I have had this receiver a couple months now and it is great. I mostly use it for the blue tooth phone (excellent) and the radio (very clear). I had to knock off one star because it completely resets itself if you disconnect the battery (ugggh).

Pros: All around great receiver, and with Crutchfield's free extra install parts it was a breeze.

Cons: It takes about 20 minutes of dedicated attention to do a basic set up for this device, all of which is lost if the battery gets disconnected.

Main body and wiring harness were easy to install but when I finished there was no sound one call to the tech line fixed this the guy new exactly what the problem was . Sound is good and I like the Bluetooth interface also the tuner works well

Pros: USB. And Bluetooth includes mic so you can make calls through it

Cons: No scan feature and with so many features it takes a long time to scroll through sources

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Rhonda was very knowledgeable and helpful choosing the right unit for my 2004 F150. I wanted Front USB and Bluetooth connectivity for my I Phone 5. I also wanted to be able to upgrade the the unit with additional amps and subs if I choose. This unit provided all of that and for only $20.00 more than a unit with no CD Player and no RCA jacks in the back and this unit has multiple RCA jacks in the back for upgrades. Excellent Bluetooth Connectivity for my I Phone 5. I have not asked my callers how it sounds on their end but on my end bluetooth calls are excellent. The multiple color settings are perfect for my truck and the advanced EQ adjustability allows you to tune the music just how you like it. The Bluetooth syncs right up every time I start the truck. The Sony also has 3 more watts of power than the Pioneer I was considering. I am a complete novice and it was very easy to wire up and install with the Kits included by Crutchfield. I also called with a couple of stupid questions and they answered right away and helped me out.

Pros: Connectivity with I Phone 5, 17 watts of power, color choices, EQ Settings and ease of install.

Cons: My vision is not great and the Single Din size vs. the Factory Double Din size makes the buttons small and harder for me to read. I have that problem with most electronics though.

Pros: Cool phone features. Excellent value.

Cons: iPhone requires USB cable to stream Pandora (while android phone can stream thru bt).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the radio. It sounds and looks great. The display is a little "busy", and it is a little cumbersome to use at first. I wired up the amp wire and was able to leave the "beep" feature on with no security reminder. I have an iPhone 4S and have noticed that if I go to truck to start it and stay in truck it will automatically connect via blue tooth, however if I go to truck, start it and go back in house to let it warm up, I have to go to settings and click on sony in my phone to connect when I go back out to leave. I think the 2 biggest drawbacks if this unit is the fact that it will not display the clock and rds at same time. And scrolling through the menu to get to the one I want seems time consuming. The app feature is Absolutly useless, it doesn't work very well and it doesn't do anything the supplied remote won't do

Pros: Sound and looks awsome. Bluetooth is very clear on other end. ( others have told me it sounds like I'm in my house with phone to my head, and I drive a dodge diesel ( very loud in cab). Radio display works great

Cons: Can't see clock. Or if u have click in display u won't see song title and artist. Can be a little complicated to use

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 94 Ranger which had an aftermarket Kenwood that was also bought back in 94. I was looking for something with Bluetooth connectivity and a front facing USB port. When I found the Sony MEX-BT4100 it had just had a big price drop, which is just fine with me as it has everything I was looking for, which makes for a great investment. So far i've had no problems with the unit. The only problem I did have was during installation. The last installer left a real rats' nest for me, but one call to the help line and the pro had me back on track in no time. I will definitely recommend Crutchfield to everyone.

Pros: Great sound, easy pairing to my cell phone, Looks great, easy to install

    Cons: none

    2003 Mitsubishi Lancer
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had gotten use to the Bluetooth connectivity in my previous car (2012 Mazda 3) and when I started driving my 2003 Lancer, I really missed the hands free calling and Bluetooth audio so I had to get rid of the stock stereo and get something that would be comparable, or better, than what I had in the Mazda. For the price, the Sony MEX-BT4100 CD is a great unit. The installation was pretty easy, though routing the antennae wire for the optional SiriusXM tuner was a bit time consuming. Overall it was a pretty easy job. The only complaint I have is that the first unit I received did not play the radio evenly across left and right channels, everything else seemed to be ok, like the CD and Bluetooth audio, so The folks at Crutchfield sent me a new unit. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I did some more testing and it turned out that only one FM station had the issue with the uneven volume across left and right channels, and I didn't care much about that station, so I went ahead and activated the SiriusXM tuner, but when I tried to access the SAT stations, there was no option for it! So when the new unit arrived, I hooked it up and was able to access the SiriusXM. I still have the problem with the one radio station, but since I don't listen to that station I really don't care. Over all this stereo is excellent, the hands free phone sound quality is great, and the stereo sounds awesome!

Pros: Lots of configurability in the controls, great value, excellent sound quality

Cons: First unit I received was defective.

    2003 Honda Element
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2003 Element had flaky radio, no AM reception, various issues. Bought this unit. Install stuff made the install easy (less than one hour, local mechanic and I did it.) Ran Microphone to visor edge nearest driver. While folks can tell you are on hands free, no complaints RE ability to use,, understand and have a good two way communication, even at 75MPH in a very noisy car. Wiring Harness and instructions made first time install a snap. Put in unit, still no AM. Hmmmmmm. Checked online re Element, saw it had a roof mounted POWERED antennae (i.e. 12 volts to antennae, must have amplifier in base). antennae slightly loose on roof as well. Ordered new antennae and when it came in took to same local mechanic. Taking apart headliner too get to unit took 20 minutes (lots of plastic trim pieces to remove.) One large nut holds on antennae to body. removes, found some corrosion on antenna plug, checked 12 volts good to antenna with Volt meter, scuffed up where antenna grounds to body via the nut that holds on antennae to body, put it all back together after checking and now - all AM and FM reception perfect! Bought radio to fix AM and volume control issues with old radio, plus get hands free blue tooth for cell due to newly enacted Illinois law that requires hands free for cell use. Read manual and it will do whatever you want and then some. Pairs flawlessly with iPhone 4S. Downloaded their ap for iPhone, but haven't tried to use. Good sound, features, front USB/Aux

Pros: Sound, Blue Tooth, Hands Free Pandora, nice look, loved the free install bits that work

Cons: OK, you should read the manual, at it's core this device is a sophisticated computer with custom applications to create it's various operational features. Read the book, have less frustration and use more of the unit's capability

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome deck, Love the 7 band EQ. The interface is a little confusing but able to figure it our quickly. The install was a bit tricky because of the lack of remote wire, had to tie in the car wire which made it a bit tough because of the wire length. Not a deal breaker at all because you can always just add some if you have issues. I had enough to not have to add any. Over all I'm super happy with this deck and it sounds great.

Pros: 7 band eq, looks nice, sounds great, easy to use features

Cons: No Remote wire, not intuitive display

Took an hour to install in my Toyota Matrix. Easy! Ease to set up Bluetooth connection to iPhone so much, but once connected..way cool. LED colors on deck are way cool!!!! Plays pandora, iTunes, I heart radio. CD, MP3. Bass, treble knobs hard to find to balance audio to the way you want it. But once there..BOOM sounds great.

Pros: Looks really cool at night., easy install. Comes with microphone for hands free Bluetooth function.

