Add a source and upgrade your sound

Got an iPod touch® or iPhone®? Got a factory radio without an auxiliary input? Sony's XDP-MU110 Digital Link Sound System lets you play your iPod through your car's factory stereo system, and gives you an upgrade in overall sound quality at the same time. The system includes a digital sound processor (DSP) module, a cradle/dock, and a wireless remote control.

XDP-M110 DSP control unit

Here's how it works

You tap into the speaker wiring of your factory system, and connect the wires to inputs and outputs of the DSP module. The DSP unit contains a built-in 4-channel amplifier that almost doubles the power found in most factory radios, bringing new clarity and excitement to your tunes. It features controls for optimizing the sound for your vehicle's specific size and shape, so you can be sure you'll get balanced, full-sounding music throughout your ride. The module also includes three sets of preamp outputs, handy for connecting outboard amplifiers.

XDP-M110 cradle

This cradle will dock

You can mount the cradle, and its cable, onto your dash to dock your device in a convenient position for hands-on or hands-free play. The heavy-duty suction cup holds the cradle to your dash securely, but has a quick-release for easy removal. The cradle also contains a remote control sensor, manual volume control, seek and source selector buttons, and DSP status indicator lights, to help oversee the system. A wireless remote lets you control everything safely, with only a quick glance every now and then.

RM-X251 Card remote commander

Other uses

If you own a classic car and you don't need AM/FM reception, you should take a look at this system. You can install the hideaway module somewhere out of sight, and mount the cradle in a convenient spot. You'll be able to play your iPod through your car's speakers, and adjust your settings with the remote. Best of all, the original radio stays in place, so your car shows well and maintains its value. This system would also work well in buses, recreational vehicles, and many other applications where you don't need an in-dash receiver.

This is a great setup for one who wants better sound but wants to keep stock head unit.

Pros: Great price

Stan from Detroit MI on 9/18/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My dash unit had a cd stuck in it, I hate the radio. Rather than pay over 200 dollars for a new OEM Radio unit as well as losing my information screen and steering wheel controls I purchased XDP. I LOVE it. This thing sounds amazing. If youre thinking of buying this component do not hesitate, you will NOT be disappointed.

Pros: Sound, Remote Control, Price.

Cons: Extensive installation, but well worth it!

Great Budget Upgrade

TimR from Macon, Ga on 9/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked wonders for a 2010 Corolla S which had blown speakers. When we upgraded them the factory headunit did not have enough power so they still sounded muddled...however, this provides enough power to a set of budget speakers to make them sound clear with shimmering highs. Moreover, running the subs through the RCA out on this resulted in much cleaner yet louder bass compared to the LOC I was running before. Ipod integration is certainly functional but manually switching imputs takes some getting used to. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a extremely cheap 4 channel amp with crossover for subs and ipod in, look no further.

Pros: Plenty powerful, cheap, easy to hide, sub outs sounds extremely clean, ipod integration (note: I don't know if it works with a lightning connector adapter)

Cons: Can be awkward getting used to, volume on head unit has to be turned up farther than usual to get the same volume

Adapter makes it work with iphone5

dahalcon from Seattle, wa on 9/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed it today, took about 4 hours, and I know fairly well what I'm doing. It works with my iphone 5 using a lightning adapter with audio. The cable doesn't charge on my ihome radio, but it does charge and allow the cradle on the sony to control my iphone5! I'm not sure it's going to work with just aux in from ipod shuffles like I'm hoping... will update if it does. Sounds good and the price is great.

Pros: works with iphone5 laying next to it if you use an adapter

Cons: no AUX input, which is pretty key

jeepguy from Auburn, AL on 9/6/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

install takes about 5 hours it was just me and a set of pliers and a coat hanger to fish the wires through if you have professional tools it will probably take less time. the speakers have alot more life in them although i am replacing them tomorrow with the component Kenwoods i bought. they feel like such a waste now because the stock speakers almost sound new now.

Pros: does exactly what it says, boosts highs, boosts lows, makes speakers sound like new.

Cons: wish it had a specific wiring harness for the jeep, i would have liek to have saved myself the time of fooling with all the slicing and wiring i had to do.

Simply Awesome

I just installed two of these units in a couple of my show trucks. 1951 Ford F-1 and a 1970 Chevy 4x4. Both as stand alone units. Very easy to install took less than a. hour each. I word recommend this product. To anyone looking g for an upgrade to a older classic. No need to change the appearance of your stock system or in my case no system at all and the unit is hidden. And for less than $50 delivered its a no brainer!

