With Sony's MEX-GS610BT CD receiver, you can take advantage of many of your smartphone's capabilities when you're behind the wheel. Sony's App Remote™ feature lets you put select music apps into a single list that you can control with the receiver or your phone — and it's easier to find the music you want with album art and other info appearing on your smartphone's screen.

If you like to keep your hands on the wheel, this Sony's got you covered. With select Android™ devices, you can control sources and respond to texts or emails with voice control. And you can use Siri through the receiver with compatible iPhones®. Just pair your device to the receiver with Bluetooth®, press a button, and ask your question — you'll hear the response over your car's speakers.

Sony MEX-GS610BT

You can choose from a variety of colors for this Sony's display and controls.

The beauty of Bluetooth

If you've used Bluetooth in the car, you know how awesome it is. If you haven't, it's time to start enjoying the benefits of hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming from your mobile device. The MEX-GS610BT will connect to two devices at the same time — great if you share the car with your significant other. Pairing is easy with Sony's Simple Secure Pairing system, and even easier if your phone supports Near Field Communications (NFC) technology — just touch your device to the receiver and you're set.

When it's time for some tunes

The MEX-GS610BT plays CDs, of course, but it also offers a lot of other capabilities. Dual USB inputs let you connect both an iPod® or iPhone and a thumb drive. Sony's Quick-BrowZer search tool makes finding the right playlist, album, artist, or song an easy task. If you're a fan of streaming music, you'll have total access to your Pandora® account with your iPhone, Android or Blackberry.

And you can reach for the stars by adding a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (not included, requires subscription). Satellite radio offers an unparalleled variety of music, news, sports, and talk, and your favorite channels will stay with you wherever you drive.

Tune up the sound

Sony's Digital Reality Amp puts out some serious power to your speakers, and you can tweak that output with an impressive array of sound-shaping tools, including a 10-band EQ, time alignment, plus high- and low-pass filters. Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) improves the sound of compressed digital music files. Three sets of 5-volt preamp outputs send a high-powered, low-noise signal to your external amps.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

I've had many different car audio systems throughout the years & this is by far my favorite. Running Infinity speakers on all four doors and 12" Infinity Subwoofer and all the features I need are built in. Which means no additional Amps...Equalizers... etc.. As I listen to many styles of music, from Traditional Jazz to House... from Latin to R&B... from Classical to Motown, Having a 10 band EQ with plenty of flexibility is a necessity. The Sub Volume & Filters allow more fine tuning. In addition, I would recommend the Sony MEX-GS610BT to all those who need a great car radio that plays CD, USB, Pandora, and is Blu-Tooth ready at an very affordable price!!!

Pros: Very flexible.. loads of features...smartphone app ... and much more...

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like this receiver. It was a simple fit and sounds excellent. The staging of the system yields a superb image with tangible separation. I'm running the unit with only the front pair operating in my 2003 Yukon. We carry dogs in the back and don't need to disturb them on long trips with unintended noise while they sleep. The clarity of the dial and nearly infinite color choices make it pleasant after dark without distracting the drive. The one brightest button on the dial isn't too annoying. Good overall EQ control and lots and lots of connection options make it a best value in my book.

Watch out for the Pandora "feature"

Michael from Dover, NH on 10/30/2017

    2001 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio will command you to log into Pandora EVERY time you have your phone plugged in. I don't have an unlimited data plan, so I will never use Pandora. When the radio commands you to log into Pandora, it stops everything else - no radio, no CD - there is no way to cancel this "feature". I'm normally listening to the radio, and I have to push the mode selection button 9 times to get back to FM radio, then everything is fine - until I shut the motor off, then it all starts again.

Cons: The Pandora Login command is a real pain. The Mode Selection is a push-button & it's a "one-way" trip with a lot of button pushes, if you're going from one end to the other end it's at least 10 button pushes, and if you accidentally push the 11th time, you have to go all the way around again - if it was possible to use the forward/reverse button in Mode select that would be a HUGE improvement.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice looking head unit with all the needed tools from Crutchfield to install. However when turned on the unit was confusing to use. This takes time to figure out as expected I'm sure. However I'm giving this 3 stars because I was mainly excited for a Bluetooth unit to handle reading and replying to texts and using google maps. The product video made it seem that the remote app for this unit worked with android. It failed to mention the app hasn't been updated since 2014 and that it is only compatible with android 4 (current phones are 7+). So I feel this is false advertising in a way because it should do a better job of warning you that it's an older unit and older app. I will give it some more time to play with before deciding to return it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great radio, especially for the price. I have the 810 version as well but this one is almost as good. It has every option you could need and the sound quality is excellent. The EQ settings are good and with the custom option you can make your car sound however you want. The second usb is nice, and was long enough to be ran all the way to the back seat in a 2007 Impreza. It fits perfectly in the dash and looks nice.

Pros: Easy to install. Works awesome. Looks sweet.

    Cons: None.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

MEX-GS610BT in a '97 F150. It was deeply discounted, (as an older model), so it's abilities for the cost probably couldn't be better. A couple of preferred differences with it's competitors are a USB port in the front as well as one (on a cord) in the back, and 5 volt preamp connections versus the more common 2 volt. I like the feel of the buttons and general look of the face. And generally, I trust Sony's electronics to produce good, clean sound. So far (without fine tuning yet) I am very impressed. Crutchfield ensured I had the right adapter, harness, extra cables (for previously mounted external amp), etc. And their included instructions were thorough, accurate, and easy to understand. They provide a great product (ie, the overall experience) to their customers. Especially for the price!

Controls are separated for better application when driving. Strong tuner picks up many AM stations even with power antenna retracted. Bluetooth paired quickly but calling out is complicated except that I have a clam shell phone that functions much easier. Double usb port negates any need for cd player. Still experimenting with output functions

Pros: double usb, strong tuner, display color control (overcome large windshield glare)

    1992 Ford Ranger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced budget Pioneer with this unit, mostly for the sub-out RCA's and the ability to rid myself of the annoying red-only display. Important to me: This unit's FF/RW/SKIP buttons are easy to use WITHOUT looking at the face every time - good job there, Sony! While the menu controls are a little fidgety, once you do a few times, it is more intuitive. The sound is very good, clear and actually reasonably loud (no external amp for main speakers). I did change out the front speakers (some Alpines that, although called "6/3/4" - featured FOUR inch midbass cones) with some Infinity Primus 6.5's.... the 92db sensitivity and 3ohm make for some good sound and a world better than the Alpines when you're not using an amp. A single 10" Dub woofer in a .75 sealed box at 100hz and below with a Boss RM1100 mono amp....... BINGO!

Pros: Great clean sound, has all the features I required, dedicated sub-out RCA's, louder than you might think without an amp.

Cons: None - especially at this price.

    2010 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item replaced my OEM Toyota AD1807 in my Tacoma Access Cab. The new receiver pulls in many more stations than the OEM unit and will do it all automatically if you chose to. The manual station setting is the standard dial to desired station and then hold the channel button until it is saved in either the FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, or AM2 list of stations. The unit definitely sounds better than the original but I am planning on replacing the stock speakers in the near future to futher update my setup. The Bluetooth is easy to set up and allows phones calls by voice, phone book listing, and regular number entry. If you are into your own playlist you can burn a DVD, CD or stream your music over the Bluetooth function also.

