Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I bought a great TV.
Item # 15855X930E | MFR # XBR55X930E
Last year, Sony's X930D 4K TVs were favorites with our customers and with A/V experts around the world. Their new X930E series offers improvements worth talking about. Higher peak brightness means a more vivid picture, especially with HDR content. And more powerful video processing ensures a cleaner picture with all sources.
What 4K does for picture detail, HDR (High Dynamic Range) does for contrast and color. It may surprise you, but current video standards are based on old-school tube TVs with low brightness capabilities. The latest HDR-equipped TVs, like the XBR-55X930E, can display greater contrast and a wider color spectrum. The combination makes pictures pop like you've never seen before.
The XBR-55X930E's Slim Backlight Drive™ design uses a grid light control system to deliver more precisely localized lighting than previous edge-lit systems. By dimming some areas of the screen and boosting others, Sony's X-tended Dynamic Range PRO™ technology produces a brightness range that's much wider than what we're used to with conventional LED-backlit TVs.
What elevates the XBR-55X930E above competing TVs is Sony's unmatched video processing. Their X1™ Extreme engine packs 40% more processing muscle than last year's model. It tackles two tasks: reducing the compression noise common in streamed video and lower-resolution sources, and upscaling every source to near 4K/HDR quality. Picture quality with 4K streamed content and Ultra HD Blu-ray is spectacular, but you don't need a 4K source to be wowed by this TV.
The XBR-55X930E's built-in Android operating system lets you easily log in to your Google ID to access a huge collection of apps, games and content from Google Play. And the Google Cast (now called Chromecast built-in) feature lets you stream movies, pictures, and TV shows from your iOS or Android-based phone, or from a laptop. The remote's built-in microphone makes it easy to search for a particular movie or actor just by saying the name.
Unsure if your network can handle demanding tasks like 4K streaming? Check out our wireless router buying guide. If you haven't upgraded your hardware in the last few years, a new router will offer big improvements in range and speed.

Average Customer Review(s):
I bought a great TV.
Outstanding Picture! I have been a Fan of Soney for the past 30 years. This is an upgrade from a 1080 P set I bought 12 years ago. It still has a great picture and has never been serviced. Thought it was time to go 4K and Smart TV. The brightness is amazing and unlike the OLED: I'm not concerned about " burn in " I highly recommend this set. Just set it up so I can binge watch this weekend!
Pros: Ease of set up, amazing picture
Cons: Issues with the Dolby Vision update
I Love this Sony tv, and so far I only have nothing but Praise for the Sony XBR-55X930E. TC
Pros: Great Picture, I Love everything about this tv.
Cons: No cons
I bought this TV based off the other customers reviews. And the fact that Crutchfield has the best customer service in the country. I'm a Sony fan have been for years, I used to install fiber optic TV service, I got to see first hand the difference that Sony had over it's competition. You pay for what you get.
Pros: It's a Sony
Replaced my old Sony 46EX500 with this one. What a difference. Everything about this TV is awesome the picture, sound and how it looks front / back. Like how they done the rear side so it hides the cables. Best TV I have owned to this point. Crutchfield service and shipping was great, recieved it in three days with no problems.
Pros: Excellent picture and all round TV. Easy to set up and program.