Pros: Easy to install, even a caveman can do it. You can't beat the price.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I fixed this in my cx-9 with Alpine M500+Polk DXI-180 sub. This has made my stock speakers sound more crisper and clear even when playing loud. It sure delivers a stunning music stage combined with a nice amp/sub. The only grudge i have is the dock cable is little short even when the unit is placed under the passenger seat, may be its enough for sedans and small vehicles. Its a Sony so i don't have to say about the quality of the products, simply excellent.

Pros: * Sound Quality * Build Quality * Remote with so much and excellent controls. * Options to adjust the sound stage according to the vehicle.

Cons: * Little shorter dock cable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 2006 Ford Taurus SEL. If anyone has a Generation 4 Taurus they know there aren't that many options when upgrading the sound system. I saw the price and it said you just plug and play so I bought it. I hooked this up to my car and only the Ipod worked. My radio and CD player did not. I contacted Sony. Don't contact Sony-It is a waste of time. Their troubleshooting=reading out of the manual they gave you. They still never caught the issue. Turns out there is a VERY simple answer to this problem. If this happens there is some writing at the very end of the installation manual that tells you to do some pretty weird stuff. -set the INPUT SELECT switch on the DSP master unit to "2ch" -connect the front left and right speaker inputs (White, White/black striped, Gray, Gray/black striped) of the Hi-level input (Car Audio In) cable to speaker outputs of the car audio unit -connect the rear left speaker input (green) and the rear right speaker input (purple/black striped) to the ACC terminal This sounds pretty messed up but it works. Don't be worried about switching it to 2channel. It still fades and balances like a 4channel. Just read the instructions carefully and this product works awesome. It has significantly improved the sound quality. I was going to use a subwoofer in my car but I think this has enough punch to satisfy my needs.

Pros: Does everything it was said to do. Works great! Sounds awesome! Great Price. Easy install if you don't have a Taurus lol

Cons: No cons against the product. Sony Tech Support is terrible though. This product is a bear if you have a Taurus.

Great Sound! Easy Install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2012 Honda CR-V along with Polk 6.5" Speakers in each door, Pioneer Sub-woofer and a Sub-woofer Amp. I left the cradle disconnected because I have the iPhone 5 and it is not designed for this unit. I purchased a reverse harness and a regular harness to ease the installation. It is an outstanding value and the sound is incredible! Great for most factory stereos.

Pros: High level inputs and a nice little built-in amp for highs.

Cons: Sony proprietary cable does not allow a bypass of the cradle to go directly into an apple adapter.

Great deal

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Doesn't use the analog audio pin in the 30 pin dock connector.

If you are looking to improve the sound in your vehicle then this product is for you. I have a 2004 Acura TL and my factory amplifier crapped out, I was looking for something inexpensive and stumbled across this unit. For this price I really had nothing to lose. I will warn you that if you want to use the radio do not install this in your Acura. I'm very pleased with this unit regardless of the non radio capabilities as I only listen to the iPod anyway. I was surprised with the sound and the expansion capabilities will be seamless as I plan to add another amplifier and subwoofer.

Pros: Produces great sound and seamless expansion capabilities. Current price point. Free shipping from Crutchfield.

Cons: No option to move thru the iPod playlist on the remote. Have to touch your phone or iPod touch. No option to turn off beep while increasing or decreasing volume.

This fit my needs perfectly! The unit is installed in my 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. I was looking for something that I could install that would give me something that played my music and charge my phone. There was no need to hack my dash and it doesn't take up a lot of room either. I would recommend this to others.

Pros: Easy to install Takes up little space No need to hack up the dash Charges phone Good value

Cons: None I can think of

Pros: Sound and docking capabilities

Cons: Would like a better equalizer, just high and low

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my wife's Expedition, in the middle of the night without asking any questions. Turns out it isn't recommended for factory stereos with external sub amps, so I shelved it for a bit. Last night I actually opened the boxand looked at the wiring and decided to see what it would sound like in my Malibu. I already had an LC6i installed, along with Focal Access components up front, matching coaxials in back, and 2 Boston 12's, all powered by a PPI 5 ch amp, so installation was literally 12 wires, (the original install of the LC6i and speakers took the better part of a night, not for the timid but doable). After I hooked it up and reconnected my battery I got instany relief when I could hear my warning chimes through the front left speaker, it works. I tnurned on XM and I must confess, was a little disappointed in the sound. Then I connected my wife's iPhone in. I've never heard my Focals that alive. The vocals moved from the floor to center of the dashboard, I could place the instruments on the stage. Incredible imaging, and although I do miss my ACR bass remote, I don't think the LC6i is going back in my car.

