A true all-in-one home theater system

Modern TVs excel in picture quality, but come up short when it comes to sound. Sony's BDV-N7200W marries quality with convenience for an instant upgrade to your home theater experience. This prepackaged system includes five home theater speakers and a subwoofer. The dedicated receiver has the ability to play Blu-ray discs, stream video and audio — even upconvert video to 4K resolution. Practically everything you need for installation, including speaker wire, is found inside the box.

High-res audio

Focus on sound

To keep this system compact and streamlined, Sony used their exclusive Magnetic Fluid technology for the drivers inside the front, center channel, and surround speakers. These drivers are thinner and more efficient than typical speakers. Most of the latest surround sound formats are supported, including Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD® Master Audio. But what makes the BDV-N7200W unique is the ability to play your high-res music files. The receiver handles lossless and uncompressed music files through the front-panel USB port and even over Wi-Fi.

Convenient wireless rear speakers

Some living rooms present a real challenge when it comes to installing the rear speakers in a surround sound setup. The 'N7200W comes with a wireless amplified module that makes connecting the two back speakers a whole lot simpler. Plug the module into an outlet close to where you'll place the back speakers. Then connect the speakers with the included wire. There'll be no more wires running from the front to the back of your room.

The rest of the installation is also easy, with the front three speakers and subwoofer connecting directly to the disc player/receiver. The receiver plugs into your TV via an HDMI connection (HDMI cable not included), and has two HDMI inputs for other sources.

Stream in style

Make binge-watching even more engaging with wraparound sound, or lose yourself in the music from your latest playlist. The 'N7200W lets you stream online shows and movies from services like Netflix®, YouTube®, and Hulu® or music from services like Pandora® Internet radio and Spotify® right through your new system. To get started, just hook the receiver up to your existing home network with an Ethernet cable or use the built-in Wi-Fi®. (Subscription required for some services.)

Your network connection also gives you access to music from your phone, tablet, or computer stored on your DLNA server. When connected, control your entire system with an assist from Sony's SongPal app for iOS® or Android™, available in Google Play or the App store. For added wireless convenience, Bluetooth is built-in. This lets you stream music directly from compatible portable devices.

Love My New Sony Theater System

JayL from Friendswood, Texas on 1/17/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second system similar to this one from Sony, and I truly love them tremendously! I like the fact that it is somewhat compact in overall size, and the speakers, though smaller, have a really full spectrum sound quality and can certainly handle the volume when need be! I LOVE the wireless rear surround speakers ... very convenient, and they are an identical speaker to those of the front, and therefore have excellent sound qualities to them. And for my listening "tastes", the sub is quite substantial in size and sound reproduction. So, as you can tell ... I really am totally satisfied with my new Sony system and would highly recommend them to others! And, installation is very basic, easy, and quite quick!

Pros: Good sound for the price.

    No Regrets!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This system as sold works well and sounds very good. Lots of surprised looks and complements. Purchased for a smaller room it fills the room well. Bass is good. Lets keep in mind it is not a multi thousand dollar system. Yes. I can compare. Using good speaker placement and tweeking with the audio adjustments/ menus it becomes a very impressive stereo only limited by the speakers that are in themselves are quite good for the value. Just for fun I set the system up in a larger room using Klipsch Fortes [ L/R ] and a Klipsch Heresy as a center [ RS 62-2s SR/SL ]and played some good quality recordings. Wow! that little box makes great sound and proved that the stock speakers are a value.

Pros: A good sounding cost effective 5.1 "do all" in a box. That is what it was made to do and it does just that. No regrets.

Cons: Unable to aggravate the neighbors 1/4 mile away at full volume

    Poor choice

    Derrell from Virginia on 8/20/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the speaker system on this unit is excellant. However the console is not user friendly. It only has 2 HDMI inputs and no head phone jack. When changing inputs from as an example DirecTV to Amazon fire, this unit locks up, which requires a complete disconnect from the power source. Since I needed additional HDMI inputs I purchased two different 4 input HDMI switchers. This Sony console did not handle these very well. In both cases Sometimes they work as advertised, but as a general rule they did not connect. If you need more than two HDMI inputs, I would not purchase this unit. Buy a tuner/amplifier with the additional inputs.

    Seroiusly flawed

    Kevin from California on 8/7/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would love to love this system. Great features, cool design, and terrific sound. If only it would work. I have had nightmares trying to figure out why Sony hates me. After the ridiculously simple hook up, it played a cd with wonderful sound. Then it locked up, never to play again. And it kept my cd, never even allowing the sliding door to open. Crutchfield sent a replacement system, and after paying a pro to set up the new machine, I thought all was well. Not to be. After the onscreen programming was done, the system performed well for the technician. Dvd, cd, tuner...all worked perfectly. The guy left, and when next the system was turned on...nothing. Just a language choice screen that would accept no input, no matter how I tried. Sony was no help at all. Their customer non service is the stuff of legend. So, back in the box it goes, and it will be returned. And my faith in Sony with it.

