Sony MDR-RF995RK
Great earphones for a TV watcher when the partner turns on the TV too loud
Pros:
Cons:
The Sony MDR-RF995RK headphones help you hear dialogue and sound effects more clearly, without disturbing others.
Customers often tell us that they find TV dialogue too hard to hear and understand. The Sony MDR-RF995RK wireless TV headphones solve this problem, without forcing you to crank up the volume and disturb the household.
I gave this system a try, and the headset made speech so much easier to follow than my TV's built-in speakers. Plus, I was able to enjoy big movie effects in a place where firing up a surround sound system would be a no-no — namely next to my napping two-year-old's bedroom.
Use the included cable to connect the MDR-RF995RK's transmitter to your TV or audio system. The transmitter sends an audio signal wirelessly to the included headset. Slip the headset over your ears, and you get clear, powerful — and personal — TV sound.
The headset feels incredibly light, so even though it fits over your ears, it is unobtrusive. You'll appreciate that during longer movies and binge-watching sessions. Controls are convenient, too. There's a volume dial on the right ear cup, and below it a "Voice mode" button that brings the dialogue front and center.
When I watch TV, I'm rarely able to just veg out on the couch. I'm either cleaning up after the kids, folding clothes, or doing some other chore. The Sony MDR-RF995RK gives you 150 feet of wireless range to move around in.
This was particularly useful when I watched a weekend afternoon baseball game. My kitchen is right next to my living room, so I could start prepping for dinner while still keeping tabs on my team. When the lazy Sunday crowd erupted into cheers, I knew to head back over to the TV to catch the important play.

sound quality is excellent for the price. headphones do cut out occasionally. still in my 60 day purchase trial. may return these headphones because of the audio cutout.
Pros:
Cons:
Terrific sound quality, comfortable ears pieces, I love the long range reception. Would recommend them to anyone.
Pros:
Cons:
I bought this so that I would not have to turn the volume up on high because of my recent hearing loss. I have been very pleased with the product. The wireless headphones was easy to install on the TV and I have had no problems.
Pros:
Cons:
These headphones really bring the spoken word in well to my 82 year old, very deaf husband! The only problem is when he's got plugged into the AV tuner, then there is no sound from tuner for me to listen also. Not the result we were hoping for. But if he is watching tv alone it works for him. Maybe there is something I don't know about the installation. If anybody can help me out I would appreciate it.

Sounds great
Pros:
Cons:
Is there anyway to have the headset on and still have someone else here what is being said?
Pros: good sound!
Cons: cuts in and out! Wish there was some way to here the tv while the headset is on'
Crystal clear hearing anywhere in my home (1800 sq ft). Comfortable leather like pads for ears. My dear ole mom 86 who has some hearing loss loves em. She can hear the dialog (audio) much better for her evening novela's (Spanish soap opera). Infact, I can hear Jeopardy much better (clearer) with headphones versus the Panasonic TV speaker.
Pros: Clear audio. Great price for quality. Excellent, knowledgable, friendly and available Crutchfield customer service.
Cons: None
The Sony headset for TV listening is very comfortable, easy to hook up. My biggest complaint is the battery takes to long to recharge, and the sound keeps cutting in and out.
Pros: Easy connection.
Cons: Sound cuts in and out.
Very clear to hear and easy to charge the unit.

Cons:
Love this product so far. Easy to set up. Great price. I can listen to shows now and not brother my wife. Thanks
Pros:
Cons:
System works great,I can now watch movies without disturbing my wife when the action parts raise the noise level.Wife is happy,I am happy and Crutchfield is happy it sold me the Sony system.
Pros:
Cons:
I am ok with the ease of set-up and volume control. There is one issue that I am not happy with. The sound comes and goes as if the earphones are losing the audio signal from the base unit. I am only 12 ft from the base.
Pros: Reasonable price, good for TV viewing.
Cons: Looses audio signal.
Just what I was looking for. Over ears means no outside noise to me. I'm 64 and need to hear the dialogue more clearly than what is produced by TV. Only neg: wish it had a mute button.
Pros: Hear dialogue clearly
Cons: No mute button
Works great and very comfortable
Pros:
Cons:
Works as advertised but does have some slight background hiss. Also, at times, the sound will drop off depending on your head position.