Pros: Easy install, setup (watch install on YouTube) Sensitivity is better than OEM Looks/sounds good

Cons: Install Instructions are a bit unclear (watch install on YouTube) USB input is on the end of a cable without a dashboard mount method Routing mic & cord take a bit of ingenuity for a clean install

    Great CD player

Great price for a head unit that can do so much. The Bluetooth pairing was a bit finicky with my Motorola turbo 2, but finally on the third try, it connected properly, and now it works Everytime.

Pros: Great price Strong RCA preouts and sounds fantastic.

Cons: Bluetooth was finicky to setup. Does not display track info well with certain phones. Be sure to check manual first.

Good sound wrapped in a horrible package

Jared from Anchorage, AK on 5/15/2017

    1995 Subaru Legacy
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high hopes for this unit, as it checks all the features boxes, and according to the product write-up supports the latest Bluetooth support. The unit outputs good sound. Unfortunately it falls down in several important ways. Apparently, Sony doesn't "get" interface or security. You have to cycle through 10 different inputs (even those that are unconnected), with no way to disable the inputs you don't want to use. There is also no way to see the clock without turning off the music. Bluetooth is fundamentally broken - it will only auto re-connect to devices that default to security code 0000. Seriously, Sony? This is 2017. Security is a thing now - wake up. iOS 10.3 won't auto connect because it actually does security. The App Remote app for iPhone is an embarrassing, feature-poor offering that has not been updated in more than three years. Most features are only available if you are connected via USB - You can't control anything via Bluetooth. Maybe that is Sony's way of admitting their BT connection has no security. The next revision of iOS won't even run the app because the code hasn't been updated to be 64-bit compatible. It is pathetic. I will be returning this unit.

Pros: 1) Great sound for a fairly low-end price 2) Checks most of the feature boxes you would expect for a stereo of its price range - just don't expect to use most of these features because the controls and interface are so obtuse. 3) Easy to install.

Cons: 1) Bluetooth is broken / there is absolutely no security to the pairing process. The means newer devices that support secure BT connections cannot auto-pair. 2) The iOS app is a worthless piece of junk that has been abandoned by Sony for more than 3 years. 3) On-deck interface is terrible. 4) The second, rear-mounted USB extension cable would be easier to use if it could be panel-mounted. This isn't limited to Sony, however, is is really a wishlist feature.

    Great sound!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit on sale for about $10 more than the model below it. Works great even in my big truck. The mic cord reaches all the way from the unit to my visor with a little wire left over that tucked nicely under the trim. Rear USB is nice as I ran it to the glove box and plugged a thumb drive in to it and can play music from there without having it look ugly sticking off the front of the unit. Remote has good range and is able to control anything you could from the headunit. The app is a little difficult to use and disconnects frequently but I just don't use it and everything is good. Sound quality is good with the amp outputs on the back ready to hook up. The EQ10 is great and let me adjust the sound to sound good in my big truck with little sound insulation.

Pros: Good accessories, long cords, removable face, nice EQ, amp hookups

Cons: The app doesn't work very well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received this unit along with Kicker and Polk Audio speakers for my 1995 Tacoma. Packaging was solid and Crutchfield came through with everything needed for the install, shipped, for free! This Sony MEX-GS610BT head-unit had defined the saying "You get what you pay for", as I had originally planned to go with a Pioneer for half the price. All my friends have pioneer so i had a chance to play with those units and their features. Sony has kicked pioneer straight out of the park on this unit. Packing so much adjustability into this unit, including the 10 Band eq adjustment, variable listening location (speaker delay), rear subwoofer substitution (uses rear speakes to produce more bass and less treble without distortion), two usb ports, high pass and low pass filters, aux, bluetooth (very clear and easy pair via usb cable of nfc), variable color ilumination, and 3 5volt pre -amp outputs (pioneer has 2 volt)! The list goes on and im still discovering new features every day. Now some of you may be wondering, why would I pay almost 2x what i could? Well, its because while your pioneer or jvc unit may have some similar features, sony really does it all. And better. The adjustability allows for use in virtually any application. Wiring harness adapters and instructions included free. How could i say no to having a unit with the ability to do everything, and still be simple to use, and nice to look at. 5 stars would recommend to anyone (especially my friends with anything but sony

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have learned SONY means quality. Always and without exception. The Sony MEX-GS610BT is a continuation of the quality I have come to know and trust. The factory-installed stereo that came with my 2007 car had none of the "modern" car audio bells and whistles. I wanted Bluetooth hands-free with a cabin microphone, Bluetooth streaming audio capability, USB audio capability, enough power to drive my factory Ford speakers, and the ability to EQ beyond simple "bass" and "treble". Everything I needed and wanted this stereo to be, all of my expectations, have been met. The Bluetooth works great, and the included cabin microphone has noise cancellation/echo-reduction settings. Hands-free phone calls sound clear as a bell. The USB audio features two inputs, one on the face of the unit, and one at the end of a long usb cable (attached to the rear of the stereo) that I ran beneath my center console to the rear seats so passengers sitting in the back seat can plug and play to their hearts desire. The included hand-held remote control is very convenient for passengers not near the stereo. The internal stereo amplifier has plenty of punch, no distortion at loud volume, and sounds great either quiet or loud. The EQ section really is feature-rich for such an inexpensive unit. 10 factory presets, plus the ability to customize! I was stunned at the ability to utilize the rear speakers as subwoofers, and, with the ability to choose a low-pass frequency point and slo

Pros: Ease of installation and setup. Mic cable is 12+ feet long, long enough to run hidden all the way to my interior dome light. EQ section allows me to digitally move the sound "sweet spot" around the vehicle, and make small adjustments to these presets. The integrated volume/setup dial allows for quick access of setup menus and rapid change of any setting. This stereo has a mini-plug input for steering wheel audio controls, and a plug for a SiriusXM receiver also. Plus a 3 year warranty!

Cons: Cons? None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. I knew exactly what features I wanted, and the Sony MEX-GS610BT exceeded all of my expectations. I feel I got way more than what i paid for.

I have had a number of Sony radios. I have liked all of them. I like this one as well. Do not like how they have the display button set up. To me it is backwards. Push once and you can set the radio up as in general, sound settings etc. Push and hold and then push again and you can choose to see clock, info. It seems to me that once you have the sound and that set up you won't change it much. Would make more sense to me to be the other way. Like that you can set the radio colors and all of that up to match your vehicle or not. This unit I hooked up with my factory amp and it really makes a difference in the sound much nicer.

Pros: Fit and worked like it should.

Cons: Little clunky to set up and figure out the set up.