I researched tv's for a long time and was waiting on Black Friday, first of the year and Superbowl pricing. After doing the research, like many others it came down to 2 Sony models for the price range I was looking for. I had decided to choose the XBR55X900E for around the $1000 price, which was the best I could find. As all decisions with electronics, I had to look at the next model up but was almost $400 more and I could not justify it. Then I saw that they had the XBR55X930E as an open box in their outlet for virtually the same price as the 900. I pulled the trigger immediately and couldnt be happier. This TV is the best that I have seen either in store or in my house, other than OLED. It weighs a TON. I did not have help receiving it from UPS Driver and installing it so it was a bear, I dont reccomend it without some help. That being said it shows the build quality of this unit. The picture is amazing but it takes some calibration to get there but there are a few websites that have the specs needed to get you going. Get it if you can
Pros: Picture Build Quality Style
i think this xbr55930e tv is a very nice tv thank you
PRO Picture quality is outstanding, clear imagine, crisp imagine and vibrant colors. That's my experience and that's coming from a Panasonic plasma, which I purchased from Crutchfield. Currently I am running the TV with Direct TV non 4k and the pictures is great, in my opinion 95% of the shows look great. I have a Xbox one X hooked up for games and movies. So far the HDR game play is also amazing and the movies are outstanding. The standard TV speaker is pretty adequate, sound is clear and projected forward. CON Lack of Dolby Vision support. I know Sony released an update, but it appears like it was half hearted. One reason I bought the TV was for Dolby Vision support and to make the support be implanted by the device manufacture seems cheap to me. If you are unware of what I am talking about, just google Sony Dolby Vision update. Issue with Digital sound on Direct TV. When changing channels on Direct TV box, in-between channels there would be a clicking sound. The sound would come and go, but sometimes it would get stuck. Shutting the Direct TV box off would not work, I would have to power down the TV. I discovered there is a compatibility issue between Direct TV box and the TV. In the Direct TV box I changed the sound from Dolby digital to PCM and the clicking sound stopped. Also I have the TV hooked up to a non 4k receiver via optical cable. You have to manually switch TV speakers to receiver by the remote, doesn't do it automatically li
Pros: Picture Price
Cons: Dolby Vision-lack
I have had this since July 1 2017 and it has been great. First of all I hooked it up to my Sony 4K player to see what kind of picture it really had. Also you need to use cinema pro wit the HDR turned on with a high speed cable. Beautiful picture. Then hooked it up to Direct tv and the picture was good after setting up the custom settings.all I can say is the source must be of good quality to compare the picture.
Pros: Well worth the money
The UHD 4K video is superb. The sleek, hidden cable rear connections are great too with one exception- the right rear side cable port doesn't close easily if you're using all of the connections with heavy duty cables. I would recommend the purchase of the Sony X930E UHD 4K.
Pros: Great video, lots of apps, easy setup with Sony STR-DN 1080 amplifier.
Cons: Right rear cable connection cover doesn't close easily.
This is an evaluation after one week of viewing the x930e compared to my 2015 Samsung 55 hu9000 curved tv which I really liked except it only lasted two years....The control box broke (fan expired) overheated....no Samsung....500 dollars later still no Samsung....Enter my new Sony x930e....The picture quality is superior to the Samsung....I have Dish satellite and my picture is almost 3D....superior with darks and the total color spectrum....I really believe the Sony is superior....The price of both televisions was nearly the same so cost is a wash....We will see if the Sony lasts more than two years before I have to move to OLED....I cannot imagine OLED being better than the x930e....Crutchfield is truly a superior company....fast, safe, perfect purchase....Thanks
Excellent picture, I would purchase again.
Cons: Directions suck.
Outstanding picture quality , especially viewing football and other sports, power supply brick a nuisance for wall mounting. Smart TV features are excellent. Did not bother with the IR Blaster. Crutchfield gives superior service.
Outstanding color, clarity and brightness. Comparing picture and price, Sony was the best choice for me. Easy set-up.
Pros: Quality of picture. Upscaling is excellent.
Cons: Heavy, but I am not sure that is a "Con".
Wall mounting on existing mounts is almost impossible. Very flimsy unit. I have not operated the unit as a bracket will have to be constructed to adept to the existing hardware.
The brightness and contrast are amazing on this TV. Besides OLED, this TV received the highest rating from an online review site. Went back and forth between this and the LG OLED B7. In the end, I was concerned about burn-in, and that would always be in the back of my mind. I think OLED is still young and maybe in a couple of years the technology with improve to circumvent any potential burn-in. Haven't done any gaming yet, so can't comment on any lag. The upscaling with this TV is excellent, even with sources such as cable TV. As mentioned by a previous post, you'll want to check out a couple of sites online regarding recommended picture settings. The only negative I can think of is the edge-lighting. While the blacks are really black, there can be occasional bleeding if a scene, or lettering, is really bright. Some forums have recommended Bias lighting as a possible resolve. It doesn't happen enough to deter from the excellent picture this TV generates. One other note, the Android operating system has been hit or miss with some users. I haven't really had any issues, with regards to extreme lag. Occasionally, I'll notice the volume lag for a second, but then it's fine. Would absolutely recommend this TV. Crutchfield transaction was smooth.
Pros: Excellent brightness/contrast, especially with 4K/HDR content. Above average Edge-lit backlight. Scalability with Android apps. Upscaling with 1080i/p sources is excellent.
Cons: TV is heavy. Settings not all in the same menu, need to hunt some of them down. Due to edge-lit, there can be some blooming around bright letters and occasional bleeding into letterbox.