Pros: Imaging and clarity of iPhone sourced music.

Cons: Lack of independent bass control with factory source.

Installed in 2 cars. 1 good, 1 bad

Tylers65 from Tacoma, WA on 5/16/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed 2 in 1 day. 1st: 2012 Focus 5 door SE Sport. Only used the amp and not the ipod controls as the car had the SYNC system. Straight forward install. everything worked as it should have. 2nd: 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan. Wanted full functionality of amp, ipod control, and RCA output. Install was again, straight forward and easy until I tried to actually use it. The only part that worked was the ipod cradle and control. It made a painfully loud beeping sound that could be heard from my garage into the house prompting my wife to come out and ask what the noise was. The stereo in the car did not work at all. This is because, although Crutchfield assured me that it would work in my car, because my car already has a built in amp (found out after the fact), it will not work because you cannot ad an amplifier in front of an amplifier. Of course, that I knew. My factory stereo is pretty weak so I assumed there was no amp when Crutchfield told me it would work. Needless to say, they were wrong. WARNING: if you are afraid of cutting wires or cannot follow a wiring schematic, you should hand this to a professional. You will have to look up the color codes of your factory wiring and cut a lot of wires. If you are think you can just toss this thing in and tape some wires together, you are dead wrong. I prepped all the wires beforehand and did a lot of research before starting. Both cars were done and back together in 4 hours even with the issue with the Honda

Pros: Amp works well. Nice, clean unit. Would be perfect for an old hot rod that you want to add some sound and ipod control without installing an aftermarket deck. Going to put it in my 65 Beetle since the Honda was a no-go

Cons: Will not work with factory amplified systems. Power and ground leads were only 2 feet long while the rest of the wiring was over 6 feet long. Seems like an oversight on their part.

This set up is Awesome!!!

This is exactly what I needed to intergrate my iPhone into my 2008 Tacoma, with a factory stereo system. I can now listen to all me apps as well as use the GPS app, while listening misic and take calls all at the same time. I ordered a jumper cable set and built a harness, so the whole install was just a plug in, with no cutting into the factory harnesses. Now I have to get another one for me wifes car.

Pros: Complete integration for my iPhone into the stock stereo, where it otherwise would have been impossible. There is also a set of outputs to hook up amps this thing is great.

Cons: N/A

Good product for use in older cars or if you want to keep a clean factory look

Pros: Small for enough for easy mounting almost anywhere in the vehicle

Cons: A ton of wiring needed plus you really need to use aftermarket speakers since the speaker wires need to be wired into the unit

Installed in a 2013 transit connect work van. This was the least expensive way to add 2 rear speakers and increase the sound quality of the factory sound system . Arrived on time and works great , the hardest part of the install was removing the factory head unit to access the wiring . But still the install time was less than 2 hours.

Pros: inexpensive soloution to add speakers and better sound to a bad factory sound system

Cons: none

I've never made pie but it can't be harder than this was to install. I am not sure how long it took since I kept being interrupted. 45 minutes tops. Wires are just long enough. Works very well, clear iPhone playing. I will likely buy one for my other car unless we go for the big in dash unit. Fantastic price.

Pros: Price Quality Ease of install

Cons: Price is so low I might not buy the big nav/DVD unit.

Works great

Kropka from Kansas City, MO on 4/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great. Installed in my Jeep YJ. Iphone holder is hi quality, phone is nicely secured, doesnt vibrate. Downside, physical buttons to control music work only with native music app, does not work with spotify - you have to use screen to control music on 3rd party apps. Tip for YJ owners, you can install this amp behind glovebox (you have to remove it for installation, then install it back in) this way it is out of sight. Currently i'm using it without head unit, meaning this works on its on, does not require standard radio to work. If you have a case on your iPhone, you have to take it off, if you use apple bumper it will fit but very tight.