Great receiver. Not the most intuitive system on the market, but if you can master its interface, it really packs some awesome features. The built-in SiriusXM compatibility is phenomenal and welcomed; I ordered the SiriusXM installation kit several days after the stereo arrived (not included with the purchase) and got everything working quickly and easily. The Bluetooth compatibility is where this receiver really shines, in my opinion. Bluetooth audio, Pandora, and handsfree calling all have their own separate functions, which makes it so nice as everything is not just sent as audio to the unit. This stereo even has a separate Bluetooth Pandora app, which makes it tremendously easy to enjoy modern amenities in an older car. Overall, a very nice receiver with some complicated, but easily forgivable flaws for an amazing price. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the features it has to offer.

Pros: -The price: AMAZING for what you get -Feature-rich -Tremendous control over your sound IF you can master the interface -SiriusXM Additional Tuner Compatibility (although getting it is an additional cost) -10-band equalizer -POWERFUL sound options and customization -Subwoofer controls and subwoofer simulation: incredibly useful if you don't actually have a subwoofer -Pandora Bluetooth interface -USB interface -CD player (still nice to have for audiophiles)

Cons: -User interface, at best, can be tricky, and at worst, intimidating -The official Sony smartphone app is rubbish and generally superfluous; just learn the receiver's interface as it's much more rewarding -Not enough pages to save presets to (SiriusXM has a wide variety, and I don't have time to memorize individual channel numbers) -No option to hook up my existing Sony CD changer (I know they're obsolete, but I love my CDs!)

Installed this stereo in a 2007 Audi A3 (euro spec) with the Concert feature. The stereo fit like a glove and looks great. First impression after I turned it on was also great. Without making any adjustments the sound quality was far better than the factory stereo. Once I "dialed it in" the sound is really amazing. I haven't been able to play with all the features yet but the Bluetooth connection was easy for Android but not as easy for the iPhone. The iPhone will not automatically connect when the stereo turns on. This may be some setting that needs to be changed that I just haven't found yet. The Bluetooth phone works fine with the supplied microphone. I have had many Sony car stereos in the past and have never been disappointed. This one continues the streak.

Pros: Dynamic color change. Lots of features. Great sound quality even with the factory speakers.

Cons: All those features are still crammed in to a single line of text on the display. The back USB cable has a large plastic thing that surrounds the cord that is a little bigger than a AA battery that made it difficult to route the cable where I wanted it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an 05 Mini Cooper with the stock non-HK head unit and a portable Sirius Radio. What I wanted is a radio that would match the stock colors would give me hands free calling to my iPhone, would let me play music off of my iPhone and would charge the iPhone while it was hooked up. I guess after having the portable Sirius radio for so long I really just wanted a cleaner install without all the extra wires. I was just about to order this unit when the next one up the (mex-gs810bh) went on sale so I bought that one instead. It did all the new stuff I wanted just fine but the radio reception was bad. Stations that worked fine on the stock head went in and out constantly. I talked to Crutchfield and they agreed to send this one out as a replacement. The swap out was a 10 minute job since the harnesses are the same and the problem is fixed no HD radio - no problem. I have an iPhone 6s and the iPhone app isn't that useful. It's nice that it displays song information (which really should be shown on the head unit) and it makes adjusting the EQ a little easier but otherwise it's not that helpful. If you are using your phone for navigation and want to hear music interrupted by the directions you are limited to using the BT Audio input and playing music or pandora off of your phone. Not the end of the world but I like to listen to sports when I drive so I would prefer to use Sirius instead of data.

Pros: The head unit sounds great even with the stock speakers. I'm using the setting that applies a filter to the back to make them act like a sub. I know it's not the same but it does a pretty good job of adding base and it sounds way better than the stock head unit. Display color can be set to match car nearly perfectly. Hands Free Calls in an 11 year old car. SiriusXM (with adapter works great and easily hidden) iPhone connection and charging 1 visible wire (iPhone cable)

Cons: XM doesn't display helpful information unless you are using iPhone app Defaults to BT Pandora everytime I connect my phone which is NEVER what I want. Can't interrupt Sirius or Tuner inputs with directions from phone Can't reliably talk to Siri.

So - it works and sounds great! You can change the display colors to match whatever, set different colors for day/night, etc... Bluetooth setup as expected. The application is the neat part. I have an iPhone, and I'm fascinated with the fact that I can use the application to set the EQ. That and the fact that the app sets the clock without me having to do it was cool. Integration with the phone seems fine - no unexpected hiccups. The only "bummer" in this whole unit is that the unit sports the same "look and feel" that single din stereos have had for the last 20 years. In my case, I'm ok with it. Wasn't looking to alter the destiny of mankind with a car stereo at this price. Just wanted something reasonably priced that could rock the car. This does the trick!

Pros: Predictability, functionality, smart phone app, sounds great!

Cons: Predictability (yes, I know, it's a Pro too), price, while its not terribly complex, the menu could be made more simple.

I have owned Kenwood & JVC head-units before, and this definitely has the best sound of the 3 brands by far. The phone app equalizer makes it easy to tune. Lots of great features!

Pros: Looks good, amazing sound, phone app, detachable face-plate, bluetooth calls, multiple USB ports...

Cons: When connecting my phone via bluetooth, I have to choose between using my phone for calls or as a music player. If I have my phone connected for calls, I have to disconnect it & re-connect as a music player. Very inconvenient. Also, if I plug in a USB drive with multiple music folders, I have to cycle through each folder one at a time. After putting up with the stock (non-Infinity) stereo in my Jeep for almost 7 years, I finally bought an aftermarket unit. The first thing I noticed about the Sony was the build quality. It just feels... solid. Buttons didn't feel like they might break every time you pushed one. The display is very easy to read. Ability to change from several different colors was pretty cool also. My two biggest gripes about the display are: 1-You can't set it to show the time AND another piece of info, such as track name, artist, station, etc.. You're stuck with one item only. 2-The display wouldn't scroll to show the entire track/artist name. The user interface is clunky. Yes, you can read the manual and figure things out, but it just isn't intuitive at all. Sound quality seemed, meh. Nothing spectacular. It seemed to have more power than my stock unit, but sounded somewhat muddled to me. All things considered, I ended up exchanging it for a different radio. Between the muddled sound, and the lack of information in the display, I just couldn't see myself enjoying it much.

Pros: Vibrant display Easy to pair/use Bluetooth phone Can read incoming texts to you Good build quality

Cons: Lack of information on the display Clunky menu interface

I have 2 older Sony units in other Toyota's I own that work great. I like the Bluetooth and overall sound from these units and figured I'd stay with Sony for my 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited AWD. It may be that the issues I am having with sound quality would be there with any after-market unit in this vehicle. The factory pre-amp should perhaps be bypassed. When using the Crux (SWRTY-61J) interface, which keeps steering wheel control function - I was getting a weird pulsing and wave to the volume from all sources. After a few calls to tech support they offered me the Scosche SLC4 Line Output Converter to control this. This eliminated the pulse but no matter how I tweak the input/output levels on the converter, it sounds awful. I will continue working with Crutchfield to resolve this. I have heard that bypassing the factory amp is one solution, but then you will need further installs to amp the JBL subwoofer...Ugh! I guess you could leave the factory preamp for the sub and direct wire all the other speakers, what a hassle. May as well replace all the factory speakers as well, if you go that route! More than I bargained for in a vehicle this old. The install kit to convert to single DIN looks great and is easy to work with.