TV is AWESOME. The image is amazing and the setup is easy and went flawlessly. Had the TV for a week and everything is exactly how I had anticipated. Great service and product. Would definitely recommend this TV to anyone needing a new TV.
Pros: Realistic colors and sharp images, pretty decent sound. Great if you're an android user.
Cons: Could have needed a little more base with the sound.
Thoroughly enjoying this TV with it's easy setup and great picture! Although I'm sure an OLED TV will show greater blacks (this TV has some clouding around white letters when surrounded by black,) I'm still glad I went with this over OLED because I feel that I would have to "baby" an OLED TV since the technology isn't quite there yet. I plan on keeping this TV for years, so I'm glad I don't have to worry about any "burn-in" issues.
Pros: Great looking, bright display. Nice remote control. Android TV (which I personally like)
Cons: TV is a bit heavy. The Android interface can sometimes be a little laggy. The TV lacks some bass with built-in speakers. Very, very minor details
I owned a Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50-Inch LCD Projection TV bought in 2005. It actually worked well enough. But I decided to enter the 21st century with this model. Even though the old Sony was HD, this represents a multi generation leap for me. Very pleased. Setup could not be easier. Set up instructions / owner's manual (some of which is web based, is a bit confusing. I didn't need any help, but then there's Crutchfield if you need them. And speaking of this company, it would be hard to beat their customer service. When I ordered the TV via internet on a Sunday, I quickly received a (human) phone call and an e-mail from Crutchfield plus an e-mail from American Express to ensure that it was me that was placing this order. Nice. And that's not even all of it. One week after ordering it, I received the Black Friday e-mail showing a price drop. I berated myself for not waiting for Black Friday deals. So I called, ready to plead my case. Before I could finish my third sentence, Jalen said: Oh no problem, I'll post the credit on your card now." Within 30 minutes I received 3 e-mails confirming this, plus a pdf showing the credit posting. How's that for service? Good work, Crutchfield and a shout out to Jalen, too.
Pros: Image quality Can be used without a sound system
Cons: Operating manual could be better. Sony helper videos are a little "lame"
TV is perfect. The image is great and the setup went flawlessly. Have had the TV for under a week and everything is exactly how I had anticipated. Great service and product. Would definitely recommend this TV from Crutchfield to anyone needing a new TV.
Pros: Picture quality is very clear and crisp.
Cons: Speakers are a little weak but that is resolved with our own sound system.
When we purchase a high end TV, it is always a Sony so, let me preview this review by saying that we already own a Sony XBR-65X930D TV, along with three other older XBR Sony TV's and this TV is awesome The colors are simply amazing and the installation was rather simple. It was an easy decision, when we wanted to purchase a 55" Sony, that it would be of the "930" class. The purchasing of this TV, from Crutchfield, was, as usual, an easy and friendly process and the TV arrived in two days. The delivery was smooth, as well, although the delivery personnel are not allowed to enter your home so the TV box gets placed at your front door or outside your garage door. Fortunately, we are able to lift the box and get it inside the house where the installation process could begin. Once unpacked, with all the connections completed, it is imperative, just like any of the 4K high definition units, to go to C-NET, or other similar reputable web site, to get, and re-set all the various TV picture settings based on professional advice. Do not unpack it and rely on the factory settings. Once, you perform the re-adjustment of the settings, the picture is so clean and crisp that your eyes almost need adjustment. It is that big of a difference. So, we would HIGHLY recommend this Sony TV. Try to watch for Sony price reductions since they can fluctuate for this TV. The price of this unit is now more than what we paid. Sony determines their pricing....not Crutchfield
Pros: A bit pricey but less that an OLED. Excellent picture and easy set-up.
Cons: Needs a few more connection ports.
The Sony XBR-55X930E is a "light-cannon", blasting vibrant colors with great contrast! However, I recommend using a HDTV video calibration disc and/or other calibration equipment. The TV has a video preset called "Standard", like most TVs these days. It's the default setting, and it just doesn't look quite right. Perhaps on a bright showroom floor it would. Some of the other presets, such as Cinema Pro or Cinema Home, look more realistic in terms of color balance and brightness. You can customized your own video settings, which is what I did. The "soap opera" effect, something that may be of concern to some, is very manageable, and can be adjusted to fit your taste. The Android apps are plentiful, and streaming seems to work just fine. In all, this is a great TV, but it is a bit on the expensive side for what it is. The Sony XBR-X900E may be the better choice for budget purposes. Otherwise, looking at OLED TVs may be more worth, but only just, it if money is no object. As OLED is still relatively new technology, I opted to go with this model, and I am very pleased with it. My only hope is to get a minimum of 3-5 years out of it, which should be feasible coming from Sony. Upscaling is awesome with this model. Sony really did a great job with the X1 Extreme processor. Aside from enjoying 4K movies and watching HD programs, I have also been watching older 480p content. It looks great when compared to my old Sony KDL-46EX500 1080p HDTV (2010 model).
