Our take on the Sony CDX-GT700HD

The Sony CDX-GT700HD CD receiver combines the ability to play all your favorite media with a built-in HD Radio™ tuner that'll take you to the cutting edge of radio. Plus, you can connect and control your iPod® without having to buy an optional adapter, and you'll even find convenient front panel USB and auxiliary inputs for your portables.

Built-in HD Radio tuner
Tune to an FM or AM station that's broadcasting digital HD Radio signals and you'll enjoy better sound than you've ever experienced on the airwaves, all without static or distortion. You'll also enjoy extra features like additional programming broadcast on secondary or tertiary channels — choices that aren't available to regular radio listeners.

Once you connect your iPod to the CDX-GT700HD, you'll appreciate the convenience of iTunes® tagging. When you hear a song you like on HD Radio, just press a button on the receiver to "tag" it. Song information is saved to your iPod — simply connect your iPod to your computer and go to the Apple iTunes store to buy the song whenever you want.

Find your music files quickly
The CDX-GT700HD boasts an impressive set of controls for navigating through your iPod's music or any MP3, WMA, and AAC files you've burned to disc. Sony's Quick-BrowZer feature lets you search for songs by genre, artist, or album — you just rotate the knob to find the song you want, then push in on the knob to select. The Jump control leaps through your playlist in 10% increments, great if you're dealing with a bunch of files. Switch to passenger control and your passengers can select tunes with the iPod's controls while you concentrate on your driving.

Shape the sound
Sony's DM+ Advanced circuitry restores the details lost when music files are compressed, so you enjoy the best possible sound from your files. The EQ3 Stage 2 equalizer includes eight preset tone curves and a 3-band equalizer for adjusting the lows, mids, and highs. The Dynamic Soundstage Organizer adds presence and life to your music by raising the soundstage up to ear level — the three levels of adjustment let you pick the setting that works best for your car.

Ready for system building
You'll find three sets of preamp outputs for adding external amplifiers or a powered subwoofer. Built-in high- and low-pass filters ensure you send your speakers only the frequencies they're best equipped to handle.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Sony stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the receiver, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    2000 Nissan Frontier
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this item to replace the factory installed radio/cassette deck in my 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup. The price was right for me. I wanted to be able to play my personal selection of music off of a USB flashdrive, which this item offered. Although I've never done it before, installation was much easier than I anticipated, thanks to Crutchfield analyzing what I would need and supplying the proper wiring harness. I called the 800 number tech support and talked to a man who promptly answered my questions clearly. It's not always clear in the printed instructions, so being able to immediately call and talk to a knowledgeable person during the installation was great. I have been enjoying my music every day for several weeks without any problems. Basically you have to learn the many features by trial and error, but it is not difficult to find where things are and which settings I prefer. I will probably upgrade my old speakers at some point, but for now I am very happy with the overall sound I'm getting. Five years from now I hope I can be equally pleased with longevity.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio has good sound. I have an Infinity system in an 2001 Dodge Intrepid. People would say that it was a good system, however, it didn't sound any different than any other radio to me. (factory radio) With the Sony I hear a big different. If you are installing yourself, read and understand the directions and don't match color for color on the wiring. I did and had to re-wire.

    Pros: Good sound.

Cons: A litte hard to understand the instructions.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Puchased this unit and installation kit from crutchfield to upgrade my sons 1999 Chevy Lumina stock factory head unit. He's only 17 years old and thinks this is the coolest birthday present I ever bought for him. Now, we ride around in his car because his stereo is no much cooler than mine. I was amazed at how easy it was to install using the kit and instructions provided by crutchfield for free. I did have to buy a few extra pieces for the install though such as heat shrink butt connectors, a roll of electrical tape, a heavy duty crimper, and a heat gun. I'm looking forward to purchasing another of this same head unit for my 1999 suburban.

Pros: Easy to install, HD radio tuner, IPOD/IPhone interface, available factory connected sub preamp output and 4 mosfet output ports

Cons: Only two color illumination choices, flip down face takes a little practice to figure out how to put it on after removing it

    Excellant tuner - good value

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked the Sony over similar units from Pioneer, JVC, etc. because of the tuner specs and I have not been disappointed. The number of stations it brings in clearly on AM, FM, HD is amazing. The rest of the unit is fine. I like the main control knob but the buttons on the left are pretty small. More input and output options than available on most units in this price range. I'm happy with it.

Pros: Tuner, input and output options

Cons: display doesn't do anything for me but that is not why I bought it some controls a little small and hard to see

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this Sony unit to replace my factory radio/cd player in my 2003 Ford Taurus. The sound quality of this unit blows away the factory unit. The menus are very easy to use and the unit was very easy to program. For under $125, this is an amazing car stereo.

Pros: Ease of use, sound quality, visual appearance.

Cons: Cannot display radio station name and clock at the same time. I feel I need to be extra careful not to break the removable flip down face plate to insert CDs.

I was looking at dual din until I found this unit. For the price, it has all the features I need.

Pros: Great sound quality and features for the price.

Cons: USB limitations. Although a con I've worked around it. Through the USB port, device is limited to 128 albums/folders and 500 tracks per album/folder (64000 tracks total). The track total isn't the issue, its mainly the limited album/folder limit. You have to get creative if you want your entire library to play through the USB port.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased for older vehicle, therefore didn't want to spend to much. More interested in good quality in sound and reception than other options, i.e. chose HD over Bluetooth. Buying from Crutchfield was helpful since the price was good and they supplied almost everything needed for installation, with piece of mind should I have any problems with product or install. Have only had the Radio for a week now but very happy with it. Thought about buying new speakers with the Radio order, then decided to wait and see how it sounded with the OEM speakers. Glad I waited, adjusting the LPF and the HPF along with the LPF REV have given me the sound quality I was hoping to gain without the cost and hassle of putting in new speakers. Also found the DSO adjustments work very well with the convertible, raising same when I put the top down. CD's and HD radio sound great and receive several HD stations in my area. Hence, have not needed to try the USB or AUX functions yet, but nice to have these options when we leave the area. Do not usually take the time to submit reviews, so the fact that I have now shows how pleased I'am with the product and Crutchfield, highly recommend both.

Pros: Sound quality with enough adjustments to customize the sound and look of the unit. Favorite options are the Low and High Pass Filters, LPF Reverse, Dynamic Soundstage Organizer, Auto Scroll, Contrast and Dimmer adjustments

Cons: Wiring instructions were not very helpful to me, called the Tech number to verify a couple of things prior to actually placing the unit in the vehicle. Would have liked a few more color options but the blue for day and the green for nights works well. Reading the small controls is difficult for me but becoming familiar with the unit will take care of that problem.

Easy to use user interface, great sound, great product for the money. CD player doesn't skip like the factory unit would on my country gravel/dirt road. Crutchfield tech support makes DIY install very easy.

    Cons: None thus far.

    Great Sony Receiver

TomT from Charlottesville, Va. on 6/2/2013

The Sony receiver was a real improvement to my factory sound system. The sound quality is great, ability to pick up weak FM stations is very good, and the CD player and Ipod touch USB connection is great.

Pros: Great product and worth the investment. I installed the receiver myself and it was very easy following the instructions and the posi-connectors made the electrical connections easy to hook up.

Cons: The small selector switches are hard to see and use, but only because my eyesight is not what it used to be based on my age (69). I have found the remote is easier to see and use.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have used Sony equipment for 30 years or more and have had generally positive experiences with their gear. This radio builds on the car audio head units I have had over the years. This is my first foray into HD radio and I find that the features and sound quality from this Sony deck is as good as some of the more expensive gear I have bought from Sony before. Since I am fairly well used to the control placement and function on Sony car radios, this one is as easy to use as my others. I really like the option of being able to plug a flash drive directly into the front of the unit and have the deck itself handle the mp3 files. The front mounted aux input is also a welcomed upgrade. Installation was as easy as any other stereo head unit, especially with the Crutchfield installation parts and instructions. The Sony installation documentation is well written and easy to understand. Wiring drawings are concise.

Pros: Front mounted USB port. Front mounted AUX input. HD radio tuner built in and ready to play.

Cons: They can lose that infernal beeping that tells you that the faceplate has been left on after turning the key off. It has been on all the Sony head units I've bought in the last 6 or 8 years and while it may be a security feature, it's an annoyance I can do without on my next Sony head unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just wanted a radio that was digital, had a usb port and had a Sirius port. This radio was one of the least expensive options. The install was simple and quick. Crutchfield instructions and install kit are always top notch. The radio sounds great and is working like a charm. I gave it 5 stars. For the price, this is an awesome radio - I don't really find the cons all that big of a deal.

Pros: Awesome having a usb port in the front of the unit. Allows for decent control of my iPhone and iPod. Also lets us listen to books on tape from a usb dongle. Allows for deep file directory options when naming usb dongle files. Did that make sense?

Cons: Newer radios have a toggle on the volume nob that one uses to access menu options. I seem to always press the volume nob when I reach over to turn the volume up or down. Not really a con for this model as opposed to others, just a pia. I agree with other that the menus are a little un-intuitive. Just takes some getting used to...

I bought this for my 96 Geo Tracker. This is my first HD stereo, and so far I am impressed. The sound is great, and the unit is easy to use. I love the fact that it has a front USB, and aux. input jack. I also believe that Sony receivers are superior to others; they always seem to pick up stations at greater distances. Crutchfield supplied all the necessary small items to install this head unit for free! Installation was extremely easy with the supplied instuctions.

Pros: Sound quality Ease of opperation Front USB Front aux. input

Cons: Does not support Microsoft Zune via USB. However, the Zune can be charged with the USB port while using the front input jack to use.

I love this unit, far better than the factory one in my truck. I am not a kid, so coolness is not big with me. Functionality and performance are all that matter. My only complaint is the same with all aftermarket radios - they have so many features that it is hard for my old eyes to read the text printed on the unit. So there is a learning curve for me before my familiarity can take over.

Pros: Huge number of features, love being able to access so much music on a USB device.

Cons: Almost none - only as I stated above that the small text printed on the controls is difficult for my older eyes to read.

Pros: Being able to control an ipod or flash drive right through the HU. Looks awesome!!

Cons: The green lighting is disappointing. It is not nearly as vibrant as the blue lighting. The green is less harsh at night though. I dislike that every time you revisit the "browZer" you must go back and find the playlist you were in before. it does not just go back into the playlist you are playing music from.

This is my second one of these. The first one went into my Honda Civic some time ago and this one into my wife's Kia Sportage LX. Crutchfield made it super easy for me to install it. They gave me for free, with the purchase, a wiring harness adapter, dashboard trim and an install master sheet. I was kind of concerned about hidden screws etc... but the master install sheet showed me where everything was located in simple easy to follow instructions. The wiring harness adapter was right on and the dashboard trim was a perfect fit. From start to finish I was done in about 30 minutes. This head unit does everything except feed the dog and wash your car. One piece of info the Crutchfield web site left out is that this unit has a BUS input which means it can be hooked up to a Sony source selector and/or a Sony 10 Disc CD Changer in addition to about a million other things. You can't beat the price for what it does. I love the "Zappin" feature but it takes some getting used to. My daughter can play music from her cell phone through the AUX input and it has a built-in Ipod controller. The head unit gives me the choice of the driver or passenger controlling the music from the iPod after it is hooked up. (iPod Classic 6th Gen.) Mainly I use the USB port. I use a 4GB mini flash drive which sits almost flush with face. It sticks up about 1/4 in. from the face and since it is black it fits right in. It stores about 300 songs from my computer. The HD Radio is also a plus.

