    Poor mic

Anonymous from Grand Rapids, MI on 3/19/2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I generally dislike Sony as a brand, disregarding my brand bias I bought this model for the price / features offered. I really do like the product, everything works and works as well as can be expected. The only exception to this is the mic for bluetooth call does not pick up when I am driving. People can't hear me if I the car is moving, stopped it actually works well. The only other complaint is that sometimes I feel the menu buttons could be a little more intuitive, I just find myself thinking "that isn't how I would have designed it" when using the controls on the head unit sometimes. Some other annoyances I have might have more to do with how bluetooth audio syncing works between devices and may not be particular to this device, but I wish there was a way to seek from the head unit instead of at the player, also can bluetooth audio display track title information for what is playing? Aside from these minor issues the unit works and sounds great. I am still looking for ways to increase audibility for my voice through the head unit during a call.

    Not bad for the price

kevin from Dallas Texas on 3/7/2010

Bluetooh paired with my Samsung Blackjack II easily and works pretty good. Sound is good quality especially for the price and the unit is pretty easy to navigate (unlike some others on the market). Wish it had Ipod controls built in but guess for the price what do you expect. All in all I am very happy with the purchase and would buy again.

    Mic is Bad

The microphone for the Bluetooth is very bad.. it's located behind the face. Can not be used for hands free cell call's when traveling. I have a very nice 09 Jetta without a lot of road noise.

    Can't beat for the Price

If your phone supports Pandora Radio, like mine, you can stream and listen to it in your car. Play your playlists saved on your phone. Answers calls and then resumes song. Easy to install and set up Bluetooth devices. Can't think of any other electronics that I've enjoyed as much for the price. Highly recommended. It's really a great deal.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the BT 2700 and a pair of Infinity 9632cf 6 x 9" two way speakers for my 1991 Ford F 250. Installation was a snap and the unit rocks. I do not have an amp so the crutchfield rep recommended the Infinity reference series due to their ability to get the most out of a head unit. This combination really rocks, sounds beautiful, and gets plenty loud. Very clear with cd's, the tuner, and my older i pod going through the front aux connection. Just a really good sounding combination. Bluetooth works great with my palm treo. So if you do not want to break the bank and are not a audio freak with amps and sub woofers and such, this is the combination. Will pay for faster shipping next time, ground is so slow!!!

Great buy for the money. Put one in my Wife's 1998 Ford Explorer as a birthday present in August. She loves the sound and uses the front input for her MP3 player. My wife has to upgrade her Cell Phone to use the Bluetooth feature but since driving whlie using cell phones is $105.00 a ticket up here, this radio pays for itself. Good buy and with Crutchfield's Tech line support, I worked past the minor installation problems and saved $107.00 over a local stereo shop that was selling the same radio. Thanks.

I got this stereo for my 07 Honda accord. Installation was a snap with the supplied step by step instructons. I had one small wiring problem so I called crutcfield cust service and a tech solved it and told me exactly what to do. Polite and professional service. The bluetooth works great and the the stereo sounds great. If your looking for an upgrade from a stock stereo this is a great choice. I have owned other model sony xplod car stereos and always have been happy with them.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got it at 7pm, had the head unit installed in about 45 minutes. Syncced right up to my blackberry, and I was making calls five mintues later. Puts out crystal clear sound - took my factory back seat speakers and greatly expanded the amount of sound they were putting out, I also installed some Polk audio 6.5" in my front door (2000 silverado), with an Alpine amp and it sounds awesome. I am honestly thrilled for this price.

    Great features for the money!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a 1993 Ford Ranger that was in bad need of a stereo upgrade. I drive it once or twice a week to work. It is a manual 5 speed and trying to take a mobile call while shifting gears was a wee bit stupid and dangerous. The bluetooth features are FANTASTIC on this unit. You can stream music from your mobile phone via bluetooth to the unit so you don't have to carry a MP3 player and a phone. The sound quality of the calls are better than my new Honda Accord's bluetooth factory installed system. It also has amazing AM and FM reception. I drive in the boon docks quite often with this truck and it grabs stations I could never get before. I love the BTM feature. I am not the best when it comes to installing things and this was very easy to install. The Crutchfield instructions were fantastic. Sony - not so much. To put your unit in pairing mode, ignore the instructions. Hold down the bluetooth button for 5 seconds but continue to hold for another 3 to put it in pairing mode. Took us a while to figure that one out. I love being able to change songs on my mobile phone with the receiver or the remote. I can finally leave my mobile in my carrying case or throw it in the cup holder without having to mess with it while driving.

