Our take on the Kicker iKICK IK501 by Crutchfield's Ralph Graves
Get hard-hitting sound from your iPod
Let the Kicker iK501 crank out the tunes from your iPod or iPhone. The system's stereo speakers use 40 watts of total power and separate woofers and tweeters to slam out big, brawny sound. And the six-inch square passive radiator in the back reinforces low frequencies to give the bass real punch.
Grab the provided remote to control the system and operate basic functions on your iPod, such as play, pause, and track skip. Use the iK501's auxiliary input to hook up another audio source, such as a portable CD player or MP3 player. The system's composite video output lets you connect the iK501 to a TV and enjoy your iPod's videos "on the big screen."
And with the Kicker ZKPC1222 12-volt power converter, it's easy to keep the music going in your car or boat.
Excellent product. Great sound and bass response is wonderful. Controls are easy to use and the remote is nice. Interfaces well with my Ipod and I use the RCA Mini Phone plug to listen to music I have on my Samsung Galaxy. Great product.

Overview: The Kicker iK501 is a digital stereo audio system designed specifically for use with the Apple iPod or iPhone. It has a standard iPod dock connector in the front, and a variety of dock adapters to fit select iPod and iPhone models. Older non-dockable iPods and other music sources can be connected to the system through a 3.5mm mini-jack auxiliary input. The iK501 plays your iPod music files over high-quality stereo speakers, driven by a powerful stereo amplifier with digital signal processing.
Speaker System: The iK501 is equipped with two 2-way speakers and a square passive radiator. It features dual 5" full-range Kicker drivers, and 3/4" silk dome tweeters. On the back of the unit is a 6" square passive radiator to add a punchy low frequency response.
Amplifier: The 2-way speakers are driven by a powerful 20 watts per channel stereo amplifier. Digital signal processing allows you to adjust the audio to suit your tastes. You can independently adjust the bass and treble from -9 to +9, using the front panel's sole rotary control or the supplied remote control.
iPod Dock: The iK501 features an integrated dock and comes supplied with five iPod dock adapter inserts. The iK501 supports audio playback, remote control, and charging of select iPods and iPhones. The iK501 is "Made for iPod/iPhone compatible" and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions (10/19/2012).
|iPod/iPhone Model||Gen.||Media Type||Control Type||Display Type||Charge|
|Audio||Video Out||Remote||iPod/iPhone||Song/Artist Info||Track Info|
Note: The Kicker iK501 does not support text display of your iPod/iPhone. You will continue to use your iPod/iPhone to view song information. Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the device and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until an newer software update is available.
Charging The iPod: The iK501 will charge a docked iPod's battery, as long as the unit is plugged into an AC power outlet. In Standby mode, the iK501 will be powered down, but the iPod will continue to charge.
Composite Video Output: The Kicker iK501 offers a rear-panel composite video output to transfer video content from your docked iPod or iPhone (features video capability) to your television.
Remote Control: The iK501 includes a credit card-sized wireless remote control (3.75" L x 2.0625" W x 0.3125" H) for control of your iPod or iPhone, as well as the music system. The 10-button remote lets you adjust the system's volume up and down, as well as mute, power, menu, bass and treble. iPod controls include Play/pause, Skip Forward/Backward, Fast Forward/Rewind, menu, up/down navigation within the menu, and make selections inside the iPod menu.
On-board Control: The iK501 features a single rotary knob, which turns to control volume and adjust menu parameters, presses to cycle through the menu selections, and turns on/off when pressed and held. Just above the rotary control is an LCD display to indicate volume, bass and treble values, and aux input status.
Note: When the iK501 is powered on or off with the rotary knob or remote control, the iPod is also turned on or off.
Auxiliary Input: The unit is equipped with a 3.5mm mini-jack auxiliary input on the rear panel, allowing you to plug in a second source device. You must activate the aux input through the rotary control in order to listen to the auxiliary unit. While the aux input is activated, iPod control and audio are disabled.
Note: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods require the use of the auxiliary input for audio playback.
Line Output: A pair of RCA jacks are provided on the back panel to allow you to connect your iK501 to another powered speaker system or home stereo system.