    Pros:

Cons: Only 2 cons but not a deal breaker. When driving in bright sunlight the face gets washed out and is real hard to see. I tried adjusting the contrast but to no avail. Secondly, You only have a choice of 2 colors for illumination which shows around the large knob and some of the controls on the far left. BLUE is way to bright and distracting at night and does not dim when you turn on your headlights. The only part of the face that dims is the display. The green color is much better.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First let me state that I have had this unit in my vehicle for over 2 years. It was a breeze to install courtesy of the installation guide and pieces provided by Crutchfield (they've never let me down!). Prior to purchasing this receiver I had only purchased Pioneer, although I had tried and tested numerous other offerings by different brands both in this car and in previous cars as well. That being said, I originally purchased this receiver because it had 1) USB port, 2) HD Radio, 3) Buttons instead of a knob to adio stations, etc, 4) sub input, and 5) value. I have been very satisfied with my purchase, but there are some 'cons' to consider as well. PROS : - The USB port is extremely useful, not only to use an MP3 player through, but it can also charge your phone in a pinch! Being able to control the mp3 player and select songs, etc directly from the receiver is quite convenient. If you don't have a USB cord handy, you can use the AUX-in jack which is great, though obviously this method requires you to use the attached source to navigate your music. - I've never had any problems with the CD player and it does very well in relatively bumpy terrain, having only skipped a few times over the years. - As expected, the buttons are extremely convenient when wanting to switch between radio stations. Much easier to navigate than a knob which many other receivers have started using (see Cons too)

Pros: ADDITIONAL PROS : (ran out of space) - It's remarkably easy to change the level of subwoofer bass via the sub level input. - HD radio, when in range, adds more radio stations if available in your area - I purchased this a few years ago, and for the price I'd say this is still a great value! - Color schemes are cool, though I stick with green because it's easier on the eyes during night driving (also matches better). I'm 28, not 60, and blue is wayy too bright @

Cons: CONS : - The most heavily used radio buttons have become hard to press / unresponsive. I expected this to happen eventually, but NOT so soon. - HD radio can be extremely annoying at times. While some stations sound better in HD, others sound worse due to diminishing quality to squeeze more stations on the same frequency. Worse, HD will simply cut-out instead of becoming more 'static-y' like normal radio. I wish I could disable it sometimes when I'm on the fringe of the stations' range.

Very good unit for the money. Improved sound quality vs my old factory radio, especially on the HD radio stations. Love the USB input for ipod, which also charges when connected. Crutchfield tech support was top notch, making installation pretty easy.

Pros: Decent sound quality, remote control easy to operate, looks cool.

Cons: Some controls on the radio are a little confusing to operate, but this is probably just a matter of getting used to.

Pros: Sound is as good as it gets, radio really pull's in weak stations. Plays every type of media I could ever want to use and in a manner one would be very hard preesed to out do at twice the price.

Cons: None any, well maybe the smallish buttons and longish delay in start up with radio or media, worth the wait though once the sound kicks in.

After 12 years of the stock radio, I used a blown speaker as an excuse to replace the head unit with this one. Overall, I'm impressed with the sound, the look and the features of the unit. They could always put more features (bluetooth, anyone?) in, but at this price I'm happy.

Pros: No CD slot means more display area. Good sound options with plenty of ways to tweak what comes out of the speakers. Look and feel says quality.

Cons: Controls and menus aren't as intuitive as some I've seen, but once you read the manual it's easy enough to remember how to get where you want to go.

So far I am really happy with this head-unit. When I first saw this head-unit I knew I had to get it. I am still impressed with how awesome this thing looks. In my opinion it looks so unique compared to other head-units. The light behind the volume scroller just makes this thing pop. The HD Radio is cool and all but there is only one radio station in my area that broadcasts HD Radio. Supposedly there are only 2000 radio stations across the United States that broadcasts HD Radio. If HD Radio starts to get bigger in the future, the built in HD Radio in this unit will be an awesome feature, but for now its just kind of a "cool idea" and not much more. I really like the large display on this unit compared to other single-din displays. I will rarely use the actual cd-player, so hiding it behind the faceplate to give more room for the display is fine by me. Zappin can be useful when I want to make sure I keep my eyes on the road and is basically just a scroll button for your iPod (when it is plugged in the USB port). The USB port is very useful. Of course these days USB ports are basically a normality but compared to some other USB ports, this one DOES charge your iPod while plugged in. If it didn't I would have been very upset. When reading online about how to navigate this unit, it is a much more complicated than when you actually start navigating it. I've had to refer to the directions a few times but overall it is very easy to navigate the unit. Overall, very satisfied!!!

Pros: Large front display with cd player hidden behind faceplate. Easy to use. Looks really slick.

    Cons: No Bluetooth

In general it has been a good unit for me. I love having the HD Radio and yes, there is a delay between tuning the station and it switching to HD radio and then being able to tune to the HD sub-channels. I use the USB all the time for iPod connection and once you learn the interface it works just fine. I also use the aux connector to connect to my Android-based phone and the portable DVD players the kids use on long trips. I saw several reviews complaining about the display brightness and I'm guessing they haven't read the manual to find the settings for the auto-dimming when the headlights are on, or changing it to green. I do wish it had a few other colors to try, but this is fine. My main issue with the unit was that it died yesterday after nearly two years of service. I'm guessing it overheated or something, but it is now quite dead. But the quality, price and performance of the unit until yesterday has been wonderful, so I'll be ordering the same thing as a replacement. Make the installation of the new unit a lot easier. :) I'm even considering one for my wife's car, mostly because of the HD, USB and aux connectors.

Pros: Inexpensive HD radio built-in USB / iPod control and aux connectors on the front work well

Cons: Why on earth do you need a remote control in a car?? Aren't you right there?? Display could be better, not sure why they still use discrete elements for the letters instead of a matrix. Be nice if it tuned HD faster, or if you could preset to HD, but the HD works well otherwise.

Always been a huge Sony car audio person and Sony hasn't disappointed me yet. Had my last head unit since 2004 and it just recently " gave it up". Found the CDX GT700HD for an amazing price. Head unit plug from my last unit plugged right into new unit with out having to cut or change anything. The new unit pro forms just as we'll as he last and hopefully just as long. Would definitely recommend this unit.

Pros: Uses the same head unit plug as well as all inputs and outputs as old unit if swapping to another Sony unit even after 8 yrs. Easy to navigate and operate. Great audio control .

Cons: As mentioned before the blue display is quit intense but I've always preferred green myself

Having a couple weeks to play with this, I can say that I am very pleased. You really do get a lot for your money. Mind you though, It is missing some of the frills of the more costlier units out there, like Bluetooth, or to be able to use the device to make calls thorough your connected iPhone, which I suppose goes hand in hand with Bluetooth. Installation was a breeze, the only thing that really took my time was wiring up the harness, which took about 15 minutes. The build quality of this Sony is amazing. Just holding the unit or the faceplate, and you'll notice that this is definitely not cheaply made. Clean song, with a lot of sound customizations to play with, such as the DSO, which made my cheap, factory speakers come to life! You also have the ability to control your iPod or iPhone directly from the unit itself, which is nice when you have your iDevice tucked away in a glove box. The HD radio is also neat to have, with the clear digital reception, and the ability to see on the screen the artist, album, or any other info on the music playing that the station puts out in their HD stream. Of course, there are some HD stations that put out no info at all. I put it at 4 stars on ease of use just due to controlling your iDevice from the unit is not super straight forward, and it uses the radio preset buttons to accomplish some of the tasks, which can be a bit frustrating when driving and the labels on the little buttons are hard to read. All in all, good buy.

Pros: HD Radio, Remote, Sub Output, HPF and LPF filters, detachable Face, Powerful Sound, Plenty Audio Customizations and it's a Sony!

Cons: Small radio preset buttons that have multiple functions which can be hard to read.

I bought this unit for two reasons: 1) I think Sony has the best radio tuners out there, and 2) this unit has built-in HD radio for less than the cost of the HD radio add-on tuner. I don't think you can beat this receiver for value. It's the last unit with CD changer controls, works with the XA-120IP iPod adapter and add-on satellite radio tuners, and has both an aux input *plus* a USB input right there on the faceplate. It has the basic segmented alphanumeric display instead of fancy graphics, but this is one of the things keeping the price down. Unless you can't live without an animated screen display, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Backwards compatible with almost all Unilink devices, allows both HD and satellite radio AND an iPod all connected at the same time, excellent radio tuner, built-in CD player.

Cons: EQ is only 3-band (plus loudness); panel only lights up in 2 colors (blue or green) -- otherwise I would have given sound quality and coolnees factor a 5 instead of a 4.

I bought this especially so I could put music and podcasts on a USB flash drive and pop it into the stereo for a long commute. Works perfectly, easily controls the flash drive and shows the name of each item on the screen. You can quickly scroll through the MP3's of various kinds, and it doesn't have problems with or even display any files that aren't usable on a stereo (like Word documents, etc.) Easy to see the screen. Still a bunch of features I'll eventually have to learn how to use, but for now, it sounds good, tunes in stations well in our relatively remote area, and controls a flash drive well with no effort. Installation does require connecting a lot of wires to the adaptor. Front panel doesn't feel super-sturdy, but certainly doesn't feel like its about to fall off or super-cheap, either.

Pros: Easy to use a flash drive full of music and podcasts

Cons: Installation not for an absolute beginner.

I replaced the original XM radio in our RV with the Sony CDX-GT700HD unit. We didn't want the hassel of transfering the XM service from our car to the RV everytime we went camping nor did we want the added expense of another XM service contract. So we opted for the Sony unit that offers the Ipod solution which has proven to be the perfect application for us. We get the AM/FM (with added HD element) as well as uninturpted music of our choice via the Ipod.

Pros: Low cost solution to access our favorite uninturpted music. Better looking unit than the original OEM unit.

The reception on my factory Honda radio sucked. I bought this unit as a replacement for it. The reception is indeed better, but would be even more improved with the addition of an external antenna. I don't know if my wife will allow that. The sound quality isn't great, but that's probably a function of the factory speakers. (Why you'd put a $100 factory radio in a $20,000 car is beyond me.) In any event, if you want booming bass, you'll need an external amplifier. It also comes with a removable front plate (for anti-theft). Build quality? I haven't owned it long enough to know. (So far the front anti-theft plate isn't coming off.)

Pros: Good radio reception (that's what I bought it for). Also has CD player and a USB connection for home generated play lists.

Cons: The front is so shiney, it make the display difficult to read. The display doesn't adjust to make it as bright as it should be. The OFF button and Volume are the only controls whose functions are obvious, all the rest require a learning curve (Hint: You turn it on with the SELECT button).

    - worked well for just over a year. functions easy to navigate through. easy to change songs, stations, volume, etc. BUT, unit failed one day when snapping on the face plate, like i do every morning on the way to work. one day it's fine, the next, it won't come out of "demo" mode and Crutchfield tech support says it's now a paperweight. all in all, TERRIBLE build quality. this unit is not supposed to fail, when performing an advertised feature, of removing and re-attaching the faceplate.

Pros: - looks cool, and produces great sound.

Cons: - didn't last very long, and a waste of my money. since this is now the third SONY unit that has failed on me over the years, i won't be buying their products again. their build quality is on the decline.

This Sony HD radio is very nice. The big display is a plus in bright sunlight, but the combined volume/function dial means I often get kicked into the sound control menu when I just wanted to raise or lower the volume. The little remote that comes with this radio allows volume, track and channel changes, so I should get used to using that instead when on the road. Sound quality is superb. It has an ambiance setting which, with rear speakers (I installed these to improve the poor door speakers in my Nissan Frontier), makes an amazing soundstage. How do they do that? Wow. Very nice that a USB flashdrive can be popped into the unit -- I have 8 gigs of jazz ready at all times. A real plus when the trash talk and obnoxious ads on the radio overwhelms. HD radio works great and sounds great.