Rick_atl from Marietta, GA on 4/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great deal, unbeatable at the closeout price. As some people noted, it's a little complex to install since you need to access all the speaker and power wires. The easiest way is to buy a radio install plug for you car, in addition to what's called a 'reverse' plug (this plugs into your factory radio). You can take these two new plugs, wire and solder or crimp your amp wires to the two new plugs; then what you end up with is a plug and play harness to just add this between radio and car. I unplugged the radio, plugged the car plug into my new harness, then plugged it's new reverse plug into my factory radio. If I ever need to troubleshoot this install, I can just reach behind the radio, unplug my homemade sub-harness, and reconnect the factory plug in 10 minutes. And this is just complex enough that you may need that capability someday. But it is NOT really hard. Just have to figure out which wires to connect where, the plugs come with basic wire color drawings and that you can add to the documentation you get with the Sony. In essence, you just avoid cutting any wires, and add a power and ground. Verify each speaker by touching a 1.5 v flashlight cell to each pair of speaker wires and you'll immediately know you've got LF, RR, or whatever it as supposed to be by the click you hear. Great addition to my car with it's specially shaped factory radio.

Pros: Sounds MUCH better, easy I-phone adaptation, has a plug in for sub amp and I think for aux in also.

Cons: Takes a little getting used to since you use the radio volume normally with the radio or factory CD, then the remore or cradle volume for ipod/ phone.

2011 Silverado Non-Bose

Andrew W from Houston, TX on 4/16/2013

I sound treated the doors and upgraded the factory speakers with some well-reviewed offerings from Polk. While they were a definite improvement, the sound from the stock head unit left much to be desired. I determined an upgrade was in order but limited my search those upgrades that maintain a stock look and function. I honestly choose this offering from Sony based upon the decent reviews and the exceptionally low price. I spent some time to build a few custom harnesses for power and speaker feed so I did not have splice or modify anything factory. The unit is not plug_and_play but with a little research and time it can be made so. Once installed, Onstar, Bluetooth, steering controls, door and warning chimes, everything functions as before. The sound quality difference is tremendous. I mounted the dock but I doubt I will use it except for the remote. I primarily use the system just as I did before with the iPod plugged into the aux jack on the stock head unit. The DSP is small and hides away easily and if you take the time to do a clean and neat install it appears stock. Setup is simple as the unit sets the equalization, crossover, and time alignment based upon your setting a few switches for vehicle size, sub (y/n), and sub distance from the front seat. The built in amp, if not a powerhouse, is an improvement over stock particularly when combined with the DSP functions. The unit also includes outputs like an LOC so it is an upgrade that can be built upon in the future.

Pros: The unit is well made and compact. It offers and excellent upgrade to the factory sound quality at an exceptional price. The remote offers a convenient way to adjust sub volume, as well as other settings, on the fly.

Cons: I takes planning and knowledge of you vehicle install it well. There are many connections and they should be soldered. The dock is required to use the remote. Anything plugged into the dock bypasses the stock unit so volume and other setting must be adjusted via the remote when the dock is the source. Also, since the radio is bypassed by the dock any stock functions are bypassed as well when source is set to dock. EQ adjustment is limited to treble and bass, audiophiles cant agonize settings.

Wow! Very good buy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the Sony XDP-MU110 Digital Link Sound System on my LSV (Low Speed Vehicle, i.e. street legal golf cart) to replace a motorcycle amp with only mini stereo pin input (which is not specific to any mp3 or smart phone). It was always a hassle dealing with trying to hold the iPod or iPhone and making sure the stereo cable did not to get caught on something. Plus, with stereo pin inputs, the sounds was not always sharp and clear, and riding around you would loose one side or the other at times, and the volume control was very tiny on the amp. The unit was small enought to fit in the glove box which made installation even easier since there really isn't any other weather proof area. I used the existing motor cycle style speakers, but had to cut the RCA connectors off to wire to the Sony unit. Wish I would have done a little more research on the hookup, so I could have ordered the RCA to stereo adapter which would have deceased the install time a few minutes. However, the sound is much better. Crisper and cleaner, and now can increase the bass and lower the treble. The dock makes the best addition. Being able to set our iPhone or iPod in the dock and not have to worry about holding it or setting it in a cup holder is great. Wondering how well it will do as we drive around it hit bumps, but it seems to hold on pretty tight. May be purchasing another one to install on my dad's LSV. Overall, awesome unit! Now I need to add more speakers.