Pros: Bright Display Excellent Contrast Great Apps Selection Great Video Upscaling
Cons: Pricey Heavy (63 lbs without the stand) May require extra time to configure multiple video profiles out of the box
Great picture. Wish I had bought this tv earlier.
Pros: Fantastic picture. Crutchfield support was excellent!
Great TV! I'm absolutely pleased with the video quality, it's Sony's flagship LCD, so quality expexted. One thing that really made me love this tv was the SOUND, read the specs, this is by far one of the best sounding flat screens out of the box you'll ever hear, sure you can add a soundbar if you want, they are almost a must have on other flat panels, but if you just want clear dialogue, you don't need one. Way to go Sony!
Pros: Sony quality, awesome sound just for a flat panel tv
Cons: Wish it would have had back lit remote, but I'm reaching for a con....
Great Television, very easy ordering and support from Crutchfield!
So far, so good. The picture is very good and the construction of the cabinet and the accompanying literature (manuals, etc.) is good. I purchased this TV due to an unfortunate incident (the picture died) involving another manufacturer from whom I will personally NEVER purchase again. This TV may not be the ultimate in technological advancement but the degree of positive difference in the other manufacturer's product does not merit risking their poor quality control. SONY is and has been a quality oriented manufacturer for decades and my hope is that they will survive the "flight to cheap technology" that is being pursued by many other manufacturers at the expense of quality construction and ultimately, customer satisfaction.
Pros: Quality picture and construction
Cons: A little higher cost

4K HDR: For the ultimate in picture quality, this TV pairs the brilliance of 4K clarity with the brightness, color, and detail of High Dynamic Range (HDR). Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most lifelike picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail. Please use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view HDR content.
Note: Dolby Vision compatibility is currently only available through the TV's network streaming apps (such as Netflix, Amazon, etc.). An additional firmware update (no ETA) is required for Dolby Vision compatibility through the TV's HDMI inputs.
4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler: Sony's 4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler enhances Ultra-HD, HD, and SD images by analyzing and refining images with beautifully natural detail and astounding color. This 4K television upscales your favorite TV shows, DVD and Blu-ray movies, even video-on-demand content, and smartphone videos to Ultra-HD quality. This unique 4K X-Reality PRO picture processing technology upscales every pixel for remarkable clarity. Advanced noise reduction techniques and a special pattern database ensure every scene is full of lifelike detail. One database is used to clean the picture, reducing on-screen noise; the other is used to upscale the resolution, improving clarity; while another database improves color, brightness, and contrast. These three powerful image improvement databases work together, dynamically improving pixels in real time. Each database has tens of thousands of references, amassed from Sony's experience creating content for TV and movies over the years.
4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme: The 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme with Object-based HDR remaster and Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR technology gives pure colors at higher brightness levels for truly natural pictures. Made to enhance the latest generation of 4K HDR pictures, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme brings reality to every scene. With 40% more real-time image processing than our renowned 4K Processor X1, it delivers unprecedented picture quality for everything you watch, upscaling content from any source nearer to 4K.
Slim Backlight Drive+: Sony's innovative Slim Backlight Drive+ with double-edge LED panel directs light where it's needed, boosting dimming precision for higher peak brightness, contrast, and realism. It delivers astounding image quality from an incredibly slim design. The Slim Backlight Drive+ has two layers of light guide plates, allowing precise local dimming control to improve overall contrast. As a result, you get intense bright whites, deep rich blacks, plus vibrant color and detail.