I bought this and I was a little concerned as some of the reviews stated low power and I drive a noisy Chrysler 2005 T&C. After I installed it along with the replacement front door speakers, I found the sound level is more than enough for my use. I can turn it up to too loud even on the quiet pieces. Another concern I had after I read a few reviews was the display was not adjustable - background too bright. While I found the blue just right for I bright day, it is really annoying a night, too bright, however if I switch to the green it is just right for nighttime viewing. So I use blue for day and green for night and problem solved. I really like the sound spaciousness when I set them from the audio menu. I do find the single knob control a little cumbersome/confusing to use, but this is not a big deal as I set it out before I start driving and you don't need to make changes while driving so it is another problem solved. Overall I am glad I purchased this receiver. The price made me a little wary, but I need not have been, because I feel I got more than I paid for. The only thing I would have liked to have is hands free Bluetooth and I could not find one that would have AM/FM; CD; HD;USB; and all of the sound conditioning and blue tooth at this price or even higher. Thank for a great product Sony.

I put this unit in my daughter Jeep. I had pre-wired it prior to taking it to her house. This thing took me twenty minutes at the most. Crutchfield provided everything I needed for the install. I have had it in for about a week, great quality of sound. The navigating and adjusting of the stereo, weither it is the speaker outputs or the navigationg of input source isnt the easiest that Sony has come up with. The buttons are somewhat small and cludered but it does come with a remote, which is a life saver if you do alot of driving. Unlike one reviewer, I have had no problem with visibility of the display during the day, but that may also result in the vehicle its in. Their are a many stereos out there but this one has been a good bang for the buck to me. I shopped around and you may find the price maybe 10 bucks less but you still have to buy the adapters and install kits, which equals more than here. First purchase with Crutchfield and loved the fact everything I needed, the wiring harness, dash kit and everything was included in the price of the stereo. I will definitly buy my stereo stuff here from now on.

Pros: Value, Sound, Pretty cool, has remote, and you know quality is there, its a Sony isnt it?

First off, I want to say that I ordered this unit yesterday, President's Day, at around noon. I had it completely installed and set up by 3:00p.m. today! Hats off to Crutchfields and UPS. OK, it sounds a lot better then the factory unit that it replaced in my 1999 Ranger. The radio gets better reception, and the HD is terrific here. The CD player sounds great. I hooked it up to my iPad and though pretty clunky to navigate with it, it sounds great. I haven't tried it with an iPod yet. There is virtually no distortion in either mode. Now, I also hooked up XM Radio via an older Delphi Roady XT and run it through the front auxiliary jack. This was a major reason why I bought this unit. The Roady had transmitted via the cassette deck on the factory unit and the deck died. I incorrectly thought that I could run the Roady in a source jack in the back. No big deal. Anyway, after setting the volume switchover control the Roady sounds better then it ever did. So in summary, I'm thrilled with the sound quality of the FM/HD tuner, CD, iPad, and the XM peripheral. Installation was a breeze, though I'm glad that I called Crutchfield's support line about the dimmer wire when I was connecting the harness. It saved me a lot of time. The set up took more time then the installation. There's too much information, but it's done, and I think I've got all the pertinent info down pat. I don't like the faceplate, it feels cheap. I also don't like the fold down step for the CD, but no big deal.

Pros: Value, sound quality, features. The display light issues that others fussed about don't bother me.

Cons: As stated above, I'm not crazy about the faceplate arrangement, but I rarely listen to CD's anymore so it probably won't be much of an issue. The beeping when you turn off your ignition is an irritation, but I can live with it. Also, everything really is crammed in, but what're gonna do with something that has so many features?

I was amazed at how incredible my 8 year old stock speakers sounded in my F-250 truck with this receiver. I was fully anticipating needing to replace them but this receiver breathed new life into them. This unit is extremely easy to install and the directions for use are easy as well. You won't be disappointed with this unit! Also, Crutchfield is so easy to deal with - I don't even bother with retail stores anymore - Crutchfield has all my electronic business.

Well you have tiny fingers then this is for you. I drive at night an the search button is next to the source button and while lessening to my iPod I will hit the source button instead of the seek button. Now I have fm music playing. Taking my eyes off the road to find the source button again to find the iPod again made me frustrated.

Pros: Nice volume knob solid feel . Synced with the iPod easily

Cons: Tiny buttons all in one area makes selections difficult. Looking to get an Alpine and try that, the buttons are much larger.

Really easy to use system and solid with decent sound. My only complaint was not being able to tone down the colored light on the system. The blue was way to bright. I changed it to the only other option of green just to tone it down. I would recommend and buy again. I like the flip down face to put the cd in. It makes for bigger letters on the screen. Getting around the menu is easy. Input from ipod/iphone works great and lets you control through the stereo. I have not yet tried just a USB drive.

Pros: Everything worked, easy to navigate.

Cons: 2 colors lights to choose from and the blue is really bright.

My 99 Silverado is great in every dept except for the sound system. It needed an update and when I found Crutchfield, the process to find the perfect unit was a breeze. So easy, I was worried. However when I received the unit the hardest part was splicing the wires from the harness adapter onto the new unit. Other than that, it was maybe an hour to install. The HD radio is AMAZING and the USB connector is a MUST HAVE- the headphone jack sound quality is 3rd world in comparison to the USB (which is a straight digital connection into the unit)teh ability to control my iPod via the unit or on my iPod is cool too. This is my only negative: Navigating through playlists, songs, artists, albums is a bit cryptic and takes some serious reading of the manual. Its not at all intuitive. Other than that- PLENTY of power, sound shaping options, and everything is AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!

    Pros: Everything but...

Cons: ... iPod navigation using the head unit.

I liked this CD receiver and had no problems with it for about a year. Now, every time I remove the faceplate the receiver completely locks up and I have to reset it using the reset button. This of course removes all of your settings, including changing the nice green lighting color back to the ridiculously blinding blue. The last time it happened, the "Off" button was acting as if it were the "Source" button and I couldn't even turn the thing off to set the clock. A very frustrating experience.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to replace an Alpine with Sirius and couldn't be more satisfied. It cost less than a yearly subcription rate and this unit doesn't need to warm up like the Alpine does in order to function and respond to any buttons being pushed. The sound provided out of the box is full, not tinny like the Alpine and the HD offers so many more options to music listening. The USB input is fantastic, I load my Cruzer drive with all kinds of material and it sees all of it and is easy to operate. The different colored buttons only affects the left side of the unit and is really just a gimmick, it has nothing to do with the Main display. There is a slight delay when you tune into a station as it loads the HD, it doesn't directly tune to an HD station. I don't know if this is standard, but it wasn't expected (no big deal just wasn't aware). The HD sound is so much better than Sat Radio, more like CD sound as opposed to compressed mud. If you are looking for a reasonable priced replacement with HD then this is the unit. I don't have a smart phone so there isn't a need for a unit with any phone features supported. Installed into a 2001 GMC Sierra, 20 minutes prepping in the house and under 10 sitting in my truck.

Pros: HD built in, fantastic sound, Front USB and Aux in. Easy to install and operate.

Cons: Does not display the clock and station ID at the same time. Cannot assign HD station to a number button.

I sacrificed some RMS power for the user friendly interface and built in HD radio feature. You can't tell the difference.(This unit has 17 RMS vs 20 RMS in some other ones) Some other good units like Kenwood had 20 RMS but bad user friendly reviews and no built in HD radio tuner. I have played with unfriendly head unit menus/controls and it is not fun.

This stereo is fantastic for the money. The installation was easy and relatively quick, even after I screwed up and cut the wrong cable (which reminds me, ALWAYS give them a call if you're even mildly unsure of something). A lot of people here say it's too dark on the screen, but there is a menu option to turn the dimmer off, that's what I elected to do and it looks bright enough for me now. The sound quality is great, minus the HD Radio lag. But I use the USB function more than anything. My only complaint is that I can't find a way to make it shuffle by song instead of artist or album. But I might just be overlooking something. Overall, I give it a 4.75/5.

Pros: Ease of install, Looks, Sound, Price.

Cons: Confusing menus, No 'shuffle by song' option (that I can find)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome product. I was torn between the Sony HD Radio or the Bluetooth decks (it makes no sense to me why they don't make a deck with both). But the HD was definitely the way to go. Plugging in my phone to the 3.5mm jack is a small price to pay for the expanded channels and much, much clearer signals coming from the radio stations. The HD also boosts the signal so I can clearly hear stations from Boulder and I don't loose my signal downtown or in some shorter tunnels.

Pros: Very easy to use and looks great. HD radio is now one of my favorite things. Regular radio in other people's cars is almost unlistenable now because I've been so spoiled in my car!

Cons: The blue lighting option is distractingly bright. The green doesn't look bad, but the blue would look better if it weren't so bright.

For a low priced unit with good features this is a great value, but a couple ergonomic issues leave room for improvement.

Pros: Great value from Crutchfield! HD Radio, iPod compatible, and easy installation with included kit.

Cons: I have two issues with this unit. The first one is the illumination of the faceplate; the LCD screen itself dims when the lights are turned on but the remainder of the faceplate remains at full brightness. Why Sony, WHY? Also, the clock cannot be displayed at the same time as the station data.

Installed this radio to replace my broken pioneer. Takes a few min to get used to the controls but it wasnt complicated. First off the radio display is very nice and bright. It does dim down at night but may be two bright for some peoples tastes. The unit has very good sound overall that is easy to adjust. This is my first HD radio so the added channels are nice and the Rds in HD is nice. Very nice radio for the money. The Hd reception is not great so if u live in the country you may miss out on some channels or it may cut out, though this is not the radios fault. Also the highs in Hd mode sound tinny, kinda like you would here in sat radio though not as bad, it seems that certain channels are worse than others. The radio RDS only scrolls once then stops, If you wanna see the whole song tittle again have to keep hitting scroll button. I really miss th 4volt amp preouts which this radio does not have. You have to crank the gain up on amp and set the sub db at max on the radio.I wish it had rear aux and usb so one could hid the wires.Im not trying to down the radio it is very nice and sounds great, I would highly recommend it.

This was a long overdue upgrade to a 6 year old Sony head unit. This unit has a built-in HD Tuner, USB interface, Ipod Controller which my older one did not have. Easy to install, partly because the old Sony unit and the new unit had identical wiring harnesses. The only thing my older unit had that this one didn't, was 4 volt preamp outputs. I really love the ability to play music from a flash drive and the Ipod controls. Until I started to use them I hadn't realize how much I missed them. I found this unit very easy to use after I did my initial setup. Only 2 cons. There is a choice of Blue or Green illumination colors. The Blue one is way to bright at night and very distracting. For this reason I use the Green color. The illumination color does not dim with the dimmer control. The other is the face plate gets washed out in bright sunlight which makes it very hard to read. Dispite these short commings I still would highly recommend this unit.

I'm much of an echo of past reviews. Great sounding radio, especially in HD mode. Plenty of power which is needed at times to cut through road noise in a big American van like mine. Wonderful to have plenty of presets on both FM and AM. My only reason for 4 stars is having small controls and the challenges of programming it. My normal test is to see how much I can do without resorting to the manual/documentation. That's neither easy or very intuitive and I'm looking for the manual to get rid of the annoying/distracting demo mode for starters. Kudos to Crutchfield for prompt delivery and a perfect installation package. I had a professional do it for me and he praised it too - no need to fabricate anything.

