Sony MDR-XB950B1 EXTRA BASS™
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Great sound and battery life!
Four words we often hear from our headphone customers: "I want more bass!" That's just what the Sony MDR-XB950B1 EXTRA BASS Bluetooth headphones deliver — without apologies. These over-ears play music wirelessly from your smartphone and feature 40mm drivers tuned for deep, punchy low end.
Sony's Headphone Connect app for Apple® and Android™ lets you adjust the amount of bass you hear.
Too often, headphone designs try to do too much, to please too many people. So it's refreshing that these headphones know exactly what they're for. Sony even included a Bass Boost button for those who want still more low-frequency impact.
Sony also had bass in mind when they designed the cushioning on the earcups and headband. The oversized earpads are designed to relieve pressure on your ears and temple. But they also help minimize vibration and create a tight seal for serious bass.
Buttons on the left earcup let you control your music and volume. If a call comes through, simply hit the answer button and talk through the built-in microphone. Your phone can stay in your pocket the whole time.

Great sound and battery life!
Overall Very Happy - Bought a 2nd as a gift for someone else. (see Pros & Cons below for details)
Pros: - I use these when mowing the lawn and other household chores. The sound is great and the bass is definitely present. - After a month of use, I still did not need to charge it. - Surprised at the high quality of construction and materials.
Cons: Need new color choices. The shade of blue is not my favorite, too metallic (for lack of better term). However I really do like the blue on the ear cushions. A contrasting color on the head-band would be cool (maybe gloss gray [not metallic]). function wins over form in this case.
Pros: You handled situation very professionally & timely. I will buy from you again.
Cons: shipment lost by shipper
Sound quality is terrible. Almost unlistenable. On a kiosk at a local big box store, Sony billed this item as "nothing but bass". That's exactly how it performs. When listening to music why would one want to hear nothing but bass? Personally I would rather experience the full audio spectrum. Unless you do not know what true audio quality is or do not care, stay away from this disappointing product.
Pros: Appears to be of good structural quality and is very comfortable.
Cons: Poor sound quality. Virtually nothing broadcast over about a thousand cycles. Does not hold a charge for the amount of use time billed.
They feel great even for long periods of time. I just thought for being headphones at this price point they would have a little better sound quality to them. They bass is almost too pronounced with bass effect on and not enough with it off. Overall they are good but I expected more.
Pros: battery, comfort
Cons: Sound quality
Definitely surprised. I just came across these looking for a Bluetooth headset and I was dead set on the QC35's because of my experience traveling on long flights with my QC15's and I was sold on just dropping $$$ on another QC model. I have never been a fan of Bluetooth headsets and if someone would ask me I would say stay away and roll with the cord to get the best sound. First experience with Bluetooth headset were Macally in early 2k's when there were few stereo headsets out. It was cumbersome and sound quality was not there. I preferred infrared wireless headsets because the had the least latency as opposed to BT. I tried the QC35 but I am always a fan of more control. The QC has all the controls in 3 buttons, and I do despise holding down a button to go to next track just give me one button per function like a tapedeck (haha) these Sony's give you the control. Isolated buttons for volume then dedicated buttons for track selection that have a good tactile feel. The buttons for power, bass effect and Noise canceling on the left ear cup have unique contours going from convex to flat to concave which make them easy to locate. The bass thing worries me because not all tracks need bass extension but the app (once again) gives you the control needed. Turn the effect on and then dial it down as needed to get you closer to the accurate levels. They are definitely tuned with a scooped eq setting. These are not recording headphones, great for traveling and personal isolation. A+
Pros: Comfortable, control, efficient, lightweight, long battery life that can outlast any flight in a full charge, mic wounds good
Cons: Cannot mute the apps audio response when using functions like noise cancelling or bass effect - always a pause / audio reply / pause then continue to program material
fantastic ! LOVE!
I bought these headphones during cyber Monday as they were 50% off, and I had unused reward points/gift card that brought the price of these down. As always with Crutchfield, the headphones came fast with 2 day shipping, and packaged nicely. The Pros to these headphones are they sound really, really nice, especially with the genre of music I primarily listen to (hip hop/R&B/reggae). If you crave bass in your music, the bass in these headphones sound really nice. They paired to my iPhone effortlessly. They also look nice as well in person. So why the three stars? Well it's more like 3.5 stars. They aren't that comfortable to wear. Wearing these for longer than 30 minutes is a pain to say the least. I have worn these to the gym several times over the past week and a half and sometimes it's hard to focus on my workout because of how uncomfortable these things can be after a while. I am contemplating returning these. My last pair of headphones (Bose QC35s) were a lot more comfortable than these. It's just a shame I lost those on vacation a few months back.
Pros: Great sound, easy pairing, the bass
Cons: Not comfortable...
Great sounding. Excellent bass. Not noise cancelling but definitely noise reducing
I used beats before listening to these at a local retail store on the demo racks, by far one of the best bass outputs I have ever heard on a set of headphones. Another thing that I find kinda weird is when attached with wire it doesn't push the same amount of bass as when your listening to its wireless. If your looking for a nice set of wireless headphone and don't want to spend a bunch of money these are it.
Pros: Bang for Buck
Cons: Blu tooth stop working on first pair had to get a second pair but have not seen a problem sense
