Easy Setup - Great Sound

Michael from El Paso, TX on 4/7/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This surround sound was a perfect complement to my Sony 52" V series LCD HDTV. The two make a excellent pair. Buying it in conjunction with the TV saved 10% which made the deal comparable to others I found online. The wireless rear speakers were by far the easiest surround sound setup I've ever installed. The microphone that came with the unit tuned each speaker perfectly to where we sit for optimal listening. the additional SAIR unit is great too! I'm able to leave the room and get something from the kitchen and still hear what's broadcasting, plus I can control the DVD from it too. I can hit rewind and by the time I get back to couch the movie is back where I left off, great feature.

Good System a little confusing

Ben from Lexington Park Md. on 3/29/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wanted a system I could experience the full pleasure of my 50 in.DLP & Playstation/Blu Ray, still trying to get it to work together as a unit, I was told it was a matter of hooking a couple of HDMI cables to units & I'm good to go! Not that easy!! I'm going to call tech line & try again, The front speakers work great, problem is in the back wireless speakers, hopefully it's my lack of technology..

Severe Limitation re: Wireless Operation !

JRLF from Reno, NV on 1/13/2009

One of the severe limitations of SONY's HDX576WF HTIB system is the fact that the wireless Surround Amplifier - which is AC powered- and which feeds audio to the 2 rear Surround Speakers - can only operate provided the Surround Amplifier is no more than 15 ft ( per Sony) from the DVD Player which contains the S-band transceiver. In practice, the maximum operating distance was found to be more on the order of 9 to 10 ft ! Thus, the Microwave Engineers at SONY did a very poor job of not designing enough S-Band ( 2.4 GHZ) power out of their transceivers to close the link from the DVD Player to the Surround Amplifier. Hence, if you have a family room that is - say 18 Ft wide- forget it. On the otherhand if your FR is only 9 ft. wide, the Surround Amplifier has a good chance of picking up the wireless S-band signal. Panasonic engineers on the otherhand designed their wireless systems to operate over 10 meters, i.e. 30 ft. In sum, it was disappointing to find this out, after I purchased this system - as I was looking forward to using its Bravia Synch feature with our 52" SONY LCD Bravia HDTV. Cheers from a Ph.D in E.E. !

The Best for the money

So good I ordered a 2nd one

Lawrence from Seminole, Fl on 7/20/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sony is one of the best yet in terms of set-up anf functionality. The wireless rear speakers and second room speaker make it a snap to set up. This unit is used in our theather room. I just ordered a 2nd unit to replace our ageing Yamaha ent. system. An excelent value for the price.

Great System

Brenda from Everett, WA on 6/1/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is definitely a great system in this price range. It was very easy to hook up with all the color coded wire connectors and the best part for me was not having to run wires across my hardwoods to the rear speakers. Yes they are wired but to a separate junction box of sorts and those wires tuck away nicely into the box. The speaker calibration mic was very nice to have -- it takes away all of that measuring you have to do with the older systems. The ONLY thing that would have made this system even better for me to hook up was if I had a Bravia TV. I have a Samsung and it was still a simple procedure. I would recommend this system to anyone who might be looking for a higher end system without paying the higher end dollars. They included a couple of really nice extras, the I-Pod dock and the S-Air speaker and it put this system at the top of my list when researching and it should for you as well. It looks great with my piano finish Samsung 52" LCD and the other components too since it's mostly black with small silver detailing. Again, this is a great system....I'm glad I bought it and I have no doubts you will too. Enjoy!!

Good Value

andrewsj3c2 from Colorado Springs on 5/29/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The "wireless" rear speakers work well. The additional wireless speaker is a great deal and sounds good. Really easy to set the whole thing up. Color coded speaker connections. The microphone/automatic setup feature for the 5.1 sound is fun to do but I have no idea if it makes a difference from the default sound settings. Not thrilled with the specialized speaker connectors that limit use of my own speaker wires. I don't need to load more than one disc at a time so the five disk trays is a waste. It would be nice if the unit were not as deep as it is. Some day I'll buy an LCD TV and at 18 inches deep (with the wireless card in back) this unit is is likely 3 to 4 times as deep as a new tv. This is my first purchase of home audio equipment since 1995. That's right, 13 years. I've been looking for an HTIB for about the last two years and finally found one with the right mix of features at the right price. Crutchfield site made it easy to sift through all the different equipment. Crutchfield provided several sheets of cable labels. I haven't used them but it is a nice touch none the less.

Great sound for a great price. The system was very easy to set up and the calibration tool makes it easy to have a true theater experience. Plays most DVD-R discs.

Great System

Jeff from Austin, TX on 5/8/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great system. I went from having an old receiver with 2 speakers and no sub woofer to this and cannot complain. I also went to a local store and listened to a variety of their compact systems and this was by far the best in this price range. The setup was really easy with color coded wire brackets. Popped in saving private ryan and the sound was crisp and the sub woofer hit hard. If you live in a condo I would recommend buying a subdude stand for your sub woofer. This prevents the floors and walls from vibrating. I really like the air station and the fact that I don't have to run wire across the room to the back speakers. Highly recommeded!

The unit features two 65mm full-range drivers in a bass-reflex enclosure powered by an internal 4 watt x 2-channel amplifier with separate volume control. The Multi-Room Receiver also features a front-panel LCD display and top-panel controls.

Note: The AIR-SA10 is a receiver and can only receive audio from compatible S-AIR compatible components and cannot transmit audio to other S-AIR compatible components. The AIR-SA10 is not a stand alone unit and receives all its audio from the DAV-HDX576WF.

S-AIR Mode: You can set the S-AIR system to one of two audio playback modes.

  • Party: In this mode, the S-AIR Multi-Room Receiver outputs the sound according to the functions set on the DAV-HDX576WF.