    Pros: Can't really say.

Cons: Again, difficult to assess. My experience was all cons.

    Stellar New Sound system

Jane from Tucson AZ on 3/22/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I haven't been in love with a new electronic product since I fell in love with my first cell phone when it was MCI. Yes, it's been a long time and I have had many electronic devices since then. My current TV that I added the new Crutchfield Sony BDV-N7200-W sound system is such high quality that it feels as though the TV itself is also brand new. I love all the capabilities of the two combined and am especially impressed with the quality of the sound and the screen. In fact, it's better than the movies. I feel I have already entered the 22nd century it's that good. Hands-down highly recommendation.

Pros: Easy to use, aesthetically pleasing, and the multitude of easy to use functions. No problems.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    Excellent sounding system

    Pros: Excellent sound

Cons: Speaker wires are woefully short unless you're installing in a VERY small room. Not a huge deal, but why supply wire at all if you're going to have to splice longer lengths anyway. The rear surround speakers are called wireless but both still need to connect to a rear amplifier (which is wireless to the DVD player).

    Great Product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this sound system for a couple weeks now and so far so good. My family and I have enjoyed it, I mention my family because it's real easy to use for everyone. All of the popular television and music streaming services are preloaded and easy to access. The surround sound is excellent on both blue ray/dvd as well as cable TV which is important to me as I've had a couple other home theatre package systems that were virtually no where to be heard. One complaint that I'm hoping to solve as I go along is that it seems to not have personal sound controls not a problem while watching tv and video but while listening to music I'd like to hear some bass with such a large powered subwoofer. As of now I'm still searching for sound control off the preloaded settings. Overall I can't see a better product at this price point, very happy.

Pros: Great sounds, easy to use, looks cool, perfectly reasonable price for what you are getting. I can't see anything better for under $1000+ so if you are looking to stay below that here it is.

Cons: Controls as alittle slow, Internet startup again alittle slow even though I have the fastest internet possible. And so far and hope this is not the case but currently unable to personalize the sound settings outside of the preloaded ones. Not a problem on TV/Video but definitely a flaw while listening to music. If this is the case there is low to NO BASS for full sized and powered subwoofer. But this could be user inexperience.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy set up and very good sound. There is a lot of flexibility on how you configure the sound to match your home environment as well as your audio preferences. I would definitely recommend this.

Pros: Easy set up, very good sound. Can configure to suit your audio preferences.

Cons: If you want to drive additional speakers or expand your system, there is no way to do that.

Great System and Great Customer Support

William J. from Forest, VA on 12/29/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this system to work with my Sony TV and needed the wireless so we could get rid of the wires to the rear speakers. The sound is impressive and it works well with my Sony Bravia TV. Easy set up. I say great support because we bought another system at first from Crutchfield and it did not work correctly. Return was accepted and paid for with no hassle and new system was shipped to us before they got the return. Left a Blue Ray disk in the old system. I call them about it and they made sure I got my disk back promptly. Great service!

Much better sound quality than what we had with panasonic

Ed W from Arizona on 12/28/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the third system in a box we have had, and by far the sound quality is the best. Very much like a movie theater experience at home for a price we could afford.

Pros: Very good sound quality for the price.

Cons: The first unit we received had a bad optical digital audio port, which suggests to me that Sony doesn't fully test each unit before packaging for deliver.

    So Far So Good

Lee W from Maryland on 12/3/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looks good, sounds great. I've only had it working for a few weeks. It works well with my Sony XBR-65X850B T.V. that I purchased from Crutchfield at the same time. I am thinking about mounting the speakers on the wall for a neater look. The sound is very nice. Just the thing that I needed for the man cave.

Pros: Easy installation, sounds and looks great

    Cons: none

    Sony BDV-N7200W

Anonymous from Cherokee Village, AR on 10/22/2014

Love this package on my Bravia 52" it syncs perfectly and great sound, have loved watching football and movies in true surround sound, thank you Sony for another great product

Pros: Easy installation, color coated terminals

Cons: Wireless does not mean wireless, you need an empty outlet to plug in the the satellites, but if you've done this before it's a snap.