Pros: Sony quality, looks cool, fairly easy to install with Crutchfield parts

Cons: Sound in my vehicle, all the interfaces and extra gadgets needed, Bluetooth won't automatically connect (frustrating) like it did with the older Sony units I have. Factory pre-amp should probably be bypassed.

I have had three Sony MEX stereos. This one has nice feature improvements over the previous comparable models. I like that they all function similarly so I don't have to relearn how to operate. The only drawback I have at this time is the horrendous rattle that the faceplate makes. It rattles all the time. I thought it was the housing so I padded that. But it's not. It's the faceplate. Very disappointing. I had hoped to find a solution here, but now I can only hope to find a solution on the web.

Good valued purchase. The unit was easy to install with the purchased MFG harness. I used wire nuts and matched colors per the directions. 1 hour looking at directions, 15 minutes on wire nuts and 15 minutes installing it at the truck cab. Running the mic and USB wire was easy. The user interface was the hardest part because I did not read the instructions. If you can read, this is easy too. The head unit works great. It was easy to set radio stations (analog and digital). Its easy to switch from 3 fm sets and 2 am sets (in memory). Switching audio sources are easy too. Yes, a learning curve is needed to memorize USB play lists options, and everything else. I like it alot. I would have given it 5 stars, but the interface is clunky. Its probably as clunky as any other traditional unit. There are many features included that never existed when car radios were originally designed. There is only one "CUSTOM" equalizer setting. That's all I need. There are the "country, talk,etc/" equalizer settings too. I am thinking of buying another one for my other work truck.

Pros: Most buttons on the face manage all simple tasks. BT Phone stops tuner and passes the call thru the speakers. The mic works great. Mine is on my visor. In-call sound on both ends of the call is clear as a bell. I needed a blue tooth unit and wanted a USB feature. Crutchfield support answered my questions and their kit made my installation a snap. Its a good head unit.

Cons: Clunky interface. It is not intuitive, but not a reason not to buy it. When using Android BT (ex:Maps, Youtube, other sound/videos ) app on the phone, the receiver needs to be on BT Audio. I did not see if running my music thru the phone and GpS simultaneously would allow the GPS turns (verbal commands) to pass thru while I listen to music. That is what I would consider to be a Android issue, not the receiver. This like most every other unit does not play any lossless codecs.

A little overboard with the fin button stuff and beeps, but the blue tooth connection with my iPhone 5c is flawless. The sound over the Sony mic is great. I hit a button on the radio and Siri indicates she's listening and I just tell her to call someone on my list and she's off and calling. Tuner is great and the usb jack in the back is a great benefit. I have it outlet ting under my steering panel just above the pedals and have a 64Gb compact memory stick with a ton of music just waiting to be summoned. Still exploring and no regrets. Look forward to a speaker upgrade to see what it can do. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but it's a great toy on my commute.

Pros: Tuner is great. 3 yr warranty vs the 1 yr on several other stereos including the HD tuner version of this same product. Usb in front and back. Ease and clarity of the blue tooth hands-free phone calling through the stereo; much better than my 2015 accord factory hands free system.

Cons: More elegant style would be great; not as racy, but that's just me. Not a big deal. Software app does suck, though. Really.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this head unit with the idea of making it the "brains" of my sound system. It advertised to have all of the features I wanted, and at a reasonable price. I had been a Sony product fan for over two decades, so I bought this unit with confidence that it would serve my needs. Much to my dismay, I never could get it to sound right after installation. I have after-market amplifiers, one 4-channel for my front four speakers, and a separate amp for my subwoofers. I never could get enough mmmph on the bass, nor could I get good clean volume on the stereo portion of the sound stage. I changed the RCAs, wires, checked the amps, etc., and couldn't figure out why I was getting so little out of a system I worked on, and thought out so well. I finally decided to take it to an installer friend to try and figure out if I was overlooking something. He checked everything I had, and it came down to the head unit itself. He tested the pre-outs on the unit, and I was disappointed that the outputs were only putting out 1.9 volts at full load. The unit advertises that it has 5-VOLT pre-outs! I am sorely disappointed in this product as I was duped, and it was already too late to return the product. I am stuck with a unit that I won't use, and out money I'll never get back. Do ratings even matter anymore? If it is CEA compliant, who checks to make sure they are truthful in advertising their product?

Pros: Lots of great features, looks very cool.

Cons: Does NOT have 5-volt pre-outs as advertised!

Crutchfield response on 8/10/2015 Due to the feedback we received on this review, our research crew tested one of these Sony receivers. Using a multi-meter, the voltage on the preamp outputs was similar to what the customer experienced. However, when we used an oscilloscope and test tone discs, the preamp outputs tested at 5-volts with no clipping at the various test tone frequencies.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had the Sony MEX-GS610BT installed for a while now. I chose it to get some new digital media features into my car and because it has a brighter screen than some. It's installed in a convertible. Although the display is bright enough, there is a problem. The transparent plastic bezel over the display is curved. This guarantees that you will always get glare at every sun angle. You cannot read the display on a sunny day in the convertible. A flat bezel would be much, much better. I like the 2 USB ports. The unit is at its best for me playing from the 2nd USB port. I have it connected to a flash drive in the glove box. When I start the car and turn on the unit, it starts playing where it left off -- great. The worst feature is the really crappy Andriod app called "App Remote" that Sony uses for integration with your phone. It crashes a LOT. When you get in the car and want to play, say "Play Music" through Bluetooth, you have to unlock your phone before it will do anything. Then you have to select, either on the phone, or on the head unit, from the complete list of audio sources on your phone. Unlike some other systems, it does NOT just pick up where you left off when you and your phone get back in the car. It takes a great deal of fiddling.

Pros: Sounds great, especially from CD. Two USB ports. You can turn the display off (all dark) when you're not using it.

Cons: Terrible android app software "App Remote". Complex menus -- impossible to navigate without looking. No customization of buttons or menus. Curved bezel reflects sun glare.

I like the radio, I've had one similar to it. But instead of bass, mid, treble, this one has the 10 band EQ, which I'm not fond of. When listening to a flash drive, it can be confusing if you're moving to another song or moving to another folder. It does come with the external mic for Bluetooth your phone for calls and that works pretty well. No complaints from the person on the other end.

Pros: Good value for the money, sounds good, 2 sets of USB plugs, hands free for phone. 3 sets of pre amp outputs

Cons: Some things are confusing to operate until you get used to it.

After installing another stereo I exchanged it for the Sony MEX-GS610B. I appreciate the layout, it is easy to navigate, I also like the brighter display, especially during the daytime. It makes it easier to read. This unit has all of the features I was looking for. I like the blue tooth for use with my iPhone. I also like the USB port on the front so I may plug in my iPod to play music. There are other features I need to lean how to use. Overall it is a stylish unit with great sound.