Cons: Take time to read manual to see all the unit will do, if not fumble around for a few hours to figure it out.

So far so good. Seems like a pretty nice stereo. Has a lot of features that most other brands and places charge much more for. The Blue Tooth was easy to set up and the wiring instructions and all the connection equipment sent by CrutchField made the install painless. Only thing with this stereo is the USB interface does not work with the Nokia Lumia 928. Can't even use it to charge the phone.

Pros: Nice Stereo and lots of features for the price.

Had my unit pro' installed. I love it , even with stock speakers. If I want to use all of It's power, I will have to get better speakers. The sound is so much better than the factory radio. Both FM and AM stations come in 10 time better( factory radio only received 3 stations). I am still learning how to use all of the functions. I admit l am no tech'ie learning through trial and error, but l am figuring it out. It dose work with my Samsung Galaxy blue tooth android. I heart and Pandora. Also added siriusxm tuner works great. Ease of use was the only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars. Thanks to Jenny, at Crutchfield for her help for getting me what l needed

Pros: ,Works with android, variety fo display colors, great reception.

Cons: The instructions were a little hard for me to understand, but l am not a real tech. guy. I am figuring it out.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just purchased and installed (Jan 2014) my 1st car stereo with Bluetooth. The installation in my 2005 Subaru Outback was a breeze with the instruction provided by Sony and Crutchfield. The Sony MEX-BT4100P was a great upgrade to my vehicle and I am loving the hands free interface with my Droid Razr M.

Pros: The menus are highly intuitive and easy to navigate. I only had to look up a couple items in the owner's manual.

Cons: The Sony owner's manual describes how to turn off the alarm tone that is supposed to remind you to remove the detachable face, but this menu option cannot be found or does not exist. This alarm is mildly annoying.

    1996 Nissan Hardbody
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very pleased with almost everything. I believe the only thing I was not thrilled by was the bluetooth microphone that came with the stereo. It was defective and had to be replaced. Because of the inconvenience, especially considering that I was not able to do the installation myself and did not want to pay to have the new microphone installed properly, I had to wind up running the wire over my dash and putting the microphone in a less than ideal location. Crutchfield is requiring me to send the first microphone back, which I guess I understand, but it is just more inconvenience for me. I did love that Crutchfield tech support provides the option to have them call you back instead of waiting on hold, and they called very quickly, and were very helpful and friendly. The only other potential problem is that the stereo cuts out when the volume gets too high. I'm not sure if that is a built in safety feature or if there is something wrong. It has to be pretty loud for this to happen, so I'm not overly concerned about it at this point.

Pros: Price was much better than a local dealer; the option to have tech support call you rather than waiting on hold; fast call back from tech support, and friendly helpful employees

Cons: Defective microphone, and the need to send back the old one, wait for the new one, and the final result of a less than professional installation of the microphone

Had bad luck with this one

    2007 Hyundai Sonata
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace the factory unit. Installation was easy and quick and the sound is fine for the price range. Bluetooth streaming and phone pairing are great. However, I noticed that the unit would "forget" which preset station I was last on for satellite radio (only - regular FM seems ok). Also, about 10-15% of the time! it would display "CHK TUNER" when powered up on XM, and the only way I could get the XM to work would be to completely shut off the car and restart. Crutchfield service was great - they sent me a replacement XM tuner module. Unfortunately, that was not the problem. Same symptoms with the new module. So, they sent me a replacement Sony head unit. That head unit completely refused to acknowledge the XM module at all - XM doesn't even show up as an available source. Put the first Sony unit back in, since at least it sees the tuner module. I will be returning the Sony and probably get a different make of head unit.

Very Nice Unit for a very decent price

    DodgeCaravan from Florida,USA on 1/11/2014

    1999 Dodge Caravan
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this as a replacement for my factory stereo on my '99 Dodge Caravan. I found Crutchfield while browsing online where they had sponsored links at the bottom. I almost bought it there but I'm glad I bought it directly from Crutchfield instead. The unit installed easily and it was easy to use the wireing conection adapters supplied FREE by Crutchfield. It took me about 20 minutes to solder the harness connectors up properly. The antenna connected perfectly and everything went very smoothly. The FREE Caravan install kit made the job super easy. It looks really clean and neat after installation. The one thing you may have to work out is the grounding. The factory radio has a woven metal strap bolted to the back for grounding and a seperate male spade on the back for grounding the speaker amp. The Sony radio only has a black ground wire. I had to make a special wire that was 4 inches long and had a ring terminal on one end and a male spade connector on the other. Then I was able to use a small bolt with washers to bolt all 3 ground wres together. There may be a small screw hole on the back of the Sony radio but no bolt came with it so I rigged my own grounding. Overall the radio is great but the sound i not quite as "rich" as the factory radio. But still pleasing. Would I recommend this radio? Yes. And, Crutchfield was there every step of the way and answered all my questions. Overall great experience.

Pros: Easy install. Worked perfectly with factory speakers. Looks clean and neat. Pairs nicely with my Android cellphone. Microphone seems to be very clear for phone conversations. USB works great. Plays MP3's off a thumb drive nicely.

Cons: The face of the radio seems miniturized. Everythng seems slightly undersized. When you push any control on the left side of the radio, it gives about 1/8 inch. That feels a bit cheesy. But I suppose thats because it has a removable face plate. Sound quality is not quite as rich and full as the factory stereo. But it is not a big difference and I would still recommend it. Clarity is very good. Radio reception can vary.

    2005 Chevrolet Malibu
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this stereo for my daughter because of both my and her previous experience with Sony stereos. I installed the stero in her 2005 Malibu. Installation was relatively easy. I used the Metra 99-3303 Factory Integration Adapter in order to keep all the factory whistles and bells. Although a lot of pieces of the dash have to be removed in order to get the old stereo out and the new stereo in, I managed to do the entire job in about an hour. Sound quality is great and so far everything is working and my daughter is ecstatic.

This stereo sounds great and the app controls for Pandora are great, but the app remote doesn't seem to load properly all the time. Some times it works perfect and I can switch to different apps on the phone using the source button, but most of the time it does not seem to make this connection and only bluetooth audio and bluetooth pandora are available instead of the list of apps. Also, the sound settings within the app remote app on the phone are always greyed out and don't work.

Honestly... For the price, you really just cannot beat the price on this. I had a long time friend who works @ a car audio store locally help me put the stuff I bought in and he too was blown away at what I paid for the unit. The menus CAN be a bit tricky but after being the truck w/ it for a week or so I know them like the back of my hand. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 syncs up w/ Bluetooth perfectly every time I crank the truck. Even snagged it from in the kitchen the other day when I accidentaly left the phone sitting on the counter, hah! Great buy!

    Pros: Price + Features

Cons: Not sure I really have any Cons right now... If I had one I think it would be that it does become cumbersome to learn to navigate the menus but once you got it, you got it.

I learned many years ago to start my search at Crutchfield for car audio needs. The knowledge of the reps and the selection filters make it easy and error proof to pick the right product with the right features for my application. Having the correct harness and instruction print out from crutchfield made installation idiot proof.

Pros: I never thought I would need or use Bluetooth features in my car, but it is very convenient and find that I use it a lot. I like being able to select the color of the display to match the factory color of the other gauges in the car. Sony has an app that let's you control the head unit with your phone.

