iPod® and iPhone® control

You can plug your iPod into the receiver's front USB input for direct control and playback of audio files. Insert a CD or DVD loaded with MP3, WMA, or AAC music files for hours of audio entertainment.

Sophisticated sound controls

Factory radios often lack clarity and power — no such problem with this Sony. Its powerful amp combines with advanced circuitry to deliver excellent sound quality. You can adjust the EQ3 3-band equalizer to optimize the acoustics in your vehicle, and tailor the reciever's audio output to your speakers or external amps with the high- and low-pass filters.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Note: Use of a video display while moving may be subject to state and local laws.

I really love this head unit. Bought it elsewhere.

    Touchscreen Display

6.1" Touchscreen Display: The Sony XAV-65 DVD receiver features a 6.1" widescreen (17:9) touchscreen LCD monitor. The WVGA LCD monitor has a high resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB; with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD monitor provides touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics and icons, making menu navigation easy.

    • Picture EQ: You can select a picture quality mode suitable for the interior brightness of your vehicle. You can choose from Dynamic, Standard, Theater, or Sepia. You can also change the screen's aspect ratio of the DVD receiver's LCD monitor to suit your video content. You can choose from Normal, Wide, Full, or Zoom.
    • Dimmer + Auto Off: To change the brightness of the display you can set the XAV-65 to one of two dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), or Dimmer On (display always dim). You can adjust the dimmer level from -5 to +5. When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting at a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.
    • 12-/24-Hour Clock: The head unit's clock can be set to a 12-hour or 24-hour mode. The clock will be visible during Tuner, Disc, USB, and iPod playback; as well as from the main menu screen and sub menus.
Note: For your convenience, this unit is equipped with a multiple language display. You can select the language which is best suited to your first language; English, French, or Spanish.

Front-Panel Controls: In addition to the head unit's touchscreen controls, the XAV-65 also offers a 3-way rotary knob and "HOME-DSPL" push button along the left side of the screen.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire in the supplied 16-pin harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. Video can only be displayed when the vehicle's parking brake is engaged. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view source information, song/artist information, and menus.

2-DIN Chassis: The Sony XAV-65 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting sleeve provided to Euro- or Custom-mount the in-dash receiver. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

In addition, the XAV-65 is equipped with Sony's Dynamic Reality Amp to produce 3-dimensional sound staging for more realistic sound inside your vehicle. The Sony XAV-65 also utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality. The power output specs for the XAV-65 are as follows:

Note: The power specifications for the Sony XAV-65 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). 4ch/2V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Sony XAV-65 features two pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front & Rear/SW). The unit's Rear/SW preamp outputs can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer output. When the head unit's preamp output is configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (80/100/120/140/160 Hz), adjust subwoofer phase (Normal/Reverse), and adjust the subwoofer output level (+/-10).

Equalizer w/ High-Pass Filter: The Sony XAV-65 features an EQ3 Stage 2 equalizer with 8 preset equalizer curves for various types of music. You can choose from Off, R&B, Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Dance, Country, or Custom. The Off mode provides a flat response. The front & rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, 160Hz, or Off.

Dolby D Level & Beep Tone: You can adjust the audio output level for a DVD recorded in Dolby Digital format, to reduce the volume level differences between disc and source. The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

Dual Audio/Video Inputs: The Sony XAV-65 DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs. The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input on the front panel of the head unit for connecting a temporary external A/V source, such as a game console. The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear panel for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner.

Video Output: There is rear-panel composite video output for connecting an external display. The rear-panel composite video output will display whatever video source is being played on the DVD receiver. You can select an aspect ratio suitable for your connected monitor. You can choose from 16:9, 4:3 Letter-Box, or 4:3 Pan&Scan.

Rear View Camera: The Sony XAV-65 is equipped with a composite video Rear View Camera input. You can view a Normal or Reversed (mirror) image, as well as display marker lines to assist you while backing up. The head unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image (Rear View Camera In jack) when an optional rear camera (such as the 158XAR800C, sold separately) is installed on your vehicle. When your vehicle's shift lever is in the reverse position, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera. The purple/white wire (attached to the unit's preamp output harness), must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 2.5 seconds.

Note: Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

    Tuner & Remote Features

Digital Clarity Tuner w/ RDS: The Sony XAV-65 is equipped with a Digital Clarity Tuner for clear AM/FM stereo sound with digital processing technology.

    • RDS: Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible FM stations. FM stations with Radio Data System (RDS) service send inaudible digital information along with the regular radio program signal.
    • Presets: The radio features 5 memory bands to store and receive AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets each in FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2 (total: 18 FM/12 AM). Preset tuning can be done manually or automatically (BTM). BTM (Best Tuning Memory) selects stations with the best signals within the selected band and stores them in order of their frequency. To help find what's playing on your preset stations, you can play the first few seconds of each preset radio station until you find the one you want.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The Sony XAV-65 offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility with select Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, and Suzuki vehicles (the included 3-wire harness plugs into the head unit's OEM SWC input and will need to be hardwired to vehicle's wiring). Q & A

    Customer Q&A

    Crutchfield asked
    Why did you buy this?

