Our take on the Niles CM7BG by Crutchfield's Marshall Chase
Niles Audio quality and know-how are built in
With over 34 years in business, Niles Audio has made a name for themselves helping people enjoy music throughout their homes. That experience and dedication has produced in-ceiling speakers like the CM7BG.
The back story of the "Background" speaker
The CM7BG is part of Niles' "Background" series of in-ceiling speakers. Made to deliver good sound quality at an affordable price, these speakers are a great choice for listening to ambient music and for secondary areas of your home like a guest room.
Bigger woofer for deeper bass
The CM7BG employs a 7" polymer woofer, 1/2" larger than most speakers in its class. The resulting bass response is much fuller as well. Its 1/2" fluid-cooled Kaladex® dome tweeter offers great dispersion so you can hear your music in a wide area. Top it off with the included magnetic snap-on grilel and you're good to go. And with weather-resistant design, this speaker can go most places you'd like it to, indoors or out. Plus, it's covered by Niles' lifetime warranty.

Overview: The Niles Audio CM7BG Ceiling Mount speaker is designed for background music applications in non-primary listening areas. The CM7BG comes with a magnetically-attached paintable metal grille.
Note: The CM7BG is packaged as a single speaker.
Drivers: The CM7BG has a light, but strong 7" polypropylene cone woofer. The integrated woofer/baffle design enhances the low frequency response, and allows you to mount a 7" speaker in locations where many competitor's speakers with the same frame diameter can only use a 6-1/2" driver. The 13mm (1/2") fluid-cooled Kaladex dome tweeter provides wide dispersion of detailed high frequencies.
Grille: The CM7BG includes a 10" diameter MicroPerf grille, which attaches magnetically to the speaker. The 1/4" thick grille is easy to install, and blends with the room's aesthetics. It is rust-resistant, and paintable to match any décor. An optional SG7C square grille is also available, if desired.
Weather-Resistant: The frame, speaker, and grille are weather-resistant, so you can install the speaker in moist environments, including bathrooms and outdoors under eaves.
Speaker Terminals: The CM7BG is equipped with spring-loaded post terminals, which can accept up to 12-gauge speaker wire. For wire runs of less than 80 feet, 16-gauge wire is recommended. You should use 14-gauge wire for runs of 80-200 feet, and 12-gauge wire for runs over 200 feet.
Note: When running speaker wire inside walls or ceilings, special jacketed cable (CL-2 or CL-3) should be used to protect the wire and for fire prevention. If unsure, you should consult your local building inspectors about code compliance requirements.
Installation: Installing the speaker requires a 8-1/2" cutout. The speaker requires a depth of 3-3/4" behind standard 5/8" drywall. There are three spring-loaded mounting clamps with screws that tighten from the front.