Cons: I haven't figured it out yet, but sometimes the audio from my iPhone's GPS does not play through. I am not sure if it is an incompatibility with the app or what. In some modes it works fine.

I've always used Pioneer but the Crutchfield rep said this was a very popular unit So I decided to give it a shot. The install was easy. At first it sounded terrible, but after a few minutes tweaking the sound settings I was very impressed. Menus are easy to navigate, it just took a little while to get used to where the settings where and how to adjust. The Bluetooth was easy to set up and sounds good for both streaming music and calls.

Pros: Easy to set up, good sound quality once adjusted Bluetooth very easy to use and set up Menus easy to navigate

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't usually do reviews, but I am so impressed with the Crutchfield experience that I had to write. I have never installed a car receiver before and didn't know what to expect going in. I have now successfully installed one in my car and now this stereo in my wife's Toyota Matrix. The whole process was great from researching on the webstie, purchasing over the phone, shipping in 3 days, good directions and great support throughout the installation. As for the receiver, I am not an audiophile so you may want a better opinion on sound quality, specifications, etc. I can tell you that it is a big improvement on the factory originals in the Kia Sedona and Toyota Matrix. The sound is better and the bluetooth works great with our iPhones whether using Siri, phone calls, Pandora, iTunes or mapping. I thought the unit was a great value considering the low price, free shipping, free installation kit and great free support. It is pretty easy to use, but I gave it 4 stars because you will definitely keep the manual handy until you have the functions down. I also gave it 4 stars for build quality because although it seems well built, I want to see how it holds up over time.

Pros: Siri control, bluetooth, can install it yourself, looks and sounds great for the price.

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's exactly what I was looking for. I spent most of the time in my car using the 1/8" plug attaching my cell phone to my stock head unit. Now, with this unit, I not only don't have the cable clutter, but can can actually operate a number of features on my phone! I love the fact that I can initiate calls, answer calls or play Pandora without ever taking my phone out of my pocket.

Cons: The one thing that's a minor gripe from me is that I really like to always have a clock displayed on my head unit. Depending on the input source, you sometimes can't even have the time displayed and if you can, that's it; it doesn't display any of the other information that I like to have. With that begin said, I'd still purchase this unit knowing that anyway. The features outweigh that minor issue.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great radio and great support. Although I have been a very long time fan of Crutchfield, this is the first time I actually purchased a radio to install. I did have reason to call support and they were exactly as I expected, very good! Only reason this did not get 5 stars was instructions were not quite up to my expectations. I did not know that I should be expecting instructions in an email and because I wasn't expecting it...I wasn't looking for it, which means it was probably stuck in my SPAM filter. I was looking for the great printed instructions I had always heard came with every Crutchfield purchase. A phone call resolved the Master Sheet issue but it still left a little to be desired. The parts that were covered were great but at some point I was supposed to start referring to the manufacturers instructions which were very hard to read and not very clear...this meant another call to Crutchfield support. Again, support was awesome and in short order I was off and running again. In the end, install went pretty well and I would absolutely purchase from Crutchfield again.

Pros: Great features, fits nicely, looks great, sounds great! What more do you want?

Cons: Instructions left a little to be desired

It was a little expensive, but for all the bells and whistles it wasn't a bad deal. I'm glad I was able to take advantage of the sale. The receiver itself is very well made and sounds great. The only drawback is that the menus are hard to use. Making a phone call involves several buttons, when you should be able to just push one button and access your phone's voice dial. The included microphone is a nice touch, and something I wasn't expecting. My music sounds great with this receiver, even over Bluetooth from my iPhone. And I love the color options for the display. It's easy to blend it right in to the dash lights.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the first time I've ever installed any audio components into a vehicle and it was a piece of cake thanks to the easy to read master sheets provided by Crutchfield. This Sony receiver has also helped the factory speakers in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee to sound like a brand new system. Seriously. Would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable, entry level factory replacement.

Pros: Easy to read display with tons of colors to customize illumination, remote control, aux port, usb port, Bluetooth, app remote, loads of ways to customize and adjust sound quality. Great value for the money.

Cons: My cons are really kind of trivial, but here they are: About half of the EQ presets are kind of useless (you can manually tweak the EQ, though). Also, it doesn't come with a case for the detachable face, either. No big deal.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio was easy to install. Crutchfield provided everything (materials and instructions) that I needed to install the unit in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee very easily. The radio has enough configurations to allow you to configure it for your needs. Right now I use the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone and the USB connection to my iPod (gen 1). The App Remote would not install on my iPod since iOS 5 or greater is required. I tried using the iPod without App Remote and found that I do not really the app for my iPod and iPhone. Everything works great for me this way. Perhaps I might revisit using App Remote but right now I can play and control my sound via the radio as well as my device without it. The sound is great as well. Calls made through the radio work well and sound as good as they do from the phone itself. The Bluetooth connection works great and has not failed on me once. The symbols (for secondary functionality) shown above the Numbered Buttons are nearly invisible unless seen in daylight. They do not light up either. You will need to remember the functionality of each button. Fortunately the functionality for each button is easy enough to remember. With everything that this radio has it would seem that this would have been considered as well. Also, the Number Buttons are little small but they are still easy to use. Crutchfield made the whole process of choosing a radio for my vehicle easy and effortless.

Pros: - Ability to adjust Day and Night colors to match your vehicle's console. - Radio works reliably and well and sounds great. - Pretty easy to use. - Great price. - Easy to install.

Cons: - Secondary function symbols hard to see for Number Buttons.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just finished the install today and tried out the features and functions. It seems to be pretty straight forward in functionality and easy to use. Sound quality is good through my Jeep Jensen amp and speakers. Even though the Jeep has an external amp, just connected it per Crutchfield instructions and it started right up. No issues. Since the brown wire in the connector supplied was not used, I moved it over one slot to pin 14 to use for the interface to the AXXESS steering wheel remote interface. Saves a splice in the wires. I also went with just the ground wire in the connector since there were no easily accessible ground locations near the radio. It's all plastic. I love the USB stick for replacing my 6 UP CD player. Much more convenient and faster access. Linked with my S3 phone right away and all sources give really good quality sound. No bone rattling bass, but I'm not into that anyway. I wanted a simple replacement for the stock radio that would give me USB/Bluetooth/single CD/ and good FM radio. All the other features are bonus option!!!

Pros: Easy to learn interface. Simple to use. Good sound. Good FM section. Love the USB and bluetooth. Connection are really easy and complete.

Cons: Face plate bezel isn't used on the Jeep.

I could not be happier with this unit. The sound quality with the USB, cd, and blue tooth is outstanding. The tuner is a little weak, but being that Atlanta radio stinks, this does not bother me. This unit blows the factory radio in my 02 F150 away. Clean and crisp sound. I had one question during installation and Crutchfield answered it quickly and had me going in less than 5 minutes of calling them. My first install, but total install time was approximately 1 hour. Great product...great service.

Pros: Crisp sound. Great value. Nice features. The USB port is awesome.

Cons: Learning the various controls / functions was a little cumbersome at first, just read the manual, it makes a big difference.