Bought this unit so I can use my old iPod 5th gen in my car, and also for the HD Radio. This is my first car stereo with iPod control, and I have to say, this is waaay better than attaching the iPod to an FM transmitter so you can listen to it in the car. The HD radio is awesome. The sound is crystal clear, and the ability to tag a song and download to my daughter's iPod touch sold my wife to this thing. The controls are not too intuitive (I had to read the manual twice). But then again, I've been used to the stock radio all my life, so what do I know? Also, the blue lighting is too bright at night -- I had to switch to the green illumination which is not too bright (and less distracting). I wish you can adjust the brightness. Some people (including me) may also have problems viewing the display in bright sunlight. This is after the contrast was adjusted to maximum. In any case, these are minor annoyances that should not preclude you from enjoying this thing. Btw, I installed this in my 2002 Honda Odyssey. If you are planning to install in this vehicle, do yourself a favor and don't use the in-dash kit provided by Crutchfield for free. It's basically worthless (and you can check out the reviews if you don't believe me). Sorry Crutchfield. But you still rock. I recently bought this HD receiver...Sony Xplod CDX-GT700HD... and I would say that I am very pleased with the sound quality it delivers from radio tuner, CD (Audio & MP3), iPod. I bought it specifically to hear HD radio, HD2 frequency 105.9 meant for online Indian Music. Great sound quality, controls are easy to learn - if you use it couple of times, you will learn it eventually. On bright day/sun light, display is not very clear though - but is very secondary for me... just a point to make. There are two flavors on illuminating light (Green / Blue)... pretty good. Installation - Since I have Honda Accord 2000 V6, it took me 2 hours to open the panel and take out the existing 2 DIN system out. Wiring Harness - Crutchfield provided wiring harness device with easy installation to join the wires between hd receiver and wiring harness device for connecting to car receiver. Joining wiring harness took me another 30 minutes, and then finally the installation into the car took another 30 minutes. Overall installation experience is pretty good. ONE PROBLEM - I have volume controls and changing Audio Channels in the steering which is NOT connected. There is no coloring wire for the connection. May be there is a support using different wiring harness but it isn't provided by Crutchfield. If you have steering controls, choose / ask for very specific wiring harness otherwise steering volume/channel controls wouldn't work. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

You can put your MP3 music files on CDs and use the CD player which is neatly tucked away behind the faceplate/display. The pre- programmed equalizer modes setting are all customizable. Great head unit and easy to install but a few annoyances. You can change the brightness of the graphics screen but not the buttons and it's the buttons that are too bright at night in my opinion. It produces a weird series of beeps when you turn your ignition off while the unit was on. I found how to turn off the other beeps but not these. A little disappointed that there are only two button lighting colors... green and blue. The green is dimmer and so i use it now so it's not to bright at night. And you can only choose equalizer graphics or this other graphics pattern to show on your display. I was hoping for more graphic patters. The instruction manual is good but the info. on how to operate the HD function of the unit is vague at best. THE GOOD stuff is it looks great and I feel the buttons are logically placed and the volume knob has a grippy type surface for easy turning. The unit also seems and feels well built. Other than the small issues I love this unit. It has all the features I was looking for.

Loving this radio so far - only real issue is that it doesn't pick up much in the way of HD signals. This is most likely due to my location - hopefully the closer I get to cities, the HD signals will pick up stronger. Love the look and quality - just wish it would also interface with Zune instead of having to use AUX.

This is my 4th Sony receiver in a row and it continues the reputation of having excellent sound and features, especially for the money The only problem I have is with the HD radio section, which was one of the main reasons I bought this receiver.. The biggest problem is a strange sort of high frequency ringing or sibilance that you really notice on the AM talk stations, but on some of the FM music stations it is also noticeable, sometimes it's not there at all, but it is not at all "CD quality" sound that I expected. I noticed some people reviewed this receiver as not having as strong bass on HD, but I think it's actually too much treble that is the problem. I feel most of this problem is with the HD broadcasts them selves and not the receiver, but it is annoying nonetheless. The only other problem is reception. This receiver has the best FM sensitivity of any of the HD units, but in my area I still have a problem with the HD fading in and out which can be annoying when you can hear the switch from regular broadcast to HD, which isn't too bad with FM but makes AM almost unlistenable due to the difference in sound. . Once again I think this has alot to do with the HD broadcast which I also think sounds "colored " on alot of stations. It is nice having the extra broadcasts for each station though

I've had this radio for a year now and it doesn't disappoint! I totally agree with the glowing reviews here so I won't add anything new - just read other positive comments. One thing I will say that the manual barely touches upon is this: DO NOT REMOVE ANY USB FLASH DRIVE FROM THE RADIO WHILE IT'S PLAYING! PLEASE ENSURE THE RADIO IS TOTALLY TURNED OFF BEFORE YOU TAKE THE USB FLASH DRIVE OUT!! If you don't then bad things will happen to the radio! Trust me, it happened to me and I had to get it repaired. I needed to put that in CAPS to get the point across, I didn't see anyone else mention it. By all means if you want to own a Sony radio receiver for your car, truck or boat, and want to add HD Radio, then by all means get this incredible radio!

Had this radio installed a week ago, and I must say it has the best sound to it. I have it hooked up with my Infinity speakers and this thing, even without an amp sounds good. I will be putting a 4 channel amp in soon, and Im sure I will love it even more. Like some, the display is a little dark, but you just have to adjust the contrast a little and it's ok. Some people dont like the beeper when you turn the car off. Just turn the beeper off. All in all, a great buy!!

I regret my decision to buy this stero every single day!! You CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT read the display. Even if you select turning the dimmer "off", it doesn't help at all. You can't read what the station is, you can't read what track a CD is on etc... I made a stupid decision and thought the blue knob was cool. But what good is it when nothing else lights up? This is the worse product I have ever purchased and now I'm stuck with it since it's already been installed.

This is a very good HD radio for the money. All the features one could want is included for someone not wanting to break the bank. I own two of these and although it has a disc player, the usb port is all i use. I mean come on.....who carries discs around anymore? I have a 2gig media storage device that is easily transported from my jeep to my sport trac with tons of music for the ride. Although Birmingham only has a few HD channels I'm sure there will eventually be more and i will already be equipped. The only thing that is annoying is the small presets for changing stations but the handy remote takes care of that. Highly recommend !

First of all, Crutchfield is awesome when it comes to shipping and support. Got the radio two days after online purchase. Came complete with all the instructions and mounting hardware promised. Install was a breeze and fit perfectly. Radio has performed well so far, sonic quality definitely a marked improvement over stock radio. Was hoping to be able to pull more HD stations in my area but that should increase over time. All in all a great radio, would recommend.

This Stereo produces great sound for me. I have aftermarket speakers and dual 12in Infinity Reference subs. The sound is terrific. The options to control the subs and fine tune the sound is perfect. I hate that it switches between HD/FM so frequently. I wish there was just a way to turn the HD radio off when I don't want to use it. The constant switching mixed with the radio stations having the music not synced is driving me crazy!! Pros: Nice look USB connection Connect multiple Amplifiers Reads MP3,WMA Radio Data System Cons: Constantly switching of HD/FM when driving Annoying beeping while Car is off (To tell you to remove the faceplate) All in all I would absolutely recommend this product. I was very pleased with the looks of the radio. Very easy to install with the info sent from Crutchfield. Pros: The USB works great and the CD player works excellent also. I have not tried the front AUX input as I do not have an IPOD to pug in and with the USB I don't see the need. Cons: The USB sticks out to far and you will hit it. It is only a matter of time. I wish there was a shorter USB stick to choose from. But this is not the Radios fault. The USB takes a few seconds to read but other than that no issues with the radio. If you are looking for a good unit to hook up in your vehicle for a good price then this is the one for you.

Better than my factory 2003 Focus 'Audiophile' radio

Pete G. from Plymouth, MI on 5/17/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Good: FM sensitivity is good, quite a bit better than my factory radio Sound quality is very good on most sources, though AM sound was not as good as most other radios I've heard, even given low expectations for AM sound HD feature works well, and found many HD stations in metro Detroit area. Controls are easy to use, station presets are tiny but what can you do? I was able to connect the factory Ford subwoofer amplifier, including the 12V signal that turns the amp on/off, and it sounds great My factory radio was the top option, and was labelled "Audiophile" on the face, but this Sony sounds a bit better than the factory radio, plus now I can play MP3s and plug in a flash drive. Hope it lasts longer, because two of those developed failed disc changer mechanisms. It only has two lighting colors, blue and green, but the green is a perfect match for the Focus instrument panel color. The blue is quite bright, the green is dimmer, but still works well in the dark. The Bad: The presets don't save HD stations. If a station transmits two separate HD signals, and you save them to two separate preset buttons, then use the button to try to get back to the HD signal, you will find that both presets will tune the radio to the same basic station frequency, not to the two separate HD signals.

Nice sound, lots of features, somewhat easy to navigate screens. Biggest problem is with the receiver, Long ANNOYING, silent/dead space when reception is just outside range in Digital receiver mode. Living 30. minutes outside Pittsburgh, this makes for completely frustrating commute. Why can't Sony eliminate this dead space? Makes me not want to use the feature at all. Also, when not in Digital Mode, there's a lot of static that transmits to speakers. Much more so than my JVC receiver this unit replaced. If this is considered 'normal' & not repairable, this will be returned and my last Sony. Big disappointment.

The unit is very easy to use and looks great in my dash, i particularly like the option to play my music via a flash drive, i may never listen to the radio again. I didi lose reception on a couple of radio stations that i like but i suppose that is due to the meager wattage the radio station puts out because i can barely pick them up on my boom box as well.

I Bought this because i was really interested in the HD ability. The reciever works well and picks up lots of stations and they come in crystal clear also added a nice bit of style to my dash board. Only complaint i have and its about the reciever is that the hd stations do not have as much bass and good sound as the regular channels. over all a great reciever. But if ur looking for more bass i would go with a different sony reciver not the hd item here. One con is that there is no way that i have found to just listen to the station without hd as soon as the reciever picks up the HD station thats what ur stuck with.

This unit replaced the factory head unit on my 09 Nissan Frontier. Excellent value and very pleased with the receiver's HD and CD performance. I haven't yet tested the USB side with a device intended for use there i.e USB drive or iPod/iPhone, but I did test an iPad with mostly favorable results. A big caveat here is that the iPad is not advertised or intended to work with this unit, so the fact it works at all with iPad is a big bonus. Installation went well; the pin-outs on the wiring sheet matched right up to the factory harness adapter, and the details on handling the factory environmental control unit were also spot-on. However, the Metra console adapter included with the kit leaves something to be deisred; I'll review that separately as the Metra is an optional kit, but neccessary as the factory console plate is proprietary and will not work with aftermarket units. Overall, crutchfield's instructions are top-notch as usual and customer support is the world class standard as far as I'm concerned.

Very nice radio. Bought a second for my wife. One detraction, the LCD display is a bit hard to read in my installation. Turns out if you are looking slightly down on the radio (could see the top of it if it were not for the car parts) the display is fine. If however the radio sits high and the face is angled more toward the ceiling (could see the bottom of it if it were not for the car parts) the display is dim, even with the contrast all the way up. Also, the polarization is a mismatch for my sunglasses so that makes it very hard to read the display. Not sure how this compares with other radios. iPod (iPhone 3GS) interface works great! HD radio cuts in after a little while on the station but that just changes the tone - no lost sound during the switch.

