Sony's MEX-M70BT CD receiver offers all the features you want in a new receiver, plus the water-resistant toughness you need in a receiver that's destined for a life in the great outdoors. Built-in Bluetooth® and a handy front USB input give you plenty of ways to play your tunes, while the specialized circuit board coating and UV-resistant front panel ensure that this receiver will stand up to life on the water or on the trail.
This element-ready receiver features built-in Bluetooth 4.0 with Simple Secure Pairing, so you can take calls and listen to music (including your favorite Pandora channels) with minimal effort and maximum quality. NFC (Near Field Communication) technology gives you instant pairing with compatible devices —simply touch your phone to the NFC logo, and you're paired up.
Sony's App Remote gives you voice control for select smartphones, plus you can take advantage of one-touch voice activation for your iPhone® using Bluetooth. You can also plug your iPod®, iPhone, or other compatible device into the two USB ports and play music while charging the device. Sony's Quick-BrowZer® feature lets you find your music by artist, album, genre, song or playlist.
The MEX-M70BT features a built-in Dynamic Reality Amp that's designed to produce plenty of power without noise or distortion. You can also customize the sound to suit your musical tastes using the built-in 10-band equalizer, selectable low- and high-pass crossovers, and other soundshaping tools. If you're planning on expanding your system in the future, you can use the full set of 5-volt RCA preamp outputs to send a strong, clean signal to your marine-rated amps.
You'll also enjoy plenty of control options with the MEX-M70BT. The intuitive front panel is easy to learn, but when you're away from the receiver, you can use your smartphone or the included wireless remote. With Passenger Control for iPhone® and iPod® devices, your guests can play DJ while you're at the helm. This receiver also works with the SiriusXM SXV300V1 tuner (not included), allowing you to enjoy satellite radio programming even when you're miles offshore or deep in the wilderness.
Sony built this marine-rated receiver to handle rugged conditions on land and sea. It features a conformal coating that keeps moisture out of the internal circuitry, plus special covers for the inputs on the front panel. It's great choice for boats, Jeeps, convertibles, golf carts, and other applications where a regular CD player isn't a great long-term option.
The detachable front display shows song title and artist info, then gives you caller ID info when you get a call. You'll be able to see all that info in the sunniest conditions, too, thanks to the anti-glare white display background.
In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.
Installation notes: This marine radio is water-resistant, but we recommend mounting it in a water-resistant enclosure or using a cover for best performance.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.
iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Average Customer Review(s):
Nice stereo for price.
Overall, a great unit, and much better from the next model down, especially if connecting to an external amplifier (more on that in "pro's" section. Install was fairly easy as I was replacing an older Sony unit (had no Bluetooth, USB, NFC, etc.). The addditional, back wired USB cord (4' maybe) is amazing, as I was able to route it off to the side, where it shouldn't get any sea spray (also has an attached cap/cover too!). It would get 5 stars if it was easier to use, made Bluetooth connection easier, and had slightly larger buttons. If you're looking for the aforementioned, I'd go with Clarion. Otherwise, this is a strong 4 stars, and with getting it on clearance for 25% off and free shipping, I'd say it's a 5 star system for that price!
Pros: 3 pairs of 5 volt pre-amp (supports 4 channel and separate sub output) - don't underestimate the power of increased voltage on amp pre-outs. The lower tier model of this supports only two channel and sub output, with ONLY 2 volt output. The additional USB connection (hard-wired to the back of the unit) is a HUGE plus!!! Huge array of connection possibilities with this unit... - Bluetooth - NFC - USB x 2 - aux input - Sirius XM - CD - 18 FM presets - Amplifie
Cons: Not overly user friendly Lots of small/hard to read buttons Seems to be picky when pairing Bluetooth, notably with Apple (would assume android is easier, given NFC)
Easy install in my boat , sounds great
Love this stereo. A lot of features especially for the price.
Pros: Features and price.
Cons: None so far.