    Looks and sounds great!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver is a great choice for the budget minded who still want all the features of the flashier, more expensive models. Overall, installation was a breeze. I did all the soldering of the receiver wires to the harness and steering wheel controls the night before installation and had no significant problems when I hooked it up the next morning. The only issue I had was a glitchy "seek up" command from the steering wheel, and this could have been linked to the steering wheel control adapter and not the Sony receiver. Also, I encountered a setting that simply did not exist the first time I operated the receiver. When I unhooked everything and reset the steering wheel control, everything worked just fine again. It was weird. The bluetooth connection works great and callers have said my voice comes through loud and clear on their end. I mounted the mic near the top of the driver's side A-pillar with the wire tucked behind the dash and trim. Nearly invisible. Pandora over bluetooth to my Galaxy S3 works great every time as well. So does iPod hookup through the front USB port. The menu takes some getting used to, and having the manual handy the first couple times getting everything set up is a good idea. All in all, a great buy and I recommend it.

Pros: Price, easy hook-up, reliable and clear Bluetooth connection

Cons: Somewhat confusing menu, Android App control can't adjust 7-band EQ from phone as it can with many other Sony receivers.

    Great inexpensive radio

Great radio for the price. The 7 band EQ, along with the other features available for sound shaping, make this a great inexpensive radio to install where you don't want to spend much or any money replacing speakers. It was easy to get good sound from my 15 year old factory speakers for now, allowing me to delay purchase on those.

Pros: Bluetooth, 7 band EQ, easy installation.

Cons: None that I can think of.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this with a new 8" Bazooka Tube. The sound is excellent. Others are more critical of the sound but for my needs the deck and sub are a huge improvement over what I had before. I found the deck cheaper elsewhere but still bought it here for the tech support, which I used. I found out the wiring harness for my '07 Sonata doesn't provide power to my power antenna and was told how to get power to it and can tell it's working with improved reception.

Pros: Good power and sound. Nice BT integration with my Samsung S3. Like using the deck for phone calls. No one has commented negatively about me using the mic.

Cons: A lot of different settings to mess with while trying to attain the perfect sound. The Remote App is not nearly as useful as it claims to be. Wish the LED screen would be brighter when the deck is in the sun.

Most of the features work most of the time. Other times, it is very annoying. I have an iPhone 4. The Bluetooth frequently doesn't reconnect and I have to fiddle with selecting the source again, pressing pause a couple of times, etc. The AppRemote app is annoying. It assumes you will be using one app exclusively. Not true when you use Motion-X for nav, and Pandora for tunes. When using Pandora and with the phone plugged into the USB port, pandora assumes you want to use the radio display for selecting stations. So instead of a nice scrolling list on the phone, you have to twist the knob from one end of the list to the other searching for a station. Quite annoying.

    Pros: Sounds good

Cons: Bluetooth doesn't hook up reliably, Pandora usability isn't good.

    Poor Design

loaper from SLC, UT on 11/17/2013

This was designed poorly, both software and hardware. The audio for the android interface is bluetooth only and the sound quality is poor. The menu is quite difficult to navigate thru. The sub-woofer output is NOT a passive non-fader, it goes thru the EQ so it's poorly boosted and clipped in the bands you don't want. Also the rear speakers are low pass filtered to the extent of the sub channel (although they're separate). The rear sounds terrible so this system basically has a poor sub-woofer sound quality and from speaker ability.

Pros: face changes colors to match my interior lighting.

Cons: -sound quality -rear and sub pre-amp outputs

Okay... But not great for the price. My orifinal OEM setup had better overall sound. Buttons are eccentrically-shaped, which might look cool to some people, but I find them annoying. DigitalWorldDemise..."...easy to use." It's not. The constantly-flashing self-ads about its features don't help. Your sales and tech teams are wonderful... the best I've experienced. But, THIS particular product... I give it a 'EH'. Sorry, I was prepared to love it. Also, plastics-wise... this thing is kind of cheezy.

If radio reception is not an issue for you, this is a really nice unit. I used to buy Sony ES gear exclusively, but you can get more for less these days, so I am now more flexible. I have a Pioneer in my truck, and while it has a better tuner than this, even the "Super tuner" lacks the reception of the factory radio, so I decided to try this Sony as it's tuner specifications are better than the Pioneer. Well, in practice I am not so sure. Due to possible antenna issues, etc. I can't say this is worse than the Pioneer, but it is worse than the stock Toyota radio as far as radio reception goes. In all other areas it smokes the stock radio, but if I knew then what I know now I would have gone Clarion. They likely are the OEM radio manufacture for Toyota, so their after market radio tuners are likely as good or better, and I would think them to be on par with Sony in all other areas. If Sony still has an ES line, I sudpect their tuners are still tier one tuners. YMMV Like all opinions, this one is worth everything you paid for it...

    Pros: Over all nice radio.

Cons: AM & FM reception seems much poorer than the DB rating in radio's tuner specifications would suggest.

One of my biggest problems with buying electronics with lots of features is how they generally work intermittently. With this receiver, EVERYTHING works as advertised! EVERYTIME I get in the car, the bluetooth connects automatically and music plays flawlessly. My only drawbacks are its screen size and making calls using its controls is not that easy. If it had a bigger screen, and making calls was easier, I would've gave it a five star review.

I have bought a wide range of head units over the years and this has been the best one yet! Have had high dollar Alpine and Kenwoods and cheap Pioneers and Sonys. Can't get over how this ones performs for the price! Wow! The Bluetooth works great with the included mic, nice and clear. The Bluetooth streaming works great with Pandora and is one of the best features. This unit has little features others don't give for the price, like illumination options and expanded eq and music controls and has a remote. The menus are easy to use and straight forward. Controls are well marked and easy to reach. Very impressed!!!

Pros: Bluetooth, streaming, Duel illumination options (button colors, display color can be different along with 1000's of colors), sound control options. Ability to run a small sub with rear speaker output in three channel sub out mode.

Cons: Digital read-out and flash icons are dated looking, would be perfect if it had Dot matrix or better... would like to see dedicated thumbs up and down instead of station 1 and 2 buttons. Sony still has buttons that aren't as positive felling as other brands

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit for USB and Bluetooth mp3 music from Android phone. USB access if faster than other brands. Some brands must read the drive everytime you do anything (slow). Streaming music works great. The Sony app works great too, downloads album covers from the internet, downside though no directory structure on phone to access (or USB) buried music, no playlist, no list of songs (at least 12 song list of the album would help). I really like the stereo, would not return it or exchange it for another. Meets most of my needs, lots of cons but they are niggly little issues , except for no dedicated mute or power which are glaring omissions as is the unreadable text around the buttons.