I think this radio is great. I had another after market cd player in my car that would skip a CD with every bump I would hit. Here in Milwaukee there are A LOT of bumps on the road. The CD's sound wonderfull. I got the blue tooth so I could drive and talk safely. I also can stream the music I have on my phone through my radio. That is real nice as well and works great on The EnV 2, The Dare, and The EnV touch. Have had all three conected. The only problem I seam to have and only with a couple of people is unless I yell wile I am talking to them they say thay they can't hear me. Some people can hear me loud and clear. That would be the only reason I gave it a 4 star and not 5. The price was right and is worth what I paid for it and then some.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just had this installed on the 2000 Honda Accord V6 myself. This receiver has the ability to handle MP3/WMA music CDs and an aux input to handle sound from external music sources is a plus. Some users review this product & complaint about the Bluetooth when dialing & receiving calls. I tested it with friends & families and so far so good. The sound quality is good enough that I ditched the Bluetooth earpiece. Crutchfield's supplied wire harness and case made installation a snap. I highly recommend this receiver & I am thinking to get another one for the 2nd car.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had this unit in my 2006 4Runner for two weeks now and I am very happy with it. The sound quality is excellent for all inputs and the Bluetooth function is even better than I had hoped for. The sound quality is strikingly better than the factory unit, even without upgrading the speakers. I have an external XM receiver that I wired into the front aux port and it sounds perfect. The only things that I would improve are to make radio tuning easier and to allow for steering wheel control to be tied in. Overall, this is an excellent unit for the money.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got this about 2 weeks ago, had it installed, and went on a trip to Yellowstone. The CD player has above average sound, the AUX input works very well, and the bluetooth once figured out works extremely well. It doesn't have entirely intuitive controls, but the manual explains everything very well. About the only difference that takes some getting used to is the auto volume controls I used to have with my factory GM stereo when I open a window. Word to the wise- check out the scratch and dent specials- saved $20, and I still can't tell where the scratch was. Awesome deal.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio has all the things I wanted on a small package. The controls are relatively straightforward, the bluetooth feature works great. I had my sound system with two Alpine amplifiers, door speakers and a 10' sub. all connected to my stock radio. I really was underusing my speakers. This unit made my system 3 times more powerful and cleaner. The quality of the sound is impressive, specially with the EDGE equalizer. I programed the unit to use the 2 rear channels as sub output and used Y cables to dive the 2 front channels into 4. This option is great specially if you hear diffent types of music and you want to control the amount of bass coming out of the unit. Is like having 2 volume controls, one for the voices, and one for the bass. The aux input has its own volume control, which is great for Ipods that have a low volume output. There are endless configuration options. This is a very Budget friendly alternative that has all the stuff you can expect on a more expensive unit.

Everything works great for me except for the handsfree calling. I am unable to make calls when I'm driving because they are unable to hear me on the other end. This is do to the mic picking up to much background noise. The mud tires on my truck probably account for most of the problem but I thought people should know. If you have a quite ride you should be fine.

I ordered this receiver for my Peterbilt truck. Making and taking phone calls while driving and shifting a semi-truck is challenging and unsafe. I was looking for a bluetooth unit with and aux jack on the front for my iPod. I am very satisfied so far. The bluetooth connects automatically and can be disconnected with the touch of a button. The features are easy to learn and the unit is looks good.

to start this radio looks stunning. this is one of the best looking radios out there. its functionality and ease of controls are superb. the sound is awesome and the reception is also excellent. the install went much easier than i imagined and of course thanx to the crutchfield staff for great directions on taking apart the dash on my dakota, which i had no clue on how to begin. i must also mention the bluetooth feature which is trully great. i have not found anything negative about this radio at all. the price was right on. you will really enjoy this one.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been in the market for a built-in Bluetooth receiver for months now and I'm glad I waited for the MEX-BT2700 to come out. I was a bit skeptical at first and was worried that it would have the same issue with the built-in mic similar to its predecessor, the MEX-BT2600. After spending 45 mins to install the receiver in my 2003 Matrix, I eagerly paired my Samsung I-760 mobile phone with the MEX-BT2700 and made a call to my home answering machine to test the quality of the call. I was impressed that I didn't experience any echoes and the quality and volume levels were great. I'm totally pleased that Sony considered all the bad reviews and complaints on the MEX-BT2600 and corrected it on the new MEX-BT2700 model. Another feature that I'm very pleased about the MEX-BT2700 is that I can stream music from my Samsung i-760 mobile phone seamlessly. I have an 8GB Micro SD card full of MP3's on my phone and can attest that there is no compromise on the sound quality when streaming via Bluetooth. PROS: -Stream Music from your Bluetooth device -Built in mic has a low and high level option -Phone call quality is great for the receiver and caller -Super quick install. Done in 45 mins. -Displays the CD's album and track info -Great value compared to other units with built-in Bluetooth. Cons: -Phone number doesn't display on the receiver when receiving a call -MP3 album and track info also does not display on the receiver when streaming music via Bluetooth