Pros: Noted above. The Crutchfield team has always been very helpful and easy to work with. Great service!!! I have purchased several systems from them and have always been very satisfied. I recommend them to my friends and family.

Cons: I wish the installation kit could have been nicer looking for my install in my Lincoln Town Car. Once I installed the stereo with the kit I found the kit did not securely hold my stereo in place in the opening. I tried making adjustments but it didn't seem to make a difference.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio because it was suggested to me by the Crutchfield advisors. They got everything exactly right for what I was looking for in a radio. I have a 2010 Ford F150 XL. I took the stock radio out of my dash and I installed an Ipad mini where the radio goes. I was looking for a radio that I could control easily that was compatible with the Ipad and that I could retain control of the Ipad or use the radio. The remoteapp that you can get for this radio is exactly what I was looking for. IT is easy to use and all the ways you can adjust it are amazing. Each options (I.E. tuner, cd Aux etc..) has an equalizer option that you can adjust for that specific option. you want your FM stations to have more treble and less bass, you can do that. You want your cds to have more bass, you can do that to without interfering with you FM EQ preset. I was also looking that would not break the bank and this radio fit into that as well. The only negative with this is in the app not the radio. you cannot control the Ipad/Ipod music hardly at all. It only give you a shuffle option which you can just swipe right or left for the next song. or up and down for playlists. I ended up installing this in a no factory location at the bottom of my dash. it all works and fits perfectly. If you want a radio that you can use with your ipad/ipods this is the radio for you. it gives you the option to control everything from the ipad/ipod or the radio itself.

Pros: Awesome integration of Ipad/Ipod products. the remote app is superb. Does not break the bank. easy customization. Can use all features of ipad/ipod without the app.

Cons: The remorteapp leaves a lot to be wanted in the way to play music from your ipad/ipod making the only way to play your music and not go insane is to open up your music directly from itunes.

Overall very happy with head unit.

Pros: Two usb connections, comes with mic and a lot of cord to mount it almost anywhere, Bluetooth.

Cons: Bluetooth call quality not the greatest.

Installed in 30 min. Sounds superior to previous aftermarket cd deck by far. Great 12 ban eq adjusts everything you would want. Many different ways to connect your smart phone or MP3 device. Bluetooth works great with my iPhone 6+. Calls are clear and mic works great. Callers can hear my voice as if I was using my phone. Very nice upgrade. I've had most major brands of cd decks and I keep returning to Sony and am never disappointed.

Pros: Great connectivity, eq, boost power. Bluetooth connects when I get in automatically.

Cons: Not as iphone friendly (app) as it could be. Only can control most app settings when connected with usb cord and not when connected with bluetooth. But once eq is set, it remembers it. Can only hope for better app options for iPhones. When choosing which input to use, there are a lot of choices and you have to scroll through them instead of just pressing one button. ie: aux, bluetooth audio, usb 1, usb 2, cd, tuner, bluetooth phone, bluetooth pandora.

Let me start by saying that I am in my mid forties and it has been at least two decades since I had any experience with aftermarket stereos. The head unit was easy to install with the supplied adapter and wiring harness. This unit is a vast improvement over the factory head unit and sounds great. There is a bit of a learning curve (see my opening sentence) for the menu and the initial setup, but I found that I could follow along with the manual and get it done. I was initially diasappointed with the bluetooth setup since I have an Iphone. According to the manual you have to plug the Iphone in via usb to auto connect bluetooth, but I have found that once connected the phone will automatically reconnect as long as the phone bluetooth is on when I start the Jeep. The variable colors are a cool feature. I was able to match the display color to the factory gauges and displays.

Pros: Great sound. Variable display color.

    Cons: Menu system.

Good solid knobs, very customizable color and display. Greatd sound. Works o.k. with iPhone 6. Pressing the volume knob activates Siri sometimes but not consistantly. However, if you press the home button on the phone Siri always works through the receiver. BT audio is great. Navigating the USB music folders can be a bit tedious.

Pros: Great sound, solid feel, cusomizable display

Cons: Navigation of music folders is a little confusing or tedious. Also, the phone button answers an in-coming call and hangs up a call on connection with an iPhone 6, but pressing it does not activate Siri or any dialing functions to make a call. The instruction shows a method to dial calls or numbers using the receiver but that does not seem to work with iPhone 6. You have to dial via your phone or use Siri on your phone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This otherwise pretty good receiver has ridiculous controls, with the usual tiny and cheap buttons. Just trying to select the button to skip to the next song, often results in nothing happening, or it may go to the next song, or it may select some other function that I don't even know what the cryptic message is saying. I can tell you that once there, the only way to get out, is to power off and back on. I could be pressing the wrong button, who knows. They are so small and stacked on top of each other. For Pete's sake, this is a car receiver and people are normally driving when using it. I guess I'm supposed to bring along a passenger so they can read the manual and operate it. I say read the manual, because it is NOT intuitive. Everything about controlling the thing is hit or miss. Sometimes when I have my iPhone connected to the USB 2 port it will work as expected, and other times it won't. Sometimes it will connect via Bluetooth and you can use the phone, and other times you have to go into the phones to tell it to connect. I don't know why it can not do the phone functions (placing and receiving calls) through the USB port, but it does not seem to. You can change the display to a billion different colors and there are menus to do all sort of things. Who needs all this crap, I'm driving for God's sake.

Pros: Yes it sounds good, as long as you don't mind the ridiculous interface, it's great. This seems to be the case with most of these aftermarket radios for cars. Some marine equipment is much better, like Fusion.

Cons: The user interface is horrible, the worst I've ever used. The app had wonderful potential, but failed in most every respect. Is this the best Sony could do. They need to take the engineers and stick them in a car and have them operate the receiver and try the app. It seems obvious they have never done that. FM reception poor, as are almost all aftermarket radios. This one is not the worst but still can't pull stations that the cheap factory radio could.

    Great Sound!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After much research and comparison I found this unit to be the "cream of the crop" within this price range. I installed this in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler with the OEM upgraded sound system and the difference in the output is overwhelming. I had already replaced/upgraded all the speakers and was still not satisfied. In hindsight, replacing the head unit with this Sony may have been all that was required. Installation was easy enough with one minor exception. With the steering wheel adapter control harness there is one step that I miss-wired that prevented me from hearing in coming calls. In the wiring instructions it tells you to match the colors of the wiring harness to the wires from the head unit which I did, the first time. HOWEVER, it also tells you (which should have been in bold print or underlined in my opinion) that if you are using an OEM amp, you are to attached the front speaker wires to the rear speaker wires of the Sony. This is something I figured out after talking to two Crutchfield reps and them sending me a replacement unit. Could have saved both of us some time and energy if this issue was identified in their technical notes. Kudo's to them for customer service in any event.

Pros: I believe my review says it all. This is SO MUCH BETTER than my stock Jeep unit,.

Cons: Not really a con but programming takes a bit to get used to but works with ease after a bit of trial and error.