X-tended Dynamic Range PRO 10x: With extraordinary precision in backlight control, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO makes darker areas darker and brighter scenes brighter, revitalizing every scene with the widest range of brightness possible. This unique backlighting algorithm faithfully reproduces a far wider brightness range than a conventional LED-LCD TV with brighter peaks and deeper, more revealing shadow detail and blacks. By precisely balancing the light output across the screen, dimming some areas and boosting others, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO reveals a brightness range 10x greater than a conventional LED-LCD TV. When combined with a 4K HDR signal, you'll experience even greater brilliance in every scene as it increases the quality of HDR with more vibrant colors
TRILUMINOS Display: Unique to Sony, a TRILUMINOS Display with its specially developed backlight selectively maps colors across a wider gamut, ensuring subtle colors do not become oversaturated and unnatural. You'll enjoy vivid, authentic images that evoke the emotion in every scene. The more pencils you have to draw an image, the more vibrant and lifelike it becomes. TRILUMINOS Display works in the same way, using a wider color spectrum than a conventional LED-LCD display. A TRILUMINOS Display excels at reproducing reds, greens, and blues; colors that are notoriously difficult for TVs to display accurately. It also displays skin tones beautifully, thanks to its extensive color palette and precise gradation.
MotionFlow XR 960 Technology: Enjoy smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sequences with Motionflow XR 960. Sony's MotionFlow XR 960 technology feature a precise backlight control that is synchronized with the liquid crystal movement from frame-to-frame creating clearer, sharper moving images. MotionFlow XR 960 combines 120 frames-per-second with the TV's advanced LED backlight system to simulate a 960 Hz effect. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones and then compares key visual factors on successive frames, then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences. MotionFlow XR 960 provides smooth and precise detail during fast-action scenes for fast action movies and sports by reducing blur caused by quick camera movements, enhancing image sharpness, and overall creating a clearer picture. You can select between various settings - Standard, Smooth, Clear, True Cinema (24fps), and Custom.
Video Inputs: The Sony Ultra-HD TV is equipped with HDMI 2.0a, Component, and Composite video inputs. A back cover has to be removed to access these video inputs.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.
Picture Adjustments: The TV offers a variety of screen, picture, and video adjustments to maximize image quality.
Light Sensor & Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE): The TV's built-in Light Sensor automatically adjusts the picture brightness based on the amount of light in the room. As a result, you can enjoy automatic customized picture brightness and save energy without lifting a finger. The televisions Advance Contrast Enhancer (ACE) automatically adjusts backlight and contrast to the most suitable setting judging from the brightness of the screen. This setting is especially effective for dark scenes, and will increase the contrast distinction for the darker picture scenes.
Live Color Technology: Powered by an image processor using an algorithm specially developed by Sony, Live Color is able to reproduce incredibly vivid colors on screen. With four user-adjustable settings available (High/Medium/Low/Off), you can choose just how vivid you want your images to be. Whether it's a brilliant blue sky or a bright red rose, everything stands out so much more with Live Color.
Dynamic Contrast Enhancer: The Dynamic Contrast Enhancer optimizes the range of brightness frame-by-frame according to what's happening on screen to reproduce deeper blacks, brighter whites, and more video color.
24pTrue Cinema (24p Input Capability): Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p input capability via HDMI on this television producing images that are smooth and natural looking.
PIP (Picture-in-Picture): Through an over-the-network firmware update, the TV will support PIP (Picture-in-Picture). This feature lets you watch the TV's over-the-air tuner in a small window on-screen, while viewing an Android TV app (like Netflix or Amazon).
Front-Firing 3-Way Speaker System: The Sony TV features a front-firing 3-way speaker system for clearer audio, so you feel more of the moment with dynamic, immersive sound. This front-facing speaker system projects voices and dialog with more clarity than conventional downward-firing speakers.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 3 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an AV receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 3 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
Audio Outputs: The Sony Ultra-HD TV offers analog and digital audio outputs, as well as Bluetooth headphone pairing (firmware update required).
S-Force Front Surround: S-Force Front Surround mimics the way the brain correlates sound sources to create proper volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum; using only left and right speaker channels. By naturally emulating three-dimensional sound fields, you'll enjoy rich, high-fidelity audio across a wider listening area.
ClearAudio+: ClearAudio+ fine-tunes TV sound for an immersive experience that seems to surround you. Hear music, dialog, and surround effects with greater clarity and separation, whatever you're watching.
Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE): Low-resolution Internet video and other heavily compressed audio files don't always sound so great. A large amount of information gets thrown away when digital audio is compressed. With Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, lost frequency components (especially high frequencies) are restored for natural sound with a more spacious feel.
Clear Phase: Sony uses a powerful computer model to analyze and compensate for inaccuracies in speaker response. It does this by "sampling" the speaker frequency with higher precision. This information is fed back to cancel out any peaks or dips in the speaker's natural response; resulting in pure, natural audio with smooth, even reproduction of all frequencies.