Overview: The Sony MEX-BT2700 single CD receiver is equipped with Bluetooth technology, offering hands-free calling as well as music streaming from a compatible Bluetooth phone or music player. In addition, you can connect other music sources, such as an iPod, HD Radio tuner, or CD changer.

Bluetooth Wireless Communication: The MEX-BT2700 has built-in Bluetooth hardware to integrate with Bluetooth-enabled cellular phones and audio players, including the Apple iPhone. Bluetooth (Standard Bluetooth version 2.0) is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive cell phone calls, and listen to a Bluetooth audio device. Up to 8 phones or audio devices can be registered with the MEX-BT2700. You can adjust the volume for each connected Bluetooth audio device from -8 to +18dB. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of about 10 meters (about 33 feet). For a list of compatible Bluetooth devices, please visit the Sony e-support website ( The MEX-BT2700 supports the following Bluetooth profiles:

    • Hands-Free Talk (HFP 1.5/HSP): Incoming calls can be received through this head unit, and the ring tone is output from your car speakers. Incoming calls can be rejected if desired. To make a call from this unit, only redial is used. To call another phone, you will need to dial the number on your cell phone, and then transfer the call to the head unit. The unit can be set to automatically reconnect to the last connected Bluetooth device when the ignition is turned on. The phone rings, and you hear the caller's voice through the front speakers (left, right, or both). The BT2700 has a built-in microphone located behind the detachable faceplate. The MEX-BT2700 also supports Voice Dial Activation which allows you to activate voice dialing with a compatible Bluetooth enabled mobile-phone by saying the voice tag stored in your cellular phone.
    • Music Streaming (A2DP/AVRCP): You can listen to music from an audio device that supports A2DP Bluetooth technology. Cellular phones that support A2DP and have music stored in its memory can be played through this head unit. You can listen to and perform some operations on an audio device that supports AVRCP Bluetooth technology. On some devices, you can pause and resume playback and skip tracks by pressing buttons on the head unit.

Note: The Apple iPhone does not support wireless audio streaming or voice dialing.

Disc Compatibility: The CD receiver will play CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW discs. The head unit also supports CD Text. The receiver will also play MP3 and WMA files stored on a CD-R or CD-RW.

Radio Tuning: The MEX-BT2700 allows you to manual tune or seek tune AM/FM stations. In the Local Seek Mode, the unit will only tune in stations with very strong signals during Seek tuning. The Mono Mode allows you improve poor FM reception by selecting a monaural signal instead of a stereo signal. The radio features 5 memory bands to store and receive AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets each in FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2. The Best Tuning Memory feature selects stations with the best signals within the selected band and stores them in order of their frequency.

EQ3 Stage 2: EQ3 Stage 2 offers 7 EQ presets, each of which has a preset value for 3 bands: Low (60Hz), Middle (1kHz), and High (10kHz). The EQ presets and the band values are as follows:

    • Xplod: Low: +6, Middle: +0, High: +2
    • Vocal: Low: +2, Middle: +6, High: +0
    • Edge: Low: +4, Middle: -2, High: +5
    • Cruise: Low: +2, Middle: +0, High: +1
    • Space: Low: +2, Middle: +3, High: +6
    • Gravity: Low: +6, Middle: 0, High: +2
    • Off (flat): Low: 0, Middle: 0, High: 0
    • Custom: Adjustable -10dB to +10dB for each band (Low, Middle, High)

Loudness: This feature allows you to listen to your music clearly at low volume levels by reinforcing the bass and treble. The bass level is increased to +4 dB at 100 Hz while the treble level is increased to +2 dB a 10 kHz.

Preamp Outputs: The MEX-BT2700 contains two pairs of RCA preamp outputs - a front pair and another pair that can be set for the rear channels or for subwoofer operation. When set to subwoofer, the output becomes non-fading and a low pass filter is activated with a selectable cut-off frequency of 160Hz, 140Hz, 120Hz, 100Hz, 80Hz, or Off. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments.