Pros: Easy installation. Small footprint. iPod Dock

Cons: Don't like the beep, but at least I'll know if on of the kids is messing with the remote. Wish dock was a little deeper and taller to hold the iPod or iPhone with an Otterbox.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I titled this review "A non-review" because I had to return the item to CF without ever having installed it. I purchased it for a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with the Monsoon Sound System. It was one of the upgrades the CF offered for that model, but when I talked with CF Tech Support to ask whether it should be installed before the amp or after, I was told that it wouldn't work with the Monsoon system. CF was good about taking it back and even picked up the shipping cost. So I order a Kenwood deck to replace the Monsoon head unit. I am very happy with that.

Pros: price

Cons: It will not work with a Monsoon system.

Pros: Simple installation and doubles as a line out put converter if u want to add external amplification.

What a great product, and for the price its a steal!!! Adds power and clarity to any system, even removes the need for head unit (unless you still listen to AM/FM/CD) Installation is a bit tricky with factory wiring. Definitely research wiring diagrams for your install and take your time, about 20 wire connections must be made properly. Other than that, the DSP sounds fantastic!! Small learning curve with the remote and cradle buttons (no on-screen level indicators, just chirps which cant be removed). I added this to factory 07 Pontiac Torrent system.

Pros: Price Function Clarity Add to any system or make this your source Cradle is high quality Charges iPod or iPhone while in cradle Adds sub controls

Cons: Installation is not for the novice Only Treble/Bass tuning, no Mid tuning available

Works great!

I installed this in a 1988 Mersedes from which I did not want to replace the original head unit. The unit works flawlessly and drives four speakers with plenty of sound for a small convertible.

Pros: For the price you canrt go wrong.

Cons: No usb input only ipod touch.

GREAT Product for 2005 Infiniti G35

Rich H from Greenwell Springs, LA on 4/4/2013

This item is amazing - particularly at its Crutchfield cost with free shipping. I bought the Sony XDP-MU110 a while back for its I-Phone integration and after some research didn't think it was what I wanted due to what I thought would be lack of power and difficulty of installation. I was ready to send it back and even got an RMA. Well, after pricing other head units and iPhone adaptors and what it would take to install them, I figured I'd give the item a chance. After all, all I could do was have some fun figuring out how to install it and save a bunch of money. My car is rigged out with 4 Polk Audio 6xi650's, 2 Polk Audio DXi 104 10" subs, all of which I bought from Crutchfield. I also have two other 10" subs installed and 4 tweeters. The subs are driven by a separate 500 watt Kenwood amp. After a better than expected install time thanks to Ed's help from Crutchfield Tech Support, tired and 10:00 at night, the moment of truth came - time to turn it on. Did my install work and was it worth it? To my delight, it powered up and sounded very different - quite amazing actually. Lows, mids and highs are now clean, crisp and clear. The cabin of my car is now "filled" with instruments, not just sound and volume. What an awesome difference between this unit and the Infiniti Bose amp! This is an excellent product for anyone with any type of equipment in their vehicle to upgrade their normally dismal stock system without changing the head unit - even Bose.

Pros: Compared to the Bose factory amp with more stated power, this is a stronger and cleaner amp. Spatial Equalization of sound is amazing. Even though the install was a bit difficult, I was able to do it and saved a good bit of money. The little remote gives you more than sufficient control of the system and the iphone cradle works great on the windshield. No LOC or additional hardware required to install except a bit of power wire, wire nuts, and speaker wire.

Cons: It doesn't have bluetooth.

Great solution for older cars

Not wanting to cut the dash on my classic vehicle, I opted for this solution to add tunes. The Sony is connected directly to speakers and powers my IPhone 4. In addition to controls on the phone cradle, the remote offers the abilithy to control balance, fading and tone. Excellent sound and can't beat the price!

Pros: Quality sound at a great price.

Cons: None

I am doing a qiuck review Of this Sony DSP systerm. After looking to find an alternative to ripping out my dash of my 2011 Fiesta and what it would take to go about doing that I decided against it. I had looked at the Cleansweep and other similar devices. But after seing the price on the DSP I thought its only 50 Dollars( As of 3-16). It is a true shame that sony could not get more support for this for themore complex radio's that are coming in cars. First the install is not for the novice with no prior work done in car audio. But if youhave run speaker wire, amp wiring and so forth this is just a more detailed job. I had by a bluetooth harness for my car due to alot of the newer fords dont have radio a harness yet that sold by Crutchfeild 2011 and up Fiesta, 2012 Focus, 2011 Edge 2012 Explorer. The install took about 3.5 hours to do including time to build the harness that I joined from a parrot Bluetooth kit for 2011 Up ford's Google search for it. once done and wired the sound is much fuller. But now the stock rear speakers are nearing there limit. The front are Polk audio dxi 6500. And wow did the Sony DSP make a difference.