Well, I decided to go with this radio due to the built in HD Radio, but I wish I hadn't. No fault to the radio, when I drive to a city it works great! But in my town we border several HD station's maximum ranges. And since HD Radio doesn't have static it just switches to the regular radio station. There is usually a 2-10 second time difference in song, as well as much more bass on the non-HD signal(this is good). So besides that lets review the good things: - Preset Buttons! Good thing =) 3xFM, Lots of Presets, Really Good Thing! - Two Colors, Green for night driving less bright, Blue otherwise, Cool! - 6x Preamp RCA Outputs =O Godlike! I ran a separate RCA cable to each of my amplifiers and the two subwoofer and 4 channel door speaker RCAs were very helpful. - Many 3band EQ settings and a custom one if you want it. you can also boost the power going to the subwoofer by + or - 10db. - Easy Install with Crutchfield tools, only had to solder a handful of wires and they were all color coded

This Sony, along with four Kenwood tri-axial speakers, replaced the Jensen system that was in my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The factory system had lost one channel and the speakers showed a lot of weather damage. What an improvement! Because of the free included adaptors, the installation took about two hours, including the time to solder and shrink-wrap the radio connector. The included instructions were reasonably accurate, but two more screws not mentioned in the instructions had to be removed from the front doors. Between this error and no instructions about what hardware to use for mounting the speakers to the door adapters slowed me down a bit. Minor problems..... I especially enjoy the USB port for a flash drive or my iPod, with the ability to control these items from the front panel. The additional mini jack is perfect for my external Sirius tuner, too. I've ordered many items from Crutchfield over the years and have always been pleased with the friendly service, great return policy, free shipping and wonderful tech support. So far this radio has worked well, it does everything it is advertised to do including the built in HD radio; the clarity of the audio is much better than the radio it replaced. I have it connected to an external power amp that drives all the speakers in my motor home. It was easy to install, I used a Ford installation kit to fit the hole the old radio used to fit into. I also have the Sirius Radio unit installed and that works well; I did have to purchase an antenna for the Sirius radio that does not require the metal plate for the small puck sized antenna that came with the Sirius radio. The only complaint I have with radio is the display is not a full graphics display i.e. the characters that scroll acoss the display move across fixed character positions instead of the smooth scrolling you would get with a graphics display; the graphics display would be better if you were watching a stock ticker streaming. The only other thing I have not mastered is how to tune the Sirius Radio w/o seeking across all the channels, I assume there is another way that I have not found yet. In the end, the memory buttons will solve that tuning issue.

I really like this stereo. It has everything you need. AM/FM/HD, CD/MP3/iPod/iPhone, Audio Text Display/Tagging, and remote. I looked at a similar model in stock, but it didn't have HD radio tuner built-in. You had to buy the tuner separately for $100. This one from Crutchfield comes with the HD tuner built-in. It was an easy install since I already had a previous Sony Stereo. I bought the warranty because my prevous Sony stereo volume knob was malfunctioning after a year and I wanted to make sure I was covered this time. The warranty was a good deal for 3 years. All my friends buy from Crutchfield because they have the best service and include most of the things you need to install the stereo without charging you separately. I really like the value Crutchfield provides you. I will be a customer for life.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am VERY satisfied with the head unit. Most of my friends prefer Alpines but were all extremely impressed by the sound from my Sony. All of the different tuning options are GREAT although I would like to have more than 3 bands of equalization. The Soundstage feature works great but requires you turn down the treble. The high and low pass filters helped me tune my system in better than I could on the amp alone. Once I managed to dial everything in the sound is AMAZING! The clarity is perfect even with the volume all the way up! I do find the blue lighting to be a bit obnoxious at night but I got used to that. I also wish there were a rear USB input for a cleaner install since i use my iPod all the time, i get annoyed by the cord hanging aorund. The Interface for the iPod from the stereo could also be made simpler. Overall, this is a great unit. It is installed in a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Ext. Cab. It powers the front speakers, Polk Audio DXi650, and the rear stock speakers. It also sends signal to my 1400watt 5-channel amp which powers a pair of Clarion 6x9 2-way speakers in Sound Ordnance enclosures, as well as my pair of Sony Xplod 1200watt 12" subs in a ported Rockford Fosgate enclosure.

Nice, Simple, Great sound, Great reception, Great MP3 interface, Just the right features. Reason for buying: I needed a new unit in a sailboat. My reason for selecting this one: HD Tuner, (why not upgrade when it is available) Pre-select stations, (that is is a "must", for me) FM Sensitivity (8dB) DC signal-to-noise (120dB , wow!) MP3 control. (to me it's simple and great with full control) CD changer control, (I just might add it on) Satelite option (I will in time add it on) RMS Wattage Wireless remote control and at last : Price I received the unit, Installed it, and have enjoyed every minute of it ever since. The FM reception it truely excellent, even without an antenna at the end of the cable. Great tone control features as well, including crossover selection for main speakers/Sub. Can't say enough good about it. Pros: everything about it. Cons. Would like to dimm the botton light a tad. (and that feature may even be there too) Yes, I would buy it again! (and it was a treat dealing with the Crutchfield team.) Thank you!

Pros: Attractive interface Remote Control USB interface Sounds great with OEM speakers (2010 Corolla LE) Cons: - USB DEVICES MUST BE FORMATTED IN "FAT." Too bad the manual made no mention of that! - Buttons 1-6 on the face are a bit on the small side. - Cannot save HD channels. You have to tune into the regular station and then wait until the receiver picks up the HD signal (wait depends on your location, usually 2-4 seconds). You can try and save it then, but you'll just save the regular station. Other receivers don't have this problem... - Blue color for the interface is very bright for driving at night. - Layout of the buttons on the remote could be better. I noticed identical remotes for other Sony head units. What gives? Conclusion: I'm happy with this purchase. Although I wouldn't return this product for its cons, I wouldn't purchase another or recommend it to someone else.

I have owned a number of Sony head units over the years, and this one does not disappoint. I mainly wanted it due to the fact that it has the front USB input and HD radio, and both features work fine. I was surprised to find quite a few local HD channels. I admit that I was skeptical about HD radio at first (I thought it was just another marketing gimmick) but I was pleasantly surprised. The sound really is CD quality. I'm sure that varies some in different parts of the country, but the HD radio stations here are crystal clear. The other features all work well and the layout is pretty simple and easy to work with. I can plug in my USB drive that has music, movies and school files, and the CD player finds the music instantly and plays it without a hitch. I keep reading that people do not like the beeping sound the cd player makes if you leave the faceplate on... well that's a trivial complaint in my opinion. It is reminding you to remove the faceplate. I would rather hear a few beeps that deal with a stolen stereo or faceplate. I am using this head unit with a JBL 6x8 component system and two JBL 6x8 two way speakers, and it has plenty of power to drive them. The combination is quite impressive. My 2001 Ford Ranger sounds amazing now, and I love it. Rock on Sony.

I have bought over 7 Sony car stereos over the years. And I have been acustomed to the perfomance of them, they all had good clear volume with marginal bass They were all very reliable. When I bought this radio. I was blown away by the increased performance of this unit. I have never had a unit that lets me follow the bass guitar so clearly! And with HD Radio, the increased resolution and detail is a real treat, And there are more stations to boot! Go Sony!

I've had this unit for about 6 months now. Love the USB port and mini jack ports. the X sound thingy is really cool too, especially for those poor encoded mp3 files. My review is about the design and radio performance, the sound is mostly determined by your amp and speakers system... in a nutshell. The buttons are all crammed up on one side, poorly though out, just to make it look cool. the volume button is also the settings button (instead of the on/off button) so often inadvertently hit and find myself unable to control the volume until exit the settings menu. Other buttons are also poorly located often hitting one over the other and drives me crazy... while driving... maybe dangerous. The memory buttons are very tiny and the display is relatively big but useless... I have spotty reception with FM radio and HD and very poor with AM radio. I have checked the antennas as suggested by crutchfield techs but it just seems like this radio has a crappy reception. did not have this problem with my old radio. Maybe something is wrong with this particular unit. i'll be getting something else next time... soon

Excellent HD receiver, easy to install and operate. The only thing that bothers me is the beeping tone that serves as a reminder to take off the faceplate before you leave your car for security reason, (no way to turn it off) welcome back to the 80's I guess. I almost returned this to Crutchfield and instead get the JVC Arsenal. I ordered the JVC so I can compare them side by side and I'm telling you, this HD receiver is ten times much better than the JVC AHD69. That leaves me wondering why the Crutchfield advisor that I spoke with recommended the JVC Arsenal AHD69 over this Sony Xplod. So I returned the JVC and kept the Sony and I will definitely recommend this to anyone.

I needed something to replace the stock unit on my 2006 Chevy Silverado. I installed the unit within about 30 minutes, including soldering the wires. I haven't explored all the settings and highly suggest reading the manual that comes with the unit which will take the guessing out of playing around with settings etc. The CD player works great and I was immediately hearing crisper sounding music than with the stock unit. The radio works great. The HD radio is great, just tune into a station, wait a few seconds and it picks up the station in HD or multiple HD stations if applicable. I have an iPhone 4 and wanted the front USB connection so it would be easier to unplug and have right in front of me when I need to make a phone call. I plugged in the USB to my iPhone and flawlessly it began working. I can also play my Pandora through the USB which is a big plus. I have read all the reviews and people say oh well this and that is bad. Most of the complaints are pretty petty and really are just things you get used to in a matter of days if not hours. The three 'beeps' that you get when you turn your vehicle off and don't remove the faceplate aren't loud at all and don't really bother me. People say the buttons are small. They are definitely smaller than any buttons on a stock unit but really not too small to complain about. Again this is something you will get used to pretty quickly. All in all this unit is great. If you decide to purchase it, you won't regret it.

Didn't really listen to the radio all that much on the road but liked to listen to my podcasts (Adam Carolla, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell me, This American Life, etc) and had grown very frustrated with the little FM devices that broadcast from my nano to the stock radio in my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. In the city there are no open frequencies. Did some research, and always liked Sony products so I selected this radio. Didn't know much about HD radio but the USB port and iPod control, plus a decent amount of power sold me. Installation was a breeze, maybe 45 minutes total. The adapter worked perfectly and, except for forgetting to plug the antenna in at first, I was reading the operating instructions in no time. Sound is great (I haven't replaced my factory speakers yet) and the USB controller, although it took a little reading to allow me to control the selection from the Nano (Passenger mode) instead of the SONY controller (you have to page through a long list of folders one at a time to find what you want instead of just scrolling to them on the Nano), is just what I was looking for. Learning about HD radio has been interesting and I LOVE the different sound control options. It doesn't look quite as finished as it might since the supplied trim ring will not work, but no one but myself will notice. Great unit for a great price and with perfect installation instructions...Thanks Crutchfield

Pros: This is a great stereo for the price. It's very user-friendly and sounds good too. Best of all, Crutchfield supplies you with whatever you need to make the installation seemless for whatever vehicle you own. This was my first attempt at an install and it looks beautiful and works perfectly. No extra parts and nothing left over. Buy from Crutchfield with confidence. Cons: The only con I can think of (and others have mentioned this) is that the stereo beeps 3 times when you turn the vehicle off, but don't remove the face plate. It's really not a big deal to me, but I can see how some people would choose to let that bother them.

This unit installed easily, works well, sounds great, and has these excellent features, (among others): - HD Radio; you get free CD-quality FM, (albeit with ads), and many stations sport 1 or more sub-channels. - Aux in jack; no more annoying FM transmitters. - Front panel USB; not only does this allow you to control an iPod from the stereo, with songs and albums displayed on the stereo face, but it can also read MP3s on a USB key. I found a tiny USB adapter that includes a 4GB micro-SD card that plugs unobtrusively into the USB connector, allowing me to store nearly 1000 songs. If I want more room, I can insert up to a 16GB card , for a total of nearly 4000 songs. Who needs a clunky last-century CD changer? There are, however, a few caveats: First, the writing on the buttons is tiny; you'd better remember what each one does, because you're not going to be able to read the labels while you're driving. Second, you have to flip down the front face to insert or to remove a CD; fortunately, I don't play many CDs, so it only bothers me occasionally. Third, it has a removable face, and beeps at you every time you turn off the car, to remind you to remove it, (that's so 1980!). The worst thing about it, however, is the display. About 1/4 of the display is wasted on a completely useless bouncing EQ display. Sony: I'm not going to watch a bouncy display while I'm driving! How about putting something USEFUL in its place?