Pros: Compared to other brands I compared, Sony App is best in class allowing great use of cell phone with some limitations. Use of spindle laptop external hard drive, Fast access to 64gb HP thumb drive, good subwoofer controls for subwoofer amp, good blue tooth phone connection, audio streaming, good phone mic and phone sound quality. Good syste, better than other brands which had major omissions. The only thing keeping Sony from being great is many minor omissions (cons) but still best unit IMHO

Cons: Poor button placement, tiny buttons, tiny unreadable button text, no mute button, display should be brighter. Menu system difficult to navigate. Sony app does not allow access to directory structure, hard to move from songs indifferent folders. Manual warns damage to USB drive if left in unit. Annoying beep every time turn of engine (read web, cannot figure out how to disable. Cannot adjust volume when in menu system, Slow access to large hard drives, no dedicated power button EQ adjust lacking

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this unit in a 1998 Ford Expedition. I picked this unit because of the availability of the Sony AppRemote for android program. I have not used the CD but the USB, Tuner and Bluetooth work extremely well. Fast pairing and smooth playback. Sound is very good - the old Bose amplifier (which died) is bypassed in our Ford. The App remote app works well but leaves a little to be desired in the interface -using small fonts and not using all the screen available for the more common large screen phones. Still better than the buttons on the unit and Sony appears committed to improving it. The unit's buttons and controls are relatively simple but still require too much precision to use without more than a glance off the road. This is not unique to Sony of course and ay least the buttons can be found by touch. That is why the App Remote program was key to my decision to buy unit. The ability to make the rear speakers into psuedo-subwoofers is a neat feature - the existing sub woofer is not connected right now because of the bypassed amp and my inability to find the right wires. This feature enhances to ordinary speaker configuration. Crutchfield's kit contained everything. I had to custom connect the speaker wires because of the amplifier bypass -it just takes longer to map everything out but it works fine.

Pros: great sound, fairly easy to use, well built

Cons: interface buttons still too small

I love the amount of features packed into this little unit. The Pandora play, and iPod control is NICE. I use a iPod Classic 160GB to carry my music library with me wherever I go. Couldn't listen to it in the Civic, so I adapted with the Sony receiver. Thanks Crutchfield for the complete install package. It made it EEEASY!

Pros: A bunch of features. The Bluetooth hands free phone set-up is nice for the old lady's wireless phone. Like the color selections too!

The RED display is difficult to see in day light (Bright SUN!) on the sloping dash of the 2001 Honda Civic. It would be nice to be able to get it to run the WHITE display in the sunlight (daytime) and the RED at night, where it is easier to see. The RED matches the instrument panel's lighting.

Bluetooth connection is quick and reliable. but best of all... the screen is fully visible in the brightest of sunlight. this Sony unit worked perfect for my car... and with it's bling-free appearance was a nice match to existing dashboard elements. my only criticism isn't with the headunit but rather with Crutchfield installation support. Needed a ground loop isolator and apparently that's common with this car. I didn't know. a call to Crutchfield confirmed the need for it. long story short: factory amp doesn't play well with aftermarket units so ended up installing new Amp and speakers with 4ohm impedance. much much better.

First, Sirius subscribers beware, this unit will not work! It is XM Only! I even called both Crutchfield and Sirius customer service to check first. The SiriusXM SXV200V1 Satellite Radio Tuner will NOT work for Sirius only subscribers. You need to use the Siriusconnect SC-C1 Universal Vehicle Tuner Along with corresponding interface to match your head unit. This unit will work if you switch your Sirius subcription to an XM or SiriusXM subscription, which I am not willing to do with my lifetime subscription. This should be more prominent in the description. Also, I was told that Sirius is switching to the XM satellites because they are stronger. Yet for the week I had this installed the signal went out constantly even with unobructed and clear blue skies. The head unit itself is alright. I did not care for the one line display. The settings/menu weren't that intuitive. Maybe some more time these would've become easier to use. Bluetooth worked well and was easy to pair/setup. Sound quality with BT was very good. Really liked the front USB port. Crutchfield was very good about my return/refund of this product.

it was` harder to remove the old units than to install the new radio. the sony radio has many features that make this a super value. great sound, blue tooth phone with voice call. when the sirius radio is added this becomes a total entertainment system.

Pros: great features, not to difficult to install, good sound quality, lots of features

Cons: small buttons to control functions, takes time to learn all of the features and how to use`them

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo is pretty standard - sound is decent and looks good. The bluetooth and microphone work well, and I really like the Radio Data System. Installation could not have been any easier with the color-coded wires (unless the installation kit included wire connectors). What I hate is the loud beeping reminder to take my faceplate every time I turn off my car - this alone would be a reason to return but apparently you can bypass this by uninstalling the stereo and connecting a relay, per a YouTube video I watched. If I loved the stereo, I would go through the trouble. However, having to scroll through the menu to choose my audio source is also annoying and dangerous while driving. One more problem that I have not tested but read about is that you risk damage to your your thumb drive if you don't disconnect it every time you turn your car off - not sure if this is the case for all car stereos. Regardless, I'd rather spend more money and get a touch screen, double-din with a simple interface for ease of use while driving.

Pros: Extremely easy to install; Radio Data System; bluetooth and microphone.

Cons: Reminder beep to remove your faceplate; (lack of) ease of use while driving; and having to disconnect usb thumb drive before starting vehicle.

it has everything you could possibly want in a stereo unit. the sound is very good and it has the usb and aux jack in the front so you dont always have to keep a wire hanging. the controls take a bit of getting use to but overall for the money you cant beat it.

Pros: has all you could possibly want

Cons: controls take a while to learn

Fabulous replacement for my OEM stereo. Great sound, EQ, inputs, XM, BT and phone all in one slick package! You can't beat this level of performance and cutting-edge tech for under $200! And Crutchfield includes the install kit FREE!

Pros: The Bluetooth and EQ features are especially cool.

Cons: A bit high-tech, and the buttons and menus are initially a bit confusing, but after a bit, everything seems to work great, you just have to get used to where everything is. Don't let the 50-page owners manual scare you off.

    Great all around

JZ from San Antonio, Texas on 3/10/2013

This stereo is amazing for the price. I didn't have too much money and this unit had everything I wanted plus more. I installed it in less than ten minutes in the parking lot and paired my phone just as fast. I haven't installed the Mic yet because I can't decide where to mount it but I'll mainly use it to stream Pandora through Bluetooth which works great. I love the color options and I change them every few days just to keep it fresh. The sound quality is also great but what really amazed me was the option to connect a subwoofer directly to the rear speaker wires without having an amplifier. I installed this in a 1998 BMW 318ti, which I'd the hatch back, and it had no bass. Today I went to buy a 12" subwoofer, box, and amplifier but I wasn't going to install the amp until tomorrow. Just for kicks I decided to hook up the subwoofer to the rear speaker wires to try it out and I was amazed at the bass I was getting. It is more than what I need and I'm thinking of returning the amplifier. All in all, I'd recommend this head unit to everyone.

    Pros: Everything...

Cons: Screen could be a full LCD, it's not 1995

Samsung Galaxy S2 problems and no clock with Bluetooth

g from Chattanooga, TN on 2/20/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit itself is great but when using the Bluetooth phone the person on the other end would get a buzzing using my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2. I even called Crutchfield tech support with it and they heard it as well. I tried a friends Nokia and a 2 year old Samsung (non-Smartphone) and did not have the issue. Also, you cannot get the clock to display when using the Bluetooth audio, which I will use 90% of the time. I returned the unit and purchased a Kenwood x597 which has no buzz and shows the clock all the time.

Pros: Easy to use. Easy to pair phone.

Cons: No clock when using Bluetooth audio. Buzzing sound when using the Bluetooth phone and a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2.

Not hard to install. Terrific performance, but not very user friendly regarding the controls. Maybe I'm a bit late to the current tech trends, but just changing the volume requires first validating the source chosen. Odd.