I purchased the MEX-M70BT to replace the factory unit in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Sound quality is good, the face graphic is good in bright sun and the ability to use pre-formatted or customized sound is a real plus. The M70BT has a good number of pre-set station programming in both AM and FM, however the HD format is not available. The buttons are very small and you do have to scroll through a list of source options to get from one program to another. The instruction manual is very unclear in a lot of areas, especially in what frequency choice to make (200mHz for USA), recalling the clock option and accessing and manipulating the customizable sound function. The Sirius XM accessory looks good and easy to install in the vehicle between the sound bar and hard top. Another option is through the firewall and mounted to the top by the fresh air vent. I can't speak to the hands free BT feature as I did not install it at this time. As to the installation; Crutchfield instructions were spot on. Unfortunately the use of the factory rear support is not feasible in my application as the unit was 6.250 inches from face to back of housing; a quarter inch longer than the stock unit. The plastic face plate adapter is relatively sturdy but I do have concerns that in rough terrain without the added stability of the rear support the face plate is going to break at the two mounting points; only time will tell. All in all, the Sony MEX-M70BT is a good buy for the features you get.
Pros: Bright, easy to read face. Good power; matches well with Polk Audio marine grade speakers. 2 USB ports. Auxiliary port for portable devices.
Cons: No way to get the clock to display while using tuner, CD, USB, etcetera. No way to secure the rear of the unit in Jeep application.
delivers good sound. no complaints. have it installed in my boat
Have only been able to install the unit in our boat and listen to it that day for about an hour. Rain has set in here in Florida and we have not been able to take the boat out since install. Sounded good that day.
Pros: Installed easy.
Cons: Had to rewrite the plug because Sony changed it from their MDX 30 unit.
Great value in a marine Stereo.
Pros: Great sound Sony quality Nice Value
Cons: Intuitive on/off switch
I needed a replacement for the radio on my 2013 HD Street glide, that was marine rated and had pre-amp outputs. The Sony MEX-M70BT was the perfect solution. Along with the installation brackets and face plate, it was a perfect fit. It also cut down on the current draw since I am using the pre-amp outputs into a 4 channel amp. Sound quality is also great, much clearer than the stock radio. Great replacement for any HD Street Glide radio.
Pros: Great radio for the Price Easy to use and has a lot of useful features
Cons: No real cons other than it's a little tricky to navigate through the menu, to get to settings you want to change.
Works well, looks great!
Decided to update the stock Harley radio with this Sony BT unit. Using the Biketronics Mounting and Hands Free kit, I was able to get this installed in about 30 minutes (after spending 20 minutes the night before assembling radio with the install kit) New Amp and speakers have not come in yet, so I attached them to the Front Speakers only which are Infinity Kappa 6.2i Woohoo! The output on the Sony to the Kappas was way louder and clearer than the Harley Head Unit. Outstanding. When the Amp gets here, I will use the Sony RCA connectors to the Amp, and I will have 4 speakers again. Using my Android Phone, I installed the Sony App to control the HU, and it works spectacularly. I was able to use Microsoft Groove Music through the Sony App, and it works great. Very happy with the Sony HU so far.
Pros: Fits perfect on the Harley Ultra Controls are easy to press on the face Works with the Biketronics Hands Free controller to allow you to use the handlebar grip controls. Works excellent with the Sony App on Android phone. Really makes the aftermarket speakers sound good without an amp.
Cons: Doesn't seem to allow scrolling information, and the Clock, at the same time.
I installed this in my pontoon, it had great sound after the install, it has been rainy, windy, and cold every weekend since, will hopefully get to use it soon.
Pros: Good sound
I suppose that most will purchase this without the intention of actually utilizing all of it's functions or abilities. I am actually completely dissatisfied with the unit and am exchanging it for something else. I used to actually compete with Sony ES many years ago in mobile audio, but, man, they've lost their way in regards to making something that is at all intuitive. I put this in my Jeep, but mainly bought it for the rear USB. I bought a 128GB flash drive and put over 100GB of music on it and that went into the dash in the rear slot, leaving the front open for either another flash drive, or it's claimed great iphone support and app. Haha. The app is iffy at best (check out the ratings/reviews on the app online before buying this). There is ZERO rhyme or reason as to what the unit plays from the USB drive, and it's so hard to browse or even just go from one album/band to the next, it's not even funny. I've had it installed for less than 3 hours, I've cussed loudly at it while driving down the street, in the driveway, you name it. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm crazy. I simply can't figure out how anyone at Sony said, "yeah, this'll fly." I gave it two stars because it did install easily, and it does work if all you're going to do is play cds or occasionally put a usb drive with your favorite album on it, but beware, you'll wreck if you actually try navigating any functions while driving down the highway. UGh. Oh, and red or blue illumination ONLY? Double ugh.
Pros: Install was easy enough. Well, I guess it seems the un-install will be easy as well, that's a pro, right? Sound is decent enough.