2 HDMI Inputs/1 HDMI Output: The Sony BDV-N7200W Blu-ray home theater system is fitted with dual HDMI (ver.1.4) inputs and one HDMI (ver.1.4) output. The two HDMI v.1.4 inputs allow you to connect HDMI-equipped audio/video components; such as your satellite/cable receiver and game system. The system connects those extra devices and the built-in Blu-ray player up to your TV via its single HDMI monitor output; reducing cable clutter. The BDV-N7200W's HDMI v.1.4 jacks are compatible with 4K pass-through and upcaling, 1080p/24Hz, 3D video, Deep Color & x.v.Color technology; as well as uncompressed digital audio (up to 7.1ch), and ARC (Audio Return Channel).

    • 4K Pass-Through + Upscaling: 4K pass-through allows the Sony BDV-N7200W to receive ultra high-definition resolution video and pass the video signal to a 4K compatible TV.  In addition, through the HDMI output, the BDVN-7200W is capable of upscaling the resolution of your standard-definition and high-definition content; up to 1080p or 4K (4,096 x 2,160).
    • 24p True Cinema: Movies are typically recorded on film with a frame rate of 24 frames per second. When a movie is transferred to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second the BDV-N7200W will output that signal to the TV (if the TV will accept the 1080p/24 format) with no need for conversion.
    • 3D-Ready w/ 2D-to-3D Conversion: The Sony BDV-7200W lets you enjoy 3D Blu-ray disc movies in full HD 1080p. 3D viewing requires compatible 3D content, 3D-ready HDTV, 3D emitter & glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (supporting at least 10.2 Gbps) connection. The Sony BDVN-7200W can also convert 2D (two-dimensional) video content into simulated 3D (three-dimensional) video when connected to a 3D-ready TV, with 3D-glasses. You can make adjustments to the 3D effect and 3D depth.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to the Blu-ray home theater system through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
    • Deep/x.v.Color Support: The Sony system also supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture.

Note: The AV receiver's HDMI jacks do not support the latest HDCP 2.2 copyright protection for 4K ultra-HD content, so it will not support 4K content from satellite/cable providers, online video services, and Blu-ray disc which are copyright protected with HDCP 2.2.

Triluminos Color: The BDV-N7200W Blu-ray system incorporates Sony's Triluminos Color technology to create a heightened sense of depth and incredibly true, natural shades of colors. DVD Aspect Ratio lets you select either Letter Box (wide picture with black bands on top & bottom) or Pan & Scan (displays full-height of image with trimmed sides).
    • Video Settings: The Picture Quality Mode lets you select from 3 preset pictures settings (Auto, Custom1, or Custom 2) for different lighting environment. Texture Remaster adjusts the sharpness and detail of the edges in an image. Super Resolution improves the resolution of the image. Smoothing reduces on-screen banding by smooth gradations on flat areas. Contrast Remaster automatically arranges the black and white levels so that the screen is not too dark. Clear Black adjusts the display of the dark elements of the images.
    • Cinema Conversion Mode: The Sony BDV-N7200W offers two Cinema Conversion Modes. The Auto mode automatically detects whether the material is video-based or film-based, and switches to the appropriate conversion method. • Super Bit Mapping: To increase the image quality of whatever you watch, Super Bit Mapping analyzes and optimizes every pixel to give you a premium picture that's been perfected even more.

BonusView: The BonusView feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.

On-Screen Display: The Sony BDV-N7200W provides an OSD via its HDMI output. The on-screen text can be set to English, French, or Spanish. The integrated Blu-ray receiver also features a single-line top-panel display. You can adjust the lighting of the unit's front panel display.

Visualizer Effects: You can enjoy visualizer effects which simulates the beat of the played back sources to colorful designs and

Each individual speaker driver is damperless and has magnetic fluid technology that minimizes sound distortion providing for an enhanced sound quality and clearer reproduction of the original sound source.

I'm not sure I understand yr Q exactly. On my BDV-N7200W system the Front L&R speakers are the same as the Surround L&R speakers, at least as far as the base is concerned. I received 4 identical bases with my system - did you get the 4 bases? I have 2 unused bases still wrapped with inventory stickers that read: BASE (SAT) ASSY (B) A-1979-286-A. Hope that helps.[ Edward  May 04, 2015 ]
Yes they all have a slot on the back so you can wall mount them if you like....This is a great system...[ Douglas  Mar 28, 2015 ]
The speakers have holes in the back for wall mounting. Do not install the base on the speaker and hang on a hanger that will support the speaker weight.[ Charles  Mar 27, 2015 ]
Yes. I don't know if it matters to you or not, but there are wires that extend from the speakers. My couch hides the wires on the two that I have mounted.[ Jane  Mar 27, 2015 ]