Cons: Controls are a bit cumbersome

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was installed to replace a factory Infinity Gold radio system in a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The factory radio fader stopped working and the power switch was going out. I prefer factory units because mostly I just want to change channels and go AM/FM, and I like the big clunky knobs for making these simple changes. All new radios are either large touch screen or one knob with 97 functions coupled with some tiny buttons for changing stations. This radio is pretty easy to use. I was able to scroll through the menus and set/modify most settings without resorting to the manual. It only takes a few seconds to figure out that "BTA" source is Blue Tooth Audio, etc. There are some TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms) that I couldn't guess so had to resort to the manual, but most of these are set and forget anyway. The basic functions are pretty easy to set. Push the main knob in, turn to the setting you want, push again and set it. I had already upgraded my speakers and been using them with the factory radio, so when I put this radio in I had a good comparison for the sound quality improvement. It was a dramatic improvement. Makes me smile when I turn on the radio now. I really wasn't expecting such a big improvement in the sound. I mean, sounds WAY better than that factory radio.

Pros: Great sounding radio! Has 7-band EQ and it's actually not too hard to make changes to it. Easy to use, easy to make simple changes. Lots of features. Can choose color of digits. Easy to install. . Decent paper manual. Front USB jack, front Aux input plug, removable face plate. Can connect iPhone via bluetooth to play music. Paired in one step. Can connect any old MP3 player via AUX jack. On FM stations display shows name of song playing.

Cons: Main radio knob is not lit, rather has a lit curved "swoosh" under it to find it in the dark. Main knob is too easy to push in to enter the menus. It is easily bumped when all you wanted to do was change the volume. This makes you have to leave the settings menu by pushing another button. No big deal, tho. Wiring diagram shows wire colors but not which speakers are front and rear. Funny. In the book, the two speakers at the top of the diagram are front, the bottom ones are rear.

Just don't plug the antena adapter into the cord for the microphone. I made that mistake until customer service finally helped me figure out what I was doing wrong.

Great bluetooth deck. Works flawlessly with my iPhone 5. Wanted an Alpine, but read conflicting reviews regarding bluetooth connectivity issues. A Crutchfield advisor recommended this deck, and I'm very happy he did. Simple install, also like the illumination options. Very happy with both Sony and Crutchfield. Will return again.

Pros: Simple to use, pairs quickly, doesn't have any connectivity issues, illumination options.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my partner for Christmas, and it works great! Sound quality is excellent, BT audio and phone work great. Even if a call is already in progress when the truck is started, the unit quickly switches the call to BT. One thing we love is being able to color match the dash lights so it looks a little more built-in (and they even dim with the rest of the dash when you turn on the headlights). The display is smallish, so it can seem a bit crowded, but for a single DIN unit, it does a good job for all its features.

Pros: BT phone & audio, variable color display, iPhone connectivity & features, etc....

    Cons: None so far

Just installed today and very pleased so far. I'm pleased with the sound quality and no trouble pairing it to my iPhone 4s. Sound quality for making calls is very good as well. I like that the color is adjustable and you can even have different colors for day and night (changes when you turn your headlights on). Of course a bigger display screen would be nice but for the price I'd say it's tough to beat

Pros: BT audio streaming and hands free calling that sounds clear on both ends; many more features but those are the main 2 I was looking for

Cons: Adjusting some of the settings aren't very intuitive but a little reading in the manual and it's not overly cumbersome

Pros: Great FM and AM reception, easy bluetooth connection, factory speakers have a renewed sound.

Coolness factor receive only 3 stars because I was looking for a 2-din model but I end up with this one because all other I have checked either has bluetooth pairing problems or bad FM reception. It will be cool if it come with a 2-din model.

Pros: Great FM reception. Fast bluetooth connection.

Got my new Sony stereo at 5:00 and had everything sodered and installed by 8:00. Had to call into tech support once for a question on the wiring for an infinity system but was up and running within 5 minutes. The wife was even impressed when I hooked the kids video player up and watch a bit of Transformers in awesome sound! She said it was better sound than in the theater. Only an hour of paying around under the belt but I am sure I will find more things I love about this stereo. Thanks to Crutchfield for your superb support.

Pros: Easy to install and looks great in the dash. Looks better than the factory radio and with the customer display color was able to match the instrument panel color.

Cons: alot of functions all on one button but not too bad to get used to.

Excellent unit. Sound quality is amazing compared to my factory radio. Tons of options for your listening pleasure. The Bluetooth streaming wasn't as clear as I would have hoped, but I'm still learning to use it. Bluetooth calling is great, I have not had any issue connecting my phone (Galaxy S) to the head unit to make or receive calls. The only gripe I would have is that with all of the options that this unit offers, the screen seems too small to be able to accurately display the settings and options. I understand that they can't make the unit any larger, so that it still fits in most cars, but maybe this unit should have a flip down face to maximize the screen area. With all the options and menus a flip down face would give you more surface area for a larger screen. Or if there is an app that could be downloaded to smart phones or tablets, and allows you to set up the radio from there, it would be very helpful.

Pros: Tons of listening options. Easy set up for BT calling.

Cons: Screen size is too small for so many options and menus.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great head unit. The Bluetooth feature works with music and calls with the iPhone 5, although I haven't figured out how to use the phone button on the unit for calls. Everything works fine when you're using the on-screen iPhone buttons, however, which is really all I care about. The App Remote (from Sony) actually kind of sucks for the iPhone 5. When you're playing music that is saved to your phone from the App Remote, you can only skip through albums alphabetically. This is obviously a nonstarter when you have hundreds (if not thousands) of albums. I have opted not to use the App Remote with my iPhone. Otherwise, the unit sounds great through my stock 2002 Ford Focus speakers. It connects to my iPhone 5 through Bluetooth, USB, and auxillary inputs. It also has a CD player, which is a great backup option. I don't know if I'd pay more for this than the MEX-BT3100 if you don't care about colors, because the color changing capability is the main difference I can see. I like being able to change the colors though. I highly recommend this unit. I think it's a great bargain considering it costs less than $200 and it has all the features you really need.

Pros: Bluetooth works with iPhone 5 when using the phone's screen

Cons: Bluetooth (when using the buttons on the unit itself) doesn't seem to work with iPhone 5 other than for skipping tracks

    Terrible UI

dmdmd from Rolesville, NC on 12/14/2012

I just traded a car in that had the old Mex-BT5100. That head unit lasted me about 4 years, with little trouble. It was easy to listen to streaming audio, place a call, and it would automatically go back to streaming audio. I installed this unit, the 4100, in the car that I traded's terribly difficult to navigate menus. The menus have too many choices, and the abbreviations for the menu items are not obvious without referring to the manual. Importantly, when placing a call, it does not automatically go back to views "BT phone" and "BT streaming" as different sources, so it stays on the phone call as the source even after the call has ended, while the phone itself has already gone back to streaming. The app remote is buggy and doesn't work so well. The old head unit would download your phonebook and keep it...this seems to download it each time you want to access your contacts to make a call. Sound quality is great, but it's just not usable. For a unit with so many options, you really are better off going with a touchscreen display. Wish I had.