Cons: You will never make it to 90% of the music you put on a USB drive for use with this. Horrible menu(s). Bright Red or Bright Blue illumination only. Driving while changing nearly any menu-bound attribute puts you in harms way.Crutchfield response on 4/19/2017 Jason, we're sorry you're disappointed with your receiver. I just got this product installed, but so far I am very happy. I appreciate the display as it works well in sunny situations, which is what convertibles are all about. All other aspects that I use are great
Pros: Display works well in my situation. All controls are easy to use and I do not touchings screens. The screen color changes to nicely match that in my car
great product good amp in stereo sounds great in my 86 cj7.
I purchased this to replace a 6 month old double-DIN Kenwood unit in my Miata. The less expensive Kenwood was very disappointing in many ways (a lesson in "you get what you pay for") but the final straw was the LED display was simply unreadable with the top down. The Sony is superior in every way, with solid construction, a quality feel, and best of all a simple but readible display in all light conditions. The Sony control buttons also have a sturdy and pleasant tactile feel. I listen to a lot of mp3 music on USB and the Sony is very quick to read the drive and start playing or resume play, just a second or two delay, even though I have hundreds of music files on the USB. The Kenwood would take 15 to 20 seconds to read the same USB or to resume playin a song after restarting the car. The Sony also switches between inputs quickly, and because it's a marine unit the display is anti-glare and the control panel is UV resisitant. Perfect for a convertible. Bluetooth seems to work fine so far, pairing quickly with my android phone. And of course, it sounds great. Very happy with the Sony.
Pros: Solid construction, fast operation, display readily in direct sunlight.
Cons: None so far
Great product which over exceeded my expectations !!!!
Replaced my Sony receiver in our '03 Four Winns Vista with this. Blue tooth works great with Aplle products. The USB connect was an unexpected and very nice bonus
Pros: Easy, quick, sounds great
Awesome stereo, Really like the Blue Tooth functions and the Sony app. Just download the app and I use my phone for all functions. Plus, no more wires trying to listen to Serious radio through my android phone and that is a great feature seeing as my Street Glide has the stereo in the fairing and I use to have to run a wire from off the gas tank to my old stereo, now all I do is fire up the blue tooth and start listening to my tunes. Time will tell if the Marine grade unit will last the test of time and the elements of New England ridding, but, so far so good!
Pros: Great fit, easy to use functions, remote works great and the look is sweet.
Cons: Non so far
Ease of installation a plus. Operation straightforward and uncomplicated.
Cons: RMX60M remote not totally functional as advertised. Control buttons are usable but display screen remains blank.
Very pleased with the unit's power and the overall options are nice compared to my older Sony unit that came with my boat. I mainly purchased this unit because of the USB ports for older I-Pods and it works great.
Pros: Lot's of functionality - good sound
Cons: Would not work with my existing transom remote, but the wireless will work well (as long as I don't drop it in the water).
Had to splice into the old wires as my previous system was an older technology. Otherwise, installation was a snap. The radio looks great and sounds great. I installed it in my 1984 cruising sailboat. It handles my ipod and Sirius receiver with no problems at all. I also love the Bluetooth capability as it allows me to answer my cellphone without getting distracted when underway. Overall, I think this is a great system and a real value for the price.
Pros: Easy installation, lots of input options, great sound
Cons: Haven't found any yet.
Excellent deck, much better than the two previous units I had on my boat.
Pros: Easy install, easy set-up, great sound.
Bought this for an 05 Jeep Wrangler. Bluetooth works great and even at 65mph the hands free calling works great. It's holding up well. Plenty of outputs for amps( I'm running 2).
Pros: Bluetooth, marine grade, visibility is great in a jeep with the top down. both USB ports charge iPhone 6 and iPod. easy controls
Cons: Has a CD player
Outstanding Sony Upgrade. I chose the Sony M70BT as upgrade to an 10 year old factory installed Sony Unit in our boat. I am an audiophile and wanted the two USB ports to support various music devices. I am very impressed with this head unit. The sound quality upgrade is Huge!! Pairing with my iPhone6 took 5 seconds. The phone quality through the head unit is also very good. I found this unit way easier to use than the existing Sony unit. I went Sony to Sony hoping that I would not have to change the wiring harness but that was not the case. Installation was still a snap if you take you time and spice the wires color for color. I was concerned that my old Sony Remote that is permanently installed on the transom would not work with this unit and I was ready to install a new remote. Good News !! The existing 10 year old remote also works great! It has only been a few days but I could not be happier. Just placed a Crutchfield order today for a speaker upgrade. You will not be disappointed if you want the extra ports and the upgraded sound enhancements of this unit.