Crutchfield response on 8/16/2017 We're sorry you're having issues with your headphones. If the problem continues, please just reach out to our tech support team. They can either help get them working the way they should, or possibly return for an exchange or refund.
I kind of expected better from SONY, but for the reduced price they are fine. They sound fine, but I like the sound controls on my older pair of Sony headphones better and they sounded better. All in all I'd rate them a 3 out of 5, they work just fine for listening to the TV and not bothering anyone else. So for that reason they are just fine, not a serious music listening headphone !!!!
Pros: Reasonable price, good for TV viewing.
Cons: Wish the volume controls were buttons on the side of the headphones.
I am hard of hearing especially with dialog on TV. I have tried TV ears and they just did not do the job. These head phones allow me to hear and understand what is being said on TV much better. The only problem I sometimes have is they cut out and I have to move my head to regain the sound. Tried all 3 channels and it is the same on all of them. Gave 4 star because of sound cutting out.
Pros: Good crisp sound
Cons: Sometimes the sound cuts out.
Had previous model. Like the additional voice enhancement.
Pros: Voice enhancement.
Cons: Headphones too tight against head. Pressure should be adjustable. Ear cover too small.
Overview: The Sony MDR-RF995RK Wireless Stereo Headphone System lets you enjoy your music, TV shows, games, or movies in private. The headphones operate on radio frequencies (RF), giving you a range of up to 150 feet. The system includes the over-ear headphones, RF transmitter/headphone charging stand, rechargeable battery, and necessary cables.
Drivers/Closed Back Design: The MDR-RF995RK headphones feature large 40mm drivers (1.57"), giving you clear, accurate sound quality over a wide frequency range. The drivers are housed in closed-back ear cups to reduce ambient noise and to keep the audio from leaking out. The ear cups feature soft ear pads for added comfort during long listening sessions. The ear cups swivel and tilt on the head band to provide the best fit.
Voice Mode / Volume Control: If you use the wireless headphones to watch TV or movies, you can enjoy clearer dialog by engaging the Voice Mode. You can easily switch between Voice Mode and Normal playback mode with the slide switch on the right ear cup. The headphones rotary volume control is also located on the right ear cup.
Rechargeable Battery: The MDR-RF995RK is powered by the BP-HP800-11, a 2.4-volt 800mAh Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable battery. The battery is stored inside the left ear cup, and provides up to 20 hours of playback time. If you place the headphones on the transmitter/charging stand after each use, you can keep the battery "topped off," as it will recharge automatically. A fully-exhausted battery charges in approximately 7 hours. The charger automatically turns off when charging is complete, so there's no need to remove the headphones from the charging stand.
Optional Alkaline Batteries: When the rechargeable battery is exhausted, you can insert two "AAA" alkaline batteries and continue listening. Fresh alkaline batteries provide approximately 24 hours of playback time.
Transmitter / Charging Stand: The TMR-RF995R RF transmitter/charging stand connects to your audio source via a 3.5mm stereo mini cable (supplied). The transmitter operates at 915.5 MHz (channel 1), 916.0 MHz (channel 2), and 916.5 MHz (channel 3). If the headphones are not able to receive a clear audio signal, you can switch between channels on the transmitter base. The headphones will locate the new frequency when the Auto Tuning button (on the right ear cup) is pressed. The transmitter has a range of up to 150 feet.
Noise Reduction: The transmitter takes the audio input signal, compresses it, and converts it to an RF signal. When picked up by the headphones, the signal is decompressed, which reduces the noise level, and improves the signal-to-noise ratio.

Yes, I was able to hook up to my old TV and Tuner and I could adjust the volume without interference from other listeners. However a few weeks ago my TV and tuner died and I had to get new ones and have not been able to get the headphones to work. I bought a Samsung UHDTV Model MU800D and a Sony STR-DH770 AV receiver, hopefully Crutchfield can get back to me with instructions on how to make them work again [ Stephen Apr 08, 2018 ]

Yes. [ BRADLEY Apr 06, 2018 ]
Absolutely! That's what I like about it. The sound can be on as normal or turned off completely. I have a partial hearing loss that is bothered be background noise. This eliminates that problem when my wife and I are watching together. But if she goes to bed before me I can turn the screen volume to zero. Love it ! [ Dale Apr 06, 2018 ]
Once you turn the sound down the only person that can hear is the one with the turned on headset. If you don,t turn the sound down/ off everyone can hear. [ Charles Apr 06, 2018 ]
It only comes with one cable assembly. It depends on how old your TV is. You may need a different cable. Read the on line owners manual it will show you how it hooks to the TV. Compare that to the back of your TV. If all else fails call Crutchfield. [ Karl Oct 24, 2017 ]
Yes. [ ONIL J Oct 24, 2017 ]
Yes, after it is charged. Comes with clear instructions. Install the rechargeable battery, plug the transmitter into the AC outlet, set the phones on the transmitter for the initial charge of about 7 hours. It is charged when the red light goes out. Then connect the transmitter to the TV and you're in business. Lee W. [ Lee Oct 23, 2017 ]
Yes, everything is included [ Donald Oct 23, 2017 ]
That will ultimately depend on the capabilities of the TV that you're connecting the headphones to. For more information on whether these will work with your specific TV model, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. [ Larry Jun 15, 2017 ] Staff