Sorry, don't know much about "coolness factor". To me, it's an appliance. Having said that, the sound quality and performance through the Kicker speakers purchased with it, is nothing short of outstanding. I like my tunes at a fairly high volume level, and this unit did not disappoint. The upgrade over stock in my 1999 Silverado was incredible. Using primarily a flash drive as the music source, there truly were things heard in songs I've not heard before, and most of my library is 60's through 80's era rock, blues and country. I honestly don't know what use the included remote is, but people must want them for something. Mine's still in the plastic bag it came in, and will probably remain there forever. The color adjust was nice to match the other lighted controls and gauges in the dashboard so it didn't stick out. If, however, you want it to do that, there's quite a selection. Can't vouch for the radio performance as I never listen to it. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

Pros: Sound quality, easy menu for a non-tech guy like myself and dash fit does not look cheap.

Cons: A small one, but in order to hook up microphone for blue tooth cell, had to remove instrument cluster to run cord behind dash and up left window pillar to attach to left visor. I don't like exposed wiring of any kind, so that's how I resolved it. Only took twenty minutes, but it would have been nice to possibly have a flush mounting surface right in the adapting bezel for the unit. Was going to drill my own, but didn't want to compromise any rigidity.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was disappointed with the Sony MEX-GS610BT. Great sound but the display and menus are just plain crude. I really wasn't looking for anything exotic, just reliable and efficient. This unit delivers on reliability but is certainly a let down in operation.

    Pros: Nice sound. Easy installation.

Cons: Crude menus. Primitive display. Unreliable bluetooth pairing.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used to do Car Audio Competitions and never really liked Sony at all. However, with all the changes in the car audio industry only a few players left. I decided to give Sony a try since almost everything is made in China and being Sony thought it may be built elsewhere and it was Thailand. This HU is great has all the features you would need if you are a tuner but has the latest Technology regarding Bluetooth and NFC. The 5v Pre-outs where a requirement for me since I run amplifiers and this HU drives the Amplifiers great with super clean sound. You can control everything with the Sony App from Google Play. This make tuning really easy. If you listen to the Radio this unit has RDS and the radio is clean and loud.

Pros: 5V preouts NFC & Latest Bluetooth Mutlicolor display - Match your interior lighting Build Quaility Radio reception and Sound. 3 year Warranty Sony Application to control everything on Headunit. Microphone with Noise Canceling Technology 2 settings.

    Cons: None So far

    Great experiance

The website was easy to navigate and suggested every thing needed to install the unit in my car. Fast shipping, easy to read directions, great product. I called tech support to get an answer about the steering wheel control device I purchased also and they were very fast to answer and diagnosed the solution very quickly.

Pros: Easy install. Fast shipping. Tech support.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price & 2 hours of my time I converted a tired old stock radio into a modern full featured "system" with blue tooth. As a bonus it blows away the sound from the factory. An absolute no brainer. Not to mention how great Crutchfield's tech service was on the phone. Anyone with an old Porsche factory radio should just make the call and update the POS that came with the care

    Pros: Easy cheap & descent

Cons: I'm to old to learn all the functions

    Great stereo !!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    * Crutchfield has warranty as 1 year but this is Sony's premium GS series that comes with a 3 year parts/labor warranty. * Had this for bout 2 weeks now and enjoying every bit of it. All of the up to date features and fine audio tuning options are easy to navigate. I still have factory speakers (not paper cones) and they sound so much better now. I also have a 10' sub with monoblock amp so the 5V rca really provides a clean and powerful signal. The top of the line single din units from Pioneer and Kenwood might sound a little better but for all the features I get with this one, 3 year warranty, and the price it's hard to pass up. Also discovered that the AppRemote lets you fine tune the time alignment even more. My wife liked mine so much that I just installed the Sony MEX-N5000BT in her car this week (basically the same unit with a few features missing).

Pros: Sound quality, AppRemote is very usefull, second usb port is 2 amps to charge and use my iPad at the same time.

    Cons: None at all

Bluetooth Technology: The Sony MEX-GS610BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 3.1), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony MEX-GS610BT.

Simple Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Sony MEX-GS610BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can register up to nine Bluetooth enabled devices with the Sony head unit and keep two devices connected at all times (only one can be used at a time). Once paired, the MEX-GS610BT will automatically re-connect to your device when in close proximity. The head unit also offers unique pairing for Android and iPhone smartphone to make Bluetooth pairing even easier.

    • Near Field Communication (for Android): Android (OS 4.0+) smartphones that have Near Field Communication (NFC) pair simply by touching the Android device's NFC tag to the head unit's NFC tag on it rotary-knob. For older Android smartphones with OS 4.0 or lower, download the NFC Easy Connect app from Google Play to use the head unit's NFC pairing function.
    • USB Pairing (for iPhone): You can pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Sony head unit via USB and activating the Bluetooth function on your Apple device.

Hands-Free Communication w/ External Mic: The Sony MEX-GS610BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). Bluetooth hands-free communication helps to minimize distraction while driving by allowing you to control your mobile phone from the head unit, so you don't have to touch your mobile phone. The controls of the MEX-GS610BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered manually or automatically (between 3-10 seconds) through the Sony head unit, while the ring tone is output from your car speakers and the caller's name or phone number is displayed on the head unit's LCD. Incoming calls can also be rejected if desired.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the MEX-GS610BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways.
      • Entering Phone #: Allows you to manually dial a phone number using the unit's control dial.
      • Preset Dial: You can store up to 6 contacts in the preset dial for quick dialing.

      • Voice Dial: You can make a call using the voice tags stored on your connected cellular phone.
      • Redial: Use to easily redial the last number you called.
Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 11' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone comes with a mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.515" (depth).

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Sony MEX-GS610BT can stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat) for both stored music and music apps, the MEX-GS610BT provides a Search List of your stored music by Category or Playlist (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+). The head unit will also display device's stored music and music app song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Sony MEX-GS610BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the MEX-GS610BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the MEX-GS610BT ; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    Audio Section

Dynamic Reality Amp: The redesigned, internal Dynamic Reality Amp circuitry boasts 47% lower internal resistance compared to conventional in-dash receiver, delivering 55 watts x 4 channels of Peak power to your vehicle's speakers. This allows you to crank up the volume while maintaining low distortion, low noise levels, and smooth frequency response. The power output specs for the MEX-GS610BT are as follows:

    • Continuous Power Output: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Power Output: 55 watts x 4-channels (220 total watts)

Note: The power specifications for the Sony MEX-GS610BT are compliant with the CTA-2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

6ch/5V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Sony MEX-GS610BT is equipped with 5-volt Front, Rear, & Sub pre-amp outputs giving you the ability to connect external amplifiers to your car stereo system. The unit's subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The subwoofer preamp output features a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the low-pass crossover. You can even adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. In addition, you can select the phase of the subwoofer output from Normal or Reverse.

Note: You can connect a subwoofer to this head unit without the need of a separate power amplifier. Simply connect a single subwoofer (4-8 ohm) directly to head unit's left or right rear speaker leads (but not both). Same subwoofer controls apply.

High-Pass Filter: The front & rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover.

