More than a pretty face

Sony's CDX-GT270MP CD receiver combines a user-friendly front-panel design with some nice options that'll keep you entertained. Designed with a sleek face that's detachable for security, this receiver features red button illumination that makes for maximum visibility at night. But this puppy is more than just a pretty face.

This Sony features a user-friendly control panel, including preset buttons and an auxiliary input.

Plenty of bang for your buck

Sony's provided a built-in 3-band equalizer so you can tweak the bass, midrange, and treble to get your music sounding just right. If you've got a sub in your car, you can use the receiver's high-pass filter to trim the low bass out of your speakers, so the built-in amp can rock louder without distortion. Sony's proud of their Digital Clarity tuner that reduces interference and increases separation for excellent AM/FM reception. You can play your storebought CDs or discs loaded with MP3/WMA music, and the front auxiliary input makes it easy to jam out with just about any portable device. Sony includes a wireless card remote so you can control all this entertainment.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

My factory radio with 6 CD changer failed so I had to replace it. I chose this one for the price and value and wasn't disappointed. Crutchfield support with installation instructions and all the right parts and adapters and wiring was super-impressive! It installed without a hitch and I find it intuitive to use and a great sound with good features too.

Pros: Overall this is a decent receiver/ CD player. Nice appearance and detachable face is ideal for a convertible. I would recomend to anyone looking for a low price and acceptable features.

Cons: I was confused on how to use controls. I think with some use and a learning period they wont be too bad. They are no different than any radio of its type. Just new to me

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price this radio was a no brainer. I was looking for a simple radio to replace my broken stock radio, something that had an Aux in and decent sound. This radio totally delivers! It's really easy to use and there are a lot of sound options for getting it to sound just right in your car. Installation was a snap with the proper accessories. The radio might not turn heads as it is a basic functional radio, but for me it was perfect.

Pros: Easy to use and Install, great sound and aux in port for my phone/ipod. Great sound options and pleanty of presets.

Seems to be a good unit. I have not used it much as it's July and I put it in an ice fishing house. Wish it had individual controls for base/treble like car radios. Will know more come December. Had to "rebend the tabs" to get it to snap into the adapter . Overall a good buy for the price.

    Pros: Plenty of power

Cons: Adapter sleeve had to be modified to get unit to snap into place.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent value for the price. I received everything I needed for my mom's '02 Saturn SL1 . 3 band EQ, MP3 compatible, front AUX. She didn't care about the preamps, no USB or more EQ bands. She just needed a basic stereo to play CDs and radio stations clear. This Sony does that very well. Stations come in much better than the OEM CD player. The sound quality is much improved as well. Even with the stock coaxial speakers, it sounds very good. I am impressed also at its ease of use. It didn't take long to get using it habitually. Satisfied with purchase and Sony products. PS, Crutchfield's service is top notch!

    Sony CDX-GT270MP Review

mithode from Bowling Green, Ohio on 3/27/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this because it was a Sony product. As such, the build quality seems to be there. I bought it ONLY because I wanted an input for my IPod. It fits perfectly in a 1998 Honda CR-V, ie it fits in the same location as the factory radio without need for the "special" instal kit recommended by Crutchfield . I was also able to retain the original little bin compartment under the radio. Having said that, you have to be clever about mounting the original bin under the new Sony radio. It takes some fiddling to make the original bin clips fit into some holes on the Sony radio. It is easy to do. But SHAME on Crutchfield for not recommending a mating plug. The male power plug that comes with the radio just has loose wires on it. You would have to cut wires on the ORIGINAL female plug and wire it to the Sony male plug....... all while sitting inside you car working through your dashboard. I found a female plug on-line and wired the Sony male plug to it. PS. find the YouTube video on how to take a CR-V dashboard apart, that save lots of time. On to the disappointment. The radio interface is clumsy. My biggest peeve is how the SETUP is tied to the volume. If you press the volume button, it goes into setup mode, then as you turn the knob all the parameters scroll instead of changing the volume. How frequent do you need to change the radio sound, etc? Also, the radio beeps when you shut the car remind you to remove the faceplate. Drive me nuts and you can't turn it off.