Because it is the best overall, unit/price on the site that I want to pay for. Wonder if military discounts are available? [ Robert M.  Apr 10, 2016 ]
Wanted to go with the touch screen. Installed and fits nicely. Cheaper than other touch screen options [ Kyle  Apr 07, 2016 ]
Sony is a great brand, and they offered a ton of value in the touchscreen head unit. I have an old car I use for commuting, and I didn't want to spend $1000 on a radio for what is essentially a beater car. This Sony unit gave me what I wanted (touchscreen and front USB port) for a great value (it was on sale here!). [ Edward Bondurant  Mar 17, 2016 ]
Had a blown audio control module in 2010 Milan. Tech advisor said this should do the trick. Cheaper then having the dealer do it. Nicer radio + in dash DVD and still retain all my Sync functions minus satellite radio. Has to be a win-win. [ Eric  Mar 03, 2016 ]
good value from sony. [ jorge  Feb 20, 2016 ]
Price was great only problem is no Bluetooth but I can live with that. [ Demontrae  Feb 19, 2016 ]
A friend of mine told me this is a great radio to get since I was in need of a double din. I've never had issues with a Sony radio so I'm confident in my pick [ Ann  Feb 16, 2016 ]
looks awesome has all the bells and whistles [ George  Jan 15, 2016 ]
It was not only a very reasonable price but is capable of everything I would like to do and will make my truck look and sound better [ Chase  Dec 18, 2015 ]
I liked the reviews and the fact that with this device you have Bluetooth, and a USB / Aux port on front. [ MICHAEL L  Dec 10, 2015 ]

It will sometimes, mine sometimes has its own money an will start on a different song but it does it usally [ bradley  Mar 09, 2016 ]
    The one I bought does not. [ Mark  Mar 07, 2016 ]
    No [ MICHAEL A  Mar 07, 2016 ]
No it does not. It I've also had an issue with glitching, I would recommend a different model. [ alec  Mar 07, 2016 ]
No this model does not have navigation. [ Robert  Mar 07, 2016 ]
    No [ Jason  Mar 07, 2016 ]
    No navigation [ JASON  Mar 07, 2016 ]
through the USB slot only certain android devices work, none that I've tried. through auxiliary input they work just fine but the USB support is mainly for Apple products [ Eric  Feb 01, 2016 ]
Android devices will work with this radio through the front USB port if you have the right USB cable (One that will transfer data) . It's a bit slow because the radio needs to recognize the device before music will play (Takes about 20 seconds). Personally, I use a 32Gb thumbdrive will all my music stored on that and just leave it inside the radio. Plus it connects to the thumb drive instantly so there is no delay before I can play music like there is through a USB cable to my phone. [ Alex  Feb 01, 2016 ]
    YEs it will [ ismael  Feb 01, 2016 ]
The illumination wire is not needed for a proper installation of this unit. The unit itself has a dimming function if it becomes too bright for you in lower lighting situations. [ JOHNN D  Jan 04, 2016 ]
Kind of. The illumination wire will tell the head unit to switch from BRIGHT to DIM display when you turn on your headlights. When I say DIM, I mean the radio's setting by way of it's internal dimmer feature (not your vehicle's dimmer switch). Your vehicle's harness adapter should have a wire devoted to this. What Metra adapter do you have? [ JEFFREY  Jan 04, 2016 ]
No you dont need it. [ FRANCISCO  Jan 04, 2016 ]
I think any would work, but I wouldn't suggest this one. It works well enough, but I was a bit disappointed overall. [ ROBERT  Dec 05, 2015 ]
    You cant [ Eric  Apr 29, 2016 ]
Absolutely. There is an input dedicated to a rear view camera, but that's arbitrary. You could use that if you don't want to use a backup camera...however there is an additional A/V input you can use for any video source...from a DVD player or a 2nd camera. [ JEFFREY  Nov 05, 2015 ]
    No [ JOHNNY M  Dec 17, 2014 ]
No it does not. The newer model does but is upwards of 600 dollars. This is a good but but no Bluetooth. [ Benson  Dec 17, 2014 ]
Yes it does have Bluetooth and it wants to controls everything you have. It's like the terminator. It controls your time, presets , remote start, and eventually you phone. Not worth your time to figure it out. Looks great and sounds great, but it wants to go to Sony and resets everything you own. I gave it a 1 star. [ Michael  Dec 17, 2014 ]
No it does not. I did however purchase an audio bluetooth streaming receiver that works great with this deck for about $20. Crutchfield does have available the Sony XAV-68BT DVD receiver that does have Bluetooth capability. I saw it for about $280. That's a good deal cuz I bought my xav-65 for $300 or so back in March. Good luck. [ oliver  Dec 17, 2014 ]

No, the faceplate is fixed. [ CARLOS  Sep 08, 2014 ]
Ed, It is not. [ Jeff  Sep 08, 2014 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Krissy  Jun 22, 2014 ]  Staff
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff  Jun 19, 2014 ]  Staff
Can't do it far as I know- but I am never sure about anything these days. [ ronald  Mar 28, 2014 ]
I just put it in today and did not notice that in the settings. I'll give you an update if I find out otherwise. [ GIEVA  Mar 20, 2014 ]
Colors? Yes LOTS of differet combinations [ TIMOTHY  Mar 19, 2014 ]
