Buck Pomerantz

High-fidelity power that fits almost anywhere

Kicker's 11IX500.4 4-channel amplifier delivers 75 watts RMS to each of your car's front and rear speakers so you can enjoy a big kick to your music. If you're more interested in a low-frequency blast, this compact IX Series amp can also power a pair of subs with 250 watts RMS each. High- and low-pass filters, along with front and rear bass boosts, help you get the best out of your speakers. Noise-reducing technology removes interference from your car's electrical system, so that your speakers and subs see the purest signal possible.

Dependable, efficient, and cool

This amp's compact chassis hides a technical powerhouse. It uses the same voltage-boost technology found in some electric-hybrid vehicles to achieve over 90% efficiency — which means you get more power from a smaller, cooler amp. Kicker combined this high-current design with Class D technology to unleash more wattage per cubic inch than just about any other amp around. And an IX Series amp runs so cool you can stack multiple amps together for a professional-looking installation.

Features

Class D Amplifier Design: The Kicker IX500.4 is a full-range Class D amplifier, which uses digital switching to amplify audio signals. This design results in high efficiency and minimal heat output. The Class D design also allows the IX500.4 to have a very small footprint for ease of installation.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Kicker IX500.4's power and signal to noise ratio are measured according to CEA 2006 standards (Consumer Electronics Association). These standards allow you to accurately compare the specifications of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even if they are different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging. The amplifier can handle impedance loads down to 2 ohms in stereo, 4 ohms bridged. The rated power output is 75 watts RMS x 4 channels into 4Ω (20 Hz-20 kHz, <1% THD+N), 125 watts RMS x 4 channels into 2Ω (20 Hz-20 kHz, <1% THD+N), and 250 watts RMS x 2 channels into 4Ω (20 Hz-20 kHz, <1% THD+N). While the CEA 2006 S/N is 85 dB (measured at 1 watt), the S/N at rated power is 98 dB.

Kicker Livin' Loud Certified Power Certificate: The amplifier comes with a certificate indicating the total RMS power output of the particular amplifier, along with the model number, serial number, tested date, and whether the amplifier passed the total harmonic distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, and protection circuit tests.

Crossover: The front and rear amplifier channels have independent crossover settings. The internal crossovers can be set for low-pass, high-pass, or full-range operation. The variable low-pass and/or high-pass crossover points can be set between 50 and 200 Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB per octave.

KICKEQ Bass Boost: The front and rear amplifier channels have independent bass boost settings. The bass boost circuits provide a variable (0-18 dB) signal boost at 40 Hz.

Fader: When powering four speakers and using both the front and rear inputs, turn the fader switch On to maintain front/rear fader control.

Auto Turn-On: The Auto Turn-On switch offers three options:

  • +12 V: The amp turns on when +12 volts is applied to the remote terminal.
  • DC Offset: The amp turns on when a 6 volt signal is detected on the RCA inputs (from a speaker-level source); in this mode the amp's remote terminal acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another component.
  • Audio: The amp turns on when an incoming audio signal is detected; in this mode the amp's remote terminal acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another component.

Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT): To accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the IX500.4 utilizes Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT), offering significant noise reduction and compatibility with virtually any factory radio. There is a switchable input level control; when set to Low level, the amp can accommodate an input signal of 125mV-5V, at High level, the amp will accept 250mV-10V signals.

Gain Control: The front and rear sections of the amp have independent input gain controls. With the Input Level Control switch at the appropriate setting, you can set the rotary Gain Control to match the output of the source unit. The Gain Controls are adjusted with a flat-head screwdriver, and can be set between 0 and 11.

Protection Circuitry: The IX500.4 has protection circuitry that will turn the amp off in the event of overheating, over voltage (power input), under voltage (power input), short circuit (speaker output), and over current (speaker output). If the Protection LED on the front side of the amp illuminates red, the protection circuit has engaged and the amp will not play until the problem is resolved.

Stackable: The optional Kicker IXSM stacking mount (item number 206IXSM, sold separately) allows you to stack two Kicker IX-series amplifiers on top of one another.

Connections

Power Connections: The power and ground connections are set-screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The remote turn-on set-screw terminal will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Note: Kicker recommends the power and ground cables be 4 gauge minimum and an external 50 amp fuse is required to protect the amp. The recommended accessory list for the IX500.4 includes wiring kits with 4 gauge wire and 100 or 150 amp fuses; that original fuse should be replaced with a 50-amp fuse.

Speaker Outputs: The IX500.4 is equipped with four pair of set-screw speaker terminals that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The supplied 3mm Allen wrench is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

RCA Input Connectors: The amplifier is equipped with two pair of RCA inputs, which can be used for line level or speaker level input signals. If the source device doesn't have preamp level outputs, the KISL speaker wire to RCA adapter (item number 206KISL, sold separately) is needed and the Input Level switch should be set to High.

Line Level Output: The amplifier has a pair of RCA line level outputs for feeding a signal to another amplifier. It is the same signal that is input through the line inputs. The amplifier's crossovers have no effect on the line level output signal, however, if the input signal is crossed over at the source unit, the filtered signal will be passed on to the second amplifier. The line output is available when using either line level or speaker level inputs.