Pros: Seems like Sony quality, I can pull in more stations.

Cons: Poorly designed user interface. I wish it had a knob for changing stations. Really, coolness factor for a car radio? Just give me one that easy to work with.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My son and I spent Saturday afternoon on this project. The instructions for the disassembly of my 2004 Honda Civic dashboard were pretty straight forward as were the instructions for assembling the adapter plug. Reassembly instructions could have been clearer. Rudy in support was awesome! The unit sounds great!

Pros: The Sony unit beats the heck out of a replacement Honda radio plus $250 for installation. Great telephone support at 4:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. Sound quality equal to or better than the OEM unit.

Cons: The antenna connection was on the opposite side of where it was on the original radio and was too short to reach the socket on the new unit. We went to another retailer for an extension cable.

    2000 Volkswagen Beetle
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the factory radio in my 2000 VW Beetle with this Sony. I was able to install it myself, and it works great. I was disappointed with the instructions, though - they were frustratingly vague, and the install took me most of a day. I started with the parts list; first thing: I need a Torx T15 screwdriver. An unexpected trip to the store. 3 or 4 pages later, I need a wire stripper and crimping caps. Those weren't even on the parts list! So yet another trip to the store. The hardest step didn't have any tips or instructions at all: how to fit 2 new adapters, 14 extra lengths of wire, and 11 crimp caps into the already too-tight space behind the receiver under the dash. I had to call in my husband for the equivalent of sitting on the suitcase lid to get it jammed shut. Frustrating, as I wanted to do the whole install myself!

    Pros: Works

Cons: Vague instructions, not all needed tools are listed up front.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this SONY to replace a BLAUPUNKT that I purchased from Crutchfield ten years ago. The SONY installation was easy because of the Crutchfield conversion kit that was already installed in my 1985 Mercedes. The SONY operates wonderfully and gets better as I learn more about the built-in features.

Pros: Ease of installation. Great price (better than Amazon). Tech support from Crutchfield is always the best.

Cons: I find the bright red lighting on the controls to be a bit annoying and too flashy for me.

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Sony CDX-GT270MP to be installed into my wife's 2007 Ford Taurus. The sound quality is outstanding. Really there is no comparison between the Sony and the factory stereo. It definitely makes our drives more enjoyable knowing that we can change from tuner to CD to Aux modes with a push of a button. We are still getting used to all of the features and functions of the Sony, but overall am very pleased with the product. Thank you very much!!

I've had no problems with this head unit. Had it for about a month now. Easy to use and looks pretty cool. I see people saying that you can't get rid of the "scrolling messages" and that its "too bright." Both of that is nonsense. You can turn the scrolling messages off and you can dim the lights on the HU. If you can't figure something out... read the manual. I didn't have to read it because its very easy to use.

I used this stereo to replace my factory stereo in my 2005 honda civic. So far its given me no real issues.. however I'd recommend reading the user guide before using the stereo, especially when changing the sound settings. Some of the settings lingo/accessibility is difficult to understand and use. The sound quality isn't always superb, but that's probably due to the speakers in my car. Either way its lightyears better then my factory stereo (plays mp3 cds/ipod dock) and it was cost efficient!

Excellent product for the price. Easy to install; took about one hour. Connected well to On Star. Both receiver and CD perform in an excellent manner. This was a replacement for a factory unit that would have cost over $800 to replace. Haven't used the Aux jack as yet, trusting it will perform as does the rest of the unit.

Pros: Great price for the equipment provided. Good sound (not great sound) , easy to program and operate. Fits very well in dash as a replacement to the factory unit.

Cons: Doesn't offer top of the line individual front and rear speaker balance; just basic balance. Clock screen will not remain in place without scrolling of options.