Advanced Sound Engine: Sony's Advanced Sound Engine creates an ideal in-car sound field with digital signal processing. Advanced Sound Engine contains the following features: EQ10, ClearAudio+, Listening Position, Rear Bass Enhancer (RBE), Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), Advanced Auto Volume (AAV), and Loudness.

    • EQ10 w/ ClearAudio+: R&B, Rock, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Jazz, Soul, Country, Custom, or Off (Flat). The Custom mode allows you to make your own equalizer settings. You can adjust the level (+/-6dB) of 10 different frequency bands - Band1 (32Hz), Band2 (63Hz), Band3 (125Hz), Band4 (250Hz), Band5 (500Hz), Band6 (1khz), Band7 (2khz), Band8 (4kHz), Band9 (8kHz), and Band10 (16kHz).
    • Listening Position: This unit can change the localization of sound by delaying the sound output from each speaker to suit your position, and simulate a natural sound field with the feeling of being in the center of it wherever you sit in the car. You can choose from Front Right, Front Left, Front Center, or Off. You can also set the subwoofer distance of the subwoofer to Near, Normal, or Far
    • Rear Bass Enhancer (RBE): RBE enhances the bass sound by applying the low-pass filter setting to the rear speakers. This function allows the rear speakers to work as a subwoofer even if there is no subwoofer connected.
    • Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE): DSEE improves digitally compressed music files by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process.
    • Advanced Auto Volume (AAV) + Loudness: This feature adjusts the playback volume level of all playback sources to the optimum level. Loudness reinforces bass and treble for clear sound at low volume levels.

Beep Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face w/ Caution Alarm: The Sony MEX-GS610BT features a detachable face for theft prevention. If you turn the ignition switch to the Off position without detaching the head unit's front-panel, the caution alarm will sound for a few seconds. The alarm will only sound if the unit's built-in amplifier is used. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Dynamic Color Illuminator (35,000 colors): Dynamic Color Illuminator lets you match the head unit's LCD & button illumination to complement your existing vehicle lighting components. With selectable Sound Synchronization, the timing of the color change is synchronized with the audio source. You can select from 12 preset colors (red/amber/m-amber/yellow/white/light green/green/light blue/sky blue/blue/purple/pink), customized color (R-G-B), & 5 preset patterns (rainbow/ocean/sunset/forest/random). The unit's Dynamic Color Illuminator offers the following advance features.

    • Day/Night Color Mode: You can register a customize color for the unit's display and buttons for day & night time driving.
    • Sound Synchronization: The color changes according to synchronization of playing music. When you select a preset pattern sound synchronization becomes effective.
    • White Menu: You can display the menu more clearly (White text) without concern for the unit's other color settings.
    • Start White: When you power-on the head unit, the color of the unit's display and buttons turn white and then the color changes to your chosen customize color. You can enjoy this effect whenever the source is turned on.
Note: To change the brightness of the display you can set the MEX-GS610BT to one of three dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer), and Dimmer On (display always dim).

Auto Scroll: The Auto Scroll feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Source/Off button once will switch sources. Pressing and holding the Source/Off button for one second will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. To turn the unit off completely, you must press and hold the Source/Off button for two seconds.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

Demo Mode: The head unit's demo mode can be turned On or Off.

    Remote Control

App Remote Technology: Sony's App Remote Technology offers two-way communication between the Sony MEX-GS610BT and your USB-connected iPhone (iOS 5+) or Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.1-2.3 Froyo/Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0-4.2). You will need to download the free Sony App Remote application from the Apple App Store or the Google Play App Store. This application integrates compatible Apple iOS and Android apps into the selectable source list of the Sony CD receiver and lets you launch apps from the head unit. You can operate basic functionality of compatible audio apps directly from the receiver (operation differs depending on the app). Movie and navigation apps will continue to be controlled from your smartphone. In addition, you can control the receiver's sources directly from the application on your smartphone using simple finger gestures and see detailed source information on the phone's touchscreen.

    • Receiver Sources: The App Remote lets you access the head unit's Tuner (AM/FM), CD, iPhone, Bluetooth, and Aux sources from your phone's touchscreen. You can use finger gestures to tap, flick left/right, or flick up/down on the phone's touchscreen in order to change AM/FM Band, Play/Pause a track, Seek Up/Down a track or station, select a Preset, or access an Album. You will also be able to see song/artist information from MP3/WMA and smartphone sources, as well as station identification numbers from AM/FM radio.
    • Compatible Apps (as of 4/1/2014): The App Remote also provides various music, movie, and navigation apps which can be accesses from the Sony MEX-GS610BT's source list. Available operation differs depending on the application.
      • Music Apps: Music apps include; Pandora, AUPEO!, iHeartRadio, MOG, and TuneIn. The head unit only provides basic Play/Pause functions and no song/artist information for these music apps.
      • Movie Apps: Movie apps include Netflix and YouTube. Video will be displayed on your smartphone's screen, while the audio plays through your vehicle's speakers. You can control Play/Pause from the MEX-GS610BT. Other playback functions will need to done on your smartphone. Subscription may be required. You should not watch videos while your vehicle is in motion.
      • Navigation Apps: Supported navigation apps include Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, and MotionX GPS Drive. The map screen will display on your smartphone's touchscreen, while audible directions can be heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can continue to listen to music streamed from your smartphone while navigating; the unit will attenuate your music during a navigation voice-prompt. Control of the navigation apps will still be done through your smartphone's touchscreen. Fees may apply for some navigation apps & functions.
    • Voice Communication + Notification Readout (Android only): Exclusive to Android devices, App Remote technology for the MEX-GS610BT head unit adds a voice user interface for voice control of apps and functions such as navigation and music playback, notification readouts including RSS feeds, Twitter, and text message reply. Through voice operation, you can safely and comfortably operate your smartphone in the car from the Sony MEX-GS610BT CD receiver. Incoming SMS/E-mail and Twitter/Facebook/Calendar notifications are automatically read aloud through the MEX-GS610BT and your vehicle's speakers to keep you in touch.
    • Custom Sound Settings: From your Android smartphone remote screen, you get access to audio & DSP settings (Equalizer, Volume Control, Fader/Balance/Subwoofer, and Listening Position).
Note: Access to the music, movie, and navigation apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Wireless Remote Control: The head unit comes supplied with an IR wireless remote control (RM-X231) for easy operation. The included wireless remote allows you to control the basic functions (not Bluetooth) of the Sony head unit while keeping your eyes on the road.

