Our take on the Sony Xplōd™ XS-GT5727A

Replace your car's factory speakers with these Sony Xplōd GT Series speakers, and you'll hear the full impact of your music, along with lots of little details you may not have heard before.

Replace your car's factory speakers with these Sony Xplōd GT Series speakers, and you'll hear the full impact of your music, along with lots of little details you may not have heard before.

The XS-GT5727A 5"x7" speakers feature woofer cones made from Highly Oriented Polyolefine, a lightweight material developed by Sony that's especially rigid and strong. Sony reinforces these cones with the same Aramid fibers that are used in bulletproof vests, so they'll stand up to high-volume playback. Each speaker features a 1-7/16" balanced dome tweeter that reproduces lively high notes and adds presence to the instruments and vocals. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

2000 Mercury Mountaineer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A good little speaker that does the job and improves the sound in place of your stock speakers. Produces a cleaner sound over stock, handles highs & lows better than stock. If you want performance, or are critical in terms of your sound, these are not the speakers for you. If you want a crisper, cleaner sound as compared to the factory speakers in an older vehicle, or a plain-jane ordinary factory system - these will be a marked improvement, and ideal for the price. I installed in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with the Ford MACH sound system. The factory speakers are enclosed component speakers (tweeter/woofer). These Sony's out-produce the highs, and are equal to the mid's, and weeker in the low range. I installed them in the front only. I would not swap out the rear speakers with this speaker. Not enough bass. These speakers will work nicely as front speakers, and combo them with a better speaker with a bit more punch in bass for the rear speakers. Overall, they leave me thinking "Not a bad set of speakers for the price, I'm quite pleased". Install was easy, direct fit for my vehicle, no modifications, used existing harware, Crutchfield install sheets were helpful. Wiring harness supplied by Crutchfield did not match, no biggie. I just spliced my connections with wirenuts - a couple extra minutes, no problem.

Pros: Clean sound, easy to install, direct fit, noticeable improvement over factory paper speakers, handles a fair amount of power and remains clean sounding.

Cons: Bass is a little weak. But for the price, I can't complain.

Great speakers for the price. Replaced some smaller aftermarket speakers that I replaced the original speakers with. I needed something bigger that would fit in a small space to get more bass. These do the job for me.

Pros: Easy install good sound for the price

Cons: Nothing that I've found so far

These are good speakers to upgrade from factory. Decent sound for the price, They seem to work best at around 90Hz to 120Hz for the lows, and around 8 to 10 Khz for the highs. So they make good front speakers.

Installation following the provided directions was simple and took maybe an hour total, mostly because I took my time. Once I put things back together, I was really impressed. For speakers this inexpensive I couldn't believe the improvement over the stock speakers. It was well worth it.

Pros: Great sound for the price, installation was simple

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers seem like a great value. I was only looking for a simple upgrade of the stock system, and these fit my needs. Really seemed to increase the range and clarity of the sound. I installed these speakers before I upgraded the head unit and they really came alive with the new head unit. I figure they could be valuable for someone setting up a more custom system on a budget. Definitely a good deal.

Pros: Value Good range Clarity

I put 4 of these in my wife's Focus to replace the 10 year old factory speakers. Aside from the usual frustrations with the door and body panels, they went in great. Very pleased with the sound for the price. They won't rock your socks off but that is not what we expected for the price.

Pros: Great value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have not bought and installed equipment in years, but the front speakers in my wife's explorer were blown, so I bought these to replace them. Great support on Crutchfield.com in the way of choosing the right size, installation instructions and the included wiring harness. It took perhaps 25 minutes and went smoothly - especially for a winter install in CT in January - outside. Good sound, she loves it, and the price was very attractive.

Pros: Superior to factory, easy install, great value.

Cons: I am sure there is better, but not for this price!

Purchased a pair of these Sony's two weeks ago and installed them. They sounded really great and was very easy to install. What a big difference in sound quality from the factory speakers. I purchased another pair to install for the rears. I highly recommend these Sony's if you want to replace your factory speakers and you are on a budget.

Pros: Great sound, great price, and easy to install.

2004 Ford Ranger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased four of these to replace my stock pioneer speakers in my 2004 ranger installation was simple. When I first bought these they could not take too much bass or wattage, but after playing them for a few weeks they are handling more power and are producing more bass. I had a couple friends ask today if i had a subwoofer behind the seat when i pulled up. they do not handle the really low bass notes well. However, I have had several systems and these speakers have really impressed me they do have a clean sound as most have said, but as most have had problems blowing these speakers if you take it easy on these at first and give them a few weeks of breaking in you should not have problems. Crutchfield has been good about customer service and has fast shipping.

Pros: clean sound and after some time has some decent bass and excellent highs and mids

Cons: nothing

Very good speaker.

2000 Dodge Caravan
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One is easily left to assume that the "outfit my car" speaker choices will list a direct replacement for the Infinity speakers on a Dodge. But what it really does is list the speakers that will fit and that's all. The Dodge Infinity sound system is tricky. Therefore modifications have to be made in order for one to use an aftermarket speaker in conjunction with the OEM Infinity system. The OEM Infinity system is a component system and the mid panel and door speakers have bolted crossover networks on them. So my advise for someone that is wanting to replace or upgrade an Infinity system is to get a component system, (which Crutchfield has). Because I have advanced knowledge I was able to make special brackets for the Dodge crossover networks so I could use the Sony XS-GT5727A's. It took a lot of time but well worth it. The Sony's do not have as much bottom punch as the OEM speakers. But the sound quality is good. None of the X-Plod Sony speakers are as heavy or as robust as the Dodge speakers and don't sound any better. This only means that despite what many say about OEM sound systems, in the case of the Dodge Infinity speaker system they are a very good sounding set of speakers.

Pros: The price.

Cons: Cannot be used as a direct replacement to a Dodge Infinity speaker system. But will fit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Though cheap price they are a great sounding speaker. 14 years I have run my stock speakers so you can imagine the difference no matter what I put in. With the Crutchfield free info pack and the wire harness I replaced the speakers in about 30 mins. the front took longer because of having to remove the door panels. Sony, shmony... in the end it is always Crutchfield who rocks !!!! that website was AWESOME it led me right to many choices that would just swap right out, not like the old days of hacking and sawing and spending forever. thanks mates, Grant "The Aussie"

Decent Speakers, with some flaws

Kurt615 from King of Prussia, PA on 6/7/2011

I bought 4 of these speakers for my 1994 Dodge Shadow and theyre are an upgrade from your typical stock speakers however they dont offer much bass. The tweeters are actually quite good, but if youre looking for some kick with the bass i would not recommend these speakers. Also these arent very loud. i was carefull to conserve my speaker life by not blasting my music, but wheni tried to get some bass and volume they failed and blew out. So if you dont want loud bass and sound but are looking for decent quality speakers...these might be for you

These speakers are definitely an upgrade from what was stock in my 02 explorer. With the factory hu they sounded much clearer at high volumes, and at low volumes still sounded good. I upgraded to a sony xplod hu, and that made them sound even better. I would definitely recommend these if you are not looking to break the bank on speakers and just want to upgrade stock speakers in your car for better sound. For the price you definitely get what you pay for.

My 2005 Econoline work van has the stock AM/FM CD radio, with only 2 speakers in the front doors. Back is all shelving and a steel divider between me and the back. All I did was change the stock speakers to the Sony speakers. Very easy change out and WOW the sound is so incredible! Nice tight bass punch and good overall sound.