Overall it's a pretty decent head unit. Sound quality is what you would expect out of Sony. It is a basic unit as for features. Very easy to install and wire up. However the menu navigation is "clunky" at best. Once you figure that out the features are lacking. Setting your tones for the sound you wish to hear leaves a lot to be desired. I also don't particularly care for the constant scrolling and blinking text about features. I do a lot of night driving and it's distracting with all this going on about every 15 mins.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I waited two months before posting this just in case the receiver blew up but it didn't so Hooray For Me. Anyway, it's a good solid set up and I have no complaints. People have called this out for not being user friendly but as long as you skim the manual, you'll be good to go. I make a point to stow the face plate when the car is going to be in the sun as per the instructions and I haven't had any problems. It sounds great and my MP3 player sounds swell played through it; it's leagues better than the factory model (and playing through its cassette deck was both a hassle and didn't do the MP3 any favors.) The only minor gripe I have is that the crimps supplied were different than the crimps in the instructions so I ended up destroying a few before I finally figured things out and because I chose to have this flush to the dash, I had to put some some bolts underneath the adapter/harness things so the receiver wouldn't wobble inward when you press the buttons. Still, I did request the in-dash option so that's all on me. Anyway, it's a terrific value and highly recommend it..

Pros: Sound great, easy installation, easy-to-use.

Cons: some minor inconsistencies in the instructions and the materials supplied.

I bought this one strictly for the price as I needed something just so my kid can stick her iPod in to to play her teenie bopper music. The install was a piece of cake and the sound quality is great.

Pros: Great sound quality with most of the adjustments you'll need for little refinements.

Cons: The biggest con is that Sony just doesn't get it with extremely annoying "don't forget the faceplate" beep when turning off the ignition. At least give us a way to disable it. At times, I want to replace the unit just for that reason. Also the print on the buttons are too small but once you have them biggie.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The price was pretty good, so sound quality and coolness are about what I expected. I'm happy with that. The downsides are, a user interface that is not very intuitive. I could not have set it up without the manual. And, this is REALLY annoying, every time I turn off the car, the radio goes thru a series of loud beeps. I turned off the beep on key press as shown in the manual, but it still does it. It seems that if I remove the front panel of the radio it does not do it, so I guess this is a reminder to remove the front panel. I have not found anything about this in the manual or online discussions. Supposedly the removable front panel is a security feature, but please... a radio under $100 ? I wish I'd known about this "feature" before buying.

Pros: Good price, appropriately good sound, easy install

Cons: User interface that is not intuitive. Super annoying beep on power down that seems impossible to disable.

Crutchfield always seems to have all the correct adapters for any application. If you can take your old radio out theres no reason you couldnt install this unit. [ konehead  Feb 24, 2015 ]
crutchfield has a wiring adapter for specific vehicles. I can only give info on install for my vehicle, a 1998 Honda civic. I thought that this was going to be a difficult install, but with the wiring adapter and crutchfields install directions, it was fairly easy. [ FRANK A  Feb 23, 2015 ]
If you buy the wiring harness that fits the car you are installing it in it will be easy. it was a plug and play for the car I put it in. I don't remember if they called it an install kit or wiring harness conversion or what but it all just plugged together nicely and it had a faceplate that fit the dash nicely. [ GLEN  Feb 23, 2015 ]

my ipod plugs in with a cable and yes you will need a trim kit [ JAMES  Feb 21, 2014 ]
It comes with a 3.5 headphone jack in the front. so if you use a male to male 3.5 audio cable, then yes you can use your Sony music player. but no USB ports. as far as the trim plate goes I'm not sure. if you searched for audio devises by car the crutch field will suggest exactly what you need. [ TROY  Feb 21, 2014 ]
there are six preset buttons which I believe can be set for fm1, fm2 and am. I have only used the fm1 presets so far. When I bought mine, I entered the make and model of my car and they only referred me to the players that would fit. Mine did require a kit to attach it. The should let you know that. usually an after market head unit provides a lil more power than ur stock radio! [ BRYSON  Dec 15, 2013 ]
Hey Jacob I purchased this for my 2005 Toyota Camry. I have stock speakers and I do hear a difference in the sound. I would recommend getting a receiver with a usb port. I found myself wishing I bought the Sony with it. [ ALVIN  Dec 13, 2013 ]
You will need a wiring harness and likely and installation kit as well. For detailed info on the install in this vehicle feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. [ Jeff  Dec 13, 2013 ]  Staff