This stereo rocks. It has everything I was looking for in the price point I was eying. The installation kit provided by Crutchfield was spot on and so easy to hook up. The only issue was the dim tool provided didn't work to well and I ended up pulling the whole center console of my Sport Trac out. It could have been the dim tool, it could have been the factory stereo being in there for 9 years, or it could have been me. Once out, installing the new one was a snap. I dig the front USB for my Ipod connection and the way the stereo allows me to control everything through it. I am not real sure on the HD Radio. It seems to be a more full rich sound, but then again, I don't really listen to the radio too often. Over all the system has a great sound with a clarity that is above and beyond the old factory. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace the stock stereo in my wife's Jeep Liberty KJ - she loves the color changing feature & ability to play MP3's and I like some of the other features. Pros: Price Compact Multiple inputs iPod controls (tagging, searching, scrolling, etc.) iPod sound through USB is awesome HD Radio Tuner built in Cons: The HD radio fades out and you have to re-tune to the same station (even if you aren't moving) Maybe all HD radios are this way, this is our first one. iPod controls are nice on the stereo (using the USB input), but it would be really handy if it allowed you to use your iPod (I use the iPod Touch) at the same time to look at songs on a larger screen, or perform other functions. You can do this if you use the aux input (3.5mm jack) but the sound quality is significantly diminished All in all, I am happy with the purchase, if the aforementioned 'cons' were 'fixed' (even just the ipod functionality) this would be an awesome unit. On a side note - I purchased the recommended kit (harness, antenna adapter, and dash piece) with the head unit and WOW, perfect fit, excellent instructions, and easy to do. It literally took about 10 minutes to uninstall - install the unit. I took extra time to solder each of the wires together and use heat shrink on the wiring harness, but if I had used wire nuts the whole job would have literally taken 15-20 minutes. Crutchfield really knows what they are doing!

I had been looking at several units including the Sony 640. The drawback I kept hearing was the dim lighting of the display. I had looked everywhere to find the "better deal". Of course with Crutchfield supplying the adapters and harnesses and instructions and support I never could find a "better deal". Then this 700 goes on sale and I pulled the trigger and figured I'd just deal with the dim display. Much to my very pleasant surprise, the 700 has a bright/dim feature that you adjust manually and I just moved it to bright and it's perfect day or night. I have an 02 explorer which has green dash lights so the green or blue illumination is set to green and looks great. I've played around a little with the features and used my iphone 3g and CD's and thumb drive but haven't figured all of it out as I'm old relatively speaking to most of you. But I seem to be able to listen to whatever I want, though i haven't yet found the best ways to maneuver through the menus but I haven't spent much time on it either. The sound is phenomenal for an inexpensive head unit and I am super pleased. I had to call for tech support twice. These guys know their stuff, and normally answer the phone by about the 3rd ring. HD radio is great, reception in my area is sometimes spotty (It really is CD quality, it also is static free). There is a solid amount of "new stations". I love that I can see the song thats playing that very second (If you have an HD signal). I listen to my ipod the most, the quality is great as well, CD quality is amazing. My only gripe is that when you lose the HD signal the song sounds like it skips and repeats 1 second of the song (not a dislike just annoying). Installation, from start to finish (which included, attaching the wiring harness, removal of the dashboard, installing the receiver and replacing the dashboard) took 70 minutes. The Sony receiver is fabulous. Incredibly clear FM reception, which includes the non-HD stations as well. It is pulling in stations that were previously only static. The receivers settings are easy to access, scroll through and adjust. Sound quality is excellent, far superior to the stock Saturn radio/cd player. When connecting an iPod, the receiver recognizes it very quickly and starts playing within 5 seconds! Even if you don't decide on this model or a Sony car receiver, make sure that you order from Crutchfield. With all the extras that you get from them, you will be glad you did!

I bought this a few weeks ago from Crutchfield and could not be more satisfied. I upgraded from an outdated Pioneer. I chose this unit because of the iPod, which works flawlessly, sub level control, and the built in HP and LP filters for the price. The first thing I noticed was the reception; it is outstanding. It catches stations from across the area that I have never heard. You can can also scan through them as though it were a CD This head unit hits mid and higher notes extremely well, but I had to dial in the bass. I turned all of my amplifier's settings off, and ran the LP filter and bass boost from Sony. I also turned the speaker's bass all the way down. There is one thing however that nags me, which is the volume knob which can easily be pressed without knowing it. I turned off the beep setting right off. Last, the three beeps when you turn off the ignition is not an issue to me. Crutchfield was also great, although I did not read the instructions. Overall a great buy.

I have never installed a head unit before, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. All the connections were pretty clear and just plug and play. It's in a 2005 Honda Civic LX Coupe. Pro: I don't know much about car stereo, but this unit is definitely pushing my stock speakers harder, and still sounds good. HD radio is pretty nice. It works with my iPhone 3GS with the iOS 4 update, and the Passenger Mode lets me navigate songs from my phone, which is what I wanted. Con: The screen is really shiny, so in the day time, with my polarized sunglasses, I can't see anything on the LCD. There is glare, and the brightness on the LCD is not bright enough. At night, it's fine. Also, the blue color is extremely bright at night, so I use green now. I wish it had red though.

This is the best car stereo I have ever owned, bar none. The clarity is amazing, even with my factory speakers in my Chevy Colorado. I plug my Droid Incredible in to the usb port and it reads all my music right off the memory (just have to select "mount as disk drive"), and it even charges the phone!! The quick browzer feature is great for finding that one song in the massive collection that you want to listen to. The HD radio is a cut above regular analog, and I am getting stations in clearly that are broadcast from 40-50 miles away. If this things sounds as good as it does with my factory speakers, I can't wait to hear it when I upgrade the speakers too! Props must also go to Crutchfield for getting it shipped so fast! Buy this stereo and you will not be disappointed!!

This is certainly a solid headunit. The display is strong, and easy to view in most all light conditions and viewing angles. Very easy to install, thanks to Crutchfield's included instructions. Fits beautifully in my '05 Corolla, and is very intuitive to configure settings and sound. The built in equalizers and dynamic soundstage sound absolutely beautiful, and are super easy to tweak and tune to your heart's content. I do have two complaints however. One is more with HD radio in general, and that is that HD will flip over to FM whenever the signal becomes questionable. Although the quality shift isn't too bad, there is a several second shift in the audio. This can be beyond infuriating when it happens multiple times in a song. My second irk is with the iPod interface. Although it is good, it is far from perfect. The most irritating part is that when you press the button to open the iPod browser, it starts from the very top of the menu tree every time, rather than where you left off. However, the 10% jump feature is really useful for scrolling through large lists of music. The HD radio tagging and passenger control options are also really cool, but don't work with iPod videos, which are one of the most common model out there. Keep that in mind. Overall, I would strongly recommend this headunit to anyone, especially if it is on sale.

I installed this in my 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Its control setup is far more user- friendly than the Kenwood unit it replaced. I know that some people are put off by the beeping noise it makes when you shut the radio off and open the car door -- it's there to remind you to remove the faceplate -- but I really appreciate the feature, since my old Kenwood was (you guessed it) stolen when I neglected to remove the faceplate. The HD radio is superb and easy to use. The display is easy to read. The CD player works well. The USB port works great with iPods and thumb drives. My wife loves being able to plug in her iPod when I'm driving and control everything directly from the iPod. Everything sounds good through my Blaupunkt and Kicker speakers, and Sony's built-in equalizer settings and the DSP widget really make music come alive. One quibble with the instructions, however. They claim that you will discard the trim ring provided by Sony and use their receiver mounting bracket instead. This is only half true. You'll want to use the back half of the receiver mounting bracket, but then you'll want to use the Sony trim ring to finish off the installation because the faceplate on the radio is very thick, and it's designed to fold down to give you access to the CD slot. The Crutchfield trim ring (the 98 Honda Civic version, anyway) doesn't provide enough room for the faceplate to fold down, so you'll want to use the Sony trim ring instead, which works perfectly.

Replaced my girlfriend's 2000 VW Cabrio factory radio/tape player ... had never attempted radio-install before and the result is terrific sound and a major improvement! Removal instructions were clear and tools worked perfectly. From there the instructions were lacking a little but eventually sorted it all out. No wire-crimps were included so just used wire-nuts to connect adaptor wires to new radio terminals. Stuffing it all back into the case was a little tedious and the radio itself was a very tight fit but patience was the key and got a perfect fit.

Good HD receiver, especially for the the price. Sounds much better than the stock unit it replaced. The usb and price were the main reason for my purchasing this unit, so far it's been a nice up-grade. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the buttons are pretty small, you're really got to be deliberate when you are change stations etc.. The people who design these 1 din receivers have a tough job, incorporating all the functions in a very small area. I wish there had been an alternative available.

I had to replace the factory unit in my 1996 Dodge Ram van because it was getting flaky. The wiring harness allowed my to use the factory infiinity amplifier. The install was easy, the hardest part was bending the rear support to hold the back of the receiver. Whole installation took about 2 hours Thr included instructions are detailed for this vehicle. The station buttons are quite small and close together, but at least this unit has them. Sound is outstanding and better than the factor unit. The controls are quite intuitive for all of the features. The receiver has stayed on HD stations constantly so far. I definitely notice more high frequency sound in HD. Looking at the HD specs confirms the differences in FM. Conventional FM has a frequency response of 20-15,000 hz whereas HD FM has a frequency of 20 - 20,000 hz, the full range of normal human hearing. I was so impressed with the unit in my van that I ordered one for my 1988 Mustang GT convertible. Unit sounded better than factory there too. I chose to bypass the factory amp after talking to Crutchfield support and determining this receiver had more output than the factory amp. The display is readable in the sunlight with the top down. Installation instructions were detailed and specific for the vehicle. My only complaint was that the Sony didn't include a screw or bolt for the rear support mounting hole. I checked very carefully and neither unit had a screw for this.

Finally decided to replace the original factory AM/FM cassette player in my 1995 Ford TBird with this unit. The install process took about an hour and a half to complete, along with a call to Crutchfield tech support. Tech support is top notch, and the install went without any problem. After getting the unit installed, it worked perfectly, and the sound was better than expected! The HD radio sounds great, with a good selection of HD stations in the Bay Area to choose from. Plugged in a usb stick loaded with music, and what a great way to play the tunes in the car now. Overall the sound is excellent from the unit, along with plenty of ways to fine tune the sound quality. It's pretty easy to figure out the all the functions, however there should be an option to turn off the beeping when the face plate is left on the unit. Other than that, I would not hesitate to recommend this Sony to anyone looking for a good upgrade to their existing HU, as it exceeded my expectaions in both the sound quality, features, and the ability to play back different sources of music.

Also installed a pair of Alpine SPR-17C speakers in the front doors of my Dakota and the sound is unbelievable. I've read where people complain that the Alpine speakers don't have enough base without an amplifier but that isn't the case with this head unit. There is more base than I need. Really like the Dynamic Soundstage Organizer, it makes the sound jump out at you, a fantastic feature. The installation instructions that came from Crutchfield with my radio made taking my dash out, installing the wiring adapter, and installing the radio a snap. I've installed radios and speakers in more than a dozen vehicles over the years and this radio installation was the easiest I've ever done.

I was looking for a reasonably priced headunit to replace the separate radio & CD player that came stock in my 99 Cobra. Of course, Crutchfield is the only way to go w/their install kit - detailed instructiions, the din pocket for where the CD player was at, and the required harness. The unit itself I personally think is great b/c it does everything I was looking for. I've already loaded up a thumb drive with music and I just plug it in and the headunit does the rest. Navigating the folders is a snap, very easy to do while on the go. I personally don't own an mp3 player, but I imagine it would be just as intuitive. The radio reception is improved, and although the preset buttons on the front of the unit are on the small side (as another reviewer pointed out), they work just fine and I don't have a problem with them. Overall, a great unit, great price (it was on sale when I bought it), would def. buy again.