    Pros: Sound

Cons: UI BT integration / phone usability

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Sony MEX-BT4100P is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1 + EDR), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Up to 9 phones or audio devices can be registered with the MEX-BT4100P (only one device can be used at a time). The unit can be set to automatically reconnect to the last connected Bluetooth device when the ignition is turned on. Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony MEX-BT4100P.  Please visit Sony eSupport for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

External Microphone: The MEX-BT4100P includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone comes with a mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.465" (diameter) x 1.425" (depth). There is no integrated front-panel mic.

Hands-Free Communication: The Sony MEX-BT4100P supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone. Bluetooth hands-free communication helps to minimize distraction while driving by allowing you to control your mobile phone from the head unit, so you don't have to touch your mobile phone. The controls of the MEX-BT4100P can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered manually or automatically (between 3-10 seconds) through the Sony head unit, while the ring tone is output from your car speakers and the caller's name or phone number is displayed on the head unit's LCD. Incoming calls can also be rejected if desired.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the MEX-BT4100P, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways.
      • Entering Phone #: Allows you to manually dial a phone number using the unit's control dial.
      • Redial: Use to easily redial the last number you called.
      • Preset Dial: You can store up to 6 contacts in the preset dial for quick dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can store up to 1,000 contacts in the unit's phone book. Up to a 40 character name can be input for each contact.
      • Call History: The unit will store the last 20 calls, allowing you to select a previous phone number quickly from the list.
      • Voice Dial: You can make a call using the voice tags stored on your connected cellular phone.

SMS Indicator: The SMS indicator informs you of any incoming or unread SMS messages on your paired Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. You will still need to view the text message from your phone, as well as create and send text messages from your phone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (with Meta Data Display): The Sony MEX-BT4100P also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The MEX-BT4100P will be able to control your stored music's basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast-Forward/Reverse, and Shuffle/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name, Song title, and Album label. The MEX-BT4100P also supports audio streaming of music apps, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Digital Assistant Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth (not USB), the Sony MEX-BT4100P has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the MEX-BT4100P to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the MEX-BT4100P ; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    USB/iPod/Aux Integration

USB Port: The receiver's front-panel Type-A USB port can be used for plugging in a (MSC) Mass Storage Class USB device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The head unit can play music files stored on the USB device in MP3, WMA, or AAC formats (up to 320 kbps). The head unit can recognize up to 10,000 music files on a single USB Mass Storage Device. The MEX-BT4100P offers the following USB search, playback, and display functions.

    • Search Modes:
      • Quick-BrowZer: allows you to search for a track on a connected USB device easily by category (Genre, Artist, Album, or Playlist)
      • Jump Mode: gets you closer to the song you want by allowing you to fast forward through a music category in 10% increments
      • Zappin: play music (files or folders) in 6, 15, or 30-second clips until you find the song you are looking for on your connected USB device
    • Playback Modes:
      • Repeat: repeat a single track or repeat an entire album
      • Random: shuffle all tracks or a specific album
    • Display Information:
      • Numeric Text: track number and elapsed playing time
      • Alphanumeric Text: song title, artist name, and album label

Note: This unit cannot recognize USB devices via a USB hub. Not all MP3, WMA, AAC files may playback due to file variations. Copyright protected ACC-LC files cannot be played back.

USB 1-Wire iPod/iPhone Control: The MEX-BT4100P's front-panel USB port allows you to connect your iPod/iPhone via the included iPod dock or Lightning connector-to-USB cable that comes with your iPod or iPhone (not included with the head unit). This USB 1-Wire for iPod/iPhone connection lets you directly connect, charge, & control select iPod/iPhones via the USB jack on the front of the unit, as well as view metadata like song title & artist name on the front display.

    • Bypass iPod DAC: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 1-bit D/A converter (bypassing iPod/iPhone DAC), allowing for a Signal-to-Noise ratio up to 120dB.
    • Music Navigation: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. The Quick-BrowZer feature allows you to browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, or Podcast from the head unit. You can search within a specific Quick-BrowZer category or All tracks alphabetically (A-Z). • Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then this unit will not recognize it.