Pros: Much Better sound from factory source thought DSP. The ipod direct sound is very very clear and much more detailed than the usb through My sync system.

Cons: No real plug and play. But not big deal just takes more time to install. thats why I gave it a 4 out of 5.

I couldn't believe the price point on this Sony! Nice little amp and stand alone capability. Perfect for my van, snap the phone in the mount and watch the nav screen as I play music. I completely removed the factory stereo in favor of this set up. No-one is going to smash a window to steal a phone cradle. Keeps it all hidden. Perfect for hot rods!!!!

Pros: Awesome sale price. easy install. Remote control.

Cons: The remote/track buttons don't work when in an app like Spotify, you'll have to use the screen.

I can tell the only reason the price is so good on this product is because Apple went to the Lightning connector, and totally screwed Sony and all other secondary peripheral manufactures. This is an awesome product that will work with the Iphone 4, 4s.

Pros: great product, great sound. Ease of use. Great price.

Cons: Doesn't work with the new apple "Lightning" connector, and new apple products.

Very happy with the product. Everything works perfectly and the stereo sounds great now.

Pros: It's nice to be able to use the stock stereo and be able to hook up an amp with a sub. The I phone cradle is nice so I can have all my music with me. The best part was the price can't bet it.

Cons: It took along time to run all the wires and hook them up but well worth it in the end.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like this product. Seemed like it would solve the problem of being able to keep the factory look and play music and other files from my old ipod. And for this price. After talking to Crutchfield I was assured that this product would fit my older ipod. The cradle is made for the ipod touch and the iphone, it does not fit the ipod classic. And the cradle is HUGE. In a G35 the thing takes up a lot of space. After taking the cradle out of the box and trying to fit my ipod into it and even trying to secure it with a rubber band the whole thing looked like a McGiver mess. And where do you put that huge mounting bracket the cradle fits into? A.better solution is the isimple adapter which allows the use of factory steering controls and displays on the factory HU. I sent back the Sony and got the isimple and now am a happy driver.

Pros: Cheap fix, nice amp.

Cons: Does not fit ipod classic. Really big cradle and mounting bracket. Requires a hole through fire wall to get to the battery.

Mixed feelings about this one. I wasnt concerned about the ipod dock because my 2013 altima has a built in usb. Since theres no hi pass filter the factory spkrs still distort a bit at hi vol. If i lower the bass the sub lowers too. Not cool. Besides that its ok and u cant beat the price. Remote is pretty cool too.

Pros: Much better than a simple line output convertor. A little louder than factory radio.

Cons: No hi pass filter. No lo pass filter. Adjusting bass affects sub output.

Fantastic Upgrade

tmcat from Philadelphia, PA on 2/20/2013

I have a '93 Honda Integra with 1/4 million miles. The first owner (I'm the third) had apparently done a mediocre upgrade of the factory speakers, probably running it off a pre-amp, which was long gone by the time I got it. The 10 gauge home audio cables were still there though, as well as some beat boston high watt speakers. Problem. Any audio run through the stock head unit to high wattage speakers sounds like farts. The head unit supplies at most 30 watts. So I tore out the speakers and replaced with crutchfield's Sound Ordnance p52s knowing I'd eventually have to throw a new master unit in to power them. The sound immediately improved, but not enough. I got the the Mu-110 as the master unit, set it up in and wired it through the glove compartment, to the stock head unit as instructed. Voila. Amazing sound, from the radio as well as my iPhone. More dynamic than my Grado cans and I have yet to replace the side board speakers. I'll probably go for something a little bass heavy, as the SO speakers are, like grados, treble shredders. In a week I have a pristine, dynamic sound system in a car almost as old as myself, controllable from my phone. If that isn't a miracle... I can't help but feel like the fat old cabling is to blame. Tearing the wiring apart also require you to resplice all the damaged or aged connections; I'd advise being meticulous about this part, especially if you've got an older vehicle. Leave it better than you found it.