Pros: Great Sound, Easy to Use, Multiple Aux ports
I bought this unit to replace an older Sony head unit on my boat. I replaced the old one in order to add Bluetooth and built-in SiriusXM. The stereo works great and was easy to set up. I especially like the full power down feature. Because the unit has an internal memory built in for the settings, it can completely turn off the power coming to it. This is great feature on a boat. It allows me to leave my battery switched on and not worry about the stereo draining the battery.
Pros: Easy to to use, great power off feature, great sound
Cons: Different connector from my older Sony stereo on the back of the head unit made me have to cut and splice wires.
This review is identical to Reb from July 2014. We bought the radio soon after it was released and it did not work correctly. The FM tuner would not tune in half of the frequencies. After lots of back and forth with Crutchfield and Sony it was clear that the unit was defective and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to install it for 4 months after purchasing it so the Crutchfield return was expired. But, the Sony warranty was still active, so this should have been an easy swap. Not so. Sony stalled and stalled and eventually sent me a "replacement" that wasn't even a marine radio. After a dozen more calls and a return of that radio, Sony finally admitted that the "Return Department" kept different inventory than their sales department and that they couldn't send me an identical replacement. At this point, Crutchfield offered to swap the unit despite their 60-day policy, but I had already sent the inoperable unit back to Sony. Sony finally refunded my purchase price, which I used to buy a replacement from Crutchfield. I rushed to install it in the boat last November just before it was covered for the winter and, thankfully, it work as promised this time. It is a very good unit and it replaced a 10-year-old Sony that lasted about as long as you could hope for in a marine environment. So, a word to the wise: Crutchfield defines excellent customer service and Sony is at the opposite end of the spectrum. So, install the radio as soon as you get it!
Pros: Excellent radio (unless it is initially defective) Great sound Lots of connection options
Cons: The connectors were not identical to the 10-year old model it replaced, forcing me to fish the wires through the panels again.
Installed this radio in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, install was easy, radio works great in the Jeep, can see the read even in bright sun light.
Pros: Water proof and UV protected.
Cons: Did not have the option of a free install kit for the Jeep because this is a marine radio, so I did not order ever thing I needed, this was a pain because I had to go to two different stores twenty miles apart to get the right stuff.
I usually do not review products unless they are horrible. I read the review by the boater from Texas giving the unit a 1 star and had to respond. The unit works fanatically. The blue tooth is seamless and the sony app to control the unit makes it even easier. If you are having problems with the unit it is either a bad unit or your install skills are horrible. If you have a cabin that you are placing it in the remote will not work, its IR... IR doesn't go through walls, but the sony app on the iPhone pairs with it and that does. It's a great unit that sounds really nice. I paired it with 4 JL speakers and Alpines 45watt inline power amp booster. Sounds fantastic.
Pros: Blue tooth, Sony remote app, great price. Works with older CPS Products marine remotes, that was a huge bonus!
Cons: What do you expect for the price? Unless you are spending over a grand relax.... I love it when people expect perfection and want the absolute best/lowest rock bottom price. You get what you pay for.
Blue tooth is a nice feature but the face is very difficult to read while underway. Control with the iPhone app is easier.
Pros: Sounds good but the amp helps that. Bluetooth is cool. Mine was a replacement of an older Clarion so installation was easy.
Cons: The face is way too small to operate while underway.
Really like this head unit, tons of features and really well setup. Easy to install and very good instructions.
Pros: Easy to install Good Instructions Back USB
Cons: Would be nice to have a back AUX as well as the back USB to run remote cords Overpriced remotes
The receiver that came with the fairing that I ordered for a motorcycle was a Jensen Heavy Duty Marine. The CD on it would skip really bad and the radio didn't pick up stations well. I replaced it with the Sony Mex-M70BT Marine. It also came with a remote and a mic, the Jensen didn't. All round a much, much better reciever for my bike.
Pros: CD doesn't skip, picks up radio stations better, looks better, comes with mic and remote, and pushs a lot more power.
Cons: none yet
Great head unit with lots of features and EQ adjustability. Wish it didn't have CD. Who uses CD anymore? Seems more like an easy place for moisture to get in. I wish there was a BT or RF waterproof remote available.
