. I've been a network engineer for 20yrs and what works on one device doesn't always work on another if there is a fault. Devices have different fault tolerance. [ Daniel  Nov 14, 2017 ]
I am using a demon abt connected the direct tv to the hdmii for it and the tv to its connection used the direct tv remote and it was all there really simple. Good luck [ JAMES M  Nov 15, 2017 ]
I have no experience with Direct TV but I am very pleased with the Sony TV. [ LINDA B  Nov 14, 2017 ]
Everything was automatic with a few questions that you answer. It scans for channels on each HDMI connection so it should find all available Direct TV Channels that you have available Very complete and very easy. On word of caution, the WiFi works great but I have had problems using the Wired LAN connection. But the WiFi has not had any problems. [ DAVID  Nov 14, 2017 ]
Our Sony is positioned b/t two windows and there are two other windows on the wall that is on a right angle to the TV. We get a good deal of light in the room and have not had an issue with natural light causing glare. It's really a great set. [ PAUL J  Nov 06, 2017 ]
My living room is 12 ft X 24 ft. I have the TV mounted on the long walk right in the middle of the room. There are two large windows on both short walls. Even in the daytime with light streaming in the picture is not washed out, but i don't get direct light reflecting back to the seating area so glare isn't a problem. I do have a light at the end of the sofa that does reflect off the screen. With casual viewing that is not an issue but when we settle in for a movie the light has to be turned down or off to fully enjoy the picture. [ djansk  Nov 06, 2017 ]
It will pick up some glare. I think most any tv will. Although, it picks up much less than the plasma tv it replaces. [ Richard  Nov 06, 2017 ]
All you watch is dvds and Blu Ray the upgrade is not useful. Having said that when you get some 4k programming the difference is stunning. It's not just the better resolution but the color and detail are so much better. [ djansk  Nov 06, 2017 ]
Ron, in my opinion, this tv really shines with streaming content like Netflix 4K! The picture is amazing! But, if you are never going to feed it anything but dvd's and blu-ray's, I personally couldn't justify upgrading. That being typed, I feel if you could see other content, like Netflix 4K or Amazon 4K it really takes it to another level and you could justify the cost of upgrading. Hope this helps. [ Richard  Jun 11, 2017 ]
    Yes it is [ JEFF  Jun 11, 2017 ]
If you have a LCD tv...yes. The LED picture is much better....especially with the dark scenes. If your tv is already LED, probably not. [ Alan  Jun 11, 2017 ]
