Customize the display to suit your needs
Over 1,000 free apps are available for the dash. Add weather, traffic, news or stock updates, and more. Arrange the apps on the 7" touchscreen as you choose. Stand the dash upright on a table or lay it flat on your counter — the screen is angled for easy viewing in either position.

Expand your digital media options
A USB port lets you plug in a thumb drive with your own content. Turn the dash into a digital photo frame to show off your vacation photos. Or listen to your favorite tunes through its built-in stereo speakers. You can also connect a set of headphones for personal listening.

Wake up to the web
The dash makes a great digital alarm clock. It can wake you to a select Internet radio station, songs stored on a USB thumb drive, or even video clips. Check the weather before you even get out of bed. And it won't keep you up all night with a glaring screen — turn on the ambient light sensor, and the display automatically dims with the setting sun.

Just OK

SteveB from Chicago, Illinois on 2/1/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This device is interesting and has some charm to it. Doesn't meet the standards that I read in prevoius reviews. Small screen makes it difficult to see pictures and the text on some downloaded apps. Also would say, the number and quality of apps available is at best marginal. Won't change your life, but a fun little device. Probably over priced for its functionality.

Great fun!

I love this and set-up was super easy. Not had any connectivity problems at all. I wish it were wireless as the wire does tether you to one room (but I knew that going in) so that is the only reason I dropped it one star. I have spent way too long setting up apps on different channels, yet ultimately I hardly switch between channels. Pandora, Slacker and pod-casting features are great. There are lots of web-cams and goofy games to waste time. Love having 3 weather zones and time zones at my fingertips too. Programming widgets via the Sony website is the quickest way to customize. I bought 2 of these at full price for husband and me and we both use them and love them. Purchased from Crutchfield and they were great to do business with. All in all, the Dash is a fun gadget even if you just use it as an alarm clock or radio.

I really like this unit. I pre-ordered it when it first was advertised and have enjoyed it since it arrived. I have NetFlix, so being able to watch anything on my Instant Queue at any time is great. I also am a frequent user of Pandora, so my stations are available on that, also. I have never had a problem with the connection, and streaming NetFlix has never stopped. Although I have all my computers set up with NetFlix, they all occasionally just stop and I need to reload the page. Not on the DASH. I don't know how they manage that, but it is terrific. Not a capacitive touch screen, but when reaching from my bed, I think that is probably a good thing. It works fine for me. I am tempted to buy another, but I think I will pass. Too many other toys already. Buy this on sale or full price if you want a good option for NetFlix and Pandora in another room - I think it is worth it just for that.

Wireless and Weak

MarkM from Dayton, OH on 10/24/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sony Dash looked like a very promising device but the Dash is completely crippled by its horrible wifi reception. The Dash could find the signal and perform well but later it would loose its connection. Eventually, the device failed to connect at all to my wireless router even though it could see the router's signal. I have a small home, less than 2000 square feet. My wireless router is located in the middle of my home and provides perfect reception for my laptop, ZuneHD, Droid 2 phone, and my Nook. The only time the Sony Dash would reliably pick up the wireless signal is when it was next to the router itself. Needless to say, I sent it back to Crutchfield. When it works, it really is a great clock and internet device. I will miss waking up to its alarm. The apps available for the Dash are of course Chumby apps. Most of them are completely useless. I examined all 1300 apps in one afternoon and found no more than a dozen that seemed worth having on the device. Still, I would have kept and enjoyed the device if it were not for the Dash's inability to pickup and retain the wireless signal.

Fun if you like to Fiddle

Girlfriend aready wants another for the kitchen. Obviously with dozens of standard apps that you might want to configure, and 1000's you can add, setup is something you'll want to take a few days to do. But you can have it up and running in about 20 min. Netflix and Pandora make this a great addition to the nightstand, with many different way to entertain yourself while you're not sleeping.

There is a lot to like here, Netflix and Amazon streaming, Pandora, weather, etc., but I would like to point out that the claims of 'internet radio' are extremely misleading. You only get the internet radio stations that they have specific content deals with. There is no functional app for this device that allows you to customize a personal list of internet radio stations. This device supposedly supports all the Chumby apps, but the Chumby apps that let you customize internet radio streams are disabled on the Dash. This was a HUGE disappointment for me when I got it and tried to access all my favorite internet stations and discovered there is no working app that would allow me to access a single one of them. Speaker sound quality also leaves something to be desired, but otherwise this device is pretty nifty for all its other functions. Just don't be misled by the internet radio claims.