The Sony GT700HD is a great Value for the money. It installed easily in my jeep, sounds great with just the stock speakers, and has many features. My fav is the USB port that allows me to plug my Touch directly into the unit and listen to my music all why charging it too. The unit is fairly intuitive. I powered it up and was navigating the features and listening to it without reading the manual. My only complaint would be that I have not found the time to really understand the full potential of the unit. If you're looking for a excellent upgrade over stock without spending big dollars, then I highly recommend the Sony GT700HD. This was my first purchase with Crutchfield. Their Price was the best I found, and I feel that I basically got the install kit for free when i compare the price with other merchants. Customer service, which I highly value, was top notch as well. My original intent was to get a stereo that would allow me to plug my Touch directly into the unit. I'm so impressed with the way it sounds with just the 4 stock speakers that I'm seriously looking at adding a sub, two more speakers, and possibly an amp to take the sound quality to the next level. It looks great too.

I was looking for a reasonably priced car stereo with iPod support and built-in HD tuner. My search criteria brought me to this stereo and I'm very happy with it despite a few nuances. Found out that it's not "guaranteed" to support a 5th gen iPod Nano. It worked fine the first week, then stopped playing music from it. I reset the iPod, then resynched the music and it works fine again. Not sure yet what triggers it to stop working, but I can deal with resetting it when I need to. The faceplate is difficult to remove without feeling like you're going to break it. It flips down easily, but then you have to nudge it to the right to pull it away. It doesn't always come off that easy, so I just don't remove it. With that, the 3 beeps when turning off your car without removing the faceplate was annoying at first, but like a prior reviewer said, I've also gotten used to it and it no longer bugs me. It would still be nice to turn it off because it startles my passengers. The only other problem are the controls. I don't understand why more frequently used buttons such as "seek" and radio presets are smaller and unlit or dimly lit, while less frequently used buttons such as "search" or "mode" are larger and brightly lit. Also, I agree the volume knob is too sensitive to being pressed in which changes the volume control to an equalizer/balance control knob. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and will get used to the problems over usage.

I wanted HD radio, front USB, subwoofer preamp output, and an easy to use interface and I wanted it cheap. The Sony has it all at this insane price. I looked at every HD radio in the Crutchfield lineup. It was down to the Pioneer or Kenwood or Sony but the price grabbed me. My truck is a 2002 S-10. It had a good DIN size RDS radio with a cassette deck but cassettes have gone the way of the 8-track (and so I give away my age). This head unit is very easy to learn and use. My first try inserting a USB stick with 500 MP3s on it in 5 folders worked flawlessly. HD radio picks up all the stations in my area. The CD changer is hidden behind the faceplate. I doubt if I'll ever use it. USB sticks and my IPOD are more convenient. The install with the GM wire harness makes it easy. Just hook up GM illumination orange to Sony orange/white.All the others colors match up perfectly. Two points about the install: 1) the rear bracket in GM cars that Crutchfield refers to was a non-issue in this installation. Perhaps because it's a DIN size space. 2) The protective collar (from trim around head unit) had to be modified to fit in my dash. I had to cut 1/8th of an inch off each side.Final install turned out clean though. At this price delivered to my door in two days, I'm extremely pleased. Phase 2 is new speakers and subwoofer.

Thanks Crutchfield - this is a great HD/CD receiver that has enough bells and whistles but doesn't go overboard for someone who just wants a great sound in their car. The installation kit was easy to use, but involved enough technical activity to keep the tinkerer in me happy, and when I had a glitch in my installation (I plugged the aerial wire into the wrong back socket) I was able to go into your help area, find the problem solved already, fix it and move on. Bought this from Crutchfield and boy am I glad I did. They sent along the wiring harness designed specifically for my car which made the installation process go so much smoother. I purchased this unit to replace my factory stereo that only had a CD player and AM/FM tuner. This baby is all I needed and more. The sound quality is not even comparable to the junk they send with the car. The Screen and very readable even in bright sunlight. The iPod interface synced with my iPod Touch 2G without any problems and also charges it ( all music selection is done through the stereo itself so you can even put the ipod in the glove compartment.) I do have one problem with the unit and it's that you can only browse music on the iPod if it's connected through the AUX input which to me sounded a bit inferior to the USB connection. Lastly, the HD radio is GREAT! the programs sound as if they are on a CD right in my car and the device shows the name and artist of songs and lets me "TAG" the song onto my iPod for later purchase. I would definitely recommend this stereo to anyone who is looking to replace the factory stereo without spending too much. The geek inside me is very happy with this transaction!

So I finally decided on this one. I ordered it online about 5pm central. Later that night it had already shipped out. WHOA. Nice, It got here in 3 days. My first HU install. Took the old unit out. Very easy. Then wired the HU speaker wires to the harnesses. Put in the mounting bracket and then the HU. It makes my factory speakers louder and sound better. I love the features. I went from 8 stations to like 20. I'm a PC. No I-whatever here. So this unit worked great wih my thumb drive. Load it up and go. Reads in a few seconds. The only complaint is the RDS display. To see the artist and name of song you have to keep hitting the display button to see it all. I wish it would scroll all the info at one time. As for seeing the display in the sun was no issue. I noticed a glare, but was readable. After installing and cleaning up, I found the screws to install with original brackets. Wish I would have seen them BEFORE the install. Would have saved me alot of time. I changed the plastic to my old metal brackets. Much better. D- on the cheap plastic brackets that was broken. Oh well it was free. A++ with the fast shipping, HU, great deal and the harnesses. It was easy to wire up and install with the original brackets. I would recommed this HU to anyone. Thanks Crutchfield. I'll be buying again. Looking for a sub and amp..

For the price this is a great unit. I really like it with the exception of one issue. i bought it mainly for usb drive use. The DLO sound field is a nice option but with the polk speakers I have and HD sound the treble starts to bite. I can only set it to level 1 of a max three if at all and have to tone down the highs to spare my ears. This unit is too good for clarity at some point. The thing that ticks me off the most is the front usb drive. Apparently some usb drives don't work well with this unit. I'm not sure if the crutchfield tech said in general with all units or with this technology on all radios but for sure he said that a cruzer titanium (even with me uninstalling the U3 software) that I own its not going to work and they are notoriously bad. So now I have to hunt for one that will work. Basically no matter how many folders you have on the flash drive it will only show a percentage of them. For example I had 256 files from my amazon.com mp3 collection. The flash drive only shows up to 127 folders. Even at that it only shows a sporadic amount so when I am skipping through it will go from 11..12..14.18.21.27.. so on so forth. I don't know what's causing this; bit rate types, what program I use to put the songs on (wmp or my computer). It just won't recognize my folders. All I know is I have to possibly spend a lot of time finding out what I'm doing wrong and what new flash drive I need that won't give me problems. THAT = 2 stars.

I purchased this unit after exploring my options. I wanted HD radio, a front USB port and iPod control. Installation was straightforward, thanks to the provided wiring harness and the helpful folks in tech support! When I turned on the radio, I was amazed at how great FM stations sounded. Music from the iPod was even better than the radio, thanks to the bypass circuitry. The radio also pulled in the HD stations in town, which sounded great too. The functions are fairly easy to use and the included remote makes changing things on the radio or iPod a breeze. Overall, this unit was an excellent choice and I recommend it highly.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was considering a USA Spec ipod adapter for my stock radio in a 2004 Honda Civic. For an extra $40 I figured I would give this Sony a try. The principle use was to connect my iPod touch, which works well and sounds great. The EQ settings are fine but I always use the custom settings. What Sony adds is a "DSO" setting that redirects the sound in the cabin. That setting improved the sound for me more than any other. The HD radio was impressive for AM stations, and mildly improves FM stations. The only downside that almost made me return the radio was poor visibility in sunlight. Denver has many days of sunshine throughout the year making it difficult to see the screen. In addition the angle of my dashboard catches the sunlight perfectly, which completely washes out the screen. It was so annoying I removed the radio and put it in my wife's 98 Accord. Because the radio is mounted lower in the dash it is much more visible. If your dash gets a lot of sunlight, you might not be able to view the screen. I put a different radio in my Civic and had the same problem, so this is not a problem with the radio but the angle of my dashboard. Now I just make excuses to drive my wife's car more.

Had this radio in for a week now in my 1986 Corvette that I've owned for 22 years. The sound beats the heck out of the 10 year old Alpine that was in there. The only downsides are that the station buttons are tiny and made for y gen hands with tiny labels over the buttons, and the display is not too strong in the very strong Denver sunshine with the top down. The operating buttons are fairly intuitive and I love the the built-in 3 band EQ (could you put in a 5 band next time?). I love the USB port and it will push this cusp boomer into the digital age. Haven't used the HD much since the signal is touch and go in the foothills where I live, but look forward to exploring it down in the flat land of Denver. Crutchfield was excellent as usual. Shipping was timely with all the extras that come with them (but didn't use). Thanks again from a loyal long time buyer.

Just received and still in evaluation period. However I was surprised by the amount of features and how they are implemented in this unit. I rate this as one of my best purchases in recent years. I wanted both a USB, and Aux Input Interface and this unit has both; which was very important since I have digital and base-band multimedia files for long trips. The HD Radio Feature which is included was a surprise feature and now that I have it I like it. The receiver has two AM bands, and three FM band with auto-switching into HD mode along with station identification. The receiver has a "Zip" feature which works (IMHO) better than some of the features of the I-Phone for selecting songs. The unit interfaces very good with the I-Pod's "Tagging" features for selecting and downloading songs (I-Pod). What you might like best is that for all these features that the "Human-Interface" is very well laid out; without too many buttons and dials to clutter up the receiver. Most of it's useful features are clustered in relative groups which makes sense. I like the fact that it can use the tethered remote control as well as the optical remote control unit which is included. Jack, Electrical Systems Eng.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this on my Honda Odyssey. The sound quality is excellent as well as the features of the receiver. However, realize that the receiver is so designed that it will not be flush at the level of your car console because of the swiveling from module which lets you access to the CD slot. The sound delivery through HD is very good. My stock radio from Honda was horrible compared to this. Most useful features for me are the ability to play MP3/WMAs in CD, USB stick and the auxiliary input for my MP3 player. I do not use Apple players, so I do not know how good their controls are and cannot use the tagging feature. I also like the way the digital media content is displayed on the front module. After switching off ignition, it beeps 3 times, which is expected due to the fact that I use factory amps with this receiver. It is not a big deal though. You soon tune out that annoyance from your mind from the second day. The off button on the receiver is quite small at the corner. If you are like me, used to slam the big knob to shut off the radio, it will take a few times to get used to this layout. The face plate kit that was provided by Crutchfield looks ugly, but given free. Somebody can easily pry out the receiver in a few seconds through that gap. I would rather pay a few bucks for that instead of the not-so-nice kit. However, after a couple of days, you do not actually notice the kit plastics any more past the actual receiver module. So it stops being annoying.

I got this to replace the stock unit in my Mazda3. Big selling points were the HD capability and the USB/aux inputs. I am very happy with this unit. Install was easy, controls are very easy to use, the unit is sturdy, and the USB input works great with my iPhone. Also has capability to expand quicly if I ever go to amps. The HD seek seems to pick up the signal faster than the Dual unit I have in my wife's car. The only complaint I can come up with is the chirping when you turn the unit off that tells you the faceplate is still in. I am very happy with this and would recommend it highly.

I was skeptical of the Sony at first but after 2 weeks of critical listening I am completely impressed and satisfied. The CD player is awesome. The S/N at 120 dBA makes the factory speakers sound like quality aftermarket speakers. The different audio and EQ3 settings enhances any media that is played, even mp3 recorded at low Kbps sound great. The only thing I am not happy about is the reflective display and the thick face plate.

I put one of these stereos on my Harley Davidson Electra Glide to replace my Harley Davidson Advanced Sound System. I used a 3rd party device to allow me to use my hand controls with this stereo. Let me tell you, being able to plug in a 4GB thumb drive with my entire music collection on it makes this stereo worth it's weight in gold. You don't need to use an ipod wih this stereo if you have your music on a thumb-drive. The music is digital into the stereo rather than using an auxiliary analog connection. I also burned a CD with around 300 songs on it in MP3 format just as a backup. Sounds excellent. One of the kickers with this unit as opposed to the other Sony's or even higher end stereos is that this unit has a built in High Definition receiver. All of the other units require you to buy a separate adapter for High Definition stereo. Unlike in the past, most cities in most States now have HD broadcasters. I highly recommend this unit!