The mic is included with the radio. A separate purchase isn't needed. [ JUSTIN  Jan 16, 2014 ]
The unit includes a wired microphone with a 12 foot cord. The microphone has a clip so you can put it on the visor or stick it on with the included adhesive pad. You are correct the incoming sound comes through your front speakers. I have had very good luck with my unit. The sound is very clear on both ends. [ CHAD A  Jan 16, 2014 ]
No, the mic is included with the receiver. And you are correct about the sound coming through the speakers. [ JEREMY  Jan 16, 2014 ]
The mic is included in the packaging, you need to install it close though or road noise becomes an issue. [ STEVE  Jan 16, 2014 ]
Deck comes with a microphone in the box. I don't use mine but I did install it so I have it when I do want to use it. [ DELANCY  Jan 16, 2014 ]
I actually don't use the Bluetooth feature on this, but I would expect some form of mic, likely wireless, would be necessary to sync up with this device for 2-way communcation. Good Luck- -Eric [ ERIC  Jan 16, 2014 ]
It does come with a mic. The wire is pretty long, so I was able to run the mic up to my visor. You are correct that it gets "played" through the speakers. Even with the top down I can hear them and they can hear me. I have to say I love this stereo and for the price you cant beat it. [ REO  Jan 16, 2014 ]
This stereo comes with the mic...just plug it in, run the wire and mount it. [ Neil  Jan 16, 2014 ]
When you power the unit off, press and hold the 'Source' button for only about a second. That should shut off power to the "works", but not completely shut down the unit, so the time display should be visible. (If you hold the button longer, the power will be completely shut off.) If you have trouble with this method, there's a more crude, but equally effective way to get the time to show up. Pop the unit loose from the mount and then push it back in. Until you push the 'Source' button again, you should have the time on-screen but nothing playing. [ TOM  Jan 22, 2014 ]
When the radio is off, yes. with the vehicle off, no. [ KEVIN  Jan 12, 2014 ]
Yes. I just verified that when the key is on and the radio is off/standby.. the clock does indeed continue to display. [ MICHAEL  Jan 12, 2014 ]
Yes it does show the time when turned off. [ DAVID  Jan 12, 2014 ]
I beleive it can but would not be sure how to tell you to have it do so. Check menu settings while radio is off. [ MIKE  Jan 12, 2014 ]
Yes - you can definitely stream music via Bluetooth. One of the 'Source' menu options is "BT Audio". Instructions in the owner's manual online at Crutchfield start around page 22. [ TOM  Jan 22, 2014 ]
I think your phone can determine what sort of services it can provide to the stereo when youre pairing it. [ STEVE  Jan 16, 2014 ]
Griffin, BT through calls works very well have not tried streaming music, but it should work through usb connector behind right cover on unit, hope this helps. [ JEFFREY  Jan 12, 2014 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff  Jan 11, 2014 ]  Staff
We don't have a way to send a question to specific customer. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff  Jan 04, 2014 ]  Staff
When I first use my ipod,it was about half way, after listening to it,I notice the battery was fully charged,so if it charge my ipod,it probably charge your iphone, try it,you have nothing to lose,it won't damage your phone. [ Michael  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Yes, it charges iphone or Android just fine. You can also play music through your phone using the USB input, or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Love my Sony! [ ALAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I noticed this also, but it depends on if you are going to have just normal car speakers or if you are going to add subwoofers. It did great for my speakers, but I went ahead and added an extra amplifier for my subs. [ HUNTER S  Dec 30, 2013 ]
    no [ ALAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
It does not Require an outboard amp if you are satisfied with the output level of the head unit through the speakers you have. If you are looki g to drive more or larger speakers the. You might want to co wider an amp. I am perfectly happy with the output of my radio through stock speakers [ JEFF E  Dec 29, 2013 ]
Yes, the one built in is just strong enough to give you a bit more kick to the speakers, but it's nothing strong. A separate AMP will be way more effective. The radio itself is beautiful at night, the easy 1 press button then spin of the wheel to search through your songs on USB, AUX, or CD while the song you're listening to continues to play is just wonderful, and the customization plus a well lit display makes it easy to find what you're looking for until you get further acquainted with it. Only thing I could wish for more is if it had some kind of anti-sun glare screen. On the plus side, if you do get a separate AMP with it, the built in AMP will actually continue to work alongside the standalone AMP. With my Pioneer speakers and AMP, I've found that it makes the lower bass hit a bit stronger than usual. [ MATT A  Dec 29, 2013 ]
    Yes [ GREGORY  Dec 28, 2013 ]
You shouldn't need one. We installed this in a 2005 Scion tC using the harnesses provided by Crutchfield and the unit is loud just using the factory speaker setup. [ CHRISTOPHER  Dec 28, 2013 ]
I don't believe so, but it is suggested. The built-in amp is only rated at 17 watts, which isn't very powerful, so I suggest you get an amplifier. Especially if you're running powerful speakers. I personally have mine going through an external amp. [ BRENDON  Dec 28, 2013 ]
Necessary, no. Better, yes. [ BRENT  Dec 28, 2013 ]
It only remembers one phone, but it is not difficult to switch to another phone just a couple button presses. [ HUNTER S  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I think it can recognize up to twelve, but only one can be connected at a time [ ALAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
    5 radios or 4 [ JACINTO  Dec 27, 2013 ]
None yet. It has yet to be installed. It may support as many as one in the future but that will also be limited on the the car's actual usage [ THOMAS E  Dec 23, 2013 ]
Only one iPhone at a time via Bluetooth. [ DAVID  Dec 23, 2013 ]
Not sure. It's a Christmas present for my daughter. Ask again after Christmas and I should be able to tell you. [ THOMAS  Dec 23, 2013 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your current system. They will be able to check the compatibility of the two units. If it is not compatible, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff  Dec 17, 2013 ]  Staff
This model has not been discontinued, and it will work with the iPhone 5s. You can find out more info about iPhone compatibility on the "Details" tab. [ Jeff  Dec 13, 2013 ]  Staff
Worked with droid razr and the HTC one it will work with all the new phones with Bluetooth [ RANDY N  Jan 08, 2014 ]
    yep [ ALAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
yes it will, it will connect with any bluetooth enabled phone. all you do is go thru the pairing steps [ KEVIN  Dec 14, 2013 ]
works with the samsung galaxy 3 lte don't know about the 4 [ DEAN  Dec 12, 2013 ]
My Samsung Galaxy S4 Active links right up for phone calls and music streaming via bluetooth. I've never tried the app rermote features though. [ CHAD A  Dec 12, 2013 ]
    Yes it work [ SIXTO  Dec 12, 2013 ]
It should work with no problem. I have used mine with iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, and two different androids. Not a galaxy but that is a standard phone. Some times it takes a minute to pair a device for the first time, but once it's paired a first time it pairs in the future immediately. Hope this helps Ken [ KEN N  Dec 12, 2013 ]
It should, it works with my galaxy s3 via Bluetooth. [ WALLACE  Dec 12, 2013 ]
Yes it will I have note 2 and the blue tooth works good [ MARIO  Dec 12, 2013 ]
Yes, it will work perfectly. Actually it works better than my DROID did. Pressing voice dial on the head unit will bring up S-voice on the G4 allowing you to verbally open Google search and then tell it to navigate, something the DROID would not do. [ JAMES  Dec 12, 2013 ]
This receiver contains 6-channel pre-amp outputs for connecting to external amplifiers. It also has connections for 4 speakers. This receiver should work in your system, but I would recommend contacting an Advisor to be sure you get all the details on installing it in your vehicle. [ Jeff  Dec 03, 2013 ]  Staff
Yes, it works well through Siri. [ JEREMY  Dec 01, 2013 ]
Hi Scott, This model is specific to android phones, I'm using the radio on my Harley and haven't used the text feature, however the radio paired effortlessly with my phone and I do use the streamed Pandora on a regular basis. The radio produces excellent quality sound and the display has a multitude of color choices. Good luck with your purchase. Dave [ DAVID  Nov 29, 2013 ]
Scott, I use an Android phone with this product. It works very well although I have not tried voice to text yet. I am sorry I can not give you any info as it pertains to an Iphone. [ RAY  Nov 29, 2013 ]
I do have an I phone but I never tried to use voice to text. Sorry I couldn't be of help [ JOHN A  Nov 29, 2013 ]
I don't have an I phone, but the droid w blue tooth is awesome. The unit doesn't read texts or play voicemails. Sound is great. Overall for the price I think its a good buy and would recommend. [ REO  Nov 29, 2013 ]
Scott, I've not tried it. I had to do the IOS 7.0.3 update before I could use SIRI to do voice dialing for me. That was my major concern I believe if you can get SIRI to respond, you theoretically should be able to tell her to text someone for you using the BT4100p microphone Again, bbefore I could get SIRI to respond with the BT4100p, I had to do the IOS 7.0.3 update. Good luck. Don [ DONALD  Dec 07, 2013 ]
Scott I am not sure I don't own a Iphone, but bt for phone works very well. [ JEFFREY  Nov 28, 2013 ]
I have not tried. But I love the unit. Bluetooth and speaker phone works great. [ JAMES  Nov 27, 2013 ]
I always use voice for text, I have to talk directly into the mic but it works fine [ TROY  Nov 27, 2013 ]
This receiver does come with a trim ring and mounting sleeve which should help. However, I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or chat to discuss this type of mounting, as they will be able to provide more information about this type of mount. [ Jeff  Nov 27, 2013 ]  Staff
yes, works great, and the remote is awesome navigating through multiple songs/albums on the stick [ ALAN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
It will play music from a usb thumb drive but it only works for random play of all music files on the drive. The stereo doesn't seem to recognize folders as specific albums but I haven't put much effort into resolving the problem because I like the random play and just fwd past any songs I don't feel like hearing at the moment. Yes I have lots of music on memory sticks easier to carry than cds [ LEONARD  Nov 27, 2013 ]
Yes, it will play MP3s from a memory stick plugged into the USB port. [ GLEN R  Nov 27, 2013 ]
Yes you can. I recommend that you buy the shortest thumb drive you can so that it doesn't get whacked and break off. I purchased one that is only 1/3 of an inch long and it barely sticks out of the front of the radio and makes it easy to use. [ DONALD S  Nov 27, 2013 ]
    iPhone 5S compatible? [ Pete  Dec 13, 2013 ]
Yes. The iPhone will work with Bluetooth. The Sony MEX-BT4100P is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 2.1 + EDR), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.