Pros: Adjustability and features
Cons: CD Player No BT or RF waterproof remote available
Bought this unit with SiriusXM receiver and RMX60 remote commander. Included remote is IR, so useless in cabin installs where you want to control remotely. Also, if you're an iPhone user, the app to control it only works if you're connected to USB; thus useless if you want to move around on the boat. App is also buggy and hangs. Biggest joke of all (and final straw) was the RMX60 remote. After you cut the massive hole in your dash to install it, you'll find that only the control buttons work. The large LCD display which consumes the face doesn't work. Spent half an hour on phone with Sony support, only to be told that. Bluetooth connectivity was spotty when connecting/disconnecting, requiring multiple attempts to pair. The whole is on it's way back, buying Clarion M303...
Pros: Controls on face ok, sound is pretty good
Cons: Horrible iPhone integration Bad remote commander option flakey bluetooth connect
Installed in boat, Sounds good, many ways to connect to it
Pros: Bluetooth, front and rear USB, aux port, display is easy to see in sunshine.
Good radio for the price
Great Stereo, replaces a 2006 Sony in my Lund Fishing boat. I got one of the first ones out and the AM/FM did not work and I had to work with Sony on the return. They did not have a replacement (out of Stock) and are sending me a refund. Found several available at other dealers and ordered a replacement. Sony was a bit difficult to work with, but I liked the features so much over other available boat Stereos I stuck with this Sony. My 06 Sony was flawless in my Lund fishing boat. All in all a great stereo once I got the second one. I didn't buy at Crutchfield, but should have.
Pros: Many features, Bluetooth, USB (for thumbdrive) Simple to use and install, blends great with my Lund boat dash with the carbon fiber and red lighting, visible in sunlight, decent FM reception, sounds good with ample power. I like the remote, I put some velcro on the back and on the dash so it stays put. Like the backside USB for my flash drive (my whole music collection is on one 16gig flashdrive and never have to hook up any phone or ipod device).
Cons: Wish it had marine weather band. Don't need the CD, obsolete, slot for moisture to get into the unit.. No show stoppers, just my thoughts on what would make it better.
Very easy to install. It has taken a little time to figure out all the options but the satellite radio is awesome. Love the new radio. Using the radio on my boat.
Pros: Satellite radio Being about to add the sub and amp with no problems.
Cons: You can't get the artist and the name of the song while listening to satellite radio. You must pick either one but still love it over all.
Great stereo for my boat. Marine quality, with all the bells and whistles, Blue Tooth, USB, XM ready. Best of all it sounds fantastic on the water. I thought that I needed new rear speakers on the boat, all I needed was a new stereo. The system was replacing an older Sony, so the install was a snap and I was enjoying the new sound after 15 minutes behind the instrument panel. Highly recommend this receiver/cd system to fellow boaters looking for high quality at a very reasonable price. 4 channels at 50 watts provides plenty of power also.
Pros: Great sound, great price, plenty of power and tech ready.
Cons: None so far.
Fantastic sound. Love the wireless remote. Display is very visible even in bright sunlight. Will be adding an amp- mostly because this installation has me pumped, not because the receiver needs any umph.
Pros: Bluetooth, Pandora, and direct USB attach to my iPod and iPhone. And satellite ready! Couldn't ask for anything else.
Cons: The upgrade was not as plug-n-play as I wanted- had to splice the receiver wires to my existing harness, but then again my old OEM receiver was 10 years old (and not Sony). Shouldn't complain over the extra 30 minutes this took.
Absolutely phenomenal system... Installed in my jeep for off-roading pleasures during any weather!!! Holds up strong to rain with no issues, all the commodities of a normal modern day vehicle with Bluetooth app features and ease of use!!!
Pros: Bluetooth, simple easy quick install, mountable remote access, plays all of my music through any of my apps on my iPhone all around a great system for off-road and waterborne situations!!!
Cons: The phone sync is sketchy at times just have to give it a little bit of time every once in a while... But other than that none!!!

Detachable Face w/ Caution Alarm: The Sony MEX-M70BT digital media receiver features a detachable face for theft prevention (no face case included). An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. If you turn the ignition switch to the Off position without detaching the front-panel, the caution alarm will sound for a few seconds. The alarm will only sound if the built-in amplifier is used. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.