Pros: Just about everything. Easy to install, looks clean and stock. At first I was a little confused about the thickness of the iphone cable, but even modern cars need the cable. If it were an all wireless system, which wouldnt be impossible, you'd sacrifice quality and charging capability, which are essential to the usefulness of this product.

Cons: The ONLY complaint I have isn't really a complaint at all. Im a little peeved about having to put a permanent adhesive on my dash for the suction cup on the iPhone mount, but the mount is very high quality and feels designed to be as permanent as the adhesive, so whatever, I'll live. This is the first upgrade I've performed on any motor vehicle and there's a but of a learner's curve but if you know basically anything about electrical wiring you'll do good and you'll be happy.

m1405pd from Dallas, TX on 1/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The DSP is nice and works extremely well with music from my iPhone, but when playing XM and FM, it doesn't seem to add or change anything. So, essentially, it sounds the same as before I had it. I guess this makes sense as the music from my phone has more information for the DSP to process, and make sound better, but I was led to believe from the reviews I read and information on this site that it would add to my factory radio. So, if you are looking to add an iPod / iPhone to your factory radio and make it sound better, then it works great. If you're looking for it to make your factory radio sound better, it won't. The iPhone dock has to be used in order to connect the iPhone. You cannot simply attach the iPhone with a cord, it needs the dock to be attached and the dock is a little bulky, so you need to find a spot to mount it. Keeping it in your cup holder as is mentioned in one of the articles on this site is not an option. At least not a permanent option.

Pros: Nice way to add iPhone / iPod connection for factory radio DSP sounds great with iPhone / iPod Price

Cons: DSP doesn't help with factory radio

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I, like many others, bought this to add to the factory headunit as I did not want to install an aftermarket deck and lose the nice factory integration to Bluetooth, voice commands, etc. already provided by the factory unit. Also - this is the first car I have had where I did NOT replace the HU and I have to say that OEM units are a whole lot more intuitive in terms of getting to the settings from the controls then the aftermarkets ones I have had from Sony, Kenwood, Clarion, etc. Anyway - this unit gives you line out convertors and some more ways to tailor the sound with its own fader, bass, treble and sub controls. I am using this to power JBL component speakers and the Sub outs to a 250watt amp for my Sub. System sounds pretty darn good. You do need to have the ipod cradle installed to use the remote and I was not initially planning to hook that up as my HU already has ipod integration built in.

Pros: All wiring included, cant beat the price!

Cons: Takes some time to install ~ 3 hours

Adds a lot to a factory system, great value

Tom K. from Akron, OH on 1/14/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was on the fence about installing an aftermarket head unit in my 2006 Honda Civic, partially because of the full cost of the install (the Civic requires a large, expensive bracket) and partially because I really like the smooth, clean look of a factory stereo. I stumbled upon this when I was looking at the Alpine Power Pack, and I am VERY glad I went with this instead! The install wasn't beyond my abilities, but it definitely isn't a standard job. I told a Crutchfield tech rep that I wasn't thrilled about cutting into my factory wiring harness to install this and he suggested that I buy a bluetooth integration wiring harness and cut off the bluetooth parts... DEFINITELY WORTH THE $$$!!! I was able to splice all of the wires from the comfort of my couch and go out to my car with most of the hard work already complete. From that point, it's just a matter of hiding the wires. I maintained my factory stereo, already had some Kicker 6.5" speakers, and was able to run RCAs out of this thing into my (previously purchased) Kicker 12" CompVR/Kenwood amp combo. For less than $100 (after all was said and done, with all of the miscellaneous wires, connectors, etc. used for the install), my sound system went from "pretty good" to "GREAT," and nobody(i.e. thieves) would know it when looking in the window (which is nice, because I don't live in the nicest area...).

Pros: Independently controlled subwoofer level!!!, VERY reasonably priced for what you get, plenty of length on the wiring harness, maintains separate audio settings for iPod and factory stereo <- very nice!

Cons: Annoying beep when you adjust the volume, not a super easy install... took me about 5 hours total, but I'm a perfectionist and made sure every wire was COMPLETELY hidden and every connection was perfect. Really, though, probably just about as difficult as any 4 channel amp. I wish the ground wire was a bit longer... but whatever.

This is a nice system for great imagination, I decided to remove overall the entire head unit and modified the Sony XDP-MU110 to run an Ipad on my dashboard. so far it sounds incredibly nice for such a price. For those willing to leap forward into the next level must take in consideration that that Sony XDP-MU110 will not charge iPad properly and must have additional power supply for it to charge.

