Our take on the Niles CM7PR by Crutchfield's Marshall Chase
Niles Audio quality and know-how is built in
With over 34 years in business, Niles Audio has made a name for themselves helping people enjoy music throughout their homes. That experience and dedication has led them to produce in-ceiling speakers like the CM7PR.
Performance is its middle name
This speaker is part of Niles' "Performance" series of in-ceiling models. If you're building a dedicated music-listening system or even a home theater, this speaker offers rich, accurate sound in a stealthy hideaway form factor. And thanks to its weather-resistant design, you can install it in moist environments and still count on many years of enjoyment.
A larger woofer for better bass response
The CM7PR employs a 7" glass-fiber woofer, 1/2" larger than most speakers in its class. The extra surface area results in richer, fuller bass. A 1" fluid-cooled Teteron® dome tweeter delivers smooth, extended highs and wide dispersion for clear sound throughout your room. Top it off with the included magnetic snap-on grille and you're good to go. Plus it's covered by Niles' lifetime warranty.

Overview: The Niles Audio CM7PR Ceiling Mount speaker is designed for primary and secondary listening rooms, and home theater applications. It can be used as a left or right speaker in a stereo configuration, or left, center, or right in a home theater application. The CM7PR comes with a magnetically-attached paintable metal grille.
Note: The CM7PR is packaged as a single speaker.
Drivers: The CM7PR has a rigid 7" glass fiber cone woofer. The integrated woofer/baffle design enhances the low frequency response, and allows you to mount a 7" speaker in locations where many competitor's speakers with the same frame diameter can only use a 6-1/2" driver. The 1" fluid-cooled Teteron dome tweeter provides smooth highs and a focused high frequency sound. The proprietary bridge-mounted pivoting tweeter adjustment lets you aim the sound up to 20° in any direction.
Grille: The CM7PR includes a 10" diameter MicroThin grille, which attaches magnetically to the speaker. The 1/4" thick grille is easy to install, and blends with the room's aesthetics. It is rust-resistant, and paintable to match any décor. An optional SG7C square grille is also available, if desired.
Treble Switch: The CM7PR has a 3-position switch that allows you to adjust the output of the tweeter to compensate for room acoustics. For acoustically bright rooms with wood or tile floors, you should move the switch to the minus (-) position to reduce the tweeter output by 3dB. For rooms with carpet, drapery, and plush furniture--surfaces that absorb high frequencies, you should move the switch to the plus (+) position to increase the tweeter output by 3dB. The center position (0) does not affect the tweeter's output.
Weather-Resistant: The frame, speaker, and grille are weather-resistant, so you can install the speaker in moist environments, including bathrooms and outdoors under eaves.
Speaker Terminals: The CM7PR is equipped with spring clip terminals, which can accept up to 12-gauge speaker wire. For wire runs of less than 80 feet, 16-gauge wire is recommended. You should use 14-gauge wire for runs of 80-200 feet, and 12-gauge wire for runs over 200 feet.
Note: When running speaker wire inside walls or ceilings, special jacketed cable (CL-2 or CL-3) should be used to protect the wire and for fire prevention. If unsure, you should consult your local building inspectors about code compliance requirements.
Installation: Installing the speaker requires a 8-1/2" cutout. The speaker requires a depth of 3-3/4" behind standard 5/8" drywall. There are three spring-loaded mounting clamps with screws that tighten from the front.