A great iPod interface. I plan to try using a USB memory stick also. HD radio stationsvare nice to have. Filled up 18 FM presets and wished I had another 6 or even 12 more presets. Crutchfield's kits tailored to your application were very nice. It turned out the existing radio's wiring matched this radios connector...the previous owner had bought from Crutchfield or someone similar. However, I did review the entire package and instructions before discovering this...it was put together. It would have been perfect if crimp connectors were included. Make sure you have some on hand for when the radio arrives. Shipping was in my opinion slow and sub par. It took well over a week to get this product. While normally this would deter me from buying again from this vendor, I felt the entire package shipped to me was so complete, I can't help but be impressed with Great radio, great kit, but should have crimp connectors, and slow shipping.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finally got a chance to install this stereo in my 08 Lancer. First thing I did was solder the wiring harness and stereo cables as recommended by Crutchfield. After this I got everything ready to start dissasembling the dash pieces. The instructions included with the main dash piece were not too clear in dissasembly, but it wasn't difficult to figure it out. Once I had everything finally connected, tested, and pieced back together I had a problem with the receiver face not opening. I was about ready to start trimming a few pieces but decided to re-seat the main stereo screws and that did the job. A few people here are complaining about the beeps after turning off the ignition; it says in the manual the only way to get rid of the beeps is by not using the receiver onboard amplifiers. So that means you'd have to use the RCA outs and connect external amplifiers to your door speakers if it bothers you that much, which to some people it might. It's been a great experience installing this radio which was very simple using Crutchfields instructions. I saved some money and got something that I like. I'll continue to shop Crutchfield.

The HD radio works great and the sound is awesome! The controls and the remote are easy to use and the display is bright and easy to read even in sunlight (on maximum contrast). I loaded a bunch of tunes on a flash drive and it is easy to navigate through to find what I want. I love this Sony! A minor annoyance is the "beeping" every time you turn off the car to remind you to remove the face plate...I have not found a way to turn it off. The installation kit that Crutchfield provided fit perfectly and the instructions were clear and precise. Installation was fast and easy and everything looks great. I am a very satisfied customer!

It came down to this Sony or the Kenwood KDC-HD545U (for $10 less). All things being equal I chose the Sony for its superior display. It's large and just plain easier on the eyes. I've owned similar Sony car receivers, so I knew of it's quality, reliability and excellent design. This particular model is even better than I expected. You get ease of use, intuitive controls and a large display. I'm not gonna spend too much time telling you of its features as I can't describe it any better than in "Hands-on Research." That extra $10 is money well spent. A big kudos to Crutchfield for coming through again. My installation kit arrived with a mounting tab broken. They sent me a replacement one immediately after a quick and painless call to customer support. And with a simple gesture like that Crutchfield reinforced the loyalty of this lifelong customer. Calling me happy with this purchase would be the understatement of the year.

I purchased a Dual XHD7714 Receiver because I wanted HD radio. The Dual was perfect because it had bluetooth, HD and iPhone compatibility. Unfortunately, the Dual unit had horrid FM reception, electrical interference, and the bluetooth microphone on the unit sounded hollow and distant for people on the other end. I could not listen to HD radio at all because I would constantly lose signal. Very frustrating. Crutchfield has an excellent exchange policy, so I looked at the available units and chose the Sony. I have not been disappointed thus far. The FM reception is SUPERB. No electrical interference. Exact same wiring job. It grabs an HD signal within about 5 seconds and it does not let go. The unit powers the factory speaks without problem. It will take you a little while to find the EQ settings which you enjoy the most. For factory speaks I would suggest using the "LOUD" option, to boost base and treble at lower volume levels. The unit works great with my iPhone 3GS. It tags without problem, browses my media and playlists, and will pick up a song exactly where it left off after unplugging from the USB port. My only disappointment is the lack of bluetooth. Having excellent HD reception is far more important to me, so it was a fair trade. The Dual unit offered all the options and disappointed on everything. The Sony unit offers everything except bluetooth, has fantastic reception, therefore I'm a happy camper.

My main criteria for a new radio to replace the dead factory head in my 1999 Saab 93 was built in HD. (Milwaukee does not have a Classical radio station except for HD) Then came things like pre-out config etc. This unit has been wounderful. I am currently driving the factory speakers which are decent co-axials. I also added a 10" JBL sub and old school ADS P-40 (bridged) I had laying around. My only suggestions would be better layout of the controls. The seek buttons are too small and are oddly shaped. T he radio presets are tiny as well. One other comment relates to the Crutchfield installation accessories. The wireing harness was perfect but the dash kit although double DIN was too tall so I needed to cut it down. I also had some pre-sales questions and the person I spoke to was very helpful and professional.

I've had this unit for 3 wks now, and love it. I bought this unit to replace my fact radio in an 04 Altima. I mainly bought it so I could play my Ipod, since my fact radio didn't have an aux port. The price incl the wiring harness, dash kit, and shipping. The radio alone cost up to $199 locally, plus tax and didn't incl the xtras. I checked numerous on-line places and local electronic chain stores, and nobody could come close to Crutchfield's price. I saved approx $75 -$100 by purch through Crutchfield, and rec it in 2 days. The unit sounds great! Has plenty of power and makes my fact Bose speakers sound even better. There are numerous sound/equalizer options to make it sound the way you want it to. All in all, the sound is crisp and it rocks. I haven't tried using the CD player yet, and prob never will. The HD channels sound as good as my Ipod tunes. I have the unit set up in passenger mode when I have my Ipod playing. That means I control my song selection through my Ipod Touch, versus the radio. But I can still skip through songs by using the radio or remote. I haven't tried controlling the Ipod solely through the radio yet. I connect my Ipod through the front usb port, and it charges the Ipod at the same time. The TAG function is awesome too. I have never heard of this until I installed the radio. It I hear a song on the radio that I like and want, I press the tag button and it sends the info to my Ipod. No need to remember or try to write the song down anymore.

2006 Nissan Xterra Being completely unknowledgeable on aftermarket head units, I chose this one based on the features included, the price and the quality of Sony products. Installation was quick and easy. This unit sounds amazing, it makes my stock speakers boom with clear, incredible sound. It has a lot of different sound settings to choose from, so everyone can get a sound setup to their liking. As for the controls, it only takes minutes to get used to the button setup and figure out how to set everything up the way you want. The display is nice, but extremely plain and once the brightness is set to the right level it is very easy to read. The front USB input is key and you can choose to navigate through your Ipod from the stereo or from the Ipod itself. Being a person that listens to the radio a lot, having the HD radio feature built in was a big plus for me. The HD Radio sounds great on the stations that carry HD, it does take between 10-30 seconds for those stations to catch the signal and change over to HD. On the FM band it makes the stations static free and nearly CD quality. Overall I am extremely happy with this unit and would reccomend this unit to anyone that is looking for a simple, but good quality head unit that is packed with features for a reasonable price.

After being tired of washed out sound on my 97 Miata I decided to find a replacement. When the kit first came in I was worried about mounting kits and time etc. Although to my surprise the 97 miata with single DIN radio does not even NEED a mounting kit and fits perfectly level with no gaps! Radio not only looks great, but sounds awesome, and my 13 year old speakers BOOM with major sound. The DSO feature is above excellent, however it seems the higher you turn it up the "tinnier" it sounds unless you adjust your filters correctly. The HD radio is AWESOME, it sounds better than my mp3's from my phone and there's no real "pause" when switching from FM to HD just a slight crossover. This radio is above excellent and is outstanding, if you are looking to move to a new radio especially HD this radio is a great choice!

    Display Features

Flip-Down/Detachable Face: The CDX-GT700HD features a manual fold-down face which provides a larger display and greater protection for the player's CD-slot and your CD discs. In addition, the unit features a detachable face for theft prevention. Two face-fixing screws are supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.  No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Caution Alarm: If you turn the ignition switch to the Off position without detaching the front-panel, the caution alarm will sound for a few seconds. The alarm will only sound if the built-in amplifier is used.

2-Line LCD Display: The 2-line, black background and white backlit LCD display makes it easy to read song and station information.

Motion Display: This feature shows moving patterns and a spectrum analyzer on the display when turned on.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button once will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Dimmer: To change the brightness of the display you can set the CDX-GT700HD to one of three dimmer modes - Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer), and Dimmer On (display always dim). The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.

Contrast: You can adjust the contrast level of the head unit's display for better day- and night-time viewing. The contrast level is adjustable in 7 steps.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

Button Illumination: Illuminated keys help you find and select control functions in low light. You can change the heaudnit's button illumination to blue or green to better match your vehicle's interior dash lighting.

    HD Radio

Built-in HD Radio Tuner: The integrated HD Radio tuner receives compatible AM and FM radio stations signals in digital format for improved sound quality while providing metadata information and iTunes Music Tagging so that you can find the songs you like later.

HD Radio Technology: HD Radio technology, where available, offers higher quality sound than conventional analog broadcasts and receives text data. HD Radio provides FM broadcasts that are equal to CD sound quality and AM broadcasts that are as good as analog FM stereo broadcasts.  Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

Metadata Information: HD Radio provides a variety of data; including station name, song title, artist name, album name, etc.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the CDX-GT700HD can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Preset Tuning: The radio features 6 memory bands to store and receive analog and digital AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets each in FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2 (total: 18 FM/12 AM). Preset tuning can be done manually or automatically.

    Audio Section

True Fidelity Sound Construction: The Sony Xplod CDX-GT700HD FM/AM compact disc player features a newly developed sound processor for less distortion, an S-MOSFET IC for smooth signal transmission, and a large-sized capacitor for deep bass sound.

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Sony CDX-GT700HD utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

CEA2006 Compliant Amplifier: The power specifications for the Sony Xplod CDX-GT700HD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the CDX-GT700HD are as follows:

    • Continuous Power Output: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Power Output: 52 watts x 4-channels (208 total watts)

EQ3 Stage 2: The Sony Xplod CDX-GT700HD features an EQ3 Stage 2 equalizer with 7 preset equalizer curves for various types of music. You can choose from Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom, or Off. The Off mode provides a flat response. The Custom mode allows you to manually adjust the Low (60 Hz), Mid (1 kHz), and High (10 kHz) frequencies from +/-10dB.

Digital Music Plus Advanced: The Sony CDX-GT700HD features Digital Music Plus Advanced which is an enhancer technology used to reproduce detail and high frequency sound from compressed audio.

Dynamic Soundstage Organizer (DSO): Sony's Dynamic Soundstage Organizer uses proprietary circuitry to induce subtle phase shifts, simulating a sound source that is placed higher than the actual speakers in the vehicle. For example, when the DSO function is used in a vehicle equipped with speakers mounted low in the front doors, it creates virtual speakers in the dash to raise the soundstage. This unit offers three levels of DSO, each with a larger and higher soundstage. You can store the DSO setting for each source.

Loudness: This feature reinforces bass and treble for clear sound at low volume levels.

Three Pairs Of 2V Preamp Outputs: The CDX-GT700HD contains three pairs of 2-volt RCA preamp outputs - front and rear pairs plus another pair on a 10" pigtail for subwoofer operation. The subwoofer output is non-fading with a low pass filter and a selectable cut-off frequency of 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, 160Hz, or Off. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. In addition, you can select the phase of the subwoofer output from Normal or Reverse.

High-Pass Filter: The front and rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, 160Hz, or Off.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The head unit comes supplied with an IR wireless remote control (RM-X151) for easy operation. The included wireless remote allows you to control the basic functions of the Sony Xplod head unit while keeping your eyes on the road.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