High Pass Filter: The BT2700 has a high pass filter for the front and rear preamp and speaker outputs, with a selectable cutoff frequency of 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, or 160Hz.

Front Panel Auxiliary Input: A front panel stereo 3.5mm mini-jack is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system. The volume level of the auxiliary input is adjustable from -8 to +18 dB to compensate for any difference between the unit and your portable device. The aux input can be deactivated in the menu so it doesn't appear as an available source.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button once will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Dimmer: To change the brightness of the display you can set the MEX-BT2700 to one of two dimmer modes - Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer) or Dimmer On (display always dim).

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

Eject: The CD disc can be ejected with the power off. The CD player will automatically reinsert the disc if it's ejected but not removed for 15 seconds or more.

45-Degree Installation: For flexibility of installation, this unit can be mounted between 0 (horizontal) and 45 degrees.

Remote Control: The MEX-BT2700 comes with the RM-X304 wireless remote commander for operating the basic audio functions of this unit, as well as the Bluetooth Communication functions. Dimensions: Width = 1.667", Height = 3.938", Depth = 0.443".

Optional Wired Remote Control: This unit also has a 3.5mm minijack input for the optional RM-X4S wired rotary commander. In addition, the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel remote interface is compatible with this head unit. The SWI-PS interface allows you to retain the use of your steering wheel and/or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit in select vehicles with a Sony head unit with wired remote capability. In some GM vehicles, this adapter allows you to retain heater control buttons as well.

    External Device Controls

HD Radio Ready: The MEX-BT2700 is compatible with Sony's optional XT-100HD add-on HD Tuner (sold separately) through its UniLink Bus connection. HD Radio technology, where available, offers higher quality sound than conventional analog broadcasts and receives text data. HD Radio provides FM broadcasts that are equal to CD sound quality and AM broadcasts that are as good as analog FM stereo broadcasts. HD Radio also provides a variety of data, including station name, song title, artist name, album name, etc. Once connected, all AM and FM broadcasts are received by the XT-100HD. HD appears as an additional source, with five preset banks; HD1 (FM1), HD2 (FM2), HD3 (FM3), HD4 (AM1), and HD5 (AM2). In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional satellite radio receiver to this receiver:

    • SIRIUS Satellite Radio: To receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SCC1 SiriusConnect Vehicle Tuner and the optional SNYSC1 Sony interface module (package item number 700SIRSONY).
    • XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional CNP2000UC XM Mini Tuner and the Sony CNP-SON1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMSON1).
    • Auxiliary Input: A portable satellite radio receiver, such as the XM Delphi SkyFi3 or SIRIUS Sportster, can be connected to the head unit via the auxiliary input or the Sony XA-300 UniLink Auxiliary Input Adapter (item number 158XA300).

Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

iPod Ready: The optional Sony XA-120IP iPod Control Interface (158XA120IP, sold separately) allows an iPod (3rd generation or newer, but not the iPod shuffle) digital music player with a dock connector to be connected to and controlled by the Sony head unit. All the iPod buttons will be disabled when connected to this adapter and it will be controlled from the Sony receiver. With this interface, you'll be able to play your iPod music files through the Sony receiver and have all the titling information appear on the head unit's display. Using the optional XA-C40 (item number 158XAC40), this adapter and two other compatible Sony UniLink devices (satellite tuner, CD changer, etc) can be controlled by the same receiver.

Note: The optional XA-120IP will not charge the iPod nano 4th generation and the iPod touch 2nd generation. The Scosche Passport accessory (142IFWA) allows these iPods to be charged with this unit.

Changer Controls: This unit is compatible with Sony UniLink CD/MP3 and MD changers. In addition, this unit can control compatible Sony Mobile Memory Stick players. A maximum of 5 CD changers, 5 CD/MP3 changers, or 5 MD changers may be connected to this receiver. When connecting CD, CD/MP3 and MD changers, you may connect up to a total of 7 changers (but there must not be more than 5 of one type of changer). When connecting more than one changer to this receiver, you must use the Sony XA-C40 source selector.

Optional Auxiliary Input: You can connect an auxiliary audio device (such as a portable digital memory player, cassette, MiniDisc, or VCR) when used with the optional XA-300 UniLink Auxiliary Input Adapter. The XA-300 uses the UniLink and Bus Audio inputs on the back of the receiver, and allows you to connect an optional CD/MD changer in addition to the auxiliary audio source.