1-Line LCD w/ Dimmer + Auto Scroll: The single-line LCD features black text with a white background that makes it easy to read station and song information. The Auto Scroll feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed. To change the brightness of the display you can set the MEX-N5000BT to one of three dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer), and Dimmer On (display always dim).
Note: Pressing the Source/Off button once will switch sources. Pressing and holding the Source/Off button for one second will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. To turn the unit off completely, you must press and hold the Source/Off button for two seconds.
Blue or Red Button Illumination: You can switch the head unit's button illumination to Blue or Red.
Auto Off: When installing in a boat without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.
Bluetooth Technology: The Sony MEX-M70BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 3.1), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony MEX-M70BT.
Simple Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Sony MEX-M70BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can register up to nine Bluetooth enabled devices with the Sony head unit and keep two devices connected at all times (only one can be used at a time). Once paired, the MEX-M70BT will automatically re-connect to your device when in close proximity. The head unit also offers unique pairing for Android and iPhone smartphone to make Bluetooth pairing even easier.
Hands-Free Communication w/ External Mic: The Sony MEX-M70BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). Bluetooth hands-free communication helps to minimize distraction while driving by allowing you to control your mobile phone from the head unit, so you don't have to touch your mobile phone. The controls of the MEX-M70BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.
Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Sony MEX-M70BT can stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat) for both stored music and music apps, the MEX-M70BT provides a Search List of your stored music by Category or Playlist (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+). The head unit will also display device's stored music and music app song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title.
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth (not USB), the Sony MEX-M70BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the MEX-M70BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.
Note: The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the MEX-M70BT ; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).
Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The unit supports the playback of MP3/WMA music files on a CD-R or CD-RW disc.

I don't know - could be drifting off due to signal strength, I mainly use with np3, sorry. local/dx setting?? [ KEVIN Jun 23, 2017 ]
Mark - this is a 'normal' single DIN unit. The US standard for a DIN radio is 7" x 2" (although the actual 180 mm width converts to something like 7-3/32" so most people use 7-1/8" to allow for clearance). Its about 5" deep - no different than a standard single DIN radio[ KEVIN May 08, 2017 ]
Yes, you lose bluetooth connection every time you turn off your boat. When I restart the boat, as long as the radio is on, I just hit play from my phone which is providing the music and as soon as the bluetooth connection is re-established, approximately 20 seconds it works fine.[ Gerard Aug 10, 2016 ]
I don't believe any radio has that capability. You can wire the yellow straight to the battery rather than the switch but it will have a slight amp draw[ Robert Jun 13, 2016 ]
If it's wired correctly it does.[ Brian Jun 13, 2016 ]

Can't remember, I haven't had the unit in a while. I have an Alpine now and it plays anything that is on the flash drive.[ ROBERT Oct 09, 2015 ]
I have had three Marine Sony units over the past 6 years and the remotes that come with the units all work on this one. This one also included a remote. I also added the Sony hardwired remote in the helm console. Both work great[ ROB Jul 31, 2015 ]
My unit came with a factory wireless remote, which works phenomenally well. I have not tried adding another remote.[ Darin Jul 31, 2015 ]
No. If you disable the bluetooth phone option it disables all bluetooth. You will then have to connect your phone to either the auxilary port or the usb. I recommend using the usb because it will charge your phone while you are listening to your playlist and it will show song details on the radios display.[ JOSEPH E May 28, 2015 ]

Yes, have iPhone 6, works great![ R HEATH May 27, 2015 ]
Yes, it's a regular Bluetooth pairing connection. We've connected multiple brands of phones, even my laptop. From what I can tell, if your device can connect via bluetooth, this unit will pair up just fine. Follow the directions in the manual so a permanent pairing code is generated for your device, otherwise you have to manually connect it every time. It's simple, just follow Sony's directions! Enjoy![ LOUIS P May 27, 2015 ]
I purchased and installed the Sony MEX-M70BT in my Cobalt 246 boat. The existing wired Remote Commander (SONY/Access Technologies RC-1B) plugged in without any issues using the existing connections. All functions on the Remote Commander seem to work as intended with this new Sony CD/Receiver![ Cobalt246 Jun 13, 2015 ]
I had the exact same situation on my boat. The remote commander will control everything, but the display on the remote commander does not operate. For us, that was OK because we usually only use it for volume anyway and I couldn't find a remote commander that was designed specifically for this unit...not sure why Sony didn't catch that![ LOUIS P May 27, 2015 ]