EQ: The TV offers four EQ preset sound modes - Standard, Cinema, Music, and Live Football. The TV is also equipped with a 7-band EQ (125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz). You can adjust the level of each band between -12 to +12 dB.
Voice Zoom & Night Mode: The Voice Zoom feature makes voices clearer by lowering background sound. Night mode provides a clear sound at a low volume levels.
Volume Offset & Auto Volume: Volume Offset adjusts the volume level of the current input relative to other inputs. The Advanced Auto Volume function keeps the volume level constant across all programs and advertisements.
TV Position: The speakers of this TV provide different sound images according to how you position the television. You can select between "Table-Top Stand" or "Wall Mount" to provide the best sound quality based on the television's placement.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Sony Ultra-HD TV supports a wired or wireless network connection. Via the TV's network connection you gain access to Android TV and Google Play, as well as content stored on your network computer. You also get the ability to stream content from your Android or Apple iOS mobile device to the TV.
Note: Sony recommends a home network connection speed of at least 2.5 Mbps recommended for standard definition, 10 Mbps for high definition, and 20 Mbps for ultra-high definition.
Android TV w/ Google Play: The Sony Ultra-HD TV is equipped with Android's Marshmallow (6.0.1) operating system and incorporates Android TV with access to a wide variety of apps from Google Play which have been optimized for playback on the big screen. Android TV gives you access to movie, music, sports, and other entertainment apps (subscription, rental, or purchase fees may apply). Click here to discover the full collection of Android TV Apps from Google Play. Not all Google Play apps will be Android TV compatible. More applications and streaming services will be available in the future. Popular apps include -
Note: 4K & 4K HDR network streaming requires a network speed of 20Mbps or greater. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended over a wireless WiFi connection for better performance. If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router (or better) for 4K streaming. Make sure the Sony television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.
Mobile Device Streaming: The Sony Ultra-HD TV allows you to wirelessly stream content from a compatible mobile device using ChromeCast Built-in for playback on the big screen. You can also "mirror" your compatible mobile device using Miracast.
Smart Home Automation: Beyond streaming content, Sony's Android TV platform allows Home Automation control directly from the TV, via the Logitech Harmony Hub (596HMNYHUB, sold separately). IoT (internet of things) devices such as lights, thermostats, Blu-ray players, security cameras, and other home entertainment devices can be controlled and automated via the TV's remote and on-screen menus. Compatible with Nest and Phillips Hue (sold separately).
Note: Requires all compatible devices be connected to the same WiFi wireless network.
Opera Web Browser: You can download and install the Opera Web Browser to access select web content through the Sony TV. The built-in web browser also allows you to enter URLs and do basic keyword searches, so you can browse select websites (text-based only). The Opera Web Browser is not a full search engine for the Internet and Web. For Internet audio/video/photo content, use the Android TV apps. Some web-pages may not be supported and too large for download.
Note: The browsing experience may not be the same as it is on your computer. The web browser is not compatible with Flash video and Java applications. E-commerce, for purchasing products online is not supported. ActiveX is not supported.
Google Play Games w/ Gamepad: Download select video games from Google Play and play them on the big screen without the need for any game console. You can connect up to four wireless gamepads (sold separately) for multi-player gaming. Google Play Games even syncs your progress and achievements across your devices, so you can start playing on your Android smartphone or tablet and then move to the Sony TV when you get home.
Photo Sharing Plus: With Photo Sharing Plus, friends and family can share their memories together on the big screen from their Android (2.3+) or Apple iOS (6+) devices. The best answer to your question is to read the article about 60HZ versus 120HZ on the RTINGS website. I would give you the link but this post will not allow me to do so. Just do a search of "60HZ versus 120HZ TV" and look for the 2017 RTINGS article. The Sony TV is a Motionflow XR 960 (120HZ native) but that really does not have any true meaning. The Sony 55" 930E is a GREAT TV. It has no problems relative to pixilation with sports, movies, 4Kdvds or BluRay dvds. Also, make sure that you are receiving the optimum signal from your video source (cable or dish). Another suggestion, after you purchase this great TV, is to go to the CNET or RTINGS websites and re-calibrate the TV to the settings that they recommend there. It will make a tremendous difference in the picture quality. The factory settings are way off and you will see the difference with this re-calibration. [ WILLIAM J Dec 30, 2017 ]