I have always had good luck and been happy with SONY car stereos. I chose this one because it not only has two USB inputs but bluetooth input as well. It has the extras that my factory stereo was lacking. [ R  May 15, 2017 ]
This Sony unit is awesome with really good features and great sound! [ Vernon  May 01, 2017 ]
Great reviews, very reasonable price, fit everything I was looking for in a car stereo. [ Shea  Apr 19, 2017 ]
Good reviews and features. [ dwain  Apr 17, 2017 ]
With so many great receivers to choose from, I decided on this Sony because it had the biggest discount. I felt I was getting the most for the money I spent. It was also comparable to other receivers in the same price range I was considering. I have never had issues with other brands I have purchased in the past but never had a Sony car receiver. I have many other Sony products that I'm extremely happy with. [ David  Apr 05, 2017 ]
I like Sony products, and it was a good deal on this particular one [ CJ  Apr 01, 2017 ]
Always loved Sony products, and compared to other radios including Alpine radios for the price and quality of Sony's products you cant beat it. Plus a 3 year warranty compared to Alpine, I'll sacrifice a few watts of power for a 3 year warranty and a savings of over $100. [ kimberly  Mar 30, 2017 ]
Sony receivers have given outstanding service aboard our sailboat. The previous Sony was taken out by lighting and i found the Kenwood unacceptable, using bluetooth. [ Kenneth  Mar 28, 2017 ]
We wanted to upgrade our stereo to one with Bluetooth functions, not break the bank and I am a big fan of Sony products. [ Trevor  Mar 28, 2017 ]

    Love radio [ Tina  Feb 27, 2017 ]
I purchased this unit because of the reviews. I was looking at Kenwood, but their reviews weren't very good. But this Sony unit sounds perfect. [ Robert  Feb 27, 2017 ]
    liked it [ kevin  Jan 13, 2017 ]

This stereo has all the features that my factory radio lacks. I have had very good experiences with Sony stereos in the past so I'm being brand loyal. [ Wade  Jun 05, 2016 ]
I had this receiver in another car and really liked it's features. [ Thomas  May 06, 2016 ]
Trust Sony brand and it has the options I want. [ Robert  Jan 27, 2016 ]
It has a lot of features and a good price! [ TOMY  Jan 07, 2016 ]
I'd bought a similar Sony head unit for another vehicle and loved it but this one seems to have a slower processor that makes changing songs torture when listening to usb. I'd switch it out for the older model any day. [ Paul  Jan 02, 2016 ]
Installed in my 1994 Ford Ranger, love it. This Sony face plate has equipped my truck with updated technologies in media trends, we are now hands free, Bluetooth, and voice activated. Haven't replaced a car stereo since cassettes came out, this was an easy task with the installation package from the Crutchfield team. Five stars for the stereo and Crutchfield. Good question- never have tried ? [ JIMMY W  Jul 05, 2017 ]
I havent used one. Ive been using the bluetooth but im sure it can use a flash drive. Only thing would be trying to navigate it to get it to play the songs. I know touchscreens defiently do. And as far as formate. Any common formats will work [ Keven  Jul 04, 2017 ]
William. Don't know the answer to your question, but wanted to share that I bought one of these in August 2015 and installed it in a 2001 Accord. It died about 10 months later. I sent it in under warranty for a replacement unit, but Sony sent my money back instead. While I miss the USB option and the hands-free telephone features, I wouldn't go through the installation effort a second time with this product. In the end, I settled for my factory unit with the infinity speakers (an improved sound) that I had installed with the sony head. If I ever revisit a stereo head purchase again with this car, I would look to kenwood or someone other than sony for my next purchase, for whatever that's worth to you. [ Laton  Feb 21, 2017 ]

IF the phone is a Droid it'll work just fine Bluetooth and all. Great piece. It has never dissapointe me yet. [ kevin  Jun 28, 2016 ]
It should, if you're using Bluetooth. I've used various iPhones and Android phones with it without issue. [ Erik  Jun 28, 2016 ]
For the Sony unit I bought my Android and a iPhone both worked with the Bluetooth option [ Darrell  May 29, 2016 ]
Yes, this unit's pandora controls work for Android, that's all I've ever owned and every feature worked as advertised for me. Feature packed and I loved it. My only problem was that it had some software issues sometimes where it would freeze up for like 30 seconds, then make a loud "pop" noise at full volume and restart as if the unit had never been turned on before. Happened to me fairly frequently. It may, however, be just my unit. [ Michael  May 29, 2016 ]
This is a great head unit, and I'd happily buy it again. I don't have any experience with an android, all I've had were iPhones, and never had a problem with any BT feature. Great sound from this head unit when paired with my Focals and JL sub [ Clint  May 29, 2016 ]

It sort of works, but it is a little too low powered to fully charge some phones. I find that a Y cable using both the front and rear ports works very well though [ ZACHARY  Jan 04, 2016 ]

Not through USB but you would be able to use the bluetooth and you could most definitely use the headphone jack on your phone to the audio port on the front. The advertising for Sirius radio on this stereo is for the Sirius/XM turner that is separate from your phone. But you can always send audio signal from any app on you phone. I use other audio apps like Spotify and Digital FM and they both play perfectly through my bluetooth to the stereo. You will need to install the Sony apps on your android device to communicate properly to the stereo. Once you have all of that setup you can play anything from you phone to the stereo via bluetooth. USB can only be used as a USB storage device. If you have have music on your phone it will see the audio tracks stored there and play them, but you would not use the USB to play from apps on your phone. You could even put mp3s on a USB flash drive and hook that up to the USB port if you wanted to. [ Recreation  Nov 03, 2014 ]
Thanks for all of the replies [ Kieran Lavin  Nov 03, 2014 ]
I haven't used the sub port much. I have an android phone and it has been my experience that any audio you have coming through the phone will broadcast to the unit through the Bluetooth audio setting. I watch espn on mineand I get the audio through my head unit. I would assume the usb would be just as cconvenient. I have enjoyed this radio since I installed it. [ william  Nov 03, 2014 ]
I would think so, but I'm not positive as I only have a iphone [ kevin  Nov 03, 2014 ]
    Yes it will. [ Guest  Nov 03, 2014 ]
I'm not sure about USB but you should be able to to use it via the Bluetooth audio source on the radio. I know audio from YouTube will play via Bluetooth so I'm guessing any audio output from your phone will work through it. Hope this helps. sincerely, Tyler [ Tyler  Nov 03, 2014 ]
I have never tried this. I do play Slacker and other music services via USB. Plus, you can always stream via Bluetooth, right? [ Adam  Nov 02, 2014 ]
Well first I really like my stereo, I operate a iPhone with or without cord from stereo. But all items from the download to the phone work. It take a little playing around but I think you really will enjoy it. I hope this helps. [ KEITH  Nov 02, 2014 ]

The 5000bt only has a front USB Port (it only supplies a 2V connection) and according to the Sony website it does not list the iPhone 5 (it might still work but without testing it yourself there really is no way of knowing unless someone else has one) The gs610bt has front and rear USB ports. Also this model gives you 5V through the USB ports. Which is possibly why the iPhone 5 is listed as being compatible. The reason for the increase in voltage through the USB ports is that you will be able to charge your phone through this USB port at a much faster rate. Some phones (like the iPhone 5) will not even charge properly or at all. A lot of the newer Android phones also have this issue if you do not use an adequate amount of voltage the phone will say it is charging but it will not really charge very fast it would take a whole day to charge. I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: It doesn't come with any type of cover, but we do offer a universal marine cover that would fit over it. You can find that here: If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  May 16, 2014 ]  Staff