Pros: Great Sound, really good price

Cons: Can't say much. Does not apply for what I use it for :)

Hoping for Significant iPhone IPod Playback Quality

KPMcLean from Flower Mound, TX on 1/11/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have not yet installed the Sony XDP-MU110 in my 2002 Jaguar X-Type so the reason for the 5-STARS is because of the deal I got on purchasing it. I used my CExchange credit and reduced my total cost to $8.72. I got this to either augment or replace my iSimple TranzIt IS77 which does high quality audio streaming but horrible iPod playback due to all the compress through the FM Modulators. However, the Sony is NOT COMPATIBLE with the iPhone 5 and iSimple is with an adapter. I also currently I have a great cup holder mount from ARKON that accommodates all iPhone models. I also plan to upgrade from the iPhone 4S to 5 soon and don't want to have no music option because the Sony cradle doesn't support iPhone 5, so I just might just install the Sony without the cradle and keep the iSimple in place -- if possible.

Pros: Potential Improvement in overall sound quality from the factory system

Cons: Cradle incompatibility with iPhone 5 (hopefully Sony/Apple will rectify this and make one available separately from their new model)

Nice product

Rich from canton ga on 1/1/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice overall system, I'm not a fan of cutting factory wiring, but all in all it was a relatively easy install. Here are a few answers to the questions I had that I could not find online. As far as power requirements, the fuse on the amp is only 10f amps (similar to a head unit) so you can use a fuse tap on the fuse block under the dash and not have to run a power wire to the battery/under the hood. When the indicator light on the cradle is red, you control the volume with either the remote or on the cradle itself. When its blue, its basically a pass through amp and volume is controlled on the headunit and bypassed on the cradle. That makes it a really nice upgrade to the factory head unit without fumbling around with the cradle or remote control. Its a very small amp, in some cases I am sure it could be installed under the dash, mine is under the seat. The main reason I bought this was I have a 2007 Accord and installing an aftermarket unit is both ugly and expensive. Nice upgrade to the factory sound, better bass is the best result of this amp!

Pros: Nice sounding system, volume controls are intuitive, Ipod/Iphone use bypasses the factory radio all together which makes the sound quality amazing! Small footprint for the DSP/amp unit, does not need a huge power cable like dedicated amps, just a nice upgrade to a factory system without swapping out the head unit. Iphone/ipod sound quality is great!

Cons: Not a plug and play install like the Helix systems, but for $50, I am willing to cut some wires behind the dash. The DSP function of the unit is ok, does not add much to the factory head units sound quality with the high level inputs, but does add some bass. Not a big fan of mounting the cradle on the dash but it seems to be the only way in my car.

Improved sound quality with factory look

Anonymous from NC on 12/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 2012 wrx because I wanted to keep the factory look as well as all Steering wheel controls. Installation was reasonably easy; the kit included all the needed wiring and was long enough of wire to install it under my passenger seat. I bought a forward and reverse harness from a 3rd party site (ae64) to avoid splicing into factory wires. The end result was significant improvement in sound coming out of the factory head unit, especially at higher volumes when the factory radio would distort the sound. Even at high volumes the sound is clean. I kept the factory speakers, and added the sound ordnance under seat sub which the DSP has RCA outputs for. I did not install the included iphone cradle so I cannot say how well it works; the system works just fine without it plugged in. I am not a major audiophile and I do not know this product is suited for that person. For someone looking for an easy way to improve the factory system in their car without replacing the head unit this is a great alternative for a great price.

Pros: Price, ease of installation, sound quality

For iPad Mini Dash Install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this because it was marked down and I'm going to install an iPad Mini in my car. This will involve some adapters and possible dismantling, but it was a cheap audio processor ready made to hook up to the car. Seems like good quality so far, but including a "proprietary" cable to connect the iPod/iPad makes thing a bit more difficult. I wish accessory makers wouldn't this.

Pros: Simple, Good Quality

Cons: Proprietary connectors

Great Iphone integration!

RM from Missouri on 12/17/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to add an amp/sub to the stock stereo in our SUV, and at the price this is listed for this was a way better deal than just buying a LOC. If you have an Iphone/ipod then this is a great way to go. Seems to clean up the standard radio signal a fair amount, but really shines when an apple device is plugged in. This may not be worth it at the original price point, but it's a steal as it's priced now. You will not be dissappointed.
